Such an incredible experience working w this legend, ‘Uncle’ Jack Charles on the new @abctv series #preppers which airs tonight @ 9pm! I didn’t have a lot to do with him onscreen, but our trailers were next to each other & we spent a good hour and a half just chatting about life in between scenes. He didn’t know me from a bar of soap, but he treated me like an old mate. So funny, warm, generous & full of amazing stories! It was the highlight of one of the best shoots I’ve been involved in! i can’t go on.

i’ll go on.

the irishman wrote that.

i’m so sick of being sick.i’m so sick of being in deep soul ripping pain.

i can’t sleep.i can’t sleep at all. not a wink. a single wink.

i am broken. i am old. so much older than my years. my brain is broken and old. my body is broken and old. i teeter always on the edge of madness of falling into that deep dark abyss from which i shall never come back. i am in so much pain that it seems like that is all that i am made of anymore.

i can’t go on.i’ll go on.

i lie in bed with the sheets pulled up over my head and try not to look at the clock. never ever look at the clock. that’s what they say. i can’t remember who they are but they say don’t ever look at the clock if you can’t sleep. i drift close so close to sleep but it is always it is always just out of reach.many days now. 

i don’t know how many days. don’t count the days. don’t you dare count the days. they say that one too. whoever they are.

my body is exhausted but my mind oh my mind it races around in circles and circles like a child’s toy pointlessly repeating thoughts in circles and more circles without ever coming to rest refusing even now even after all this time without sleep to come to rest even for a moment.

my mind is my enemy.

it tortures me. it stretches me out on a rack it drives nails into me even while it circles and circles it tortures and abuses me and my body my body just wants to rest just to rest even for a little it just wants to rest. but my broken brain will not stop circling. the torture never ceases this crown of thorns grows ever tighter and sharper and there is blood in my eyes there is blood behind my eyes blood inside my mind there is madness behind them and i teeter i teeter and soon i will fall.

soon i will fall deeply into the abyss.

if i haven’t already.

i can’t go on. i’ll go on.

i might be mad already and not know it.

there is pain. so much pain. agony. i have been sick for so long now that i cannot remember what it was like to be healthy or happy or sane.was i ever healthy. i think that i was. i remember that i was once upon a time but my memory is not to be trusted my memory is not clear everything is opaque or black no no it is filthy like a swamp with detritus floating scum floating on the surface and dark oozing things living underneath that i cannot see but that make me shiver with disgust and fear. but once upon a time i could run for hours i could walk for days do endless push ups do things that much younger men and women could not do. 

once upon a time i was strong and i could endure and endure endlessly.

but now.my body is my enemy.

i am my enemy.there are battles bloody battles going on in my mind and in my body there are corpses of thoughts and the things that i once was litter the barbed mined mind field every single waking moment which is every single moment is a horror of my own making though i would not choose to make it i would not choose to live like this to be this broken nightmare version of myself and i want to die but something in me will not quit will not lay down and just end something in me not the fear of death because death could be no worse than this would have to be better than this i do not fear the end but i do fear that it might never end because that something in me that will not just quit.

just stop.

just end.

it’s as if i revel in my own torture as if i take pleasure in my suffering in my madness in my decrepitude as if i have a hatred of myself that runs so deep and so wide that i cannot see a way out of any of it for i am at war with myself and corpses legless armless torn corpses of the things that i thought i knew of the things that i thought that i believed of what i thought that i was what i thought that i would be strewn across the battlefield of my mind of my body and all i want to do is die but i cannot do even that.

all that i know how to do is to endure.

for no reason at all to endure.i have seen the enemy and he is us pogo said.

all of me all of the i’s that make up me is fractured is at war with myself is mine enemy.

my body is mine enemy.

my mind is mine enemy.i am mine enemy.

i am sick.i am sick of body.

i am sick of mind.i am sick of spirit.

and i am so very sick of being sick.

i can’t go on i’ll go on.

the screaming agony in my head.feeling like there is broken glass in my spine.

the vomiting.

the diarrhea.

followed by the constipation.

the weakness of body and mind and spirit.the seizures and the lingering at the edge of the next seizure.

i just want to sleep. i just want to sleep forever and never wake again. if i knew even for a moment that that is what is on the other side i would ended it long ago.

no. that’s not true.

i grew up surrounded by suicide and i have always seen the taking of your own life quitting of throwing in the towel of tapping out. i have nothing but love and understanding for those who have done it but i cannot take the knee i cannot admit to life that it has won and that i have lost.i am and have always been too stubborn too stiff of neck to just let go.

i do not know how to stop.

i have never known how to stop.i can’t go one.

i’ll go on.

and yet.

and yet.

i see no light on the horizon. not the slightest glimpse. i see nothing but darkness and agony and infirmity i see nothing that gives me a reason to stay everything in me everything about me tells me that i am never getting better ever again. even if there are brief respites even if there are moments even if there are entire days in which things are not as bad as they are now they will always and surely be followed by more darkness and more pain and more unnameable suffering.the future is my enemy.

my body is my enemy.

my mind and my spirit are my enemy.

i am in a deep dark pit and i cannot imagine ever seeing anything but the walls of my pit.

i am tired.

i am weary.

i am weary of being weary.and i am sick of being sick.

i just want to sleep.i just want to sleep.

and yet.

and yet.

perhaps my one and only victory.

Continuing to nurture my need for #indigenousstories I hit the play button on #firekeepersdaughter by @angelineboulley and was immediately lost in the story. As each layer of the mystery was revealed, it’s hooks on me dug in and I couldn’t stop listening. It brought back memories of getting my enrollment card and feeling special, but also the memories of rejection because though I was enrolled, I didn’t live on the Rez, so was treated differently. It also made me wonder yet again of the horrors my Grandmother must have endured at the boarding school she attended. She would never speak of it.
