I think so often about a person I saw going insane on a drug decrim post like a year ago. the op was like "there are plenty of extreme sports that I could perfectly legally start tomorrow with no practice that are exactly as (if not more) dangerous than using schedule 1 drugs like heroin" and this person just lost it. the thing that got me is that their main post was like "shut up with your fucking individualistic bullshit, your actions affect the people around you. saying 'I want to take heroin, I know the risks' is exactly like saying 'I don't want to get vaccinated, I know the risks,' they're both selfish and small minded" which. lol. lmao, even. but then they added something in the tags about "yes we need to destigmatize addiction but you can't tell people that using drugs is fine." as if they didn't even realize what they were saying. they nominally wanted to support addicts and recovery while straight-faced saying that using drugs is exactly like being anti-vaxx.

and this is a sentiment I've seen echoed in a lot of leftist leaning spaces. there are so many people who can just about handle the idea of supporting people in recovery but think it is the most evil and heinous thing in the world to use drugs in the first place, and they don't seem to even have a basic understanding that those two ideas are in conflict. like, dude, you can't "hate the sin love the sinner" on this one. if you want people to treat addicts better then you have to be cool with the idea that sometimes people want to use drugs. if you say you hate anyone who uses / wants to use drugs then you aren't really destigmatizing anything.

my fucking mom died at the hands of addiction and all i can think about is getting fucking high or killing myself. her body was sitting there for 7 fucking days decomposing before anybody called. i had to do a welfare check for her to be found. her friend was in the house after she died. there were maggots coming out of her nose when they found her. why the fuck does everything in my life have to be the way it is

not to autism/sickbrain project on main or whatever but i think connor should walk around in a semi-dissociated state, completely out of tune with his emotions, and have intermittent sensory overload episodes where the combination of internal and external input sends him into a self-destructive shutdown spiral where he just wants to rip his skin off because existing fucking sucks. as a treat
