Note
thank you!! feel free to write a longer ananlogy or smth, because i do love reading long posts and getting information that helps me understand other functions better (ur gr8!!)
Thanks! I was going to post the other explanation in the old post, but I’ll do it here instead. I hope this makes sense. It’s been a bit since I’ve tried to explain Ni. OTL
Imagine Ni is a new librarian in charge of shelving and organizing all the non-fiction books that the library buys for its collection. As that the librarian is new, they have yet to memorize the Dewey Decimal System perfectly. Of course, it takes too long to read each book, so they are forced to find different ways to learn what the book is about so they can shelve it. They develop different methods: looking at the title, skimming the table of contents, examining the cover of the book, reading the introduction and/or preface, etc.
Eventually the librarian becomes so good at classifying these books that it becomes muscle memory. They are able to classify at least ten books in under a minute. "This is a book on developmental psychology, number 155. This book is on diet, number 613.2." The better they become, their eyes become trained, not to see the book as an individual book, but a number. They don't care what the book is actually about. Only where it belongs. Because of this, however, if you asked the librarian what the second book they categorized was about, they would not be able to answer you, only tell you where it belongs.
This analogy represents two stages of Ni, that of a young INxJ and an older one.
When an INxJ is young or processing information they've never encountered before, they are like this new librarian. They analyze a situation to see what "number" (category, theme, concept, etc) they can classify their experience under. This takes time for them because with a new experience, they are not used to it. They have to analyze it thoroughly to understand what's going on. And once they come to a conclusion and are able to categorize their experience, they now know how to classify similar experiences in the future.
For an older INxJ, their processing of a situation and/or experience tends to happen a lot faster. They are already skilled at cataloging their experiences under central themes. And because they already experienced similar situations before, this categorization happens faster. For example, they can observe a person. Into their head inputs that the person has anger issues, tends to guilt trip people, defensive, gaslights, and engages in toxic behavior. Output is, "This person had a troubled upbringing or has a mental illness." If someone asked the INxJ why they think this, however, they would not be able to answer quickly. Like the librarian, they subconsciously analyzed the evidence without taking anything in. Their only knowledge is their perception of the event, that the person had a troubled upbringing or has a mental illness.
However to close this, let me stress one more time that Ni is a perceiving function. Like how that librarian's skill at cataloging books became muscle memory, so is Ni for INxJs. We are not aware of what happens within the subconscious. The only thing that comes to our attention is the conclusion.

-) after the relationship ended he texted me that she looks so devastated in her recent instagram post, but actually she’d taken that picture before the relationship had ended and she was currently living her best life
INFJ:
-) Insecure about breathing
-) When one of us (both INFJ) is posting an Insta picture we always text first for about an hour, discussing the right angle, filter, and version of the pic
-) Always dating the biggest assholes and doesn’t realise it even though I’m trying to tell her. Every time. Dated the ENTP and the ESTP
-) You could beat her up and she’d look you in the eyes, crying, telling you it’s not really your fault. She wouldn’t complain to anyone about it.
-) Is like super introverted and hates people but then she attends like really many events because she’s involved in so many projects
ENFJ:
-) Is insecure about being straightforward or asking specific questions
-) Won’t leave my house until’s she’s found my parents and said goodbye to them
-) Has this chill vibe and doesn’t really talk a lot but everyone loves her
-) I’ll not see her for like a year and when we meet up we have the deepest talk and tell each other about literally EVERYthing

Bellarke MBTIs - my opinion
I know this has been done many times by now, but I honestly just disagree with a lot of typings out there, so I thought I’d explain my point of view.
Please remember that this is my point of view only, and I’m always open to constructive criticism.
Bellamy Blake: ESTJ - The Executive
Strengths: dedicated, strong-willed, direct and honest; loyal, patient and reliable; enjoys creating order, excellent organiser.
Weaknesses: inflexible and stubborn, uncomfortable with unconventional situations, judgmental, too focused on social status, difficult to relax, difficult to express emotions
Tumblr media
Bellamy usually seems to be typed as either an ENTJ or an ISTJ, but to me he’s clearly an ESTJ.
Early on in season one he does seem to show some ENTJ traits, but once he starts working with Clarke, and their personalities balance each other, to me he can’t be any other type than an ESTJ.
1. Te - extraverted thinking
This is Bellamy’s primary function, and this is all about logic and effectiveness in any situation where there’s time-pressure. Someone with Te as their dominant function will weigh up all the options they have in the moment and go with the one that makes most sense or has the best probable outcome. Te is also about getting things done instead of thinking over a solution for a long time before actually applying it, which means that actions made based on this function can appear rash and unplanned. This is the basis of how Bellamy acts and this is why he’s the “heart” of the Bellarke duo.
Early on in season 3, when he finds out Clarke’s whereabouts, he makes a quick decision to dress up as an Azgeda warrior and risk his life to go and get her immediately because he doesn’t know when he’s going to get the chance to save her next, and this is the best option he has at the moment. He wants things to be done fast, and done well because he doesn’t like sitting down and thinking out long and elaborate plans (that’s usually Clarke’s job).
Bellamy also doesn’t like hypothesising on things, and he just likes to take things the way they are, even if it seems illogical at the time (e.g. “If anything happens to me-”, “Nothing is happening to you, Clarke”).
Te is what makes him so good at thinking on his feet and making the best of what he’s got. When he finds out Octavia’s taking part in the conclave, he just comes up with a simple plan on how to get her to win, instead of attempting to stop the conclave or finding some other solution (like what Clarke was doing). He takes things for what they are and solves the issues in the way.
ENTJs share this function as their dominant one, which is why I think Bellamy is often mistyped as an ENTJ.
2. Si - introverted sensing
Si, when supported by the dominant Te function tends to make the person seem like they have a very black and white mindset because it makes them focus on things that are important in the moment and push everything else aside. Bellamy does this a lot, he has that “do what we can now and live with the consequences tomorrow” kind of approach (e.g. “Who we are and who we need to be to survive are very different things, Clarke”;  giving a knife to Wells Jaha to make it a “fair fight” between him and Murphy).
Si is all about practicality and straightforwardness, which is why Bellamy can often appear insensitive in stating his opinions and feelings outright (e.g. “You left me, Clarke”; “My life ended the day you were born, Octavia”), and that’s another reason why he’s the “heart”.
3. Ne - extroverted intuition
This is a function that always wants new experiences and enables someone to rely on their past experiences to make decisions about new situations. This is that basis of the whole “Whatever the hell we want” mind set originated, because Bellamy had suffered from the imbalance of power on the Ark his entire life, and so he needed to do something exactly opposite to that. That choice, although it would seem completely extreme to pretty much anyone made sense to him because of how many issues he had with the system on the Ark.
Ne is also why he resents Clarke and Wells so much at the beginning - the only associations he has with them in the past are those of the people in positions of power who executed his mother and basically forced him to keep his little sister under the floor for the first 16 years of her life. To him privilege immediately means someone entitled and hungry for power, and he doesn’t even stop to think that maybe Clarke and Wells are different. He only changes his approach after he’s had new experiences with Clarke and has formed respect for her. He remains of the same opinion of the powerful people on the Ark unless they prove themselves to him, e.g. his suspicion and disrespect for Jaha until the very as opposed to his understanding and respect for Kane.
4. Fi - introverted feeling
This is Bellamy’s weakest function, and it only manifests itself after his thinking process has gone through the first three.
This is why Bellamy only shows strong emotions and is vulnerable when he’s with people he knows he can trust, e.g. Clarke and Octavia.
Fi notably only affects his decision-making when someone with whom he has a strong emotional connection is in danger. He knows that letting Mountain Men drop a missile on TonDC is strategically a good decision (i.e. losing a battle doesn’t mean losing a war), but because his sister is there, he’s completely opposed to it, no matter the fact that it’s the only option they have. Same with pulling that lever in Mount Weather - he talks a few episodes prior to that about coming up with a plan that doesn’t kill every single person in the mountain, but when he sees that his sister is about to be tortured, he helps Clarke pull the lever, no questions asked. “My sister - my responsibility” is very much an Fi thing.
As to season 5 Bellamy, I definitely recognise that he’s changed a lot over the time jump, but I don’t think his typing changed. To me it seems like he became even less in-tune with his Fi function because in season 5 his actions are all cold logic and fact and making the best you can out of every situation. He seems to recognise the effect his actions will have on the feelings of others, but doesn’t let it influence his decision-making process.
Clarke Griffin: ISTJ - The Logistician
Strengths: honest and direct, strong-willed and dutiful, responsible, calm and practical, create and enforce order, jacks-of-all-trades.
Weaknesses: stubborn, insensitive, always by the book, judgmental, tend to unreasonably blame themselves
Tumblr media
Clarke is probably the one character on whose typing there’s most debate. I’ve seen her typed as INTJ, ISFJ, INFJ, etc. but I myself was torn between INTJ and ISTJ. After research and a lot of thinking, I definitely see that she’s an ISTJ.
1. Si - introverted sensing
People with Si as their dominant function are very good at seeing everyone else’s potential and coming up with plans that assign roles in a way that maximises that potential. This is what Clarke always does, it makes sense to her when every person sticks to their role and therefore things get done well. This is also why she often gets irritated with Bellamy, because he tends to just rush into actions without having planned out a good strategy first.
This function is also why Clarke tends to show her love for people in practical ways, like constantly sacrificing herself for them and saving their lives, rather than telling them outright. She very rarely tells Abby that she loves her, but it’s clear she does because of how much she does for her. (Same with Bellamy tbh.)
Clarke is also all about order and rules, Bellamy’s “Whatever the hell we want” mode of governing the 100 leaves her confused and she keeps insisting that they need rules. This is because Si is all about cataloguing things and organising personal experiences in a way that will help her make decisions in future situations, and an anarchy is something she’s never seen before season 1 so she doesn’t know how it can possibly work.
This is one of the reasons why she’s so judgmental of Abby in the first seasons and of Bellamy when he puts the flame in Madi’s head. Whenever she feels like there’s a better way to get things done or like there’s a line that should never be crossed, she’s very slow at forgiving people for failing those expectations. It is only logical arguments that make her see reason, but not emotional attachment to those people.
2. Te - extroverted thinking
This function is all about efficiency and the need to keep moving forward. This is why at the end of season 2, when Lexa and the grounders leave Skaikru high and dry, instead of retreating to think things over and regroup, Clarke immediately comes up with a new plan and basically breaks into the mountain with only a few people supporting her. Because she knows she needs to get things done and her people rescued, and so she picks herself up and moves forward.
The need to be constantly moving forward is also why she never talks about her feelings and never gets her emotional issues resolved. She always feels like there’s not enough time to do that and there’s too many things that need her immediate attention.
3. Fi - introverted feeling
Fi is the greatest cause of pain in Clarke’s life, it is the function that makes her carry this constant guilt with her for years after any incident where she feels she failed someone.
This is also the function that works as her gut instinct as opposed to logical decision-making that is ruled by SiTe. Clarke often knows something is a good decision logically, but hesitates to go through with it because of the emotional issues she has with it, e.g. allowing Mountain Men to drop a missile on TonDC while knowing Octavia is there and that it would hurt her relationship with Bellamy.
This function paired with her drive for constant efficiency and success is what often makes her feel like a failure when things go wrong and makes her unreasonably blame herself.
4. Ne - extroverted intuition
This is the function that makes Clarke want new experiences and think quick on her feet, but because it’s her weakest function, she can rarely rely on it. This is why Bellamy is much better at coming up with solutions for issues he’s never dealt with before, but Clarke can’t do it, she needs past experiences to know what is a good and a bad idea.
A good example is when she has to make a list of the 100 people in season 4, and it takes her a long time to even get to it because it’s nothing she ever encountered before so she doesn’t know where to start. She ends up using a very scientific and brutal approach to it because that’s what makes sense to her logically.
Again, season 5 Clarke is different to how she was before the time jump, but it seems to me that having to take care of Madi and become a parent (again, something she’d never done before and succeeded at) developed her Ne function to the level at which it never worked before that. Because of that, she started to trust her gut a lot more, even in situations where she doesn’t have past experience to rely on. Her feelings of guilt and the need to get things done didn’t go anywhere, it’s just that she doesn’t let those things control her approach to resolving issues as much as before the time jump.
Let me know if you disagree.

✨ you are Ice! (Water/Earth or Water/Fire)
Tagged by: @starkastichotmess
Tagging: Steal it!
Core Strengths: Ice is calm, imaginative, wise, patient, adaptable, observant, artistic, idealistic, rational, practical, dependable, fair-minded, respectful, honest, loyal, and insightful Possible Weaknesses: When immature, Ice might be depressed, pessimistic, passive, indecisive, self-loathing, overly cautious, unsocial, shy, stubborn, bitter, judgmental, callous, excessively serious, or withdrawn from reality.
Ice is cool, calm, collected, logical, and abstract. It combines the calm, serenity, insight, adaptability, and wisdom of Water with the order, consistency, loyalty, and practicality of earth. They are creatures of cold, crystalline beauty – elegant and unapproachable. They are deep, mysterious, and inscrutable – yet they see the rest of the world with astounding clarity. They have a big-picture view of life and tend to be meticulous planners. Ice is also generally a very good judge of character, so long as Ice does not give in to pessimism or cynicism. That is one of Ice’s great internal struggles – the conflict between an intense inner idealism and pessimism about how corrupt the world is. Ice is exceptionally perfectionistic. Ice is also known for its subtly determined nature. Instead of trying to break through barriers, Ice finds another way. When the barrier is weak or if Ice finds just the right angle, it breaks through with the force of a massive iceberg. Yet against stronger or more aggressive forces, Ice adapts, melts, flows around boulders, through piles of debris, over dams, and even through the smallest cracks. When it finds such small opening, it freezes – expanding and cracking the barrier apart. Ice plans everything meticulously in advance and can be seen as opportunistic since it never lets any opportunity go to waste. Ice is very independent and often stubborn, but not aggressive or bossy. Rather than try to force the world to conform to itself, it bends and moves to suit the circumstances, subtly influences the world from the shadows, or else it simply leaves. Ice knows when to withdraw and leave a hopeless organization, pointless debate, or harmful relationship.
Solitude is natural and comfortable for Ice, so it very capable of leaving toxic situations behind and not looking back. This tendency to choose an isolated lifestyle may be in reaction to past hurt or betrayal or it could just as easily stem from being highly introverted. It often views society as a whole as being cruel, stupid, chaotic, or threatening. Ice is very structured, orderly, rational, and logical. They are punctual, organized, detail-oriented, planned, and are excellent at either creating or running vast, complicated systems – whether for business, politics and other practical concerns or for philosophy, religion, science, or other more abstract pursuits. They have both the creativity and wisdom to create as well as the practicality and diligence to administrate. They are strong and stable, honest and loyal, fair-minded and rational, orderly and reliable.
Under stress and pressure that would break anyone else, Ice still stands like an ancient, unconquerable glacier. This ability to think well in both abstract and concrete ways makes Ice a natural planner. Everything in Ice’s life goes to serve The Plan: an extremely complex life-long plan for success that incorporates every foreseeable variable and contingency. Often, Ice begins making The Plan while still a small child and continues to refine it and re-work it across his or her life. Their ability to predict the future is mysterious and can be either inspiring or terrifying depending on whether Ice is a friend or enemy.
Ice generally uses its towering intellect to solve problems, express deep truths, create inventions, or unravel the mysteries of the universe rather than make money or get fame. Fame is of very little interest to Ice. Ice often has a strong creative and artistic streak, loving music, literature, philosophy, and the arts. The Icy person often has a natural and effortless gift at creating pristine, elegant beauty – whether in artwork, abstract systems, or even in the clothes she or he wears.
Yet all of these tremendous strengths do come with weaknesses. Ice is extremely introverted and cautious. If Ice is ever surprised and has no plan at all for the current situation, Ice often freezes up entirely – unable to act. Ice may be adaptable, but improvisation is very difficult. Ice does not like surprises and is often stubborn. Further, Ice is very emotionally withdrawn. While Ice usually has a rich, complex internal world of emotions, Ice is very poor at expressing those emotions to others – and some Icy people may even have difficulty reading the emotions of others. Ice tends to be distant, remote, and very difficult to read - often having a constant poker face or unintentional icy death glare. Even when emotions are expressed, getting the right words out with the right vocal tone is frustrating. This often tends to push away the very people Ice wants most to get close to.
This over-abundance of caution, difficulty improvising, and difficulty expressing emotions are Ice’s three great weaknesses. Yet for anyone who manages to get close enough to Ice to make a real emotional connection, they will find Ice to be very loving, devoted, and absolutely loyal. As a general rule, anyone who earns the love or friendship of Ice will enjoy lifelong, unbreakable commitment and they will get the rare treat of enjoying the warm and compassionate heart at Ice’s core.
Intellectually, Ice seeks understanding and efficiency. Water asks both “why” and “how.” It is holistic and sees everything in the universe as being connected with everything else. Ice is drawn to everything deep, abstract, and complex. It intuitively sees the connections between ideas and between cause and effect. It builds up complex networks of information with each bit connected in its mind with all the other bits that compare and contrast with it. Yet it also has an intense drive to make sense of things. Ice creates order out of chaos, efficiency out of waste, and elegant systems out of aimless wandering. Budgets, long-term plans, engineering, and business management are second nature to Ice. It misses no detail no matter how small and excels at innovation and gradual improvement in general. While everything fascinates Ice, it’s logical, orderly systems that are most interesting. Put together, this makes Ice well-suited for the humanities, sciences, and business – at least in theory. One of Ice’s intellectual weaknesses is its tendency to become lost in its own mind. This can be due to going down rabbit trails on related subjects, getting distracted, or simply getting so absorbed that it never even gets to make the decision in question. The other is making the assumption that all people behave logically. Ice can easily misread a situation by failing to take into account the more emotional and chaotic elements of human nature, often missing subtleties and social cues. However, no element is more intelligent than any other. It is merely a different pattern of thinking. Emotionally, Ice is the most introverted of all the elements or element combinations. Ice has strong feelings and ideals, but has great difficulty expressing them. Due to the fear of an embarrassing emotional outburst, Ice generally suppresses unwelcome emotions like anger, sadness, or fear. Ice may express positive emotions, but even then usually in a controlled way. This can cause negative emotions to build up and churn inside, magnifying them over time. Sadness, fear, and bitterness tend to be especially strong. If not deal with in a healthy way, this can lead either to sudden outbursts releasing days, weeks, or even years of frustration all at once. Ice’s wrath is rare, but terrible - especially if Ice believes the object of its anger deserves it. However, Ice may just internalize their emotions even further, withdrawing into themselves until they begin to view all the world as a hostile, threatening “other.” Sadness, fear, and bitterness are Ice’s negative emotions.
MBTI: INTP is the perfect example – though INTJ and INFJ can work as well. Occasionally, ISTPs may show up as Ice (though they are normally Earth/Air). Functions: Introverted Thinking, Extroverted Intuition, Introverted Intuition, extroverted thinking Enneagram Types: 1, 3, 4, 5, 6, and 9 Platonic Solid: Round (Icosahedron) and Cube (Hexahedron) Aristotelian Environment: Cold (either Wet or Dry) Temperament: Phlegmatic/Melancholic, Melancholic/Choleric, or Phlegmatic/Choleric Cardinal Virtue: Wisdom/Caution (Prudentia) and Self-Control (Temperantia) Yin-Yang: Yin Opposite Element: Lightning – While Ice (Water/Earth) is wise, logical, calculating, self-controlled, dignified, calm, and innovative, Lightning (Fire/Air) is brave, willful, lively, free-spirited, dramatic, and visionary.

Core Strengths: Ice is calm, imaginative, wise, patient, adaptable, observant, artistic, idealistic, rational, practical, dependable, fair-minded, respectful, honest, loyal, and insightful Possible Weaknesses: When immature, Ice might be depressed, pessimistic, passive, indecisive, self-loathing, overly cautious, unsocial, shy, stubborn, bitter, judgmental, callous, excessively serious, or withdrawn from reality.

5 Crucial Differences Between INTPs and INTJs
"1. INTP vs INTJ: Different “Driver” processes
The Driver process can also be called the “dominant cognitive function.” It’s the mind’s first point of contact and the primary lens through which everything gets filtered.
For an INTJ, this dominant process is technically called Introverted Intuition, but we’ve nicknamed it “Perspectives.”
Perspectives is a learning function (technically called a “perceiving function”), and works by watching one’s own mind form patterns. After years of use, eventually Perspectives begins to see the ‘pattern of the patterns’ and understands that what is happening inside of themselves cognitively is also happening for other people.
INTPs, on the other hand, lead with a process called Introverted Thinking, which we call “Accuracy.”
Accuracy is a decision-making function (technically called a “judging function”), and works by creating a framework and then sifting through all the data within that framework, scanning for incongruities and inconsistencies. Its ultimate goal is to find things that make sense to the user, and once clarity is gained then the INTP knows the right course of action to take.
Because both are Thinking types – meaning, they both make decisions based on impersonal, analytical criteria – it’s important to both INTJs and INTPs to be intellectually honest. And while both have this same desired outcome, there’s an important nuance between the relationship each has with data.
Since INTJs are leading with an intuitive process there is more credence given to creative internal thought. They aren’t scanning for content that could be wrong, they’re scanning for new patterns that could be right.
This is why INTJs must pair their Driver process with the Co-Pilot of Extraverted Thinking, or “Effectiveness.” The only way to truly know if those patterns have merit is if they play out in the ‘outer world’. If they work, awesome! That was a great new pattern. If they fail, then it’s back to the internal drawing board.
For an INTP, the outer world isn’t where thoughts are vetted. In fact, INTPs couple their Accuracy with Extraverted Intuition, or what we call “Exploration.” The world outside of themselves is where intriguing new patterns are observed, and it’s up to them to make sense of what those possibilities could mean.
A logically consistent argument is the proof that supports their speculation.
This is why INTPs must be so ruthless with their content and data. The criteria isn’t necessarily provable to an outside observer, and so an internally consistent argument may be the best they’ve got to give credibility to their conclusions.
Think of it in terms of Nikola Tesla (most likely an INTJ) and Albert Einstein (most likely an INTP).
Tesla thought up extraordinary new technologies, but the real test was whether or not those inventions actually worked.
Einstein, the on the other hand, saw patterns in the outside world and mulled over them until he culled from the herd everything but the most internally consistent reasons.
Tesla could point to the invention. Einstein had to point to the math.
This results in two very different relationships with data.
For an INTP, ‘clean’ data is of the utmost importance. Personal biases, what we want to believe, and social attachments to concepts muddy the waters. This is why there’s always some attraction to math, formal logic and/or binary code for an INTP. These are disciplines that tolerate little to no personal interpretation, which is hugely satisfying.
An INTP will unconsciously vet people for when they can and cannot be trusted with data. For example, they may have a good friend who always knows when someone is being fake, but can’t seem to wrap their head around time. When talking to them about motivations and intent the INTP knows they’re a trusted source of information, but they will dismiss that person whenever they talk about how long it will take to get somewhere.
There is such a thing as clean data, one just has to be ever vigilant for it.
For an INTJ, there is no such thing as data separate from the person holding that data. That is to say, our perceptions will always color the information we carry and so data is never clean. This is why an INTJ will frequently counter an inquiry for a piece of data with the question, “Why do you want to know?”
The context changes the content, and so if they don’t know why you want to know they can’t produce the data. (Not that it matters, but this can be maddening to an ENTP. Or, at the very least, to this ENTP. :p)
No matter! It’s not the empirical nature of the data that’s important, it’s the result it produces that’s the important thing. Which is why INTJs unconsciously vet people for their usefulness, not the data they hold (unless that’s how the person is ‘useful’).
Understanding the difference between these two Driver functions is crucial to understanding the difference in types.
2. INTP vs INTJ: Two different intrinsic insecurities generate different strategies
Even when we’ve graduated beyond our insecurities, the fact that they existed at some point influences our early strategies for navigating the world.
It’s been said by some that both INTPs and INTJs can come across arrogant, which I think is a surface understanding of what’s going on with both types (even when they’re at their “I’m going to strangle you now” worst).
As mentioned before, an INTP is constantly scanning for the cleanest data possible because they can’t actually show proof for their conclusions. Accuracy is by definition a subjective criteria: “it makes sense to me.”
Like Authenticity users (as mentioned in the INFP vs INFJ article), if the audience isn’t getting it an INTP can become (in order) confused, frustrated and ultimately cynical. There is always some insecurity about others invalidating their arguments and conclusions, but instead of staying in the realm of hurt (as an INFP may), the easiest solution is to just assume everyone else is an idiot.
Harboring insecurities is just another way for indicating immaturity, and an immature INTP will show up as The Authority On All Subjects, assuming they are right and you are wrong. When an INTP is accused of arrogance, it’s generally because they have a growing pathology toward being right at all times.
Conversely, the more mature an INTP becomes, the more they’re delighted at being proven wrong. That’s the outer world helping them cleanse data they may have grown attached to / become biased toward!
This is generally done through the development of their Co-Pilot process of Exploration, a function that opens frames and actively looks for more information to plug into existing frameworks.
They also become more cheerful as they develop, losing their grip in cynicism and enjoying a naturally egalitarian disposition where anyone at any time could offer interesting perspectives and content.
Of course, that doesn’t mean an INTP won’t still engage in argument and debate. Iron sharpens iron, after all, and debate is anything but personal.
For an INTJ, there is little to no insecurity about being right. If you don’t agree with them they might debate with you about it, but they understand that perception defines reality and you may just be seeing things fundamentally differently.
Ultimately, the proof is in Effectiveness, and you’ll see how wrong you are when the outer world plays it all out.
The insecurity an INTJ faces is more of a well guarded secret. INTJs are surprisingly sensitive, and as mentioned in our article about the INTJ personality type, anyone they let in can do real damage.
The insecurity lies in just how amazingly vulnerable they are to others. For a hardcore Thinker, it’s incredibly disconcerting for the INTJ to realize they are wired to be sensitive without the benefit of commensurate (natural) emotional intelligence.
The arrogant front an INTJ puts up isn’t to deflect being proven wrong, it’s to deflect against the hurt and pain another person potentially represents. It’s a true wall, an impenetrable domain around the inner sanctum that you may or may not ever be invited into.
The more insecure and immature the INTJ is, the thicker and more impenetrable the wall.
Conversely, the more mature an INTJ the more they understand that their personal happiness is directly linked to their willingness to be vulnerable. They may still be protective, but they don’t close themselves off universally. The INTJ builds healthy boundaries which allow special people in, who are the lucky recipients of their extraordinary understanding.
If you’re trying to determine your type between INTP and INTJ ask yourself: are you more put-off by being wrong, or by being vulnerable?
3. INTP vs INTJ: How emotions show up
No matter what your type and no matter how much of a “Thinker” you are, you have emotions and feelings. Being a Thinker means you use impersonal criteria to evaluate situations, which generally results in putting emotions as a lower priority. But they still exist.
When you look at the car model for each of these types (or, for Myers-Briggs geeks, when you look at the cognitive function stack) you’ll notice that the INTJ type has a more conscious relationship with their emotional side, whereas an INTP’s emotional awareness is more unconscious and a blind spot.
Not only are the Feeling processes in different positions in the car, they are also different expressions. For an INTJ it’s Introverted Feeling, or Authenticity, and for the INTP it’s ExtravertedFeeling, or Harmony.
Authenticity (at its core) is about understanding the emotional impact something has on you as an individual, and what’s in alignment for you as a person. It’s quiet, reflective and introspective. In fact, I’ve heard it described by Harmony types as “numbed out,” a misunderstanding of how the process works but an apt illustration of how inwardly turned the process appears from the outside.
Harmony (at its core) is about the emotional impact something has on others, aka the group, and checks in with social truths (like how we should behave and what people’s reputations are). It’s also outwardly expressive and emotive.
INTJs have a more conscious relationship with their Feeling process, which is in part why they’re sensitive. They’re often very aware of how things are impacting them emotionally, though they don’t always know what to do about it.
INTPs, on the other hand, have a very unconscious relationship with their Feeling process and a much higher threshold for tuning it out. Once it gets triggered, though, it’s anything but quiet.
When we go to our 3 Yr Old process (also known as our ‘inferior’) it’s generally in times of deep stress. (We can develop strategies to give our 3 Yr Old some attention to prevent it from controlling us, but most people only figure this out over time and through the concept of “failing better.”)
This is called Being in the Grip, and it’s never a pretty sight. For a generally rational and straight-faced INTP this can look like a full on temper tantrum. Uncontrollable crying isn’t just a possibility, it’s a probability. And the INTP – having no clue what the hell is happening to them – is swept up in the ride.
(When an INTJ is In the Grip it shows up as childlike self-indulgence – too much food, alcohol, sex and/or any other favorite expression of sensory pleasure.)
An INTJ will rarely temper tantrum. They’re more likely to get prideful as a first line of defense, and then move on to sulky and mopey. They may get angry, though this will generally be a controlled internalized version of the emotion. When an INTP gets angry, it’s more like a powder keg of explosion.
Understanding each type’s relationship with their Feeling process isn’t just a great tie breaker when profiling yourself or others, it’s also an important way to hold space for a loved one who may be one of these two types.
4. INTP vs INTJ: Hygiene, organization and status
When one has a purely theoretical understanding of Myers-Briggs it’s easy to rely on things like, “Oh, the INTJ is a Judger, so they’ll be organized and the INTP will be messy.”
If only people would just closely follow stereotypes we could lock this thing down and all go home.
Unfortunately, it’s not so simple.
As mentioned before, the INTJ is leading with Introverted Intuition (Perspectives) which is technically a ‘perceiving’ process. That means their flow state is learning and thinking creative thoughts.
Organizing their outer world is absolutely preferential as the more organized things are the more they can mitigate distractions and stay Perspectiving, so to speak.
But that means getting out of Perspectives to go organize, and sometimes that’s about as unappealing as an idea gets.
They also couple Perspectives with Effectiveness, a process that naturally thinks in terms of delegation. I’ve known INTJs that wished someone would just come along and organize their space for them, but until that happened they were merely going to shut off sensory awareness and not acknowledge the disaster around them.
When an INTJ exercises the Effectiveness process this is less likely to be the case, but even then ‘cleaning and organizing’ has to be considered a high leverage activity. Which it may or may not be.
Generally the biggest give-away between an INTJ and INTP (when taking into consideration that one is a J and the other is a P) is in personal grooming.
An INTP – having Harmony as their 3 Yr Old process – has an exceptionally easy time of just not giving a rat’s ass about how they appear to others. Actually, more accurately, they don’t give a rat’s ass if they’re socially acceptable. They may care how they come across, but that’s generally to send a message of not caring.
For the INTP, status is a game other people play, and dressing up just to suit others almost feels icky.
For an INTJ, on the other hand, status is a resource. And resource is always on the radar of Effectiveness. Playing a status game doesn’t feel icky, it feels like a necessary part of life. And it’s not so much that they dress for high status, but that they understand just a little effort goes a long way.
Unless they’ve given up, and then they turn into the Comic Book Guy on The Simpsons. When an INTJ devolves they start looking more like an immature INTP.
Alternatively, when an INTP matures they stop seeing hygiene and personal grooming as “being under the thumb of society” and more as a way to connect with other people. They dress for leverage, or self-expression, or a number of other perfectly acceptable reasons to attend to their appearance.
5. INTP vs INTJ: Why we need them both
I’ve found INTJs to exhibit amazing intellectual integrity. I’ve found INTPs to exhibit extraordinary radical honesty.
For a society to exist well we need to have people who won’t bullshit themselves and won’t bullshit you. We need creative thinkers that question the status quo, implement new technologies that improve our lives while at the same time whistle-blowing and calling out that the emperor is, indeed, naked as the day he was born.
When an INTJ develops into the best version of themselves they are the walking think tanks of sustainable systems.
When an INTP develops into the best version of themselves they are the innovators of new paradigms, literally altering how we understand and see reality.
Both types are imperative, and if you are either type please understand how important you are. Develop into the best version of yourself by exercising your Co-Pilot process of either Exploration (INTP) or Effectiveness (INTJ).
And hug yourself for me. Cause I’m a fan.

Your Romantic 'Type' Based on Your Myers-Briggs Personality Type
Tumblr media

What’s the best part about love and relationships? That’s a seriously tough call. But the beautiful thing is, absolutely everyone is drawn to something different; which means there’s a match out there for every person.
Most of us have at least a vague “type,” uniquely tailored to our individual personalities and what we value in relationships. If you haven’t determined what the common thread is among your exes and crushes, it’s highly possibly that your Myers-Briggs personality type can help determine that for you. For a quick refresher, your Myers-Briggs Type Indicator (MBTI) is an assessment that is meant to break down your psychological preferences and how you make decisions. It tells you your penchant for Extraversion or Introversion (E or I); Sensing or Intuition (S or N); Thinking of Feeling (T or F); and Judging or Perceiving (J or P). If you don’t know your MBTI you can take the test here. If you do know your MBTI then find yours below, and discover the type of partner with whom you should be spending your life.
ENTJ Your type: As the “ruthless commander” of the MBTI, ENTJs know exactly what they’re looking for in terms of raw partner criteria. Your match must be highly intelligent, competent, individualistic, and loyal. They also have to enjoy the finer tastes in life, and be able to work a room with relative ease. If a person you spot has all of those qualities, you tend to believe you can make a relationship happen by sheer force of will.
Don’t forget: Listen to your feelings, even though you’d rather make decisions with your head; emotions tell us when relationships are right and wrong. Love isn’t always as logical as you make it out to be.
INTJ Your type: The mysterious and smart type, INTJs are looking for someone who shares a thirst for knowledge and theoretical conversations. Since you’re engrossed in your work for long stretches of time, you’re attracted to independence and self-sufficiency. You date with an eye toward the future, meaning you won’t enter a relationship unless you can see it working out long-term, so having compatible values and interests is a must.
Don’t forget: You gotta try things out sometimes. All your theories might work in your head, but fail to pan out IRL. The unexpected choice may work better than you realize, and show you hidden sides over time.
INFJ Your type: INFJs are notoriously picky, mostly because they know exactly what they want: Someone who makes them feel seen, heard, and emotionally safe. This sounds simple on the surface, but it isn’t for you. Not only are you a brilliant, deep, and complex person, but you regularly feel like others don’t “get” you the way that you get them.
Don’t forget: Your ultimate goal in a relationship is to feel appreciated and understood. Since you’re not always in tune with exactly how you’re feeling on an emotional level, let your intuition be your guide.
INFP Your type: INFPs lead with their feelings first, and have extremely specific tastes: You love people who are authentic and novel, who aren’t afraid to follow their dreams or travel to remote locations at the drop of a hat. You’re also highly sensitive, and need someone who won’t break your spirit or abuse your kindness.
Don’t forget: You tend to romanticize and idealize partners. Make sure you aren’t projecting qualities and narratives onto a prospective partner, just because you want it to work. Check them out, warts and all, so you can really determine compatibility.
ENFP Your type: ENFPs are social butterflies who pride themselves on their uniqueness and charm. You also aren’t afraid to spend time cracking open the toughest nuts, which is why you love prospects that present as mysterious and brooding. You need to be constantly intrigued, and are drawn to people who reveal flashes of hidden depth behind a controlled surface.
Don’t forget: Sometimes, you imagine mysterious prospects might be incredible (compatible! fascinating!) creatures, but they aren’t actually “all that.” Interesting partners, who you can take at face value, might be a better match long-term.
ENFJ Your type: ENFJs tend to like dreamy, romantic types, because they think relationships and people make the world go ‘round. You also know you’re an amazing partner for the right person. Sometimes, you can be drawn to those flawed, diamond-in-the-rough types, because you recognize the potential in so many people. You’re incredibly accommodating and have the vision to see what you could be together.
Don’t forget: A relationship is a two-way street. While you’re busy caring and working on the relationship, remember to open up about your unmet needs. There’s also only so much you can “fix” before you’re simply not compatible — or before you’ll break down emotionally.
ENTP Your type: The term “heartbreaker” was basically invented for ENTPs. You’re drawn to the quiet, soft-hearted ones, who might seem like the most impossibly shy challenges at first — but your charm can usually break down their walls. Unfortunately, immature ENTPs go for anyone who intrigues them, but exit as soon as they get bored.
Don’t forget: You fall often, just not hard, so slow your roll and seek deeper connection. Lasting desire, based on real compatibility, will grow over weeks and months. Try waiting before launching into your typical chase — if your ultimate goal is to find that one person who endlessly intrigues you with smarts and substance.
INTP Your type: INTPs are often drawn to types who they see as intellectual equals and true partners. You hate drama, and don’t typically go for anyone who’s overly emotional or “creates problems” instead of solves them. You love someone who’s interesting, well-rounded, independent, and shares your offbeat sense of humor.
Don’t forget: Feelings do matter. Although your best match is probably someone with whom you can explore and debate, few people have skin as thick (or as logical) as yours.
ISTJ Your type: ISTJs are not flashy, and their type typically isn’t either. You tend to err on the traditional side, so shared values are a must. You’re often found with the wholesome, good-hearted and even-keeled ones, who also have an eye toward long-term commitment. (Anything else would not make sense to you!)
Don’t forget: You can’t always judge a book by its cover. You can often pigeon-hole someone too quickly in an attempt to filter efficiently, but you might have it all wrong. At least wait a few dates before you make a final call.
ESTJ Your type: ESTJs are hard-working, ambitious, goal-oriented types, so their romantic type is sort of an escape from the typical mayhem of their everyday life (career included). You’re likely most drawn to those who help you detach and unwind, through shared interests or a hidden thirst for adventures.
Don’t forget: You need someone who’s more apt to go with the flow than take the lead, but who will also stand up to you when it counts. Yes, you like to be in charge — but you need a partner whose opinion you completely trust and respect, not a pushover.
ESTP Your type: ESTPs are the ultra-bright flames, and all suitors are simply moths. While you probably like to flirt and charm just about anyone, the one you really notice is usually just slightly out of reach and very hard to get. There’s nothing more attractive to you than the seemingly unobtainable.
Don’t forget: While the chase might be fun, you’ll get bored with a hard-to-get person if you have nothing in common when you finally lock it down. Make sure that, as you’re winning over that prospect, you’re determining if you’re actually compatible along the way.
ISTP Your type: The laid-back renegades of the MBTI, ISTPs aren’t going to be nailed down often. If someone does catch your eye, that’s likely because they’re crazy-independent, able to go with the flow, and like to do the same activities. Your guy or gal is likely someone who would be totally down for a spontaneous trip to Europe, or a two-week ski vacation.
Don’t forget: Relationships aren’t always stressful commitments, so don’t be afraid to give it a shot if you find someone with whom you have a lot in common. You tend to loathe anything that will tie you down, but the right relationship (for you) won’t feel that way.
ISFJ Your type: Love and lust might be thrill rides for some, but ISFJs tend to value tenets of relationship stability like trust, honesty, respect, and open communication. In terms of your “type,” you’re a romantic to the core, but really want to be pursued by someone bold. You’re just a little too shy to share your feelings first.
Don’t forget: Although you typically know what you feel and are wired toward commitment, most others don’t get there as quickly. Enjoy the ride of dating; it’s fun, too!
ISFP Your type: Artistic and free-flowing, ISFPs have big hearts and creative minds — and you love when someone actually notices all the joy you bring to the table. Love is a crazy, unpredictable adventure, and you’re not afraid to dive in head-first. As long as a potential partner is not too controlling and appreciates your reserved side, you could gladly fall in love forever.
Don’t forget: You’re sensitive, but can be a bit passive when it comes to your relationships, often bottling up feelings instead of voicing them. Stand up for yourself and your thoughts. If you can’t, you’re not with the right person.
ESFP Your type: ESFPs are fairly obsessed with enjoying life and live almost entirely in the moment, so you’re looking for someone who’s always down for a good time. (Stick-in-the-muds and serious types need not apply!) You want someone with whom you can laugh about memes and funny stories, who will also let you keep your options open. Why plan for tomorrow when you can live well right now?
Don’t forget: You can be stubborn and dig in your heels if you feel like someone is trying to rein you in. Remember, sometimes balance is good — and you really do need a romantic partner who reminds you when to be serious (you know, occasionally).
ESFJ Your type: If there was ever a personality tailor-made for nurturing with an enthusiastic spirit, it was ESFJ. Ultimately, you just want someone to respect your caring side and really appreciate the awesome qualities you bring to the table — whether that’s mastering a new cake recipe or organizing the best charity event ever. You’re really not that complicated!
Don’t forget: You tend to put others first, and that can also be true when you’re dating and building relationships. You can get so set on a goal (often: a relationship) that you forget to see if you’re truly compatible, or if the person is treating you well. Occasionally, take a step back, be a bit more objective to see if things are really working.

@emeraldlatias I’m Replying to you here so i don’t make a HUGE wall of text when reblogging my ask...
Thanks for the input! This was an interesting read, but tbh I still would argue with most of your typings.
For Squall, I still find him a heavy Ni user, just cause he doesn’t apparently plan ahead it doesn’t mean he’s not an NJ (this feels like bad use of Te), he’s merely a teenager really close to enter adulthood and is struggling with the same problems just like everyone that age, he is cold, arrogant, pushes everyone away from him, this is very typical immature INTJ behaviour, thinking he can do everything by himself, being detached, and almost living completely in his head. His inner monologues feel Very Ni-Fi also, and he doesn’t have much concern for duty, responsibility and being of help to a community, he was always difficult to work with, and resented assuming leadership, even though he is the first to ensure that what is necessary gets done (all sounds very Ni-Te, capable of carrying out duties but resents it). He is capable and assumes responsibility, but in a very forceful manner, he even dislikes it when he is appointed commander of Balamb Garden, and also when ppl start giving him orders he becomes frustrated as well (this is near opposite of Si, and tertiary Fi acting up taking things too personally), he’s very anti-social. Overall he is heavily independent (a very big INTJ trait) and I simply don’t see inferior Ne in him at all, a Si-dom would do their utmost to reject Ne in order to protect their ego-image as a “careful, reliable, and thoughtful” person, and this isn’t what Squall does at all.
For Rinoa, this one I could agree with you, she is definitely a EXFJ and the inferior Ti is clear, but to me she felt more Ni-Se, rather than Si-Ne. Like Squall she is another struggling teenager, she is very stubborn, naive, often does what she wants and acts in a rebellious manner (particularly towards her father) and she is quite impulsive, acting without thinking and often getting in trouble (this feels like Se acting up, ignoring Ni and inferior Ti manifesting itself). A function like Si is not impulsive nor is Ne (in a big way) when tertiary or inferior, Rinoa gets often too caught up in the moment (rather than in the past) which even makes her look like a xxxP type, but this is ENFJ’s Se acting up (whom are sometimes even confused with ESFPs). Like u said, she’s an ideas person, u can even see her in the Balamb Garden library (reading books?) when she’s not with the party, but i still find it she has Ni, rather than Si. Ni itself is about seeing future outcomes, and planning based on those visions would come with Fe/Te, but since she has Fe she does not plan with facts or logic, but rather the emotions of others, values, ethics etc… this in exchange shows her poor Ti and how she failed to carry out plans correctly (like in the Train with the president). She could easily be an ENFJ just like ESFJ, not really far off the mark.
Laguna… this is one I can also agree with being ENFP cause I debated him being ENFP too. What made me decide go for ESFJ however was how much he felt like a Fe-dom user, he felt slightly like Rinoa and could have gone for ENFJ too but that didn’t seem right, it felt like he had the Si&Ne pair instead. He feels like a direct opposite of Squall, (having INTJ and ESFJ in mind, they don’t share any common functions and do everything differently). Unlike the rest of the cast he is older, 22 in flashbacks and 44 in the main story, so he is gonna have a more balanced functional stack there and looks like a mature ESFJ. In the flashbacks he is awful at following up to plans requiring external consideration of facts, logic and reason (much like Rinoa, another Ti inferior user), he thinks he is going well with his course of action but then he realises he is mistaken and clueless as to what to do (much to the frustration of his comrades) however he thinks about others and finds his way to get out of those situations, has this big concern for external harmony so I couldn’t help but Type ESFJ. His style of combat also feels like relying on past experience heavily, i didn’t feel like he was Si inferior but I can see why you type him as and ENFP and can agree with that too.
Quistis: Classic overachiever could very well relate to INFJ, specially to reaffirm that she is smart (Ni). Ni does not mean intelligence, but it does bring a degree of “know it all” confidence to assert themselves quietly (in the case of an INFJ). We can agree she uses secondary Fe and tertiary Ti, however Se seems more befitting as inferior, she is not impulsive at all and has a very stoic, composed aura (ISFJs would a appear more warm, accommodating and serene). Ne inferior would make the Si-dom not apt to radical or risky thought/behavior, but this isn’t a problem for Quists (cause she has Ni). She does not go wild, but she can think differently (plus she is not stuck on the past, more like on ideas and the feelings she has about others). Also I don’t see how doubting self-worth/talent and seeking out others to listen is a Si-Fe and Inferior Ne trait, this is something all types can experience and is not particular to ISFJ behaviour. As for what happened in Deling City, she was stressed and conflicted to act efficiently, this a mistake a normal INFJ could make cause they value external harmony a lot, Ti acting up blocking the insight of Ni can make the INFJ make this mistake. You seem to be very biased with Ni-users thinking they are very strict planners who follow up through their plans no matter what but the rest of the functions can bring information Ni hasn’t taken and make them doubt themselves/ act in irrational ways / change their course of action abruptly. Ni gives you visions and insights, and the functions that build the plans using this information is Te and Fe, not Ni.
Seifer being ESFP is the one i have most conflict with (even ESTP would have been more accurate), his bullying tendencies seem to manifest from inferior Fi, he is the typical Te-dom bully who’s very conflicted internally and takes out his anger on others to compensate. He is rude and has been picking on other kids since young (ESFPs bully others if they are getting in the way of their fun, Seifer however does not seem worried about this at all). He also has many parallels with Squall being both TJs, saying he is ESFP contrasts a lot with him, and both are fighting to prove their superiority. The only Se I would see in him is how impulsive he can get, defies authority figures and considers that others should defer to taking orders from him, but again this is Te and inferior Fi acting up, he loves being boss and having others do what he wants. Also Being unable to let go of the Romantic Dream™  is inferior Fi and Te acting up, he has extreme loyalty to Edea and his actions feel very Si paired with Te. Plus he is the head of the disciplinary committee, this screams Te, he is responsible and has no trouble performing tasks (unless he is internal conflicts start acting up).
Overall I wasn’t really off the mark with my typings (it was mostly Ni-Si differences) and Selphie and maybe Laguna are the only ones I can see being mistyped but not the rest. But tbh I can accept everyone has different perceptions on each character’s type and I find it difficult for everyone to agree with them so lmao, If you have more to say i’ll gladly listen! It’s fun discussing type theory, but i’ll leave my typings the way they are lmao.

You are Ice! (Water/Earth or Water/Fire)
