happy one piece anime 25th anniversary and HAPPY ONE YEAR (and a bit) ANNIVERSARY OF ME STARTING ONE PIECE !!!!!!!!!!!
october 2023 feels like a lifetime and also a week ago and i am so so grateful for this stupid little pirate show and all the things it's made me feel over the past year. it is truly absurd the impact a story can have on you. i sure as hell didn't expect this one to, and yet here we are. wild
#i say a year and a bit because i actually have no clue when i started one piece#(i track most anniversaries of things i do based on messages i send to my friends#but i was too embarrassed to tell anyone i liked one piece for. several months)#BUT i managed to dig up an EVEN OLDER message than i initially thought where i talked about it#it was october 15th. which i consider my anniversary because#while it wasn't when i actually started it#it was when i became invested enough that my need to talk about it overcame the embarrassment i felt#which i think is as good a reason as any to celebrate#one piece#one piece 25th anniversary#one piece fanart#straw hat tag wall begins#monkey d luffy#luffy#roronoa zoro#zoro#cat burglar nami#nami#god usopp#usopp#black leg sanji#sanji one piece#tony tony chopper#chopper one piece#nico robin#robin one piece#cyborg franky#franky one piece#soul king brook#brook one piece

Bakugaiden IV & V Available For Streaming (Japan Only)
Well, this would explain why the subs got nuked earlier this year. It seems that both Bakugaiden series are now available for streaming on d-anime Store (dアニメストア).
[Source.]
d-anime Store is a streaming service owned by Japanese mobile phone service Docomo. For ¥550/month, users can watch current anime episodes 24 hours after initial airing as well as older series. The site offers a free trial period, but signing up requires a Japanese phone number, so streaming Bakugaiden is pretty much locked to Japan for now. No indication yet of what this means for future Bakugaiden news.
BTMND's resident translator, Sakaki, has additional commentary on the site formerly known as Twitter.
EDIT: Looks like both series are also being streamed on several other Japanese sites, partly to commemorate the 25th anniversary of IV:

Stuff I'm Looking Forward To in May
How is it already May? In addition to being Asian Pacific American Heritage Month as well as Orthodox Easter (5/5), Cinco de Mayo (5/5), Mother's Day (5/12) and Memorial Day (5/27) here is what's on my radar this month:
Movies:
The Idea of You
A Michael Showalter movie is always a highly anticipated for me. I was a huge fan of his comedy group The State and I named his film The Big Sick my #1 Movie of 2017. Since then his films have been mixed (including The Eyes of Tammy Faye) but they are always unique in their own way. His new one is a romantic drama with Anne Hathaway premiering on Amazon Prime Video on 5/2.
Star Wars Episode 1 The Phantom Menace
When the first Star Wars prequel was released in May 1999, there was no way any movie could live up to the expectation. While it's not perfect by any means, it is better than people initially thought. I saw it a few times in the theater in 1999 (including opening day) and in 2012, I saw the 3-D re-release. Without the hype and fanfare it wasn't bad. There's been quite a few revisionist appraisals of Ep 1 in recent years. In addition to select theaters doing a Star Wars Eps 1-9 marathon, Ep 1 is getting a 25th anniversary re-release on 5/3.
Unfrosted
Jerry Seinfeld is a comic genius! Now he's making his directorial feature film debut with a comedy biopic about the creation of the Pop Tart in 1963. With Jerry directing, co-writing, producing and starring I'm on board! Premieres 5/3 on Netflix.
Let It Be
The 1970 documentary about The Beatles recording their final album has been out of print for years and now it has been remastered by Peter Jackson for a Disney+ streaming premiere on 5/8. Fingers crossed a blu-ray follows!
Back to Black
Amy Winehouse had such a short musical career, but her legacy lives on. After the excellent documentary Amy in 2015, she is now getting the music biopic treatment directed by Sam Taylor-Johnson, the director of the criminally underrated Nowhere Boy about the early days of John Lennon. Opens 5/17.
IF
John Krasinski proved himself as a director with A Quiet Place. Now he is back with a fantasy about imaginary friends and it's one of those "everyone is in it" casts! Opens 5/17.
Hit Man
A Richard Linklater film is always a high film priority for me! His new action-comedy has been creating quite a buzz since its festival premiere last year. It's adapted from an article by Skip Hollandsworth and the last adaptation of his from Linklater was Bernie! Star and co-writer Glen Powell has worked with Linklater on Everybody Wants Some!! and Apollo 10 1/2. I could not be more psyched! Limited theatrical release on 5/24 and Netflix premiere on 6/7.
Furiosa: A Mad Max Saga
2015's Mad Max: Fury Road, the 4th Mad Max movie, set the bar pretty high for high octane action. Now George Miller is back with a prequel about Furiosa. Opens 5/24.
Music:
Aerosmith Get Your Wings 50th Anniversary Limited Edition
In March, Aerosmith's second album turned 50! To celebrate the anniversary they are releasing a special edition vinyl on 5/17!
Slash Orgy of the Damned
GN'R guitarist Slash is back with his sixth solo album featuring tons of guest stars including Brian Johnson and Steven Tyler doing blues covers. Album drops 5/17!
Ringo Starr Crooked Boy
Sir Ringo Starr has been on a roll knocking out tons of EPs including EP3 and Rewind Forward. Now he has his 5th EP since 2021 (my God - put all of these EPs together and it'd be a killer album!). This one was written and produced by Linda Perry. After an RSD and digital release last month, a physical release will be on 5/31 (review to come)!
Film Festivals:
Independent Film Festival Boston
My favorite film festival in Boston (and possibly the world) takes place at the best indie cinemas in Boston from May 1-8 (see my preview here).
In a category all its own:
My birthday is on 5/20!

The Magic Behind Disney’s The Little Duck Advert
In this series, Squideo has examined the best ways to turn advertising content into gold. Now that we’ve broken down the eight key ingredients, it’s time to dive deep into some examples of stellar advertising. This week, the advert in question was picked by Squideo’s Creative Director Hannah Bales.
When asked why this particular advert had become her favourite of all time, Hannah said: “I feel that all Disney Park ads are really impactful and meaningful. When I was growing up I remember the advert were the kid loses a balloon and chases it all over the park until he finds Mickey Mouse holding it. The duckling one is the same, it really gives me goosebumps. It’s just so cute!”
Disnetasia 1992
Disney hardly needs an introduction but let’s look into the history of Disneyland Paris. When The Little Duck was released in 2018, the amusement park had just celebrated its 25th anniversary. The European version of Disneyland had its ups and downs since it opened in 1992, with speculation in the early 2000s that it would go bankrupt. By 2022, its 30th anniversary, Disneyland Paris was the most-visited theme park in Europe – yet it has still faced financial uncertainty. In 2014, the Walt Disney Company had to issue a €1 billion bailout as the park faced mounting debts. The park needs at least 15 million visitors every year to make it sustainable, yet in some years it fell short of this goal and in others it barely scraped by.
Part of the park’s initial failure was its uncertain branding. Was it an American theme park in Europe? Would it emulate European or French culture? Before it opened, a notable theatre director, Ariane Mnouchkine, warned that EuroDisney would be akin to a “cultural Chernobyl” and the official opening was marred by protests. In the first nine weeks, almost 10 percent of staff quit. In its first year, the park recorded a $300 million loss and a $920 million loss in 1993. It didn’t turn a profit, small as it was, until 1995. To some, the park seemed doomed.
The Wise Little Disney
From this rocky start, the situation slowly improved for Disneyland Paris but its branding remained an issue. Within the first seventeen years of operation, the park changed its name five times; originally it was called the Euro Disney Resort.
Every expectation the Walt Disney Company had for the park was proved wrong, from the demand for hotel rooms, European cuisine and alcohol, to the duration of guests’ stay at the park. The name was another example of this. For American customers, Euro sounded exotic but in Europe the word was associated with currency and business.
Attendance increased after changing the park’s name and altering some aspects of the experience, but its finances remained shaky. It wasn’t until 2019, that Disneyland Paris recorded its first annual profit in eleven years. Incidentally, the year before, it ran a new advert promoting the park.
Produced by BETC, The Little Duck notably launched a new slogan for the park: Where Magic Gets Real. Described as a short film rather than an advert its accompanying press release stated:
"This film represents an evolution of the brand's communication, moving towards the sort of universal storytelling that the Disney brand embodies. The epic saga, blending together love, humour and courage, is aimed at all of those—big and small—who grew up with a Disney idol whom they still wish to meet one day. Because at Disneyland Paris, magic is for real."
Duck, Duck, Disney, Goosebumps
The Little Duck received over 4.1 million views on YouTube and was broadcast across Europe in 2018. The following year was the first that Disneyland Paris turned a profit in eleven years. 2018 was also the first year Disneyland Paris exceeded 15 million visitors in several years, although this boom was inspired by 25th Anniversary celebrations.
The impact of The Little Duck cannot be understated, however, and greatly contributed to the park’s present branding. But why did The Little Duck become such a big hit?
Natural Nostalgia
The advert’s main character bears striking resemblance to The Ugly Duckling, which Disney had adapted as a short, animated film in 1939 for its Silly Symphonies series (The Ugly Duckling was the last in the series). The duckling in The Little Duck is white, unlike the typical pale yellow of a real duckling – just like the character in The Ugly Duckling. Even for audiences unfamiliar with the Disney adaptation, the fairy-tale is well known in European culture as it was originally created by Hans Christian Anderson.
Included in the video is the character mascot of Donald Duck from the park, which visitors to any Walt Disney theme park will be familiar with hugging, as well as several pages from Walt Disney's Comics and Stories. The magazine ran from 1940 and had a significant readership as one of the best-selling comic books of all time.
Nostalgia might seem like an odd trait to factor into a theme park advert, since the primary demographic targeted is children. However, when you consider the age of their parents these nostalgic tributes are a perfect way to tap into their childhood memories and encourage a trip to the place that made them: a Disney theme park.
Colourful Character
Mickey Mouse, as the principal Disney character, usually takes the lead in Disney adverts. The Little Duck, however, keeps the spotlight on another classic Disney character: Donald Duck. By breaking away from the expectation that Mickey Mouse will appear in the advert, The Little Duck became more memorable.
It also creates a distinction between the Mickey Mouse adverts that promote the American Disney theme parks, and this advert for Disneyland Paris. One of the park’s biggest issues in its early branding was how the European version differed from its American counterparts. The park replicated many successful aspects of Disneyland California and Disneyworld Florida, but failed to carve out a European image for itself. Common practices in America, like prohibiting the sale of alcohol within the park, proved unpopular in Europe. The food options were primarily American, which meant non-European visitors couldn’t sample different cuisine styles.
The brand needed to put a border between itself and American Disney; ideas could be exchanged but they should have a separate identity. Something The Little Duck accomplished when it chose Donald Duck over Mickey Mouse.
Enduring Emotion
Like Donald Duck, the duckling in the advert is anthropomorphised to create an emotional connection between the character and audience. While the duckling doesn’t talk (barring the odd quack and chirp) or wear clothes like Donald Duck, music and expressions are used to convey its hope, its sadness and its joy. The lack of a talking character or narration, of course, also makes it easier for the advert to be shown across multiple European countries; the continent was the focus for this marketing campaign despite the popularity of the park amongst North American and Asian tourists.
Before the advert was released, the character was promoted on Disneyland Paris’ Twitter account through a series of missing-style posters. That got people keeping an eye out for their adorable main character even before it graced TV screens.
Content Worth Gold

Monotech's 25 years of innovation in printing industry
Chennai-based printing solutions provider Monotech recently marked its 25th anniversary, celebrating a journey that began in 1999. From its humble beginnings, the company has grown into a leading supplier of a diverse range of equipment and solutions for the printing and packaging industry. Today, Monotech offers comprehensive solutions for pre-press, digital printing, digital enhancement, wide-format printing, engineering systems, labels and packaging, and printing software.
“Our journey started with a team of seven people. We faced many challenges but overcame them, and built a great team. Monotech has developed a product line that has facilitated the industry's digital transformation over the years,” says TP Jain, owner of Monotech.
Initially focused on the South Indian market, Monotech harbored ambitions of expanding across the country. The company began by importing refurbished imagesetters and scanners, supplying them to Indian customers. This strategic move helped Monotech establish a national presence. “This strategy paid off well, allowing us to supply value-for-money products from a variety of brands to customers across India,” Jain notes.
Key milestones in Monotech's Journey
A significant milestone was Monotech's venture into computer-to-plate (CtP) technology through a partnership with basysPrint. This collaboration proved to be highly successful. “In terms of new equipment, basysPrint was our big success. We sold a good number of units in India,” Jain says.
In 2007, Monotech partnered with Konica Minolta, a major turning point for the company in the production printing segment. After a successful run, in 2015, Konica Minolta Business Solutions India acquired Monotech's production printing business. “This was a major decision for us as it was a profitable business. We decided to unlock its value and move into manufacturing in a big way. Our Jetsci line of inkjet solutions has since become a global brand,” Jain explains.
In 2012-13, Monotech introduced Scodix to the Indian market, which became a significant success in the upper end of the print embellishment market. To cater to the entry-level market for embellishment, Monotech launched its own Pixelglow line. “Pixelglow has gained good traction despite initial challenges. We have managed a significant number of installations,” Jain says.
Monotech's second foray into the production printing market with Ricoh has also been fruitful. “This is our second inning in the production printing market, and we have had good success with this venture. Ricoh has a solid lineup of products. We see a lot of promise in this space,” Jain states.
Pioneering inkjet technology
Jain highlights the growing importance of inkjet technology in the printing industry, especially for book printing. “Monotech was an early entrant in this segment. Our Jetsci knowzzleJet inkjet web press for the book printing market has gained significant traction. At the industry level, a lot of book printers are keen to embrace this technology,” he says. Monotech’s in-house research and development department is dedicated to developing advanced inkjet products, including label embellishment, on-demand book printing in both monochrome and color, large format printers for signage applications, industrial printing applications, and their own enhancement engine.
“This year’s drupa showcased the dominance of inkjet technology, and it gives us immense satisfaction to see that Monotech was one of the early advocates of this technology,” Jain adds. “Our journey with inkjet has become almost mainstream, and we continue to innovate with our dedicated R&D units.”
Future prospects for the Indian print market
With India experiencing robust economic growth, Jain believes the Indian print market has a bright future. “If you ask me about the short term, I think FY2024-25 is going to be a great year. The first quarter was a little slow because of elections. Also, industry players wanted to wait for drupa to make any big decision. Now that the first quarter is over, I am of the view that the rest of the year will see strong growth,” he says.
Monotech's journey over the past 25 years has been marked by relentless innovation, strategic partnerships, and a commitment to advancing the printing industry through cutting-edge technology. As Monotech looks to the future, it aims to continue its legacy of excellence, driving growth and transformation in the printing industry.
“From the long-term point of view, I see a great time ahead for Monotech as we continue to innovate. At the Indian industry level too, I am very optimistic,” Jain concludes.

October 2016
Oct 1st - Taylor takes pictures with fans in Nashville. (x)
Oct 4th - Demi Lovato criticises Taylor in their Glamour magazine cover interview. (x)
To be honest, and this will probably get me in trouble, I don’t see anybody in any sort of squad that has a normal body. It’s kind of this false image of what people should look like. And what they should be like, and it’s not real…. It’s not realistic. And I think that having a song and a video about tearing Katy Perry down, that’s not women’s empowerment.
Demi defends themself on Twitter after the interview is published, saying they're 'not apologizing for saying what everyone wants to say.' (x)
Taylor's partnership with AT&T is announced, including her Super Saturday Night pre-Super Bowl performance which will take place on Feb 4th 2017 in Houston. (x)
Joe is in London attending the IWC Schaffhausen Dinner in Honour of the BFI. (x)
Oct 5th - Taylor FaceTimes with Cara and Dakota Johnson, who are both in LA, for Dakota's birthday. (x)
Oct 9th - Paul Sidoti (Taylor's guitarist) posts a photo of guitars in a rehearsal studio with the caption, 'Back in the saddle again.. #formula1' (x)
Oct 11th - Cara is seen leaving Cornelia Street. (x)
Taylor, Cara, Dakota and Suki Waterhouse meet at the Waverly Inn in the West Village at around 11pm. (x)
Oct 12th - Taylor attends a private Kings of Leon concert at Le Poisson Rouge in New York, along with Lorde, Lily Aldridge, Lily Donaldson, Cara, Suki, Martha, Dakota, Zoë Kravitz and Naomi Campbell. (x) They then go to the Bowery Hotel for the afterparty. (x)
The group is then papped leaving the Bowery Hotel and arriving at the Lovers of Today bar. Joe arrives at Lovers of Today with Lily D, Martha, and Martha's boyfriend Jason McDonald, while Taylor, Dakota, Cara and Zoë arrive moments later. (x) Given that Joe has a connection to the lead singer Caleb Followill (via his Billy Lynn costar Garrett), and arrived at the bar with others who were definitely at the concert and afterparty, it seems almost certain that he was at those events too. No media picks up on his presence at the time.
Oct 13th - Taylor goes out for dinner with Dakota and Cara in New York. (x) She then attends an Eliot Sumner concert at the Bowery Ballroom (not to be confused with the Bowery Hotel), along with Karlie, Suki, Lily D, Dakota, Cara, Zoë and Serena Williams. (x)
Taylor is wearing a temporary golden tattoo on her neck.
Oct 14th - Billy Lynn's Long Halftime Walk premieres at the New York Film Festival. (x) Joe walks the red carpet and does some promo. (x)
Eliotte, Kamilah and Melanie, three of Taylor's backup singers, are hanging out and probably rehearsing for the upcoming concert at F1. (x)
Oct 15th - Joe does some more promo with the rest of the Billy Lynn cast in New York. (x)
Taylor is in LA for a few days between the 13th and 16th recording Delicate (her golden neck tattoo is visible). (x)
Oct 16th - Lily D and Suki post videos of Olivia to their social media from Cornelia Street. (x) (x)
Oct 17th - Cara is seen leaving Cornelia Street. (x)
Oct 18th - Taylor is in rehearsals in Nashville for her upcoming F1 concert. Her golden neck tattoo is gone. (x) (x)
Oct 20th - Little Big Town releases Better Man as the lead single from their eighth studio album. (x) (The song was written by Taylor but this fact is not publicised upon the song's initial release.)
Oct 21st - Taylor posts an Instagram story from her bed. She has a cold and Meredith is making a racket and keeping her awake ahead of her concert in Texas the next day. (x)
Oct 22nd - Taylor files a counter-suit against radio DJ David Mueller, who is suing her because he lost his job after groping her at a 2013 meet and greet. By counter-suing him for assault and battery, she hopes to 'serve as an example to other women who may resist publicly reliving similar outrageous and humiliating acts.' (x)
Taylor performs her only concert of 2016 at the US F1 Grand Prix in Austin, Texas (saving the US Grand Prix from going bust in the process). She plays TIWYCF on piano, her first time performing the song live. (x) She has a cold and has to pause the show to blow her nose. (x) (While promoting Billy Lynn in Taiwan a few weeks later, Joe also has a cold.)
Oct 23rd - Taylor goes to Drake's 30th birthday party at Delilah restaurant in LA. Karlie, Zoë, Jari Haile, Kennedy Rayé, Halston Sage and the Haim sisters are there, as well as John Mayer and Katy Perry. (x) Taylor and Halston both have stick-on gold star tattoos on their chests. (x)
Oct 24th - Taylor commemorates the tenth anniversary of her first album with an Instagram post. (x)
Given that Taylor does not leave LA until the 28th but is not papped anywhere, it is possible that she uses her time there to work on I Did Something Bad at Conway Studios with Max and Shellback. (x) The Making Of clips for the song show that it was recorded sometime after Taylor's haircut on the 24th Sep. (Don't Blame Me was not recorded until some point after December 13th, as she wears the J necklace in the Making Of clips and we know that was a 27th birthday present. (x)) However, it isn't possible to precisely date these clips.
Oct 25th - Katy Perry attends Kanye's concert in LA and posts a video on her Instagram story dancing along to the Famous lyric about Taylor. (x)
Oct 27th - There are rumours that Taylor and Drake are dating, following her appearance at his birthday party, but these are shut down, presumably by Tree. (x) (x)
Oct 28th - Calvin drops the music video for My Way. Some think it contains several references to Taylor. (x)
Karlie wishes Drake a belated happy birthday by posting an Instagram picture of herself and Taylor at his party. (x)
In the evening Taylor's plane goes from LA to NYC, and then from NYC to London. However, she stays completely under the radar and is not spotted anywhere in London. (x) At the time some people theorise that this means she's seeing Tom again, but in hindsight she almost certainly went to see Joe.
Oct 31st - Taylor's plane returns to the US from London. (x)
Taylor has a small Halloween party at her Cornelia Street townhouse. Guests include Gigi, Martha, Lily D, Camila, Kennedy Rayé and Emmie Gundler. Taylor dresses up as Deadpool and wears Ryan Reynolds' actual costume from the movie. (x)
Camila talks about the party a year later on Jimmy Fallon and mentions that at one point 'two attractive guys' arrived, prompting Camila to run to the bathroom and change out of her grandma costume. (x) (x) Apparently one of the guys was dressed as Spiderman. (x) If so that was probably Joe, since that's his favourite superhero. (x) Also probably a couples' costume, since Deadpool and Spiderman have a bromance going on in the comics. However, I couldn't find any original interviews where Camila mentions a Spiderman being at the party (I know she mentioned the party in some radio interviews which have since disappeared from the internet so maybe it was one of them).
Anyways, it's very likely that the guys attending what was otherwise a girl's night/Kennedy Rayé's birthday were Joe and a friend, especially since the next day Taylor's private jet made a seemingly random round trip to London and back. Presumably this trip was to drop Joe (and possibly his friend) back in London, in time for Joe to fly from the UK to Taiwan and China for Billy Lynn promo. (x) (x)

Piper L-14 Army Cruiser ‘555531’ (EC-AAP) by Alan Wilson Via Flickr: c/n 5-3007 Full US military serial 45-55531 This is the only remaining example of an L-14. A total of 850 were originally ordered but were cancelled at the end of WW2 with only seven being completed. Present at the ‘L-Birds Back To Normandy’ event at Saint André de l'Eure airfield, to commemorate the 75th Anniversary of D-Day. Saint André de l'Eure, Normandy, France 8th June 2019 The following info is from www.piperclubfrance.com:- “S/n 5-3007 was manufactured in 1945 by the Piper Aircraft Company of Lock Haven, Pennsylvania. The US Army gave it the number 5-55531. After the initial test flights this aircraft was then sold, following the cancellation of the bulk order by the US Army, to the Falcon Flying School of Miami, where it was given the civil registration NC-41594. This was early in 1946. Not long after, on 12th March 1946, it was sold and exported to Cuba where it was re-registered as CU-P18 and based at Santa Fe airport just outside Havana. Shortly afterwards it was acquired by a Cuban firm, Auto Moderno S.A. and re-registered as CU-N18. In April 1947 the aircraft was bought by a Spaniard, Don Jose Luis Lopez de Carrizosa, the Marquis of Merito, who shipped it to Spain where it was registered as EC-AAP on 10th May 1947. It then flew for his company, AEROTECNICA S.A. On 2nd April 1952 it was sold to Doña Maria Victoria Puentedura Ojea and flew with the Malaga Aero Club. On 6th August 1955 it was bought by Don Manuel Lopez Manteola who took the aircraft to Asturias. It was then sold again, on 25th January 1956, to Don Antonio Figaredo, who continued to keep it at Asturias until, its flying days almost over, it was transferred to Leon for a complete overhaul which, in fact, never took place. In 1989 it was found there, in Leon, by its present owner who, in 1994, moved it to Burgos in order to restore it to a state of complete airworthiness. In May 2003 it flew again!”

Tracking down manhole covers in Ikaho Onsen
Tracking down manhole covers in Ikaho Onsen
Let’s face it, Gunma Prefecture isn’t really known for much besides onsen. We’re a pretty rural prefecture so tourists don’t exactly flock to Gunma. Except for a certain group of people who treat coming to Gunma like a pilgrimage. Initial D fans.
Initial D was a very popular street racing anime/manga that began in the mid-90’s. The world of Initial D is based around Ikaho Onsen and Mt. Haruna…

What happened the day I was born?
Sunday June 3, 1973
US date format: 6/3/1973, UK date format: 3/6/1973
June 3, 1973 was a Sunday and it was the 154th day of the year 1973. It was the 22nd Sunday of that year. The next time you can reuse your old 1973 calendar will be in 2029. Both calendars will be exactly the same! The US president was Richard Nixon (Republican). Led Zeppelin - Live in Los Angeles, California (some feel this is Led Zeppelin's best performance of the 1973 North American tour). Famous people born on this day include Sargis Sargsian and Charles Emanuel. In that special week of June people in US were listening to My Love by Paul McCartney. In UK Can The Can by Suzi Quatro was in the top 5 hits. Jeremy, directed by Arthur Barron, was one of the most viewed movies released in 1973 while The Matlock Paper by Robert Ludlum was one of the best selling books. On TV people were watching Praise the Lord. If you liked videogames you were probably playing Gotcha or TREK73.
On June 3, 1973
A Tupolev Tu-144 crashes at the Paris air show. The aircraft had been heavily modified compared to the initial prototype, featuring engine nacelles split on either side of the fuselage, landing gear that retracted into the nacelles, and retractable foreplanes. The crash occurred in front of 250,000 people, including designer Alexei Tupolev, towards the end of the show, following a display by the pre-production Concorde aircraft. The aircraft appears to be making a landing approach, with the landing gear out and the "moustache" foreplanes extended, but then engages all four engines and climbs rapidly. Possibly stalling below 2,000 ft (610 m), the aircraft pitches over and goes into a steep dive. Trying to pull out of the subsequent dive with the engines again at full power, the Tu-144 breaks up in mid-air, destroying 15 houses, and killing all six people on board the Tu-144 and eight more on the ground. Three children are among the dead, and sixty people are severely injured.
Death of Jean Batmale, French footballer and manager (b. 1895).

Birthdate of Jan Reker, Dutch footballer and manager.
10th anniversary
The Buddhist crisis: Soldiers of the Army of the Republic of Vietnam attack protesting Buddhists in Hu, South Vietnam, with liquid chemicals from tear-gas grenades, causing 67 people to be hospitalized for blistering of the skin and respiratory ailments.
Birthdate of Rudy Demotte, Belgian politician, 8th Minister-President of the Walloon Region; and Toshiaki Karasawa, Japanese actor.
Death of Edmond Decottignies, French weightlifter (b. 1893); Pope John XXIII (b. 1881); and Nâzm Hikmet Ran, Turkish poet, author, and playwright (b. 1902).

If you were born on June 3, 1973 here is the nature that you posses.
You have a positive attitude towards life and are generous in nature. You are also very trustworthy.
You are most likely to be an introvert and have very few friends. You are very suspicious and do not trust others much.
You are very sensitive and are often too moved by somebody else’s comment and you think over it for too long.
You are a thinker, but sometimes you might get carried away and lose focus from reality. You also have a tendency to procrastinate.
You are very helpful in nature but are also short tempered which might hamper your relationship with others.
You are independent and love to help those in need. You are also stubborn in nature.
Due to your stubborn nature you find it hard to work amicably with others and find difficulty in dealing with situations where some compromise and conformation is required. You ought to change your attitude otherwise you might find it hard to survive in your workplace.
Base on the data published by the United Nations Population Division, an estimated 121,831,979 babies were born throughout the world in the year 1973. The estimated number of babies born on 3rd June 1973 is 333,786. That’s equivalent to 232 babies every minute. Try to imagine if all of them are crying at the same time.
In the United States, the most popular baby name is Jennifer. This name was given to 62,451 baby girls. For the boys it’s Michael. This name was recorded 67,846 times in the year 1973. Any chance you are Jennifer or Michael?
There have been 16,801 days from the day I was born up to today. If I’ve been sleeping 8 hours daily since birth, then I have slept a total of 5,600 days or 15.33 years. I spent 33% of my life sleeping. Since night and day always follow each other, there were precisely 569 full moons after I was born up to this day. How many of them did I see?

Welcome to the family, KATT! Your application to COLLEEN BERRY (FC: Chyler Leigh) was accepted. I am really happy to give you your third and last character! Make sure to read the beginners checklist, and remember, have fun! I can’t wait to roleplay with you! Have fun!
IN CHARACTER
CHARACTER NAME: Colleen Elyse Berry CHARACTER AGE & DATE OF BIRTH: 37 & November 25th OCCUPATION: Professor at Ohio State FACE CLAIM: Chyler Leigh HOMETOWN & CITY WHERE LIVES NOW: Unknown (Born On The Road) & Lima, OH SEXUAL ORIENTATION & GENDER: Queer & Cis-Female RELATIONSHIP STATUS: Single POSITIVE TRAITS: Protective, Family Oriented, Determined NEGATIVE TRAITS: Reckless, Impulsive, Excitable CHARACTER QUOTE/LYRIC: There’s a lot of irony surrounding someone who grew up in the circus that’s allergic to peanuts, but it just proves I was born to defy any reasonable explanations about life and how I’m supposed to live it. ANYTHING ELSE?: n/a SECONDARY CHARACTER CHOICE: n/a
HEADCANONS
Colleen was born Colleen Waller. For the first ten years of her life, her and her twin sister, Theresa, were raised on the road, as part of a circus troupe. At the age of three, Colleen’s parents died in an accident. The girls were kept in the circus, being cared for by the troupe. Colleen ran away from the circus at ten, while in Ohio. She’d tried to get her sister to join her in running away but the much quieter girl refused. She managed to be found by police and because the circus hadn’t noticed her disappearance, thanks to her sister covering for her, she was put into the system.
It was shortly after this that Colleen met Breeze. She was drawn to the younger girl, having had many “younger siblings” who she often tried to get to smile or laugh. Seeing the younger girl so down, Colleen did her best to befriend the girl, wanting to make her feel like someone wanted her. When the Berrys came through, Colleen worried she’d lose her new found little sister, but it seemed the Berrys were looking for more than one child to care for. The idea of once again being part of a big family, excited Colleen. When the Berrys adopted her, she was thankful, the idea of possibly having to return to the system scared her, because she was older than most and likely to age out of the system.
She was somewhere between a nerd and a jock, after being adopted by the Berrys. She played field hockey, did gymnastics, and sung in choir. She worked out between sessions of D&D and playing video games. She was just an all around people person, a remnant of being raised communally in a circus. She also took to teaching anyone willing, the tricks she’d learned in the circus. These things didn’t change with age, but she slowly started to hone in on what she wanted to do with her life. She wanted to teach, specifically, she wanted to teach English. While at the University of Pittsburgh, Colleen took an interest in feminism, queer history, and the ways in which those things overlapped with each other and the world at large. It led her to continue on through both a master’s degree and her doctorate, so that she could become a tenured professor. Being an activist and a professor seemed to go hand in hand for Colleen.
Once Colleen started college, she started her hunt for Theresa. She tracked the circus, and Theresa’s life, until the troupe disbanded, three years after Colleen ran away. Unfortunately, the trail seemed to go cold at that point. However, Colleen kept her hopes up. Anytime a travelling circus came through Pittsburgh, or the surrounding areas, she’d go. It was while at one of these that Colleen found her sister. It had actually been a case of mistaken identity by a young boy that had led to the reunion of the sisters. The young boy was revealed to be her nephew, Eli. The pair vowed to keep in touch, as Theresa really did enjoy life on the road, where Colleen had learned to settle down. Anytime their paths cross, they meet up, though it is rare. Colleen is just happy to have her twin back in life.
Despite the fact Colleen settled herself in Pittsburgh, working as a professor at the University of Pittsburgh, she was always quick to come home for family events. Any excuse to go home and see her family, she took. Many times she considered transferring to Ohio State, but most times they couldn’t offer her the transfer and her tenure, at the same time. However, as soon as the offer was on the table, as she kept in contact with Ohio State, she took it. Returning home to Lima and to her family.
CONNECTIONS
Raven Berry & Tyrese Berry (PARENTS): Colleen is forever thankful to the Berrys for adopting her and does her best to see them as many times a year as possible, always coming home for family holidays and sending them gifts on their birthdays and anniversary. Breeze Rose-Berry (SISTER): Colleen is closest to Breeze, of her siblings, with good reason. They bonded initially in the system and Colleen became extremely protective over her. Breeze had always been open to Colleen’s stranger ideas, including teaching circus tricks to. That hasn’t changed and their bond has only gotten stronger over the years. Leon Berry, Leroy Berry, Monica Berry & Evelyn Berry (SIBLINGS): While she’s not as close to her other siblings as she is Breeze, Colleen still considers herself close with them and makes a point to spend time with them whenever possible. Rachel Berry (NIECE): Colleen did her best to establish a relationship with Rachel, even when the girl was young. Being so family oriented, Colleen did her best to be around for every big event in Rachel’s life, even when it meant skipping classes, long drives, and red eye flights from Pittsburgh back home to Lima, and later to New York. She supports Rachel the best she can, in everything the girl does, just happy to know her family is happy. Iris Rose-Berry (SISTER-IN-LAW): Colleen will be the first to admit she’s a little mad that the Berry sibling married to Iris, is Breeze. Not that she’d want it any other way, because she knows that they’re happy. She only ever brings it up when she’s looking to fluster Iris. She considers herself close to the other woman and does her best to hang out with her when they both can. They get together most often to commiserate over their mutual dislike of Breeze’s job and their inability to do more than just support the woman in it.

Over the past few months I made this list for fun to show some of my family how Audi (as with most other automobile companies) share engines between models. I also wanted to show that just because two engines may look similar, doesn’t mean they are, they can have drastically different specifications. For instance, the 4.2 V8 in the B7 S4 is similar to the 4.2 in the C6 A6 (albeit tuned differently); however the 4.2 in the B7 RS4 is a whole ’nother animal.
The list started with the B7 A4, S4, and RS4 and I got a bit carried away!
**Some notes**
I’m know the list probably isn't perfect, but this more so just for fun and for having a list right in front of you where it is easy to compare details. Most of the data in here is from the top of my head (ha, I wish), from years of reading about cars in magazines, forums, websites, etc. and of course, I had a bit of help Wikipedia.
The data in this list represents the American versions of these models; however, I included some notable models from the European market, just to compare them (or because I’m envious we didn’t get them in the United States…yes you, C6 RS6). I’d happily add more from other markets later.
For some models I have a side note saying Europe only, I know these models may have also been available in parts of Asia, Latin America, or other countries/continents; I mean no disrespect, I’m just not as knowledgeable about the availability of models in those other countries; but as I learn more, I’ll happily go more in depth about specific markets and which models are offered there.
Also, I didn’t include diesel engines; I plan on adding them at some point.
The horsepower is in brake horsepower, I know that isn’t the only thing that matters, but it’s what I have so far. Initially I was just going to put the engine configuration and displacement but I wanted to add the hp ratings to show that just because it’s the same engine configuration/size doesn’t mean it’s the same power. If anybody has dyno results or wheel horsepower numbers for any of these models that they would like to share, feel free to let me know and I’ll start making a list to add them in the future.
I am aware that my generations (B6, B7, C6, etc.) aren’t perfect and may not match up exactly. This started just as a list for the A/S/RS4 models, then I added the A/S/RS6, and then I figured I’d add pretty much everything else. I tried to fit the generations for different models/chassis’ into a similar time frame when they were using the same engines across different models.
Also I know the T and TT may not match the badging on the car (for instance the I put 4.0TT for the C7 S6 even though the badge on the fender says 4.0T). I’d rather show if it is a single turbo engine vs. a twin/bi-turbo engine than match the badging. However, I kept the T for the supercharged 3.0 V6 engine. I considered writing it as 3.0S or 3.0S/C but I figured that would just make it more confusing, especially mixed in with the S4, too many S’s. However, doing this may have made it more confusing, so I might change it to S/C down the line.
Eventually I’ll add more to this list, make it look a bit nicer, and touch up my grammar (I fall victim to run-on sentences)... I’ll update along the way!
I plan on adding more vehicles, such as Allroad models, SUVs and crossovers. I would also like to add older vehicles, such as the 4000, 5000, and Quattro. On top of that I think it would be fun to include some rally cars, but the engines and power seemed to fluctuate so much race-to-race, so we’ll see. Either way it’d be awesome to compare Audi’s production engines to engines like the crazy inline-5 in the Group-B Quattro that Walter Röhrl drove at Pikes Peak.
I also would like to add more details on the cars/engines later, such as lb-ft torque, whp, quarter mile times, 0-60 times, weight, drivetrain (for the few FWD cars and the RWD R8 V10 RWS), top speed (restricted and unrestricted), differentiate more on body styles (Avant, Cabrio, coupe, saloon/sedan, etc.), and mention if it was produced at quattro GmbH / Audi Sport Gmbh.
At some point I might color code the engines or something along those lines... I mean the initial reason I made this list was to show how different models share engines (although with slightly different tunes/internals) so it would be helpful to have the similar engines to stand out.
Finally, I am not perfect, and I whipped this together pretty quickly last night. I know I can clean it up a bit, and there may be some mistakes, feel free to let me know as I am open to constructive criticism.
Thanks and enjoy! ☺

Happy First Contact Day!
While the Enterprise D crew informed Cochrane that this was the legit first contact with an alien race, I couldn't help but imagine a hypothetical initial exchange if Cochrane was aware of legendary alien contacts in the past.
And on a different note, Wil Wheaton hosted a panel with Patrick Stewart, Jonathan Frakes, Brent Spiner, and Alice Krieg to celebrate the 25th anniversary of the First Contact movie. (x)

25 years later, Firestone Walker Brewing Company reflects before looking to the future, starting with a rare DBA release.
Press Release
Paso Robles, CA: In early 1996, two brothers-in-law launched their humble pursuit of the perfect beer. After acquiring a second-hand brewhouse from a junkyard in Los Angeles, they went to work in a converted shed on the back-forty of the family vineyard. Their first beer was Double Barrel Ale (DBA)—and the rest is history.
Now, 25 years later, Double Barrel Ale is being recast with a new “heritage” look that draws from the original design, reacquainting beer lovers with a British-style pale ale that Adam Firestone and David Walker have brewed continuously since day one. The new-look Double Barrel Ale is rolling out to Firestone Walker’s California markets this month.
To commemorate the brewery’s 25th anniversary, Firestone Walker has also launched an oral history series and look-back video, starting with the precarious first chapter of the brewery’s existence from 1996 through 2000. The video and initial oral history can be viewed at FirestoneBeer.com/stories.
Firestone Walker has also released a new short film highlighting its sustainability initiatives under the banner of Brewing for Tomorrow, all in the spirit of looking ahead to the next 25 years by addressing three key categories: clean energy, water conservation and waste elimination. The new short film and sustainability overview can be viewed at FirestoneBeer.com/brewing-for-tomorrow.
Firestone Walker’s sustainability initiatives have taken a massive step forward this year with the launch of the brewery’s new 9.7-acre solar array, which is one of the largest on-site solar arrays in the craft beer industry. This array ensures that the majority of Firestone Walker’s beer is now brewed with California sunshine, offsetting more than 3,000 metric tons of carbon emissions annually, equal to the carbon sequestered by 4,220 acres of mature forestland.
“California’s Central Coast has been our home for a few generations— we have an affection for this place and feel an obligation to treat it as well as we possibly can,” Walker said. “Solar power gives us another reason to smile.”
Added Firestone, “Even after 25 years, we still believe that we can build a brewery of the future.”
