(some of this information may be incorrect, it has been a few years)

dq7 3ds let you send 3 monsters you’d befriended in monster meadows to find treasure tablets in a cave. the tablets would take you to a dungeon made of a random sequence of rooms from story dungeons (similar to the postgame dungeons from dq4, dq5, and dq6). there would only be 3 types of monster found throughout the dungeon: the 3 you’d sent to find the tablet and a boss at the end.

you could share these tablets with other players through streetpass, and online you could exchange with other players also connected at that time. online there were also special official tablets your could download.

most of the monsters found in these special tablets were not found anywhere else in the game (you could befriend them and make your own tablets with them though, except for a few select bosses). they appeared in a special section of the defeated monster list. some were from previous dq games, some were entirely new.

some notes i like:

a monster called green dragon debuted in dq1, a different monster also called green dragon debuted in dq4. the two had never appeared in the same game so this caused no issue. however, the latter green dragon appeared normally in dq7 while the former appeared in this dq7 3ds remake as one of these special monsters. thus, the latter’s name was changed to jade dragon.

many dq games have treasure chest mimics, some have bookshelf mimics, some have pot mimics (for the smashable pots), some have monsters hiding in wells, dq10 even has a wardrobe mimic. one of these special monsters was a barrel mimic called a “tun of fun” which has not existed elsewhere to my knowledge. treasure tablet monsters just function as normal monsters, if you get a mimic in a tablet it won’t be disguised or anything, just walking around. this means that in it’s only appearance, the tun of fun doesn’t even get to mimic a barrel.

one of the bosses that can’t be befriended is hammer from slimopolis in dq6. one of the others is robbin’ ‘ood.

one had a metal mannequin, a gold mannequin, and diamond mannequin: unique variants of the mud mannequin family. the gold mannequin is very similar to the gold plated puppet from dq10 and dq11.

familiar with the adorable pip fighter, battle pip, wiz pip, and epiphany? well there were ones with unique weapons: nut knight, war nut, nutty professor, and religious nut. what about the conkuistador, conkerer, conkjurer, and conkuisitor? well there’s the kernel colonel (literally has the zenithian gear), lieutenant kernel, infernal kernel, and kernel of truth.

you know it just occurred to me. since the 3ds eshop shut down, i assume the servers for dq7 3ds shut down at some point?

are the dlc treasure tablets now lost content? i made sure to fill the defeated monster list including the special dlc tablet-exclusive monsters when i played it. i know you can share tablets locally via streetpass but you could only have so many tablets at once so no-one has them all on one save file.

and there were some dlc treasure tablets that let your play some bonus story scenes.

I can’t help but feel like there are some implications of Jasper’s character possibly being expanded upon in DQ11S... especially when taking this into consideration 😗
