Gami moves into Mineral town to fix up and run his uncle's old farm. He gets to know the town people as they celebrate holidays and unique festivals. He crushes on Popuri finds she likes strawberries and it turns out a way to a woman heart is through her stomach.

Some of you might think why would a anthropomorphic cat man fit into this universe, but I beg to differ. In some of the games you can marry a witch, a mermaid, or even a goddess if you try hard enough! Nobody would probably blink an eye at a cat man.

Ko leans into his brother and purrs. He's feeling cuddly and since he found his brother in this modern age, the demon has been rather... happy. The younger twin had brought over a vanilla chai white chocolate coffee and some muffins, which helped the demon's bad mood.

Yoriichi would wordlessly drape his arm around Ko's shoulder, holding his elder brother against his side as his eyes flicked between his twin and the screen of the television; the screen illuminating his face with a gentle blue hue.

He was content, especially since he was able to lighten Ko's mood with coffee and simple baked goods. As it was late in the night, Yoriichi was dressed in his pajamas- a simple pair of grey sweatpants and a soft yellow t-shirt with small sunflowers printed onto the fabric.

Angie was pulling some weeds from her personal garden when she noticed someone at the fence of the pasture watching the animals graze. Quirking a brow in confusion, she stood and brushed the dirt from her gloved hands, swiping an arm across her brow to stop the sweating dripping into her eyes.

"Hey, uh...can I help you? You lost?" Her farm was rather out of the way from the rest of the town, so it was strange to see someone out here uninvited. Did she forget some kind of event, maybe? Though it was just the lone girl she saw and no one else, so that seemed unlikely.

The shorter woman raises her hands in an apologetic gesture, accompanied by her own smile from under her wide brim hat. She could tell she gave Popuri a bit of a start by approaching her so quietly. If anything she felt a bit bad for doing, if even unintentionally.

"I think I might, but I'm also looking for a bit of help. If you don't mind that is." As she spoke, she adjusted the brim of her hat to better show her face and look Popuri in the eyes, "To start, I'm Charlotte. I'm wondering if you might help direct me to somewhere to stay, and whom I might need to talk to about moving here?"

While posing her questions, Charlotte made a light gesture to a suitcase and slightly larger travelling trunk she left on the walkway away from the garden. They looked a bit weathered from travel, but still obviously solid and to the task. Rather, the petite figure and chosen fashion of a rather airy alpine style dress accented in white and lilac. If anything she looked a little ill dressed for travel, judging by the wear and tear on her baggage alone. Her shoes were the only other thing showing clear wear from days of walking and travel, the toes and heels obviously worn down.

There was also the matter she was doing a careful check to make sure her ears remained covered between her hair and the wide ribbon she used to keep her hat on her head. She seemed to be having a bit of a hard time being all that subtle about it due to the summer heat. It was all too obvious she was enduring a bit of discomfort for the effort, even if her smiling expression towards Popuri tried to say otherwise.

"Sometimes I wonder if I'll be here forever..."

Popuri was idly watering the flowers, a task she enjoyed more than just about anything else. Careful attention is given, she knew the perfect amount of water for each plant. Hopefully there wouldn't be a monsoon to ruin her beautiful flowers.

What she really wanted, was to see some of the world. Now of course, Flower Budd Village was her home. She had no intentions on ever living anywhere else for an extended period of time. Similar to how her father traveled during the colder seasons in Flower Budd, Popuri too, wanted to travel.

He still saw her as a child. So annoying. She was a grown woman now! Not that little girl collecting shells on the beach. Well. Watering was done. It's only when she turns, that she realizes there's someone standing near her. A moment of initial surprise, followed by a sweet smile.

"Hello. If you want to buy some flowers, or vegetables, you'll have to talk to my mom. She handles selling things. All I do is take care of the vegetables, and flowers."

The more I read danmei in my monthly book club that I otherwise wouldn’t have read or even known about, the more it becomes painfully clear that most of the mdzs fandom (and possibly the other 2 mxtx fandoms but I’m not as well versed with them) have not interacted with the genre at large beyond mxtx, and it shows in the meta analysis people make (especially westerners).

And I am not excluding myself here! So much of my initial assumptions and interpretations of mdzs has changed after reading other danmei authors, especifically the less western-internet-popular ones.

My point is this: when reading a book from a culture that is not your own and in an unfamiliar genre, it will be impossible to grasp all the intricacies and subtleties nestled within the narrative and characterization until you’ve become more familiar with the culture and genre itself.

Don’t limit yourself to mxtx. There are more and more danmei being translated into English by publishing houses and even more are fan translated.

If you’re looking for a place to start, I have some recommendations!

1. Golden Terrace by Cang Wu Bin Bai.

Literally one of my favorite books I’ve ever read in my life, and I’m an English major. It is only 2 books and both are already published, so you won’t have to wait. The most tender, loving relationship I’ve ever had the pleasure of reading about. The translation is phenomenal, and it feels very similar to Jane Austen in its diction, plot, and characterization. I literally cannot explain with words how much I love this book.

2. To Rule in a Turbulent World by Gu Xue Rou

This series is just being translated and published, so it may take a while for the other books (I think 3-4?) will be out, but don’t let that scare you away! Without too much spoilers, the vibes of this first book reminds me of Harvest Moon games. Also a very sweet and tender main couple. Plus, this book is written by a male author!! Pretty rare in danmei, at least to my knowledge.

3. Thousand Autumns by Qian Qiu

Pretty dense with lots of philosophy, poetry references, and a more traditional wuxia world. This series is finished with 5 books in total. I had a hard time reading the first book, mostly because I didn’t connect that much with the mc at first, but I loved the world building and all the information I learned. I did eventually start connecting with the mc and ended the series fully besotted! Not a quick or easy read, but a worthwhile one.

4. Ballad of Sword and Wine by Tang Jiu Qing

The first book is out for this series, with the second being published later this month. It’s going to be a long one like tcgf, so it is a commitment read—but absolutely worth it!! Lots of palace politics and more Taoist-focused martial arts (think Crouching Tiger Hidden Dragon). It is both fast and slow burn (I know that doesn’t make sense now; trust me, it will later on) and the main character is SO FASCINATING!! I want to study him like a bug. The overall characterization is phenomenal. The cast can be… intimidating, as there are a LOT of named characters, but they’re mostly there for world building (and the world building is fantastic!). Also, the translation here is GORGEOUS. You can tell it was translated by a writer, or at least someone who’s read the whole text (you’d be surprised…)—everything is so vivid!

Four Seasons OC Challenge

This challenge is for fans in the avatar-verse looking for an opportunity to share some creativity around their ocs!

The challenge will begin on December 22, 2024 and run through January 18, 2025. It's been a while since I posted on here, life gets to you sometimes!

Here are some more reimagines for The Apple Family, all keeping to their original design spare for a few tweaks and add ons. Read more for more info on the Verse!

The Apple Family in this Verse, much like in the show, is a big earth pony family spanning many generations throughout the moons. They are traditional, and strictly stick to routine, as evident by their daily chores and the Zap Apple Harvest. They love each other dearly and would do anything to keep themselves safe and sound.

After watching Brotherhoof Social, and Do Princesses Dream of Sheep?, I find it obvious that Orchard Blossom is something more than a one time joke. It seemed all too planned out to be an attempt to get to spend time with Applebloom, or a mean joke to poke fun at men/boys who want to dress and act femininely. In my AU (still searching for the right name for the verse), Orchard Blossom is a transwoman, rocking multiple southern-belle hairstyles and accessories with the help of Rarity. She does not have to deal with bigot ponies for her gender expression, as being trans is a perfectly accepted and normal thing in Equestria, as is other identities. Made her cutiemark reflect her name better with the big apple and blossoms on the front.

Applebloom is a young school filly with her whole life ahead of her. She started a band of the CMC, but the group, with helping hooves, found she did not need to spend every waking moment with her friends. In this, she did things she wanted to do; potion brewing and building structures were some of the few hobbies she enjoyed. The group still did their weekly cutiemark crusade, but explored what they needed to find their own cutiemarks rather than random activities that they had never done before. In time, Applebloom was the first to get her cutiemark, fitted with the family's trademark apple, and a bloom, befitting her name.

Granny Smith, the mare who founded Ponyville, could write a book with the stories she tells her grandchildren. It may need a few ghostwriters to keep it on track, however. 

After her son and daughter-in-law's untimely death, Granny Smith took their young foals into open arms and single-hoofedly ran the farm while raising the three trouble-makers. It had been difficult, those first few years, but as Orchard Blossom and Applejack matured, the burden grew less, and Granny Smith could take those long naps her body needed. She keeps a frame picture of Bright Macintosh and Pear Butter on her nightstand, and above the family's hearth, making sure to keep their memory alive and well. Misery did not need to taint their home, even if nightmares plagued her sleep, and Applejack had to wake her from a cold sweat.

Time may heal wounds, but they could not heal scars.

It'd been a number of years since Rusong's death, so there is no child with them when Qin Su and her husband make their preparations to take one of the boats out onto Bixian Lake to admire the moon and ignore their sorrows.

Jin Ling, for all that he is a sweet boy, had always spent mid-autumn in Yunmeng before he would return home to Koi Tower as the winter settles in up north. As Jiang Wanyin had no other close family besides his nephew, Qin Su does not begrudge him this one holiday out of many. (She does not accurately call him family either, so she cannot say that she wants to celebrate Mid Autumn with him. Despite A-Ling's questions, they never have.)

"What is A-Su thinking of, to be frowning so heavily?" Yao-ge has come back with the wine and a plate of desserts and a small knife to cut them with. She ought to put aside these heavy considerations, but she cannot. Not tonight.

She does not say 'this is the first year since we were married that my father has not wanted us to travel to Laoling to see him for Mid Autumn.' Even if it were true, it had not been what she was thinking of. Instead, she says, "I was just thinking that..."

Here, she pauses before she mentions A-Song. They do not speak of A-Song. It has been some years since she has talked about A-Song with anyone else either.

But Yao-ge knows what she means. For all that his grief always felt different from hers, she knows he is the only person in the world who understands what she means without her having to say so. They are, after so long married, well versed in each other's silences and spaces.

"Ah," her husband says, taking her hand for a moment as he glances back up at the clouds that threaten the harvest moon. "All of them on the outside can think to say that our lives are perfect. But how can they understand?"

All those people, observing them, they could say that there is much to admire about their golden lives.

But all that sunlight casts deep shadows. She sets it aside for the moment. "It is too happy a holiday for us to rest on these matters, isn't it?" she asks instead.

It is too happy a night for such matters.
