Head over to my website to read the second in my series of Lavender Castle blogs - part two is titled ‘The Hiccup!’ I also show never seen before images. This character ‘Short Fred Ledd’ is one of the baddies (a proper bumbling baddy at that!) www.rodneymatthewsstudios.com #lavendercastle #rodneymatthews #gerryanderson #gerryandersontv #shortfredledd #pirate #piratecharacter #childrenstv #stopmotion #stopmotionanimation #cgi #cgianimation #fantasy #fantasyartwork https://www.instagram.com/p/BwUKzEEpKSY/?utm_source=ig_tumblr_share&igshid=f04g834alrw4

Not many people know that back in 1994 I was commissioned by Traveller’s Tales to create two logos. You may recognise the traditional one on the left with its olde worlde name style from 90s video games. The futuristic one on the right was for a part of the company that developed new technology. #videogame #videogaming #videogames #videogamers #videogameart #videogameartwork #videogameartist #travellerstalesgames #travellertales #1990s #retrogamer #retrogaming #retrogames https://www.instagram.com/p/BnjoXcqhwJv/?utm_source=ig_tumblr_share&igshid=r7jokk7izug2

Sleepwalking is the cover art for the ninth studio album by the British band Magnum.
In true Magnum tradition, Tony Clarkin sketched out the essence of what he wanted for the Sleepwalking album, and in true Matthews tradition I made a few additions. The mirror shows Tony shaven-headed as he is now and beside it is a wig to remind people of how he used to look.  The suggestion that he ever did wear a wig is purely my own little joke.  Other inclusions are the jets from The Eleventh Hour, the bag and stick from On A Storyteller's Night, certain book titles, the Lord's Prayer scroll, Birmingham City football socks and the nose boil ointment as used by Bob Catley when the cover was being discussed - sorry Bob!
I remember that this illustration took twenty-six days to complete, and, whilst not typical of my style of illustration, it was a challenge I enjoyed.  I also enjoyed several trips to the Magnum studio, where I was able to hear some of the tracks being laid down.
