dealing with academic burnout
hey lovelies! if you're feeling burnt out with school right now, you're not alone. here are some tips to help you push through and finish strong!! (long post incoming :))
BREAK IT DOWN -
big assignments can feel overwhelming, so break them into smaller, more manageable tasks. instead of "write a 10-page paper," think "write an outline," "research for 1 hour," "write the introduction," and so on. this makes the workload less daunting and helps you make consistent progress. it's also helpful to keep track of those smaller tasks in a list.
BE REALISTIC -
prioritize your tasks and set achievable daily or weekly goals. don't try to do everything at once. make a to-do list every day, and highlight your most important tasks. this helps you stay organized but also it feels really good to check things off your list :) for example, aim to complete two math problems instead of the entire set, or read one chapter instead of the whole book, and see where it goes from there.
TAKE BREAKS -
in order to be productive, you need to rest your mind!! try the pomodoro technique: work for 25 minutes, then take a 5-minute break. after four cycles, take a longer break (15-30 minutes). during your breaks, do something completely different from your study activity. get up, stretch, grab a snack, or go for a quick walk outside. it's refreshing for your mind and body.
STAY ACTIVE -
physical activity helps reduce stress and improve your mood. so you should aim to get at least 30 minutes of exercise a day. this could be a workout, a yoga session, or even just a really fast walk. if you don't have much time, try putting short bursts of activity in throughout your day. for example, do some stretches or a few jumping jacks between pomodoro cycles.
GET SUPPORT -
talk to friends, family, or a counselor if you're feeling overwhelmed. sometimes, just having someone listen can make a huge difference!! if you’re struggling with a particular subject or area, try forming/joining a study group or seeking help from a tutor. working with others can give you new perspectives and helps with loneliness.
HAVE A HEALTHY DIET -
your brain needs proper fuel to function at its best. try to eat balanced meals with fruits, veggies, whole grains, and protein. avoid too much caffeine and sugary snacks, because those can lead to energy crashes. keep a water bottle with you and make sure you're drinking enough throughout the day to keep your energy levels stable.
GET ENOUGH SLEEP -
pulling all-nighters is going to affect your concentration and memory. go for 7-8 hours of sleep each night. get a bedtime routine in place to help signal to your body that it's time to wind down. this could include stuff like reading a book, listening to calming music, or doing some mindfulness exercises. avoid screens at least an hour before bed, because the blue light can interfere with your sleep.
REWARD YOURSELF -
give yourself something to look forward to after completing a task. a favorite snack, watching an episode of your favorite show, or spending some time on social media, really anything that makes you happy. rewards reinforce your positive behavior and make studying feel more manageable. for example, tell yourself, "after I finish this chapter, I'll take a break to watch a funny youtube video."
STAY ORGANIZED -
keep track of deadlines and dates!! it will save you so much stress!! use a planner, calendar app, or bullet journal to log all your assignments and exam dates. you can also color code by subject/priority to make it easier to see what needs attention. review your schedule often and adjust it when you need to.
GIVE YOURSELF SOME LOVE -
it's okay to feel tired and stressed!! be kind to yourself and remember that you're doing your best. if you need to take a break, don't feel guilty about it. self-care is just as important as academic achievement. try some mindfulness or meditation and just take a moment to ground yourself.
hang in there, you've got this! just a little bit more to go and it'll be all worth it in the end. 🫶

Day 58
PHYS 208: Intermediate Electromagnetism
I haven’t spoken to Ellie since that night. Although, I can’t entirely avoid her since we have class and work together. I know Ellie and I don’t see eye to eye, but I would never ask this of her. I’ve been keeping my head down, doing my work, dodging Ellie’s attempts to talk to me. Dina thinks it might’ve been a joke since Ellie and I were already fighting, but she wasn’t there. Ellie was serious. The way she looked at me when she said it. She was desperate. The application for Dr. Ramsey’s lab is due in two weeks. I’ve actually contemplated not applying, but I’ve worked too hard to not do this.
…
I’m dreading walking into another class and having to endure more time spent with her. I sit at the back of my room and rest my head on the desk. I’ve been neglecting sleep lately in order to keep up with school work. I only raise my head when I hear my professor speak.
“Since midterms are quickly approaching, I have made study groups for you all.” I internally groan.
“You will make a study guide for the midterm and submit it to me. The group assignments will be on my desk after class.”
My foot anxiously taps against the floor. I was hoping the professor might let us out early. My eyes can’t stop catching the time, but it doesn’t seem to go any faster. When her powerpoint comes to an end, she reminds us to check our study group assignment.
Ellie cuts in front of me in line. I know she wants a reaction out of me, but I’m not giving her what she wants. She reads the paper on the desk in front of her. I try to make out what it says, before I can she faces me. “Well, would you look at that? We’re partners.”
…
“I don’t want to work with Ellie.”
“And why is that?” My professor closes her laptop. I struggle to gather the words to describe years of my relationship with Ellie leading up to this.
“We.. We uh just don't get along.” I rub the back of my neck feeling awkward having to ask this. I don’t feel ready to confront Ellie just yet.
“It’s just one assignment. I’m sure you’ll both find a way to make it work.”
I try to protest one more time. She scoots me out of her office with that as her final answer. Maybe she’s right. It’s just one assignment. I’ve avoided her for a month.
I don't think I can avoid her anymore.
2:57 P.M
Well, when do you want to work on this?
E: My place after class?
Sure.
E: It’s a date ;)
…
“So.. How do you think it’ll go tonight?” Dina sits on my bed writing a paper for her class. I haven’t been able to gather the courage to walk to Ellie’s apartment quite yet.
“Hopefully quick. It’s not like both of us aren't capable.”
“Why don’t you ask her about it.”
I honestly don’t know why I haven’t just asked why she doesn’t want me to apply. On some level, it feels like a betrayal. Yes, we compete with each other. Yes, we fight. But this could be life-changing for me or for Ellie. I have to at least try to do this.
“I don’t know. I’m scared of what she’ll say. We both know how important this could be for a career in physics, research, academia. I find it hard to believe she’d want me to flat out not apply.”
“Even if you don’t want to hear her answer, I think you deserve to know. Maybe she has a good reason.”
…
I knock on Ellie’s door. The anticipation is killing me as I wait for her to answer. She opens the door. “Hi.”
“Hi.” I stand there for a few seconds longer twiddling with the ring on my thumb.
“Come in. I won't bite.” She smirks and pulls the door open wider. I haven’t spoken to her since the last time I was here. Butterflies are swirling around my stomach. I tell myself I’m just nervous to be around her again. I walk in after Ellie and shut the door behind me. She leads me back to her room.
Her desk is full of textbooks, art supplies, and little trinkets. My hand traces the edge of her books. Her walls are lined with art and her bed is unmade. I had her pinned as more of a type A with a super organized room. I guess we're all full of surprises.
The silence is permeating the air, and I desperately need to fill it. “Where do you want to start on the outline?” Ellie sits on her bed getting comfortable.
“You can take chapters 1-3, and I’ll do 4-7.”
…
We fall into a more comfortable silence this time. We’ve been working on the assignment with no end in sight. After two and a half hours, I’ve barely scratched the surface of what we need to cover. Ellie flops back on her bed sighing.
“How far have you gotten? My brain feels fried.”
“My brain is also fried. I’ve barely gotten through chapter one.” My eyes feel strained from looking at the computer screen for so long.
“Want to take a break?” She smiles at me, and I nod back at her.
…
Ellie leads me out onto the balcony. She planted a couple of snacks in front of us. The familiar scenery brings back the tension of before. Ellie and I sit on the couch together looking up at the dusky sky. Being out here again with Ellie so near to me, I remember the way she shifted her body to lean in closer, I could almost feel the heat of her touch. I remember how her perfume stuck to me for hours afterward and all I could think about was Ellie Williams. God I was pissed at her. I am pissed at her.
“It’s uh-a nice night out here.” I smile at Ellie not knowing what else to say. The fluttering in my stomach is coming back with a vengeance.
“I’m glad you’re finally talking to me again.” She sets down her drink and her arm stretches out behind me. I feel the urge to sink into her.
“I guess I didn’t need to give you the cold shoulder. Sorry about that.” Her fingers lightly stroke up and down my arm. I like her touch more than I thought I would.
“I understand why you did it. I do have a good reason for asking..” She trails off her sentence and faces me.
“Okay.” I inch closer to her until only a small gap remains. “I’m listening.”
“I told my interviewer for grad school that I already had the position.”
“Oh my god, Ellie… Why would you do that?” I raise my voice unintentionally. How could she be so stupid. Now I know why she looked so desperate. If they find out she lied about this they could rescind her offer.
“Because I’m an arrogant piece of shit who underestimated you. It was before the semester started. and then you got a 100 in quantum mechanics…” Her demeanor softens.
“I freaked out. I thought I would get it no problem. Then suddenly you’re around me all the time and- I’m.. uh struggling to get my shit together.”
Now that I know, I can’t say I wouldn’t have done what Ellie did. I don't know if I forgive her just yet, but I wish I would have listened to her sooner.
“I’m sorry. I just don’t know what you want me to do Ellie. You know I have to apply.” Ellie reaches out and puts her hand on my knee and her eyes meet mine.
“I know. I’m sorry for asking. I gotta clean up my mess by myself.”
…
Ellie and I head back inside to continue working on the assignment. I go to return to my spot on her rug.
“You know you’re allowed to sit at my desk or you can sit on the bed with me. We might be working for a while longer.”
“Oh, are you sure? I don’t want to intrude on your space.”
She scoots over and pats the spot next to her. I gather my laptop off the floor and sit at the edge of her bed. I feel embarrassed about the way I was feeling outside. Leaning into her touch. Yearning for more. It’s just a lapse in judgment. I was just feeling flustered because we haven't really spoken since we fought. At least that's why I think I’m flustered.
…
We continued working on the assignment in silence for a while. It’s starting to get late, and my eyes are feeling heavier than before. It's 12:03 A.M. when I look over at Ellie. I think she’s starting to feel tired too. Her hair falls in front of her face and she tucks it behind her ear. I blush knowing she just caught me staring at her.
“Um. I think I might call it a night and go home.” Ellie shuts her laptop and rubs her eyes.
“You can stay if you want.” She moves over and starts to close the gap between us. The beat in my chest is rapidly intensifying as the space between us lessens.
“Oh, uh I don’t know if I should.” I could move away from Ellie right now, but I can’t or maybe I don't want to. The force between us feels magnetic like I can’t make myself stay away from her. Her face is lit up softly by the string lights in her room.
“It’s a long walk for you back.” Her hand makes its way onto my thigh. Her calloused fingers make goosebumps prickle up spine. “I was just thinking we could work on it again in the morning. It’d be safer if you stayed here.”
“Okay, I’ll stay.”
…
Ellie brings me a pair of pants to change into. I can’t believe I just agreed to spend the night here. “Thanks. Where’s your bathroom?”
Ellie laughs. “I won’t look. You can change here.”
“Ellie, c’mon.” She covers her eyes with her hands. Not wanting to protest more, I changed into the pants she gave me.
She hops onto her bed. I’m suddenly unsure if I’m supposed to get into bed with her or not. Maybe I should just sit on the floor. I’d never live it down if I climbed into bed with Ellie Williams when that's not what she was insinuating. This whole situation is confusing me. We haven’t spoken in a month, and now I’m spending the night and wearing her clothes. I hate that I don’t hate this. God, what is wrong with me?
I can feel Ellie staring at me as I stand still unsure of my next move. “Um, you can sleep in my bed if you want to. I won’t make you sleep on the floor.” She fumbles her words. This is uncharted territory for both of us. “Obviously, unless that's what you’d prefer I don’t want to overstep any boundaries.”
I shouldn’t.
“Seems like you want me to sleep in your bed Ellie. I think you missed me.”
Ellie pulls me onto her bed with her. She’s stronger than I thought she’d be. Her thinly lined shirt gives way to her muscles underneath. I find myself on top of her staring at her beneath me. Her hands find my hips, but immediately toss me to the side of the bed.
“Maybe I did miss you. Is that so bad?”
Ellie wraps her arms around me pulling me in closer. I can’t help but savor her touch.
“No, It’s not so bad.”
The desire burns through me clouding my judgment. I shakily grasp Ellie’s hair and pull her in to kiss me. At first soft, terrified she may not want to kiss me back.
Ellie’s hands wander to my hips pulling me against hers leaving no question of her aching for me. Years of pent up desire bursting out all at once. Her touch feels like nothing I’ve ever felt before. Our bodies pressed together furiously.
She kisses me like she’s needed me all her life with fervor and lust. Her hands wander up my shirt and I don’t stop her. Her lips are soft but rough against my own. She kisses down my neck making me feel weak to her touch. A suppressed moan escapes my lips. God, I need her so badly. Her lips return to mine hungry for more.
My phone rings in the background making us pull apart suddenly. “Um, I should get that.”
…
“It was Dina. She was worried I hadn’t made it home.”
“Oh, I see.” Ellie sits up in bed. I would’ve thought I'd feel regret for kissing Ellie but I don’t. I feel like it’s unlocked a part of me that’s been missing.
“Is it okay if I still-“ She lifts up the covers.
“Oh my god, just get back in.” I laugh and get back into bed with Ellie. This is not how I saw this ending.

In reference to your recent ask. I know some writers, me included bare really scared to ingest media in the genres we are currently writing in, for fear of accidentally sounding like the stories we just consumed. Is studying different genres before drafting actually important, like you said books that have been doing well in the last ten years for that specific genre?
first, i think it's flawed logic to avoid reading your genre because you're afraid of copying someone else. unless you straight up take their words, the worst that will happen is that someone will be better than you or have a similar idea as you and you'll feel bad about it. but you need to know what's out there in order to make informed decisions in your own work, in the same way you have to do research to develop a thesis in an academic paper. just because a novel is creative writing doesn't mean you can write in a vacuum. all creativity exists in response to existing work; your work can only ever get better by reading what else is out there, because there's more stuff you can respond to. and if you do take from someone else, by the time your manuscript gets into the hand of agents and editors, anything you might have borrowed will have been distorted into something new or completely edited out.
but that's broadly speaking. while actively drafting something new, writing's relationship with reading is a complicated one. i think it's important to read in your genre between projects (at least), and once you have a full draft, that's when you might want to begin more in depth market research, because that will help you create your pitch. market research isn't reading for funsies, it's developing a familiarity with the greater industry of publishing. that means you may only read the first 25% of a book and then the last ten pages, and move on to the next thing. reading for research is a completely different skill than reading for fun. you take what you need and you move on. your genre, whatever it is, is smaller than it seems, and the more you know about it, the more real it becomes to you. eventually you'll walk into a book store, go to your genre's section, and one out of every twenty books is going to be by an author you've met, worked with, or befriended.
you may be interested in more than one genre, or writing cross-genre, and that's fine. actually, that narrows your work significantly. the world of literary or upmarket science fiction, for example, is far smaller than literary fiction and science fiction separately. it's also a much newer market. if you're writing some kind of experimental, highbrow post-apocalypse novel, your predecessors are the road, station eleven, and a handful of others.
it may seem overwhelming, but the key is to read what interests you and let it inspire your work. ideally what interests you is also what you write, but i know that's not always a 1:1 scenario. then when you're ready to start sending your work out, that's when it's most important to buckle down and see what else is out there, so you're not sending an MS out into the world thinking you've created something wholly original when your basic concept hit the bestseller list last year and that author already sold film rights. you need to be able to acknowledge that other text in your query or pitch and explain how your story is different.

Hi I'm the person who asked for education advice.
I would like advice on almost everything you mentioned, the learning aspect itself and breaking down goals mostly. Also just the fear of failure haunts me a lot. Also, you're in your 20s right? Do you live alone, on campus, with parents? Is that hard to adjust to, if you know about that? I really appreciate you answering asks and giving advice on things not related to Naruto specifically haha. Love your art! Can't wait for the chaptered manga you're making 💜
Hi! This took me a while as I was stressing over some things, sorry about that, and yes! Well, I live alone currently and am renting an apartment. It is not hard to adjust to for me personally because I used to live in a house that was empty since I was… well let's just say I’m used to it, but when I traveled and studied/worked abroad I did live with other people which I thought was more difficult to adjust to. All of a sudden there’s so much noise and drama aaahhh >< hehe.
I hope my tips are helpful for you— long post, read when you have time and grab your notes! 」( ̄▽ ̄」)
.📙⤵
Small note: this system may seem like a lot of work or tedious for majority of people, but setting it up like this is the only thing that works for me and aids my struggle to focus. This post focuses on studying, but I apply this to a lot of other areas as well. I’m still readjusting parts where I feel like it can improve— of course, you can change anything in any way you like! I tried to make it as clear as possible ^^!
My documentation style: I personally use Notion (almost a year now) to track everything while documenting and organizing my notes. I love how you can create the most aesthetic pages and build your space anyway you like. It helps me structure my life so much better than the note-taking systems I used to have. I'm not kidding when I say it really changed everything for me. For studying, but also other area's, which is why I affiliated with them. There are paid subscriptions, but everything you need you can use for free!
I also have template recommendations if someone does happen to use Notion! (Let me know if you're looking for anything specific!) However, of course you can use whatever program you want to document things/your study. Whatever you use, even if you just write it down on paper, I do recommend keeping it all in the same place by creating a singular overview so you can track your progress more easily, but we’ll get to that later!
My roadmap to achieve (academic) goals:
Goal Setting
I think the most important thing is to set effective goals that are clear. Proper planning is essential to reaching goals and achieving good grades imo, as well as breaking down your tasks into manageable chunks to avoid feeling overwhelmed. It’s learning how you work, what fits your productivity-style and finding ways to make it easier for yourself.
So take a moment to think what exactly you want to achieve!
You can use the SMART-method (setting Specific, Measurable, Achievable, Relevant, and Time-bound goals), to give yourself clear targets to work towards and there are many articles on it if you want to know more about it (you can also look for helpful templates, there are many free ones you can find!), but I combined this with "The 12 Week Year”-method by Brian P. Moran and Michael Lennington.
(Although I would recommend this book, there’s quite a bit of fluff which will probably make it difficult to get through for people that are neurodivergent. If you’re interested you can also find summaries on Youtube in order to only gain the information you need if you want to use it to achieve goals, but I’ll break it down here as well. Summaries are incredibly helpful, but I’ll be honest and say I’m not sure how to feel about them yet.)
The 12 week year describes lag and leading indicators in the context of goal achievement. I use these indicators specifically in order to make sure I can Measure my goals.
I’ll explain with examples:
Regarding your previous ask, let’s take a goal like “getting high grades”. This doesn’t say much yet.
There are probably several subjects you want a high grade for, so let’s break that down first. There are many smaller goals that exist in that. It’ll look something like this:
Overarching goal: Getting high grades
Individual goals:
Getting a high grade for subject A
Getting a high grade for subject B
Getting a high grade for subject C
Etc,—
Great start in getting clear what you need to achieve, but it’s still too vague, right? Let’s see these subjects as separate goals and break it down further with indicators:
Indicators:
Lag indicators are the ultimate measures of success or results necessary to achieve your goals. They represent the outcomes.
Leading indicators are the actions or behaviors that directly influence the achievement of lag indicators. They are individual tasks and the steps that you take to achieve the lag indicator.
Note: Indicators must start with a verb (like: write, get, draw, finish, etc—) because it indicates directly what the action is you have to take. Example: “Assignment” doesn’t tell you what to do. Transform it into “Finish assignment on [x] before 16th of May” or something like that. It depends on the goal.
Now we get something like this:
(Overarching goal: Getting high grades) Individual goal: Getting a high grade for subject A
Lag indicators examples (what’s necessary to achieve the goal):
Write Essay on [x]
Finish assignment A
Setup project A
Start project A
Etc,—
It’ll look different per subject and it may look different for you. Maybe you know exactly what you need to achieve per period or maybe they only let you know what needs to be done one assignment at a time, in which case you can focus on that alone and take it step by step.
It’s already nice to just write everything down and gain a clearer view of the things you need to complete. You’re not pressured to remember anything, because it's all here (I get stressed forgetting stuff).
Now you have your overarching goal of wanting to get high grades and made a list of individual goals. We’ll consider these individual goals and focus on them because achieving those means your overarching goal will be achieved automatically.
If you gathered the lag indicators for these individual goals, you’ll now know what (currently) is necessary to get a high grade for subject A and we can start breaking those down into leading indicators.
It’ll look like this:
(Overarching goal: Getting high grades) (Individual goal: Getting a high grade for subject A) Lag indicator: Write Essay on [x]
Leading indicator examples (steps you take to achieve the lag indicator):
Understand exactly what the topic or thesis statement is
Research topic
Organize, etc—
Write everything you are going to do in order to ‘write the essay on [x]’ as leading indicators.
Reminder: as the SMART-method suggests: make everything as specific as possible so you can measure exactly what it is you need to do. Example: “Research topic” can still be too vague but you can clarify what you need to research for what topic, once you understand what it is exactly you need to do.
Putting in a little bit of effort and time now by breaking down goals like this helps me save a lot of time later, because I have to make less decisions and I’ll exactly know what to do and how much. Tracking your progress makes it a lot easier if you know what you’re tracking and as I said before: decision fatigue is a real thing and emotionally taxing! Making all the decisions before you start working really can help!
Tip: before starting on the leading indicators, check whether your goals and its lag indicators are SMART. Make sure all of them start with a verb! Tip 2: if you have trouble deciding where to start, you can refer to the ‘Swiss Cheese’ method which is a productivity “hack” that can help you identify which of your tasks takes the priority. This doesn’t help me personally, because if I planned out what I need to do that day it doesn’t really matter for me which has the priority because I have to rely on many other things, therefore I can’t plan what I do first. I feel like mentioning it anyway, because it can be helpful when making mindmaps.
So in short:
Determine your overarching goal.
Write down individual goals necessary in order to achieve the overarching goal.
Write down the lag indicators you need to complete in order to achieve your individual goal.
Break down the lag indicators into manageable tasks (leading indicators) and be specific on the action you need to take. (Example: don’t just put ‘writing the essay’, but ‘write [x]-essay for 20 minutes’.)
Now we can start planning!
Planning
Let’s say you have a week to finish this essay, once you have every leading indicator, you can start planning out what you will do on which day.
Efficient planning helps reduce stress, because you don’t have to wonder if what you’ll do today is enough. We’ll get to ‘tracking’ goals later, but stay open to readjust when necessary though! It is okay to re-plan because there’s always the possibility of something coming in between or you not feeling well!
As I said before, I use Notion to document everything and I have a separate page for the overarching goals which include my lag indicators, but in my overview I created a table that shows all the tasks (leading indicators) that I need to finish per (current) week. It sort of looks like this:
I automated it, so when I check off something the amount of times I need to do it (under frequency) that week, it disappears from my overview and I can quickly see my weekly (and overall) progress in percentages, but of course you can do this any way you like or just write it down somewhere. I think this way is great because I need less focus to see whether something's already done or not.
I know that sounds funny for people who don't have trouble with this, but genuinely anything I can do to make it easier for myself is helpful ><
We still need to keep deadlines in mind. I personally like to know what I need to do on which day within the week as well or I’ll end up having to do everything during the weekend. So, I divide these weekly tasks and assign a day to them on a simple weekly notepad I keep on my desk. It looks something like this:
These days aren’t set, as I mentioned: it’s also important to allow life to happen and still stay on track somewhat :’)
When I finish something I color it!
So in short:
Once you gained insight on your leading indicators, you can start planning. This will look different for every subject, but the method stays the same.
Create a weekly planning/overview somewhere depending on your deadline. And if necessary, divide the weekly tasks for specific days if you want on a separate planner.
Review your week on Sundays (or whichever day you like!) to see whether you’re still on track and readjust your planning for the upcoming week(s) when necessary.
Combine Studying with your personal life
The reason why I use a written, separate, weekly overview is because I combine areas of my life on here.
Aside from dividing tasks for my study (the leading indicators) for specific dates, I add appointments that I may have (which I keep in my calendar app), projects, administration/financial-tasks or random things I need to do at home or for myself/others.
I know a lot of people that create to-do lists have trouble with it. If that’s you (me too), then we’ll take it a step further and plan our tomorrow every day.
I use simple note-paper and sort of write things down in order for that day, because it’s easy and quick to grab and scribble on. This really helps to focus on what matters right now. It looks like this:
This is sort of like compounding habits, but with tasks. Some things are much easier to do after one thing than another. A regular to-do list may not work because it doesn’t take into account the rest of your day like appointments or a personal routine you want to work on. It’s hard to gain clarity when all you see is a bunch of intertwined, random tasks— so here you’d organize them bit and add whatever is relevant. Like a little mini-planning for the day.
On here I also write small silly stuff I have to do that day or keep notes I have to put somewhere else so I won’t forget. (Like appointments I suddenly get, or e-mails I have to reply to, something I want to check later, etc—)
Tip: Let’s say after a while you still have trouble with this daily mini-planner, you can also just write down (3 or so) your most important tasks for the day and “eat the frog”. You focus on that first while ‘hiding’ all the ones that may not be as relevant immediately. (I’d still keep the other mini-planner though or transform your other tasks into “bonus-tasks”.)
So in short:
Keep appointments in mind or days when you’ll be busy/outside when planning study tasks on specific days. Add the most important or time-consuming tasks first so you gain a clearer view how much time you have for the weekly study tasks.
Use this weekly planner to divide tasks throughout the week and then make a mini-planner for your specific day on a separate paper/document to organize the day.
Keeping track
As I said during the planning-step, you can use Sundays (or other days) to quickly review your week and adjust the next if necessary.
A lot within my system is automated, but even if you’ve written it all down, it shouldn’t take too much time (maybe 10 mins, probably less), because you’ve done most of the planning already. You can easily see what and where it needs adjusting.
Be prepared to adjust a lot in the beginning though if you’ve never done this! Eventually it gets easier and you gain better insight how long you work on something or what is realistic for you to do in a day, which is totally fine!!
Tip: If you are more interested in self-development, you can also apply a review-session monthly, quarterly or per project to gain insight on yourself and where you’d like to improve. I personally do this quarterly, but let’s keep focussing on the study~! Tip 2: If you aren’t sure how to create an overview, there are also many, free SMART-method templates you can use. If you’re usually more a visual person, I’d recommend creating visual boards or just add images to make it more appealing. It may seem like it doesn’t do anything, but especially in this current world of distraction, images do help you connect information much easier and can influence how you feel even subconsciously. I do highly recommend doing so. (I personally use a theme per quarter/season >< it’s so extra lmao it’s a good thing I live alone let’s be honest because I'm embarrassing.)
Studying & taking notes
Well this is a broad subject but I’d recommend sort of observing yourself for a while to really understand more specifically what it is you struggle with. (If you are.)
Here are some examples for ways you can use notes. I used the ‘Second Brain’ method for a while as well, but I’m most comfortable with the Cornell method. I set it up like this:
But the most important part here, is this:
I can clearly see the subjects and the necessary information. (I usually hide them under some toggle text to keep things organized and not muddy up my overview.)
Study cards don’t really work for me, because I need to connect information together, but it’s worth looking into! It might be helpful for you.
Tip: If you have trouble focussing because you get bored easily which makes you tired so you seek a quick dopamine rush even if that means you start cleaning your entire environment and you procrastinate, etc—… trust me you’re not alone. I do recommend researching whether a ‘dopamine detox’ will be helpful for you (which is not easy, I’ll tell you that). However, this may not work for everyone because sometimes there’s even more at play. That’s why a combination of strategies to make the actual act of studying as easy and clear as possible, is so important. Tip 2: Always allow yourself to experiment with your routines and keep your health in mind, but if you continue to struggle, please do seek support. Tip 3: If you’re like me and you had to watch/listen to a lot of material, find transcripts or use subtitles! If you have to write an essay on a movie, it’s much easier to get back to information when it’s written down. (And it saves you so much time...) For many movies you can find subtitle files and you can convert them online to remove timestamps if necessary. Tip 4: Ah, and for my fellow neurodivergent people… if noise annoys you and music doesn’t really help anymore, not even when it’s just instrumentals… see if ambient video’s that have slight random background noises (like a library for example) are helpful for you. For me personally, it’s such a game-changer holy sh-
Fear of Failure
Not sure if I can give you some advice on this, because I struggle with this as well. It gets a bit better though when I use this system because it lays down the groundwork for you and with that clarity it gets easier to focus on the task itself. Unless you plan it all out and then end up not doing what you set out to do, and you don’t readjust your planning weekly— it’s sort of hard to fail the action-taking-part.
If it gets really bad and you end up avoiding your tasks entirely, because you get reluctant to take the risk of failing at something, sit down with yourself for a moment and think whether you may’ve set extremely high standards for yourself. See if you can allow a bit more room in your schedule. Refer back to the Goal Setting methods.
Tip: If you’re interested in making it a habit to study, I’d recommend you read ‘atomic habits’ by James Clear, or find a video that breaks the method down for you if that’s easier.
Know that whatever it is you want to improve in, there are ways to do it. If you feel like you get stuck on an area of your life, most of the time focussing on it with frustration will make it worse. Keep your ears and mind open for solutions while taking a break.
I don’t think I’ve ever been anywhere, any school or anything where they teach you how to actually study in the first place. They should tbh. I think it’s ridiculous they don’t, especially because we get more and more distracted and everything is literally designed to grab your attention and hold it for as long as possible until the next thing comes by. And I’m not sure if that’s helpful to know, but I do believe that realizing that studying in general isn’t easy and schools making it seem like it is by treating it like it’s nothing “you just have to do it” while not teaching you how to do it effectively... is bullshit.
Lastly, it’s all trial and error so please don’t beat yourself up over any of this. If you’re a perfectionist, please don’t feel like you need to set up a system perfectly before starting, because it’s an ongoing thing and not set in stone. It’ll only make you end up procrastinating for the sake of perfecting a system, which may make you feel like you're being productive but you don't actually get anything done and it's not what we want. That’s why it’s so important to be okay with readjusting when necessary!
Hope there is something in all of this that can help you! Good luck 🌷^^~!
_______
Oh and thank you!! I also can’t wait to release the Manga. I practiced fic writing first and created a Cyberpunk-story, but I’m still a bit hesitant to share it >< (Perfectionism does make me slow as well, but I’m working on improving it 😌)
#asktamelee#study tips#goal setting#note taking#planning#study motivation#notion#well I didn't mean to make it so long#I got carried away#as you notice I'm very obsessed with it hehe#but it's also because I wouldn't have been able to#do things productively#aaahhhh

The Secret of Why the Dinosaurs Went Extinct
Prologue: It was the winter of 1993… [non-fiction]
Naturally, the K Literature Award was instituted for the commemoration of 'K's. The prize money is not much, but people all say that with the K Literary Award in hand, the Nobel is not far off.
Why K? Because K is the signpost of literary genius for our time: Kafka, Kawabata, Koestler, Kundera, Kureishi, Krasznahorkai, Kraus… The time of 'K' is Kommunistische Zeit, and the time of Kapital. Ke Xiangying is surnamed 柯, Kay E. He really was blessed by the ancestors.
In order to retrieve the award, Ke Xiangying had to cross the Atlantic Ocean, from the East Coast of the United States to Europe. After picking up the trophy (and not much prize money), the publishing house, anxious to sell books, did not let him go. Instead, he was taken on a grand tour of the developed capitalist nations of the West, giving readings, interviews, guest lectures, seminars. Paris was their last stop.
One afternoon after the signing, Ke Xiangying emerged from a bookstore rotating his sore wrists and saw that the streets from the Luxembourg Gardens to the Pantheon were packed with people.
"What's this about?" Ke Xiangying asked the on-site interpreter.
The interpreter hired by the bookstore was a young international student. He shook his head and said that it could be anything since people in France were always protesting. It was the French translator of Ke Xiangying's novel who answered in halting Mandarin: "These are workers from several state-owned enterprises opposing privatization reforms. The ones at the front, yes, under the red CGT balloons, those are railway workers. They're the most militant. How do you say this in Chinese again? '砸了铁饭碗' — smashing the iron rice bowl. I actually learned the phrase from Ke's book."
The young international student was quite shocked. "There are still state-owned enterprises in France?"
The French translator was also surprised. "Which country doesn't have nationalized industries? Water, electricity, the post, automotive manufacturing… Of course the state has to be the controlling shareholder."
"Then are you also opposed to privatization?"
The young French man laughed. "Well, take the SNCF, it was probably nationalized long before I was born."
Ke Xiangying stood at the door of the bookstore, and watched the people with red flags walking past in waves. He suddenly remembered when he was very young, Chinese people could still take to the streets in demonstrations, carrying Chairman Mao's portrait (he had never seen any with portraits of Lin Biao; Ke Xiangying was only one year old when the plane crashed in Öndörkhaan). During the National Day parade, there were floats, and the ones featuring ranks of the working class [brothers] were particularly eye-catching. It was beyond glorious, all the workers of The Big Four gallantly marching by.
When he was young, he had a boyfriend named Jiang Ming who was a worker. That's right, Ke Xiangying was a homosexual. This was expected. Why else would a jury give the award to someone from China? Just because his last name began with K? There must always be something else beyond the writing: being a sexual minority, of color, anti-Communist, a Commie-lover, anti-Unification, pro-Unification, a Croat, a Serb, a Jew, a Tutsi, a Native American … Third-World literature cannot avoid politics.
As a matter of fact, Ke Xiangying really didn't want to talk about all that. He always said in interviews, "I'm not a liberal. How can you discern ideology from a love story?" The academics in the Faculty of Arts just laughed and kept on writing their papers — "Although Ke refuses to acknowledge the political orientation of his novels, we see that in his writings, the authoritarian regime…" And if Ke Xiangying only had cock in mind when he picked up a pen? That was not their purview.
But the cock was not Jiang Ming's. He didn't dare recall it. Ke Xiangying pressed the Jiang Ming who was unlike anyone else in all of existence into the deepest little box in his heart. Even through the hard days of New York City when he only had the free Chinese church meals to eat, or when his manuscript was rejected by the 17th publisher, or when a Mexican gigolo robbed him of all his money, he didn't dare to take the lid off the box and think about Jiang Ming. He was afraid that his thoughts would make the memories fade, like sugar that melted away more and more with every lick.
Ke Xiangying knew that he had never loved anyone in his life the way he loved Jiang Ming. Only when he looked at Jiang Ming did his soul tickle as Plato said, become warm and moist, and grow the fine feathers that carried people into the sky. But now he no longer had wings, and he didn't dare try to remember Jiang Ming like it had been a previous life.
In this moment though, everything had to come rushing back in. He couldn't stop staring at the ranks of trade unionists in the demonstration. Some of them wore blue overalls. Some took off their shirts, revealing the slightly-tanned inverted triangles of their muscular bodies, just like Jiang Ming used to do. In the summer, he didn't bother wearing an undershirt, just walked around the house with his upper body bare. Ke Xiangying couldn't stand it anymore. He announced to the publisher with the self-righteous impulse prone to middle-aged men that he will return to China soon. The publisher nodded, as if to demonstrate his knowingness about the matter at hand — that of a triumphant return and all.
Ke Xiangying's brother, Ke Xianghai, drove to Beijing International Airport for the pick-up. In recent years, after a long period of estrangement, they had started contact each other more frequently again because Ke Xianghai's son was studying in the United States.
Sitting in the car, other than the grey-blue sky, Tianjin seemed very different from when he had left. Ke Xiangying made a sound of surprise when the car drove over the Hai River. He had never seen any of these skyscrapers and reconstructions of the foreign concessions that filled the night sky with light pollution. And the chimneys he was so familiar with, there was no trace left at all. Back then, the Tianjin Radio and Television Tower had not been built yet, and the tallest building in the city was that big chimney. Day and night, white smoke had floated out of it, like little white dragons bound for the high sky of the North China Plain, crossing en-route the Hai river, which had seemed much wider than it was now.
Having made an appearance at his brother's drinking party and fulfilled the role of hometown kid made good, Ke Xiangying could hardly wait to ask his brother to help him find and contact old friends.
Before going abroad, Ke Xiangying and Jiang Ming's family, or more precisely, his two sisters, were almost at each other's throats. And after Jiang Ming's family discovered Jiang Ming had unexpectedly titled the deed of his apartment to Ke Xiangying, he became the sworn enemy of the Jiang parents.
Now, with the passage of time, Ke Xiangying can even be in the inconceivable position of sitting in a cafe with Jiang Ming's little sister. Her name was Jiang Liang, and she was a senior engineer at the design institute. They sat there for about half an hour. Ke Xiangying had the distinct realization that as their conversation drew on, Jiang Liang's hatred for him was growing with every second. By the end, this middle-aged, middle class woman no longer cared to put up with the notion of respectable conduct. That rough and tumble childhood spent in the alleys of Tianjin was once again revived in her body. "You intellectuals…" she said. "I've figured it out now. You intellectuals are the most selfish and misanthropic people of all. It was my brother's curse to have met you. So jot this down: other people have the right to say whatever they want about my brother. But not you.
No one would be talking to him about Jiang Ming.
That night at home, Ke Xiangying tossed and turned, unable to fall asleep. Finally, he got up and turned on the computer. You all refuse to talk about him with me? Fine. I'll do it myself. He opened a new document, and the screen was as empty as the memories he now had. His fingers fell into the familiar shapes of typing on the keyboard.
"It was the winter of 1993…"

Don’t procrastinate (it only makes things worse). Eat well. Exercise regularly. Get a good night’s sleep.
All of these are vital—and common—pieces of advice that will help you manage all forms of stress, academic and otherwise.
As anyone who has struggled with academic stress likely knows, each of these points is easier said than done. What I think is often missing from such advice is an account of the mental and emotional hurdles that can get in the way of effective time and health management.
Maybe you struggle with anxiety or depression, or maybe you have family or other health issues that make sleep or exercise really difficult to come by. Stress is often a symptom of circumstances that need their own forms of management.
But stress is also often a learned pattern of thinking, one that we need to unlearn if we’re going to get things done.
YOU’RE PROBABLY WRONG
“You cannot get stressed out unless you believe your thoughts,” explains Susan Stiffelman, a licensed psychotherapist and author of Parenting Without Power Struggles. “All stress is precipitated by stressful thinking.”
Often, we convince ourselves that the tasks ahead of us are more difficult than they need to be. If you’re a perfectionist especially, you probably impose impossibly high standards on yourself and your work that may engender procrastination.
After all, why spend the next 30 minutes trying to produce absolutely perfect work when you can just let your mind wander on Snapchat?
When Stiffelman warns against believing your own thoughts, she is suggesting that we question our assessments of what we have in front of us. Next time you’re stressed out over an exam, a paper, or college applications, try listing reasons why your assessment of the situation might be incorrect.
Do you have a record of academic success? Have you succeeded in the past on projects that you found daunting? If the answer to either of these is “yes,” then there’s a good chance you’ve misread your current situation.
Sometimes, there’s freedom in getting things wrong.
BREAK IT DOWN
But even if you are correct, and if what lies ahead is very difficult work, pausing to consider why a given project is difficult—and writing out the reasons—often reveals a range of sub-tasks that are far less difficult than the project as a whole.
This is why Stiffelman also advises breaking tasks down into small chunks.
In my own experience, to-do lists are lifesavers. List out the tasks ahead and break these down into the smallest possible tasks.
One student of mine wrote out everything she needed to do on sticky notes and then threw the notes away as she completed each task. But if you want to avoid wasting paper—and I think you should—an app like Todoist is just as good for laying out a roadmap and for checking off items as you go.
⏱️ TIMING IS EVERYTHING
Let’s say you need to write an important paper for an English class. Your to-do list might look something like this:
Read the assignment [Monday]
Decide which text(s) I’m going to focus on [Monday]
Read my notes on that text [Tuesday]
Find 3-4 quotations from the text that seem relevant [Tuesday]
Draft a thesis [Tuesday]
See if the thesis goes well with the quotations I’ve chosen [Tuesday]
If not, find other quotations or revise the thesis
Draft an introduction [Wednesday]
Draft the first body paragraph [Wednesday]
Draft the second body paragraph [Thursday]
Draft the third body paragraph [Thursday]
Draft the fourth body paragraph [Thursday]
Draft the conclusion [Thursday]
Review my topic sentences [Friday]
Review my transitions [Friday]
Read the entire draft [Friday]
Check that the body paragraphs correspond with the thesis
Check that the body paragraphs proceed in a logical order
Make necessary revisions [Saturday]
Proofread the essay [Saturday]
Writing an entire paper can seem daunting, but reading the assignment is easy. Deciding which text to focus on isn’t too hard, either. Even drafting a thesis isn’t all that bad. Taken together, writing an entire paper might seem like a difficult task. But, when broken into small chunks, the job is much simpler than it seems.
Notice that I’ve given each task a day of the week. It’s important to recognize that your time is limited. If you give yourself a rough timeline, you can kind of mechanize the process a bit and give yourself peace of mind that you’re on track. Remember to stay flexible—adjust as you go, when needed, since some tasks might be more difficult than you first anticipated.
🍫 TREAT YOURSELF TO TRAIN YOURSELF
Keep yourself motivated by giving yourself a reward for each task or pair of tasks that you knock off your to-do list.
You’re always practicing, always training yourself. You’re not all that different from a dog who learns how to do tricks. Just like a poodle, you need positive reinforcement to train your mind and body that getting things done is good.
If you practice being anxious with a stomach ache while writing, you’ll get really good at being anxious with a stomach ache while writing. But if you practice breaking writing down into small sub-tasks and rewarding yourself—with dessert or a video game or something else you love—you’ll learn to associate getting things done with feeling good.
In sum: change your thinking, make to-do lists, chart out a rough schedule, and reward yourself along the way.
But of course, remember to avoid procrastinating, eat well, exercise regularly, and get a good night’s sleep. Those truisms are true, after all.

Effective Academic Writing for Your Thesis: Key Strategies and Tips
Academic writing is a scholarly milestone; thus, writing a thesis stands as one of the most challenging tasks for scholars. To get your message across and to succeed in getting it across, academic writing is needed. Academic writing is marked by clarity, precision, and a formal tone of which you are showing that you understand the topic. Here are some main strategies and tips to be of use to you in writing a good, professional, and impactful thesis.
Know What Academic Writing Is For Academic writing is reporting, but not merely reporting: it's argumentation, and the creation of a body of knowledge. Your purpose is to persuade your readers (your academic advisors and your peers) that what you have done is worthwhile, valid and well-thought out. Writing with this purpose will keep you clear, focused, and persuasive throughout your thesis.
Start from a Clearly Defined Plan An outline is a key to good writing. Proceed by defining the super sections of the paper: introduction, literature review, methodology, results, discussion, and conclusion. Then proceed to break down each super section to specific points and arrange them in a logical order. A structured outline guides your writing and allows your thesis to flow naturally from section to section.
Write a Thesis Statement That Counts In other words, your thesis statement is that the central argument or idea to which your paper relates. It should be clear and precise and reflect the purpose of your study. If you place it at the beginning of your introduction and summarize your points in relation to this, your work becomes coherent for your readers and helps them understand what's at the core of your work.
Write Clearly and Precisely Academic writing favors clarity and precision over flowery language or verbose description. Use technical vocabulary when necessary, and avoid vague or woolly language. Define technical terms or other key concepts only if they are crucial to your arguments. You should look to present difficult concepts in simple ways so that your thesis will be accessible to many readers in the academic community.
Use Formal Language and Tone Academic writing has a formal and professional tone. Therefore, you should not use slang, colloquial, and contraction words such as "don't," "it's," etc. Use full words and proper vocabulary instead. However, while you would not want to be too verbose or pompous, some level of formality is tolerated. Never forget that you have to present arguments objectively; unless your instructor demands it, you should base your arguments more on facts than emotion.
Evidence Must Support Argument Every statement you make in your thesis should be supported with evidence. Use data, examples, citations from scholarly works to prop up your arguments. The strength of the argument apart, it also shows the acquaintance you have with already conducted research. In citing sources, use the citation style that the institution calls for, whether APA, MLA, or any other style called for by the institution. Proper citations lend validity to your work and help readers follow up with further information of the claims.
Engage Critically with Existing Literature A good thesis involves critical engagement with studies that have already been done. As you are writing your literature review, avoid just paraphrasing other people's work. Reflect on the contributions, methods, and limitations of the past studies. Compare and contrast different studies; identify gaps you will be filling or inconsistencies you will be correcting within existing literature. Critical engagement will ensure that you get to know your topic, that you can position your own research in broader academic context.
Coherence and Flow Coherence and flow help to keep the reader interested in reading the paper. Use explicit topic sentences at the beginning of each paragraph and use transitional phrases connecting each idea with the next. Do not jump abruptly between totally irrelevant points, but, again, really stay with the same focus on a given main point with each paragraph. This way, the reader can logically and smoothly follow your argument from one section to another.
Watch your Grammar and Mechanics Grammatical and syntactical errors can dilute your authority and even make your meaning unclear. Your writing should be free of annoying errors, vagueness of expression, and sentence fragments. Use complete sentences, not run-on sentences or fragments. Read through each section as you write, and use grammar-checking software that should help identify the errors you have missed.
Revise, Edit and Proofread Closely First drafts rarely come out perfect so heavy revision is a must. Read through every section for sake of clarity, coherence, and accuracy. Look for consistency of terms and tone and format. When an editor works on you, it means they try to work on your work with the structure, flow, and logic of what you have written. And proofreading just simply makes sure all grammar, spelling, and punctuation are correct. You may want to ask a peer or mentor or professional editor to review your work; fresh eyes can catch so much that you might miss.
Conclusion Writing a thesis is not an easy task, but a clear structure, formal language, and strong arguments can make it easy to bring forth a well-polished and influential academic document. With these strategies in hand, this will make writing effective, professional, and accessible. In the mean time, good academic writing is only something that improves with use; so don't get discouraged or impatient as you work your way through to completing a thesis you will be proud of.

How to Write an Outstanding Essay in English
Essay writing is a form of creative exercise that the majority of students in today's society do not possess. In the field of English essay writing, the primary objective is to express a particular viewpoint. The process of writing an essay is something that many students fear doing despite the fact that some students believe it to be among the most accessible and most straightforward assignments. During a student's academic journey, writing essays is, without a doubt, a crucial component. Nevertheless, because of the overwhelming nature of the demands placed on students by their academics, a significant number of students choose to "pay someone to take my online class" in order to efficiently manage their workload and guarantee that they will fulfill their needs. Students are required to compose numerous papers on a variety of subjects that have been doled out to them by their instructors and educators. Many students avoid composing essays for an assortment of different reasons. In any case, in order to put a halt to this trouble of essay writing, we have devised efficient methods that will be used to make an English paper that's perfect. Steps to follow when writing an English essay Students can make the process of writing an essay easier on themselves by following the stages that are in the following paragraphs: Take your time and read the specified essay subject very attentively. When it comes to writing an essay that will have a significant impression, the first and most effective step is to study and understand the issue acceptably. It is essential to understand the genuine meaning of the essay as well as its necessities. It is essential to consider the process of composing an appropriate title for a piece. One must never, under any circumstances, make light of the significance of the title and the subject matter of an article. Begin the process of doing research and analysis. A lot of individuals believe that research is the most essential part of preparing an essay. An individual is required to initiate the search for pertinent data and information. Before beginning the work of writing an essay, it is essential to research the topic at hand thoroughly. One must refrain from incorporating material and information that is not pertinent to the essay. To a piece of work, this will merely include material that's irrelevant to the subject at hand. Therefore, watchfulness should be used when selecting the amount and quality of the data. Additionally, it will be good to make rough notes while conducting significant studies. Collaborate on the ideas. Essay writing includes a number of steps, one of the most significant of which is brainstorming. An individual can jot down substantial data and quotations that may be utilized in the article. The quality of an essay will improve as a result of this. An immediate writing down of important ideas and points is required. When it comes to stimulating lateral thinking, mind mapping can also be of assistance. It would be best if you got the first rough draft of the essay ready. The next step, which comes after doing all of the research and brainstorming, is to create a basic outline of the essay by gathering all of the essential material, quotes, and data, among other things. Some helpful tips when gathering materials for a rough outline: During this stage, careful observation is required in order to position the information slot in the appropriate location strategically. A comprehensive outline of the essay must include all of the necessary research and material that is pertinent to the topic. There is also the possibility of utilizing diagrams and tables to make it more appealing. Your essay writing will receive more marks as a result of these tendencies. It is necessary to begin by writing the topic at the top of the page and then proceed to arrange all of the material and arguments in accordance with how relevant they are. You need to begin by putting the concepts that are the most significant at the top and then list the ideas that are less significant after that. The intro paragraph In the first paragraph of your essay, you should explain the main point and the target audience. The introductory paragraph needs to be compelling enough to convince the audience to agree with the position that is being presented or, to put it another way, the viewpoint of the author. It must be attention-grabbing in order for the reader to be able to engage with it immediately. It is possible to use a dialogue or a quote that is particularly impressive in the first paragraph of the essay. Introduction to the Essay The body of the essay discusses the linked material and presents the concepts in depth. Not a single piece of important material must be dropped in this area of the essay. The student must look out for any loose threads and bind/arrange them correctly. There must not be any half- or incomplete information in the body of an essay. Throughout the process of writing an essay, following the appropriate format is required. The closure and conclusion of the essay Following this, we will now proceed to the session to summarise the overall ideas and information. Both the opening paragraph and the conclusion paragraph need to have the same level of impact. The conclusion must incorporate persuasive arguments and sentences that justify your viewpoint. Include all of the pertinent information that has the potential to be effective in keeping the reader interested throughout the entire piece. Review and edit the text. After you have completed the process of writing an essay in its entirety, it is not the time to do nothing but sit back and rest. It might be beneficial for you to take a little break and then return to the revision section of your developed essay. Start rewriting your essay from the opening paragraph and check for any faults and spelling issues. If you detect that any adjustments need to be made to any element of the essay, you should fix it as soon as possible. When it comes to producing a work that is free of errors, proofreading the essay is a very vital instrument. For those who struggle with this process, considering the option to "pay someone to take my online English class" can provide valuable support and ensure the quality of their academic work. Request for Feedback It is possible that receiving feedback from friends, tutors, and professors may prove to be an excellent option. This is because it will assist in examining your essay from the perspective of another individual. With this method, you may come to know about the weaknesses and loopholes in your essay writing, and you can remedy them promptly. There are a few things to keep in mind while writing an essay Essay writing is a creative endeavor, and creativity comes out when you feel calm. So, attempt to figure out your relaxation zone and start writing with excitement. Shut off all the distracting influences around you. If you are troubled by the bustle around you, locate yourself in a quiet spot where you can concentrate better. You can turn on soft music if it helps you relax your thoughts. Students must not utilize casual language in essay writing. When composing a formal piece of writing, it is essential to avoid using slang and jargon. When you are writing a lengthy essay, it is beneficial to give yourself short pauses since it improves your ability to think analytically. Keep an eye on the word limit that has been assigned to you since it might affect the quality of an essay. Pay close attention to the rules of grammar and the creation of sentences. Conclusion To become good at writing English essays, you need to be patient, practice, and take the right approach. Students can significantly improve their writing skills by following the steps given: understanding the essay topic, doing broad research, coming up with thoughts, composing the primary draft, and re-examining it. my strategy for how to properly do research on a particular discussion topic, in order to have your own opinion/stance:
find out what you're in for! casually scroll through tags for the topic on social media, google it to see what the first results are, read the wikipedia page on it, stuff like that to get a broad overview of generally what the topic even is and what you have to learn
write down a list of subtopics or discussion points you commonly see. as an example, if you were researching whether cats or dogs are better, your list would look something like: "general amount of maintenance required, predictability, trainability, energy level, affection, lifespan, lifestyle" etc.
look into each of those points individually from multiple sources, from different opinions and different levels of credibility. for the cats or dogs example, you would be looking for sources from people who prefer cats AND people who prefer dogs. you would also look for a combination of everyman/community opinions, professional opinions, and direct scientific research/academic papers (if applicable). if you have friends who are into this topic, ask them! just try not to be inclined to agree with them just because they're your friend - avoiding bias would be easiest if you had several friends on different sides (e.g. at least one who prefers cats and at least one who prefers dogs) and you could consult all of them separately.
for scientific research, the best way to quickly get an overview on the topic is to use a resource like google scholar or pubmed to search for review articles on the topic. these are articles that summarize and analyze a bunch of the existing studies and put them into context, so that you don't have to read a billion studies yourself. however, this can be flawed and biased according to the author - a quick way to fix this would be to just read multiple review articles and consider what they agree and disagree on. if you want 100% scientific accuracy on every detail, you should critically read a lot of individual studies yourself, but this is very time consuming and rarely does it matter that much lol. just take what you read with a grain of salt, and read several sources if you can. if the actual research papers are too hard to read and jargon-heavy for you, it's okay to turn to other sources that explain the research in a way that makes sense, just keep in mind potential bias!
throughout this process, you'll likely have already been forming an opinion of your own - or maybe you even started out with one. at this stage, you take a step back and look at the big picture. consider which option sounds best according to what you know, what your values are, and what works best for you. but also, consider WHY people disagree with you. that is ESPECIALLY important if your side seems like the obvious choice. why do people disagree with you if that's the case? especially if the split isn't "most people vs vocal minority", like pro- and anti-vaccination; if it's closer to 50/50 or 40/60, really take the time to understand WHY so many people don't come to the same conclusion as you. you do not get to answer this with personal judgements like "because they're stupid" or "because they're evil". really try to put yourself in their shoes. you don't have to change your opinion at all, you don't have to agree with a single word they say. just genuinely consider it with good intentions, and then come to your own conclusion. this is where you really apply critical thinking to your research.
congratulations, you've now successfully come to your own educated conclusion! if you choose to share your wisdom with others, do this in the form of educational posts where you share your research or some of your own reasoning with the public. a wonderful way to make a difference is to paraphrase or summarize some of the research you did to make that information more accessible to the public! what you will NOT do is guilt trip, harass, judge, mock, or otherwise put down other people on the internet! yes, even if they are "the other side", and even if they are "morally bad" or hurting people by disagreeing with you. more harm and hatred won't fix that problem! instead, calmly share what you know and block freely :)
