i am sure this has been written before, but i am beset by the notion of garak the plain and simple tailor who IS a plain and simple tailor.
regular cardassian fashion mogul with a thriving company who thrives on gossip and the ruthlessness of the industry. gets involved into a scheme re: dukat senior, a pair of pants with secret pockets, and several state secrets and gets duly exiled about it.
the fact that he's tain's extremely traumatized illegitimate son doesn't change.
it's not sentiment that keeps tain from turning him into an obsidian order operative, he is simply too aware of the usefulness of having a readily available source on the high-end service class inside sphere of of powerful society. very, very useful - especially when it comes to stitching listening and recording devices, secret armor and protective fibers, slow-acting poison...
instead of being sent to bamarren he goes to cardassia's best tradesmen boarding school, which is not, all things considered, less competitive or soul-sucking or dangerous to life and limb than bamarren.
the wire? typically implemented on civilian-adjacent collaborators of the obsidian order.
in conclusion: if deep space nine's only tolerable human wants to role play spy-and-ingenue over lunch, elim garak, three times the cover for the equivalent of the kardasi'or vogue, is bored and high and frankly into it enough to go for it.

Ok so, what is Inver how can I read it gimmie the sales pitch pspsps pretty please
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
This is Inver! It is an alternate history northwest Europe
It's a play on the old region of Doggerland; the North-East Atlantic Archipelago* with sea levels reduced by a catastrophic past event that spread parts of the fairy world out into the real world. This Event also wiped out all human life in the area pictured above, leaving it uninhabited for hundreds of years before it was slowly settled again by people from the land bridge to Hibernia, and people coming up from Aquitan
Tumblr media
As a result of a war between these two groups of people and subsequent cultural exchange, Inver's dominant culture is a Hiberno-French mixture. Br*tain does not and has never existed.
The Event in Inver's history has still left large swathes of this land uninhabitable, with the only way east blocked by the Ruad, a hostile, labyrinthine, and largely impassible fairy territory. This has stifled the ability of these lands to produce much of value; Inver is a poor country, considered a kind of industrial backwater with a monarchy descended marauding werewolf war clans. This paragraph could last literally forever if I liked (and I did like. that's why there's books)
Inver's Régian Era, roughly equivalent to the Victorian era irl, is the stage for my main book series Moth Viper Foal (#mvf) (links are to the books & the tag on my art blog). It is an era of great change in Inver; much of the capital city is ruled by criminal gangs and a foreign church while the great noble houses, having lost touch with their people, turn on one another for sport. The story follows the sequence of events that ultimately results in catastrophic change for everybody in the region, and the dawn of a new era (that's as vague as i can make it)
But really it's about the (gay) struggles of outgrowing your relationships, setting higher standards for yourself, and all the various ways someone can fail to be a man. Main (POV) characters are three ex-conmen & one DLC extra nobleman. Before the start of the story, a catastrophic argument between two of the guys precedes one of them (Félix) getting kidnapped by the Black Horse, a fairy. He is returned five years later, a servant of the horse, to find that his friends (and ex-friends) have changed completely in his absence, and his old life is done for good.
I'm very bad at summaries so idk really. It's a story about interpersonal drama and friend breakups between some guys and also fairies are there. It's all i think about. Every other setting & post on this blog not about Inver was made as a kind of mental break from thinking about Inver. I've been working on it since 2019
you can check the overall tag to see posts from both my blogs including some very nice art and some absolutely heinous AUs (Pern Story among them??? maybe. idk if i tagged it)
also there's two more stories set in Inver, Ancient Inver which is a telling of the wars that founded the country and also an exploration of Being FTM, and also Modern Inver which is set in the distant future of 2017 and it's a buddy cop/detective thriller about a ranger investigating a series of supernatural kidnappings with the help of the guy who did most of them.

Raider of the lost cask: Harrison Ford dons a kilt for new collaboration with Glenmorangie whisky
Hollywood legend, Harrison Ford has teamed up with the well-known Highland single malt, Glenmorangie, in a new global campaign.
As cinematic icons go, Harrison Ford is arguably up there with the true greats of leading men in Hollywood. From his iconic roles as Han Solo in the Star Wars franchise, Indiana Jones and Blade Runner’s Rick Deckard, to the award-nominated roles in Witness and The Fugitive, Ford has shown his broad breath of artistic talent over an incredible seven decades as an actor.
His next role, however, is something a little different, and this week it was revealed that he is to star alongside one of Scotland’s leading lights – namely single malt whisky, Glenmorangie, in a series of short episodic films, directed by actor and filmmaker, Joel Edgerton.
Once Upon a Time in Scotland takes us behind-the-scenes as Ford journeys to Glenmorangie’s Highland home, to discover the skill and craftsmanship that goes into making each bottle of the well-known whisky. It sees the actor enjoy an authentic Scottish experience — from getting to grips with the nuances of Scottish pronunciation and kilt etiquette, to bonding with locals and distillery workers over a dram of single malt — all shot in an unconventional, deliberately ‘off-script’ style.
'I loved working with the team at the distillery — they were all great,” explained Ford. “The whole process of filming was full of unanticipated joys: little unexpected moments. It’s a tribute to Glenmorangie’s sensibilities that they let us be less than totally serious. I think what Joel [Edgerton] has produced has a certain charm to it, because it’s unpretentious and just amusing.'
A total of 12 episodes were filmed, taking in the picturesque north-east Highlands of Scotland: from the historic distillery in Tain where Glenmorangie has been created for over 180 years, to the storied 19th century Ardross Castle, (most recently seen in the BBC One show, The Traitors,) and the dramatic landscapes surrounding Loch Glass. Ford is supported by an unlikely cast of the actual Glenmorangie distillery team, including whisky maker, Dr Bill Lumsden (who was just awarded an MBE for his services to the whisky industry), alongside several whiskies from the brand’s range including the Original 12 Years Old and Glenmorangie Infinita 18 Years Old.
The 12 episodes are complemented by still images shot by acclaimed fashion photographer Lachlan Bailey. They feature Ford as he’s never been seen before: donning a stylish Scottish kilt designed by streetwear brand Palace.

❀ *◦ christian yu. demiboy. he/they. pansexual panromantic. ⇝ hey, isn’t that lee "bastian" sebastian ( nickname: erebus )? i think that the thirty year old from melbourne, australia works as owner of wrench it, cashier at dracula's coffin club, and member of the bastards, but outside of that people describe them as a symphony in an empty ballroom, bruises colouring your knuckles in blue and purple, taking a punch with a grin, scattered shards of a broken mirror, an aura of black following your every move, tenderness buried under the rubble. i hear they are capricious & cunning, but they are also known to be resolute & sharp-witted. consider giving them a visit at their home in kingpin trailer park, and get to know why they’re called the serpent. stats / pinterest
disclaimer: most, but not all, of the gifs found on this blog are mine, made from scratch. please do not save, repost, use or claim as your own.
BASICS
full name: lee sebastian
age: 30 years old
date of birth: march 22, 1994
hometown: melbourne, australia
gender: demiboy
pronouns: he/they
sexuality: pansexual/panromantic
occupation: owner of wrench it, cashier at dracula's coffin club
spoken languages: korean, english, american sign language
parents: unknown
siblings: unknown
BACKGROUND
TWS for implied abuse, mental illness, religion & substance abuse
sebastian's story begins in melbourne, australia, born at exactly 3:33 am ... to two extremely devout catholics. their child being born at ( in their beliefs ) a time that symbolized satanism brought great unrest, which would in turn be the very reason they abandoned him just years later. convinced that their son was possessed by the evil entity, or was the devil himself, when in actuality he was just a child who needed to be nurtured, their love turned to hate.
having gone so far as to have him exorcised, it was only a matter of time before they abandoned him, only six years old at the time. dissociative amnesia caused the more traumatic memories and their aftermaths to be lost in the depths of his mind; when he came back, he was in a ward of the foster care system. the life of torment he lived was over, but he couldn't escape the ghosts of it that haunted him, a permanent reminder burned onto his skin in the shape of a crucifix.
they called this child who'd forgotten his own name ezra, which was what he went by from that point on. the rest of his upbringing was spent in the foster care system, relocated more times than he could keep track of, never finding a place to call home, or a family to call his own.
harbouring a reputation, most of his peers thought of him in the same way his parents did. he wasn't an outgoing or obedient child, and his tendency to get into trouble only got worse in his teenage years. the black sheep of each home and social circle, sebastian's life was spent almost entirely alone; his only companion being the stray kitten that wandered the premises.
inevitably aging out of foster care, sebastian was faced with many more challenges. without any guidance or resources, he ended up in sydney with the feline, homeless for some time before getting recruited into a gang. there was much better company to be in, but it got him off of the streets and gave him some sort of purpose. he was, however, a snake in the grass. after a year of doing the dirty work and being shoved around, he sold the gang out, discreetly running off with the funds and taking off to seoul, south korea.
having changed his name before setting off, lee sebastian was finally born, and his life could finally begin. in time, he'd be swooped into the music industry, where he was finally thought of as something other than damned. the group achieved great success, and during this period, he began to explore his gender identity, ultimately discovering himself to be a demiboy, identifying as such going forward.
the waters grew rough late 2016, when symptoms of his very neglected mental health worsened. he began stray from the path and taint his idol image ( a concept that he hated ) – the life wasn't as perfect as it seemed. past habits returned, and substance abuse became a coping mechanism when times were especially tough. soon enough, he'd find himself back in the pits of hell.
bastian's inevitable departure from the industry was explosive and def left a mark. leaving the members behind, just as what had been done with the gang all those years ago ( except staying in touch this time ), bastian all but disappeared as he relocated to anchorage, alaska. while many didn't take what he accused the label of seriously, it came just 6 months before its shut down, following the situation with nikolai's group in 2017.
eventually finding a new place of belonging, bastian became a member of the bastards; the second gang he'd be a part of, but it was far less bullshit he'd have to put up with than the former. anchorage came to be his home, as fucked up and shrouded in mystery as it was, and this time, he wouldn't run away.
HEADCANONS
bastian still struggles with episodes of memory gaps and disassociation, and is diagnosed with a dissociative disorder that he does seek therapy / take medication for, as well as for his personality disorder.
even though he ditched the industry a long time ago, he still makes music of his own today as a creative outlet and is professionally known as bash, though he's more off the radar these days with a smaller but devoted fanbase.
was in a long-term relationship (with some off and on's) with nikolai up until recently. even though they're just friends now, he'll always be his first priority.
personality wise, may come across as cold and unwelcoming at first ( resting bitch face and being covered in tattoos probably doesn't help this ), but below that iciness is just a fucking dork. a grumpy but loveable one. he means well!!! generally speaking, he is easy enough to get along with if you don't mind that he's brutally honest and a little rough around the edges
he is notttt a patient person by any means. impatience is probably one of his biggest flaws, along with impulsivity which gets him in fucked up situations; they don't have time for any bullshit. the type of person to just walk away in the middle of a conversation if it's deemed a waste of time. also has a short fuse. sometimes u just gotta be like let's get u to bed grandpa FDHGJFDH
as a result of trauma, he has one white blind eye.
still has the cat from when he aged out of the foster system!!! she is 11 years old now and is a lil seal point siamese named danbi. loves her to death. has another siamese mix, a 4 year old named Jimothy that was adopted with nikolai – they coparent him. also has a black german shepherd named loki!!!
just another #mess added to the roster tbh. we love him

During an interview with his ghostwriter Charlotte Reather for THE FIELD magazine, SH mentioned buying a pair of Scottish 22-bore flintlock all-metal belt pistols made by John Murdoch of Doune, countryside of Stirlingshire from the mid-18th century. He acquired them at Bonhams, an auction house located in London's Knightsbridge.

£12.160 = $15.470

The Highland warriors of Scotland carried distinctive arms. Their pistols, unlike those made elsewhere in Great Britain, were constructed entirely from metal, usually steel, and were engraved and often silver-inlaid with geometric and foliate ornament of Celtic inspiration. This pair, signed by the renowned gunsmith John Murdoch of Doune, is a classic example of the type.
Scottish pistols were sold in pairs, sometimes with their mechanisms on opposite sides for use in each hand. A long belt hook enabled them to be worn against the body or tucked inside a plaid, protected against the weather.
From the 17th century, gunsmiths in Scotland produced pistols that were unique to the country. Made entirely of steel, elaborately engraved and with distinctively-shaped butts, they acquired the name 'Highland pistols' because many of the towns where they were made - Tain, Inverness, Brechin, Perth, Doune - skirted the southern and eastern edges of the Highlands. Their market was international and their reputation legendary.
Scotland’s Highland warriors carried an array of distinctive fighting tools – the dirk, claymore broadsword, the hidden “black knife” or skean dubh, and, for the fortunate officer, a pistol from the renowned gunsmith guild of Doune, Perthshire. This classic example of a Doune pistol is constructed entirely out of steel as Scottish wood was generally unsuitable for firearms. It is engraved with Celtic geometric and foliate ornamentation. This pistol has a trigger guard although many did not. The village of Doune was known for the manufacture of high-quality firearms in the 17th and 18th centuries but after the Battle of Culloden in 1746 and the subsequent Disarming Act – which banned Scots from carrying weapons – the town’s gunsmithing industry ceased to exist.

For the friends of Scottish arms here fotos of what I think is a very fine pistol made by John Murdoch of Doune. The barrel of the pistol has 8 flat grooves, a back- and a front sight.

A FINE PAIR OF SCOTTISH ALL-METAL FLINTLOCK BELT PISTOLS BY JOHN MURDOCH
With four-stage barrels engraved at the flared octagonal muzzles and with symmetrical scrolling foliage at the mid-sections, fluted breeches each with notched back-sight at the rear, border engraved flat bevelled locks each signed in capitals and decorated with foliage on the tail, cocks en suite (one expertly replaced), faceted line engraved steels, three-quarter stocks engraved with foliate line ornament and characteristic foliage, the undersides each with three foliate engraved silver lines, foliate engraved ram's horn butts with interlace inlaid with silver along the back and each with vacant oval silver escutcheon on both sides, silver button triggers and threaded prickers (one replaced) each engraved as a flower-head, slender partly fluted belt hooks each with pierced and engraved terminal, and original slender steel ramrods each with baluster tip engraved with a flower-head.

A Scottish pistol reputedly fired the first shot in the American War of Independence. Highland Officer, (Black Watch) 42nd Foot Royal Highland Regiment Grenadier. 1762 showing the butt of the pistol and the small leather belt it is hooked on.
Tumblr media
It's worth noting that SH is not an antique weapon collector. While he may have bought some as memorabilia, it's important to hope that he appreciates their historical significance and doesn't simply use them to impress others with his wealth. Given his tendency to show off, it's also important to remember that these guns should not be treated as toys or used to entertain others.😐

CONTROL OF HUMAN BEHAVIOR
143. Since the beginning of civilization, organized societies have had to put pressures on human beings of the sake of the functioning of the social organism. The kinds of pressures vary greatly from one society to another. Some of the pressures are physical (poor diet, excessive labor, environmental pollution), some are psychological (noise, crowding, forcing human behavior into the mold that society requires). In the past, human nature has been approximately constant, or at any rate has varied only within cer tain bounds. Consequently, societies have been able to push people only up to certain limits. When the limit of human endurance has been passed, things start going wrong: rebellion, or crime, or corruption, or evasion of work, or depression and other mental problems, or an elevated death rate, or a declining birth rate or something else, so that either the society breaks down, or its functioning becomes too inefficient and it is (quickly or gradually, through conquest, attrition or evolution) replaced by some more efficient form of society. [25]
144. Thus human nature has in the past put certain limits on the development of societies. People could be pushed only so far and no farther. But today this may be changing, because modern technology is developing ways of modifying human beings.
145. Imagine a society that subjects people to conditions that make them terribly unhappy, then gives them drugs to take away their unhappiness. Science fiction? It is already happening to some extent in our own society. It is well known that the rate of clinical depression has been greatly increasing in recent decades. We believe that this is due to disruption of the power process, as explained in paragraphs 59-76. But even if we are wrong, the increasing rate of depression is certainly the result of SOME conditions that exist in today's society. Instead of removing the conditions that make people depressed, modern society gives them antidepressant drugs. In effect, antidepressants are a means of modifying an individual's internal state in such a way as to enable him to tolerate social conditions that he would otherwise find intolerable. (Yes, we know that depression is often of purely genetic origin. We are referring here to those cases in which environment plays the predominant role.)
146. Drugs that affect the mind are only one example of the new methods of controlling human behavior that modern society is developing. Let us look at some of the other methods.
147. To start with, there are the techniques of surveillance. Hidden video cameras are now used in most stores and in many other places, computers are used to collect and process vast amounts of information about individuals. Information so obtained greatly increases the effectiveness of physical coercion (i.e., law enforcement). [26] Then there are the methods of propaganda, for which the mass communication media provide effective vehicles. Efficient techniques have been developed for winning elections, selling products, influencing public opinion. The entertainment industry serves as an important psychological tool of the system, possibly even when it is dishing out large amounts of sex and violence. Entertainment provides modern man with an essential means of escape. While absorbed in television, videos, etc., he can forget stress, anxiety, frustration, dissatisfaction. Many primitive peoples, when they don't have work to do, are quite content to sit for hours at a time doing nothing at all, because they are at peace with themselves and their world. But most modern people must be constantly occupied or entertained, otherwise they get "bored," i.e., they get fidgety, uneasy, irritable.
148. Other techniques strike deeper than the foregoing. Education is no longer a simple affair of paddling a kid's behind when he doesn't know his lessons and patting him on the head when he does know them. It is becoming a scientific technique for controlling the child's development. Sylvan Learning Centers, for example, have had great success in motivating children to study, and psychological techniques are also used with more or less success in many conventional schools. "Parenting" techniques that are taught to parents are designed to make children accept fundamental values of the system and behave in ways that the system finds desirable. "Mental health" programs, "intervention" techniques, psychotherapy and so forth are ostensibly designed to benefit individuals, but in practice they usually serve as methodsfor inducing individuals to think and behave as the system requires. (There is no contradiction here; an individual whose attitudes or behavior bring him into conflict with the system is up against a force that is too powerful for him to conquer or escape from, hence he is likely to suffer from stress, frustration, defeat. His path will be much easier if he thinks and behaves as the system requires. In that sense the system is acting for the benefit of the individual when it brainwashes him into conformity.) Child abuse in its gross and obvious forms is disapproved in most if not all cultures. Tormenting a child for a trivial reason or no reason at all is something that appalls almost everyone. But many psychologists interpret the concept of abuse much more broadly. Is spanking, when used as part of a rational and consistent system of discipline, a form of abuse? The question will ultimately be decided by whether or not spanking tends to produce behavior that makes a person fit in well with the existing system of society. In practice, the word "abuse" tends to be interpreted to include any method of child-rearing that produces behavior inconvenient for the system. Thus, when they go beyond the prevention of obvious, senseless cruelty, programs for preventing "child abuse" are directed toward the control of human behavior on behalf of the system.
149. Presumably, research will continue to increase the effectiveness of psychological techniques for controlling human behavior. But we think it is unlikely that psychological techniques alone will be sufficient to adjust human beings to the kind of society that technology is creating. Biological methods probably will have to be used. We have already mentioned the use of drugs in this connection. Neurology may provide other avenues for modifying the human mind. Genetic engineering of human beings is already beginning to occur in the form of "gene therapy," and there is no reason to assume that such methods will not eventually be used to modify those aspects of the body that affect mental functioning.
150. As we mentioned in paragraph 134, industrial society seems likely to be entering a period of severe stress, due in part to problems of human behavior and in part to economic and environmental problems. And a considerable proportion of the system's economic and environmental problems result from the way human beings behave. Alienation, low self-esteem, depression, hostility, rebellion; children who won't study, youth gangs, illegal drug use, rape, child abuse, other crimes, unsafe sex, teen pregnancy, population growth, political corruption, race hatred, ethnic rivalry, bitter ideological conflict (e.g., pro-choice vs. pro-life), political extremism, terrorism, sabotage, anti-government groups, hate groups. All these threaten the very survival of the system. The system will therefore be FORCED to use every practical means of controlling human behavior.
151. The social disruption that we see today is certainly not the result of mere chance. It can only be a result of the conditions of life that the system imposes on people. (We have argued that the most important of these conditions is disruption of the power process.) If the systems succeeds in imposing sufficient control over human behavior to assure its own survival, a new watershed in human history will have been passed. Whereas formerly the limits of human endurance have imposed limits on the development of societies (as we explained in paragraphs 143, 144), industrial-technological society will be able to pass those limits by modifying human beings, whether by psychological methods or biological methods or both. In the future, social systems will not be adjusted to suit the needs of human beings. Instead, human being will be adjusted to suit the needs of the system. [27]
152. Generally speaking, technological control over human behavior will probably not be introduced with a totalitarian intention or even through a conscious desire to restrict human freedom. [28] Each new step in the assertion of control over the humanmind will be taken as a rational response to a problem that faces society, such as curing alcoholism, reducing the crime rate or inducing young people to study science and engineering. In many cases there will be a humanitarian justification. For example, when a psychiatrist prescribes an anti-depressant for a depressed patient, he is clearly doing that individual a favor. It would be inhumane to withhold the drug from someone who needs it. When parents send their children to Sylvan Learning Centers to have them manipulated into becoming enthusiastic about their studies, they do so from concern for their children's welfare. It may be that some of these parents wish that one didn't have to have specialized training to get a job and that their kid didn't have to be brainwashed into becoming a computer nerd. But what can they do? They can't change society, and their child may be unemployable if he doesn't have certain skills. So they send him to Sylvan.
153. Thus control over human behavior will be introduced not by a calculated decision of the authorities but through a process of social evolution (RAPID evolution, however). The process will be impossible to resist, because each advance, considered by itself, will appear to be beneficial, or at least the evil involved in making the advance will appear to be beneficial, or at least the evil involved in making the advance will seem to be less than that which would result from not making it (see paragraph 127). Propaganda for example is used for many good purposes, such as discouraging child abuse or race hatred. [14] Sex education is obviously useful, yet the effect of sex education (to the extent that it is successful) is to take the shaping of sexual attitudes away from the family and put it into the hands of the state as represented by the public school system.
154. Suppose a biological trait is discovered that increases the likelihood that a child will grow up to be a criminal, and suppose some sort of gene therapy can remove this trait. [29] Of course most parents whose children possess the trait will have them undergo the therapy. It would be inhumane to do otherwise, since the child would probably have a miserable life if he grew up to be a criminal. But many or most primitive societies have a low crime rate in comparison with that of our society, even though they have neither high-tech methods of child-rearing nor harsh systems of punishment. Since there is no reason to suppose that more modern men than primitive men have innate predatory tendencies, the high crime rate of our society must be due to the pressures that modern conditions put on people, to which many cannot or will not adjust. Thus a treatment designed to remove potential criminal tendencies is at least in part a way of re-engineering people so that they suit the requirements of the system.
155. Our society tends to regard as a "sickness" any mode of thought or behavior that is inconvenient for the system, and this is plausible because when an individual doesn't fit into the system it causes pain to the individual as well as problems for the system. Thus the manipulation of an individual to adjust him to the system is seen as a "cure" for a "sickness" and therefore as good.
156. In paragraph 127 we pointed out that if the use of a new item of technology is INITIALLY optional, it does not necessarily REMAIN optional, because the new technology tends to change society in such a way that it becomes difficult or impossible for an individual to function without using that technology. This applies also to the technology of human behavior. In a world in which most children are put through a program to make them enthusiastic about studying, a parent will almost be forced to put his kid through such a program, because if he does not, then the kid will grow up to be, comparatively speaking, an ignoramus and therefore unemployable. Or suppose a biological treatment is discovered that, without undesirable side-effects, will greatly reduce the psychological stress from which so many people suffer in our society. If large numbers of people choose to undergo the treatment, then the general level of stress in society will be reduced, so that it will be possible for the system to increase the stress-producing pressures. In fact, something like this seems to have happened already with one of our society's most important psychological tools for enabling people to reduce (or at least temporarily escape from) stress, namely, mass entertainment (see paragraph 147). Our use of mass entertainment is "optional": No law requires us to watch television, listen to the radio, read magazines. Yet mass entertainment is a means of escape and stress-reduction on which most of us have become dependent. Everyone complains about the trashiness of television, but almost everyone watches it. A few have kicked the TV habit, but it would be a rare person who could get along today without using ANY form of mass entertainment. (Yet until quite recently in human history most people got along very nicely with no other entertainment than that which each local community created for itself.) Without the entertainment industry the system probably would not have been able to get away with putting as much stress-producing pressure on us as it does.
157. Assuming that industrial society survives, it is likely that technology will eventually acquire something approaching complete control over human behavior. It has been established beyond any rational doubt that human thought and behavior have a largely biological basis. As experimenters have demonstrated, feelings such as hunger, pleasure, anger and fear can be turned on and off by electrical stimulation of appropriate parts of the brain. Memories can be destroyed by damaging parts of the brain or they can be brought to the surface by electrical stimulation. Hallucinations can be induced or moods changed by drugs. There may or may not be an immaterial human soul, but if there is one it clearly is less powerful that the biological mechanisms of human behavior. For if that were not the case then researchers would not be able so easily to manipulate human feelings and behavior with drugs and electrical currents.
158. It presumably would be impractical for all people to have electrodes inserted in their heads so that they could be controlled by the authorities. But the fact that human thoughts and feelings are so open to biological intervention shows that the problem of controlling human behavior is mainly a technical problem; a problem of neurons, hormones and complex molecules; the kind of problem that is accessible to scientific attack. Given the outstanding record of our society in solving technical problems, it is overwhelmingly probable that great advances will be made in the control of human behavior.
159. Will public resistance prevent the introduction of technological control of human behavior? It certainly would if an attempt were made to introduce such control all at once. But since technological control will be introduced through a long sequence of small advances, there will be no rational and effective public resistance. (See paragraphs 127, 132, 153.)
160. To those who think that all this sounds like science fiction, we point out that yesterday's science fiction is today's fact. The Industrial Revolution has radically altered man's environment and way of life, and it is only to be expected that as technology is increasingly applied to the human body and mind, man himself will be altered as radically as his environment and way of life have been.
HUMAN RACE AT A CROSSROADS
161. But we have gotten ahead of our story. It is one thing to develop in the laboratory a series of psychological or biological techniques for manipulating human behavior and quite another to integrate these techniques into a functioning social system. The latter problem is the more difficult of the two. For example, while the techniques of educational psychology doubtless work quite well in the "lab schools" where they are developed, it is not necessarily easy to apply them effectively throughout our educational system. We all know what many of our schools are like. The teachers are too busy taking knives and guns away from the kids to subject them to the latest techniques for making them into computer nerds. Thus, in spite of all its technical advances relating to human behavior, the system to date has not been impressively successful in controlling human beings. The people whose behavior is fairly well under the control of the system are those of the type that might be called "bourgeois." But there are growing numbers of people who in one way or another are rebels against the system: welfare leaches, youth gangs, cultists, satanists, nazis, radical environmentalists, militiamen, etc.
162. The system is currently engaged in a desperate struggle to overcome certain problems that threaten its survival, among which the problems of human behavior are the most important. If the system succeeds in acquiring sufficient control over human behavior quickly enough, it will probably survive. Otherwise it will break down. We think the issue will most likely be resolved within the next several decades, say 40 to 100 years.
163. Suppose the system survives the crisis of the next several decades. By that time it will have to have solved, or at least brought under control, the principal problems that confront it, in particular that of "socializing" human beings; that is, making people sufficiently docile so that heir behavior no longer threatens the system. That being accomplished, it does not appear that there would be any further obstacle to the development of technology, and it would presumably advance toward its logical conclusion, which is complete control over everything on Earth, including human beings and all other important organisms. The system may become a unitary, monolithic organization, or it may be more or less fragmented and consist of a number of organizations coexisting in a relationship that includes elements of both cooperation and competition, just as today the government, the corporations and other large organizations both cooperate and compete with one another. Human freedom mostly will have vanished, because individuals and small groups will be impotent vis-a-vis large organizations armed with supertechnology and an arsenal of advanced psychological and biological tools for manipulating human beings, besides instruments of surveillance and physical coercion. Only a small number of people will have any real power, and even these probably will have only very limited freedom, because their behavior too will be regulated; just as today our politicians and corporation executives can retain their positions of power only as long as their behavior remains within certain fairly narrow limits.
164. Don't imagine that the systems will stop developing further techniques for controlling human beings and nature once the crisis of the next few decades is over and increasing control is no longer necessary for the system's survival. On the contrary, once the hard times are over the system will increase its control over people and nature more rapidly, because it will no longer be hampered by difficulties of the kind that it is currently experiencing. Survival is not the principal motive for extending control. As we explained in paragraphs 87-90, technicians and scientists carry on their work largely as a surrogate activity; that is, they satisfy their need for power by solving technical problems. They will continue to do this with unabated enthusiasm, and among the most interesting and challenging problems for them to solve will be those of understanding the human body and mind and intervening in their development. For the "good of humanity," of course.
165. But suppose on the other hand that the stresses of the coming decades prove to be too much for the system. If the system breaks down there may be a period of chaos, a "time of troubles" such as those that history has recorded at various epochs in the past. It is impossible to predict what would emerge from such a time of troubles, but at any rate the human race would be given a new chance. The greatest danger is that industrial society may begin to reconstitute itself within the first few years after the breakdown. Certainly there will be many people (power-hungry types especially) who will be anxious to get the factories running again.
166. Therefore two tasks confront those who hate the servitude to which the industrial system is reducing the human race. First, we must work to heighten the social stresses within the system so as to increase the likelihood that it will break down or be weakened sufficiently so that a revolution against it becomes possible. Second, it is necessary to develop and propagate an ideology that opposes technology and the industrial society if and when the system becomes sufficiently weakened. And such an ideology will help to assure that, if and when industrial society breaks down, its remnants will be smashed beyond repair, so that the system cannot be reconstituted. The factories should be destroyed, technical books burned, etc.

Five years ago I was inspired to write about Edward Burne-Jones, a Virgo, born August 28th 1833. I was in Japan at the time, and there he is very much appreciated. The taste for Burne-Jones’s style dwindled in the 20th century, but came back to life in the seventies with the growth of books on astrology and the occult, and the selling of posters for people in bedsits. The style is associated with anti industrialism, harping back with nostalgia to a simpler world in which purity and integrity have not been tained by the corruption of the world.
Burne-Jones had a vision he shared with some of the Pre-Raphaelites which was that of a medieval idyll containing elegant but slightly adrogynous youthful figures drawn from fairytales and myths. The woods and forests are dark and foreboding and even stylised, but the landscape in his paintings creates a magical backdrop for the figures and stories presented. These figures even though drawn from actual models in real life all looked similar and lacking any indivuduality because they represent archeytpes of the soul- in fact they could all be Psyche on her way through her trials and tribulations. But also he represents Vesta with intense concentration on his ideal goal. You can check where these asteroids are in your chart.
What brought Burne Jones back to mind was Mercury going direct on August 28th at 21° Leo - Burne-Jone’s Mercury is at 25° of Leo and Mercury will arrive at that point on the 6th September. Also, that recently I was at the Tate Britain and saw this frieze of ‘Eight Women Gathering Apples’ which I’d not seen before. It is a large and impressive in colour range, using ceramic paint that gives it a glossy finish. Perhaps 8 is significant because of 8 phases of the Moon- he was aware of planetary symbolism as my article outlines. See the gallery.
But above all it is his anniversary which is now approaching 200 years since his birth. So Burne-Jones is worth celebrating as the ultimate Virgo, deep into his research, intensely concentrated on detail, technically proficient and his work stands the test of time and portrays a world we may have lost. By looking again at his paintings and admiring this technical precision and industriousness we can reconnect with the mystery of that ideal world and bring it closer.
I'll post the full article in the next post.

"5,000 Steel Workers Strike," Windsor Star. January 12, 1943. Page 1 & 6. ---- Great Plant At Sydney Is Tied Up ---- Trouble Also Likely at Canadian Soo; Wage Dispute Is the Cause ---- By Canadian Press SYDNEY, NS, Jan. 12-Approxi mately 5,000 steel workers of the Dominion Steel and Coal Corporation's huge plant here went on strike today in protest over the majority report of the Barlow commission.
The executive of the Sydney branch of the United Steel Workers of Am erica (C.IO.) issued a statement say ing the executive was "in full accord with the action.
NO MAINTENANCE C. M. Anson, general manager of the plant, said the situation was "serious" and "as far as we know no arrangements have been made for maintenance." Mr. Anson requested an immediate conference with union officials and it was expected the union executive and company representatives would meet later today.
One blast furnace was cast before some 2.600 workers on the day shift walked out. The union statement said that the 2,400 steel men on the night shift were also involved.
George Macneill, president of the Sydney union, said that he had been in touch with Alphonse Murray, fl- nancial secretary of the steel workers branch at Trenton, N.S., who had assured him of the "backing" of 3,000 steel workers at the plant operated by the same company there.
The union executive statement said that "the inevitable has happened, with resentment at fever heat in protest against what the men must consider an unjust and unnecessary positlon brought about by legality evasions of the majority report of the Barlow commission…."
MAJORITY REPORT (The majority report of the Barlow commission recommended that, with the exception of maintenance workers, basic wage rates at the Sydney plant and the Algoma Steel Corporation plant at Sault Ste. Marie, Ont., remain unchanged. A minority report supported the steel workers' demands for a basic rate of 55 cents an hour.)
"We, the central executive, are in full accord with the necessity for the men taking such a drastic step," the statement continued.
"The men have already proven their willingness to increase the war effort; they have made many sacrifices, but they are firmly convinced that no country can give the principles of democracy to others without main- taining these essential principles a home.
A perusal of the minority re port as compared with the majority findings leaves little for the imagination as to legalistic evasion.
ALL SHIFTS "The walkout this morning will affect all shifts of the plant and special department committees are at work in union headquarters. maintaining . the complete order that has characterized the stoppage since the beginning."
Mr. Anson issued the following statement:
"The men just walked out. The company received no notification whatsoever from the union regarding the strike. The company has asked the union executive for an immediate conference. It is a serious situation - as far as we know no arrangements have been made for maintenance."
The union executive also conferred with Mayor Jack MacLean of Sydney and recommended that the stores operated by the Nova Scotia liquor commission in Sydney be closed during the strike.
AT THE SO0 SAULT STE MARIE, Ont. Jan. 12. -Mayor Jack McMeeken told Prime Minister Mackenzie King and Federal Labor Minister Humphrey Mitchell in a telegram today that "unless you in- tervene to adopt the minority report (of the Barlow Steel Commission) before 7 a. m. Thursday, a most grave situation will arise in the steel industry here."
The mayor's telegram, sent with the unanimous approval of the city council, followed reports from Bydney. N. B.. that 3,000 workers on the day shift at the plant of the Dominion Steel and Coal Corporation had gone or. strike in protest against the report which recommended against increases in the basic rate in the Canadian steel industry.
MEET TONIGHT Meanwhile employes of the Algoma Steel Corporation plant here - members of the United Steel Workers of America (C.I.O.) - prepared for a mass meeting tonight at which Union Secretary William Mahoney said action to be taken by the Sault union on the Barlow report would be decided. He had no other comment to make on the strike action taken at Sydney. Operations at the Algoma steel plant continued this morning.
The mayor's telegram, copies of which were sent to Ontario Labor Minister Peter Heenan and George Nixon. Liberal M.P. for Algoma West, as well as Mr. King and Mr. Mitchell, said:
"As head of the municipality of Sault Ste. Marie and with full approval of council, I wish to forcibly draw to your attention the serious situation that exists in this city as a result of the Barlow wage report and feel it is my duty to advise you that unless you intervene to adopt the minority report before 7 a.m. Thursday, a most grave situation will arise in the steel industry here. "I believe that, in the best Interests of not only the citizens of Sault Ste. Marie but of the Dominion, immediate action by your government in favor of the steel workers is of imperative importance."
A majority report of the steel commission - which was headed by F. H. Barlow of Toronto, then master of the Ontario Supreme Court and since elevated to the bench - recommended against increases in basic wage rates at the Algoma plant here and the Dosco plant at Sydney.
A minority report urged granting of the steel workers request for a basic rate of 55 cents and an hour plus full cost-of-living bonus in both plants. The present basic rate at Sydney is 4312 cents an hour and at the Sault 45 cents. A full cost-of-living bonus is paid at Sydney and a partial bonus is paid here.

Session 1, Attack of Jack-in-Irons!
Our Players this Week:
Hog 112, they/them, Weapon Thaumaturge, skirmisher warforged, the leader of the inquisitives agency and founding member, tends toward practicality and following a command structure.
Forward, he/him, Champion Paladin, infantry warforged, Hog’s second in command and founding member, follower of the Legionnaire Creed sect of the Sovereign Host and idealist.
Vestige, they/them, Bones Oracle, warforged placed into a human body, a healer and the agency’s fleshborn face, remains on the periphery with an individualistic streak.
Strategy, it/its, Empiricist Investigator, officer warforged, an old model who’s seen much action and uses the tactics they learned back during the war now under Sharn.
Samanta, she/they, Swashbuckler Fencer, skirmisher warforged, a spotter during the war who turned to spying for one of Sharn’s criminal families before joining the inquisitives agency.
Clever, she/her, Reverie Psychic, psiforged, a young warforged created illegally in an experiment, naive without respect for authority but well-meaning in their endeavors.
——————
A quiet day at the Hog, Forward, & Associates Inquisitives Agency on Washery Street, LLC, interrupted! A letter from one Ash of the Red Hammer urging our inquisitives to spring to action, for there have been eight murders over the past few months. Such a case demands full mobilization of the agency’s best inquisitives: Forward, Hog 112, Strategy, Samanta, Vestige, and Clever. And so the party of forged sleuths sets out to answer Ash’s call.
Blackbones, The Cogs. The district is full of poor forged, goblins, and humans going about their work. No coppers in sight, only private guards protecting the beating hearts of industry. They pay no mind to the unsavory among the crowds, as long as they do not stray too close to the foundries. There’s a hot black dust in the air, the promise of ill f ortune to come. The Red Hammer is part tavern, part smithy, all for warforged. Within, Ash tends to her forge, repairing an armor plate part corroded off some poor fella, probably by the alchemical acids involved in materials refining. Inside is Twelve, an old squad mate of Samanta, talking to some Thranish model. She approaches the old companion, asking about the murders which drew the inquisitives there. They tell of some beast what ripped the bodies apart.
Meanwhile, Forward takes the lead on speaking to Ash. She’s knowledgeable about the case after compiling the various accounts to bring to the Watch’s attention. However, the Watch hasn’t helped, so now she’s asked for the HF&A’s assistance. See, a month ago, Leatherneck was found by Shadowblack, unfortunately dead beyond repair and with both arms ripped off and nowhere to be found. Over the next month, seven more were found dead as well, all torn up and missing pieces: Flame, Voice, Hunter, Bear, Thunderer, Axes, and Hook. Curiously, all these murders were connected in another way, each forged worked for the Tain Foundry. The locals fear a dread specter, Jack-in-Irons, to be responsible for the attacks. Ash directs Forward to speak to Dandy, who found the last victim four days ago, and to Sledgehammer, who also works for the Tains. Forward asks to see the bodies, but they aren’t at the Red Hammer. One Lord Slogar d’Cannith has them, down at the Cannith Forgehold. Lastly, Ash hands Forward a handdrawn map of the murder scenes. They make a rough circle round the Foundry, with Hook nearest.
Hog goes to gather Dandy’s account of the murder. Dandy’s tall, much taller than Hog, infantry during the war, but has since sworn himself to pacifism. Now, he totes a instrument and wears gaudy orange and teal, aspiring to the life of a bard. He stands by a table, motionless except for a quiet shudder, staring down past the floor. “You’re scared,” Hog observes. “Yes, I am,” Dandy replies. “Where did you serve?” “On the northern front with Karrnath.” Hog is able to commiserate, the monsters of Droaam being a similarly fearsome foe to the undead of Karrnath. Then, they ask what Dandy saw. It was in an alley close to the foundry. Poor Hook was torn apart, a whole leg rent from his body by the killer. He caught but a glance at the form, but he knows it was no warforged. It was tall, about his own height, long limbed and humanoid. He fears for his life, having witnessed the act, but Hog 112 reassures him. No one would be fool enough to come for him in the Red Hammer. Dandy offers one more bit of information, Cross was Hook’s best friend, maybe he’d be able to help.
Hog knows of Hook and Cross, members of the Forged Fists both, a group which tends to vigilantism. The gang tussles with foundry guards and Daask alike, doing the street work which their more respectable advocate colleagues cannot. They’ve got some “secret base” in the sewers, which Hog figures shouldn’t be too difficult to locate. “I’m sorry you had to see that,” Clever offers. Hog inquires about what Dandy might’ve heard, being so close to the killer. Dandy answers, “yes, muttering, and when they ran it sounded like metal on the pavement, like armored boots.” “Doesn’t sound like a ghost to me,” Hog remarks dryly.
Meanwhile, Forward finds Sledgehammer and strikes up conversing. Sledgehammer is sympathetic to his cause, showing some interest in the Legionary Creed and meeting Questions. Now though, Sledgehammer sits quiet with an air of conspiracy. They’re watching themselves closely, for all the victims have been their own coworkers. About their neck, they wear a link of chain, which they tell Forward is a charm. The artificers claim it to be magic, a ward to frighten away Jack-in-Irons. Course, Sledgehammer couldn’t afford the one they were selling, and they made this one themselves. It’s a pale imitation of the gold link that Manager Molric took from one of the crime scenes. Forward’s heard some tale of this Molric, that he’s a new dwarf manager as of this past year, and cruel. What he’s doing with a piece of crime scene evidence, Forward can only guess. Guesses don’t solve cases. He’ll need to do some digging on this Moric character.
It falls to Vestige to speak with Shadowblack, their brother not by making, but by sentiment. Outside the agency, few know of Vestige’s true heritage, believing them to be human. Shadowblack is one of the few to know the truth of the matter, and one of the fewer to actually believe it. Shadowblack’s small and lithe, with blackened metal plating and daggers sheathed at his sides. Despite blank features, it’s clear he’s seething with fury, see, Shadowblack is a Blade. “The injustice getting you down, brother?” Vestige asks on their approach. “Certainly is,” he responds in his deceptively quiet voice, the voice of a built assassin, “all the people talking about a ghost are ridiculous.” “True enough.” “Why all around the Tain Foundry?” Shadowblack asks, a question leading to a conclusion. “You suspect a targeted attack?” “The foundry’s warforged killed again and again? Who do you think could be doing that? The guards and Molric can’t be trusted, they’ve been spreading word of Jack-in-Irons. Could make a good cover story.” Naturally, Vestige has come to the same answer, “wouldn’t be the first I’ve heard of corrupt bosses harming our siblings. When and where did you find Leatherneck?”
Shadowblack found her some time after the attack had happened, hard to tell when that was exactly. She was in an alley, probably on her way home from the foundry. That bastard killer had stripped the metal plating right off her, as well as taken one of her eyes right out. Then, the damned Canniths rounded up each of the victims as they died and took them back to the Forgehold. Shadowblack suspects Slogar d’Cannith is behind it, that ass believes the forged ought to be House property. Vestige promises to get the bodies back, so they can be properly honored in death.
Just then, another fellow enters the Red Hammer. Their model is tall and skinny, with copper colored plating, and they carry a sack of clattering metal. Loudly, they ramble on about Jack-in-Irons, terrified of the monster what has come to kill them all. Ash whispers to Clever that this is Copper, the poor forged had been rattled in the Mourning and their sense never returned. Nobody bothers the Mourned fellow as they go about delivering their scrap to Ash.
Hog and Forward go about convincing Dandy to return to the scene of the crime, surmising that he’ll be able to provide more testimony there. The forged initially refuses, but Forward sympathizes with his fear and Hog promises his safety, so he agrees, but only to visit the spot they personally witnessed. Hog 112 offers him a dagger for security, but he refuses it, he’s a peaceforged now, and won’t have any weapon on his person.
The scene of Hook’s death is near within shouting distance of the Tain Foundry where they worked. The inquisitives set to work picking over the scene. The alley is between two warehouses, narrow, with no windows looking in and some bends that leave it quite isolated. The area’s well trafficked, but Strategy is able to pick out some odd activity. One set of bootprints, clearly metal bottomed and Cannith forged, which entered the alley and lingered for quite a while. They’re big too, indicating the owner was tall. The tracks hastily leave the alley after the long time hanging around, but soon the trail is marred by a spell of foul liquid and is lost. Dandy is able to confirm that’s the way the killer fled. Looking around for any other sign, Strategy sees no marks from weapons, but there is a recent scuff on the wall. The mental image that comes to it is some forged being roughly thrown into the bricks. Meanwhile, Hog discovers a single link of golden chain on the ground, and surmises it may match the one Molric wears. The party’s gotta check on that.
As agreed, Dandy goes back to the Red Hammer as the sleuths split to investigate the other crime scenes. Though most find nothing with the locales being old and picked over, Hog 112 finds three links of gold chain and a scrap of black cloth, while Strategy also finds two links of that same gold chain. Reconvening, it’s clear to Forward that the chains are some kind of calling card, a way to take credit for the crimes. However, Hog suspects the chains are bait, as the three they found were spaced in a rough trail. Perhaps the warforged were lured to their dooms with the promise of wealth. The links are sizeable and thick, would probably sell for a tidy profit. With that, Forward tells Vestige they ought to speak to Molric. Though reluctant, they agree. Strategy and Samanta both offer to come along, but Vestige reasons that’d be intimidating. A Cannith heir only needs one bodyguard if they’re walking into friendly territory. So, they pick Samanta come with. Vestige takes off their mask, thus donning their disguise. The two approach the Tain Foundry.
The two are halted by a hobgoblin thug, but Vestige introduces themselves as Andrea d’Cannith and the two are ushered in. It’s blistering hot inside, and the air is bone dry. Warforged mill about, pouring the ingots and carrying the trays. The molten iron glows and runs, fueled by raging furnaces. The thug leads the two right past all that though, up a set of stairs and to the manager’s office. The thug gives the door a good knock and the manager opens it up. Manager Molric’s a dwarf, and he’s got no hair on his head but his eyebrows, bushy and pushed together into a glower that makes his eyes narrow slits. He’s got a link of gold chain, the same gold chain, strung about his wrist, and a knucklebuster sticks a bit out of his jacket pocket. He looks like the type who can fight, and win, if the healed brawling scars are any indication.
Molric’s gotta look of contempt as he glances from his thug, to Vestige, to Samanta as the pair’s introduced. “I didn’t have any scheduled meetings,” he says with a voice what belies suspicion. “This is not concerning your certification, Molric,” Vestige offers. “What’s it concerning, then?” Rather than answer, Vestige makes a big show of looking over at the hobgoblin and shaking their head. Getting the message, the thug leaves with deference. Then, they speak, “House Cannith is concerned by the deaths of eight of your workers. I’m here to ask a few questions.” “Why would House Cannith be concerned about the deaths of eight warforged?” Molric scoffs and crosses his arms. “You’ve heard of Jack-in-Irons, I’m sure. The rumors are getting the warforged into a panic, and if they panic, productivity will fall,” Vestige’s voice remains dispassionate, thought they’re enraged to be speaking this way. Molric doesn’t hide his anger though, insisting there is no issue. The workers are working and the Foundry is guarded. Vestige insists this is negligence and Molrics is about to lose his grasp on the morale, so he resolves to hire inquisitives to look into the matter and send patrols into the surrounding area. Vestige warns him the warforged won’t take kindly to strange inquisitives, he ought to hire local. Molric ignores that suggestion.
Meanwhile, the rest of the party makes busy by asking around the workers and surrounding businesses. Most everybody blames Jack-in-Irons for the killings, and there’s even another testimony about the specter’s tall, lanky figure. However, no other leads present themselves. It’s time to inspect the bodies. When Vestige and Samanta emerge, confirming the gold chain link, the party sets out for the Forgehold.
Cannith Forgehold, an oasis of the higher levels down in the Cogs. It’s clean, well guarded, and doesn’t belong at all. The warforged guard allows the inquisitives inside with no trouble, where they encounter a young woman in the atrium. She’s dressed in Cannith green and greets the party. Clever introduces the Hog, Forward, and Associates Inquisitives Agency on Washery Street, LLC, and Hog produces a business card with proof of registration. Seeing as the whole matter’s quite official, she agrees to let the group inspect the bodies.
The eight of them are laid against a wall, covered in a black silk sheet embroidered with silver sigils. The woman pulls the sheet free, revealing the bodies. Leatherneck, Flame, Voice, Hunter, Bear, Thunderer, Axes, and Hook are all mostly present. Between the lot of them, two heads, four arms, four legs, and eyes and large chunks of livewood and armor plating have been stolen. Strategy notes that all the missing parts were taken with clean, precise cuts. Hog wonders if such skill in dismemberment would require a trained artificer, but it can’t say for sure. Each forged has the same deep stab wound, right through the armor of their chest, which appears to be the killing blow. There’s minimal damage, beside that wound and the stolen bits, and one warforged even has an armblade, still sheathed. All in all, it looks like the killer struck quick and hard, got what they came for, and fled.
Suddenly, a small man, dressed up in glossy blue velvet and wearing a proud Cannith seal barges into the room. He’s Slogar d’Cannith, obviously, and his displeasure is evident. “What is the meaning of this intrusion?” He demands. “We are investigating these murders,” Forward explains. “I did not hire you to investigate.” “Why do you think you’re the only person who cares?” Clever asks with an accusatory tone in her voice. “I and my agents are close to solving this case. I want you out of my Forgehold,” he demands. “These bodies are not your property,” Vestige says, “if you’re almost done solving this case turn them back over to the community.” Slogar dismisses the idea, “if you would like these concerns addressed please make a formal complaint to the House.” Forward suggests that, instead, the bodies could be moved to neutral ground, like the watch office. Hog requests that the group could be allowed to continue the investigation of the bodies under supervision. Slogar doesn’t budge an inch. He tells the inquisitives to send all the appropriate legal documents to his lawyer, then they can inspect the bodies. As the party is escorted from the premises, Strategy feels something is terribly amiss. Slogar’s hiding something.
Stopping back at the Agency, Forward tells the group’s lawyer to open up the legal procedure for seeing the bodies, as well as to involve their contact in the Sharn Watch. Then, the group heads down to the sewers to see the Forged Fists. He knows the way, having been a couple times. In the Fists’ secret base, there are several forged talking. Two spar. Cross is reading the book by Questions. Forward approaches them and asks about the murders. They’re willing to share. See, Hook and Axes were brothers in the Forged Fists both. Right before Hook’s death, they had gotten into a scuffle with Daask, and then they were off to their shift. They never came back. Forward then reveals the gold chain link, and Cross recognizes the thing.
They remember Copper came in to the Red Hammer and used one just like it to pay for repairs. Course, they don’t suspect the fellow. Copper wouldn’t harm anybody, least of all another forged. They probably just came across the gold chain while scavenging. Cross lets Forward know that Copper lives at the Tain Foundry, in one of those closet apartment types, if he wants to ask any questions. Forward asks for the Forged Fists’ aid in protesting the Forgehold holding the victims’ bodies, and Cross agrees that’ll be proper. They also let on that Shadowblack’s close to solving the whole thing. This prompts Forward to rush the party back to the Red Hammer with Cross in tow, fearing what the Blade could be up to.

Notables:
Ash, she/her, proprietor of the Red Hammer warforged tavern. She’s aware of the goings on of the Cogs, but saw the Agency as a last ditch effort to solve the Jack-in-Irons case.
Jack-in-Irons, the specter said to be a serial killer targeting warforged. The story doesn’t quite add up though. What kinda specter makes footfalls?
Leatherneck, Flame, Voice, Hunter, Bear, Thunderer, Axes, and Hook, the poor lot of Tain Foundry workers who met their end and lost their parts in the hot alleys of the Cogs.
Dandy, he/him, saw something we’d all hope we’re past, with the war being done and all. He’s a pacifist and a bard, hopefully this cruel world doesn’t beat him down any more.
Shadowblack, he/him, Vestige’s brother Blade. He’s seeking justice for the murders done against his kin, and he’s sure the fleshborn mean ill.
Molric, he/him, the manager of the Tain Foundry. This bastard is utterly unconcerned for the safety of his own workers, since they’re forged. But is there malice as well?
Slogar d’Cannith, he/him, the Lord of the Cannith Forgehold in the Cogs, has taken possession of the forged victims’ bodies and stifled the investigation. But what does he have to hide?
