I know people mock or deride Erik’s accent in XI, but to me is actually perfect. There’s hints of Icelandic if you’re actually really listening. But it’s so broad, and it’s no wonder what with all the travelling we can assume he was doing growing up.

I’ve watched countless Icelandic and other Nordic crime dramas (they’re so good), and when a character suddenly has to speak fluent English for whatever reason, I’ve noticed a LOT of them have a very neutral (almost Americanised) voice with only the slightest twang - just like Erik.

I’m just saying they really knew what they were doing with this game.

WHY ARE THEY BREAKING MY HEART LIKE THIS?! I know I have nothing else to do in this timeline but the fact that I don’t get to bring my friends along SUCKS. I want to bring my friends with me, I want them to remember the adventures we had together. I know they’re still gonna be there in the past but they won’t remember any of the times we had during act 2.

I’m really sad, I will be keeping a save from this timeline but still I dunno how I feel about this aspect of the post story yet.

First things first. Spoiler Alert for Dragon Quest XI. I just finished this game (though I know I’ve got a ton of post game stuff or so it seems) so the brain rot is real right now.

I need to talk about the penultimate fight against Jasper Unbound. Specifically the fact that I had Hendrik on my team for the entire fight and I don’t think ANY other team member was targeted as much as Hendrik was in that fight and I LOVED IT. Jasper’s resentment and HATRED towards Hendrik was actually a factor in the gameplay and I think that’s such a brilliant detail. I’m sure other games have done this but as far as I remember I don’t think I’ve ever noticed anything like that. I know it’s such a small detail but I really enjoyed it.

It also helped that Hendrik was the one to land the final blow that defeated Jasper and it just so dramatic and really brought me into the moment. I’m sure Hendrik getting the final blow was pure coincidence but I’ve been really wondering whether Jasper targeting Hendrik if you have him in your party was purposely programmed in. I feel like it has to be but I’m honestly scared to Google it cos if it’s deconfirmed I’d be real sad cos the drama and angst that brought to the fight was just fantastic.

Anyway Dragon Quest XI real good. Real good game. I’m completely in love with the characters in this game, they’re all so good. Also sorry if I’ve explained this poorly, I’m not very good at properly explaining and analysing things but I just really appreciated that detail, Intentional or not.
