It is funny sometimes seeing people get uppity about translators not doing exactly 1:1 translations of media, whether it be a book or a game or a series- and I get it from the perspective of say, 90s and 2000s anime adaptations that completely altered plot points, completely nixed entire lines of dialogue or alter characters enough that they were barely reminiscent of the original- think Sailor Moon and how the US dub censored anything gay in it. Those complaints I understand, completely.
And then with the advent of translating tools sometimes a company has pretty clearly been cheap or lazy and has just slapped it into an online translator and hodge podged it together, losing a lot of important details along the way, just to save on paying a proper translator and that is something I find absolutely shitty and extremely fair to point out- especially when it's a big corporation.
But the flipside people seem to forget is that sometimes there's not an exact word to translate to. Sometimes translations done to T will lose the humour or the feeling of the original so the translator will change it just enough to still get the expression across in a similar way as the original without bogging it down or losing its charm- localising something isn't always a bad thing as long as it overall stays true to the original. Translation is an art at the end of the day, sometimes whats on the page needs a little extra help to really pop, I have a lot of respect for the people who put in the effort.

Something I've been struggling with for a while now...
Tumblr media
I absolutely love meeting people with the same interests as me! It's so cool! Unfortunately I am convinced if I make one simple mistake in spelling I am going to get rocks thrown at me. I am in so many discord servers I've hardly spoken in, or no longer chat in because these irrational fears have wormed their way into my brain and made it difficult to interact online. I'm trying my best to push past it though, because there's some cool people out there I'd absolutely love to befriend. <3

The key problem with "proship vs anti" discourse is that the most extreme versions of each side, the ones who actually bother to identify with these labels, accepted each others worst takes as arguments they had to debate. "Fiction =/= reality" is, in practice, an absurdly reductionist, anti-intellectual, thought-terminating-cliche that dictates we can learn nothing about a person via art and that their fiction reflects no political or moral messaging worthy of critique. In response to this, the "puriteens" who are too young to possibly hope to articulate their discomfort, to untangle their position from what is often real trauma experienced online, simply argue "yes, fiction influences and reflects reality in a 1 to 1 capacity." They, and people who want to use the groundwork they laid to make bad-faith callouts, make bad arguments about how the action of engaging in problematic fiction is on equal ground to real life abuse, or is a clear indicator of interest in real life abuse. Both of these arguments are terrible, but each side seems to radicalize the other further and further into their own brands of anti-intellectual reactionary belief. "Proshippers" become libertarian absolutists about free speech and view all transgression as righteous and alternative and therefore leftist. They gain a reactionary nostalgia for the past, desiring a time when people didn't seem to care about the implications of art. "Antis" become authoritarian and hypervigilant for signs of moral decay, at their worst, willing to align themselves with government bodies that offer carceral solutions to the debate. They are willing to use harassment as a tool of punishment, which then leads to false accusations and a fear of openness that puts people at risk of being triggered via obfuscation. (That said, proshippers also take part in plenty of harassment.)
I will say that I believe both of these movements are equally sensitive to co-opting by right-wing forces. We see the authoritarian tendencies of anti culture in harassment campaigns and even the way Republican law makers co-opt "grooming." The proship/fic crowd has such extreme nostalgia for the past that I often see people align themselves with the cultures of 4chan or other happily right-wing websites. They so heavily reject the idea that a drawn sexual depiction of a child could reflect any desire that they are disinterested in analyzing what the motivation behind the depiction is. i.e If we track the history of lolicon in Japan we do find that is, yes, countercultural, but that counter culture is right wing, very misogynistic, and defensive of patriarchial Japanese culture as it is and was including its culture around rape and abuse. Plenty of fictional content works as radicalization material, and radicalization material needs to be ambiguous. There is a valid reason to be hesitant to trust people who consume this content, even if I do not believe most of them will ever be dangerous towards children. The mere presence of sexuality is not enough to make a movement left wing. This kind of thing can again be seen in right-wing libertarian movements in the US. (And even leftist movements can be bigoted and even "pro-pedophilia" or otherwise disinterested in social reform around abuse.)
Is all content with elements of age-play this way? No. But to me, that is why kink media deserves to be treated as art and analyzed, critiqued, treated seriously. It doesn't have to do anything to anyone to be worthy of a moral critique. Said moral critique just doesn't warrant harassment and cruelty and reactionary exaggerations of the person consuming said content.
Anyway, what's my point in saying all this? I don't know. I'm just begging you to tag your God damn content with specific tags instead of random and nebulous shit like "dead dove" or "dark content", and also begging you to stop harassing people who do tag their content so I don't have to guess what "dead dove" and "dark content" mean. No one will erase incest kink fics or people who feel sickened by the idea of them off this earth because we aren't god, but we could at least all be responsible about tagging, flagging, and age-gating our stuff.

GoodTimesWithScar x Gucci
Part 3/18 of LifeStyle: A Life Series Fashion Zine
-
Scar is such an uplifting and fun creator and I love his energy so much. I always watch his POV of the series, much like Cleo and Grian, and I love watching him stream while I work.
-
While typically I stay true to the exact design of the pieces as much as I can, I did modify the jacket shape to fit better while seated in a wheelchair and accommodate for the support strap (shorter crop to maintain silhouette, and open up the back to accommodate for sitting an support needs).
Some notes on accessible and adaptive clothing that got too long for the main body of the post:
Some of the other accessible clothing adjustments I would've made in real life aren't really visible in the piece, aren't relevant for an editorial-style shoot like this (since they're only worn for a short period of time for a specific look, vs long-term practical wear), etc. For example, a higher fit for the pants and longer cut of shirt in the back to accommodate fit while seated isn't visible in this piece even though I kept it in mind, sensory-friendly clothing and avoiding things like belts for long periods for comfort aren't really relevant for the illustration, and placing accessible openings for medical ports is more relevant to real-life conditions and knowing where those ports would be rather than a one-off fashion drawing.
All that being said, however, I wanted to talk about it because it's important to keep accessibility and adaptability of clothing in mind when designing and styling, especially if you're not disabled yourself. It's something fashion has a responsibility to be aware of and help to support (and maybe doesn't do as well as it should) and I highly encourage you to research specific needs for adaptable clothing and learn more if you plan on drawing or making disabled characters in the future. There are tons of resources about accessible and adaptive clothing online, depending on what a person's or character's needs would be, and I encourage research for all!!

Am thinking about non transmigration au where SY discovers his sexuality via 400k of unposted Mobing...
My thoughts are as such:
Right before the end of PIDW Airplane posts an update that basically says "Hey due to a mix of health and personal reasons I won't be able to post for a while sorry!!"
SY, who is in the hospital with horrible food poisoning isn't happy about this!! Something like this right after a cliffhanger??? Really??? And he's not got a lot else to do In the hospital, so he kind of... accidentally... doxxes Airplane...
He was just looking for an account that he thought that hack author would check since he's obviously not looking at zhongdian, honest!!! But it turns out that this person lives somewhat nearby where SY does and is much cuter than he expected some hack author to be
So he maybe goes to wander around the area (its nearby!! He's allowed to go on walks isn't he!!) And as a matter of fact finds Airplane!! Right on the sidewalk!!!
And starts off with a rather aggressive introduction before realizing that his favorite shitty erotica author 1) has obviously healing electrocution burns, 2) is?? Way too skinny? Like on par with SY himself and hes chronically ill, 3) is standing outside a social services office and 4) appears to be carrying everything he owns with him on his back
He immediately feels so guilty that he pivots from angry ranting to guiltily offering him a place to stay or, he can at least pay for a hotel room?? SQH does a very brief amount of mental calculus on if he'd rather deal with government bureaucracy or getting kidnapped and axe murdered by a crazy fan, shrugs, and chooses the latter.
When SQH point out that he can't pay SY back in any way SY tells him that he can pay him back by writing a better novel!!! SQH teases him about being a devoted fan and offers to let him read some unpublished extras and backstory stuff (like SJ & YQY backstory, that sort of thing). Predictably, SY likes this a lot more and complains that it wasn't in the novel, in turn Airplane laments that if more readers were like SY he wouldn't be in this situation in thr first place.
Related: SQH can't update because his laptop is fried. SY claims "to know a guy". SY does not know a guy, but he has money, so... (the files are fine and saved in like 3 different cloud locations, Airplane already learned that lesson)
But PIDW ended on a cliffhanger! SY doesn't want to wait!!! So he bothers Airplane until he finds out that Airplane actually haS two endings waiting in the wings and he still hasn't decided which one to post. Reason being: he's kinda 80% done with writing a sequel of sorts, but he knows if he posts it it will basically get his zhongdian account nuked and remove his chances of making money from it ever again, because the current readers of PIDW would HATE IT
Sy eventually argues that *he's* a reader and that Airplane should let *him* read it and if he deems it good then it's certainly good enough to post!! SQH finds this very funny because SY is not the average PIDW at all, but decides to allow it
The sequel in question is a slow burn romance from Mobei-Juns point of view that leans heavily into drama and political intrigue. He stands by Binghes side and quietly pines and remains loyal and Binghe slowly discovers that devoted loyalty and understanding is actually the thing that makes him happy (vs empty relationships with his many wives)
(Mobei Jun is written in a very grey-ace way, not understanding the carnal desires of other demons but would do anything for Junshang if asked etc etc)
SY ADORES this book and thinks that if it were posted online it would be his #1 favorite. He really relates to MBJ as a protagonist and Binghe is still the best!! And then he is completely blindsided when the two of them have tender emotional gay sex
Being SY, he absolutely tries to justify this to himself as like, aha, what a clever subversion...! You can tell because this sex scene was way better written then all the ones in PIDW, but obviously they aren't gay (He is too flustered to bring this up to Airplane in person despite having no problem doing so with the het stuff)
The novel ends with, like, Bingge sealing away Xin mo and promising to be just as loyal to his general as MBJ is to him, and is very obviously romantic to the point that even SY can't miss it. So he goes back and rereads it to make sure it was actually meant to be a romance (...danmei) novel all along. And then again just to make sure and he's kinda losing his mind a little because he really related to MBJ in this book and... MBJ had gay sex??
Of course you also have the "and they were roommates" situation going on at the same time. The rituals are intricate. Airplane is aware that's he's giving SY some kind of sexuality crisis but he has no idea how intense! He's genuinely fine having an unrequited crush on SY. Homoerotically teasing him is fun and it doesn't have to go further than that! Hes not really in a place to be doing any dating anyways and bro-cuddles have him covered!
Side note: I like the idea of SY being very proud when Airplane gains weight bc its Physical proof that he's taking good care of his friend and also maybe catering to what he finds attractive
When SY finally gets to the point where he asks about his sexuality, Airplane pretty much gives him the "I don't see a point in labels, I just like who I like" speech.
SY who loves categorizing and labeling things: can you do that?? Is that allowed??????
He then gets pointed to Baby's First LGBTQ resource website, and after determining that he's maybe not gay but maybe is something else immediately jumps into googling "how to date your best friend who is also your roommate"

Hallu. Prospective game dev, here.
Was wondering if you could give some advice.
What game engine would you suggest for an open world-ish Multiplayer game.
Super TL;DR'd synopsis:
Asymmetric Multiplayer (1-4 vs Comp/1-2)
RPG elements with customizable characters
Large procedurally generated maps
Wide variety of "Enemy" player characters
Sort of a super sized, super cereal game of Hide-and-Seek
I'd like for it to be playable on as many systems as possible in terms of hardware requirements. If it can be comfortably played on a laptop, that'd be perfect.
Would love to hear your thoughts.
as much as it pains me to say this, my advice is 'do not make this game as your first project'
open world online multiplayer rpg game is one of the most difficult games to make, entire studios struggle to make games like this.
my advice is to start small. make a game with 1/5th of the scope here. make mistakes, fix those mistakes, learn and grow. your next game will be 2/5ths of the scope. work ur way up until you are a seasoned developer multiple games into your career. then and only then would i suggest you attempt to tackle one of the most complicated games that could be made.
i've had this conversation with a lot of people over the years, and one of the most common responses is 'well i dont care if this'll take a decade, i'll stake it out and get it released no matter how long it takes'. my response to this is that it isnt a question of time, but skill. if you try to build an entire house as your first workshop project it doesnt matter how long it takes if the foundations (the thing you build first when you are at your least skilled) are rickety and falling apart. it will fail no matter what.
i know this is probably the last thing you want to hear, and you are free to do whatever you wish with this advice, but as a person who attempted to make an entire zelda ripoff on my own as one of my first projects and only released a 1 hour long game with no free exploration after 4 long years, it is what i urge you to do

New zine for sale!
"What are your pronouns?"
A very specific guide to talking about trans people with confidence and respect
It's aiming to be a beginner-to-advanced guide for allies, with an informative and nerdy tone. It explains:
Third-person, personal, singular pronouns (with established examples)
Why learning new pronouns is harder than learning new names
Why singular they always has plural verbs (always "you are" and not "you is", even when talking about one person)
How to use they/them for nonbinary people (including themselves vs. themself)
How to mess up gracefully (with a focus on making it more comfortable for the trans person)
What neopronouns are
This zine is 36 sides of A5, with 120 gsm 100% recycled paper pages and 100% recycled card cover, handstitch-bound.
It's informed by my 12 years or so of running the Gender Census and gathering data from tens of thousands of nonbinary and gender-divergent people, so this might be the closest I've gotten to official Gender Census merch!

Group Chess Lessons vs. One-on-One Online Training: A Comparison
Tumblr media
In the ever-evolving world of chess education, one question consistently arises for aspiring players and parents alike: “What’s better-group chess lessons vs. one-on-one online training?” This debate has grown even more relevant with the rise of virtual learning platforms, and as more players-of all ages-turn to the internet to sharpen their game.
If you’re navigating the world of chess coaching methods and trying to choose the best way to improve chess skills, you’re not alone. Thousands of learners face the same crossroads: Group environment or personalized approach? There’s no one-size-fits-all answer, but by understanding the pros, cons, and deeper nuances of both, you can make a decision that accelerates your growth on the board.
To help guide you, we’ll be tapping into the wisdom and experience of FIDE Instructor Dhanesh Shrikhande, a well-respected chess coach known for his work with students of all ages and levels. His insights-and our research-will break down the factors that make a real difference in learning outcomes.
Understanding the Core of Chess Coaching Methods
Before we dive deep into comparisons, let’s define the two approaches.
Group Chess Lessons
These are classes where multiple students learn together under one coach. Sessions are typically structured, with a shared curriculum that caters to a generalized skill level. Students interact with each other, participate in group exercises, and often play games with classmates.
One-on-One Online Training
This is personalized instruction delivered over platforms like Zoom or ChessBase, where a single student works directly with a coach. Lessons are tailored, interactive, and adaptive based on the learner’s strengths and weaknesses.
Each approach is grounded in solid chess coaching methods, but the delivery, impact, and results differ widely.
Key Comparison: Group Chess Lessons vs. One-on-One Online Training
Let’s break it down by categories that matter most to learners and parents.
Personalization
One-on-One Online Training wins hands-down when it comes to personalization. Since the coach is focused solely on you, lessons are adapted to your skill level, style of play, and even your personality. Personalized chess lessons online make it possible to fix bad habits quickly, build confidence, and progress at your own pace.
On the other hand, Group Chess Lessons follow a fixed schedule and plan. They may be categorized into beginner, intermediate, or advanced levels, but customization is minimal.
“In one-on-one sessions, I get to truly understand a student’s thought process. That allows me to guide them better, rather than just delivering a lecture,” says FIDE Instructor Dhanesh Shrikhande.
Winner: One-on-One Online Training
Social Interaction and Peer Learning
Group Chess Class Effectiveness shines when it comes to interaction. Students can observe others’ mistakes, learn from group discussions, and participate in mini-tournaments. This can be motivating and especially helpful for younger students who benefit from peer engagement.
While One-on-One Chess Coaching Advantages are undeniable, it can sometimes feel isolating for those who thrive in a group setting.
Winner: Group Chess Lessons
Pacing and Progression
In one-on-one training, you move at your own speed. Struggling with endgames? Your coach will slow down. Mastered basic tactics? You’ll skip ahead. This tailored pacing is one of the top online chess training benefits and critical for fast, focused improvement.
In contrast, group classes move at a collective pace. If you’re ahead or behind the curve, you may find it difficult to stay fully engaged or challenged.
Winner: One-on-One Online Training
Interactive Chess Lessons Online
Both formats offer interactive chess lessons online, but the depth of interactivity varies. In one-on-one sessions, the entire focus is on you. The coach might analyze your games, set custom puzzles, and simulate scenarios tailored for your learning.
Group classes might include quizzes and team-based tactics, but one-on-one sessions tend to dive much deeper.
Winner: One-on-One Online Training

one of the unfortunate issues with young people and/or naive people online learning "social justice" from social media for the first time ever (which is not a value judgement), and learning a weird "privilege vs. virtue" paradigm about minority classes, is that they seem oblivious to the fact that there are a lot of people who do not care about ""their people"" and will take the opportunity to scam the shit out of poor, desperate communities they have an "in" with. so you'll have people who promote, like, weird instagram "healers" as having the truth even though it takes 7 seconds to realize they're a grifter who sells $500 classes on zoom with no accreditation on anything and a website that drop ships cheap-o bullshit. or reblog every e-begging post they can find. idk how to tell you this, but even disabled non white poor gay people can lie their asses off, if they even are any of those things. even though white mormon moms have a death grip on the mlm market, they really aren't the only ones out there getting people's asses into debt. "but why would a former cancer patient sell false medicine?" bc getting cancer doesn't make you a good person. "but why would a disabled person lie about their disability summer program?" bc being disabled doesn't make you a good person. "but why would a queer poly thruple of black autistic lesbians lie about their therapy services?" bc they aren't good people and they wanted to make fast money!! it's always the answer, if they scammed people it's because they aren't good people and they wanted to make fast money. and they love dopes that will promote them so they can make more money even faster. they'll drop everything in a heartbeat when the heat comes bc it wasn't a legitimate business, and because they aren't good ppl and it was about making fast money.
so, like, it's okay to be discerning. it's okay to be like "hmmm, I think selling $100 fertility candles and diet cleanses on instagram under the guise of ancient wisdom and colonial trauma is, actually, very suspicious" even if that person "looks like" they "should know" what they're talking about.
