OPERATION: LOCKDOWN - 008 ! mickey and minnie
pairing -> gamer!riki x beauty influencer!fem reader
synopsis -> you hated gamers. riki hated ulzzang’s (except you). so after weeks of fighting to be the top streamer, (and riki’s poor attempts to charm you), he suggests to collaborate so you could both be number one. you tried to keep it professional. but the more time you spent producing content together, the more you realized just how much nishimura riki really meant to you.
previous <> masterlist <> next
“riki! give me back my phone!” you gasped, seeing as he was texting minjeong and karina in the group chat. you didn’t bother asking if he saw any of your texts because you had nothing to hide.
riki pouted playfully, but still put the device into your open purse when you put your wallet away.
“here.” you said, taking the mickey ears out the plastic gift bag. “i wasn’t sure what you wanted but i knew you didn’t want something basic. so i got you this pirate themed one.” you showed the headband to him, lightly toying with it.
“it’s perfect.” riki assured as he gently held your wrist. “sorry..”
“let me put it on for you!” you squealed. you tapped his shoulder, gesturing for him to bend down.
“one sec.” he muttered, before taking off his current headband. “okay, go.”
you replaced his sweatband with the mickey ears, lightly fluffing up his hair as it was flattened by the headband. “looks good. thank you.”
“yeah of course. see, look! now we’re matching. we’re like mickey and minnie.” you exclaimed. riki smiled at your enthusiasm, but quickly stopped as he felt his cheeks grow warm.
“i never understood the concept behind these headbands anyway. but, it’s cute.”
“well it’s your first time at disneyland! i thought i should make it special for you.” “you’ve definitely succeeded so far, y/n.”
“hi guys! this is the first vlog after a long few months, since i’ve been so busy with modeling. nevertheless! this is a very special video. as you can see, i’m here at disneyland. but i’m not alone! because im here with…” you introduced, before the camera was turned around. “yo, this is nishiriki2005. you can call me riki.” he waved with a peace sign, before focusing the lens back onto you.
“we just got off pirates of the caribbean, and we’re about to get in line for haunted mansion. so stay tuned.” you smiled. “aaaaand, cut.” riki droned on, before signaling the recording ended.
“your online persona really is different from your real personality.” you hummed.
“you said that when we did the baking live. which do you like more?” he raised a brow with genuine curiosity.
“i like both. but the real you is my favorite.” you whispered as you held his hand tighter.
wait. pause. when did you start holding hands?
“now let’s go! i need content!” you laughed, before dragging him into the line.
“this is my favorite part of the ride.” you said to riki, not realizing you were yelling because of how loud the music was.
you quickly started recording and flipped the camera around to the grand hall scene, making sure your lens picked up the ballroom ghosts.
“how do you feel riki?” “yeah, i see why you like it. it’s beautiful.”
he gently took the camera out your hands as your vehicle moved past the scene. with his right arm, riki held the camera out facing you both. you stifled a chuckle as he grew startled, when the ride turned backwards and dropped.
riki wasn’t aware that his fingers were still interlocked with your warm ones. but you didn’t mind. his hand was cold. you liked the balance.
after you cleared a few more rides (including indiana jones, big thunder mountain, matterhorn, etc.), riki wanted to skip fantasyland (and whatever else you hadn’t gone to yet) because he also bought tickets to go to disney california adventures.
so, you left disneyland, and walked to the other side of the entrance, to california adventures.
originally, going to both parks wasn’t the plan. you didn’t want riki to spend so much on you, (even after you insisted to pay him, he refused), but riki heard so much about the latter park, he was certain he’d like it just as much.
he was right, almost. he liked it even more than disneyland. the rides were so much bigger and more intense.
currently, it was around 10pm. the park wouldn’t be closing until midnight seeing as it was a saturday. you two were stationed across from each other, outside of the restaurant ‘lucky fortune cookery’ in san fransokyo square.
the camera was propped up on a napkin holder, slightly facing away from you. riki was doing a mini mukbang segment for his channel (and a small part of your vlog), while you were eating in the background.
“so, riki.” you started speaking before taking a bite of your birria ramen. “what are your top 5 rides from both parks as a first time enjoyer?”
riki put his potsticker down and gasped. “that’s such a hard question! i can’t even decide right now with all this good food overwhelming me. you go first.”
“alright.” you chuckled. “in order, probably.. radiator springs for sure, and toy story mania second. hmm..” you hummed in thought.
“see! it’s a tough situation.” he laughed.
“alright! okay, i’ll prove it’s not. haunted mansion, star wars, and incredicoaster, that’s 5.” you exclaimed. riki lifted one hand up, giving you a high five.
“okay now me! definitely guardians of the galaxy as number one. then, incredicoaster second. matterhorn, radiator springs, and indiana jones!”
“perfect.” you said in awe, reaching to high five him with both hands. riki interlocked your fingers with his, but then reality hit you.
you froze, before gently pulling away. you realized you were getting too close, too comfortable. and you shut down, like you always did with any boy after gunwook. even sometimes seunghan.
you looked down, too scared to make eye contact. but when you did, riki smiled at you, before going back to eating his food.
it was silent for a moment, but not awkward at all. it was slightly comforting, even after the little moment you had.
“y/n..” he started. “i know, i’m sorry. i don’t know why it happens, i just-” you cut him off, beginning to ramble. but riki stopped you. he reached for your hand, holding it softly. “it’s not that. i just think that i know why.”
“you do? how..?” “it’s some kind of trauma response to gunwook. you shut down because you’re scared it’ll happen again.”
he took note of your silence. riki knew what you were thinking, it was written all over your face. “yeah, i know. sunoo and sunghoon told me.”
you nodded in response, before mumbling something. riki almost didn’t catch it, but hes glad that he did. “can i sit next to you?”
“of course you can.” he whispered back. riki pulled out the metal chair next to him, so you can take your place.
slowly, you leaned closer to him, before finally resting your shoulder in the crook of his neck. riki slightly flinched at the contact, but instinctively wrapped his arm tight around your waist.
“i’m tired.” you mumbled. “it’s okay. i’ll wake you up when it’s time to go home.” he said, bringing his free hand up to cradle your cheek.
“riki?” “i know.” riki sighed. “but you can trust me. i’ll never hurt you the way he did.” he muttered, before pressing a soft kiss on your forehead. and that’s all you remembered, before falling into a deep sleep.

Writing Notes: Places
Rivers
We use the before the names of rivers.
We usually write the without a capital letter.
If we use the word river, we usually write it without a capital letter: the river Thames, the river Severn, the Yangtze river.
We don’t always use the word river, especially when it is obvious that we are talking about a river: the Mississippi, the Nile, the Ganges, the Loire.
Mountains and Islands
We use the with the names of some mountains: the Matterhorn, the Jungfrau.
We do not use the if the name includes Mount or Mountain: Mount Olympus, Brokeback Mountain.
We often refer to some mountains just by their name without the: Everest, Kilimanjaro, Snowdon.
We usually use the before the names of ranges of mountains and groups of islands: the Dolomites, the Himalayas, the Rockies, the Bahamas, the Florida Keys, the Canaries.
Deserts, Oceans and Seas

We often leave out the word desert, ocean or sea: the Sahara or the Sahara Desert, the Atlantic or the Atlantic Ocean, the Mediterranean or the Mediterranean Sea.
Cities, Countries and Continents
We don’t use the with the names of cities, countries or continents: Paris, Tokyo, France, Peru, Africa, Asia.
A small number of country names include the: The United Kingdom, The USA, The United Arab Emirates, The Netherlands.
Lakes
We don’t usually use the with the names of lakes.
We often use the word Lake before the name: Lake Como, Lake Michigan, Lake Geneva, Lake Tahoe.
Buildings, Monuments, Cathedrals, etc.
We use the with some names of buildings (we usually write the without a capital letter, the Taj Mahal, the Alhambra, the Houses of Parliament, the Pentagon) but not with others:
Stonehenge, Windsor Castle, St Paul’s Cathedral, Chichen Itza.
Roads, Streets, etc.
We use the with the names of major roads in a country: the M6, the A40,
but not with the names of areas, squares, streets and roads in a town or city: Broadway, Covent Garden, Times Square, Princes Street.
Facilities in a Town or City
We usually use the with the names of hotels, cinemas, museums and art galleries: the Marriott, the Louvre, the National Gallery.
When we are referring to buildings or institutions that don’t include the name of a town or city, we use the: the airport, the University Press,
but not when the name of the town or city is included: Gatwick Airport, Cambridge University Press.
But there are some exceptions:
Have you been on the London Eye?
They’ve been on the Eye at least ten times.
We saw ‘Mamma Mia’ at the Bristol Hippodrome. (the name of a theatre)
Have you been to the Hippodrome since they renovated it?
The Sea, the Coast, etc.
When we are referring to general features of a country or its landscape, we use the:
the sea, the countryside, the city, the coast.
Places: Fixed Expressions
There are a lot of common fixed expressions relating to places.
We don’t normally use the with these expressions.
Here are some of them:

Skiing - a beginner’s guide
I first went skiing in Switzerland with my friends nearly 10 years ago and I loved it. The feeling of the wind on my face, the speed, the adrenaline- it was exhilarating.
I’ve compiled a basic list of ski events, a semi-scandalous article and some of the best destinations in the world as well as some budget friendly ones.
Socialite ski events:
Snowboxx:
Since it launched in 2013, winter festival Snowboxx has been growing in popularity - and it involves flying out to the Alps for a week-long ski party. It takes place in Avoriaz ski resort, Morzine, France each March, and this year saw a superstar lineup of artists performing in the mountains, including ex-Radio 1 DJ Annie Mac, Becky Hill, Jax Jones, Sonny Fodera and Andy C.
The combination of partying to some of the world's best DJs, with the unusual day-activites of skiing and snowboarding, are making many turn away from the summer festival circuit in favour of the winter one.
Hahnenkamm, Kitzbühel , Austria:
The Hahenekamm ski race weekend in Kitzbühel is arguably the biggest alpine ski event in the world. The world’s best take on the iconic Streif downhill track, which is historically the toughest ski race track on the World Cup circuit. A lot of the speed skiers consider winning races here as a bigger honour than the Olympics. As a spectator, the atmosphere is electric with fans around the world admiring some breathtaking ski racing.
X Games, Aspen, USA:
The world’s best freestyle skiers and snowboarders compete annually in Aspen. The event is a prestigious honour to win amongst action sports athletes and has propelled careers. Spectating the event is excellent because you can see most of the action from the viewing areas. The halfpipe events in particular are excellent to watch for this reason.
European Snow Pride, Tignes, France:
Tignes is home to Europe’s biggest gay ski week, with the European Snow Pride. Each day has a theme with nights of brit-pop to superhero days. Many international DJs are invited to play each evening party in the resort’s local clubs and bars.
Slightly scandalous tales: Things I Never Knew About Skiing Until I Was a Private Instructor in Aspen
Really interesting read. I was thoroughly entertained.
Popular ski destinations:
1. Whistler Blackcomb, Canada
Whistler makes it onto pretty much every ‘World Top 10’ list when it comes to ski resorts
2. Niseko, Japan
Located on the northern island of Hokkaido, this Japanese skiing destination is a snow-covered paradise. With a huge 15 metres of average snowfall, it’s no wonder that Niseko is the country’s premier ski resort.
3. Zermatt, Switzerland
As the highest resort in the Alps, it’s got the views. The incredible peak of the Matterhorn can be seen from just about anywhere on the slopes! It also boasts the greatest vertical drop in Switzerland, and there’s all year round skiing at the Matterhorn Glacier.
4. Courchevel, France
The resort is a part of the world’s largest alpine ski area, offering more than 600 kilometres of terrain and interconnected ski runs across 10 summits. The snow here is well-groomed, and there’s a legendary black run that’s considered to be one of the trickiest in the world.
5. Cortina D’Ampezzo, Italy
Known only to the most dedicated, well-travelled skiers prior to the 1956 Winter Olympics, Cortina is a hidden gem in Italy’s Dolomite Mountains.
6. Baqueira-Beret, Spain
It may be a surprising destination for skiing, but Baqueira-Beret in Spain is one of the best places in Europe where you’ll find value for money for a ski holiday. You’ll be able to find affordable accommodation as well as some of the finest tapas restaurants in the country.
7. Ylläs, Finland
The arctic landscapes of Lapland are perfect for skiing. If you dream of snow-dusted trees, the magic of the Northern Lights, or the glow of the midnight sun, Ylläs is a unique winter resort that you won’t want to miss. As Finland’s largest ski resort, it’s got everything you need.
Budget friendly destinations
1. Vogel, Slovenia
An ideal spot for couples or families, this Slovenian spot is a truly beautiful and peaceful ski area. Overlooking Lake Bohinj, Vogel is part of the Triglav national park.
2. Livigno, Italy
Duty-free zone Livigno offers excellent slopes for intermediate skiers. But advanced skiers and snowboarders will be kept busy too – especially if they’re keen to explore off piste.
3. Poiana-Brasov, Romania
Poiana Brasov is Romania’s biggest mountain resort and certainly one of the nicest. The fairytale slopes, flanked by pine trees, are the perfect place to take your skis. With more than 24km of ski runs, there’s plenty to explore.
4. South Korea -Muju Deogyusan Resort
Muju Deogyusan Resort in Jeolla province is only 3 hours away from Seoul. So, if you want to spend your holiday skiing and still enjoy the city of Seoul, this is the place to go.
5. Niseko Ski Resort
Located in Hokkaido, Japan, Niseko Ski Resort boasts a total of four different resorts but with linked ski area. A single pass would give you access to all four resorts. One of the resorts, Mt. Resort Grand Hirafu has been officially named as Japan’s number one snow resort due to the wide array of activities offered.
6. India - Gulmarg
Gulmarg is a rare gem in the Himalayans that will undoubtedly take your breath away with its picturesque beauty. However, skiing in Gulmarg, Kashmir is not for the weak-hearted as the terrains are not suitable for beginners - to add to that, the ski lifts carry you to the highest point in the Himalaya at 13, 780 feet!
7. China - Nanshan Ski Resort
80km away from Beijing, Nanshan Ski Resort is perfect for skiing and snowboarding as the snow are neither too hard nor too soft.

may i request a stephen strange x fem!reader in which stephen and reader have a purely platonic relationship until one night when they both get a little tipsy which leads to dirty talk which leads to touching which leads to... 👀.
Hehe I love this request a lot. I don't write Stephen often, but when I do he can be difficult but he was sorta gentle yet teasing in this. Thank you for trusting me with writing it and I sincerely hope you enjoy! Minors DNI implied/slight nsfw 18+ only
Unbridled Truth
After having a platonic relationship for years with Stephen, you make it known to him you're willing to take things a step further and you reassure him you are certain of your decision.
All writings belong to me @bakerstreethound (Do NOT claim, repost, copy, or translate my works to other sites. I only publish here and on A03). Graphic by @firefly-graphics Comments and reblogs are greatly appreciated!
“I told you this wasn’t a good idea” Stephen groaned, watching half amused half annoyed at the fact you were utterly obliterating him at Mario Kart. It had been a slow day at the Sanctum and no one but him apparently needed saving after the past five rounds. You were not intent on admitting defeat anytime soon, he wagered.
“I have a better idea and it includes our old fallback of drinking and snacks. Guess you’ve gotta slow down, old man, and take it easy for your ego’s sake.” You chuckled, getting up off the plush area rug and turning off the gaming console throwing him a goofy grin.
If anyone else was to speak to him in such a manner, he’d give it right back to them. But those words coming out of your mouth, well, he can’t help admiring them or you for that matter. Your lips looked so soft, enticing- He shook his head banishing the thoughts altogether.
Keep it together Stephen, it’s not what you want or what she wants. Get ahold of yourself. One thing was for certain: you’re going to be the death of him, and not just by demolishing him in Mario Kart.
Soon after, you both fall into a familiar practiced rhythm, you brought out some shot glasses and a variety of your favorite drinks, sodas, and water while Stephen brought out a variety of snacks, setting them on the coffee table. Cloakie whooshed by, settling along your shoulders before flying away with a quirk of Stephen’s brow.
“We’re really doing this?”
“Do it for me, alright. Wong can beat our asses later.” You deserved at least one day off or two from saving the universe. Wong could definitely complain later.
The hours passed in good company, chortling at jokes and making fun of movies and actors far into the night. You found yourself sitting in Stephen’s lap as usual, your back faced into his chest, his breath hot along the side of your neck, his beard tickling as his hands rested comfortably around your midsection in a gentle hug.
He loved the feel of you next to him, especially while shifting against him to get more comfortable, before tipping back another drink. Something in him craved more of your touch and he found himself wondering if you wanted more.
You expressed freely at the beginning of your relationship you wanted nothing spicy or any physical touch more than necessary, but the scent of you intoxicated him and he grew more delirious with want at your proximity.
He respected your wishes, restraining himself from the blissful want. The multiple drinks he’d taken hadn’t helped matters in the least.
You shifted again on Stephen’s lap, wincing at the twinge in your back, hoping you didn’t disturb him too much. His breath quickened and you catch the hint of a suppressed groan he tried in vain to fight off.
“Stephen, are you alright?”
“Y-yup just enjoying the view, mhmm.” He pulled one of his hands from your waist, gesturing vaguely in the direction of the TV where a snowtopped mountain range comes into view. You’d bet a fifty it was Matterhorn.
You’d also bet that despite his protests, his mind was elsewhere and it was because of you merrily existing on his lap.
You smirked, shifting again to face him, your legs making way to straddle him. “I don’t believe you are. Your mind is far too occupied with something else, isn’t it?” you cooed, brushing away a stray hair from his forehead, your finger barely grazing along his skin.
It’s maddening for him to watch you this way, so close, so far away, definitely out of reach. Despite his mind’s protests, he wanted your touch, even if it was only the barest touch of your fingers stroking his cheek. He doesn’t allow himself the luxury of thinking about that for long.
He didn’t want to move, fearing anything he says you’ll pull away, regretting crossing the line. He never admitted it aloud, for the words held far too great a weight for a man suffering multitudes of losses and universes on his shoulders, but he loved for you and cared so much, more than he let on.
You could feel the love, the longing falls off of him in waves, and oh, how you want to drown yourself beneath them.
What would he think? You made your expectations clear in the beginning, but now, you want to know what it felt like to rile him up to touch him gently, be closer to him than you ever could.
Still, you trusted him more than anyone, and the chemistry and feelings between you though purely platonic had shifted in recent years and you can’t imagine yourself with anyone other than him. Granted he could be an ass at times but he had grown in more ways than once since you met.
“I am occupied, yes.” He spoke, measuring his words carefully. “Have I ever told you I imagine you saying my name pressed up against me and squirming?”
You fight off squirming against him quirking up a brow. “Do you, Stephen, tell me what else have you thought about?”
“You beneath me taking me so well.”
“That’s more like it, tell me what else?” You purr, cardig your fingers through his hair rougher than usual, resisting the urge to tug them. “Did you dream about tying me up to your bed, having me all to yourself? You know I’ve always belonged to you Stephen even if I don’t care for the physical manifestation of it. With you, I feel different. I want. And I want you. All of you.”
He swallowed, looking up at you with his glassy eyes. In them, you saw universes multitudes of them scattered throughout the galaxy and here you are the only universe he cared about, willing openly state your desires.
“Stephen, talk to me.”
“I want - I’d like to touch you, please.” His desire is apparent before you when you move yourself from his hips, shifting comfortably onto his thigh, your gaze piercing into his stunning eyes.
You lifted up his hands, kissing the tops of them gently before setting them comfortably along your waist, a breathless moan falling from his lips as you slowly move along his thigh, relishing the friction.
“That’s it, shit.” You groaned at the feeling of his muscular thigh, honed by years of training and you want more impossibly more. His grip tightened a fraction, slow but deliberate, encouraging you, not on the verge of rushing you, letting you take control of the situation.
You kept working along his thigh, whimpering into his ear, driving him further into the brink of madness, and when your hand trailed down, dripping him through his robes, his eyes grew wide, desperately trying not to appear affected.
“Stephen, talk to me,” you cooed, whimpering at the friction his pants provide as you press kisses into his neck, sucking on hard along his neck, sure to leave bruises.
Truthfully he was a goner before you started this game, an almost cruel joke, but it wasn't, because you made it apparent your intentions had allowed him to accept the boundary you are willing to trust him with and that meant more to him than anything.
The vulnerability, the trust, how could he possibly speak with you like this? You’re a masterpiece sculpted by some other universe, one he feared drowning in and losing you forever.
You silenced his worries kissing him with ignited fervor and longing as he touched you harder, his kisses growing surer and more confident as he lifted you from his lap, pressing you against the wall across the room, just down the corridor from his chambers. He stroked his hand teasingly along your pants, smirking at his effect on you.
“Perhaps you should get down on your knees, Stephen, I always knew you’d look good like that.”
“Careful, we’ll be up until dawn if you say things like that.” He whispered hotly against the shell of your ear, sending shivers down your spine, anticipation brimming inside you. You knew he would hold on to the promise and you’re thankful for the empty Sanctum as you wouldn’t hear the end of it for days on end.
Needless to say, Stephen held true to his promise, more than happy to show what he’d imagined doing to you during one of the many sleepless nights when you filled every conceivable space of his mind, unrelenting and not letting him go. He would show you everything he dreamt of and more. For he wanted. He wanted you. All of you.

Mountains in the Contiguous U.S. by Rise Above Surroundings / Jut
by u/Gigitoe
Jut is an indicator I developed to quantify how sharply/impressively a mountain rises above its surroundings, factoring in both height and steepness. A mountain with a jut of X rises as sharply/impressively as a vertical cliff of height X. Roughly speaking, the higher the jut, the "bigger" and more imposing a mountain appears.
Some things to note:
Jut hotspots (places with the most impressive mountains) include the Cascade Range, North Cascades, Glacier National Park, Grand Teton National Park, Yosemite National Park & Central/Southern Sierra, and Mount San Jacinto. The highest jut in the lower 48 is measured atop Mount Rainier (jut = 1312 m), a massive stratovolcano in the Cascade Range of Washington.
Even though the Colorado Rockies have a high elevation, they have a lower jut than some other mountain ranges in the West, as they rise from a high plateau. The Grand Canyon in Arizona has similar local rise as the highest peaks of the Colorado Rockies, despite having a much lower elevation.
A point with a jut of 10 – 100 m is perhaps more aptly described as a hill. Points with a jut below 10 m do not rise significantly above their surroundings, so they were not included.
Mountains in the rest of the world can have a significantly higher jut. The Matterhorn in the Swiss Alps has a jut of 1451 m. Aconcagua in the Andes of Argentina has a jut of 1827 m. Mount Everest has a jut of 2211 m. The North Peak of Denali in Alaska has a jut of 2549 m. Annapurna Fang in Nepal, the apex of the biggest mountain face on the planet, has a jut of 3395 m, the highest in the world.
This visualization was made possible with Google Earth Engine, MERIT DEM, GeoNames, and QGIS.

Note
what do the "titles" in your bio mean? apologies if theyre something else
SD: Service Dog - not a title, just a designation
Matterhorn: the breeder that produced her
Trial By Fire: what I named her, according to her breeder's litter theme
CGCA: the second level of the CGC, which is not included because it is implied that if she has her CGCA she already has her CGC. The Canine Good Citizen test has 3 levels of difficulty proving obedience and public/street skills in pet dogs.
CGCU: the third level of the CGC, it is not necessary to do the CGCA to get the U.
TKN: Trick Dog Novice, because she had her CGC at the time she performed 5 additional tricks and received this title
Other titles my collective dogs have had:
WAC: Working Aptitude Certificate, which comes from the Working Aptitude Test, which is a doberman-specific temperament test that the American Temperament Test Society based their ATTS on. There are 10 stations of increasing stresaful difficulty, and the dog must aggress an aggressive stranger who attempts to attack the owner. There are no bites in this test- the stranger stops about 10 feet away.
ATT: Adult Temperament Test, another doberman-specific temperament test, this time offered by the United Doberman Club. There are fewer stations, but still no bites. The aggressive stranger stops about 10 feet away and fires a gun.
PTT: Puppy Temperament Test, another doberman-specific temperament test, similar to the ATT but scaled down in difficulty due to age. No aggressive stranger- just friendly strangers, a dropped clipboard, and a crowd. In my opinion all puppies of all breeds should be capable of passing this no problem and if they can't there's a major temperament issue.
RN: Sushi does not have this yet but does have two of three legs towards it. Rally Novice, a basic obedience test in which there are scores and placements. She will get the title when she completes her third leg with a passing score if I ever have time and money and energy to enter again lmao

West Diamond Lake Highway, OR (No. 1)
Mount Thielsen (Klamath: hisc’akwaleeʔas), is an extinct shield volcano in the Oregon High Cascades, near Mount Bailey. Because eruptive activity ceased 250,000 years ago, glaciers have heavily eroded the volcano's structure, creating precipitous slopes and a horn-like peak. The spire-like shape of Thielsen attracts lightning strikes and creates fulgurite, an unusual mineral. The prominent horn forms a centerpiece for the Mount Thielsen Wilderness, a reserve for recreational activities such as skiing and hiking. Thielsen is one of Oregon's Matterhorns.
Thielsen was produced by subduction of the Juan de Fuca Plate under the North American Plate. Volcanism near the Cascades dates back to 55 million years ago (mya), and extends from British Columbia to California. Thielsen is part of the High Cascades, a branch of the main Cascades range that includes several Oregon volcanoes less than 3.5 million years old; it is also a member of a group of extinct volcanoes distinguished by their sharp peaks.
The area surrounding the volcano was originally inhabited by Klamath Native Americans, and was later encountered by settlers. One of the visitors was Jon Hurlburt, an early explorer of the area who named the volcano after the engineer Hans Thielsen. Later explorers discovered nearby Crater Lake. The volcano was not analyzed until 1884, when a team from the United States Geological Survey sampled its fulgurite deposits.

I would be very grateful if you would recommend a fic or fics where John rescues Sherlock from kidnap or imminent danger. I really like Elwingire “How To Unfold a Heart”. Something more in that vein would be very welcome indeed. Thank you so much. And only as your time permits of course.
Reply: I feel like you are the same person who asked for fics where John "saves the day" and weren't satisfied with my response (although elwinglyre's fic was in that collection). So, here is my second attempt. I'm sure there are a lot more, but this is what I've come up with for now:
John rescues Sherlock
Between Friends by SilentAuror (18K, E, Johnlock) Sherlock gets abducted. As John discovers him tied up naked in an empty storage facility and comes to rescue him, Sherlock's body has an unfortunate reaction which triggers a series of events.
hands full of matter by simplyclockwork (21K, E, Johnlock) When Sherlock is captured in Serbia, Mycroft cannot afford to involve the British government in his rescue. Instead, he sends John.
How to Unfold a Heart by elwinglyre (25K, E, Johnlock) Past horrors return unexpectedly in a cryptic note folded in the shape of a heart. To decipher the message, Sherlock must uncover the nature of the hearts around him, including his own.
Red Apples by naughtyspirit (21K, E, Johnlock) John and Sherlock work on a new case where the perpetrator seems overly fond of Grimm fairytales.
Summit Fever by J_Baillier (78K, M, Johnlock, past Jolto) After graduating from medical school, John Watson followed his heart to the Himalayas. Ten years later, he's a haunted cynic working for his ex-lover's trekking and mountaineering company.
The Night Riviera from Paddington to Penzance and Back Again by Iwantthatcoat (12K, M, Johnlock) Mrs Hudson has decided her boys need a little vacation way from London. Devil's Foot adaptation.
To Be Human by ohlooktheresabee (78K, T, Johnlock) There is a serial killer on the loose with a penchant for collecting the brains of his victims. Something about the chosen victims has Sherlock on edge.
Underground Rescue by khorazir (48K, M, Johnlock) When Sherlock goes missing, John has to play detective to find him.
Whiteout by sincewhendoyoucallme_John (37K, M, Johnlock) A documentary crew follows the Matterhorn aerial rescue team from Air Zermatt, profiling the mechanics, pilots, and paramedics as they save patients on the infamous mountain.
Winter's Storm by LoloLolly (51K, M, Johnlock) Sherlock is kidnapped and tortured by his previous captors.

Starbucks has been capturing the hearts of travelers and collectors for over three decades with their iconic mugs, beginning in 1994 with the City Mug Collector Series. This series celebrated cities across the globe, including newly introduced markets like London, Bangkok, and Paris. The journey continued with the Skyline Series in 2002, showcasing the distinctive cityscapes of each locale, followed by the City Scenes Series in 2004 and the Architecture Series in 2006. In 2008, the Global Series introduced a more expressive design palette, embracing a wider array of subjects. This evolution of design led to the whimsical, hand-drawn icons of the Been There Series, launched in 2018. Among the Been There Series, the Disney theme parks have been a recurring inspiration, with multiple editions capturing the magic of these destinations. In 2021, Disneyland's second edition of its Been There mug featured a nod to a Matterhorn trash can in its artwork. How appropriate! Do you have any Starbucks Been There mugs from the parks? // Starbucks, Been There Mug, Disneyland v2, 2022 [Source: Jeremiah Good. Used by Permission.]

A lot of time, people who don’t climb mountains assume is about this great heroic sprint for the summit, and somehow this great ego-driven ambition. But actually it’s the reverse. It’s about supplication and sacrifice and humility, when you go to these mountains. It’s not so much a celebration of oneself but the eradication of one’s self-consciousness. And so on these walks you lose yourself, you become a vessel of energy in harmony hopefully with your environment. One thrives on enthusiasm, curiosity, humility.
Julian Sands
I was saddened to read that the dead remains of Julian Sands were finally found in the San Gabriel Mountains near Los Angeles. I hadn’t realised how deeply immersed he really was in just wearing all weather anorak, a thermos flask of tea, and a laminated Ordinance Map before he set off on an arduous hike or a climb.
As great as a character actor Julian Sands was, he was also an accomplished mountaineer. He once described himself as happiest when “close to a mountain summit on a glorious cold morning”, climbed all around the world, including the Andes and Indonesia’s Puncak Jaya, the highest mountain on an island and the only place in the country where you can find snow. I know it’s an arduous climb having done it myself. It requires a weeks-long hike through remote jungle and some chasms which can only be crossed by Tyrolean traverse ziplines.
Julian Sands was on his way to completing the dream of most mountaineering aficionados: competing the Seven Summits. It’s a considerable undertaking in every way not just the obvious physical costs but also the average cost of completing all seven which can rack up to £150,000.
Sands had done five - Aconcagua, Puncak Jaya (Oceania), Mont Blanc (Europe), Vinson (Antarctica) and Kilimanjaro (Africa) - and had only had Denali (North America) and Everest (Asia) left.
Sands also took on the Weisshorn in the Swiss Alps. Now this is revealing as any experienced or passionate mountaineer would tell you. The nearby Matterhorn may be more famous, but many mountaineers consider the Weisshorn both more beautiful, with its symmetrical triangular pyramid shape and pure white slopes, and more challenging too, combining a long and serious route with delicate rock pitches and steep snow climbing. I know I do. It’s an incredible climb to experience which I did with some army veteran friends of mine.
Sands death is a tragedy as his passion for mountaineering was inspiring. I was nodding my head when I read that Sands once began a telephone interview by saying, “Right now I’m looking across the North Face of the Eiger towards the Jungfrau. Spectacular!” But then he rang the journalist back several hours later from a bivouac to impress upon him that, though he was climbing the Eiger, he was going up the easier Mittellegi Ridge rather than the feared North Face. “Mountain and climbing folk, and a small percentage of your readers, will know the difference.” Yes, I thought, Sands gets it. I bowled over by his humility and his honesty generously bound up with his joie de vivre. These are the values of real mountaineers in seeking to climb the mountains of the mind.
RIP Julian Sands (1958-2023).

Disney's Club 33 65th Anniversary Ears
As thee certified Disney adult, an actor in many Disney productions, and a frequent visitor to Disneyland Parks, Harvey often sports limited edition or exclusive Disney merch that would make anyone with a drop of Disney-fueled childhood nostalgia sputter with envy a la Donald Duck. These Disneyland Club 33 Matterhorn 65th Anniversary Loungefly ears from his recent IG post are certainly no exception!
For those who are unfamiliar (as I was until I started researching these ears for this post), Club 33 is an exclusive, members-only network of private dining clubs at Disney parks and resorts, including Disneyland Parks in Anaheim, California. The club primarily caters to a VIP clientele of socialites, wealthy executives, celebrities, politicians, and other public figures and their families. Club members enjoy a variety of perks, among them access to exclusive merchandise. (Wikipedia Article on Club 33)
This pair of ears was released as part of a larger 65th anniversary collection on March 31st, 2024. The collection included a backpack, spirit jersey, pins, a mug, and other items. The collection was available only to Club 33 members upon initial release, though several items can now be found for resale online.
The ears, which are made of a simulated leather, feature the Matterhorn and Harold the Yeti on one side, and a Matterhorn 65th and Club 33 print on the other. They were the first Club 33 ears not to feature a bow, and originally retailed for $50. (Source)
You can find the ears on eBay on their own for between $150-$250, or as part of a larger group of items from the collection for anywhere from $200-$600, depending on the items included and their condition.

fell into a rabbit hole on youtube today (completely normal for me) and found a playlist of disney dvd game walkthroughs
and can i just say. i strive to achieve this level of camp
In the Snow White game, the magic mirror is lowkey snarky with the player, and says the Evil Queen "has ISSUES"
Timon and Stitch are for some reason in the Aladdin game ?
Gilbert Gottfried actually comes back just to voice Iago in the tour of the Genie's lamp (which includes references to Jungle Cruise, 20000 Leagues Under the Sea, and The Jungle Book)
Pumbaa and Timon's safari rides REGULARLY break the 4th wall ("where do we go? there's no arrows on the screen!")
Pumbaa and Timon ALSO create a ride (Virtual Safari 1.5) that parodies Pirates of the Caribbean, Mr.Toad's Wild Ride, Haunted Mansion, It's a Small World, and Expedition Everest/The Matterhorn Bobsleds like. Cinema!!!!
i also think it's really funny that every movie has a silly game EXCEPT for Beauty and the Beast & the straight-to-dvd Christmas sequel, where the stakes are SO HIGH, because if you don't complete the game, the curse will never be broken.
ANYWAY back to Timon and Pumbaa. guys they made Who Wants to Be a Millionaire. It's called Who Wants to Be King of the Jungle. It's amazing. Meredith Vieira is there. it's amazing.

Hamish MacInnes, the Scottish mountaineer, explorer, mountain search and rescuer, author, inventor, movie stunt co-ordinator and all round good guy, was born on July 7th 1930.
MacInnes was born in Gatehouse of Fleet, in the historical county of Kirkcudbrightshire in Galloway, his father's surname was McInnes, but Hamish, according to some he "later adopted the more distinctive Scottish spelling of the family name". Hamish was the youngest child amongst five siblings. He had three sisters and a brother who was eighteen years older than Hamish.
The legend of Hamish MacInnes began early. At 16 he climbed the Matterhorn. At 17 he built his first motor car from scratch. He attempted Everest in 1953 with his friend Johnny Cunningham. As an explorer, expedition leader, and engineer he achieved world fame. author of the International Mountain Rescue Handbook and founder of Glencoe Mountain Rescue he has been responsible for saving hundreds of lives, if not thousands.
Keen to improve mountain safety, he was also a technical innovator whose invention of an all-metal ice axe and a lightweight folding stretcher for rescues – which became known as the “MacInnes stretcher” – were landmark developments that were widely used and much lauded. Author of 26 books on mountaineering topics, including fiction, Hamish became heavily involved in film and documentary work, which included making his own programmes and acting as safety and location adviser, climbing double and stunt man.
MacInnes, also known as “Fox of Glencoe” for his esteemed climbing reputation, made headlines when he was asked to shoot footage for Clint Eastwood's 1975 thriller The Eiger Sanction, other movie projects included Highlander, Monty Python and the Holy Grail and The Mission.
In 2014 he was misdiagnosed with dementia leading to being sectioned for over a year in psychiatric hospitals before a correct diagnosis of urinary tract infection was made, allowing him to return home, but bereft of memory. In the BBC film, The Final Ascent: The Legend of Hamish MacInnes. Introduced by his friend, Michael Palin, it recounts the story of MacInnes's life and achievements, and how he used archive footage, his photographs and his many books to "recover his memories and rescue himself".
Hamish MacInnes died on 22nd November 2020, aged 90, at his home in Glen Coe.
Writing on his death, The Scotsman said, "No one man has done more to help put in place the network of emergency response efforts designed to keep climbers from harm’s way, and it seems that MacInnes took just as much pleasure in helping to rescue people as he did in making record-breaking ascents.”

Adventuresses We Love – Fanny Bullock Workman
Adventuress Fanny Workman’s exploits included bicycling across Europe, Algeria, Egypt, and India, but she’s best remembered as one of the first female professional mountaineers. She was one of the first women to climb the Matterhorn and explored the Himalaya. But it’s her adventures on a pair of glaciers that we’re highlighting today.
It was on her first trip to the Himalaya that Fanny and her husband tackled Pakistan’s Skoro La Glacier. She reached its peak, which she named Siegfriedhorn after her late son. At 18,600 ft, this summit was the highest any woman had climbed at the time. She would go higher while exploring the peaks surrounding the glacier, and in so doing became the first woman to see K2.
In 1911/1912, Workman organized and led an expedition through uncharted territory to Pakistan’s Kaberi Glacier. It was a dangerous trek – one of her guides was killed when he fell into a crevasse, and Fanny herself was lucky to escape – but the band ultimately succeeded in their exploration. Near the end of it, on Silver Throne Plateau, at over 21,000 ft., the ardent suffragette unfurled a “Votes for Women” newspaper for what would become an iconic photograph.
With the onset of World War I, Workman retired from exploring and turned instead to writing and lecturing. She became the first American woman to lecture at the Sorbonne and one of the first women admitted to the Royal Geographic Society.
Adventuress Fanny Bullock Workman died Jan. 22, 1925, after a long illness. She was 66.
