I feel it is important to note that the number one rule for writing romances is this: If the characters have to kiss for one to know that they are in love, they are not in love.
Subsequently, in any well written romance, characters do not have to explicitly kiss their romantic interest or confess to their romantic interest for the reader to understand that they are in love. 90% of communication is not put into words. There are little details, little hints. The art of romance is in its subtle storytelling.

Anansi Boys by Neil Gaiman (2005)
When Fat Charlie's dad named something, it stuck. Like calling Fat Charlie "Fat Charlie." Even now, 20 years later, Charlie Nancy can't shake that name, one of the many embarrassing "gifts" his father bestowed-before he dropped dead on a karaoke stage and ruined Fat Charlie's life. Because Mr. Nancy left Fat Charlie things. Things like the tall, good-look-ing stranger who appears on Charlie's doorstep, who appears to be the brother he never knew. A brother as different from Charlie as night is from day, a brother who's going to show Charlie how to lighten up and have a lit-the fun. And all of a sudden, things start getting very interesting for Fat Charlie. Exciting, scary, and deeply funny, Anansi Boys is a kaleidoscopic journey deep into myth, a wild adventure, as Neil Gaiman shows us where gods come from, and how to survive your family.
Gemma Doyle by Libba Bray (2003-2007)
It's 1895, and after the suicide of her mother, 16-year-old Gemma Doyle is shipped off from the life she knows in India to Spence, a proper boarding school in England. Lonely, guilt-ridden, and prone to visions of the future that have an uncomfortable habit of coming true, Gemma's reception there is a chilly one. To make things worse, she's been followed by a mysterious young Indian man, a man sent to watch her. But why? What is her destiny? And what will her entanglement with Spence's most powerful girls—and their foray into the spiritual world—lead to?
Babel: An Arcane History by R. F. Kuang (2022)
Traduttore, traditore: An act of translation is always an act of betrayal.
1828. Robin Swift, orphaned by cholera in Canton, is brought to London by the mysterious Professor Lovell. There, he trains for years in Latin, Ancient Greek, and Chinese, all in preparation for the day he'll enroll in Oxford University's prestigious Royal Institute of Translation — also known as Babel. Babel is the world's center of translation and, more importantly, of silver-working: the art of manifesting the meaning lost in translation through enchanted silver bars, to magical effect. Silver-working has made the British Empire unparalleled in power, and Babel's research in foreign languages serves the Empire's quest to colonize everything it encounters.
Oxford, the city of dreaming spires, is a fairytale for Robin; a utopia dedicated to the pursuit of knowledge. But knowledge serves power, and for Robin, a Chinese boy raised in Britain, serving Babel inevitably means betraying his motherland. As his studies progress Robin finds himself caught between Babel and the shadowy Hermes Society, an organization dedicated to sabotaging the silver-working that supports imperial expansion. When Britain pursues an unjust war with China over silver and opium, Robin must decide: Can powerful institutions be changed from within, or does revolution always require violence? What is he willing to sacrifice to bring Babel down?
Magnus Chase and the Gods of Asgard by Rick Riordan (2015-2017)
Magnus Chase has seen his share of trouble. Ever since that terrible night two years ago when his mother told him to run, he has lived alone on the streets of Boston, surviving by his wits, staying one step ahead of the police and the truant officers.
One day, Magnus learns that someone else is trying to track him down—his uncle Randolph, a man his mother had always warned him about. When Magnus tries to outmaneuver his uncle, he falls right into his clutches. Randolph starts rambling about Norse history and Magnus's birthright: a weapon that has been lost for thousands of years.
The more Randolph talks, the more puzzle pieces fall into place. Stories about the gods of Asgard, wolves, and Doomsday bubble up from Magnus's memory. But he doesn't have time to consider it all before a fire giant attacks the city, forcing him to choose between his own safety and the lives of hundreds of innocents. . . .
Sometimes, the only way to start a new life is to die.
Abhorsen by Garth Nix (1995-2016)
Sent to a boarding school in Ancelstierre as a young child, Sabriel has had little experience with the random power of Free Magic or the Dead who refuse to stay dead in the Old Kingdom. But during her final semester, her father, the Abhorsen, goes missing, and Sabriel knows she must enter the Old Kingdom to find him. She soon finds companions in Mogget, a cat whose aloof manner barely conceals its malevolent spirit, and Touchstone, a young Charter Mage long imprisoned by magic, now free in body but still trapped by painful memories.
As the three travel deep into the Old Kingdom, threats mount on all sides. And every step brings them closer to a battle that will pit them against the true forces of life and death--and bring Sabriel face-to-face with her own destiny.
The Starless Sea by Erin Morgenstern (2019)
Zachary Ezra Rawlins is a graduate student in Vermont when he discovers a mysterious book hidden in the stacks. As he turns the pages, entranced by tales of lovelorn prisoners, key collectors, and nameless acolytes, he reads something strange: a story from his own childhood. Bewildered by this inexplicable book and desperate to make sense of how his own life came to be recorded, Zachary uncovers a series of clues--a bee, a key, and a sword--that lead him to a masquerade party in New York, to a secret club, and through a doorway to an ancient library, hidden far below the surface of the earth.
What Zachary finds in this curious place is more than just a buried home for books and their guardians--it is a place of lost cities and seas, lovers who pass notes under doors and across time, and of stories whispered by the dead. Zachary learns of those who have sacrificed much to protect this realm, relinquishing their sight and their tongues to preserve this archive, and also those who are intent on its destruction.
Together with Mirabel, a fierce, pink-haired protector of the place, and Dorian, a handsome, barefoot man with shifting alliances, Zachary travels the twisting tunnels, darkened stairwells, crowded ballrooms, and sweetly-soaked shores of this magical world, discovering his purpose--in both the mysterious book and in his own life.
The Roots of Chaos by Samantha Shannon (2019-2023) The House of Berethnet has ruled Inys for a thousand years. Still unwed, Queen Sabran the Ninth must conceive a daughter to protect her realm from destruction--but assassins are getting closer to her door.
Ead Duryan is an outsider at court. Though she has risen to the position of lady-in-waiting, she is loyal to a hidden society of mages. Ead keeps a watchful eye on Sabran, secretly protecting her with forbidden magic.
Across the dark sea, Tané has trained all her life to be a dragonrider, but is forced to make a choice that could see her life unravel.
Meanwhile, the divided East and West refuse to parley, and forces of chaos are rising from their sleep.
The Winternight Trilogy by Katherine Arden (2017-2019)
Winter lasts most of the year at the edge of the Russian wilderness, and in the long nights, Vasilisa and her siblings love to gather by the fire to listen to their nurse’s fairy tales. Above all, Vasya loves the story of Frost, the blue-eyed winter demon. Wise Russians fear him, for he claims unwary souls, and they honor the spirits that protect their homes from evil.
Then Vasya’s widowed father brings home a new wife from Moscow. Fiercely devout, Vasya’s stepmother forbids her family from honoring their household spirits, but Vasya fears what this may bring. And indeed, misfortune begins to stalk the village.
But Vasya’s stepmother only grows harsher, determined to remake the village to her liking and to groom her rebellious stepdaughter for marriage or a convent. As the village’s defenses weaken and evil from the forest creeps nearer, Vasilisa must call upon dangerous gifts she has long concealed—to protect her family from a threat sprung to life from her nurse’s most frightening tales.
The Tale of Despereaux by Kate DiCamillo (2003)
As the only surviving mouse of the litter, Despereaux was always considered the loser, the runt, so naturally, he falls in love with a princess named Pea. The story also tells of a mouse called Roscuro, who lives in the darkness but wishes for light, and Miggery Sow, a serving girl who wants one wish. They set off on a journey that will end them up in a terrible dungeon, a wonderful castle, and of course, with each other.
Legends & Lattes by Travis Baldree (2022-2024)
Worn out after decades of packing steel and raising hell, Viv the orc barbarian cashes out of the warrior’s life with one final score. A forgotten legend, a fabled artifact, and an unreasonable amount of hope lead her to the streets of Thune, where she plans to open the first coffee shop the city has ever seen.
However, her dreams of a fresh start pulling shots instead of swinging swords are hardly a sure bet. Old frenemies and Thune’s shady underbelly may just upset her plans. To finally build something that will last, Viv will need some new partners and a different kind of resolve.

QUESTION
When reading Magnus Chase, did you read Inge's name as "(h) inge" or "in geh"? I've always read it the first way but a while back I was listening to the audio book version of it in YouTube and the person I was listening to said it the second way. I had never heard it that way and I had no clue who he was talking about for a second.
Same question for Hearthstone. Do you say "Harth-stone" or "Hearth-stone" I've heard both but I've always said "Harth"
I NEED ANSWERS

Genshin Impact: The Magnus Archives AU
or How to Mix Media With Wildly Different Vibes Because They Have This One Thing in Common
OK SO
You wanted to know! There's an audience for my thoughts! I shall inflict them upon you!
So we have the Archons in Genshin, inflicting benevolent or neutral concepts upon the world. We have the Fears in TMA, inflicting, well, fears upon the world.
*approaches blender*
(Be warned, this is probably rather superficial, no deep character analysis here, literally just "Which Archon could be which Fear?" Also, I'll use the Archons' common names because I like them more, except for Focalors for obvious reasons)
1. Venti - The Vast
Well, first of all, it fits elementally, but that alone does not make a Fear. Venti's major topics are those of being untethered, lost, small in comparison to everything. The thing is, he's not inflicting those on anyone, unless him abandoning Mondstadt counts. For the time being, let's consider this to be enough.
2. Zhongli - The Buried
In comparison, this one is easy. There has been very literal use of stone and earth to bury his enemies (just ask Osial). The Buried's more metaphorical manifestation are obligation and debt, especially financial debt, and the God of Contracts and Mora seems tailor-made for the position.
(We also have a rather obvious pick for a devoted avatar - Ningguang)
3. Ei - The Lonely or The End
A very strong case can be made for both.
The Lonely: She closed off the country and divided its people, abandoned Kunikuzushi and eagerly isolated even herself.
The End: She started the Vision Hunt, where deaths of ambitions metaphorically or literally meant deaths of the people themselves, chased the kind of eternity that is identical to death in its stillness, and is famous for how her Musou no Hitotachi is an unavoidable strike.
I like The End more, but take your pick!
4. Nahida - The Eye
Another easy one. It's knowledge, knowledge, desire for knowledge all the way down. Additionally, through the Akasha Terminal, she was able to execute surveillance, and currently is capable of reading thoughts. And yes, we have an archon who may not want to ever execute their power maliciously - but who definitely could.
Being assigned the colour green is only a nice bonus :D
(Two avatars quickly come to mind - Alhaitham and Cyno. I want to see them and/or Nahida "ceaseless watcher"ing someone. Badly.)
5. Focalors - The Web or The Stranger (with Furina as an avatar)
See, this gets complicated because this duo leans in different directions. Focalors herself is more of The Web, masterminding a grandiose plan to deceive Celestia, for which Furina would need to deceive all of Fontaine, spinning a lie for hundreds of years. But the fact that she's specifically an imposter, together with the general theatre and performance theme, brings Furina closer to The Stranger. You could say it's now the fear of "archons, but not quite" instead of "humans, but not quite", hehe.
(For either Fear, I feel like Arlecchino is a good avatar candidate? Jury's still out on how many layers there are to her)
Murata would likely be The Slaughter or possibly The Desolation, and the Tsaritsa could of course be The Web but I have no idea at this point.
Finally, we have another divine being in Teyvat who deserves an Entity of their own. I decided to get a little edgy with it~
SPOILERS FOR MAG 134 AND BEYOND
6. Neuvillette - The Extinction
...or is he?
He could have been, that much is true. He could let the people of Fontaine be eliminated due to "their sin" (at best becoming Oceanid hiveminds and at worst vanishing entirely) and Fontaine itself be destroyed in a catastrophic flood.
Which he did not do - the only thing he wants to eliminate is Celestia.
And Celestia itself is much more realised as The Extinction. It has once laid waste to the world order, replacing the inhabitants with humans, and later, repeated this on a smaller scale, casting down environment-warping Divine Nails and destroying civilizations it deemed full of hubris.
If Neuvillete is Extinction, he only is, for lack of a more elegant way to say it, their personal Extinction.
(Also he just doesn't go with The Vast, he has no vibes of it beyond his element. Even The Eye fits better)
So, here are my thoughts on this AU! Feel fre to add (please do add). I currently have no other avatar ideas in mind other than Childe being very obviously Slaughter-coded.
People who expressed their interest (thank you SO MUCH for enabling me): @hawk-in-a-tree @smokinghotcrow @ninthfeather @paxoculi @thejoespooky

Qué programas o películas has visto recientemente?
(Transl.)
Q: What shows or movies have you watched recently?
I'm currently 2x-ing through Naruto (it helps alleviate the pain of scenes that get repeated wholesale, which I understand as an animation tactic but hate as a watcher), on ep. 10 as of this weekend. Don't have much to say other than I desperately need Sakura to be more than a Sasuke-yelling voice box, though from what I know I may need to turn to fanfiction for that.
I also watched Gundam: Requiem for Vengeance yesterday. The human models look and move like pretty decent PS3 era cutscenes (or really mediocre PS4 ones), but the story's good, and the premise in particular is great. Seeing a Gundam in action from the perspective of the redshirts, seemingly relentlessly pursuing them after each narrow, harrowing escape, is great. It's like Resident Evil's Nemesis, mecha version. Also, the mobile suits look incredible in action. Short watch, too, I recommend it if you have a lazy afternoon handy.
...am I entering my Gundam era? I'm also halfway through Witch from Mercury... (probably not lol the rampant child murder kinda puts me off from it)
I've been watching Transformers Prime and Animated, I'm almost done with the first season of the former and I'm a few episodes into the 2nd season of the latter (I think I like Animated a smidge more, but they're both pretty good!). Also, Transformers One was incredible. I'm still freakin' thinking about it like a month later.
Other than that, not much. I focused on finishing BG3 for a while, there, which I finally accomplished a couple weeks back. I've also been reading a lot more - read through the whole Magnus Chase series, re-read two of the Kane Chronicles novels, and I'm on book 2 of the Pandava Quintent atm. I'm also gonna try to finish my playthrough of Tears of the Kingdom before 2025, which should be doable.

“Blitz and Hearthstone are in love with each other and gay dads, Inge is a lesbian who needs a journey of her own” I say into the mic. The crowd boos.
“No no, she’s right.” someone says behind me. It’s …alex fierro?
“I don’t know who Inge is.” she starts to say. Magnus is clearly confused in the crowd, looking through the curtains at a blushing Blitz and Hearth through the curtain.
“Honestly I don’t remember who half of these people are. Sam I know, sometimes Magnus I guess, and maybe a few select others.” She continues. The crowd is silent. They’re captivated, listening to Alex’s every word.
“but one thing I do know.” She pauses, looking behind stage.
“I honestly thought something homosexual was going on with every single one of you when I first showed up.”
It’s like she’s drank the spit and blood mead. Her words are so true.
“And these two grown men right here-” there are tears in her eyes now, and multiple members of the crowd are crying silently, old women and young men dabbing their eyes with handkerchiefs. “are the most homosexual of all.”
Everyone claps. And cheers. Blitzen and Hearthstone kiss and more excitement ensues.

Blitzstone Headcannons: Holiday Version
Their first Christmas together was insanely awkward. Hearthstone had never experienced a holiday celebration and Blitz celebrated with Bilí, but this was his first time without his father. Hearth is very confused, and Blitz is very sad.
Both Blitz and Hearth grew to be very festive people. They donate to charities if they can, Blitz dresses up as Santa Claus, Hearth poses as a real life elf, and they give discounts at Blitzen's Best.
Hearth is great at avoiding mistletoe. Blitz... less so. He ends up kissing several people on the cheek by the end of the night, much to Hearth's amusement.
Hearth is obsessed with candy canes and peppermints, and their tree is always hung with them. The tree, along with the staircase railings, the checkout counter at Blitzen's Best, the doorway of their apartment, the knobs.
They stash each other's stockings.
Magnus, as an atheist, did not particularly value Christmas, so the holidays were quiet for a short two years.
Hearth is a bigger fan of Christmas than Blitz is. He goes mad, and it drives Blitz up the wall in the best way possible.
Blitz once disliked Christmas. Perhaps as a child, seeing other children together, playing happily. Perhaps seeing other young kids with their mothers, knowing that Freya would not show, as usual. Perhaps as an adult, losing his father, the only true family he'd had left.
After a while, Hearthstone takes Blitz to spend Christmas with Inge and her family. Blitz ends up getting along very well with her and her family, showing them the jewels they can use to adorn their tails, backless shirts so that the fabric is not caught on their hollowed tree backs (as hulder sometimes have). He makes them feel proud to be strange in a world of perfect elves.
Hearth makes cookies. Blitz frosts them elaborately.
