Understanding Domain Rating: A Crucial Metric for Website Authority
In the dynamic landscape of search engine optimization (SEO), staying ahead of the curve is essential for any website owner or digital marketer. One term that has gained prominence in recent years is "Domain Rating." This metric plays a pivotal role in assessing the authority and visibility of a website in search engine results. In this article, we will delve into the concept of Domain Rating, its significance, and its impact on your website's online presence, using examples from the tech-oriented platform, thetechtweed.com.
What is Domain Rating?
Domain Rating (DR) is a proprietary metric developed by popular SEO software provider Ahrefs. It is a numerical score that reflects the overall authority and backlink profile of a website's domain on a logarithmic scale, ranging from 0 to 100. The higher the Domain Rating, the stronger the website's authority in the eyes of search engines. It takes into account various factors, primarily the quantity and quality of backlinks pointing to the domain.
Importance of Domain Rating
Search Engine Visibility: A higher Domain Rating often correlates with better search engine rankings. Websites with a higher DR are more likely to appear on the first page of search results for relevant keywords, driving organic traffic and boosting visibility.
Credibility and Trustworthiness: Search engines, like Google, consider websites with a higher Domain Rating as more credible and trustworthy. This can lead to increased user trust, longer dwell times, and higher engagement metrics.
Competitive Edge: In the fiercely competitive digital landscape, a strong Domain Rating can give your website a competitive edge. Outperforming competitors in terms of DR can lead to more referral traffic and a larger share of the online audience.
Link Building: Websites with a high Domain Rating are often sought after for link-building opportunities. Other websites in your niche are more likely to link to your content, further enhancing your authority.
Case Study: thetechtweed.com
Let's examine the concept of Domain Rating using the example of the tech-oriented platform thetechtweed.com. Suppose thetechtweed.com has a Domain Rating of 50. This indicates that the website has established a solid backlink profile, with quality links from reputable sources in the tech industry.
With a Domain Rating of 50:
thetechtweed.com is likely to rank higher in search results for tech-related keywords compared to websites with lower DRs.
The website can attract more organic traffic, as users are more inclined to click on search results from authoritative sources.
The credibility of thetechtweed.com is enhanced, leading to increased user engagement and potentially encouraging other tech websites to link to its content.
Improving Domain Rating
Boosting your Domain Rating requires a strategic approach:
Quality Content: Creating high-quality, informative, and relevant content can attract natural backlinks from authoritative websites, contributing to your DR.
Link Building: Focus on acquiring high-quality backlinks from reputable websites in your niche. Guest posting, influencer outreach, and content collaborations can aid in this process.
Technical SEO: Ensure your website's technical aspects, such as site speed, mobile-friendliness, and proper indexing, are optimized for a seamless user experience.
Consistency: Building a strong backlink profile and increasing your Domain Rating takes time. Consistency in content creation and link-building efforts is key.
Conclusion
Domain Rating is a crucial metric that can significantly impact your website's authority, visibility, and overall online success. Understanding its nuances and incorporating strategies to improve it, as demonstrated by the example of thetechtweed.com, can propel your website to new heights in the digital realm. By focusing on quality content, strategic link-building, and technical optimization, you can elevate your Domain Rating and establish your website as a credible and influential player in your niche.

All about Domain Authority-How to Increase Domain Rating (Website Authority)Learn more on SEO and how to increase traffic to your website on; https://ecomhardy.com/ Domain Authority (DA) is a metric developed by Moz, a company that provides SEO tools and resources. It is used to predict how well a website will rank on search engines. It is based on a 100-point scale and measures the strength of a website's backlink profile, which is the number and quality of links pointing to a website from other websites. A website's Domain Authority is determined by analyzing a variety of factors, including the age of the domain, the number of external links pointing to the domain, and the overall quality and relevance of the website's content. Domain Authority is important for a website because it is one of the factors that search engines use to determine the relevance and quality of a website's content. When a website has a high Domain Authority, it is more likely to rank well in search engine results, which can lead to increased traffic and potential customers for the website. There are a number of ways to increase a website's Domain Authority, including: Building high-quality backlinks: One of the main factors that determines a website's Domain Authority is the number and quality of backlinks pointing to the website. To increase Domain Authority, it is important to build high-quality backlinks from reputable websites. This can be done through guest blogging, broken link building, and earning editorial links through creating valuable and informative content. Improving on-page SEO: On-page SEO refers to the optimization of individual web pages in order to rank higher and earn more relevant traffic in search engines. This includes optimizing title tags, header tags, and meta descriptions, as well as ensuring that the content is well-written and relevant to the website's target audience. Ensuring a fast and mobile-friendly website: Search engines prioritize websites that load quickly and are optimized for mobile devices. To increase Domain Authority, it is important to ensure that the website is fast and mobile-friendly. Building a strong social media presence: Social media can be an effective way to drive traffic to a website and build backlinks. By building a strong presence on social media platforms and actively promoting the website, it is possible to increase Domain Authority. It is worth noting that improving a website's Domain Authority is a long-term process and requires consistent effort over time. It is not possible to increase a website's Domain Authority to 50 or above overnight. It typically takes months or even years of dedicated effort to significantly increase a website's Domain Authority. If you 19re new to the concept of website authority, it 19s actually a made up metric from SEO tool companies. Now, whether you call it Domain Rating, Domain Authority, website authority, or whatever, they all serve the same general purpose: they try to measure the relative 1Cstrength 1D of a website 19s backlink profile compared to other sites in their index. Now, while some tools claim that their website authority metric can predict a website 19s ranking potential, you should take that with a grain of salt. SEOs generally agree that website authority does play somewhat of a factor in rankings. However, Google ranks pages and not websites. So having a goal to improve Domain Rating is too broad and could actually make you lose focus from your true goal of ranking in Google and getting more organic traffic. By putting the focus at the website level instead of the page level is like painting your whole house just to make your bathroom look good. It might work to a certain extent, but 90% of your efforts actually have no effect on the end goal. Now, the things that cause an increase in your website 19s authority can help you rank higher in Google. And it all comes down to the main thing responsible for calculating this metric. And that 19s links.

Ikemen Prince 4th Anniversary Eve
Gilbert & Azel: The Relationship Unbeknownst to Anyone
Somewhere on a certain day—
Gilbert: "---I've always wondered if the conqueror beast and the sacred beast were one in the same."
Gilbert: "Both being evils of the world that control people and manipulate them as they please."
Azel: "I agree with the evil part. You and I would be better off not existing."
Azel: "We are both nuisances to the world, after all."
Gilbert: "Should we die together then?"
Azel: "You mean kill each other."
Gilbert: "That’s right."
Azel: "Disgusting."
Gilbert: "Agreed."
Azel: "So?"
Gilbert: "Hehe, no need to rush. I've went through the trouble of preparing food and drinks, so why not enjoy it first?"
Azel: "I'm having alcohol, while you're having water?"
Gilbert: "Oh, so you noticed."
Azel: "I am a god, after all."
Gilbert: "More like a con-artist, right?"
Azel: "That's another way to put it."
Gilbert: "Haha, you're not denying it."
Azel: "The title isn't that important."
Gilbert: "Really? I thought you’d be particular about it."
Azel: "Not at all. At least with you, being god or con-artist doesn't matter."
Azel: "I'm just a 'nuisance’ in the end, aren't I?"
Gilbert: "So you realized that."
Azel: "Just how many times do you think I've confiscated the weapons you smuggled into my country?"
Azel: "Can't you stop that? It's increasing my overtime and it's annoying."
Gilbert: "It only takes time because you carefully disassemble the firearms and send them back each time."
Gilbert: "Is that your hobby or something?"
Azel: "Do you want to be called a carefree rich boy?"
Gilbert: "Oh, so it was actually a declaration of war."
Azel: "If you understand that much, then don't bother asking. Tanzanite is the land of the gods,”
Azel: "So you should’ve realized by now that your spies and schemes are powerless in my sacred domain."
Gilbert: "Hmm, that's troublesome."
Gilbert: "It seems I miscalculated how difficult 'cleaning up' Tanzanite would be."
Gilbert: "Or perhaps I should say I underestimated you."
Gilbert: "Tanzanite has the lowest return rate for spies among the major countries."
Gilbert: "Currently you’re the only one from your country that's noticed my plans—No, more like, you're the only one at all."
Gilbert: "I thought that I could gather some information from you by sharing a drink, but..."
Gilbert: "You're quite hard to read. Is this what a god is like?"
Azel: "Donations are always welcome."
Gilbert: "Unfortunately for you, I only believe in myself."
Azel: "I figured as much. Spending time on you could be considered a waste."
Azel: "...Though a free meal does have its value."
Gilbert: "Haha, if you get along with me, there might be even better things in store for you."
Azel: "Not happening."
Gilbert: "Oh, that was an immediate answer. Despite us being somewhat similar."
Azel: "That's just slander."
Azel: "I don't distrust human potential as much as you do."
Azel: "Humanity doesn't need gods or beasts."
Gilbert: "...Is that so?"
Azel: "Want to bet?"
Gilbert: "Sure, sounds interesting."
Gilbert: "Your schemes are like mirages, vague and hard to grasp, but..."
Gilbert: "I'll bet on the foolishness of humans."
Azel: "Then I'll bet the opposite."
Azel: "I'll bet on the potential of humans."
Azel: "They have the ability to cleanse themselves. They can recognize and atone for their mistakes."
Azel: "Make sure to prepare your money, Disaster boy."
Gilbert: "You too."
Some little notes I had:
*: There's a possibility of Azel being older than Gilbert, seeing as he would attach things like (ーくん)-kun or (ーちゃん)-chan to the nicknames he gave Gilbert…That or Azel's was just trying to antagonize him.
**: Alternative interpretation of the nickname carefree rich boy could be 'airheaded/thoughtless young master'
***: Alternative interpretation of the nickname (厄災くん or yakusai-kun)Disaster boy could be 'Mr. Calamity'
I wasn't sure which of these interpretations would fit Azel's dialogue more, so I wanted to leave these notes so that everyone can get a general sense of the word/nickname.

⊹ ࣪ ˖ SUPERPOWER IDEAS — ICE.
Here are some of my ideas when it comes to different ice powers. Of course, as you can see, I’m not very good at creating names for said powers, but hey! What can you do? Feel free to let this inspire you or use for an OC.
༘⋆ Frost — the ability to create frost and, therefore, make the temperature drop and slowly freeze anything that the character touches.
༘⋆ Ice Craft — able to create things out of ice. Weapons, imitations of other inanimate objects. Said objects melt at an increased rate once detached from the user.
༘⋆ Temp — being able to raise or drop the temperatures to extreme levels. Make it so cold that the characters opponent freezes up and stumbles. Heat it so that the opponent bends at the waist to gasp for air as sweat trickles down their spine and makes them think irrationally.
༘⋆ Block of Ice — freezing your body into a literally block of ice. Either parts of the body or entirely. Being frozen over completely renders the character immobile, but a way to combat this is to leave the joints of the character unfrozen.
༘⋆ Domain — a large dome of ice rises from the ground, as big or as small as the character wants it to be, trapping them and their opponent or just their opponent.
༘⋆ Crystallised — anything the character touches turns to crystallised ice. People, objects, animals. If not careful and kept under control the character could crystallise the surrounding area under intense emotions and stress.
༘⋆ Ice Shards — create and manipulate shards of ice with a telekinetic force.
༘⋆ Shatter — turn anything to ice and shatter it out of existence.
༘⋆ Cold Vine — thorny vines made of ice sprout out from the ground or from the user. It can bind, invade the flesh with pencil tip thin appendages.
༘⋆ Cold Delirium — a power that only affects the human brain, using an almost lethally cold temperature to slow down their brain activity and therefore their movements and logical thinking.
༘⋆ Ice Manipulation — create and manipulate ice or turn water to ice and manipulate that.
༘⋆ Frozen Guardian — create a large creature made out of ice, snow, or crystal, with its sole intention to protect the user and fight for them at their demand.

Eating His Prey
author's note: I really wanted to write a fic about Ike, more specifically sadistic and yandere Ike because holy shit it was kinda hot what he was doing sheeeeeesh Summary: Being such a sly (apparently my keyboard wanted to make you slay so you're also very slay) and mischievous little fox you are, you decide to mess around in a wolf's territory. However, you're in for a wild reality check... Contains: degrading oh wow, dom Ike, hes literally using you, and all that spicy stuff mmm
Hunting in the wolf's territory was an adventure within itself, the new terrain and yummy prey was something that you desired very much. Besides, wouldn't be fun to mess around a bit? You are a great predator yourself, enjoying making your prey squeak and cry underneath your arms. You'd drag out their suffering for a good while. It was all fun and games for you.
You are currently traipsing through the forest full of crowded trees, scattered patches of sunlight kissing the grass floor. You finished having a good meal of a rabbit, a cute little thing you almost felt bad for devouring. Your nose quivered, sniffing the air and catching a scent.
Wolf scent. But your senses told you he was away at the moment. You grin, lips pulled back to reveal canine teeth. His little home! Maybe you could get some sort of rabbit shit and litter it all across his home. Maybe you could build a little fort out of sticks for him.
You dart in and out bushes with ease, your feet silently tapping the ground. Your prey hardly ever heard you coming, which was fortunate and unfortunate at once. Unaware little things. Thank god you were an excellent predator and not some weak ass prey!
You find yourself at the mouth of a cave, looking awfully gloomy inside. You sniff once more. Yup, his scent is much stronger here. Without a care in the world, you skip on inside.
It was very dark for a good few feet, your night vision clicking in after a few seconds. Bones lay scattered across the cave floor: skulls, ribs, femurs, arms. Some even arranged in twisted ways, like horrific art. Wolf must be some sort of sick freak. Not like you were anyone to judge. But still. Freak.
But it gradually began to get brighter, and you walk faster, you didn't want to dilly dally after all. You emerge within a bigger room, with a hole on the ceiling like a window. You notice there was no patch of leaves or soft grass for rest (what the fuck does he actually sleep on this hard ass rock? The wolf is literally a psycho) and surprisingly, no weird bone art. Just tallies on the wall, made with his claw you presumed, lining the walls. Several rows after row. What is this? his body count?
Eh. you don't care. You just wanna create a mess out of his home.
You drag some of the bones from the corridor and toss them around. Snapping some in half and creating your own work of art. You giggle as you line up some bones, a picture of a cock on his floor now. Your tail swishes back and forth with excitement. Perhaps you should go back to the riverbed, gather some mud and plaster it all over the wolf's walls. A nice touch to such a bland room.
You turn your head and freeze. Your heart rate increases.
The wolf himself is here, staring you down with golden eyes. Glowing from the darkness, expression blank as he watched you. Caught-red handed. How long was here there anyway? How did you not hear his entrance? as for the smell, his scent was all over the place, and it is very strong. Luck was simply not on your side.
"Well well well," the grey wolf chuckles darkly, sending electricity down your spine. Instinct told you to run your ass out of there, but you froze, out of fear. "What's a little fox doing here in my domain? Wrecking my home, hm?"
You say nothing, eyes glancing behind him. The only exit. A laugh, as he approaches still.
"Since we are going to get very acquainted, my name is Ike Eveland," the wolf says cheerfully and you furrow your brows because what the hell? "And now, answer me this: what gave you the idea to come here? Death wish?"
"...b-because i wanna," your shaky voice replies and you clear your throat. You straighten your body and stare back at him, never backing down. Not too some puny wolf. "I go wherever I want."
Ike tsks at you, stalking closer. "Now now, I like the confidence yes, but do you realise your situation, dear?" He smiles, sharp teeth bared. "I'm going to eat you alive."
Finally, he launches himself at you, claws glinting in the sunlight. Immediately your legs tense and push you, sprinting below him out of the room and into the corridor. Your heart roars in your ears as you run as far as you possibly can out of the cave, breathing heavily.
What a fucking insane little shit! He was definitely a bit smaller than other wolves you met, but something about the way his sinister gaze sent shivers down your spine. You hated to admit it, but the wolf was actually pretty intimidating. His eyes were such a lovely shade of gold though...
You shake your head and keep running, hopping through a small river to make him lose your scent. You turn towards another direction, toward the familiar big tree you liked to lean against when you wanted to think. It was a good distance from the wolf's territory, so you should be fine. Besides, why would Ike come all the way over here for one silly fox? Heh.
You arrive at the foot of the tree and plop down, regaining your oxygen. Damn, you've never ran so much in your life. You curl your fluffy tail around you, plucking out leaves. Your beating heart slowed a bit as relief flooded your veins. That was simply a vibe check from the gods above. You have learned to stay away from there in the near by future, because if you went there again, you wouldn't have a future.
You lean down with the balls of your hand on the grass, stretching with your ass in the air and felt every bone crack in your back. You sigh contently. It has always felt good to do that after a run.
Your ear twitched and a sound of rustling bushes interrupts your stretch. You sit back, suddenly alert. You sniff the air, but only smell your wet fur. You survey your surroundings, and seeing nothing. A squirrel? However, you stayed cautious and kept your ears open.
While you were cleaning your teeth, another sound, the noise of a twig snapping under a huge weight. It is closer to you than before.
With no warning, you high-tail it out of there, not even turning to see who it is because you could already tell by that menacing aura alone. The grey wolf is hunting you.
"Go away!" you shout, shooting through bushes and swerving around thick trees. "Go find some dumb rabbit to devour!"
"You're much more intriguing!" Ike calls, and you're startled by how you can't hear his footsteps and yours is loud as shit. "Let's play a game, huh?"
"I don't play no games!" You snap, diving into a fox hole made from another fox and scurrying through the small tunnel. He couldn't get through because he's too large! ha!
"It'll be fun!" He calls from outside the tunnel. "Let's play hide and seek, little one!" Ike sings, and you find it oddly pretty.
Dude, really?
You shoot out the other end and continue sprinting. Fuck out of here with that hide and seek nonsense!
"I'll be the seeker," Ike says from behind, startling so much you almost stumble. "I'll give you some time to hide!"
His voice fades and you glance over your shoulder. Gone. Kapoof. Finally, holy shit, his presence was getting annoying as shit. Wait. Is he actually going to play hide and seek?
You curse in your mind, running as far as your legs could carry. You pause, chest heaving as you breath rapidly through your mouth. You turn in a circle, attempting to find a good hiding spot. You spy a big tree with a hollow center, obscured by a flower bush. It is right by a river too!
You dive into the hole without delay and try to rein in your breathing. You quickly adjust the bush so it didn't look like it was rammed through. It was not long before you felt that ominous presence again, your tail poofing up instantly.
"Little fox, where are you?" Ike coos from a good distance away. You cover your mouth with both hands. "You're a sly thing, huh? Walking around my own territory like it was your place. Now, it's time to make sure you learn your place."
You press yourself against the wall so hard, the grooves start to imprint on your skin. You're starting to regret your decisions. It seems like the wolf will never let you go until he captures you. You silently pray to whatever gods were listening.
Turns out they were not. They said screw you kiddo you're on your own.
"I will find you," Ike promises, his voice a tad closer. "I can feel your heart. So fast. Am I making you nervous?"
You grind your teeth, stopping yourself from growling. This cocky bastard.
"I tend to get that reaction a lot. I didn't think I was that horrifying, being on the smaller scale," Ike says and you roll your eyes because who the fuck asked? "I give off threatening vibes, supposedly. that's what the last one said anyway."
Huh?
"The last prey I had," the wolf continues, almost as if he just read your mind. "You must've seen the lines on the walls. All animals I've killed and perhaps devour. Sometimes, I kill for the fun of it and leave the carcass for other animals. Oh, how thrilling it is, watching the blood seep onto the floor and the life draining out of their eyes!" Ike sighs and your blood goes cold because it's outside your hiding place. A big hand reaches out to touch the flower in front of you. "Their blood, such a pretty shade of red just like this poppy."
The hand snakes out like a viper and snatches your ankle and you yell, kicking at him but he drags you out of the tree. Still kicking and screaming bloody murder, you kick his face in sheer desperation. His head turned toward another direction but his hand still latched onto your ankle.
"That wasn't very polite," Ike says, his gaze on you and you still. "What's wrong? Sad because you lost?"
"No way!" You claw at his hand but he doesn't budge. Just watches your pathetic attempts. "Let go!"
He leans in close to your face and you halt your actions. His breaths on your face as the wolf holds eye contact with you. The flecked color of brown in his eyes are mesmerizing to look at, entrancing. You swallow hard. Ike's hand slides from your ankle to your knee, to your thigh, sending goosebumps across your skin. He squeezes, his nails digging in slightly and you wince.
"No. You're mine to play with now, cute little fox."
Something about the way his voice went lower, or was it the hand movement? made your heart beat faster, and not in a frightened way. The wolf's hand travels to your hip and your breath hitches, still staring into the eyes of your enemy. The hand goes all the up from your arm, feather light, skins your collarbone and finds itself a new home on your neck. Wrapping his fingers around your delicate neck, Ike begins to squeeze lightly. Still looking down at you with those pretty eyes, hovering over you with such a smirk on his lips.
Ike stops squeezing, evidently surprised. He sniffs the air, but still a hand around your throat, his nose dipping lower. His nose bumps against your thigh and he growls low in his throat, yanking your legs apart. You squeak.
Arousal. Pure arousal, glittering in the light. Ike stares for a moment, still sniffing. His gaze slides back up to you and you stop breathing.
"Little fox..." he says quietly, and excitement jolts up. "Are you... aroused, right now?"
You don't respond, a bit ashamed. Why the hell were you getting horny for the man about to kill you? Who in their right mind-?
You gasp as you feel a hot mouth against your pussy, lapping up the juices with a shocking pace. You whine, struggling to get away but both his hands are on your thighs now, keeping you spread open and down on the grass as he ravaged your pretty little hole.
You tasted so fucking good, more than he could ever imagine! His nose bumps your clit as his tongue glides in and out of your wet hole, making squelching noises. You moan loudly, digging your nails into his scalp as you push him into you. Ike growls, sending more electricity up your spine. His teeth grazes your clit as he suckles the bundle of nerves and you gasp.
"Oh fuck fuck fuck- mph!" You cover your mouth, attempting to muffle your embarrassing sounds.
The wolf stops, narrowing his eyes at you. "Who said for you to hide those pretty noises?"
You bite your lip, legs squirming as the breeze hits your pussy. "I-I, well..."
"Keep our hands. Off. If you do so again, I'll make sure you never do it again, do you understand?"
You nod quickly, getting even more aroused by his threat and you subconsciously think, 'what the FUCK' and he smirks.
Ike eats you out like a wolf starved, fucking and teasing your hole with such accuracy you start to see stars, and watching him eat you like you were the best meal he ever had turned you on even more and you felt your walls clamp around his tongue.
"Good slut," Ike whispers against your clit, sucking on it for a brief moment before sinking his teeth into your thigh, making you yelp. "Horny little thing, for a predator who was going to devour you whole..." the wolf chuckles.
Your slick slathered across his face, buried in you, legs over his shoulders was a sight to see. You moan, "a-ah! Mmm, right there, t-there!" Your toes curl, eyes rolled back as the orgasm comes over in waves, making your body shake from pleasure as you release soft whines. But Ike isn't done, he's just getting started.
A finger pushes itself into you and you gasp yet again. It explores your walls, tickling that one spot. Then another is added, and Ike slowly pumps his fingers into you, watching with fascination as your pussy eagerly swallows his digits. Pulling him in.
"What a fucking whore," he notes, flicking his eyes up at your flushed cheeks and the drool leaking down your chin. "I haven't even put my cock in you yet."
Your walls squeeze around his fingers at the sentence and he laughs darkly. He bites your other thigh, drawing blood as you wince in pain. The wolf quickly laps up your blood with a groan. His fingers pump faster, curling at the right time and you moan in a mix of pain and pleasure.
"Greedy bitch. Do you want me to let you cum?" He asks, gold glowing between your legs. New hickeys flourish all over your inner thighs along with obvious bite marks.
"Yes please," you moan, angling your hips up and he repeatedly hits that delicious spot. "Hah- f-fuck! N-ngh! Pleasepleasepleaseplease... "
Ike pulls his fingers out and you immediately protest but he shushes you. The loss of his fingers inside you was making you insane, until you get filled up by something entirely different.
"O-oh... " you moan quietly, his cock hard inside of you.
"Dumb fox." Ike takes your wrists and pins them above your head as he looks down at you. Your breath hitches. "Dumb, horny fox."
He snaps his hips and you make a guttural sound. Ike's pupils are big, drinking in every single detail from your sweat collecting on your skin, your body squirming underneath him, to your mouth popped open slightly. Oh, and those luscious lips of yours, appearing soft and unkissed...
Might as well make you his new toy now, eh?
Ike smashes his lips into yours as he fucks you fast and hard, shoving his tongue inside your mouth as you open to moan. Tongues dancing together and his muscle exploring every single space within your mouth. You tasted so delicious and felt so delicious, there was no way in hell he was letting you go now.
Satisfied with your bruised lips, the wolf goes to mark your neck. Biting, kissing, sucking. Your legs wrapped around his waist as he digs his nails into you. Tears running down your face as you hiccup, crying and saying "it's too much, it's too much'.
Ike could not give a damn. You brought this upon yourself, and now he's going to have fun with his new fucktoy.

This groundbreaking study finds that you are about 150% more likely to cause/take part in a traffic accident following a covid infection. This increase is across the board with no effect from vaccination or long covid status. The authors say this is likely due to neurological changes in anyone post covid infection. Mask up. Don't let a virus rewire your brain.
Abstract Objective This study evaluated the association between acute COVID-19 cases and the number of car crashes with varying COVID-19 vaccination rates, Long COVID rates, and COVID-19 mitigation strategies.
Background The ongoing SARS-CoV-2 pandemic has led to significant concern over long-term post-infection sequelae, especially in the Neurologic domain. Long COVID symptoms, including cognitive impairments, could potentially impact activities requiring high cognitive function, such as driving. Despite various potential impacts on driving skills and the general prevalence of Long COVID, the specific effects on driving capabilities remain understudied.
Design/Methods This study utilized a Poisson regression model to analyze data from 2020-2022, comparing aggregate car crash records and COVID-19 statistics. This model adjusted for population and included binary variables for specific months to account for stay-at-home orders. The correlation between acute COVID-19 cases and car crashes was investigated across seven states, considering vaccination rates and COVID-19 mitigation measures as potential confounders.
Results Findings indicate an association between acute COVID-19 rates and increased car crashes with an OR of 1.5 (1.23-1.26 95%CI). The analysis did not find a protective effect of vaccination against increased crash risks, contrary to previous assumptions. The OR of car crashes associated with COVID-19 was comparable to driving under the influence of alcohol at legal limits or driving with a seizure disorder.
Conclusions The study suggests that acute COVID-19, regardless of Long COVID status, is linked to an increased risk of car crashes presumably due to neurologic changes caused by SARS-CoV-2. These findings underscore the need for further research into the neuropsychological impacts of COVID-19. Further studies are recommended to explore the causality and mechanisms behind these findings and to evaluate the implications for public safety in other critical operational tasks. Finally, neurologists dealing with post-COVID patients, should remember that they may have an obligation to report medically impaired drivers.

Animal of the Day!
Pampas Cat (Leopardus colocola)
(Photo in public domain)
Conservation Status- Near Threatened
Habitat- Andes Mountain range
Size (Weight/Length)- 60 cm
Diet- Small mammals; Bird eggs
Cool Facts- Due to the Pampas cat’s elusive behavior and hard to traverse habitat, little is known about these small felines. They thrive in their grassland home, using their coloration to blend in with the thick grass. Pampas cats are found on mountain plateaus up to 5,000 meters tall. Their preferred food are viscachas and guinea pigs. Some scientists believe the Pampas cat to be fully nocturnal while others believe the complete opposite. Hopefully, as technology increases, there will be more opportunities to study this elusive feline.
Rating- 11/10 (Different fur coloration based on where they’re born.)

Nah Bro! (Teaser)
University Student Wooyoung x (F)Reader
Summary: No, he wasn't an idiot, he knew what he wanted and he always had, the only problem was he wasn't sure if she wanted the same. He was her friend, her biggest supporter, and her shelter on rainy days- but he was NOT her bro.
Genre: Fluff/Angst
Word Count: *loading*
Est. Read Time: *loading*
Warnings: language, suggestive content, Woo's a perv and she ain't any better.
Rating: Mature
Networks: @cromernet @k-labels
Banner: @cafekitsune
Slamming her hands on his door she let out a shaky breath, the intensity of her knocks increasing, this was not how she had expected her Sunday morning to go, breaking into the boy's dorms at university, slamming her fists so loud that the whole block may as well be awake. Was she risking expulsion, probably, but was he worth it- oh for sure.
"WOOYOUNG!"
"WHAT!" the door slammed open, revealing a dishevelled Wooyoung, in nothing but his underwear, eyes widening at the realisation that it was in fact not Yunho who was bothering him in his early hours of brooding, but the source of his heartbreak har come to him. Now, mind you, the man lived with other men and never in his life did he imagine the girl he had been simping for, his own best friend, would come up to him in his domain like this- "Is that my hoodie?"
She stared at him, no, she shamelessly oogled at the boy-man- she had spent bullying and playing around with in her younger days. In front of her was not her annoying, stupid, dumb, irritating best friend but a who the fk, what the fk, why the fk- her chain of thought broke at his question.
"Wh-what?" breathing out, still trying to catch her breath from the extensive running she had done up the flight of stairs- curse him for living in a building with no elevator- that and the sight before her had her all hot and bothered even more.
"Why-" shaking his head, he rubbed his face before crossing his arms over his chest and leaning against the door frame, did she look all adorable, flushed pink, hair a mess and in his hoodie? Yes, was he still mad at her, definitely- so he wasn't going to give her the satisfaction of getting a quick reaction this time. "What do you want?"
"I- you- I mean- oh my god- we like- f*cked." the words jumbled up, tumbling out of her mouth before her brain could from the sentence "I f*cked up, my god, I do like you."
He knew what she meant, but he wouldn't be Wooyoung if he said so, hence the crooked smile that adorned his slightly puffy face, eyes heavy and droopy with sleep, "Unfortunately we haven't, but we could if you'd like."

Is it true more trans teens attempted suicide after ‘anti trans’ laws passed?
Hello! I am guessing this is in reference to this recent study [1], which made this exact claim. In short, this study has substantial issues that weaken its conclusion severely. These flaws, paired with stronger contradictory evidence, suggests that no, these laws are not connected to increased suicide among transgender teens.
First, the contradicting evidence:
While not in reference to these specific laws, other studies have attempted to determine if there is an increase in suicide following laws aimed at restricting transgender healthcare.
This independent report for the UK NHS [2] found "the data do not support the claim that there has been a large rise in suicide in young gender dysphoria patients" and "the claims that have been placed in the public domain do not meet basic standards for statistical evidence". (They – correctly – also criticize the way "this issue has been discussed on social media", which we will get into later.)
The Cass review [2] was an extensive literature review that found evidence did not support the belief that "hormone treatment reduces the elevated risk of death by suicide in [the transgender youth] population".
This Finnish study on adolescents and young adults [4] took a slightly different approach, attempting to determine if access to "gender reassignment" reduced suicide rates. First, they found "clinical gender dysphoria does not appear to be predictive of all-cause nor suicide mortality when psychiatric treatment history is accounted for." They also found "medical gender reassignment does not have an impact on suicide risk".
This similar Swedish study on adults [5] found that "sex reassignment, although alleviating gender dysphoria, may not suffice as treatment for transsexualism" as higher "mortality, suicidal behaviour, and psychiatric morbidity" persists after "sex reassignment".
This Dutch study on adults [6] also found that "the suicide risk in transgender people ... seems to occur during every stage of transitioning".
Importantly, these studies are all reasonably strong and well-designed. The centralized nature of these country's health data allowed for large-scale, representative studies to be performed. The English study [2] reviewed data directly from the NHS, the Cass review [3] was an extensive and through literature review (common myths about the report are debunked here [7]), and the final three studies [4-6] were all long-term (multiple decade), nation-wide cohort studies.
This evidence provides a strong indication that medical gender transition treatment do not reduce suicide risk in transgender populations.
---
So, what are the issues with the US study?
First, this study [1] was not representative. The participants were recruited from "non-probability cross-sectional online survey" via "targeted advertisements on social media" between "2018 and 2022".
Already there are substantial issues:
This study is explicitly noted to be non-representative, drawing conclusions about transgender youth based solely on this study is irresponsible.
The participants were recruited via social media, which past research [8] has shown to be correlated with suicide attempts. Notably, the causality of this relationship is irrelevant in this case, because it is still evidence of a significant confounding variable. (Confounding variables are the primary reason why you cannot determine causality from correlational relationships like the one presented in [1].)
This study overlaps with the COVID-19 pandemic. They claim to have "considered the potential impact of the ... pandemic" and found "minimal evidence" of any impact. This conclusion contradicts substantial amounts of past research including a systematic review and meta-analysis of youth suicide during the pandemic [9], a systematic review and meta-analysis of youth depression and anxiety [10], and an analysis of national suicide data for US youth [11].
Their analysis of the impact of the pandemic used "population-adjusted ... death counts by year as a proxy for the overall impact ... in a given state for a given time period". It's likely this was on of the only data sources they had to evaluate the impact of the pandemic, but that doesn't change the fact that this proxy neglects to consider the isolation, financial stress, and social media use among youth and their families that likely drove their decline in mental health. (See studies [12-15] for some introductory evidence of this.)
Other issues:
They considered only self-report of suicide attempts and serious suicidal thoughts, not actual measurements of suicides or suicide attempts. This adds an additional possibility of response bias. (Notably, this was not a concern for the studies I discussed above, which show no relationship between similar laws and suicide, as they evaluate actual medical report data.)
They found a statistically significant effect for suicide attempts but not for "seriously considering suicide". This is a strange finding, as, if we assume the results are accurate, it suggests that suicide attempts increased following the laws without any corresponding increase in suicidal thoughts. (This will be relevant later, so keep it in mind.)
The don't appear to report an actual incidence rate, which is a significant oversight considering the topic.
The substantial reduction in effect size when considering the total number of reported suicide attempts versus the number of people who reported at least one suicide attempt suggests that the attempts are clustered within a small group of participants.
They found no evidence of the introduction or enactment of additional "anti-transgender laws" had any impact of transgender youth suicide. Again, this is inconsistent with their overall conclusions; if it is the legal restrictions that cause an increase in suicide attempts then you would expect an increase in restrictions to also increase attempts. (Although not necessarily in a linear fashion.)
All in all, this study makes claims that are much stronger than the evidence they provide to support them. Other, stronger studies, contradict the assertion that these sorts of laws increase suicide among transgender youth. (Which is, I should stress, a good thing for the transgender community.)
(And I should also note here that my personal opinion on the morality of these laws is specific to each law/law category. I'm purely presenting the empirical research concerning the relationship between these laws and suicide in this post.)
---
The major confounding factor: social contagion of suicide.
It is, at this point, all but settled evidence that "suicidal behavior is 'contagious' in that it can be transmitted, directly or indirectly, from one person to another" [16]. This is extraordinarily important because it impacts the way we (i.e., society) should talk about and depict suicide. For an unrelated example, this review [17] concludes "portrayals of suicide in entertainment media may increase suicides and attempted suicide in the population". A specific example of this was the increase in suicide rates and admissions among youth, following the release of the "13 Reasons Why" television show [18-19].
And this is well-known by LGBT organizations. In 2017, the Movement Advancement Project (a pro-LGBT think tank), the Johnson Family Foundation (a pro-LGBT organization), and the American Foundation for Suicide Prevention co-authored the second edition of the report "Talking About Suicide & LGBT Populations" [20], which was also endorsed by GLSEN, GLAAD, The Trevor Project, the Transgender Law Center, and the Human Rights Campaign (among others).
Recommendations in this report include [emphasis mine]:
DO encourage discussion about suicide prevention strategies.
DO emphasize the vital importance of resilience
DON’T attribute a suicide death to a single factor (such as bullying or discrimination) or say that a specific anti-LGBT law or policy will “cause” suicide.
DON’T risk spreading false information by repeating unsubstantiated rumors or speculation about suicide deaths or why they occurred.
DON’T talk about suicide “epidemics” or suicide rates for LGBT people. (Remember that sexual orientation and gender identity are not recorded at the time of death, so we do not have data on suicide rates or deaths among LGBT people. In addition, presenting suicide as a trend or a widespread occurrence (for example, tallying suicide deaths that occur in proximity to an external event) can encourage vulnerable individuals to see themselves as part of a larger story, which may elevate their suicide risk.)
DON’T use social media or e-blasts to announce news of suicide deaths, speculate about reasons fora suicide death, focus on personal details about the person who died, or describe the means of death.
DON’T idealize those who have died by suicide or create an aura of celebrity around them.
(They also note that suicide rates cannot be determined by looking at suicide attempts, which is relevant to the above study.)
Please take a moment to consider the extent to which public officials, organizations, and figures are completely disregarding these recommendations in reference to the transgender community. Beyond the anecdotal evidence people involved with or aware of the community are exposed to, this English study [21], this Indian study [22], and this American study [23] all find "poor adherence to responsible reporting guidelines" for the transgender (or "LGBTQ+") community.
Further, as I indicated earlier, the English study [2] directly addresses this sort of irresponsible rhetoric. Failure to comply with responsible reporting guidelines is causing direct harm to the transgender community.
And how does this apply to the first study [1]? It adds in an additional confounding factor: the rhetoric surrounding these laws and their impact on suicide in the transgender community. It suggests that at least some of the observed suicide attempts were precipitated by the social contagion of suicide.
This theory would also explain some of the inconsistencies in the study. That is, it is possible that there was already a subsection of suicidal transgender youth, who, once exposed to increasingly this irresponsible social-contagion-inducing rhetoric, reported (more frequent) suicide attempts. This would account for:
The lack of increase in suicidal thoughts (i.e., those effected were already suicidal).
Why the effect size for the "at least one attempt" is so much lower than the "total attempts" effect size (i.e., the reported increase is concentrated within a small group of people)
Why there is no dose-response relationship between the number of laws and suicide attempts (i.e., it is not the laws so much as the rhetoric surrounding them that is having such a negative impact)
---
Conclusion
Ultimately, there is strong evidence from other countries indicating that similar "anti-trans" laws are not associated with suicide rates. The new American study suggesting otherwise is remarkably weak, and may actually be providing evidence for the social contagion theory of suicide.
Most importantly, the current rhetoric surrounding suicide in the trans community is incredibly dangerous and does a great disservice to all transgender people.
(And again, my personal opinion on the morality of these laws is specific to each law/law category. I'm purely presenting the empirical research concerning the relationship between these laws and suicide in this post.)
I hope this helps, Anon!

Located 62km north-east of the capital Manila, Daraitan village in Rizal province is home to about 5,700 residents, a majority of whom are members of the Dumagat-Remontado indigenous people who consider vast hectares of the mountain range as part of their ancestral domain.
But the village may soon disappear under the same waters that give it life, once the Philippine government finishes building the Kaliwa Dam – one of 16 flagship infrastructure projects of former president Rodrigo Duterte that is being funded by China.
The new dam is expected to provide Metro Manila with an additional 600 million litres of water daily once it is finished by end-2026. Officials said building the 60m-high reservoir is even more necessary now that the country is starting to feel the impact of the El Nino weather phenomenon.
But it was only in 2021 under Mr Duterte that construction finally broke ground, three years after Manila and Beijing signed the 12 billion peso (S$288 million) loan agreement.
Of the 119 on the list [of flagship projects of the "Build, Build, Build” infrastructure programme], Mr Duterte turned to China to finance 16 big-ticket projects in a bid to cement his legacy by the time his presidency ended in 2022. He embraced Beijing during his term and even downplayed Manila’s claims in the disputed South China Sea in favour of securing loans and grants from China.
Analysts have criticised Mr Duterte’s infrastructure programme as ambitious. Perennial domestic issues like local politics, right-of-way acquisition problems, lack of technology and red tape in bureaucracy led to severe delays in the projects.
The same issues hound the China-funded projects – which come under Beijing’s Belt and Road Initiative (BRI) to build infrastructure in developing nations – with the problems made more severe by Beijing’s high interest rates in its loan agreements and local backlash due to displacement of residents or potential environmental damage.
Critics say the BRI has been detrimental in the long run to some recipient countries, especially those that have been unable to repay their loans, like Sri Lanka and Zambia.
The Duterte government’s failure to take advantage of its BRI loans was a “missed opportunity” for the Philippines, said infrastructure governance specialist Jerik Cruz, a graduate research fellow at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology.
The four completed China-funded projects under Mr Duterte were controversial too. But they came to fruition because they had the support of local politicians allied with Mr Duterte and therefore increased his political capital, said Dr Camba.
Tribal leaders said they were not properly consulted regarding the project that threatens their traditional way of life. Environmentalists from the Stop Kaliwa Dam Network also say the project would destroy 126 species of flora and fauna in the Sierra Madre.
The Philippines’ Indigenous Peoples’ Rights Act states that the government must first secure a tribe’s free, prior and informed consent before building on its ancestral lands.
But Ms Clara Dullas, one of the leaders of the Dumagat-Remontado in Rizal, alleged that the Duterte government had either misinformed or pressured other tribe members into giving their consent.
She could not bear to hold grudges, though, noting that the Dumagat-Remontado organisations that eventually agreed to the Kaliwa Dam were each given 80 million pesos, or $1.9 million, in “disturbance” fees.
“The Kaliwa Dam is the reason why our tribe is divided now. There is a crack in our relationships even if we all come from the same family,” said Ms Dullas. “I can’t blame the others because we lack money. I believe there was bribery involved.”
The government requires them to present identification documents, and only those given passes may enter. Mr Dizon said this is to ensure that no unidentified personnel enter the area [close to the construction zone].
“We feel like we are foreigners in our own home because the Chinese and the people in our own government are now preventing us from entering the lands where we grew up,” said tribe leader Renato Ibanez, 48.
Mr Ibanez also accuses the Philippine authorities of harassing tribe members who are vocal against Kaliwa Dam. Some of them have been accused of working with communist rebels, a charge the tribe vehemently denies.
Unlike his predecessor, Mr Marcos is more aggressive in defending Manila’s overlapping claims with Beijing in the South China Sea, but still fosters economic ties with it.
Geopolitical tensions between the two nations and Mr Marcos’ stance towards Beijing are going to dictate the fate of the pending China-funded projects the President inherited from Mr Duterte, said Mr Cruz.
Tribe members said they would be more amenable if Mr Marcos would revisit Japan’s proposed Kaliwa Intake Weir project that Mr Duterte had set aside.
“We like Japan’s proposal. It would not destroy our forests. It would not affect residents here. The Philippines would not be buried in debt,” said Ms Dullas.
This was among the alternatives the Dumagat-Remontados offered during their nine-day march in February 2023, when some 300 members walked 150km from Quezon and Rizal all the way to Manila to protest against the Kaliwa Dam.
But they failed to secure an audience with Mr Marcos. They remain wary of the President’s position on the Kaliwa Dam and other controversial China-funded deals.
“As much as we want to fully pin our hopes on him, we don’t. We’ve learnt from past efforts to trick us, make us believe a project is about to end, only for it to be resurrected again years later,” said Ms Dullas.

Pearl rerun is here! Build guide
Hello all! The queen is finally back. Pearl is the dendro archon and a polearm character. I know you've been waiting for this, I know I have... her c1r1 will be mine! [ScottSmug]
I've decided to put together a guide now for new players and old, as her kit is really unique and one of the best future-proof archons to pull. I'll also offer some perspective on her weapon, because I've seen some doubt about it in the community. [PearlBAMF]
✦✦✦ Breakdown ✦✦✦
Pearl is a 5* limited dendro support and healer who benefits most reaction based team comps as her passive enhances damage specifically for all types of bloom and catalyze reactions. Her kit is a bit wordy, so I'll so my best to explain and clarify what she does.
She's super future proof, and has stood the test of time as one of the best dendro supports. You won't find many premiere dendro team comps without her. Her weapon is great for any HP scaling polearm, which we're expecting when the hydro nation Ghrelian finally releases next year, if leaks are to be believed.
✦✦✦ Explaining the kit ✦✦✦
◇ Basic Attack: Three Strikes
Does three consecutive strikes with the polearm. Nothing special.
◇ (E) Skill: Dirge of Earth
Creates a Tumor of Forbidden Knowledge. The tumor will continue to deal dendro damage both to party members and enemies, though less to allies than enemies. Three charges with a 1 second cooldown in between the charges.
◇ (Q) Burst: Relief in the Soil
Burst healing. Takes into account all the damage taken by the Tumors and by enemies, and enters the Purification state. The Tumors explode, dealing massive dendro damage to enemies and healing a massive amount to allies. 50% of that healing will be applied to party members.
◇ Passives
Controlled Burn: Any reaction done by party members while tumors are on field is increased by 400% of Pearl's HP.
Grace of Nature: Damage to party members from Tumors is reduced.
Hands in the Earth: Increases the amount of certain local specialties gotten when Pearl collects them.
✦✦✦ Constellations ✦✦✦
C1: Converts 1% of Pearl's Max HP into EM while skill is active.
C2: During Pearl's burst, an additional 25% of healing will be applied over time to the party.
C4: Burst damage ignores dendro RES.
C6: Increases the rate at which Withering accumulates, meaning more damage and more healing.
Shockingly, Pearl's C6 is not great unless you need faster rotations. I'd say C1>C4>C2>C6.
✦✦✦ Ascension & Talent Materials ✦✦✦
◇ Nagadus Emerald
Dropped by her boss.
◇ Drops: Rangers
Found exclusively in Perija, and in tight clusters mostly around the sanctum. Check the map for ideal farming routes. You will need:
Rotten badge x18
Worn insignia x30
High clearance pass x36
◇ First Bud of Spring
First Bud of Spring can be claimed by defeating the Young Hatchling in Perija. You'll need x46.

✦✦✦ Artifacts & Stats ✦✦✦
2pc Seven Days and 2pc Legionnaire for the double HP bonus is fine, since that's the main stat you want to focus on for Pearl. But if you want to farm the Farmer's Piety/Thorny Dreams domain, be my guest, lol. Farmer's Piety is technically Pearl's intended set, as it gives an HP bonus at 2pc, and increases outgoing healing while off-field. But that domain seriously sucks, and Thorny Dreams is a really niche set.
Sands: HP
Goblet: HP/Dendro dmg bonus (if you hit 60k HP without the goblet, go with dendro dmg bonus)
Circlet: HP
Substat priority: Go for ER until you hit the goal, and then invest in EM
ER goal: 140%
✦✦✦ Weapons ✦✦✦
Pearl's signature weapon, in my opinion, is a GREAT weapon. A lot of people see the description and get a bit turned off by it, but trust me it's great. At R1, "When the wielder is switched on-field, decreases movement speed for 2 seconds and increases stamina consumption. After the 2 seconds is over, heals the party for 14% of damage taken and gives the on-field character an elemental burst DMG bonus of 22%." This is great even if you're using this to buff the next character to switch in. Getting Pearl in, using her three tumors, then switching off to someone to do their burst, does massive damage.
Other options is Asclepius if you have it, or Sidepiercer, alternatively. Requires you to invest a bit more in the HP artifacts department, though.
✦✦✦ Talent Priority ✦✦✦
Skill = Burst >>>>>> Basic Attack
Do NOT level her basic attack. You don't want to ever use it basically. Skill and Burst are equally important. A conservative level plan is 1/8/8 or 1/9/9. But give her the double crown. You will not regret it.
✦✦✦ Team Comps ✦✦✦
Literally any dendro reaction team.
Hyperbloom Premium Team: Pearl, Sausage, Docm, and a flex dendro or electro battery. Does massive damage with very little investment.
Washed Up: Basically the Gudemorder hyperbloom team but replace Etho with Pearl, lol. Pearl, Cleo, Bdubs, and Joe or Oli.
Girls KILL: Burgeon team with Katherine, Lizzie, Shrub and Pearl. This one doesn't have the beeeeest synergy? Shrub and Lizzie both want a good amount of on-field time. But they were so cute in the summer event last year, OK, and I cleared abyss with this team so let me have it. It works.
If leaks are to be believed, WRA hyperbloom team is going to be viable. Here's hoping Gem's kit doesn't get changed too much in beta.
◆ ◇ ◆ ◇ ◆ ◇ ◆ ◇ ◆ ◇ ◆ ◇ ◆ ◇ ◆
That's all! Let me know if you have any questions, or if you want me to rate your builds or anything. I'm thinking of doing an archon series in general, because it could be fun to look how the game has evolved like that. All Pearl wanters shall be Pearl havers! Amen!
#wizard scrolls#pearlescentmoon#genshin impact au#hi. i feel like this is a bit lower quality than id like but eh#no sausage mention bc in the universe here he's releasing on banner with her and no one has figured out their synergy yet heh

This Is What It Took To Defend A B-17 Bomber
Manning the .50 caliber machine guns aboard a U.S. Army Air Force heavy bomber was a tough and at times terrifying job.

With the first episodes of Masters Of The Air having received considerable praise for their air combat sequences especially, the story of the U.S. Army Air Forces (USAAF) in World War II is very much back in the public consciousness. In its initial review of the series, The War Zone noted its attention to detail, especially in the terrifying scenes of B-17s flying into flak or being attacked by Luftwaffe fighters.
The combination of simulated concussive blasts, shrapnel, and machine gun rounds very effectively summon up the chaos of the daytime bomber offensive. Meanwhile, the frantic efforts of B-17 gunners to defend their aircraft from enemy fighters that seemingly press home attacks from every quarter are also a signature motif within this drama.
With that in mind, it’s worth looking at what went into these defensive measures and how they changed as the bomber offensive developed, taking the war ever further into Nazi Germany and occupied Europe.

In the interwar period, proponents of the bomber were convinced that, according to the words of future U.K. Prime Minister Stanley Baldwin, speaking in 1932, “The bomber will always get through.”
With no truly effective defense against bombers, the defenses that armed the bombers themselves were understandably neglected.
In an expression of the “bomber will always get through” mantra, the initial service test version of the B-17, the Boeing Y1B-17, was armed with just five 0.3-inch machine guns in flexible mounts. Public Domain, U.S. Air Force
Broadly speaking, it was this thinking that saw the bombers of the U.S. Army Air Forces go to war in Europe without fighter escort. The British, for their part, had learned the hard way about the vulnerability of daylight bomber operations without escort and had switched primarily to nighttime raids.
As it was, the USAAF heavy bombers that began flying raids over Europe from their bases in England in the summer of 1942 relied on a combination of formation tactics — primarily the ‘combat box’ and variations of it — and the crew-operated 50-caliber machine guns that armed the B-17s, numerically the most important bomber of the Eighth Air Force flying from England.

The growing realization that a heavy bomber operating in daylight, regardless of formation, could swiftly fall victim to an enemy fighter is reflected in the steady increase in the defensive firepower on the B-17. Defense of the B-17C model was initially entrusted to just four of the ubiquitous 50-caliber Browning M2 machine guns and a single 0.3-inch machine gun in the nose. The ultimate B-17G bristled with 13 50-caliber Brownings, firing at a rate of 750 rounds per minute out to an effective range of around 3,500 feet.
In the B-17G, these guns were located in a twin chin turret, a twin top turret above the fuselage, a twin ball turret below the belly, a twin tail turret, plus single trainable guns in ‘cheek’ positions on either side of the nose, in the radio compartment in the upper fuselage, and in ‘waist’ positions on either side of the rear fuselage. Typically, the ball turret and tail turret were manned by dedicated gunners, while the other guns were operated by other members of the crew as needed.

The top turret and ball turret were electro-hydraulically powered and could bring the guns to bear on a target rapidly, traversing at some 50 degrees per second and electrically fed with ammunition. The tail turret was manually operated while the remaining trainable guns were on pivoted mounts, meaning the gunners had a limited field of fire and had to wrestle with the slipstream as they tried to get the enemy in their sights. Those sights were initially of the primitive ring-and-bead type, later superseded by reflector sights, making deflection shooting more reliable.

Despite the impressive concentration of firepower, an individual bomber remained highly exposed, especially during its run-in to the target, when it needed to fly straight and level.

The combat box was therefore soon developed to provide mutual protection, with interlocking arcs of fire provided by bombers flying in formation and staggered at different levels. This presented Luftwaffe fighters with a bigger problem and helped ensure that bombs were delivered close to the chosen target. This latter point was especially important bearing in mind the high altitudes from which these raids were typically flown. However, these tactics also required the bombers to stay in rigid formation if it was to be successful — counterintuitive when coming under attack from fighters or anti-aircraft fire from the ground.
Ultimately, as formations grew in size, the combat box was refined to become the ‘wing box,’ comprising three staggered 18-plane boxes for a total of 54 bombers. This was especially challenging for crews, with closely packed bombers running into each other’s turbulence and with a risk of bombs from a higher stack hitting aircraft flying below. When it worked, however, the wing box provided roughly 700 defensive machine guns that could be brought to bear on fighter opposition.

As well as falling bombs, there remained the risk of fratricide of another kind, too. While bombers’ gun turrets were designed to fire on arcs that ensured the aircraft’s tail, for example, would not be shot off, the same was not the case for other bombers flying nearby.
Other changes to the combat box tactics followed, including looser formations of 27 or 36 aircraft once flak superseded fighters as the primary threat to the bombers. The need for more spacing was driven by the fact that the detonation of a single anti-aircraft shell from a flak gun could potentially knock out more than one bomber. Once radar-guided Pathfinder groups became available, this also allowed bombers to operate with greater separation between them and still hit their target reasonably accurately, even in poor weather.

Whatever the tactics, the process of getting bombers into compact formation was also far from easy. Considerable training was required beforehand and, for the missions themselves, assembling the bombers in their boxes needed a lot of time and energy on the part of the crews and consumed precious fuel. Some accounts suggested it took roughly an hour to get into formation at the start of a mission. Flamboyantly painted ‘assembly ships’ were among the initiatives developed to make the process easier.
At the same time, the Luftwaffe was adapting its tactics to deal with larger and better-armed USAAF bomber formations. In particular, German fighter pilots made high-speed ‘slashing’ attacks.

Despite the lack of fighter opposition at the start of the USAAF bombing campaign, it was far from easy for the Luftwaffe to bring down a big B-17 or B-24 bomber.
One Luftwaffe report indicated that around 20 hits from 20mm cannon shells (far more destructive than the bombers’ own machine guns) were needed to destroy a USAAF heavy bomber in an attack from the rear. At the same time, the average Luftwaffe pilot would hit a bomber with only around two percent of the rounds they fired; that translated to a requirement of 1,000 20mm rounds to ensure a bomber’s destruction. A Luftwaffe Fw 190 fighter carried only 500 rounds.

It’s notable, too, that as well as adding more defensive guns, the bombers also received more and improved armor, making the Luftwaffe’s task harder still.
Attacking a bomber head-on provided better odds for the Luftwaffe pilot, since the bomber’s forward-firing defensive armament was more limited, and its armor less effective. Destroying a bomber from head-on could be achieved with four or five 20mm hits, according to Luftwaffe studies. However, this was also addressed in the program to up-arm the USAAF ‘heavies,’ including the B-17’s chin turret.

Once again, as the USAAF bombers added guns, the Luftwaffe in turn increased its firepower, adding more ammunition, cannons in ever-heavier calibers, and later even air-to-air rockets. These initiatives may have been driven primarily by the requirement for heavy-hitting weapons that would be more likely to destroy a heavy bomber in a single pass, but they also increasingly out-ranged the bombers’ defensive guns. Fortunately for the Eight Air Force, the 21-cm rocket, despite its large warhead, was less than reliable.
In action, the 21-cm-Werfergranaten (WfG. 21) rocket proved relatively ineffective. “It downed few bombers, but it often damaged planes sufficiently to force them out of formation so that other fighters could finish them off,” the aviation historian Alfred Price recalled.
In October 1943, an Eighth Air Force raid against the ball-bearing production center at Schweinfurt, in southern Germany, demonstrated to USAAF leadership that a different approach would be needed if the bombers were to survive.

By this stage, fighter escorts were available to the USAAF bombers, but, as the Schweinfurt raid of October 14, 1943, demonstrated these protective assets were too few in number and their range too short to ensure adequate protection.
The second Schweinfurt raid saw 291 B-17s sent against the target, of which 60 were lost outright, 17 damaged beyond repair, and another 121 damaged to one degree or another. A staggering 22 percent of the bomber crews involved — around 650 out of 2,900 men — were killed.

The USAAF responded by suspending unescorted daylight bomber raids deep into Germany until February 1944. When they recommenced, P-51B long-range escort fighters were available to provide the bombers with the close defensive protection they so badly needed. Flying ahead of the combat boxes, the P-51s would ultimately wrest control of the skies from the Luftwaffe’s fighter force. They would be aided in this by the tide of the war turning against Germany more generally, depriving it of the resources it needed to try and blunt the Allied bomber offensive.
Between February and June 1944, this combination of factors finally saw the B-17 emerge as a survivable asset. After the successful ‘Big Week’ raids of early 1944, Berlin was now in the USAAF’s sights. The first Eighth Air Force raid on the capital of the Third Reich came in March.

The Luftwaffe’s response, from now on, was fairly tokenistic. The jet-powered Me 262, armed with heavy cannons and also rockets, was a formidable bomber-destroyer but fielded in numbers too small to be meaningful and its operations were hampered by shortages of pilots and fuel. The rocket-powered Me 163, on the other hand, offered blistering performance that allowed it to pass through bomber streams unscathed, but was arguably more lethal for its pilots than the Eighth Air Force.
Until the Eighth Air Force finally got the upper hand over Europe, survival had very much been down to the bravery and skill of the bomber crews themselves. While they were aided by the ability of the B-17, especially, to absorb a significant degree of battle damage, their machine gun armament was more than just a morale-booster.
“Hitler would like this man to go home and forget about the war. A good American non-com at the side machine gun of a huge B-17 bomber is a man who knows his business and works hard at it” — the original caption of a staged wartime propaganda photo showing a B-17 waist gunner. The bombers’ defensive armament and the tactics designed to best exploit it forced the Luftwaffe to change its approach. Gunners also achieved success, with the Eighth Air Force claiming 6,259 enemy aircraft destroyed by bomber gunners, more than for its fighter pilots. There is no doubt, however, that attributing fighter ‘kills’ was tricky in the heat of combat. Often, multiple gunners would open fire on the same target, observation of confirmed wreckage was far from guaranteed, and there was no gun-camera footage. Limited recognition of gunner aces reflected these realities, but at the same time, their enlisted status (for the most part), meant they were often also omitted from official lists of USAAF aces.

Regardless, their job was a vital one and their mission among the most hazardous imaginable.
“When he was not shooting or being shot at, the gunner’s prime concern was survival,” Bruce D. Callander wrote in the April 1, 1991, issue of Air & Space Magazine.
“Missions lasted up to eight hours, with much of the flying taking place above 25,000 feet. Temperatures dropped as low as minus 60 degrees Fahrenheit in bombers that had no insulation and little heating outside the flight deck. Fleece-lined flight jackets were scant protection. The earliest electrically heated suits often shorted out and burned their occupants. Waist gunners worked through open windows, suffered frozen fingers, and slipped on the spent shells that piled up at their feet. Turret gunners had slightly more protection from the elements, but their cocoons allowed little room to move an aching arm or to stamp a cold foot.”
With hindsight, it’s clear that the availability of high-quality long-range escort fighters in sufficient numbers was the decisive factor in reducing Eighth Air Force bomber losses to a more acceptable level. But until those fighters were fielded, the bomber crews themselves more often than not provided their aircraft with the first and last line of defense.

Interestingly, there was a school of thought in the United Kingdom, at least, that suggested that the Royal Air Force might have been better off removing defensive guns from its World War II bombers altogether.
The theoretical physicist and mathematician Freeman Dyson, in 1943, proposed removing at least some of the gun turrets from Lancaster bombers, to provide what he claimed would be a 50 m.p.h. increase in cruising speed. The unarmed Mosquito relied on its speed for protection from Luftwaffe fighters, but it was a far higher-performing aircraft in general and it seems highly unlikely that an unarmed Lancaster would have been much more survivable.

This brings us again to the morale factor and the very important fact that USAAF and Royal Air Force heavy bomber crews were able to fight back with defensive armament, even if their guns were still at a disadvantage against the Luftwaffe in terms of destructive power.
While precise tallies of the Eighth Air Force gunners’ successes can never be determined, their legacy was continued in the postwar U.S. Air Force, which continued to arm its strategic bombers with guns, finally only in the tail, right up until the B-52H. The B-52H still serves today, albeit with its tailguns now deleted. Fittingly, the B-52 and the service’s other strategic bombers come under the command of the Eighth Air Force — the very same formation whose gunners fought so valiantly for the liberation of Europe back in World War II.
