I usually don't address this kind of stuff, but this is my fiftieth log! It's a big number so I thought it would be appropriate to address it, that's all, but let's get with the actual log now.

Yesterday, I did a delivery for some workers in my area and I hurt my ankle, it's not really something that needs to be treated by a professional or something, but it does hurt when I walk, and I've been in bed since, so I've taken this opportunity to do a little trip around the internet with my Digimon, something I haven't done since I really prefer exploring how the Digital World interacts with every nook of the real world, and not just our internet, but that's besides the point. I got my Digimon to do a little exploration of internet websites so I could have a peek at what the internet has been up to since the last time I did this, which, aside from the Mephismon X incident, was a loooong time ago, back when MegaloGrowmon was a Guilmon from what I can recall, anyways, everyone explored around a few pages that catched their interest, Canoweissmon, Siriusmon and Arcturusmon saw an astronomy related page, (this guys really like stars) Meanwhile Spinomon, Cannondramon and MegaloGrowmon were playing around a dinosaur theme park's webpage, I, however, had my eye on Kuzuhamon, Helloogarmon and Stiffilmon, who were hanging around my history to find out A Cult's Website, you see, I really like to research about cultist psychology, for no particular reason aside from the fact that I don't like predatory psychological tactics and this kind of organizations use, since a lot of people in my life could be a target to this kind of cults, but I'm going on a tangent here.

I'm guessing Kuzuhamon and Helloogarmon were attracted due to the supernatural element tied to their data and Stiffilmon was there because she really likes being near Helloogarmon, they're like a "mini" version of the not-anymore-Gammamon brothers, but, yet again, tangent, during their little exploration they ended up entering the page, and after they did that, my already deficient PC started working even worse, I initially thought it was because of the amount of Digimon I had working simultaneously, but that couldn't be it because I asked them to show in the simplest form a Digimon can adopt, a 16x16 sprite, so I had to actively check what it was, and it appears that the cult's website was to the top with Spirals. For those who don't know what Spirals are, they're a Digital Life Form (a digital being not complex enough/too complex to be considered a digimon) that was created thanks to the rifts of data that flows from the Digital World, a while ago, around 2019, the Spirals were an actual problem, however, since then a group of Tamers in Japan managed to control them, so they're more like a plague nowadays, see them as those asian hornets that were a worry about 4 years ago, they used to be feared even, but now there's plenty of ways to get rid of them, any good antivirus software should do the trick, however, some still wander around the internet since they're not allowed at the Digital World either, so they tend to hide inside unpopular websites, or some crazy people use them to infect your PC with a ton of useless data when you enter their websites. This time, it appears that they were placed on the cult's page on purpose, probably as a cheap way to store the log-in data of the members, since Spirals have a thing for Self-actualization, a thing where they basically inject random data into themselves so they can look like Digimon, anyways, seeing this vermin on my PC is the digital equivalent of having a small roach infestation in only one part of your house, so I decided to get rid of them, but it got out of hand real quick.

I asked Helloogarmon to simply burn them, however, there were way more Spirals than I expected, meaning that this cult has either an enormous amount of followers or very dedicated few ones, I quickly had to call Canoweissmon since just the heat emanating from the charge he does for the Gran Nova would be more than enough to burn them into oblivion, but this things were coming in FLOODS, much like the BEMmon that attacked us that one time at the station used to, I asked both Canoweissmon and Helloogarmon to attack together, but Stiffilmon decided to get involved too, so I might as well just got everyone there, it wasn't a particularly difficult fight, but we got rid of (I Believe) every single one of them thanks to an Atomic Blasters and Breaquasar combo. Does this harm the cult's site? Yes, on a very "small" scale, but yes, they'll have to collect that log in information again, so everyone who forgot their password will have a bad time accessing the page now, but seeing that they have predatory meanings I hold no regrets for this, anyways! In other news I finally got info on where my next tournament fight will take place, it will be this coming Thursday!, so stay tuned for another exiting narration of the next duel. Oh and regarding the DigiTama I basically stole from the police, it hasn't hatched yet, it's basically frozen, so I might have to analyze that thing, but whatever the case is, I'll keep you updated!.

So... Through the course of the movie, we see how the different characters are trying to reason with the task at hand.

Should they defeat the enemy and cause the bonds of humans and Digimon to break?

When I had first watched this scene, my heart was torn into two different sides. On one hand, I was proud to see Takeru be the one to bring up the idea that fighting may not be the right choice. This is Takeru we are talking about - the Takeru who had witnessed his own partner die after defeating Devimon, who had to part ways with him several times afterwards, once after the events of Adventure, then again between 02 and Tri... And also when Patamon got infected and lost all his memories. Last but not least... And this is where I was torn, because I wished, oh HOW I had wished, that he had brought up Yamato at this point. His brother, who had lost his partner merely one and a half years ago... And who had been just as hesitant to fight as him...

Not only that... But the way Hikari is responding, prioritizing the needs of others - a huge number of people to be exact - over her own, is not only very in-character for her... It also mirrors her brother's reaction from one and a half years ago. The only difference being that we're talking about much bigger scales now. The Yagami siblings always understood the need to fight, even if they personally didn't like it...

It's a bittersweet parallel between the siblings and yet... If you know me, you also know how hurt I was by the fact that neither Yamato nor Taichi nor any other of the older Chosen Children had been brought up in this context. Sure, Takeru and Hikari had been drinking over talking about how they had not been available before, but it's just all so heartbreaking. Especially because Hikari and Daisuke in particular make it all sound so easy. "If we choose our bond, our friendship, if we believe in it, it will not vanish" just invalidates a lot of the pain that Taichi and Yamato went through in the last movie. And while I am all for a positive outlook, it still hurts not to know what the heck is going on with the others and how they experienced all of this. It makes sense for someone like Hikari, who has witnessed the loss her brother had to endure, wanting to move on, not intending to let the same happen to herself and the others, but it just feels grim without the contextualization of Kizuna's events. I believe it would not have been as bad if Taichi and Yamato had been mentioned at least once - I understand that this was probably to avoid the idea that people would have needed to watch Kizuna before watching this movie, but still.

The Canonicity of the Digimon Wonderswan Games

I am right now a bit back into my old Digimon hyperfixation I am afraid. So let me nerd out a bit more about it, or in this case rant about another thing.

See, I am in a bit of a weird position in regards of this fandom. I am from Germany, where we got the dub names and stuff, but the Japanese cut of the anime. But also, I switched to watching the sub already by the time Digimon Tamers was starting to air in Japan, and had fairly easy access to most of the Japanese media for the franchise through the magic of the internet.

As such I grew up with the Japanese stuff for Digimon in the most part. Including the Wonderswan games, that are kinda legendary in the west. And man, let me tell you: I love those games. They are not really good games, I would argue. Like the game mechanics are just not very polished, and like in a lot of Japanese games at the time you needed to grind quite a lot. But I loved the story and the way it was portrayed. And I adore the game version of Ryou. He is my cute baby boy, who needs a serious hug.

However... Something that I have already been annoyed with was the fact that a lot of western fandom has always seen these games as canon. And I kinda get why - at least in regards to Adventure/02 - given that Ryou gets referenced in the canon a lot. It is canon that Ryou exists in this universe, as well as Millenniumon. And it is canon that Ken and Ryou travelled through the digital world. However... The game as it is, is in fact not canon and never was meant to be. This is because games very much contradict several aspects of the primary canon (the show). Let us go through those things, okay?

Anode/Cathode Tamer

This game takes place on New Years Eve 1999, so about 4 (or really 5) months after Digimon Adventure. Millenniumon, a Digimon that has been formed when the data of the defeated Machinedramon fused with a Chimeramon, messed up the digital world and brought back the villains the Chosen Children had already defeated. Being brought back, they kidnap the Chosen children. Agumon turns to a human child - Ryou Akiyama - as he needs a human to evolve. So, Ryou on his own has to fight through the villains of Digimon Adventure to free the chosen children. He is not a Chosen Child himself, though, being made to borrow Taichi's Digivice.

Now, this game is clearly not canon - the villains being brought back is never mentioned again, and it is explicitly said that spring 2000 was the first time that the Chosen Children returned back to the Digital World after their original adventure.

Other than that... I kinda love how vile the villains are in this game. I really adore it. But yeah, definitely not canon.

Tag Tamers

Tag Tamers starts during the events of the second movie. Diaboromon is defeated and just as this happens, Ryou and Ken get contacted by V-mon and Piccolomon. Millenniumon is back, and it is up to Ryou to defeat it. This time he has to partner up with V-mon, who is already destined to be Daisuke's partner. So Ryou and Ken go visit the digital world together - only to find out, that it was all a trap set up by Millenniumon to lure Ryou back.

This game at once is the one most directly referenced in the Show (with Ken's flashback to getting infected with the Dark Spore) and also the more most directly contradicted by the show. Because while the game takes place in March 2000, the series explicitly names the time of Ken and hence Ryou travelling to the digital world as August 2000, exactly a year post-Adventure. More interestingly we do not see any partner with Ryou in the flashback either, and it is pretty clear that if V-mon ever met Ken or Ryou before, he does most certainly not remember.

It should also be noted that in this game Ken and Ryou both get D-3 Digivices, while in the primary canon Ken obviously received a normal Digivice at this point, that only later turned into the D-3 at the Dark Ocean.

D-1 Tamers

D-1 Tamers takes place not too long after Tag Tamers. While watching over Ken, who is sick from the Dark Spore, Ryou finds an online quiz about Digimon and upon answering it gets once more summoned to the Digital World. Here, he is made to participate in the D-1 Tournament against other Children and their Digimon partners, including both characters from the anime and some original characters. However, soon enough it turns out, that the tournament was just something created by the Holy Beasts to train Ryou up to once more fight against Millenniumon.

Basically, the same from before applies. The kids in this game all have D-3 Digivices, that did not yet exist in this universe. Nowhere in canon is it ever mentioned that Taichi and Co. have travelled back to the Digital World at this point - and mind you, the entire thing with the Holy Beasts also does not make a whole lot of sense considering the canon of the show (with the Holy Beasts just being brought back).

As someone who tends to latch onto minor characters very easily, I loved the original characters in this game, even though they have very few lines.

Mind you, if you have been in Digimon fandom spaces for a longer time, you might have come across the picture underneath before and thought to yourself: "Oh, this looks official." However... It is actually Fanart. To be exact this picture seems to originate with a fan-book on the games called Digimon Crusader. (I have been trying to get my hands on that one before. But I have only seen it two times up for auction and never could get manage to set up a proxy in time - as the sellers were never shipping to Europe.)

Brave Tamer

Lastly there is Brave Tamer, a game that is rather hard to describe, because it involves a ton of time travel. Hurray, because this plot was not already convoluted enough. lol

Basically, it starts with Ryou at the very beginning of the Digital World, meeting Monodramon and then timehopping a whole lot to help both the Chosen Children and Tamers (who also show up here, because the game released by the time Tamers was out), and also get some closure. Please note, at this point in time the digital world has fucked up Ryou's mental health for good. lol

The game ends with Monodramon forcing a fusion between himself and Millenniumon, defeating the villain like this and leaving Ryou out of time with a single Digitama.

The plot of this game, due to the time travel, is a whole mess. I adore the game for the worldbuilding it does for the Adventure digital world, even though this, too, is doubtful in terms of canonicity. There is no real harm to take this as canon for the Adventure-world, though obviously the show itself contradicts this in terms of canon for the Tamers-world.

The crossover stuff between Tamers and Adventure verse is also very confusing to say the least. But yeah, given that none of the interactions here ever get referenced anywhere: This is also very certainly not canon. (Also, for some reason Ryou aged 2 years between D-1 Tamers and Brave Tamer, even though Brave Tamer starts up very shortly after D-1 Tamers ends.)

So, what is canon?

All of this might leave you wondering: What is canon for Ryou? Well, it is kinda hard to say. What we can assume is something like this:

In the universe of Digimon Adventure there is or was a boy named Akiyama Ryou. We do not know a whole lot about him, but based on his design he was probably 10 or 11 years old in August of 2000. When Ken first got called into the Digital World, he met Ryou there, and the two of them defeated Millenniumon, getting Ken infected with the Dark Spore. We do not know what happened to Ryou after this, but it seems unlikely that he and Ken stayed in contact, given Ken never brings him up. It is not impossible that he has died, though this is never confirmed, or contradicted by the canon.

In the universe of Digimon Tamers, there also exists a boy named Akiyama Ryou. Other than the boy from the games, he is not from Tokyo, but from a fishing village near Kitakyushu. We do not know whether he has a mother, but he has a father, as well as an uncle who lives in Tokyo. Whenever Ryou participated in the Digimon tournaments, he stayed with his uncle, apparently. In December 2000, Ryou meets Cyberdramon in Tokyo, and realized that Cyberdramon cannot stay in the real world because it is too aggressive. So he decides to travel to the Digital World together with it. Now, technically you can argue whether Cyberdramon is the Digimon resulting from the fusion of Monodramon and Millenniumon, but Ryou is very much a different character with a different backstory.

(And mind you: No, that US Comic that marries the Digimon Tamers story with some of the game story, is very much not canon, like all US-only material.)

Thinking about an au of our war game where just a split second before omegamon/omnimon got diaboromon, it somehow managed to digitally infect taichi. Idk how but it transferred data and basically hacked him and infected him with a virus.

So like… evil taichi but not on purpose where he pushes his friends away and accidentally hurts them while he completely breaks down unsure of what is happening. Yamato desperately going to taichi all on his own because he wants to know what’s wrong with him and right at the very emotional moment between them, the virus strikes taichi and he hits him making Yamato shocked and taichi runs away. He leaves his goggles behind and Yamato takes them because somethings wrong and someone needs to take charge.

He brings the other kids together and they make a plan at taichis house to find him but then news on the tv af some weird glitchy stuff happening at a specific area and they all go to find out what it is. When they get there taichis in the middle in tears asking them to leave cause there’s something wrong with him. They go to reach and suddenly he’s overcome with the virus and they see it in his eyes. He apologises before it overtakes him and they watch as that dark version of him says all sorts of stuff before using a nearby screen to enter the internet and find a way to the digital world so the others have to make their way in and find him.

Cue the searching and finally getting in and finding their digimon who are desperate to save agumon and when they find them who do they see?

Pockmon/Pockomun

Another Entity (like Nyx) I made back on Scratch before moving here....The Pokemon Game Entity who ruins your Pokemon Games for fun and caused incidents like Lost Silver and Lavender Town Syndrome. It is also responsible for creating Missingo, Buried Alive,The Unown King and many other notable Pokepasta-Creepypasta entities and glitches.Pockomun is a shortened version of Pocket Monsters which is the Japanese name from Pokemon. Pockomun also has parts of The Creation Trio on it's body because it's extremely powerful. And the creation trio created the entire Pokemon world so it was worth to use parts of them. Also he is male. Also yes he takes the form of the Gamefreak logo.Pockmon is a Tall humanoid entity with the Gamefreak Logo for a Head, he has the Hells Bell Bronzong Teeth, Arceus's Ring but its all black with red eyes with white eye colors and Black pupils in them, a Long Spikey tail, has 2 feet with 3 Clawed Toes on them.wings of Giratina, and has one red eye with a White eye Coloration and a Black Pupil on the Gamefreak logo....Lost Silver, Red, The Unown King, Lavender Towns Ghost, Hells Bell Bronzong, Hypno, Missingno, loneliness, And a whole lot more all originate from HIM..... So far due to what is known about Pockmon he's the Hivemind responcible for Lavender Town's Syndrome problem.... hence why The Orange Sanctum Corporation is Making sure Pockmon never infects another Gameboy, or any Game device that Plays Pokemon on it from Behaving in the way Pockmon wants itits also known that Pockmon has made his Presence well known in any Region Pockmon's Been Sighted in hence why the Orange Sanctum Corporation has The Copies Infected with Pockmon's Presence Further Preventing him from infecting another world to Behave in the Darkened way of Lavender Town itself... He's the god of pokepasta. In the Digimon and FNAF movie: curse of dreadbear AKA Digimon FNAF frankencreepy. Menoa Bellucci got brutally murdered by Pockmon cuz they don't need trim. After Menoa Bellucci died. Pockmon just never completely good for in the good side of the Digimon and pokémon world. So morphomon and glitchtrap runs away from Pockmon . Cuz she didn't like Menoa Bellucci

Honestly, i think it'd be cool to explore the spiral hive mind as if it were a syphoniphore

something like a Man of War. Something made of up of many different organisms, which can survive on their own for some time, but still need each other to survive

And they're made up of things lost during the digivolution progress (and other than my constant question of WHEN did the digivolution start happening in digimon), right now, its more or less, what makes up the hive mind to make it so...lonely?

It was once part of other beings- but then it was shed like a snake sheds off its old skin. How a spider molts to grow. What was lost and why was it sentient?

Was it like apocalymon? (Even though apocoalymon was from the digimon that died DURING or BEFORE they could fully digivolve) something lost and festered so badly like an open gaping wound that got infected with the illness known as loneliness? The isolation? What made them so isolated to begin with? How long did it fester?

Just...i think about the spiral hive mind in the same way you could think about the kero-thingies in maimaimaigoen. The egg frog hive mind made up of children who failed the park games. The children would would never be able to survive.

Digimon Data Squad (Savers) - Episode 16

I gotta say, I've definitely been enjoying this series way more than Frontier. It's so nice to have the digimon partners back and the more mature characters are a breath of fresh air.

The animation has been pretty strong too. Very colorful, expressive & dynamic with only a little bit of off model moments here and there.

Anyways, the writing in this one was very intriguing on both a character and world development level. Good times.

Notes:

I totally thought Blossomon would be a Lalamon digivolution and that Yoshino would be more heavily featured, but she gets relegated to being a damsel in distress. It would have been interesting if Tohma (the most reliable) was the one to get sick and Masaru and Yoshi had to figure out what to do. We need more variety in episode leads!!

A Digital World virus infecting humans was a really interesting idea. I feel like (since it's a fantasy virus) maybe they could have done more with the symptoms other than just a fever. Maybe there will be some long term side effects or something. I liked how they showed the virus via that holographic effect.

So it's revealed that Tohma's PhD is, in fact, a medical one. There was a funny line change for the dub. In the original Masaru asks how Tohma has his PhD at 14 and Gaomon says "They made an exception." In the dub he says "He's smarter than you." Lol. I like the addition because Gaomon is pretty flat typically.

Yoshino and Lalamon resting and talking about how they want to be stronger/more useful to the group was sad. Maybe it's foreshadowing that the writers will let them be useful tho?

Masaru didn't know what "virus" or "vaccine" meant? Lol, oh pre-COVID times...(In his defense, they are borrowed words from English).

Tohma does a digi-microaggression when he says "I thought digimon couldn't die?" to Falcomon lol. Masaru glaring at him was kind of funny

(Awkwaaaard. On a serious note, I think the way things work in this version of the Digital World is that digimon "die" in that when they're resurrected they don't remember their past lives? That was implied earlier with Piyomon anyways...)

I like the effort they're putting into the weird settings of the DIgital World. They're not really much to look at close up, but the landscape shots are cool at least.

They gave Blossomon a vaguely flamboyant voice in the sub. Because gay = villain I guess lol. At least that seems to happen a lot in Digimon and other anime.
