Tolkientober day 13: Rise. Of the Sun and the Moon.

Let me tell you a tale of the swan prince and princess Two young lovers by the name of Caer Ibormeith and Aengus He searched the globe to find her and she sent him dreams Yet when he laid eyes upon her he found she is not all she seems She turned into a bird and looked up at him with deep black eyes And so he made himself a swan as well, and swam off with her into the sunrise

This celtic tale I have here rewritten is thought to be a basis for many swan tales including Swan Lake and The Swan Princess, but finding hard evidence for this is difficult as many swan tales exist. as always I encourage you to do your own research.

Caer Ibormeith is a goddess of dreams and prophecy, and she marries the god of beauty and youth Aengus Og after they "fly off together in the form of a pair of swans." Source: The Dictionary of Celtic Mythology by James MacKillop.

Inktober 2023 — Day 13 — Rise

This was a busy day, with doing yesterday’s prompt along with today’s and yesterday’s prompt was so tricky that I spent way more time on it than I thought I would. So did I make today’s prompt easy on myself? Of course not!

I knew for certain that I wanted to do something for Rise of the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles, a series I’ve recently gotten into with my friends. Personally, I grew up with the 2003 TMNT show, and I still think it’s a fantastic take on the story. Great animation, amazing story, and iconic characters including the ninja turtles themselves. I remember trying to get into the 2012 Nickelodeon TMNT, and while it was good, I didn’t get into it as much (partially because i used to be very picky when it came to shows that I liked as a kid). As the RotTMNT, it took a while for me to get into it since it is very different from what I was used to seeing from the TMNT franchise, but it’s a great show nonetheless, and it takes new, interesting directions on the story that is enjoyable to watch (also I recently discovered that the animation team that does RotTMNT is the same one who does Lego Monkie Kid, so that’s cool!)

As for the drawing itself, I wanted to add onto the Rise prompt and make it a tall drawing. I imagined the turtles stacked onto one another and honestly didn’t do much planning. This was the kind of drawing that developed as I went rather than one I plan in advanced. It’s tricky and kind of a challenge, but I am very happy with how this turned out! The proportions may be a bit off, but I and my wrist are too tired at this point to bother fixing it!

Gust Rider- Armor (Light, Leather), Uncommon. A suit of armor created by a clever gnome who found herself frequently visiting aarakocra settlements. While wearing this suit of armor, you gain a flying speed of 45 ft., but you cannot gain altitude. While gliding, you lose 5 ft. of altitude at the end of each of your turns. Rise. (3/day) You cause gust of wind to blast from underneath, as a bonus action, propelling you 30 ft. Into the air. This can be used while on the ground or in the air, but proves ineffective while submerged in water.
