See, but there's something about the first fight in episode 1 that just doesn't really. fit. It very much feels like we are missing information here.
I have been thinking about this show all day, as one does, but in particular why Crowley gets angry enough to shoot literal lightning at a nearby building. We have experienced him upset before, but never to that specific degree, and their disagreement over Gabriel just does not explain it for me.
My hypothesis: a big, important fight happened right before season 2 picks up that left Crowley feeling rejected and Aziraphale neglected.
The biggest clue is the snippet of conversation about myself vs. ourselves.
Tumblr media
"I thought we had carved it out for ourselves"
He almost sounds offended when he says that, yet Crowley reacts with equal parts hurt and anger, like he is referencing something that we, the viewer, do not have any knowledge of.
Tumblr media
"So did I"
However, Aziraphale seems to understand whatever Crowley is referring to and does not respond with anything in return. Yet whatever wound they just opened keeps bleeding, and when Aziraphale tells him, packaged nicely, to fuck off, Crowley seems more sad than upset to me.
Tumblr media
The to go? is almost said softly and with an initial confusion that hides a LOT of unspoken pain. Plus the HAND MOTION? The gesturing between the two of them while saying "oh, so this is how you wanna do this?" - call me insane, but to me that very much sounds like "oh so this is how you want to break up?"
Tumblr media
The funny part is, if Aziraphale had simply shut up after saying "I want you to help me take care of him", I can GUARANTEE YOU that Crowley would have begrudgingly agreed. But he doesn't. He keeps going and this is the first moment this season where he is genuinely and truly bitchy.
"But if you won't, you won't" with the demonstrative sit-down and turning away from him, eyes forward. It pokes at whatever wound is still open and bleeding between them. Aziraphale wants Crowley to jump over his shadow and come help him, ignoring his boundaries. Meanwhile Crowley feels fundamentally misunderstood and rejected and wants Aziraphale to SHOW that he cares about Crowley more than he cares about fucking Gabriel of all people.
That he cares about them more than about heaven.
And now we have finally reached Crowley's breaking-point. he is so deeply hurt by what Aziraphale just said and did, choosing heaven over them, that the pain turns into anger because he has no other way of expressing or feeling it in the first place.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
You're on your own with this one.
That last look is filled with such disappointed heartbreak, he turns around simply to give Aziraphale a chance to ask him to stay, to apologize, something. Yet again, he does not. He doesn't even meet his gaze, he is looking away.
Tumblr media
To me, he seems almost spiteful, like this entire argument is only superficially about Gabriel but about something entirely else deeper down.
Which - that's the point, isn't it?
Crowley comes back and apologizes because Aziraphale matters more to him than stupid arguments or choosing sides, keeping him safe is the only thing he cares about when it comes down to it. He swallows down his hurt and betrayal and does what Aziraphale wants: ignoring the entire argument and pretending nothing ever happened so they can continue like before.
Only that they can't. The entire season shows just how much they cannot go back to their arrangement, no matter how hard Crowley tries to mold himself to Aziraphale's will. Their final argument simply reflects all of that and more. The same wound that first one was about gets reopened very violently and they're bleeding all over each other with no way to stop it because they're too fucking stubborn to admit that it exists in the first place.
Aziraphale and Crowley can only fix their relationship when they acknowledge the reason the rift between them opened up. Until then, Crowley feels truly rejected and Aziraphale feels entirely neglected, and there is nothing anyone can do to make them confront that.

What if, once Aziraphale has been briefed about everything in Heaven, he is left alone in a white space, no windows to look at the world, no desk (do you remember, how Gabriel didn't have a desk), no books, no art, no music, no sound and - of course - no Crowley, and after being there for a while, he gets flashbacks of all the wonderful memories he has of being on earth, with Crowley.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Tumblr media
Crowley rescuing his books and making the paint gun stain disappear. Crowley making Hamlet a hit and just meeting up with him at St. James Park. Dining at the Ritz and toasting the world. Just being at his book shop together. All the times they touched, the dancing. And you just see all the emotions that brings with it, played out by Michael Sheen. Aziraphale then remembers everything Crowley said to him before their last breakup - and everything he said back - and we see a kind of shocked and distressed understanding dawning on his face, because he finally starts to understand just what went so terribly wrong during this conversation.
Tumblr media
And then he remembers the kiss. And - finally - a tear rolls down his face, accompanied by a faint smile while he hears Crowley's voice in his head "You are so clever! How can somebody as clever as you be so stupid?!".
Tumblr media
Tumblr media
And then this feeling is back - well it didn't ever really leave, but it's starting to take over now: Everything would be better, if he were just near one particular person.
And then he finds a way to go back to Crowley. To apologise. To tell him, that he got it all wrong. That he never wanted for Crowley to become an Angel again, because he thought he wasn't good enough. That he loves him just the way he his. And that despite it all - even if it is too much to ask -...

It's just absolutely fucking inconceivable to me, how people can complain about season 2 of Good Omens, because they thought, they were just friends! 🤡
Like, guys! Have we even watched the same show?!
How can you watch season 1 of Good Omens, and think Aziraphale and Crowley ARE JUST GOOD FRIENDS?!

Portraits
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
I forgot to post this here whoops.
Did some sketch requests on Instagram and someone asked for "Aziracrow drawing portraits of each other". So I, naturally, slipped in a little reference there.
There are many other requests I drew, but I want to fully coloured them, so I'll post them when they are!
I like to think that Crowley has at least some art skills he's gathered throughout the millennia. Not at Aziraphale's level, of course, but it's something.

I am not entirely certain what will happen once the actors & writers strike ends, but I'm pretty sure Michael Sheen will break the sound barrier with how fast he will go feral on the internets about how Aziraphale wants to eat Crowley's ox rib

Everyone's always going on about Crowley/David Tennant being the slutty one with his slutty little walk and his slutty and unusual little relationship with furniture but no one talks about slutty Aziraphale/Michael Sheen and his slutty little expressions every time he looks at Crowley, the harlot

Michael Sheen is a master of micro-expressions and knew what he was doing.

Good Omens S2 managed to do something no other show I've see ever do. Write S2 exactly like a fanfic.
Sapphic side characters with a coffee shop involved? Check.
Amnesia? Check.
Side popular ship that becomes canon despite the fact that nobody ever thought it actually would? Check.
Dancing ball scene? Check.
Mischievous match making by main ship? Check.
Character B pours their heart out to Character A and confesses their love and kisses them like there's no tomorrow? Check.
Character A confesses their love back?
Oh.

This is such a great insight! I absolutely agree!
Have I mentioned, that these ineffable idiots just don't properly TALK TO EACH OTHER?!
AAAAAARGH! IT IS SO FRUSTRATING!
Tumblr media
Can’t stop thinking about how all of S2, Aziraphale is throwing himself at Crowley physically (the hand on his chest in the bar, the dance, the hand on his shoulder when Gabe and Beez say being together is more important than sides) waiting for Crowley to make the next move, while Crowley is throwing himself at Aziraphale emotionally (trying to make the humans fall in love by engineering a rainstorm, letting Aziraphale drive his car, recommending Alpha Centauri as a place for Gabe and Beez to go). And how in the final 15, they finally get closer to giving the other what they have been asking for all season, but it’s twisted and miscommunicated: “come with me” Aziraphale says and all Crowley hears is “to heaven”; “I need you” Aziraphale says, and all Crowley hears is “to change for me”; Crowley grabs Aziraphale and kisses him the way Aziraphale has wanted all season and Aziraphale, thinking it’s a temptation away from Heaven, forgives him instead of kissing him back.

listen, whatever you do, do not imagine, after they have reunited, made up, and confessed feelings, do not imagine them teary eyed and crashing into a slow, passionate kiss as the music swells, Aziraphale wrapping his arms around Crowley's neck to pull him closer and Crowley squeezing his waist, and then the camera slowly pans down and all we see is a chainmail scarf being thrown on the floor followed by a tartan bowtie. i repeat, do not imagine it.

Exactly what I was thinking. I was like, 2nd season? Why? There's only one book and we covered that. Wasn't this supposed to be a one-off mini series? Well, it can't hurt to have a look at it, can it?
And BOY, did it HURT! 😭💔
See the thing is. When they announced Good Omens season 2 I was like. We absolutely do not need a second season of Good Omens. But now we have a second season of Good Omens and I’m like. If we don’t get a third season I am going to start chewing drywall.

After two and a half years of hyperfixating on Good Omens I FINALLY had a Good Omens dream. In my dream I watched the ending of season 3 and apparently at the end there is like a big battle between heaven+hell vs Aziraphale and Crowley (who are still not talking all throughout the season) + all of humanity. They win but Aziraphale gets seriously injured and he takes to bed rest in his very fancy, very extravagantly luxurious Victorian mansion, and Muriel is his primary caregiver & since they love to cosplay so much they dress up in a little Victorian nurse costume with the little apron and pinafore and frilly cap and all. And one day when Aziraphale is feeling a little better Crowley asks them to let him see his angel and Muriel tells him that they can accompany him when they will take Azi's dinner up for him.
When they go to his chambers at dinner time Muriel tells Crowley to wait outside while they take the soup in and ask Aziraphale if he wants to see Crowley. Crowley stays quietly but presses his ear to the door the minute Muriel shuts it behind them. He hears muffled conversation he can't quite make out and then Aziraphale shouts : "It's disgusting, it's horrid, it's abhorrent and anomalous, and above all it's WICKED and it's EVIL! I don't want to see it ever again. Take it away from me!"
Crowley lets out a quite sob and dashes down and corridor and drives away from the mansion forever, heartbroken eternally.
Muriel walks out of the room confused to find the demon gone and the bowl of soup, still full, in their hands. Of course Aziraphale was only talking about the soup.
~ The End~
