He also hasn't apparently contested being found with a gun. People act like of course the cops planted a gun, why would a guy just be carrying a gun?
If Mr. Magnione is indeed the shooter, it's not hard to imagine "he couldn't think of a way to dispose of the gun" turning into "he kept it on his person" gelling with "if he was found he might have known he'd get arrested right away, so his manifesto thanks the feds for what they do and says he doesn't want to waste their time".
Or, maybe, anyway.
This is assuming a lot of hypotheticals. He is still only a suspect, innocent until proven guilty - and thankfully his family's well off so he's gotten a good lawyer.
The thing is though, people have turned ACAB into an excuse for assuming a massive conspiracy to arrest some guy on trumped up charges. Which like, wouldn't be shocking but that's also not proved either.
You ever notice how when the shooting first happened, and the shooter calmly shot the guy and then rode away on a bike and just fucking vanished, everyone's reaction was "what? that worked?"
But after a few days of myth-making, of seeing every little clue as proof that the unknown gunman was always one step ahead of the cops, when a man is arrested for pretty boring reasons, the reaction becomes "there's no way it's him, the shooter was too smart for this!"
Or maybe it's not that implausible, if Mr. Mangione does turn out to be the shooter (this is still just personal speculation here, it's not proven) that a man who's escape attempt was so slapdash as to provoke shock, also carried a manifesto that opens:
To the Feds, I'll keep this short, because I do respect what you do for our country. To save you a lengthy investigation, I state plainly that I wasn't working with anyone.
Was he expecting to be caught? That's just speculation and personal opinion. We don't know anything for sure yet.
It seems plausible he shot the guy, but objectively it's an understandable motive for murder, and also lmao? Terrorism charges?? Yeah they're not getting him with that even if he did do it.
But like, Jesus, drop the conspiracy theories. Saw some folks allege the manifesto must have been AI generated due to the somewhat surreal tone of opening up thanking the feds but like.
It's a handwritten note. That's very easy to google. The cops were fastidious enough in their frame-job to handwrite it, but hakcy enough to ask ChatGPT? What're you fucking talking about.
Honestly one of the main reasons to assume Luigi Mangione was framed by the NYPD is that the UHC shooter not only had no reason to carry around a manifesto, he had no reason to even write a manifesto. He said his piece loud and clear with the bullet casings and the monopoly money. Everyone understood it and the shooter knew that would be the case.

the thing that bugged me the most after watching the wormhole video is actually that we never got the proper ending for the main plot line that was in it: parrot and spoke's personal relationship.
even though spoke showed that conversation from the end of wormhole, where parrot stood in front of spoke, clutching the handle of the hyperion, and said that he refuses to let people down even if it means he has to sacrifice something very important to him, this does not answer the question hanging in the air. from the point of view of the narrator, after losing op, parrot seems to lose his autonomy, both as an antagonist and, more importantly, as spoke's best friend, after spoke himself talked almost exclusively about their friendship for an hour, both as characters and, first of all, as real people.
"i didnt just exploit a game, i exploited a friendship i had built over the years.". speaking about both parrot and mapicc, spoke mentions several separate times how much it went beyond just playing on the server, that he abused their real, actual relationship in order to achieve his goal. at the same time, spoke does not tell what happened between them – both characters and people – after him receiving an op. in the jungle part, parrot literally has almost no lines – he just stares and stares and stares and stares. until the very end of the story, he follows the path that spoke paved for him, living in the conditions created by spoke.
we see only glimpses that everything is actually – at least relatively – fine. not only because parrot continues to play within the game, but also how he complains to spoke about the unfairness of using teleportation and that after the season ending he even suggests for spoke to become the new lifesteal owner. grains that do not reflect full image. was parrot horrified and shocked, was he angry, at least for a moment, when he realized how far spoke's manipulation extended, did they have to somehow solve and discuss it, or was he immediately like, "wow, you made a lot of awesome moves, there will be cool content!" and everything was fine? sure, parrot loves risk moves and adrenalin, but wasnt it too far?
can it even be "okay" if your best friend has been manipulating you for months for a personal goal? does this cross the line of what is truly acceptable, even in a lifesteal setting? even if it's all for the sake of shared content, even if the community has the right mentality, even if no real harm has been done, even if you're willing to trust a friend that he won't cross the line, does all this change the fact that it's, in general morality, just plain cruel?
although this is undoubtedly too personal to just insert into the video, it should be noted when the whole story is about abusing irl friendship. although i absolutely understand this decision, this is by no means a critical review, from the point of view of storytelling it is strikingly incorrect, as if in the middle of writing a book the writer threw out all rules.
of course, this is an important conversation to be had on the whole – with the rules never mentioned out loud, with an unspoken agreement that everyone understands what's going on here and how, and what everyone is signing up for, when the price is friendship and connection, how far is it too far? lsers are friends, to a greater or lesser extent, but it's almost inappropriate to answer "everyone has their limits" when a relationship is at stake. everyone, including spoke himself, agrees that what he did in s4 was too much, but there were many, many other moments where everything was not so clear, and, moreover, there was no discussion, even in private, which never solves the essence of the problem.
lifesteal is not unique, but it is a very rare system in how far people can be willing to go in a war against others, despite the fact that everyone is friends: most of the pre–lifesteal stories of this approach took place on public servers and against strangers, and friends' servers either remained frivolous to one degree or another, or were scripted. post-lifesteal, many servers of a similar kind have appeared, but only a small part of them are comparable in terms of the proximity of the players and the rigidity of the approach, because it is incredibly difficult to simultaneously allow yourself to get involved as deeply as possible and, at the same time, having received a knife in the back, not want to bury the traitor underground. It's about trust, and it's about content, and it's so strikingly different for different people, and there's obviously no right answer here.
when playing league of legends, one of the important skills that every player needs to develop is not to tilt. at the same time, take the game seriously, but be ready to let go of defeat, no matter how much effort you put into the game. don't go crazy when you lose a line and die ten times, and jungler yells at you as the worst possible being. it took me a few years to stop tilting, and it carried over to minecraft too – where my friends got upset, angry, and gave up, i learned to just shrug my shoulders and try again. but that didn't teach me how to deal with betrayal, even in-game, because the worst thing about betrayal is that it always comes from someone close to you. not from an accidental co-player in a match, and not as a simple accident, but as an intention to harm, even if only in the game. it is a lot to take, and the cost is too high. and, while parrot and spoke are still good friends, parrot left owner role because of the distress it gave him, so doesn't it show the presence of a real impact.
i like that we got only half-truth tho. because it is who spoke is. when he needs you to believe him, he says something actually truthful, and then – his lie and manipulation, and you eat it because believe everything to be true. even now, spoke continues to metagame. he's fine with showing that he was a dick, and he's using that to cover a part he never wants to explain. and he wouldn't.
spoke tells the truth saying he liked to do the impossible, but it is not a full answer. while s4 ending was supposed to be a relief for him, an opportunity to stop lying and being a villain, there remains something else – not only the showdown, but the guilt, the realization that you were so wrong that you hide huge chunks and you refuse to get them for another year and a half. when everything ends, when there is nowhere else to run, reflection and awareness remain. a year and a half later, from the season 6, spoke can end the video on a positive note, but for that long-time spoke, who had just released the god from his body, covered with lightning scars everywhere, absolutely not feeling like a winner, it was a bad end, and perhaps for his character, it couldn't be good.
how old was spokeishere when he did all this, 16? there is an irony that he is the worldender, the trickster, the manipulator, and he's the youngest of them all. sometimes i want to call him dumb for not being careful enough or anything else but then i do remember how he played everyone in s4. not in a big picture, but in smalltalks, toying people while they thought him to be completely harmless. spokeishere being smart is like lifesteal having its unspoken rules – you need to be too attentive to see it. often it is like a... circles on the water. you can't see a fallen pebble, but you can see the waves radiating from it. and, in the end, he is the one who did it, who succeeded, and who am i to judge him?
minecraft roleplay can do something very wrong with you, how any acting sometimes can break you apart and turn inside out. because while you are letting yourself feel like it's real, it is, at some capacity, can be real. and while it is a known factor of being an actor, it's not something you do think about when you go to play a game with your friends. sometimes it changes something very, very important in you, and sometimes you look back on that experience and realize that it hurt you. or not. everyone has their unique experiences, as always.
also, we finally found out the reason the fishing spot was so important. not only a place of friendship but also a place of the exploiting! yay!

Hiii!!! Omll I js came across your page few days ago, love the way you write the Characters!! I was wondering if I could request a Vin Jin x reader, in general just fluff and goofing off like two mischievous idiots, and Mary having to deal with their bs a lot. Also could you include Reader and Mary bonding time like I feel like they would honestly be best of friends!! 😭
If you picked this up thank you so muchhh and don't forget to take care of yourself and stay hydrated! 🫶
karaoke night ╏ vin jin + mary kim
𝄞 summary: your karaoke night with mary takes a chaotic turn.
𝄞 details: fluff, f! reader, won't make sense if you haven't read jacedaichi case files arc!
𝄞 wc: 780
𝄞 A/N: anon! thanks for being so nice 💘 hope you like it :)
the plan had been simple. you and mary, a chill karaoke night, a fun time.
until vin jin finds out, of course.
“are you kidding me? karaoke again? i’m a rapper. i’m basically built for this” he boasts. “you’re welcome for blessing you girls with my skills”
now, here he is, sitting on the couch in the private room with an air of importance.
mary sighs. “...this was supposed to be relaxing”
vin jin scoffs. “relaxing is listening to me rap. instead we’re stuck here listening to amateur hour”
you roll your eyes, flipping through the song list. “you talk a lot for someone who can’t rap on beat”
vin jin slams his hand on the table dramatically. “what did you just say? i’ll have you know my skills are—”
“trash” you say, cutting him off. “anyway mary, how do you feel about singing illusion? it's my favourite DG song!”
mary’s eyes light up. “mine too! let's do it!”
as the music starts playing, you and mary grab the mics, your voices completely off pitch, but enthusiastic nonetheless.
vin jin winces, sinking deeper into the couch — as if your singing physically hurts him.
“this is painful. how does DG even make money? they should put my songs on here instead. then you’ll see what real talent sounds like”
you smirk, lowering your mic. “your talent? you mean the ability to make everyone’s ears bleed?”
mary stifles a laugh as she tries to focus on singing.
vin jin grits his teeth. “you’re just jealous of my raw skill!”
“oh...i'll show you some raw skill alright” you shoot mary a devilish grin and select a new song.
mary’s eyes widen in horror as she sees the title. “no...you wouldn’t. stop! you know what’ll happen!”
vin jin looks confused, his eyes darting between you two. “what’s the big deal? what did she—”
the instrumental to duke’s song starts playing.
he freezes. “you…you bitch!”
to mary’s resigned disappointment — vin jin can’t stop himself.
“You look like you're an aboker, Y'all just clueless!” he barks the lyrics into the mic, standing up abruptly.
vin jin moves involuntarily to the beat, his body already betraying him.
you cackle hysterically. “oh my god, he’s doing it! he’s twerking again!”
“shut up! i can’t stop!” he shouts as his hips shake — quite aggressively.
mary watches in disbelief. “...stop twerking” she mutters.
for just a moment, mary finds herself thinking about the old days in cheonliang. the teasing, the laughter — it felt…familiar. she didn’t say it, but the sight fills her with something warm.
after some more singing (and vin jin refusing to acknowledge he’d ever twerked), the three of you wrap up the night.
vin jin had stalked off, grumbling about how he’d been “set up” and “betrayed by the system,” leaving you and mary walking home together.
“you two are exhausting” she says, though her tone is more amused than annoyed.
“pfft, admit it. watching vin twerk made your whole week” you bump elbows with her.
“watching vin twerk will haunt my whole week” she shoots back.
but mary shakes her head, her smile undeniable. “you guys are so ridiculous, but it’s kind of fun. makes me think of…”
— of her friends back in cheonliang. the teasing, the ridiculous antics, a place where mary felt like she belonged. watching you and vin jin tonight, it almost feels like those days again.
“...yeah?” you ask, noticing her distant look.
mary blinks, snapping back to the present. “nothing” she murmurs. “just thinking”
“about how you can’t wait to sing with me again?” you beam, pleased with yourself.
“...sure, we’ll go with that” she replies dryly.
as you continue down the street, the conversation shifts to lighter topics — what tunes you’d sing next time, why DG suddenly announced his retirement, and if vin would ever admit he likes duke’s songs.
when you reach her house, mary turns to you, her expression soft. “thanks for tonight. it was…nice”
you grin. “you’re welcome. karaoke wouldn’t be the same without you”
mary raises a brow. “you mean it wouldn’t be the same without vin embarrassing himself”
“okay, true. but you make it better! you keep us from being too chaotic” you nod in satisfaction.
mary rolls her eyes, but there's a flicker of genuine gratitude. “someone has to”
you smile warmly at her. “...goodnight, mary”
she gives you a wave, before disappearing inside.
you stand there for a moment in contemplation. you can’t shake the feeling that mary had more to say, but you leave her be.
you tuck the moment away, turning to head home, already thinking of what you could bring to karaoke next time.

"Are we discussing the writers intentions with Jaune, Jaune as a general character or the audience reception to Jaune and are we singling out a specific audience or the collective?"
All three really. The collective.
To start, I'm fascinated by how Jaune seems to contrast the girls in terms of their development. His growth is very loud and in your face in specific moments like Jaundice or the prom or Volume 3's finale.
Hell, his moment in the Battle for Haven has him not getting the trauma induced power up to punch Cinder hard but rather to heal Weiss. After that, he's to the side healing those who need it. It's a big moment but his only moment aside from a small passing mention of his semblance.
It feels like peaks and valley when it comes to the times when he gets the focus.
All while the girls have each of their journeys spread across the whole show's intended run. Ruby's arc of trying to move forward too much has always been there but with weekly episode releases and hiatuses between seasons, it's causes even those who are well meaning to overlook it.
I don't know if that came out right so make of my thoughts what you will.
OK so its too hot for me to do any recording or other projects but I can answer asks, so let's get to this (Cracks bottle of cold water over my head) Let's do this!
So, Jaune is certainly a divisive character and while I have warmed up to him somewhat over the years, and while I adore RWBY I often feel he can be a disruptive element, but also one that does in fact serve a purpose. Keep that in mind for my response going forward.
So, touching on your stuff first, it is interesting, though I would argue against the idea that the girls don't also at times have very loud character development.
Weiss's shifter after talking to Port, her summons, the Atlas party, ETC. Blake running away & confronting Roman, her everything with Ilia, the final confrontation with Adam and the Bees kiss as just some examples.
Interestingly Ruby and Yang are on the more quiet end of character development scales with stuff building up slowly and quietly. Though not without their big moments, Ruby's eulogy and explosion, Yang's confrontation with Raven and the bees kiss, ETC.
Still, I think I see what you mean in how these things tend to be framed and handled in a much more varied way than media usually does.
IE, Jaune losing it at Cinder in V5 is basically him lacing the temperament of a Huntsmen that his allies have and it accomplishes nothing on his end as far as "Badass confrontation" goes and instead he only starts to grow after leaning into the role of support & healer, even defaulting more to Yang as leader in V7 during their rescue work.
Overall and I said this in my Bees essay that CRWBY like long form story telling, and that influences a lot of how RWBY is written.
In these regards Jaune does feel interesting/odd because he does have several... Archetypical moments of character growth as you say. What's interesting to me and what I think the writers are going for is that how good some of these even are for him can be questionable.
What I mean is like...
Jaune went to Beacon with a very "Idiot Shounen hero" attitude towards things. He cheated his way into an elite school and kind of just assumed it'd work out. He didn't try that hard in classes till he was being blackmailed, rejected help out of pride and even when he did seek it out it was only after he had a "win" under his belt that wasn't even wholly his but he doesn't know that.
The thing is, very little ever went Jaune's way on these things either in the short term or long term.
IE, he short term he showed up at Beacon and nearly died and or failed (Subversion of his shounen expectations.) But then he was helpedby a cool girl who ineplicably liked him and said he had a lot of Aura! (This falls in line with his Shounen expectations!)
But then it turns out he still sucks at classes and having what a girl who has a crush on you says is a lot of Aura doesn't mean much when surrounded by other people who also have a lot of Aura and have been training all their lives (Subversion again)
He then manages to retain his pride and defend his team and wins a battle "All on his own" except he ignored Glynda's advice and only won because Pyrrha guided his hand. Though after this he did swallow his pride and get help, its sort of net neutral?
Moving forward he wasn't that involved in the plot, but his stuff in V2, was very "Standard" school stuff, but then it was followed up by his love interest also being his mentor being a problem because Pyrrha fulfilled the trope of the mentor dying. Jaune was also cut out of that entire conflict (Wisely) because he's not actually the main character and he'd only get in the way. (Subversions all round! Be it for the cool girl liking the Shounen loser, him not being the MC, Pyrrha being his mentor and the tragic "Brightest of their generation" before she was his love interest and so on!)
Just within the first three volumes we see that there's this dichotomy of Jaune trying t and sometimes even getting to play much more standard story beats "Straight" that RWBY usually avoid. Only for them to then get blindsided by RWBY's more subversive elements.
But the key thing here is you only notice the latter if you pay attention to the whole, and not the individual moments. This is a problem I had with Jaune till about V6/7; because despite my insights here I do think the execution has been murky more often than not.
Still, with the above in mind, I think one can easily where how things flow out from there, with Jaune trying to play these self assigned roles and getting these moments of "Standard storytelling."
Only for something to come along later and put a spin on it.
V4 Jaune gives a nice speech to Ruby but it ultimately just serves to reinforce her burgeoning issues because he also missed her tendency to repress and when placed in a scenario like he would have been with Pyrrha he froze up and couldn't act, IE Tyrian almost getting Ruby.
He finally got his big speech and rage at Cinder, but was actively being told to chill by Qrow and Cinder gives near zero fucks and rather than getting a power up he gains a power that assigns him a support role over a "badass" role.
We also get to see something in V6 which I thin is often neglected in Jaune analysis, that boy has a fucking temper!
We've seen it with him shouting at Pyrrha, at Cinder and then outright attacking Oscar. But he always calms down afterwards and no one seems to hold it against him, but the thing is this means he never really works on it. The only thing that can shut it down is his own sense of shame rather than actual self control like say, Yang has.
But I digress, my interpretation of the writers intent but I basically think Jaune is meant to serve four purposes in the narrative:
1: Counterpart & foil to Ruby as leaders with very different skills & roles in universe. 2: Counterpart & commentary on shitty male authority figures who needs to unlearn toxic masculinity. 3: A longform subversion of the typical "idiot Shounen hero" who gets by on gumption and lots of natural talent. 4: The closest person we get to a wholly normal person in universe, as even Oscar has an ancient wizard in his head.
These are all interesting things and I can see what the creators are aiming for, or so I believe. However, I do think the execution of all this is often murky.
The short form stuff I mention above is some of the hardest to grapple with cos until you see it pay off it just seems like standardized story tropes, and even then the emphasis these ideas require to work can be disruptive to other characters narrative importance.
What's more while interesting and impossible to fully comment on until the story is wholly done, it is hard to say how strictly necessary some of these ideas are to explore given RWBY's limited run time. & the fact some of them could be divided up and given to more temporary characters who don't need as much narrative real estate.
Thus I can definitely get why people often find Jaune frustrating. Hell, I can often find him frustrating, especially because I think some of his traits are meant to evoke a degree or irritation with him. But all of this also feeds into why he can be such a divisive character.
As for people who just project onto Jaune and make him super harm big badass, ugh, idiots unworthy of consideration who frankly shouldn't be watching RWBY, I have nothing to say to them.
Anyway I hope this was coherent, thanks for the ask, sorry it took so long!

In honour of the Onyx Storm midnight release TODAY, here’s one last, extremely unhinged, theory.
Hear me out. I finished my re-read last night and something didn’t sit right with me. We know that Xaden’s been having dreams of the Sage, just like Violet, but it’s clear at the end of Iron Flame that he knows more than he’s letting on (shocker I know).
The venin leader (the Sage), who we later find out is actually a general, is referred to as “him” several times. By Jack, by Xaden, by the other venin. It almost seems personal. It also seems personal when Xaden tells Violet, “I killed him.” She describes his voice as being flat and emotionless after, almost like he’s sad. Why would Xaden be upset over killing the venin general?
Stay with me it’s getting good, I promise. We learn in Fourth Wing that Xaden is the grandson of Sgaeyl’s previous rider. The one who, and I quote, “didn’t make it through the quadrant”. We also learn that this was 50 years ago.
Why else is 50 years significant? Xaden tells Violet on the roof of Riorson house that they’re “fifty years too late” when it comes to fighting the venin war.
Also, Sgaeyl freaks out when Xaden pulls from the earth. I mean naturally, that’s her rider and she’s obviously upset, but what if it’s more than that. What if it reminds her of something.
What if, XADEN’S GRANDFATHER, Sgaeyl’s previous rider, IS THE VENIN GENERAL?!
Yes I know, very unhinged and unlikely.
But:
-It could explain Sgaeyl’s anger/reaction to Xaden drawing.
-I don’t think it ever states in the book that Xaden’s grandfather was dead. Just that he “didn’t make it through the quadrant”. Maybe he turned instead? Or even if it does say he died, so did Jack Barlowe.
-Her last rider being 50 years ago and them being 50 years too late seems a little much to be a coincidence, at least in my opinion.
Also,
-Is this the whole reason Fen started the rebellion in the first place? To expose him?
And yes I know, there are plenty of theories out there that make Naolin the Sage, but this makes more sense as to why Xaden’s connected. I mean what could Naolin possibly want with Xaden. But yes, I do think Naolin is also a venin, just not this specific one.
Also, Naolin only ‘died’ 6 years ago. One would assume that a general would be around for a lot longer than that. Say like, 50 years?
Anyways, like I said, very unhinged. Just something I put together after finishing my re-read that I haven’t been able to stop thinking about.
Guess we’ll have some answers soon enough!!

I dont care about Tommy or the feels. Quackity's ending is the true ending of Las Nevadas and Jack manifold can suck his apples about it. I despise his ending "taking over Las Nevadas". Leave Las Nevadas blown up, and good residence.
While i think is sweet Tommy and Jack cooked up a good ending to Tommys lore after everything, I do NOT like idea of Jack who did basically nothing for Las Nevadas lore "inherit it" without any say or input from the CCs who actually fucking DID contribute to the lore, hell, i dont like dream and he contributed more than Jack.
My honest opinion i never liked Jack he always seemed the odd man out, the plus one and I was honestly surpised to learn he was ever on the DSMP because he gave off the guy off not apart of the main group (that group being the dsmp players) but there for kicks because the group enjoyed him as a friend. Of corse this is horrible wrong, hes BEEN on the dsmp what the fuck am i on.
He just gives off... off putting vibes i avoid? Even more so than the others? I dont have a justified reason yet. Yet.
But my way to have my cake and eat it too is that Jack Manifold is writing letters to Tommy, keeping touch and is jusy lying out of his fucking ass to Tommy so he wont worry about him. Las Nevadas did get blown up, twice. Once by Dream and Purpled, rebuilt by Quackity, Foolish and Sam, then blown up again, by Quackity himself and that is its end.
And thats my take. That way Quackity didnt recon his lore, because he DID talk with Foolish about rebuilding in the "orginal ending", and i get the Tommy happy ending.
My bias for this version doesnt explictly come from a hatred for Jack specifically, but generally tired how on the dsmp the CCs are CONSTANTLY contridicting and ignoring eachothers lore, i remember hearing stories from early drama of people not being warned about their builds being destroyed for lore reasons and having their lored ignored by more popular CCs and even Quackity has fallen victim to this by Wilbur who in hindsight was NORTIOUS for doing this to his fellow CCs, if he couldnt rewrite their lore or control it.
So it just bugs me a lot to see Jack and kinda also Tommy jump onto that train and try and "claim" las nevadas, even if as a joke. It rubs me the wrong way and i DO NOT LIKE IT ONE BIT. .
And it makes it all the more satisfying after stewing in that bitterness for some weeks on end, month or two maybe, that Quackity blew it up. Now no one can have it. Its gone. And i rather leave it that way.
#dsmp#jack manifold#jack manifold slander#jack manifold slander for no justified reason#tommyinnit#tommy mentioned i guess#quackity#las nevadas#quackitys ending >>> jacks ending

New still of Dylan O'Brien as Rocky/ Roman and James Sweeney as Dennis in "Twinless". (2025)
📷©: ew.com
First look at Dylan O’Brien’s Twinless, a Sundance contender that takes inspiration from the Olsen twins
"That visceral moment of 'you look just like me' is imprinted in my formative memories," says writer-director James Sweeney.
Nineties kids are kind of obsessed with twins. And for good reason — we grew up with the Olsen twins, the remake of The Parent Trap, and Sister, Sister.
Writer-director James Sweeney takes that obsession to the next level with Twinless, his sophomore feature that will have its world premiere on Jan. 23 at the Sundance Film Festival. Entertainment Weekly has your exclusive first look at the film, in which Sweeney costars alongside Dylan O'Brien.
"I grew up in a generation that idolized twins," Sweeney tells EW. "It was very much in my zeitgeist. It was a manifestation of the perfect best friend, somebody you could share everything with. As a military brat hopping around, that was something I really craved. When I told my stepmom about what the film was, she was like, 'Oh, you used to beg me for a twin, and I had to explain to you that I can't make that happen.'"
That early fascination is evident in Twinless, which even features a scene with a character watching the Olsen twins' film It Takes Two. "That was definitely my fantasy," Sweeney says of the 1995 film. "It's like, 'Oh, one day I'll just magically run into my identical twin.' Even though they're actually not twins, they're just lookalikes. But that visceral moment of 'You look just like me' is imprinted in my formative memories."
As for Twinless, the film tells the story of a twin, Roman (O'Brien), who loses his brother, Rocky (also O'Brien), and feels like he's lost half of himself. After Rocky dies, Roman decides to stay in Rocky's Portland, OR apartment as he navigates his grief. While attending a support group for twin loss, he befriends Dennis (Sweeney), a fellow lost soul — and the two find solace in each other, forming an unlikely bromance.
"Roman and Dennis get along so well because they're both bringing their respective baggage and grief and traumas to the table," Sweeney says. "They bond and complement each other."
Sweeney is not a twin, but he did base his script on the existence of twin bereavement support groups. Though, out of respect for all involved, he didn't attend one of their meetings. "I thought it would be too much to attend," he explains. "I did order a book from their website, because I did research and read some books written by twin psychologists. One was called Alone in the Mirror, which touches on twin loss. It was written by the co-founder of the support group, and I paid $25 and they never sent me a book."
Even without that book (he tried!), Sweeney was fascinated by the psychology of twins and how that unique bond differs from those of siblings who are not twins. "I would say being a twin isn't a monolithic experience, so there's so many variations," Sweeney notes. "It also has a lot to do with how the parents reared their children and whether or not they encouraged or discouraged individuality between the twins. But there's a lot of studies done on twins because they see them as the perfect specimen."
Explorating what it means to be (and lose) a twin first attracted O'Brien to the project. Sweeney wrote the first draft in 2015, and O'Brien has been attached since 2020. But the script grabbed the actor from the moment it popped up in his inbox alongside several others his manager sent his way.
"I'm fascinated by it in terms of it being something so unique on this earth," O'Brien says of the twin dynamic. "That is one of those things that really, unless you experience it, you can't understand. Twinless support groups exist because it is a very specific loss and trauma that you need support with — losing a connectivity that us normies can't ever quite understand. That deeply resonated with me, even though I don't have a twin. I found it to be a really compelling and heart-wrenching center to this story. This tragically poignant tale of this kid losing his other half."
That, along with his love for his character, propelled O'Brien to stick with the project these last five years while the film searched for funding and postponed production in the wake of the 2023 Hollywood strikes. "It was a gut thing for me," O'Brien reflects. "I remember falling in love with Roman immediately. I read a character, and either I have that soul in me or not. Roman's somebody I know really deep down."
Sweeney was incredibly moved by O'Brien's dedication and enthusiasm for the project, a quality that was evident from their first meeting. "When I first met Dylan over Zoom, he really took ownership over the role in a way that I had never experienced with an actor," Sweeney says. "He basically said, 'I see you. I see your voice. I understand this character and his every emotion.' That gave me a lot of confidence."
For both O'Brien and Sweeney, getting to make this movie entirely on their terms was a creative reward unto itself. "The script was so fantastic and dialed in from the time I first read it," O'Brien notes. "I authentically connected to it all. It was one of those wonderful creative experiences."
But now they get to share it with the world, beginning in the U.S. Dramatic Competition at the Sundance Film Festival. Still, Sweeney says anything from here on is a cherry on top of his twin sundae.
"This was an instance where I had optimal creative control and a wonderful team championing me to do exactly the movie I wanted to make," he concludes. "I know that's a rare gift. I'm super excited for people to see the film and to find its audience. But as far as I'm concerned, I'm already content."

Just want to point out cause the rebloggers seem to think otherwise, OP is in fact Jewish and has been posting about antisemitism from a Jewish perspective and is also generally pro ADL other than this post
Also Elon Musk has done more than enough stuff with visiting Auschwitz and making public statements against antisemitism and all that to have enough plausible deniability that all his fans (including the Jewish ones) are very more than willing to accept that it’s a mistake. and guys, Elon musk does have a lot of Jewish fans. Like go find your right wing Jewish friends and ask them what they think of Elon Musk, I dare you
Like my friend says her Dad hates his boss at the ADL for how much he likes Elon Musk
I would like to believe they have a plan for this too and this isn’t gonna effect them being my number one source for antisemitism statistics in the US and all that, but I don’t have much faith in this tweet being part of a greater plan. The US rn has a huge problem with nazi apologists and I don’t see how more nazi apologism is gonna help with that.
Like, if they’re plan is to get everyone who does something antisemitic to say they’re against antisemitism actually without recognizing they did an antisemitism is gonna help at all
I fear that that may actually lead to more antisemitism along with a healthy dose of gaslighting about the antisemitism ever happening. Especially when it’s in the form of nazi symbolism.
Also I fear this may be part of a general right wing shift. The Jewish community in the US, (at least the parts I’m in) have been shifting right recently especially in the past year. For the Jews in the audience (not just the US ones), think of how many friends and family you have who lean towards trump because “he’s good for Israel” like I can’t even tell you how many times I’ve heard “I mean yeah he’s not the best but he’s good for Israel”
Elon Musk is part of the right wing government. Maybe the ADL is trying to avoid getting their government funding cut by calling out Elon Musk. But this does make me genuinely afraid for how they’re going to continue in the future when it comes to calling out right wing figures for antisemitism. If we’re starting off the term with letting Elon musk get away with a Nazi salute and the increased censorship across social medias after Tik tok ban, I have genuine concerns for the next four years because I don’t see how this doesn’t go downhill from here
Guys, it’s been one day of trump and the ADL is already being a nazi apologist for Elon musk
Guys... the ADL said, and I quote (quoting manually because fuck nazi twitter I'm not embedding it and I can't be arsed to screencap, google for confirmation if you want),
"This is a delicate moment. It’s a new day and yet so many are on edge. Our politics are inflamed, and social media only adds to the anxiety. It seems that
@elonmusk
made an awkward gesture in a moment of enthusiasm, not a Nazi salute, but again, we appreciate that people are on edge. In this moment, all sides should give one another a bit of grace, perhaps even the benefit of the doubt, and take a breath. This is a new beginning. Let’s hope for healing and work toward unity in the months and years ahead."
Bull. Fucking. Shit. That was a nazi salute, done to the crowd and then a second time to the flag. By a guy who's said a lot of antisemitic shit and sympathized with/endorsed nazis up to and including AfD in Germany.
The Usual Suspects are eating this up and talking about how this proves people talking about "antisemitism" are just trying to defend Israeli war crimes and don't care about Diaspora Jews.
You've seen the stuff I reblog; we're in a "broken clock sorta right twice a day" situation. While I disgree with them strongly on a lot of things (far more than I did sixteen months ago), I think they're right about one thing here.
We can't trust the ADL anymore. If they refuse to acknowledge Musk's fucking sieg heil, we cannot rely on them to reliably fight antisemitism anymore.
I understand why they may feel the need to make compromises to have continued access to the halls of power and avoid being institutionally attacked... but while those compromises may protect them it leaves those they exist to protect high and dry.
Stay safe everyone.

232 Years Ago King Louis XVI got beheaded - and here is why!
Okay, I kinda wanted to make this one later, but then a friend said that it would be dumb, because today is the darn anniversary of this event. Which is correct.
So, in Castlevania Nocturne we see the execution of King Louis XVI, which evokes three emotions of the characters watching it.
Annette goes: "Good riddance." Richter goes: "Well, but is this right?" Alucard goes: "Well, this will make things go bad."
But here is the thing. Most of us have suffered through very bad history classes, in which we kinda learned about the French Revolution, but probably did not REALLY learn anything about it. I tried it with my friends. Nobody could tell me either why Louis was executed, nor could anyone tell me why the Revolution actually failed. People were fairly sure that it failed, but that was about all they could tell me.
So, let me go a bit into Louis and the Revolution.
Louis was one of those kings who were really bad with the one thing that kings are supposed to make: decisions. When the people started to rise up, and get into a bit of a revolutionary mood, Louis was very, very indecisive on what to do. A lot of people at the time made jokes about how Marie Antoinette was the actual person who was doing all those decisions and what not, because Louis was so bad with his indecision.
When the people got angry, he kinda hesitantly agreed to allow an elected government, as long as he could veto everything. And the elected government was basically made up 25% of nobles, and 25% of clergy (despite clergy and nobles only making up about 3% of the population) and only 50% supposed peasants. And then they wanted to make it, that the nobles and clergy members would not meet with the peasants.
However, some of the nobles did rise up against this (mainly nobles that themselves were marginalized through queerness or disability) and basically the National Assembly formed, there was a declaration of the rights of men, and the constitution was written. And what France at the time were aiming for was a Constitutional Monarchy - the same way that England was having it.
It was especially Lafayette who pushed for this and was doing his best to a) protect the king, and b) stopped the violence from escalating. Historians to this day are kinda discussing whether he wanted to increase his own influence, or whether he really just saw the writing on the wall of how much the violence were going to escalate.
And generally at the time the people were still quite benevolent towards the king. It was like: "Yay, we are all a big French family, and the king is out father! Fraternity!"
Either way: Louis and his family were made to live in Paris, being guarded by Lafayette and the National Guard. Until one day in 1791 Louis and family suddenly were gone. The official narration was: "Oh, the king got kidnapped." But a lot of people at the time were like:
Pretty much nobody fell for it.
Louis and his family have of course fled and tried to flee the country. Their flight was kinda dumb. They dressed as peasants, but also had the fanciest fucking carriage that you could imagine. And after a while Louis started to talk with the people, despite everyone knowing what he looked like (mainly because he had a very distinctive nose). And at some point someone was like: "Yeah, no, this is the supposedly kidnapped king. I am gonna alarm someone." And then Louis was dragged back to Paris, just shortly because he managed to reach the Belgian border.
He was dragged back to Paris, and it was then that the discussions really started of what was supposed to happen with him. Mainly, too, because at this point some of the surrounding kings started to be a bit nervous about the entire thing. Originally they were happy that France was less of a danger to them, but then they were like: "Oh, shit, if the people get ideas from this, they might dispose us, too." So they started to think about a) saving Louis and his family, and b) getting rid of this darn revolution.
And of course Louis, now stopped from fleeing, tried to communicate and collaborate with those other kings. And came out.
Now, the Revolutionaries originally declared war at the other kings - and Louis even agreed. The Revolutionaries agreed, because they knew they could not cower before the kings and show weakness. Louis agreed, because he hoped it would mean he would get saved. And so France went to war with a variety of neighboring regions.
And it was in this situation that people were starting to look at Louis and think: "Maybe he needs to die. Maybe we need to make a point out of killing him."
The national assembly voted on it, and by a margin of JUST ONE SINGLE VOTE they eventually decided to execute him. Mainly to make a point about their Revolution. And Louis was then very quickly executed within just two days on the morning of January 21st.

(For the kids)How do you feel being your parents’ child? What kind of person is your carrier/sire?
Skystrophe:
Oh, these questions are… unusual. (Look around anxiously) So am I allowed to say anything..? Will they watch this show…? Ok…
I wanna say that many bots say it’s lucky for me to have Optimus and Megatron as my parents… but the truth is, having them as parents really brings me a lot of pressure. It’s… not so easy to be the only child of two extraordinary people, and you know you’re not so extraordinary yourself. I mean, I am only “just ok” at many things they can easily do great. It’s just… I’m still trying to figure out.
My carrier is a very strong bot. By that, I mean he’s powerful, not only in battles and strategies, but in the will. I think there’s nothing in the world that can defeat him, or make him feel defeated. When he’s with us, he’s always happy, confident, full of energy. When sire feels unsure, he is there to boost his spirits. When I feel insecure, knowing that he is there for me, always makes me feel better.
My sire, on the other hand, is umm, stricter. I know he means well. He told me all about those stories of heroes and primes, and responsibility comes with strength. He’s a lovable bot, of course. And he’s gentle with me. It’s just, I don’t know. Maybe it’s the way he talks. He makes me feel… nervous.
Jinglestorm:
Being my parents’ child, it’s a lot of fun! They both like to play, so I’ve got plenty of time playing with them. We go racing on the plains, have a picnic in the woods, or play chess and other board games at home. Oh! And they love video games too! We also play video games.
And my sire, he’s a wonderful bot. He’s fun, energetic. He talks a lot, which is sometimes a little bit annoying. Hmm. But he’s actually the decision maker in our house, kind of? Him and my carrier take turns being the brain. But because of my carrier’s “unstable” issue, sire did play the brain most of the time, though he sometimes came up with bad ideas and I had to stop him from dragging us all in.
My carrier is— very well known among us kids. The cool triple changer, the only one alive by now.* He is also not very stable, and we know that. Besides that, my carrier went through a lot in past wars. Sometimes he’s still haunted by his past ghosts. But he doesn’t need to worry, because I am always there for him.
*It’s my headcanon and part of the plots of Heroic Nonsense, where Blitzwing’s triple changer form came from a secret experiment project carried out by autobots. The project failed because most of the subjects suffered serious complications— they developed split personality disorders and became overly aggressive and easier to get killed in the battlefield. Blitzwing is the only survivor.
Clobber:
Hmm, I don’t know. I guess I’m lucky to be my parents’ child. I’m happy and comfortable living with them. My parents knew each other for very long before I was born. They have a tacit understanding that made everything simple. We three are quite alike as well.
My carrier is the brain of our family. It’s easy to tell. Sire even calls her “General” as a loving nickname. And also, she’s really my role model. Her talents go beyond military strategies. She has wisdom and courage to deal with a lot of trivial stuff as well. As for my sire, he’s more of a kind-hearted, good tempered bot. He cooks really well and takes all the gardening work. By that I mean, work like making a fishpond in our backyard. More delicate job like planting is done by me. I heard that they were notorious decepticon war machines in the past. I always imagine how badass they can be! But I don’t have the luck to witness that. All I got are two big bots fond of their own hobbies and get along well with the neighbors.
Just for the reminder:
Skystrophe— Megatron and Optimus’s son, Megatron is the carrier
Jinglestorm— Blitzwing and Bumblebee’s daughter, Blitzwing is the carrier
Clobber— Strika and Lugnut’s daughter, Strika is the carrier

Some older TWST-related asks that aren’t short short, but aren’t very long either. Took me a long time to reply to these as well, so thank you everyone for waiting!
About Leona being lazy, boys shoving coins when they shouldn’t, fae having nipples + some music-related replies.
Anonymous asked:
Wait!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Would Leona pay Ruggie (Or someone else) to give him a handjob so he doesn't have to jerk himself off?
Hmm, I wouldn’t put it completely past him lol But I also don’t think he would pay actual money for that… for some reason I feel like it would hurt his ego a little bit. As if what Ruggie is doing for him isn’t within the same realm!! lol
Ruggie would absolutely do it for money though, and I like to think that they have some kind of mutually beneficial relationships in this aspect of life as well. Maybe sometimes Ruggie helps him to jerk off or just fucks him, but while he doesn’t get compensated for that right then and there with money, there are some other benefits that he obtains for doing such an important job.
Anonymous asked:
You know the coin comic made me think
These people have def shoved things up their ass and didn't get them out anymore, some probably make you wonder how they even managed to get in there at all
Oh god… these boys and their sexual experiments… if something like this happened, it would become the hottest gossip topic for like 2 weeks at least lol this poor guy. Even if it’s just “did you hear that someone shoved (???) in their ass and couldn’t take it out” without naming any names, the boy would get instantly red. He knows what he did. He knows this is him everyone’s talking about.
Maybe it would be someone like Deuce or Epel… Hard to say though, a bit difficult to imagine other boys going through something like that lol but maybe it’s even more fun if it’s so unexpected. No one would expect someone like Jamil to get stuck in this situation, but what if…
Also, Lilia put stuff in other people’s asses before… if he met someone in NRC who is deeply shaken by the thing they can’t pull out of their own ass, he’ll gladly tell a lot of very interesting and disturbing but hilarious stories about all the things he shoved in other people when he was younger lol And that wouldn’t help at all!!
Anonymous asked:
Thought of a LiliSil scenario you might like, though maybe someone else already thought of it before and I can’t remember- General Lilia gets pissed off at Silver for calling him “Father” all the time, and rapes him to try and make him stop. Somehow, fucking Silver only makes him call him that more. Like;
General Lilia: Would your ‘Father’ do THIS to you?
Silver: Actually, yes
LOL YES general Vanrouge you have no idea how much this boy’s father loves him.
Would that make him more or less amused about being called “father” by him…
thestarlightfae asked:
You two make a good point about Melanor. There is only one answer. She is wearing fake boobs. In book 7 I believe it states that baby fae drink nectar, not milk so no fae are mammalian. Therefore no fae should have breast or nipples. As such any fae who do appear to have nipples or breasts are wearing fake ones. Sebek it could go either way for cause he is half human, but for the others, their nipples (and breasts) are fake.
Now then. On to Kifaji/Neji. He is bird beast men. So do the bird traits cancel out the nipples or do the human traits override the bird traits to give him nipples anyways?
And what about the octatrio? They are fish. Fish are famously not mammals and very nippleless. Do the octatrio have fake nipples too?
Floyd’s tropical wear groovy shows areola but not actual nipples. The same is true for Lilia. We don’t see Azul’s chest in his tropical wear art, but in his overblot form we see no nipples or areola. The same is true for his merform in book 7. The same is true of the twins merforms. So the fae have fake nipples, areola, and breast. For the mer, their transformation potions give them areola but not nipples and they have neither in they’re true for.
Anything to add to my professional scientific paper Ryu? Katsu? Other viewers?
Malleus and Meleanor, since their initial appearance seems to be of a dragon, probably have to use magic to transform into humans… I guess it’s safe to say that they just pick whether they want to have boobs/nipples or not lol So that tracks.
But also there are a lot of different kinds of fae though, technically dwarves are also fae, so maybe there are some mammalian fae? And Lilia, being a bat, once again, has nipples…
Sebek probably has nipples, but if fae of his kind normally don’t, he probably has a lot of opinions about having them lol
Kifaji is confusing; we haven’t properly seen him in an event yet because we haven’t watched that one (as if it would mention Kifaji’s nipples LOL). But I wouldn’t be surprised if he didn’t have those?? But that would probably also mean that he has a cloaca, do what you will with that information.
We do have all the information needed for merpeople though!! It’s pretty much like you said; I don’t think they have any nipples normally; aside from our boys, some random npc mermen didn’t have any either. But since the octatrio transforms with a potion, they do have them because it changes their appearance to match the humans’ perfectly. Some things about their physique is different, i.e. Azul probably still having the strengths of his octopus muscles, Jade not feeling cold, but appearance-wise they are 100% two-legged human, hence the nipples. So yeah, I’m not sure if Floyd had only areola and not the nipples on that card… it’s an interesting thing to headcanon, but I think it’s just a case of them not wanting to draw very detailed nipples to keep age ratings low lol Ace’s look the same.
You know what’s amazing? Yana 100% has thoughts about every single one of these topics.
bunbotbuggiman asked:
potentially a weird/random ask, but do you have/what are some songs you associate with floyd and riddle? (was scrolling thru ur florid tag and thought I'd ask lmao sorry if this really comes out of nowhere)
For example, and this is a pretty obvious one ik, but "Good Girls Go Bad" by Cobra Starship and "Cake by the Ocean" by DNCE are pretty big florid songs to me.
If you don't have any for them, hb for any other twst characters? or for your aus?
Hi and sorry for the late reply! Thank you so much for enjoying our FloRid stuff. We love these idiots a lot <3
Unfortunately, I am not really someone to usually have songs associated with ships, as I listen to the same bunch of songs over and over throughout my entire life… But one of the songs that comes to mind is Tenohira by Mr.Children, mostly because this is the song from the “Spitting while Kissing” (キスをしながら唾を吐け) meme, the one where a couple fights viciously despite having feelings for each other lol Oh look, someone made a FloRid version of it!! Perfect.
The lyrics are somewhat more sentimental, but if you squint…
Spit while kissing
meant to lick but bit
meant to put it on you but tore it up
and again, seek love
we don’t need to be one
if we accept one another that’s enough
That will give us the light that will rain down
gently, and scatter the darkness before us.
The vibes of “Pedestrian at Best” by Courtney Barnett also give me some FloRid feels sometimes! Not in its entirety, but some parts feel very Floyd-like to me.
I love you, I hate you, I'm on the fence, it all depends
Whether I'm up, I'm down, I'm on the mend, transcending all reality
I like you, despise you, admire you
What are we gonna do when everything all falls through?
I must confess, I've made a mess of what should be a small success
But I digress, at least I've tried my very best, I guess
This, that, the other, why even bother?
It won't be with me on my deathbed, but I'll still be in your head
"Good Girls Go Bad" by Cobra Starship does feel perfect for them, I completely agree with you lol “Cake by the Ocean” feels like a song Floyd wound enjoy dancing to, and yes, I also can see your point here as well. Also, the music clip makes me think of the Stitch event…
As for the other characters, Katsu sent me one particular cover of “I can’t help falling in love with you” and said that it feels like Azul’s POV for Azul/Idia, and I’ve been associating this song with them ever since lol
Also, the song “Ghosts” from the game Night In The Woods gives me Idia (optionally, Shroudcest) vibes.
We also associate some characters with Tom Cardy songs but I won’t tell whom because I need to stay motivated to draw a thingie related to this!!! We’ve been wanting to do it for almost two years now…
blackbutlerfandomnerddomain asked:
I just want to say recently I got obsessed with this song from Straight Outta Oz called "Papi" and I personally see it for any/alot of Divus x ship but I also lowkey see it as a scene for like if Jamil gets potioned to be extra flirty, I just wanna share it
That “recently” isn’t very recent anymore probably…
Divus x Jamil you say hmmmmm. There is something to consider here…
The thirst of the song is real tho lol

Giving Niall & Harry the benefit of the doubt I think it’s probably a really weird thing to navigate everyone sending you condolences because you were so publicly linked together when in reality they were not very close and hadn’t been for a long time. I think it’s telling that they both included condolences to Liam’s family in their posts while Zayn & Louis didn’t (not saying they didn’t send them condolences privately but specifically in their posts). Usually only the people closest to the person who has passed don’t include condolences and paired with the overall tone & content I think it’s a good indicator that they don’t see themselves in that immediate circle and they don't want to give off the impression that they are.
But I also think their posts have a lot to do with them as people removed from their relationship with Liam. Obviously we don’t actually know but you couldn’t convince me that Liam was in contact with Zayn more than Niall but Zayn is less afraid of speaking his mind. There’s a reason Niall is able to “avoid drama” and why they used to call him a fence-sitter in the band, it’s not difficult to seem unproblematic if you avoid anything controversial at all and within the last couple years Liam became one of those controversial things he ignored. Part of me doesn’t fault him for that because he always tries to protect his personal peace and his brand, it’s not something he exclusively did to Liam but it’s still disappointing he didn’t make an exception for him. Maybe I’m being too generous but I think he probably regrets that, especially knowing how awful his fans were to him in his last days. I think Harry also probably feels that regret and guilt to some extent too which would also explain the surface level statements because their true feelings are much more complex and imo would frame them in a more negative light if they were honest. This is all just speculation but some part of them probably wants to avoid making it seem like they were still super close and avoid accepting all those condolences due to the guilt of knowing that they weren’t actually there for him when he needed it.
That being said they definitely could’ve ignored their relationship post 1D completely and just talked about what he meant to the band, especially knowing how much people were trying to erase his importance, knowing that ALL the members reiterated how important he was would’ve meant a lot but they didn’t do that for him and that hurts.
I understand what you’re saying about them just not posting anything but honestly I think it was better for them to just do it even if it was surface level because otherwise it would’ve just turned into “why aren’t they posting?” even worse than it did when Niall’s was delayed a bit. It would’ve just pulled focus away from Liam even more so I’m personally glad they at least put something out. Even if we understand that people are not owed a public display of grief that’s certainly not the overall consensus of the general public (which is crazy on it's own). I don’t doubt that they felt pressured to put out statements but unfortunately that’s the world we’re living in and I think it probably would’ve been worse in the long run if they hadn’t put out anything at all.
I do think it's important to note that in the same way we have now been able to process things differently with time (I have felt a million different ways about their posts/treatment of Liam in general the past few months with varying degrees of anger) it's likely they also feel differently about things after having time to process. Regardless of their relationship with him or how good/bad of friends they were knowing that millions of people are going to read your statement and scrutinize it after only a day of finding out the news, at which point most people are still in shock, is a lot of pressure. I can some what understand taking the easy way out and posting something less personal and more manufactured under those circumstances. Maybe they would change what they wrote, maybe they wouldn't we don't know.
I think ultimately it’s just so disappointing that Liam showed up for everyone time and time again but only some chose to return the favor both when he was alive and after.
(Sorry this is so long and if you're over talking about this don't feel the need to respond, I completely understand)
I think you are being incredibly generous and kind with your evaluation of Niall and Harry's actions. Even if I deem Liam to be so controversial that it would be career suicide to be seen with him, I still cannot understand or comprehend leaving him to struggle when he clearly needed help, support and understanding. Of course, at the end of the day, it was Liam's responsibility alone to stop himself from going down the path again, and I don't claim to know how difficult struggling with addiction is, but any kind of support must have helped. Even putting their own rabid fans off of his scent would have helped. I don't think anyone expected either of them to write out essays in his support but even a word, a like, a repost. But I get it. Their brand and image is paramount, right?
Imagine having friends that stop talking to you because you are not as popular or you've not sold as many records. When Liam said the industry was scary this must have been a part of that surely. I think it's easy being friends with someone who's doing alright, but the moment comes and they're having a bad time and you just... Leave them? Stop acknowledging them? It's like the previous years of history meant nothing. I cannot imagine what it must have been like for Liam.
Liam was called out for being a lot of things, cringe, a loser, and what not. But he was never unkind? He reached out to everyone going through a tough time and when he needed help, he found no one to do it for him. Except Louis. And I am sorry but I don't think the lack of support from Niall and Harry was just disappointing. And I understand they needed to protect their personal brand and their mental peace, but I just cannot get behind or support people like that. I think that's a horrible thing to do to someone who you used to know. I think it's like slowly becoming a part of the machinery that you detested but since it cannot hurt you anymore, you embrace the system. Especially when you have made your own personal brand about treating people with kindness. Who decides who deserves this kindness then?
I hope they do feel regret. I know it sounds horrible but I hope they feel regret every single day of their lives that they took back their support from a person who needed it the most. Every single day, we hear so many stories of so many people helping each other, random acts of kindness that warm our hearts. I think of the many random strangers even Niall and Harry must have helped, but they couldn't speak one word of support for someone who used to be their friend. At least someone they used to pretend to be friends with when the act brought in the big bucks.
As for Zayn, maybe he didn't speak to Liam any more than Niall did. But to judge him by the same parameters, is kind of unfair? He left the band back in 2015, and not on great terms. Niall continued to be friends with Liam, publicly up until what? 2019? 2020? Liam hadn't talked of Zayn favourably in that Logan Paul interview, and damn right he's outspoken but he didn't say a word against him in public? (Not even for him, admittedly.) Zayn didn't make it sound like he didn't have any differences of opinion, what he wrote of in his post was of a friendship, imperfect at times but still remarkable enough, even after nine years of insignificant contact, to move him deeply. I am sorry if I am reading too much into Louis and Zayn's posts but that's all the proof I have that Liam was loved and cherished and had friends that probably looked at him with the same compassion and empathy that I will always have for him. They didn't need to be so personal, and I would have understood a short, curt message from both of them, for different reasons. I didn't know how much I needed to read what they had written until after I had read their posts and was sobbing uncontrollably.
As for the statements, maybe it is better they posted something rather than nothing at all. Maybe they did feel pressured. Maybe they will look back on that time and their feelings will change, yes, none of that's for sure. Personally, I don't think pulling the focus away from Liam was their priority when they posted. Louis and Zayn honoured a friend. Niall and Harry spoke about a colleague. I also think, in my personal opinion, the guest list shouldn't have included a lot of people who were present that day. Including Niall and Harry. I don't think they cared to know him well enough to attend. I mean if you feel weird being offered condolences for someone, knowing you didn't know them well enough to be considered a friend, then you probably shouldn't be attending their funeral? But then again, I know nothing and am no one to them and my opinion means nothing but that's how I feel about them personally.
I am sorry if I sound too harsh, or mean. Forgive me. I cannot find it in myself to be magnanimous. Not anymore. You are kind and generous towards all of them and I appreciate that, but I cannot join you.

How did the Boyd boys and blackguard lose their virginity?
CW for referenced dub-con sex, non con sex, and CSA, read with caution!
Steve Murphy: It was with his high school girlfriend. He mostly got together with her because they were friendly classmates and his friends insisted he had a crush (the comphet is strong in this one!). He liked her well enough, and went through all the bases dutifully because they were the Things To Do, but he broke up with her shortly after they had sex for the first time. It was totally consensual and pleasant enough in the moment, but afterwards he just felt so weird in a way he couldn’t wrap his head around, and that easy companionship he’d always felt with her before went away. Sex with women got easier after that first time, but I do HC that he likes and trusts Connie a lot more when they aren’t fucking (platonic sibling roleplay ftw!).
Donald Pierce: @abusivelittlebunny utterly evisercated me and my friend with their devastating HC about Pierce’s stepdad being sexually abusive. My own HC (originally based on theirs, but possibly a little different) is that Pierce’s stepdad presented himself to Pierce as a confidant, befriending him but also having borderline inappropriate conversations with him. After Pierce’s mom ran off his stepdad started crossing more boundaries, which eventually culminated in him raping Pierce and insisting it was what Pierce had been wanting this whole time. (Pierce had a little bit of a puppy crush on his stepdad when he was first introduced to him, which his stepdad knowingly took advantage of to guilt Pierce into thinking it was his fault.) Pierce was 14 when it started, and even in the present day he’s still half-convinced they were in a relationship, or he wanted it, or his stepdad just couldn’t control himself. (Anyway, check out bun’s art, it’s heartbreaking and gorgeous.)
Cap Hatfield: He’s a virgin! He’s used his hands and mouth before, but I don’t think he’d consider that sex, especially since it’s not for his own pleasure.
Clement Mansell: You know, I was debating this one for the longest, but I think it actually took him a while to feel comfortable enough to have sex. The stuff with his mom - seeing her with her rotating assortment of clients and hearing it through the walls from a way too young age - made him feel pretty uneasy around sex, and this general discomfort took a while to wear off. That being said, when he decided at age 22 that he did indeed wanna fuck, he dove in headfirst! He went from being totally inexperienced (only quick gropes over clothes at clubs!) to having a threesome with a girl and her boyfriend. It was a great night - he was decently twisted, and looking back he’s not positive if he got fucked by her or fucked him first (she wore a strap and the guy bottomed) - which is kind of how he prefers it!
The Corinthian: He’s fucked boys in their dreams since pretty much his first week on the job millennia ago, but the first time he had sex in the waking world was over two thousand years ago with Calliope, when he’d been sent to escort her and Orpheus through Naxos. Calliope wanted to have some fun and reward Corinthian for doing such a good job, and they had some fantastically sadomasochistic sex. After Calliope and Dream divorced, Dream erased all the memories of her and Orpheus from Corinthian’s mind, including this.
Eli Klaber: When he was teenager he went out dressed up in girl’s clothes and makeup semi-regularly (initially the girls in his neighborhood were the ones to dress him up and take him out like this, but even after they married off or left, he kept up the habit). Most of the time he just hung out and got a drink or two, but he did like to flirt on occasion. When he was 17 a man he’d been making eyes at half-dragged him out of the bar to the back alley, flipped him against the bricks, pushed down his stockings, and fucked him. Honestly, the sex was objectively pretty dubious, but Klaber had a great time. He’s still not sure what the guy knew or didn’t about him.
Danny Maguire: When he was 16, him, his friend, and his friend’s slightly older girlfriend (she was 19) were hanging out in his basement and drinking together. His friend got sick and went to bed, but at her insistence he stayed downstairs drinking with her. Things got a little blurry and then next thing he remembers Katerina was on his lap getting his zipper open. Him and his friend had a falling out a year later, and he’ll sometimes brag about how he lost his virginity to his BFF’s girl, but he also clams up something bad whenever anyone asks him for details, and he felt so gross about it the next day (he still kind of does, although he tries not to think about it as anything other than a funny and cool story).
Ty Shaw: He started being sexually active when he was 15, but he didn’t have PiV sex until he was 19. He’s not really sure why, but he wonders if subconsciously it was his nervousness over having sex that could get someone pregnant, considering his mom’s track record of unplanned pregnancies. He lost his virginity to a lovely girl named Mia who was in town visiting relatives; they hooked up fairly consistently for a few weeks, and had sex that was pretty fun on his side and… okay on hers. (She’s massively submissive and masochistic, but at that point hadn’t quite figured out exactly what she liked or how to ask for it, although the last time they fucked he spanked her until she cried and then switched between fucking her ass and her pussy. She came three times… and also got a monster UTI that almost sent her to the hospital.)
Quinn McKenna: He lost his virginity in a way that’s almost beat by beat how Steve did, except Quinn’s actually into women, and ended up having a pretty decent time. Not like, top tier - frankly, him and Soo-Yeon were better as friends, but it was a nice memory and they were very cute at prom together.

chapter 4: day off
The late spring air began to cool as the sun set, a light breeze kissing your skin. Summer was approaching. It was your favorite time of the year, and you usually couldn’t contain your excitement: longer days, vacation trips, and even something as simple as getting ice cream at the convenience store with your friends. You guys would hang out at the park nearby, sitting at the benches—laughing, talking. This summer was supposed to be special—your last summer break together with your junior high class. It was the last year before the start of all your high school days.
As the dusk settled in, you took that seat at the same park bench next to your best friend. Like you guys always did. But this time you were not laughing.
“You’re moving away?” You whispered almost to yourself, your eyes focused on the unwrapped ice cream cone in front of you.
You could feel Jongho’s gaze, but you were suddenly afraid to meet it. For the first time in your life, you were afraid to look at him. You didn’t want the news to be real.
“Yeah,” He said, turning to look at his own ice cream cone as well.
“In the middle of the school year?” You ask. It’s pointless; he’s already explained it, but you still wanted to try. He only nodded in response.
“Well… when are you gonna come back?” You murmur.
Jongho sighed heavily. “I don’t know if I will, or… I don’t know.”
Jongho was moving away with his family back to his father’s hometown. He was going to transfer to another school, and you and him were not going to finish high school together like you guys said you would.
You felt selfish for wanting to say he betrayed you. It’s not his fault. It’s for family, and family is important. You knew that. But it felt like your heart sank to the bottom of the floor after hearing the news. You grew up together. Jongho was your next door neighbor. He was your first best friend. And even your first crush.
“I can’t believe this…” You say softly.
“It’s at the end of the summer though, y/n,” He tries to comfort you. “We can still hang out like usual.”
“But still!” You exclaim, finally turning to him. You feel your eyes well with tears, and poor Jongho has this worried expression on his face. “What am I gonna do when you leave?”
Jongho then pulls you into a hug, and that tugs at your heart strings. You let yourself cry into his shoulder.
“I’ll still be your best friend even when I’m gone, okay?” He whispers, his voice shaky. You wonder if you crying is causing him to feel bad. Or that maybe he wants to cry too. It’s not like you’ll be the only one who will be missing him. He’ll miss you too.
“Promise?” You finally pull away.
“I promise.” Jongho smiles gently, and your heart flutters once more.
present day
“Someone take that pitcher away from him,” You hear Yeosang mutter to your left. “One glass of beer and he’s already gone.”
You chuckle and glance over at the other end of the table where San is talking a bit too loudly with other coworkers. They’re all smiles and laughs.
It was a different Friday night—a company dinner. This meant free food and free drinks. You down the last of the golden liquid in your glass.
You don’t usually drink often, so you decided to take this opportunity to let loose. It’s been a long week. Just like any other week, you suppose. But you felt that you haven’t had a real chance to just relax and have fun ever since you moved. It’s been nonstop stress and work. So why not? And if it has to be at the work dinner, then so be it. You were at least with your friends.
“Hey! Pass the pitcher over here too, don’t be selfish!” You project from your end of the table. San’s blushed out face is all smiles when he walks over with the pitcher of beer.
“Another drink already y/n?” San teases as he pours more into your glass. He turns to Yeosang. “And you?”
Yeosang shakes his head. “I think I’ll stop for now.” You take a small sip at first, then take deep gulps, the bitter taste burning your throat.
“Guys, just imagine this, but even better during my birthday party!” San says happily, then scurries off to the karaoke stage where your other coworkers have gathered and started singing. The music rings loudly in your ears.
Yeosang waves him off. “He keeps bringing that up. At this point I’m not gonna show up.”
You laugh in response. “He really is the life of the party.”
“And what about you?” Yeosang raises an eyebrow at you and glances at the already half drunken glass of beer. “You usually don’t drink this much at the company dinners.”
“Oh you know,” You chuckle sheepishly, slightly embarrassed at Yeosang’s observations. If there was someone that had the potential to become a detective, you’d swear it’d be him. “Just-” ”Let me guess,” He interjects. “Work. Life. Your roommate. Hectic isn’t it?” Bingo.
“You’re right,” You nod and finish the rest of your drink. “Just for tonight.”
“It’s okay, I’m not judging. Just worried, you know?” He says. You smile at his thoughtfulness and concern.
“Yeah,” You say, starting to feel a little buzzed. “I’m sorry I keep bringing him up. I… I feel like it’s all I talk about these days.. I swear I’m still interesting!” He laughs. “Don’t be sorry. I know roommates can be complicated. And maybe…he’s actually good guy or something.” Yeosang shrugs then takes a bite of some meat and rice.
“Maybe,” You say to yourself before you follow suit and take a bite of your food. Yeosang reaches for an unopened soju bottle sitting across from you, opens it, and proceeds to pour some into two shot glasses. “Really?”
Yeosang smiles and nods. You both raise your glasses. “Yup. To good guys! Cheers!”
You and Yeosang carry on your conversation amidst the loud conversation and music playing the background. You also chatted with some of your other coworkers who also joined in on your side of the table. This is kind of fun, actually. You decided you didn’t need to overthink anything in this moment.
After lots more rounds of meat and rice, alongside more beer and soju, you were stuffed. And you were definitely feeling the full effects of the alcohol. You did it. You reached your goal. As the night progressed, more people gave toasts and slurred speeches, and then it was finally time to go home.
It was nearly one in the morning, but the flashing lights on the street indicated that people were still out and about. The places closed late here, you noticed. San was completely wasted—slumped over Yeosang’s shoulders, trying his best to prop him up with his much smaller frame. The smaller one carrying the bigger one—it was a sight that made you giggle. After loudly expressing each other’s concern, Yeosang assured you they were going to be fine going home and that he’s done this a bunch of times. You also assured him that you’d be able to get home after his offer of sharing a cab. This part of the city was generally safe. And you, too, have done this before.
“Are you sure y/n?” Yeosang pressed. “It’s getting late.”
“It’s okay!” You urged. “It’s totally okay, I’m closer than you guys. He needs to get home asap.” You poked San’s shoulder, and Yeosang chuckled.
“Okay fine, but let me know when you get home!” Yeosang is already dragging San into a cab they managed to hail.
“You too!” You called out happily.
But then again, it’s been a long time since you’ve felt like this.
Feeling drunk felt so freeing, vulnerable, and scary at the same time. Your head was pounding, and your eyes were desperate to close. You were tired, but still so full of energy. You were aware of everything still, just…lighter. And now you were standing out alone, drunk in the night’s cold. Of course, taxis were to come and go, so you just stood at the edge of the sidewalk waiting for one, with your arms wrapped around yourself. Everything felt so heavy, and you didn’t want to move. You swear you could feel your heart thumping violently against your chest. Where the hell are those taxis?
“y/n?” You hear a soft voice behind you. Your first instinct of fear runs through you and you turn around quickly. A couple of feet away, stands someone you swear you’ve met before.
Someone…
“y/n,” He breathes. “It is really you.”
You try your best to concentrate, but your drunken mind is betraying you. You want to go home suddenly.
“Hi…” You whisper out. It was him…
Choi Jongho.
Was it really?
Your old friend.
Is this a dream? What is he doing here? What’s happening? Am I this drunk? Is this really him? What’s he doing here?
Your head was spinning with all these questions, and it didn’t help that you were drunk. You didn’t know what to do—what to feel.
He approached you gingerly, and you unconsciously recoiled.
“I.. I..” I want to go home.
“Are you going home? Let’s get you a taxi.” Jongho says.
“What are you doing here?” You blurt out. You wanted to believe that this was just an illusion. How could he possibly be here right now? And to face you so upfront like this? After everything….
“It’s a long story,” He sighs locking eyes with you, and smiles weakly. “Are you okay?” His face turns into an expression of genuine concern.
You can feel them.
Tears.
They’re coming, and you feel that burning sensation building up in your throat whenever you start crying. But you suppress it and swallow hard.
You hear a few cars pass by, and you glance back to the street. Finally. You quickly gesture for it.
The taxi slowly approaches the edge of the sidewalk where you stand, and you mentally thank the driver for coming at such a perfect time. You wanted to go home. You needed to go home. Away from this.
“I have to go.” You whisper, unsure if he’d heard you or not. You swiftly step into the vehicle, give your address to the driver, and catch one last glance at Jongho’s concerned expression before driving away.
This isn’t real. He’s not actually here. I’m drunk.
I’m drunk.
The ride back home was quick, and you used your remaining energy to thank and pay the driver. Getting up into the elevator required some deep breaths, as you were getting dizzier and dizzier—and all the more nauseous. Great.
“Too…drunk…” You mumble to yourself as you stumble into your apartment. You instinctively drop your belongings onto the floor and quickly make your way to the bathroom. You felt horrible. Maybe this was why you haven’t drank in so long…
That nauseousness caught up to you once you finally reached it, where you crouched and hunched over the toilet bowl, letting it all out. I drank way too much.
Now sitting on the floor, you leaned back against the bathtub to catch your breath. In that brief moment of stillness, your mind tugged at you to move. You were suddenly hyper aware of your physicality and environment. You knew you had makeup to remove, teeth to brush, and pajamas to get into. You had to stand up and get into your bed. You needed to clean yourself up. And your brain managed to give you a lovely reminder that you didn’t live alone. Just the thought of Mingi seeing this entire mess made you fearful. But your body betrayed you. You couldn’t bring yourself to move.
Your head was still pounding so you just shut your eyes and decided to give yourself a few moments. 5 minutes. In 5 minutes, I’ll get up.
The image of seeing Jongho tonight popped into your mind once more. His voice rang in your ears.
Y/n, it is really you.
It’s a long story. Are you okay?
He looked the same, but different. More mature. Stronger. Still just as handsome…
Was that actually real? Maybe. Probably. You didn’t know. And maybe you didn’t want to know.
Suddenly, he felt so far away again.
I’m drunk. I’m drunk. I’m drunk…
—
You gently blink your eyes open to the sunlight streaming in from the windows. Instinctively, you yawn as well. Oh god. For a moment, you simply lay there as you let your thoughts slowly come over you like a wave. What time was it?
Thank goodness you had the day off. Anyhow, you probably would’ve been extremely late. But you were also glad you got the chance to sleep in, as it was quite the night last night. You gingerly sit up on your bed, shedding off the warmth of your duvet.
You feel a slight headache rush to your head again. Maybe I’ll take it easy next time, you think to yourself. It had been awhile since you drank that much after all. You then briefly ponder how San even does it, and wonder how he handles his hangovers. Your thoughts are interrupted by your grumbling stomach.
You notice your phone at the edge of your bed and grab it.
12:08pm **
You ignore all the text notifications from San and Yeosang for now, and decided to order takeout. You were too lazy to make anything in the state you were in—plus fried chicken sounded perfect right now. After putting in your order, you notice that you’re still in your clothes from last night.
Huh.
You could’ve sworn you’d changed and gotten into bed fine, but you could hardly remember. You did remember throwing up like crazy, however. You jumped out of bed and took a look in the mirror—your makeup was still on and your hair looked dangerously disheveled. This calls for a long shower.
After gathering your things and a fresh pair of pajamas, you crack open your bedroom door and peek outside around the apartment. Mingi cannot see me like this, was the first thought you had. The thought of him seeing you like a mess after ordering him around about being clean felt contradictory somehow. But more importantly, you were embarrassed. It’s not like he’d care, probably… But…Where was he anyway? Was he out?
The silence surrounding the apartment told you that the coast was clear, so you quietly rushed into the bathroom and proceeded to take your hot, much-needed, shower.
When you were finally finished, you headed back to your room and freshened up your bedding. You felt so much better already. Five minutes pass when your phone dings, notifying that your order is officially delivered. Excited and absolutely starved, you head for the front door excitedly when you suddenly stop in your tracks to see Mingi in standing by the door. He was holding the door open and grabbing your takeout off the floor. Your stomach grumbled once again.
“That’s mine,” You say. He turns around in response, his face unamused. Guess he was home after all…
He’s wearing his usual loungewear, and his glasses are framed above his head, pushing his hair back.
“No, it’s mine,” Mingi replied bluntly. “You ordered fried chicken?”
“Yes!” You exclaim, approaching him. You attempt to examine the bag.
“Well my name’s on it,” He argues. Mingi tugs the receipt off the bag and holds it up to your face. “See?”
“But the app just told me it was just delivered right now,” You hold up your phone to his face for proof. “Maybe they put both of the orders in there? Can I see?” You lean in to look inside the bag, but Mingi moves the bag away from you. Your sudden closeness made you more aware of your height difference all of a sudden. You take a step back.
“What did you order?” He glances inside the bag, then back at you.
“A six piece, soy garlic. With a side of rice,” You sigh. “And you?”
He narrowed his eyes. “Same… except it was a ten piece for me.” Mingi looks into the bag again, then proceeds to walk towards the kitchen in silence, ignoring you.
“What?!” You follow him into the kitchen.
“Why do they do that?” Mingi takes out both orders from the bag and places them on the dining table. “Is it easier for them to put two orders in one bag even though they’re different?”
“I think it’s because we live in the same place, maybe they thought it was meant to be ordered together…” You respond, staring at the food on the table. “And our orders aren’t even that different.”
“Whatever,” Mingi takes a seat and starts eating. You awkwardly stand there for a moment, unsure of what to do. *Uh…*You guys don’t ever eat at the dining table together. Does he expect you to leave? You suppose you could. You could take your food into your room for privacy, but then again it would just make the room smell like fried chicken…
“Are you not going to eat?” He asks, interrupting your thoughts. Your eyes widen at his bluntness, and you take your seat across from him. You don’t argue since you really were starving.
“I will,” You say and proceed. It was delicious, greasy, and filling—the perfect hangover cure. You guys eat in silence for a while. Luckily, you both distracted yourselves with your phones, so there was no space for small talk, thankfully. You wouldn’t be able to stand it. And he didn’t seem to want to talk to you anyways. What is there to even say honestly, you thought. This is how it should be.
You were in the middle of responding to Yeosang’s texts when you hear him place his phone back on the table.
“You’re welcome, by the way.” He says.
You look up, slightly confused. For letting you sit with him at lunch? For giving you your food? “For what?”
The corners of his lips tug up slightly, but then his expression returns to its neutral, indifferent state. “I think I went up to use the bathroom around two in the morning. Nearly had a heart attack seeing you on the floor. I didn’t know you went all out when you drink..”
Your eyes widen. Oh no…
“Wait, you…” Your words falter as your brain finally connects the dots. It was no wonder you were still in your same clothes and makeup. You usually had the strength to complete those tasks no matter how drunk you were—but I guess you hadn’t been that drunk. The memories of last night seem to gather once more, and you feel your face heat up.
“Yes,” Mingi says after swallowing a mouthful. He scans your face, and his eyes show a slight hint of amusement. “You wouldn’t budge, no matter how long or hard I shook you. I had to flush that disgusting toilet bowl, and carried you to your room.”
“Oh god,” You throw your face in your hands. “Oh my god. That is so embarrassing-”
“It’s fine, I know it was a Friday night just-” Mingi glances back down to his food. “Don’t do that next time.”
“That won’t happen again. I can usually handle myself. I don’t know- I guess last night was too much, I was-” You scramble to find the words, but decided not to put forth any excuses. You sigh heavily. “Thanks..”
Mingi simply nods and finishes up his food. After checking his phone one more time, he stands up.
“Well, now I think you owe me y/n,” He says and slides over his dirty dishes to me. “My dishes, for the next two weeks?”
“Huh?!” You scoff with your mouth half full of chicken. What the hell? You decided to challenge him with his own words. “What happened to keeping to ourselves and doing our own chores?” You did NOT want to involve yourself with another roommate related fiasco, yet here you were. It was as if these conflicts were inevitable, and you two kept clashing at the most random of times.
“Oh I know, but you didn’t. Drunk on the bathroom floor definitely crossed that line,” Mingi says matter-of-factly. It was true. You shivered at the reminder that he carried you into your room. What did he even think of you? You immediately pushed that thought away. **“But anyway… as roommates. I helped you, and now you have to help me. Right?”
Roommates.
“Fine, is that how it’s going to work now?” You sigh in defeat. “Two weeks, and that’s it.”
“Deal.” Mingi smiles a little, then leaves the kitchen.
What just happened?

Gunman - Gurren Lagann
Armoured Core: The best combination of Gundam OP flying mechas, and ground-pounder real robots. High level customization that is more than just get better version of same weapon.
Arsenal: The best super robot game, short of ZOE. This one deals with the vast space and competing personalities better. The game has a high level of customization, while still playing like a super-robot game.
Drag-Ride: The advantages of a magic mecha with the disadvantage you don't have armour. This only makes sense in Undefeated Bahamut, because that's the way magic technology works, but this would make a lot of sense of Danny Phantom, as he couldn't just hide behind the armour. They also can be carried around as a magic sword.
Gundam: The original mecha. They made a Starship Troopers show, and then made their own in Gundam. For those that don't know, the ordinary mechs in Gundam are just called Mobile Suits. Gundams can fly in space, on land, and sky, and come in a wide variety of suits. Such high variety that Gundam focuses more on Gundam Escalation than they do on story or character development. They are OP, but not god-like power, and despite their size, their cockpits are not big enough for flight deck shenanigans.
Guardian: Knights of Sidonia did a great job of making their mecha realistic and powerful. They are the most realistic space mecha. They have weapons that could be super-charged with ghost power, and flight decks large enough for flight deck shenanigans. Not even ZOE has these, which resorts to having the girl sitting in the guy's lap, or the obvious sex positions from Darling in the Franxx's flower robots. No insult to either ZOE of Darling in the Franxx, both of incredible series.
Knight / Titan - 40k: Titans have a psychic presence, almost like a Id, that controls it. Also, they are built like cathedrals, and - literally - work off the rule of cool, (Machine Spirits are more cooperative if you make them look cool). Titans are way too big for Danny Phantom. Knights are a much better size.
Knight - Knight's & Magic: Basically less Gundam than Gundam, with a focus more on magic. You use magic wands instead of firearms. The end is a gundam, but the mid-point feels a lot more real.
Landmate: As small as you can get while still being a mecha, if not closer to powered armour. They even have real arms and control arms, (you put your arms in the control ones, and it manipulates the big arms).
Paladin: RWBY made them look cool, without actually any good details or models. But they are also the perfect size to fit in with any situation. It is small enough to get into most battles while being large enough to have room in the cockpit.
Para-Mail: Gundam-like robot mode, with a flying motorcycle mode.
Wanzer: Basically Walking Tank in German, Wanzers are the most tank-like real robots of any setting while still being mecha and not spider-tanks.
(generic): There are many, many franchises that have mecha that looks Human, carries weapons, with no unique design aspects or attributes. I am not saying they are bad, just as many of them operate extremely realistically, just that they don't distinguish themselves from each other, other than the fact they are from different franchises. Labours in Patlabour, Mobile Suits in Gundam, Arm Slaves in Full Metal Panics, AGWS in Xenosaga, (other than the fact you can keep them in your pocket), MT's from Armoured Core, etc.
Danny Phantom as a Mecha Anime
Danny Fenton is snooping around a military base, because - teenage boy.
Gets in a fight with a ghost of a female soldier in a flight suit.
Lands in the cockpit of a mecha. Snaps back to Human.
Goes Ghost. Mecha goes with him.
Later revealed the GIW, (with the help of Vlad Masters), stole a bunch of tech from the Fentons.
First arc has him trying to use the mech on his own. It's powered from him, and this really drains him.
Remember the tech to use Ghosts as a perpetual power source? It's in the mech. The female soldier agrees to be the power source.
Female soldier was the pilot of the mecha because she was a psychic medium.
Post Reign Storm, so it fits into canon.

george rexstrew deserves awards for many things but i have to say. edwin’s bloodcurdling scream as niko gets killed deserves a whole award unto itself. like. that scream did not feel at all like a tv show scream. to a somewhat jarring degree. and i can’t express how much I respect that
#he has a number of very convincing screams and suffering noises which I imagine was an important prerequisite for the role#but this one is just especially chilling and again. jarring. not saying that the other actors are bad or anything but no one even comes#close to competing with george and its stark in moments like this#another screaming moment that I thought he did really well in particular is far easier to gloss over and that’s#when he and charles are escaping hell and he almost gets dragged down into lust#when he’s screaming out for charles he borderline SCREECHES#throughout that arc in general it’s just incredible but yeah#I think part of what makes it so convincing is that he isn’t afraid to be high pitched and genuinely Scream rather than yell#like. he is clearly immune to being put off by ‘you scream like a girl’ rhetoric#I think a lot of male actors avoid screaming and screeching like that for that internalized reason when. if you wanna be as realistic as#possible. a scream is high pitched. if you’re scared for your fucking life it’s just involuntary#I can also see it being uncommon due to difficulties getting that sound adequately recorded but yeah anyway you get my point#tldr: george rexstrew is great at disturbingly realistic screaming and I applaud him for that#I really hope he didn’t have to retake that part too many times..#his poor throat……….#george rexstrew#edwin#edwin payne#dead boy detectives#dead boy detectives spoilers
