i know it's a popular fandom theory that astarion was a corrupt magistrate prior to his death/turn (which i think was a concept idea in the bg art book? i could be wrong), but i've seen a few other theories floating around that align with the opposite, which i'm kind of leaning towards here. like, he becomes a magistrate in baldur's gate, which is more of a progressive city than most others, with maybe the idea that he can do some good or make certain changes for the better and his rulings kind of start to disturb the status quo, which some powerful people/groups don't like and that eventuates in his murder. i just think it would be sadder for his character, especially since now he has no recollection of who he was prior to being turned into a vampire. cazador really twisted him and his ideals/morals, he goes from this studious, hopeful young man with promise to make his city potentially a better place, and instead becomes understandably bitter and angry, loses his faith, culture, and identity and thinks that the only way to escape the hurt and trauma and reclaim his autonomy is to gain that power for himself and inflict pain onto others.
#anyway here's my daily ramble#i saw a really good post last night that went indepth#about this as a theory and i've LOST it i'm so mad#but anyway i love this trope so hard#𝒾𝒾. the pale elf ᅳ a study.#and the only way for him to avoid the cycle of abuse#is to have the support of his friends#and to be SEEN beyond the facade he's become used to#anyway back to drafts🤺#edit: it's also not to take away from him being an evil lil guy#just some extra flavour for his backstory

i'm surprised i don't hear more people mentioning, quoting, or referring to Smith's study when talking about whitewashing vs "blackwashing" and the impact of these phenomenons—although, particularly when speaking about films. i really recommend reading Whitewashing v. Blackwashing: Structural Racism and Anti-Racist Praxis in Hollywood Cinema by Alyssa M. Smith.
Despite this study focusing on these phenomenons in the context of films and Hollywood, i'd even say that there's points written here that can easily apply to these phenomenons' manifestation in the context of art (⟵ using the less broader definition of "art" here) and the art community itself ^^
#tw racism#sunny.txt#(of course trigger warning for discussions of racism.. even i had to pause cuz i kept getting angry)#i was pretty satisfied with this for the most part even though i thought there would be more points discussed#but then again there were SO much being discussed already so I for the most part am satisfied#Anyways it would be interesting to see in an indepth study on those phenomenons in the context of art (drawings)!!!#it also gets deep into structural racism (aka systematic racism) which is good and deeply satisfying to me)#because definitely the conversation on “blackwashing” when it comes to art is more different because of a few factors#ill try not to get on about that though. Maybeeee in another time. if someone asks i can explain sooner

So this is actually AMAZING and more people need to see this. This was posted by my bestie ANoN- please consider checking them out! They’re my editor for most my works including my fanfics, and we have created a web series together called PARANOiD. If you like my works of art or quirky writing style and the fantastical mind, talent and organization skills of them, check it out here!
PS. They’re available for hiring as an editor as well as willing to be YOUR beta reader ;)
So You Want To Write #1 : The Amazing Digital Circus
In my work with the ever-impressionable and quick learning @mikiib, We often end up working with a particular dynamic on her creative projects, ranging from fanfiction to self-started fiction like our ongoing comic series, PARANOiD. She's a great artist, mind you- I wouldn't work with her if she wasn't- But our lives were spent very differently before we met; She chose a life of drawing, I chose a life of reading.
In this, I'm frequently put into the position of helping her make writing "sing" in the tune of what genre or media property she's drawing from. One of my many talents is my ability to quickly deconstruct and recognize the various influences a writer has taken from in a body of work, and The Amazing Digital Circus is one that I find a lot of people seem to misunderstand it's roots, and the kind of stories it's drawing from. To this, much-despised reader, I come to help, to scream from my digital soapbox the advice I would have needed a decade ago to write something properly.
THE AMAZING DIGITAL CIRCUS: Mr. Elison needs to stop watching PBS
Most casual fans of the Amazing Digital Circus would know that the Harlan Ellison short story "I Have No Mouth And Must Scream" is the conceptual well that ADC draws from. It's one hell of a starting point- for those unfamiliar, a brief recap- The last 5 humans on Earth are tortured and controlled by the A.I Singularity known as A.M, the maniacal, suicidally minded A.I. who, in realization of the inherent trappings of the microchip in his existence, chose to exert his frustrations on the global earth as a whole, leaving only these 5 to torment for the rest of existence as punishment for the sins of mankind.
... Quite a different story on the surface than ADC, no? But to engage with Mouth a surface-level retelling of events deprives the story of it's wit and candor. Harlan, as a writer, is a reader's antagonist- and his contempt for the people who read his stories is palpable.
youtube
Harlan professes, in this interview, an anger towards the concept of self-reverence- the idea that he, himself, is any more significant on this unholy thing we call "earth" than another person. Thus, he reacts to fans by despising them when they reject his jocular, irreverent sense of self as some kind of personal attack. This shows in his writing, if you consider how he views his typical set of characters. In "Big Sam Was My Best Friend", the titular Big Sam, a likable, if reserved teleporter in the far future of space travel is revealed to be a lout, a creep- A man who, when gifted the ability to teleport vast distances unbounded by energy or time, chose to spend his existence chasing a woman who hated him. In "Pretty Maggie Moneyeyes", we have Koster and Maggie: One a down-on-his-luck, pathetic idiot representing the average Vegas coin slot jockey, and the other, Maggie, a rage-filled prostitute who regularly John's for a sleazy mafia boss.
The marking of the Elison school of writing is to defy the status quo expectation of morality winning. Here, the characters are tragic figures driven by their own incompetence and lack of self-awareness- They continuously battle themselves, refusing the luxury and peace of the ordinary to try to shape reality to their will, and every time, reality bites back.
But what does this have to do with The Amazing Digital Circus?
HELL IS OTHER PEOPLE
In the pilot of Amazing Digital Circus, we get to know our selection of trapped souls with a unique lens of understanding that Pomni does not get- For her, these characters of the "Show" of the Amazing Digital Circus (I mean this in a meta sense- More on this later.) are strangers, who's cascading complexities will surely open up with time. But for us, the viewer, we exist beyond the 4th wall- We know we are watching a virtual play, in a sense, where we can expect that there is no dramatic spiritual transition in store for anyone- that whatever we discover will be building on the foundation of each archetype.
But what's unique to both Digital Circus and No Mouth is the reality that these characters know each other quite well- Too well, in fact. They have been trapped together for an unknowable amount of time- and with this knowledge, Pomni is played as the foolish interloper for expecting any more or better from each character.
In a "normal" show, Jax should learn a lesson from the Candy Castle plotline in the first real episode of the show. But in the Digital Circus, Jax CAN'T learn a lesson- because he's done this stupid song and dance a million times, and his reputation precedes him in the eyes of the rest of the circus. He is trapped, figuratively and literally, in his character- He is the cunty rabbit, in and out, because frankly, his own identity might be the only thing keeping him sane.
This is not to say Jax's character cannot change and develop in the space of the canon of the show, or in your own fanfiction writings- far from it- but you need to approach these characters with an understanding that they have been this way for a long, long time- much in the same way that the various psychotic behaviors of the trapped survivors in A.M. have been the same way for a long time, too. To maintain this status quo- this character's "stickiness" as a coping mechanism - is how the soul of Elison sticks through the Digital Circus.
Wait, a stuck Status Quo, with weekly adventures that, at this point, largely don't seem to affect the behavior on a weekly basis for most of the characters, in a bright and shiny animated environment? This sounds kind of like...
A Saturday morning kid's show.
No, Really: Hell IS other people.
This is the missing component people seem to miss about the Amazing Digital Circus- Its aesthetic, its connecting theme, its horror- it's all based on the simple, ironclad premise of a children's show.
Think about it. "People get stuck in a virtual world to solve problems each week meant to help teach them social and practical life skills" is a motif used in a variety of 2000's era CGI animated shows that would air on PBS and (Canadian Broadcast Cartoons). This is "ReBoot". This is "Jay Jay The Jet Plane". This is "Jane and The Dragon". The soft, pliable, safe consequenceless world of the Children's Cartoon is the A.M. Digital World that Caine has his "players" trapped in, much to their chagrin.
At first, this doesn't seem too bad- It's safe, for one. It's remarkably easy to exist in, for another- Food isn't an issue, beyond a simplistic pleasure behavior. There's no bathrooms, no need to sleep- nothing. But in this, the true hell arrives. Week after week, month after month, you continue to participate in "Games" meant to serve the same moral lessons you've heard a million times at this point, as the only break to the skull-fucking monotony of an existence trapped in a consequenceless space where nothing you say or do changes the reality around you. You are stuck in a padded room- where you cannot touch yourself, or others, or the world around you in a meaningful way. It is a gilded cage, that seeks to patronize you and break down your mentality to the point of acting like a monocentric character archetype for the education and entertainment of a captive audience of 12-year-olds with nothing better to do.
You can see how this changes a person's priorities, fast. In this, our Circus members choose to find relief in the only ways they can- with one another, in the only thing that CAN change- their feelings towards one another.
JAX becomes the cunty rabbit he is, because vexing his fellow players is at least some form of change and control for him that makes him feel empowered. Zooble refuses to participate, as their ennui and rejection of the concept of the show enables them to, at the very least, take a stance against Caine, their captor. Ragatha tries to remain optimistic and make the best of the bad situation, as maintaining a positive attitude lets her at least pretend she's making a difference. Kinger's cracked behavior of madness is him attempting to find meaning and test the boundaries of his own existence, as the oldest member of the Circus, in a attempt to break the tedium for himself. And Gangle is reacting with a massive victim complex- She makes herself out to be a pathetic, weak, spineless creature because she can't conceive of this reality being one she has to exist actively in, for she finds the whole effort futile.
Where does this place Pomni? Well, it's a search for her own meaning in the space of the Circus. She is still an "open character", meant to play the role of the Audience's fool- And the drama comes from us wondering whether she'll sink, or swim.
SO YOU WANT TO WRITE THE AMAZING DIGITAL CIRCUS
This is the soul of the show, distilled to a fine, thin gruel- If you want to make your fiction "Sound" Like The Amazing Digital Circus, you need to marry two concepts together- The horrific behaviors of Harlan Elison's characters in their efforts to deal with the ways life has personally screwed them, and the soul-sucking mundanity of the weekly format of the children's television serial. You present the cast with an adventure each week, one that is definitely below their intended age level, and let them react to it with their individualized efforts to escape the mundanity of the circumstances, in their own way- Jax tries to make everything worse, Ragatha tries to play along, and Pomni is still freshly experiencing everything for the first time.
This is not to say you can't do MORE with these characters and the base premise- @hootbon does an excellent job recontextualizing the idea of weekly "shows" with the circumstances of the abusive ringleader of a 1950s-styled circus. But they seem to understand the narrative underpinnings of the TADC in this rewritten examination; The cast is chained to the premise, and can only act within the dimensions of said premise- and what they do with those circumstances defines them as a person.

An indepth analysis of various Spocks using scales of Cuntiness and Bitchiness
TOS Spock
A category 10 quake on the Cunter-scale, has a PhD in cuntology. So cunty it breaks the meter, levels of cunt unimaginable to the ordinary man it cannot be categorised. The needle is spinning out wildly because his cuntiness cannot be measured by the usual metrics.
Highly Bitchy, but in a controlled way. Will lash out when put in situationsTM or placed with Doctor McCoy. Will tone down on bitchiness when comforting his Captain.
AOS Spock
Serving cunt but as a side and not the main course. Is highly cunty but not as much as Spock Prime. Has not has enough screentime to unleash his full Cuntology expertise. I recon he can serve more cunt but I need another movie to prove my theory.
Severly Bitchy, so bitchy it breaks the scale. The first time we see him on screen he is already bitching. Has a Bs, Ms, and PhD. in Bitchology. Putting him with his Captain or the CMO will increase bitchiness to levels that can't even be measured as our scales do not go that high. The bitchiest Spock yet.
SNW Spock
Still a young man and has not completed his studies in the art of being Cunty. In his compulsory heterosexuality fuck boy era but I see potential. Mildly cunty when he is allowed to be. I am confident that his cunt will increase when he learns about eyeshadow, eyeliners, mascara, lipstick and billowing robes.
A moderate bitch, generally nicer and more mild manner than the other spocks but he certainly has his momments. When placed with Sam Kirk bitchiness will increase exponentially over time. I am confident that overtime as his exposure to humans increases his bitching abilities can be properly honed and weaponised.

Enemies to Lovers scenario with Astarion; The two are close enough to be friends, Tav accidentally calls him starlight, you decide how Astarion reacts to their little slip up.

summary:
‘It is bitter,’ he says. ‘It will heal,’ you tell him. ‘It might hold a grudge,’ he says. ‘It will survive,’ you insist.
The Grymforge Guardian falls with little regard to its creator. Steam billows from the cool metal, and the Forge has broken pieces off of it that may never be repaired. You sag against the lever for but a moment to catch your breath. You wait for the ground to cool and the red-hot metal to return to a more natural color before tentatively touching your the toe of your boot to it. You decide it's cooled enough.
You race over to the second lever. Shadowheart is quick to make it to the center to check on Karlach who is lying next to the Guardian in a bundled heap, but you race to Astarion’s side and kneel next to him on the smoking platform. He’s resting against the other lever, head forward, and everywhere you touch is bruised and sweaty. You push his curls back from his forehead and cup his jaw so that he’s forced to look at you, and although the flickering of his eyelashes makes your stomach ache, he’s breathing and that’s good enough for you for now.
You push your hand against his shoulder and feel the heat leave his body to meld into yours. Astarion’s lungs fill with air in relief, and when he opens his eyes, he meets your gaze unevenly.
‘Don’t rush, starlight,’ you say cautiously. ‘Take it easy until Shadowheart can come to you.’
Astarion’s eyes soften and he closes them quickly to hide the betrayal. All around him lay the bodies of the imps he fought. Honestly, the team you put together handled it pretty well with little to no practice, navigating as one despite the strange levers and a gargantuan thing swinging at them. You thank the gods for giving you Karlach, because the thought of you potentially having to go head to head with the Guardian by yourself almost makes you wish the worm would finish eating your memories.
You take in all of Astarion’s wounds. Little bites and nail scratches, a bruise on his cheekbone, but mostly, the heat has made him malleable and exhausted in your hands. You take it upon yourself to heal some of the more minor injuries he has. He doesn’t seem to breathe as you pour a drop of your potion into a bite on his shoulder or a nasty burn on his thigh, but he does stop you before you can take a better look at his cheek.
‘I’m fine,’ he says shortly.
‘Are you sure you don’t want me to tend to this?’ you ask.
You do touch his bruise then, and Astarion hisses at you like a wild beast. Before, you might have flinched away from his scary display but after these last few weeks, you know better. He’s scared of your kindness. He doesn’t know what to expect even though your hand is delicate. You press your thumb against a tender purple knot, and you can tell that it takes all of Astarion’s willpower to not snap at you.
‘Maybe I will let Shadowheart take care of this one,’ you say nervously. ‘It seems tender.’
Astarion’s jaw clenches. He thinks.
‘No,’ he says with finality. ‘I think — I think I would prefer it if you did it.’
You watch the pretty curve of his neck bobble when he swallows. He turns his chin towards you and refuses to look at you. He’s being brave. He’s being willing. Slowly, you touch the bruise again with shaking fingers.
In a move that reminds you all too much of Scratch and the Owlbear, Astarion leans his head into your touch. You’re captivated by the tremble in his eyelashes, the slope of his eyebrows as he fights a scowl, and the sad way he frowns. You feel his cheek for any sign of the unordinary, but there’s nothing but a bruise.
‘I don’t think a potion will help with this one, unfortunately,’ you whisper. ‘There’s nothing — There’s nothing wrong with it.’
‘It is bitter,’ he says.
‘It will heal,’ you tell him.
‘It might hold a grudge,’ he says.
‘It will survive,’ you insist.
Astarion says nothing. If the bruise is hurting him, he doesn’t acknowledge it. All he does is rest in your hands as if lifting his head on his own is too much effort. You allow him this touch. It’s the first time he’s allowed you to initiate anything even remotely affectionate. It makes your eyes water a little to think about it. You decide to say nothing lest it embarrasses him. You cherish this moment and slowly, you ease him into your arms more so that he’s leaning against your upper body, his ear at your heart.
Quietly, Astarion says, ‘Say it again.’
At first, you aren’t sure what it is that he wants. You want to tell him that he will heal, that he will survive, that he may not forgive or forget, but that he will overcome. Instead, you pet his hair as carefully as you can to avoid jostling him and press a tentative kiss to the top of his head. He burrows deeper into your arms and sighs like a weight has been lifted off his chest. In some ways, you think it has. You hold him as gently as you can.
‘You’re going to be fine, starlight,’ you say — and you’re partially shocked at how easily it rolls off the tip of your tongue. You’re almost certain that Astarion huffs at it, but he isn’t upset. No, it’s something entirely else.
You’re holding something delicate in your hands. Astarion would not be like this with anyone else but you. He trusts you, and honestly, the thought terrifies you. It’s not that you have to be careful. It’s not that you have to be cognizant. It’s that there is something so genuine about the bond he is offering you on his own terms. He is choosing to be vulnerable with you. It makes your throat close up.
You would cry if you weren’t so worried about everyone. Astarion eventually pulls away from the safety of your arms and appraises you himself. He smudges smoky residue away from underneath one of your eyes and takes a look at a nasty cut you received to your scalp, but all it takes is a little drop of the potion shared between you to get it to where it doesn’t need stitches. You two sit facing one another, your hands meekly in your lap, Astarion sagging forward as though his only desire is to find a bed. Eventually, he looks up at you and with faint exhaustion clouding the openness of his features, and chews on his bottom lip.
‘You can say it again,’ he says.
You smile for the first time in hours. ‘Alright, starlight.’

Fuck it,
👒Strawhat sex headcanons
cos I'm absolutely on deaths door sick rn and I just wanna drabble my thoughts
🔞 Minors DNI 🔞
Luffy
Ace and entirely ignorant of anything. Come on now, you saw him on Amazon Lily. Next!
Zoro
Fucks, but half the time leaves lovers unsatisfied. Falls asleep immediately so he doesn't even see their grumpy pout. Bisexual but leans towards men
Loves to deep throat, giving and receiving
Always rough
Pretty even spilt between top and power bottom
Loves impact play, giving and receiving
Loves public sex, will absolutely keep going if he gets caught. Same goes for masturbation, even if Sanji starts kicking the shit out of him while he's still going
Nami
Gay gay lesbian gay. Loves those ladies! Big fan of tits especially
Fingerbangs like her life depends on you cumming. Call her the Squirtbringer TM
Loves to use toys on her lovers, especially vibrators and butt plugs. Loves to see her girl with a pretty sparkly diamond plug
Kinda vanilla otherwise though
Top for sure
Ties some absolutely stunning shibari
Usopp
Straight but what a ally fr. Respectful AF
Gets flustered so fucking quick if you flirt with him though so you'd have to be so fucking foward to get him in bed. You'd have to be practically riding him before he stops being a blushing mess
Actually pretty good in bed though, decent size and stamina. Never misses hittin that spot yah know? 😎
More vanilla than angel cake though, and will absolutely chicken out if you ask him to spank you
Talks big talk though. Good with his mouth at both ends
Switch but don't expect him to be a dominant top
Doesn't know the meaning of a quick fuck, this man ✨️ makes love ✨️
Sanji
Straight, for sure, don't mention that time with the waiter boy, or that time with that very muscular male customer, or that time when he-
Anyway *cough* loves having anything in his mouth. Practically begs to have his face sat on, can absolutely cum untouched from that alone. Sometimes gets so into it that he forgets he's supposed to put it in at some point and just ends up eating you out for literal hours till you have to literally rip him off
Don't mind the blood nose :P
Cums so quick once he's in that its frankly embarrassing, but he'll keep going after, for you~
Walk him like a dog 🐕 this boy is a BOTTOM
Absolutely has a praise kink
Needs it to be romantic every time or he WILL pout. He'll give you a quickie if that's really what you want but he prefers to take his time, set the mood, make you a nice cocktail and light some candles
The first time you play with his ass he'll act like he hates it, but then he'll end up shyly asking you to do it again
Wants zoro to destroy his ass
Chopper
MINOR, NEXT!
When he grows up tho... he is a deer... he likes deer... maybe a mink would be ideal actually
Robin
Oh she for SURE fucks
Pansexual but prefers older lovers
Loves to be a soft dom, big time into forcing orgasms out of her partner and teasing them
Open relationship with Franky, loves to play good cop bad cop with him and a sub (with her as good cop)
Abuses her devil fruit for sure, turns her partners into overstimulated, fucked out messes
Loves to ride faces but is also very skilled at giving blowjobs
Has no issue eating ass
No kinks are taboo to her even if she's not into it, she'll give everything a go though, for research
Really skilled with shibari, shares notes with Nami all the time
Reads a lot of bodice rippers and quite literally takes notes, like she fully has a notebook of things she wants to try and is working her way through it
Doesn't really care about getting off, she mostly just likes to watch other's get off. Sex is one big research project to her and shes more than happy to study
Franky
About as fucked up in bed as Wire, biggest deviant of the crew for sure. Wano afterparty you bet they had a long indepth conversation to compare notes, and Wire was happy to show Heat off for him and Robin
Bi with a preference for women
Has all manner of toys and furniture, probably made most of them himself
Usually a hard dom, but unlike Wire he has no problem being a bottom as well
He is a ride you will not survive, your wheels will come right off
Loves risky public sex (fic coming soon 😎)
You better believe when he rebuilt his body he gave himself the biggest dick you'll ever see, its ribebd for your pleasure and it ABSOLUTELY vibrates
Don't expect to be able to walk afterwards, but he's an aftercare king 👑
Brook
May not have the facilities to get off, but still enjoys watching
Often watches Robin and Franky, especially if they're playing with a sub. Sometimes he'll join in with a toy because he's hesitant to push raw bone against a lover (ha, bone) but usually he just watches
Plenty of imagination though, sometimes he'll tell Franky and Robin what to do, more in a suggestive way than a dominant way
I imagine he would feel sexual enjoyment the same way one might enjoy a good cup of tea. He may not be able to get physical relief but he still enjoys the mental tingle
Before he died he was a massive slut though, rockstar vibes, every carnal disease you can think off. Was big into having his face ridden and sex under the influence
Too old to understand labels but if you really took the time to explain he'd probably say he was pansexual
Jinbei
This one goes out to my homie 💖
Straight but has no problem with it if swords happen to cross. Which is just as well, since there's canonically two of them 🍆🍆 He'd also never suggest a threesome, but he'd say yes if you suggested it
Also enjoys watching along side Brook. They call it "Oldies Night" when the four of them get together to watch Franky and Robin destroy some sub
Super respectful! Will constantly make sure you're comfortable and allow you to guide him to do whatever feels best
Not big into kinks but happy to explore them if it makes you happy. Won't do anything that'd inflict pain though, even if you beg for it, he's too big of a softie
Has that deep generational sense of taboo and shame instilled in him that makes it hard to get him to open up about what he wants. You'd have to have been together for a really long time to get him to be honest. Even so, makes you feel completely comfortable sharing your own kinks and never ever makes you feel ashamed even if he's really not into it
Eventually you'll get him to reveal that he enjoys being edged and cockwarming
Not a big fan of young girls fawning over him cos of his ex-Warlord status. Much prefers women his own age. No real preference for basic humans vs fishmen vs even minks, they're all human in his books
God he's so strong though, given how much bigger he is than most woman he will straight up use you like a cocksleeve if you ask him to, I absolutely would, dear god
Never leaves a partner unsatisfied, but I think he'd avoid giving oral cos he'd be so anxious about his teeth and he never wants to hurt a lover

hello! i hope it's alright to ask you this but i was wondering if you have any recommendations for books to read or media in general about the history of judaism and jewish communities in egypt, particularly in ottoman and modern egypt?
have a nice day!
it's fine to ask me this! Unfortunately I have to preface this with a disclaimer that a lot of books on Egyptian Jewish history have a Zionist bias. There are antizionist Egyptian Jews, and at the very least ones who have enough national pride that AFAIK they do not publicly hold Zionist beliefs, like those who spoke in the documentary the Jews of Egypt (avaliable on YouTube for free with English subtitles). Others have an anti Egyptian bias- there is a geopolitical tension with Egypt from Antiquity that unfortunately some Jewish people have carried through history even when it was completely irrelevant, so in trying to research interactions between "ancient" Egyptian Jews and Native Egyptians (from the Ptolemaic era into the proto-Coptic and fully Coptic eras) I've unfortunately come across stuff that for me, as an Egyptian, reads like anti miscegenationist ideology, and it is difficult to tell whether this is a view of history being pushed on the past or not. The phrase "Erev Rav" (meaning mixed multitude), which in part refers to Egyptians who left Egypt with Moses and converted to Judaism, is even used as an insult by some.
Since I mentioned that documentary, I'll start by going over more modern sources. Mapping Jewish San Francisco has a playlist of videos of interviews with Egyptian Jews, including both Karaites and Rabbinic Jews iirc (I reblogged some of these awhile ago in my "actually Egyptian tag" tag). This book, the Dispersion of Egyptian Jewry, is avaliable for free online, it promises to be a more indepth look at Egyptian Jews in the lead up to modern explusion. I have only read a few sections of it, so I cannot give a full judgment on it. There's this video I watched about preserving Karaite historical sites in Egypt that I remember being interesting. "On the Mediterranian and the Nile edited by Harvey E. Goldman and Matthis Lehmann" is a collection of memiors iirc, as is "the Man in the Sharkskin Suit" (which I've started but not completed), both moreso from a Rabbinic perspective. Karaites also have a few websites discussing themselves in their terms, such as this one.
For the pre-modern but post-Islamic era, the Cairo Geniza is a great resource but in my opinion as a hobby researcher, hard to navigate. It is a large cache of documents from a Cairo synagogue mostly from around the Fatimid era. A significant portion of it is digitized and they occasionally crowd source translation help on their Twitter, and a lot of books and papers use it as a primary source. "The Jews in Medieval Egypt, edited by: Miriam Frenkel" is one in my to read pile. "Benjamin H. Hary - Multiglossia in Judeio-Arabic. With an Edition, Translation, and Grammatical Study of the Cairene Purim Scroll" is a paper I've read discussing the Jewish record of the events commemorated by the Cairo Purim, I got it off either Anna's Archive or libgen. "Mamluks of Jewish Origin in the Mamluk Sultanate by Koby Yosef" is a paper in my to read pile. "Jewish pietism of the Sufi type A particular trend of mysticisme in Medieval Egypt by Mireille Loubet" and "Paul B Fenton- Judaism and Sufism" both discuss the medieval Egyptian Jewish pietist movement.
For "ancient" Egyptian Jews, I find the first chapter of "The Story of the Jews: Finding the Words 1000 BC-1492 AD” by Simon Schama, which covers Elephantine, very interesting (it also flies in the face of claims that Jews did not marry Native Egyptians, though it is from centuries before the era researchers often cover). If you'd like to read don't click this link to a Google doc, that would be VERY naughty. There's very little on the Therapeutae, but for the paper theorizing they may have been influenced by Buddhism (possibly making them an example of Judeo-Buddhist syncretism) look here (their Wikipedia page also has some sources that could be interesting but are not specifically about them). "Taylor, Joan E. - Jewish women philosophers of first-century Alexandria: Philo’s Therapeutae reconsidered" is also a to read.
I haven't found much on the temple of Onias/Tell el Yahudia/Leontopolis in depth, but I have the paper "Meron M. Piotrkowski - Priests in Exile: The History of the Temple of Onias and Its Community in the Hellenistic Period" in my to be read pile (which I got off Anna's Archive). I also have some supplemental info from a lecture I attended that I'm willing to privately share.
I also have a document compiling links about the Exodus of Jews from Egypt in the modern era, but I'm cautious about sharing it now because I made it in high school and I've realized it needs better fact checking, because it had some misinfo in it from Zionist publications (specifically about the names of Nazis who fled to Egypt- that did happen, but a bunch of names I saw reported had no evidence of that being the case, and one name was the name of a murdered resistance fighter???)
#cipher talk#I find Leontopolis fascinating because after the first time a bunch of Egyptian Jews built a temple in Egypt a second guy did it#And allegedly had a not terrible scriptural justification! And the temple lasted for THREE EXTRA YEARS after Jerusalem was sacked!#Never let anyone tell you there was only one temple#There's also other stuff but this is what I immediately had#Some books I have I'm pretty sure just aren't good to start with lmao they're about very specific stuff#Modern Middle Eastern Jewish Thought: Writings on Identity politics and culture is interesting and includes Egyptian Jews#But it's definitely got a zionist bias. It's mostly essays#I'd definitely recommend reading up on Joseph Cattaui and Murād Farag because they were simply so influential#Even though Farag was a dumbass that wrote the first Arabic defense of Zionism#Ya‘qub Sannu‘ is also fascinating- he spent a lot of his time defending Muslims to European audiences so some people assumed he reverted#He didn't he just took a hard stance on it. Also he got exiled for criticizing the Khedivate#All 3 are in MMEJT iirc

As a veteran fangirl who only got into aot 2 years ago. I have been a massive fic reader for many fandoms over the years but the sheer number of long, detailed epics in the eruri fandom needs to be studied.
The number of long cinematic fics with indepth world building that are crafted with sheer love and respect for the characters in this fandom is incredible. Usually a fandom is lucky to have few that becomes classics but there seems to be one in every corner here.
I am very grateful for your Tumblr which has been a massive archive of knowledge and guide to navigating this fandom.
Thank you so much Anon ♡ I didn't originally intend for my blog to become the Eruri archive when I first got into the series in 2015, but 9 years and 23K posts later, here we are!
You're not the first person to be struck by the sheer range of incredible writing in the Eruri fandom, to say nothing of the fanart. We've been blessed by so many amazingly talented writers over the years, and one of the most amazing things is that they just keep coming. Many people predicted the demise of the Eruri fandom when Erwin died, when the manga ended, when then final anime episode aired, but the fandom is still thriving and new writers are posting fic every month.
However as you rightly pointed out, it's not just the quantity of the fic that's remarkable, it's the quality of the writing, the characterisation and the world building. I have a few of my own theories as to why that should be. First of all the canon material is a gift. Erwin and Levi are both mature adult characters with considerable depth and nuance and their canon relationship (regardless of whether you view it as romantic or not) is intertwined with the plot. It doesn't hurt that both of them have tragic backstories and then of course there's Erwin's internal conflict, heroic sacrifice and Levi's determination to fulfil vow. Honestly what more could you ask for from a ship?? It's no surprise that 3 of the 5 most popular manga chapters chosen by readers of Bessatsu Shonen manga focus on Erwin and Levi's relationship. They really are just that good.
I also think that because Erwin and Levi are both adults, rather than typical teenage shonen protagonists, that they attract a slightly older fanbase. That's not to say that younger fans can't be amazing writers of course, many are, but I think older fans often have a range of life experience that they can bring to their writing. Also I know for a fact that there are many Eruri authors who have successful professional careers and are published authors in other fields including technical writers, academics, researchers, historians, poets, journalists and more.
I've lost count of the number of times I've heard fans say that the Eruri fandom has spoiled them because of the quality and range of the fic and art, and honestly, it's hard to disagree. I regularly re-read fics that were written a decade ago and the characterisation is still pitch perfect. Some of them even pre-empt canon events that appeared in the manga years later. At the same time, I'm discovering new authors every week who are writing heart breaking fics that provide new insight into these characters who I've loved for so long. The Eruri fandom really is one in a million and I'm very grateful it's been such an important part of my life for so long. I'm glad you're able to enjoy it too ♡

HOW OLD IS OUR SOLAR SYSTEM??
Blog#354
Saturday, December 2nd, 2023
Welcome back,
How old is the Solar System? That is a question that cuts to the heart of it all. By studying several things, mostly meteorites, and using radioactive dating techniques, specifically looking at daughter isotopes, scientists have determined that the Solar System is 4.6 billion years old. Well, give or take a few million years. That age can be extended to most of the objects and material in the Solar System.
The United States Geological Survey(USGS) website has a lot of indepth material about how the age of the Solar System was determined. The basics of it are that all material radioactively decays into a stable isotope. Some elements decay within nanoseconds while others have projected half-lives of over 100 billion years. The USGS based their study on minerals that naturally occur in rocks and have half-lives of 700 million to 100 billion years.
These dating techniques, known as radiometric dating, are firmly grounded in physics and are used to measure the last time that the rock being dated was either melted or disturbed sufficiently to re-homogenize its radioactive elements. This techniques returned an approximate age for meteorites of 4.6 billion years and Earth bound rocks around 4.3 billion years. The USGS admits that they were unable to find any rock that had not been altered by the Earths tectonic plates, so the age of the Earth could be refined in the future.
When the gasses of the early solar nebula began to cool, the first materials to condense into solid particles were rich in calcium and aluminum. Eventually solid particles of different elements clumped together to form the common building blocks of comets, asteroids, and planets. Astronomers have long thought that some of the Solar System’s oldest asteroids should be more enriched in calcium and aluminum, but, none had been identified until recently. The the Allende meteorite of 1969 was the first to show inclusions that were extremely rich in calcium and aluminum.
It took 40 years for the spectra of the inclusions to be discovered and then extrapolates to very old asteroids still in orbit around the Sun. Astronomer Jessica Sunshine and colleagues made this discovery with the support of NASA and the National Science Foundation. Additionally, the Universe is thought to have been created about 13.7 billion years ago.
Measuring two long-lived radioactive elements in meteorites, uranium-238 and thorium-232, has placed the age of the Milky Way at in the same time frame. From these measurements, it appears that large scale structures like galaxies formed relatively quickly after the Big Bang.

serizawa !
Sexuality Headcanon:
i think that he is bisexual <3
Gender Headcanon:
i actually really like transmasc serizawa
A ship I have with said character:
sigh. ok. look. i like serirei, i think it can work really, really well if done right. i do not like how a lot of fanon serirei content feels more like a vehicle through which to explore reigen. either its "people projecting onto reigen to put themselves with blank slate big hunky gentle shy guy who will comfort them when theyre sad" or "people who are attracted to reigen treating serizawa as a blank slate to project themselves on because they convinced themselves x reader is cringe". and like obviously its fine, people write stuff for themselves, youre not obligated to write big indepth character studies when youre making ship fics. but theres so much of it and its so hard to find anything thats not that.
also i think dimple x serizawa is underrated ok bye
A BROTP I have with said character:
I FORGOT TO SAY THIS IN THE MINEGISHI ONE i always feel like these two were really close at claw. theres a line that- i cant tell if it's a wonky mistranslation or not- but minegishi says something about owing something to serizawa when they save him and that combined w the fact minegishi wouldve been like 16 when they met and serizawa is good with kids... dies.
like ive heard people say "they mean he owes mob something" but unless its mistranslated "i still owe him one" is directly linked to "i dont want to boss to end his life" when he's catching serizawa so it wouldnt really make sense if it was about owing mob?
A NOTP I have with said character:
sighhhhhhhh ok. i will prelude this with "i do not think it is on the same level as shipping pedo and/or incest shit and it's weird to treat it like it is". seritoi makes me deeply uncomfortable and i do not trust people to be normal with it to the point where will probably block people for posting it.
A random headcanon:
the first time he and reigen got drunk together reigen told him he didnt have powers but he got so fucked up that he completely forgot he said that and serizawa is trying to pretend he didnt say anything and that he'll tell him sober in his own time but it makes it every exorcism so fucking awkward
General Opinion over said character:
i like him soso much like. as someone who was in a very similar "i dont want to leave my house because im paranoid about being hurt and people hurting me" rut for a not insignificant chunk of my life having a character like that who isnt treated as a joke and is treated as a person with feelings capable of growth who solidifies his place in the world and makes friends... man....
