My answer to why is solas so popular in dragon age.
In the end his actions created a lot of problems, such as the cult of andraste and the maker (/boblawboblaw) and he is actually trying to correct them. Some would argue that teaching people about spirits and the veil would help; except the people they are talking about have at least a dozen generations of religious dogma clouding their perception of reality. Therefore teaching them the correct way to handle mages and the veil is at least ineffective and at most impossible. So he chooses to burn the entire world to the ground so that another better one may grow from the ashes of the old one. In effect solas represents change, and change is chaotic so people fear it. However in a world that is desperate for change (in my opinion our’s) some if not many are quick to embrace such a concept so long at it is portrayed in a controlled and (fairly) predictable way. Therefore we tend to lean toward solas as he represents an answer to the inherent flaws in our own society.
Btw idk nor do i care if my answer makes any sense because i’m hella drunk right now (thank the goddesses for spell check) however i may care after i’m sober so let me know your honest opinion on this possibly nonsensical take.

👀 lavellanxemmrich? do say more…. (for wip wed)
WIP Wednesday!!
This one literally started out as a little joke in my head and spiraled into kind of a legit ship.
It involves my Lavellan’s sister Evelyn as Rook. Evelyn absolutely detests Solas. She disliked him even before he started getting involved with Ellana, and hates him even more now. Which is great because now she’s stuck with him.
And Ellana. Well, she has two very particular types of people she’s attracted to: very tall women, and older men. So when Evelyn meets Emmrich, she has the brilliant idea to push her sister toward him. Ellana needs to move on, Solas needs to suffer, and Emmrich could use a pretty young thirty-something to gush over nerd shit with.
As far as Evelyn is concerned, it’s a win-win-win!
Here’s a snippet!
"I do not have an old man fetish!" Ellana shouted, stomping her foot.
A throat cleared behind her. Evelyn clapped a hand over the bottom of her face to stifle a snort while Cullen groaned. Slowly, Ellana turned. Emmrich stood in the doorway, knuckles elegantly raised to knock against the frame, a faint dusting of pink across his cheeks. Behind him, the rest of the Veilguard craned their necks to peer at the former Inquisitor.
There was an extensive moment of silence, before Ellana bolted forward and slammed the door shut with all her might. She pressed her back against it, arms braced on the wall behind her, and glared at her sibling.
"I hate you," she gritted out.
Evelyn wiped a tear from her eye as she cackled. "You don't even know," she wheezed. "The noise Solas just made…I've never heard him sound so undignified!"
Ellana paled. She'd forgotten that he could see and hear everything Evelyn did. She let out a cry of frustration, ripped the door back open, and dropped to the ground, skittering under the legs of the Veilguard to flee down the hallway toward her room.
"I missed her," Harding sighed happily.
*Evelyn is @erehttuoliveeht ‘s!

Trying to recreate my vision from this post in my sketchbook (and getting to draw Evelyn in a 19th-century-inspired look while I’m at it)

Have you ever thought about doing a run of inquisition where instead of arthur trevelyan surviving the conclave it was his sister?
haven’t thought it through in detail but since they were both there it’s the obvious au isn’t it! man. evelyn as inquisitor. dark fucking days for thedas. actually, i don’t know, maybe she could character arc her way out. but equally maybe not. she does suck, it has to be said
(i recognise that evelyn is the default name for f!trevelyan lmao i gave two of arthur’s siblings the default trev names. sorry for the slander to anyone’s evelyns who do not suck)
evelyn is straight up a templar, to be clear. i can only imagine her making templar as hell choices. she would definitely believe she was the herald of andraste and declare the inquisition in the name of faith and whatnot. she’s Like That. on the other hand... she did love her brother once. she does love her brother still, right up until the end, even if she couldn’t admit it anymore. i can’t decide if arthur dying at the conclave would shake her enough to make her rethink her life choices or if the grief she doesn’t want to admit would just make her double down. oh god i just remembered arthur’s little girl. okay the baby (still undecided on name sorry) losing her adopted dad too would be so so bad but evelyn suddenly having to become thedas’ most grudging mage rights activist because if anything happens to her niece she just found out existed she’ll kill everyone in this continent and then herself WOULD be the funniest timeline
