#some more screenshots from my hardcore world <3 it's going good#built that tree from the last two pictures today :3 it's no bdubs level of course but i like how it turned out!#i think im slowly getting better at custom trees and building in general! happy#that building on the uhhh 6th image is my favorite so far! it houses my bee farm and it's so cool and vibrant and funky!!! loving it#the building on the 3rd image is also pretty good. it's an inn with a restaurant on the 1st floor and villager housing on the 2nd!#it's cozy in there but on the outide i think it could do with a bit more dress up. that part of the town is still in development so im sure#it'll come together eventually! like. with another house across the street and maybe some banner lines between them it's gonna look great#i also took that screenshot with my normal playing fov and not the low-good-for-screenshots fov so. yknow#welp. that's it for now i think#mining and building and also crafting#<- made the tag for it finally! check it out if you wanna; there's the previous set of screenshots as well#yagotalk

I thought I’d give Dracula Daily another go this year and started listening to Re: Dracula, the audio podcast version, and it is really really good!! It’s like reading it, except everything feels a little more fleshed out, a little more alive, a little more real.

Wait, what do the neighbours do to more or less get money? Like what do they do for quests wise?
Howdy's tavern has a board where people can post jobs/quest requests - a lot like in Fairy Tail! a lot of times requests are sent in the mail to any tavern/area that will post them, so you gotta be quick about responding before anyone else does. if the posting was sent in, they have to reply via some form of message to confirm it and essentially say "dont let anyone else take the job, i'm/we're on my/our way"
the quests/jobs have a wide range. sometimes its like "collect this item for me", sometimes its "bodyguard me & my belongings while i travel", and it can be "kill the monster terrorizing my town." it can be anything! it's a mixed bag!
and its a little risky, too. the job postings arent always... In Depth. one time the Neighborhood rushed somewhere because the posting just said HUGE EMERGENCY, LIVES IN DANGER but in reality it was an elderly farmer who had them build a new coop for her chickens before the winter frost. then another time it was all "id like help with a small issue at our town's border" and then the Neighborhood got there and it was a fuckoff huge dragon that they were Not prepared to handle.
the Neighborhood doesnt just take job postings though! their travels often take a while because they'll get into shenanigans/trouble, or in completing one job something else will be asked of them, etc. they also don't always do it for money. if someone's in trouble while they're traveling, theyre gonna help without asking for compensation.
#sometimes their jobs/quests start at home base#sometimes they have to travel#sometimes someone will even arrive asking specifically for them!#the length of their travels also varies wildly#sometimes its a couple days#sometimes its a couple months#one time they didnt return to home base for a year#now THAT was an adventure#rambles from the bog#wh fantasy au#the neighborhood is known for being capable and very helpful#so theyre lowkey celebrities! theyre the pride of their lil town <3#but yeah their skills and time tends to be in high demand#people will sometimes send their requests specifically to howdy's tavern#in the hopes of the neighborhood picking it up#but yeah honestly they do more Unpaid stuff than paid#they're always doing a coin check - who has what & can they afford a hot meal at an inn#all of them crouched in a circle counting out their collective money after a completed job#thats why theyre always happy when howdy joins - he rakes in So much extra shine#also hes their friend. but with him around they can afford to sleep in beds#oh my god howdy is the neighborhoods sugar daddy#sugarpillar....

i may be obsessed.
#her name is tenka but everyone calls her brandy#(warden nickname she earned in her early days due her unbreakable record of being able to drink ANYONE under the table)#her mother was banished from orzammar when she fell pregnant with her (long story very sad and dramatic and lowkey personal)#and while she was pregnant she was cared for and eventually fell in love with a gentle blacksmith from a small ferelden village#who her mother married (taking his surname) and who raised tenka as his daughter#she was a young child during the fifth blight and their village survived unscathed w the exception of some food shortages and trade issues#nothing life shattering#but she had heard of the darkspawn from her mother's stories about their family's history and they were her boogeymen#her monsters under the bed#but her parents reminded her she's smaller than all the other children and that's her strength. she's brilliant at hide and seek.#the darkspawn didn't come during the apex of the fifth blight but after#some lone grey warden had been staying at the inn that weekend. said something about looking for someone#now when the darkspawn came tenka Hid. her father was outside. her mother had already gone to the market. it was still morning#they said they wouldn't get in the house. it got very loud and then very quiet. and they got in.#she burst from the cupboard and ran to her father's smithy but she was only a child and when a darkspawn axe raked her back she collapsed#into the rack of blades she had been reaching for. these were her monsters and she was bleeding so much and her parents were missing#and she was so scared so so so scared. between fight and flight it was always flight and she had nowhere left to fly to#another graze of the blade across her chest as she scampered back made her scream and that's when she saw rowena#her uncles and cousins from her mother's stories never felt like heroes due to what they did to her mother but when she saw rowena hack#down her monsters piercing through them valiantly like light through the crack in her dark bedroom door#with her mother and father right behind completely safe and sobbing and relieved and Alive#she had never looked up to someone more#see rowena got a lot of things wrong but brandy is exactly what she got right#only two villagers died. farmers. it had been but a small darkspawn raid. but she saved a girl. saved a family. saved a town.#rowena stayed in town while tenka recovered (most likely to ensure she didn't contract the blight) and tenka adored her every move#she knows nothing of rowena's struggles. knows nothing of rowena's missteps. nothing of the constant reminder of mortality in her head#just that she's her hero. just that she wants to be exactly like her.#she joined the wardens young with a kiss to her parents goodbye and never looked back even when it turned out to be harder#in ways she'd never imagined. but she was immovable. a force of will. she was dauntless and daring and it was her idolization of rowena#that inspired her and kept her going. where other wardens cracked no amount of hardship could break her. it was almost Smug

completely meaningless headcanon time, Astarion would fucking love those cute little wooden puzzle boxes you sometimes see.
are they likely anachronistic? yeah, maybe. but they're just such fiddly little things. sometimes all fancy and ornate, with lots of hidden bits and moving parts. and the goal is to pull them apart to find a hidden compartment? that may or may not have a tiny Thing inside? marvelous.

Lineup of all of the characters that appear long enough to need a visual representation of them in the game lol
#I added a few people that you can randomly run into around town (like at the inn or in the forest or etc) and have very short conversations#with just to kind of flesh out the world a little more in a more natural-ish seeming way. Like nobody in the main cast would really#have much reason to talk about the actual city you're in or anything. Since most of them havent lived there that long anyway.#But if there's a ''city inspector'' that you can run into whilst he's writing up notes examining the local inn. then maybe there could be a#few dialogue options with him where you can ask about things like that. since he would know more about the area as an offical Government#Worker or etc. Optional of course. since I have to be so wary of my natural inclination to lore dump lol and am trying extra hard to make i#all stuff thats easily avoided/skipped. But for the people like ME who deliberately choose to exhaust every possible optional dialogue#option and explore every single inch of the world and try to collect as much information as possible - then there are a few extra places to#do that. Though obviously not all of them just give exposition for like 15 paragraphs blandly. Some you don't really learn anything from#and it's kind of just.. random flavor to make the non-shop map locations more ''lived in'' feeling. Like the random#little girl you can talk to in the park doesn't bizarrely start reading out the wikipedia description of some War that happened 10 years ag#or whatever. she's just complains about school a little and asks if you've tried the nearby ice cream cart treats and etc lol#ANYWAY..#some of the art is so so evil but I'm not going to spend 800 years trying to clean it up and update it. whatever the hell mess I sketched#out in 2018 or whatever is just what I'm keeping lol... it is what it is#One of the many trials of the whole 'briefly work a few months on something and then abandon it almost entirely only to pick up work#on it literally like 4 - 5 yrs later and now you must contend with trying to decipher whatever weird shit you did years ago' experience lol#Also given the population breakdowns of the world in general I think there's an unrealistic amount of jhevona in this lineup since#they're a much rarer species to just see out and about anywhere but.. it IS a global trading center type area. and the game#takes place in the north (the country of Asen. near the coast. for the maybe 2 or less people who actually keep up with my worldbuilding#enough to know where that is lol (the same continent as Navyete (where the avirre'thel live)) and there's a decent concentration#of nothern jhevona only a short ways away so... tee hee..I shall pretend it makes sense and not merely me just wanting#to represent more of that species because I think their lore is interesting lol#I MEAN also realistically there would NOT be a human here because humans are extremely isolated species that don't even know the rest#of the world exists really and human territories are extremely protected from the outside world but... of course it's like.. well we need#at least One of them to be there for the Optional Lore. Same with the Ythrili. But at least those are like.. PLAUSIBLE.. not nonsensically#outlandish. If I had a Verrucalt or something in there THEN that would be truly lore-breaking almost lol#ANYWAY.. rambling that only means anything to me because nobody else knows what I'm even referencing but hbjh#also I think my character designs are so funny in the sense that I really do just love to do the same thing over and over again ghbjh#wow... random asymmetry and belts and arm straps and high collars where the neck is completely covered?? you dont say..how novel

sometimes it's fair that someone doesn't notice that their favourite anti capitalist farming sim is actually explicitly capitalist if only because there's a lack of suffering in town as you slowly accumulate all the money in the world and by and large nothing for you to do with that money besides enrich your own experience. but sometimes it's like. coral island is explicitly about environmentalism and culture. it actually has nothing to say about capitalism except that you get rewarded at huge money milestones and silly, ostentatious things to buy to indicate that you hit said milestone. it's not anti capitalist just because you don't like the woman in a business suit who's creatively named Karen. that actually has literally no bearing on how much money you accumulate or what you spend it on, and in a fifty person town where everyone knows each other (except Mark and Wakuu apparently) they still charge each other rent. multiple LIs own and operate small businesses with nameless, faceless employees. if the general store only accepts currency then it implies...the existence of currency, unfortunately.
#.txt#something something words mean things#honestly coral island is a little bizarre because I believe many people will tell you when you're in a small town being squeezed#by corporations all the hot young bachelors and bachelorettes will leave because they can't find jobs#the concentration of young business owners in starlet town is frankly unusual esp considering that a lot of them don't seem#to have inherited it from anywhere. just pure bootstraps to keep an inn running in a town with no tourists and a handful of local customers#which when you think about it is more of a capitalist fantasy.
