INDIAN ELECTION COMMISSION ANNOUNCES DATES FOR GENERAL ELECTIONS
The Election Commission for India announced on Saturday the dates for the coming General Elections, to be conducted in seven phases beginning on April 19th.
According to reporting on the announcement, more than 970 million Indians are expected to vote in the coming elections at over 1 million polling stations across the country.
Speaking at a Press conference covering the election scheduling, Chief Election Commissioner, Rajiv Kumar, said elections will run through the 1st of June, with vote counting to be conducted on June 4th.
Acknowledging what he called "major challenges" posed by the elections, Kumar said the biggest concerns were with bribing, threats, misinformation and violations of the model code of conduct for elections.
Current Prime Minister Narendra Modi, who belongs to the Hindu Nationalist BJP Party, seeks a third term, facing a challenge from an alliance of more than two dozen Parties belonging to the Indian National Developmental Inclusive Alliance (INDIA), led by the opposition Indian National Congress Party who held power from the time of the country's liberation from the British empire in 1947, until the BJP's first National election win in May of 2014.
Modi and the BJP, for their part, have set a goal for winning 370 seats in the Indian Parliament, and 400 in total for the alliance it leads.
Previously, in the 2019 General Elections, Modi's BJP Party won 303 out of 543 seats in the lower house of Parliament, its best performance since the Party's formation in 1980.

Happy 10th year of me doing this dorky comic! Hope people don't mind the fact that I haven't really dabbled in Cap stuff for a few years, except for my weird yearly July 4th ritual. On AO3 here, and tumblr tag here. (2022 was about Dobbs, 2020 was about seeing the stars, 2019 was about building new systems, 2018 was about voting, 2017 was about immigration.)
@histrionic-dragon tagged me yesterday and posted a bunch of cool links of ways to help: https://histrionic-dragon.tumblr.com/post/721837010124488704/almost-captain-americas-birthday

Lots of posts out there on the 2023 Minnesota legislative session, but here's the OG tumblr roundup post.
California is trying to divest its two largest pension funds from fossil fuels, but apparently today they decided to table it until next year. :/ I guess more meetings are needed! (productive ones, not ones that could have been an email.)

right winged indians are so (i don't want to utter that word) when it comes to media literacy but all of them literally grew up in godi media so i cannot blame them either. like no one is saying INDI alliance is good. it's just the lesser evil out of the two.

tbh I honestly think american elections have just become anti-incumbent due to the successive and concurrent neoliberal crises (which is what indian elections have historically faced because of the deep socioeconomic dysfunction) and given the unwillingness of any party to do meaningful structural change it’s just gonna be one term red one term blue for a long, long time

I'm going to just say it. If you want BJP to not come into power, regardless of who you support, you need to vote Congress. That's the only way out. Voting left or voting for regional parties that don't have national reach is only going to divide the opposition vote and BJP is going to win - the same way they did in 2019.

Bhai the meltdown of the "hindublr" is so funny 😂. Now they are suddenly realising that casteism is huge issue in India. Just few months ago , they were screaming at the top of their voice going on and on about how Casteism was a very practical practice and it doesn't exist in India or the realm of Hinduism. I am loving this 180 degree palat . I mean this is so ironic , iconic and funny 😂😂.

Any liberal who thinks Biden stands a chance this election and demands that anyone who wants peace in this world need to compromise their values and submit to the authority of the Democratic Party has not learned a single thing about the 1968 DNC rebellion.
You cannot win with a pro war candidate, only peace will land you the election. If you spineless liberals don't want to place this election directly into Trump's hands, then you need to demand the Democrats cease the genocide in Gaza, establish a permanent ceasefire, and dismantle Apartheid, and not only run another candidate in place of Genocide Joe, but one who will end the US sanctioned bombings, killings, and countles injustices in Palestine, Sudan, Congo, West Papua, Tigray, Haiti, and so many more countries across the world. Someone who will end the suffering happening here the stolen land of Turtle Island. You need someone who will compromise with the Left, and steer ,1this country away from dictatorial fascism and towards liberation and decolonization of the failed colonial project that is the American Empire.
You can degrade and reprimand us until your tongue falls off, but unless you demand better from your cherished Blue Corporate Puppets©®™, you will not save anyone. Not black people, not brown people, not queer people, and not even your own worthless hide.
Will you tremble and capitulate to murder and oppression, or will you stand up and fight for the liberation of all people? Will you demand all power to all people? Or will you shrink away and let white supremacy reign free, knowing you'll be spared by your overlords for abandoning your Black brothers and sister, your Native brothers and sisters, your Palestinian brothers and sisters, your Queer brothers, and everyone who has been under attack for too damn long by this cruel empire?
Will you make the right choice?

Honestly, I'd watch any of these movies...
Have a different couple? Add them in the tags (I picked these because they are some of my favorites).

i wasn't originally going to post about the indian elections (after tht ram mandir mess i'm trying to avoid that shit), but faizabad+ayodhya is too fucking funny not to post about.
gotta love how all of the ayodhya residents despite the insane bjp efforts to rebuild the ram mandir over a demolished mosque and run up their crazy nationalist agenda, went, "you bjp pricks are intolerable. goodbye." and fucking showed it.
good for you guys.
