As a dad I have experienced all different emotions when it comes to the connection of my children. No one hands you a ‘How To Parent’ instruction book. I walk with children (mostly indigenous) that live in ‘conditional love’ environments (not all, but some). What I do, isn’t a job. Far from it, (as the saying goes), “if you love doing something, you’ll never work again.” More importantly, I have the opportunity to pass on knowledge and strengthen their cultural identities. The image I took here, represents the unseen faces of youth, and all I’m doing is allowing them start being seen and heard. #youth #theunseenchild #children #letthembeheard #indigenousyouth https://www.instagram.com/p/CW2ZnMMhMHa/?utm_medium=tumblr

Sometimes when not feeling well, we will use different leaves to smoke ourselves. Bear will use a mixture of Eucalyptus, Moreton Bay Ash and Wattle. This helps him with feeling better and connected to culture. #indigenous #smokingceremony #culturalpractices #ancientpractice #aboriginal #connectingtocountry https://www.instagram.com/p/CWqEfSFhpad/?utm_medium=tumblr

I love photographing public places that are filled with a cultural connection. This Skate Park was built on a Songline that hunters sang to know where there were Turtle Eggs at certain times of the year, next to the creek near here. The creek itself is not as inviting anymore and littered with waste. Fairly certain no freshwater turtle lays her eggs here anymore either? I’m so looking forward to the day I can begin my journey as becoming an Emerging Elder of my community. I’ve got enough grey hairs now to warrant it😊👍🏾❤️🤣🤣 Getting older is not a privilege afforded everyone. Wisdom is knowledge in practice, you learn culture by listening to others, you retain it as knowledge and experience it by applying it. Wisdom is the Blessings of passing on of my journey, both it’s success and failures to the young ones. It’s a long path and it’s not easy, but I look forward to the time I can start growing into my leadership as an Elder✊🏾🖤💛❤️💯 https://www.instagram.com/p/CWcSAnDh4JV/?utm_medium=tumblr

This is called a ‘walimada’ (Spear with Spirit) Today I needed to heal, feel strong and communicate with the Old People. I’ll place this upright with the feathers pointing up, so the spirits of the Old People can see it, smell the Ochre on the tip and sit around it to listen to me without judgement. I’m on their Country, but I need their help as my Country is too far away for me to go to and talk to my Ancestors for advice. Feeling a little lost at the moment. #healing #ancestorsspeak #culturalconnections #healingcountryhealingspirit https://www.instagram.com/p/CTR9UZrPbLs/?utm_medium=tumblr

Today is Indigenous Literacy Day. A day that celebrates the wonderful 250+ Languages and Stories that were lovingly spoken and gently taught for 1000’s of years. This is now captured in books and recordings. Take the time to explore a disappearing living source of language through reading.💯🖤💛❤️ #literacy #language #aboriginalaustralia #culture #indigenouslanguages #storytellers https://www.instagram.com/p/CTQwkHIvUhw/?utm_medium=tumblr

So much interesting Indigenous knowledge to share with you. Just love taking moments to breath and chill with my thoughts. Creating some more artworks. I collected these bowls and serving tray from Kmart and wanted to place a design on them. I live respectfully on Quandamooka Country. Also wanted to acknowledge the Turrable and Yuggera Traditional Owners/Custodians that have allowed me to also walk and live on their land😊🖤💛❤️ Disclaimer: Dot painting is not from my Country, so I had to gain permission and sit with Central Desert mob over the years to learn and understand their stories. I want to acknowledge Uncle Peter from the Luritja and Pertame people for his patience and teachings. #indigenousartist #artwork #paintings #aboriginalart #kmart #culture #storytelling #indigenousaustralia (at Wynnum / Manly Brisbane) https://www.instagram.com/p/CSnn3GFBAIy/?utm_medium=tumblr
