Dani Zanoni

Life is all about learning. Many times the lessons we learn come from painful experiences. Local artist Dani Zanoni chooses to take her pain and use to create beautiful music that you can feel. “I like to write about things that really connect with people on an emotional level,” said Zanoni. “It’s okay to feel things. It’s okay to feel broken and lost some times.” Her music is not only about pain she just wants her listeners to know that you shouldn’t feel ashamed of whatever they feel inside.

Besides lyrics filled with passion, this rising indie artist, from Oak Ridge, NJ, has a voice that hits you like a warm breeze on a late summer afternoon. Her song “Facing Reality” is the near perfect mix of vulnerability and positivity. The song is Zanoni finding solace in her music during a rough time in her life. “I was feeling really low. I didn’t know what I was doing with my life and I kinda felt outside of myself,” said Zanoni. “The song came to me and I was like song writing is what keeps me going.” In the song she goes on to affirm that she’s as strong as she can be when facing reality.

Zanoni’s fascination with music began with her singing as a little girl. Over time she began to jot down her feelings and emotions as poems to further express herself. ”It would really be like my therapy,” said Zanoni. Then in high school after getting her first guitar her talent began to flourish as she was able to write and record actual songs. One of her main inspirations for the sound of her music is Sara Bareilles from the hit 2007 single “Love Song”. Alongside personal experiences Zanoni also draws lyrical inspiration from her friends adding another layer of relatability to her girl next door character.

One of Zanoni’s favorite songs that she has on Spotify right now is “You”. It’s a contrast from most of the other tracks she has out currently due to the fact it’s an upbeat song about finding someone you can fall in love with. “It’s talking about finding someone and not realizing they’re their the right person and you’re actually in love with them. Then finally realizing they’re your person,” said Zanoni. Another song you have to listen to by Zanoni is “Maybe”. This song is Zanoni wishing that she could get away from all the stress of daily life. “There’s so much crap going on in this world. So much hate and so much anger and fear,” said Zanoni. “What if that could all go away?” During the chorus of this song Zanoni’s ear pleasing vocals take you to that place. Leaving you to really ask yourself if the pressure of life could be left behind could I finally be fine?
