It is funny sometimes seeing people get uppity about translators not doing exactly 1:1 translations of media, whether it be a book or a game or a series- and I get it from the perspective of say, 90s and 2000s anime adaptations that completely altered plot points, completely nixed entire lines of dialogue or alter characters enough that they were barely reminiscent of the original- think Sailor Moon and how the US dub censored anything gay in it. Those complaints I understand, completely.
And then with the advent of translating tools sometimes a company has pretty clearly been cheap or lazy and has just slapped it into an online translator and hodge podged it together, losing a lot of important details along the way, just to save on paying a proper translator and that is something I find absolutely shitty and extremely fair to point out- especially when it's a big corporation.
But the flipside people seem to forget is that sometimes there's not an exact word to translate to. Sometimes translations done to T will lose the humour or the feeling of the original so the translator will change it just enough to still get the expression across in a similar way as the original without bogging it down or losing its charm- localising something isn't always a bad thing as long as it overall stays true to the original. Translation is an art at the end of the day, sometimes whats on the page needs a little extra help to really pop, I have a lot of respect for the people who put in the effort.

Hi i dont know if you remember but i was the anon who had sent you an ask about the untamed. I just finished watching it. Damn it was great. Loved it. Although i wish they would have shot a different ending scene for the international viewers or sth with them kissing or at least hugging. Is even a hug not allowed?? Also the views. Such beautiful nature esp at the end. I want to go hiking there. And i have the urge to consume so much more of the untamed. What should i do? Where shall i start? :D
okay first of all anonny: do i remember you? i wrote you an essay on the untamed that was probably longer and better researched than what i handed in last week in my literature class dsfghjklfds of course i remember!
i'm glad you liked the show, anon, i'm on my second rewatch tbh because i loved it so much the first time ^^ regarding what you said about shooting different scenes for international viewers: i think the problem there would have been that doing something like that could have seriously impaired xiao zhan and wang yibo's careers, you know? wang yibo is only 22 and for xiao zhan i believe his portrayal of wei wuxian was really his breakthrough. i think it is important to understand that the situation when it comes to homosexuality is severe in china and since they are both chinese and, of course, chinese actors working in china, i think they really couldn’t afford a controversy that big. as for a hug: while i would have loved to see a hug, i don’t really think the show needed it after all. i almost lost my mind every time wwx and lwj held onto each other’s arms already, i'm not sure i would have even survived a hug dsfhjklfds imo wang yibo and xiao zhan did such a great job portraying this intense and all-consuming love wwx & lwj have for each other just with their eyes & body-language that i don't think they had to show it more explicitly. also! i think wwx & lwj's actions throughout the series really speak louder than anything else. so yeah, if the situation in china wasn't what it is i would have loved to see them kiss and hold each other, but i still think what we got is so beautiful really ❤️
and yeah the sets and nature are so beautiful! like every scene set in lotus cove always had me thinking: i wanna live there, i wanna live there, i wanna live there!! like it just all looked so pretty and peaceful, i adore it.
as for more content, there are currently two spin-off movies released (but i think they're even gonna do another one!) called the living dead and fatal journey respectively. they’re unfortunately not on youtube as far as i'm aware so you will have to stream them, you can stream fatal journey here and the living dead here. fatal journey deals with nie mingjue & nie huaisang's relationship with jin guangyao and with nie mingjue's death. the living dead follows wen ning and lan sizhui. both are definitely worth a watch, but fatal journey might just leave you in tears tbh so be warned dsghjlfds
of course then there's the novel modao zushi which the show is based on. there is no official translated book you can buy, but you can read the full book translated into english here. the novel includes kisses and sex scenes (😏), but since you've watched the show first i feel like i gotta let you know that the storylines differ quite a bit from novel to show. the characters are the same, the characterization is the same, some scenes are even the same only that they play out differently in the show than in the book. it's just two different mediums and as we all know for live action quite a lot needs to be changed.
there is a donghua (chinese anime) about the story which you can watch on youtube here. as far as i know, having not watched it yet myself, the animation is good and the story, while a bit more superficial than the novel, but it still follows it pretty closely. there is also a manhua (chinese manga) which you can read online here. as far as i'm aware, again not having read it, the manhua follows the novel very faithfully and is the most loyal adaptation, together with the audio drama. both the donghua and the manhua are not finished though, just so you know dsgfhjds
the audio drama is commonly said to follow the book storyline closest and is the favorite adaptation of many fans. you can join a discord server to download the audio drama with fansubs here but if you have some money to spare you can also follow the tutorial in this tweet and buy it and thus support the ceators of the audio drama who really put a lot of work into it :) an added bonus of the audio drama is that the same voice actors who dubbed wei wuxian and lan wangji in the untamed live action, lu zhixing & bian jiang, also voice them in the audio drama, so you get to hear the voices you already associate with them say all the actual romantic stuff ^^ they also voice the characters in the donghua btw
so..... after this really long info dump i hope you'll have fun watching the spin-off movies and maybe checking out the novels and its' other adaptations! ❤️

The thing about leaving the house early this time of the year means we get to see the sun rise as we approach this beautiful city by the water… no matter how many times I do the journey I am enamored with the beauty of this place, so much to see and do,  wonderful beaches, great restaurants, night clubs, shopping places, the list goes on and on.. it’s more than just a place the plane lands, and well worth a look…
MARVEL GET ITS FIRST OFFICIAL CHINESE SUPERHEROES……No it’s not Trump… The first ever Chinese superheroes have officially entered the Marvel universe. Aero and Lin Lie are just two of a batch of Chinese characters making their debut in graphic novels this week. Co-authored by Marvel and NetEase, one of China's biggest online comic platforms, they are a clear push by Marvel to attract more fans across the lucrative Chinese market. We may even see them interacting with Marvel heroes like Hulk and Iron Man. Lin Lie is the main protagonist in one of the new comics, which loosely translates as Warriors of Three Sovereigns. The story revolves around the 18-year-old boy who picks up an ancient sword to fight against Chiyou - a reincarnated villain intent on destroying mankind. The second comic, which translates to Cyclone, features Aero also known as Lei Ling - she's an architect by day, who happens to be able to control air currents. By night, she uses her superpowers to save her city from various villains. Aero, known also by her Chinese name Lei Ling, is able to control air currents Will we see them alongside classic Marvel characters. There's no official confirmation, but if you look closely there's an Easter egg in the first issue of the Warriors of Three Sovereigns - a picture of Iron Man's mask can be seen in Lin Lie's room. A sign Tony Stark and his Avenger colleagues could show up some time?
RICH LIST 2018: JIM RATCLIFFE IS UK'S RICHEST MAN…. A businessman who once lived in a council house near Manchester is the richest person in the UK, according to the Sunday Times Rich List. Jim Ratcliffe, who founded chemical firm Ineos, topped the list with an estimated worth of £21.05bn - after coming 18th last year. Two of the company's directors are also on the list, which ranks Britain's wealthiest 1,000 people or families. Jamie Oliver and fashion tycoon Sir Philip Green saw their fortunes drop. Mr Ratcliffe, 65, moved from the council house in Failsworth to East Yorkshire as a boy. He went to Beverley Grammar School, studied chemical engineering at Birmingham University, and got an MBA from London Business School, according to a Financial Times profile. His father, who was a joiner, went on to run a factory that made laboratory furniture, while his mother worked in an accounts office. Mr Ratcliffe's firm is currently locked in a legal battle with the Scottish government over its moratorium on fracking. His wealth leapt by £15bn in the past year - partly because of a revaluation of his assets. He is the first UK-born person to top the rich list since the Duke of Westminster in 2003.
MOTORISED SHED HITS 100MPH TO BREAK SPEED RECORD AT PENDINE SANDS…. The Fastest Shed has lived up to its name and beat its own record time, reaching 101mph. A souped-up motorised shed has broken its own land speed record on a Welsh beach as it hit 100mph. The Fastest Shed smashed its previous 80mph (129km/h) record for the fastest shed at a land speed event at Pendine Sands in Carmarthenshire on Saturday. Owner Kevin Nicks said it was "marvellous" to hit 101mph (160 km/h) in what he said was the only road legal motorised shed in the world. "It couldn't have gone better, I'm so happy," said the 53-year-old gardener. Mr Nicks, from Chipping Norton in Oxfordshire, spent more than £13,000 creating his bespoke shed on wheels, which now boasts a turbo-charged 400 brake horsepower engine that is more powerful than many sports cars.
MEXICO VIOLENCE: CLOWNS PROTEST OVER ACAPULCO MURDER RATE…. Clowns dressed in white marched down a central street in the Mexican resort of Acapulco on Monday demanding an end to the city's crime wave. With their faces painted and carrying signs reading "peace", they said that they were "tired of so much violence". They complained that they were losing business because residents no longer threw parties out of fear of becoming targets of crime. In April, 100 people were killed in the resort town. Officials said they had recorded almost 50 more murders in the first three months of 2018 than in the same period last year. Most of the murders are believed to be related to warfare between rival criminal gangs in the region. The clowns said they had been particularly shocked by the murder of a juggler earlier this year. They said that the rise in crime had spread terror in the city which had made it hard for them to make a living. Acapulco was once a glamorous destination popular with Hollywood stars but the high number of homicides has put off many tourists.
TAIWANESE FLAG ON BULL ARTWORK PAINTED OVER IN AUSTRALIA…. The blue and red Taiwanese flag was painted to represent the school's cultural diversity. An Australian city council has been criticised after it covered up Taiwanese flags painted by school students on a public artwork. The flags were painted on a bull statue displayed for a beef industry event in Queensland. Rockhampton Regional Council said it altered the work to reflect the Australian government's policy of not recognising Taiwan as a country. China claims sovereignty over Taiwan, which it sees as a breakaway province. The fibreglass statue was one of six school artworks commissioned by the council and Beef Australia for a week-long festival in Rockhampton, 600km (370 miles) north of Brisbane. North Rockhampton State School said students had created the design, which featured various national flags in the shape of fish, to celebrate the cultural diversity of their community. Two Taiwanese-born students painted the Taiwan flag, but last week, the council re-painted them so they were plain blue. Other flags were not altered. The council said it informed the school of the decision prior to the re-painting.
