as a chinese person yall need to stop blaming the ccp for everything (read: hoyo is capable of making colorist design decisions and not everything is a result of censorship pls)
#the govt is v racist while also doing like a lot of rlly questionable economic exploits but also: as a company hoyo can suck#please read what china actually censors and what historical nihilism covers#also: sumeru proves that a) they can make brown people b) the '''race'' dynamics were literally crucial to the plot#it was *intentional* that the rainforest region designs were pale and the desert designs were (a rather laughable) tanned because it added#to the colorism plot they tried weaving into the academic and knowledge inequality plot#so i think it's also gonna be intentional that the natlan designs are pale like they're not fucking fools#open at will: hater behavior#also: you fail to consider that mandatory (for cn server) skins for old 1.x characters got released bc they decided they were too revealing#however neither kaeya nor xinyan's skintones got changed; sumeru released as normal#literally based on what's been changed: the only thing hoyo seems to be out of line with right now is excessive cleavage on some fem chars#i dont think the skin tone censorship is the real issue. maybe the company is just. a product of the colorism and biases#in china/asia as a whole#it's not 'oh ccp censored them' maybe their skin tones are just colorist#this is technically a ''''subtweet'''' as they say but it's also: bro ccp is not the end all be all bogeyman#also idc if you are from the cultures that genshin tries repping in game but gets skin tone godawfully wrong idc you have the right to ask#for more from them and call them out for colorism! it's a societal thing yeah but they can also do so much better#edit: another thing about this is like: yall are literally infantalizing chinese ppl like do u think cn people can't be racist of tehir own#free will?? the government is the only thing forcing them to be racist?? get a grip. not everything is because of the ccp oh my fucking god

Probably a hot take but Paolini kinda effed up with that world map
Aside from people from Surda and Hadarac, most people of Alagaësia are basically Knockoff Europeans and many are described as pale-skinned. And as we know, pale skin is something that evolved under pressure of cold European climate. And Alagaësia very much does have that cold, sort of European climate around the Palancar Valley and along The Spine.
But the problem is that humans aren't native to Alagaësia! So where do they come from!

when ppl still refer to asian as a race🥴i don’t like bringing up discourse but i’m genuinely annoyed rn … specifically in the kpop community ( as far as i’ve seen) people only ever use the word asian to refer to east asians and it’s like … anyone who isn’t east asian needs to clarify that they’re south or south east or west asian when they say they’re asian but like … why bc we’re all asian it’s like🤣 tired of people ignoring the existence of whole countries in asia

#im hiding this in the tags bc im scared of getting flamed on the Reading Comprehension website but#as someone who does asian studies i really want to caution people from interpreting 4b in a western feminist lense and making assumptions#bc different parts of asia esp almost non-english speaking parts of asia have different ways of thinking about/describing their feminism#like how the rb on this post mentioned that this mvmnt doesn't have a leader#its autonomous (which u prob wouldn't see in a lot of western feminist movements)#also ALL OF EAST ASIA is becoming pro-natalist bc their birth rates are declining#japan and china specifically#nora fisher onar is a scholar who wrote a book abt the declining birth rate in china and the womens response to it#called leftover women#so the 4b mvmt is specific to korea but i can promise u its not just korea similar shit is happenined in china and japan#and its def misogyny and self-interest driving the gov to insist women stay at home (the same is going for japan and china rn)#and its also capitalism#gov wants more babies so there r more workers#but also to combat population decline#more youth means east asia has elder care for when its current work force gets old#im just upset that ppl w no context for asia or global issues are getting their hands on this post and going “go man haters go!!” bc there#is So Much more going on#the 4b mvmt is just the tip of the iceberg#the governments of east asia pushing are pro natalist policies most likely not ACTUALLY bc they think women belong at home#the treatment of women in east asias workforce has fluctuated thats a whole nother beast. like in china during ww2 they WANTED women workin#but they're pushing pro natalism now bc they want babies for their population#also plz take any news abt east asia w a grain of salt if ur a (monolingual) western english speaker bc#things inevitably get mistranslated thru language#i just have so many thoughts and my first one is good god western femcels/terfs/etc. do NOT get your hands on this post#one of the tags on a rb of this post went “go korean lesbians go” like#maybe don't trivialize the struggles of these women also lgbt issues in east asia are a totally separate issue#i also just feel like westerners attached themselves to what they think the 4b mvmt is and ran with it#tldr is like this prev reblog said the 4b mvnt isn't a “we hate men#girlpower” movement its a very specific protest against the gov#ALSO the bit abt how the only sure way to avoid pregnancy was by avoiding men

Something that I fear will get lost in all this that I cannot in good conscience let people ignore is that James Somerton is also just incredibly racist?
Between his willingness to rip off the works of asian writers, his total *unwillingness* to fact-check any of his own claims about laws and customs in asian countries (specifically China, I'll note), his enthusiastic citing of information from right-wing cracks who openly conspiracy theorize about China, and his gleeful theory crafting of whole new conspiracy bullshit about China in his attempt to frame all media discussions through his overly clouded lens, I think it's fair to say James Somerton is just racist. There's no sugarcoating it just because he doesn't espouse direct hate or use slurs. The passive liberal brand racism is still racism. Like, someone doesn't invent fake claims about Chinese box office coverups and help spread myths about censorship laws in Japanese television code out of nowhere. These are not the ideas of a man who has healthy or well adjusted views about Asia, these are pure and simple orientalism.

What queer Asian sci fi authors would you recommend?
Yeah, to put my money where my mouth is, here are some queer SFF writers from Asia and the Asian Diaspora in the Anglosphere that I really like and highly recommend:
Nghi Vo: probably doesn’t need an endorsement from me, hah, her The Empress of Salt and Fortune is one of the most perfect novellas I’ve ever read and well deserved its Hugo win. The whole Singing Hills cycle is great. It’s a fantasy world strongly inspired by Imperial China and Vietnam, and does clever things with fantasy, folklore, storytelling, and memory. Her novels are standalone historical fantasy set in 1920s-America-with-magic and are very much about Asian immigrant/diaspora experiences in the early 20th century US. With Magic.
Yoon Ha Lee: I love his Machineries of Empire. Would love to finish that trilogy someday. But seriously it’s creative, intense military sci-fi in a magic-science space empire and is very interested in what it takes to uphold such a system.
Simon Jimenez: The Vanished Birds is sooo heartbreakingly good and I need to read A Spear Cuts Through Water soon.
Isabel J. Kim: Short story writer. Runs the gamut of sci-fi, fantasy, horror, and the weird stuff in between. Creative and vivid in really compelling ways. Her first novel is in the works and I am SUPER interested. She does funky and creative things with perspective and structure in her stories. Has several stories now that are about turning popular tropes or other iconic stories around like they’re in a kaleidoscope, but her first published story “Homecoming Is Just Another Word for the Sublimation of the Self” is probably still the most affecting to me.
Michelle Kan: Has a trilogy of novelettes called Tales of the Thread, self-described as “aromantic Chinese fairytales” that take a deliberately aro approach to fairytale retellings and fairytale style fantasy. I recommend them. (Also has a superhero novel I haven’t read.)
———
Haven’t read yet but they are on my TBR:
Aliette de Bodard: Her Xuya universe novellas, and the relationships between humans and AIs and spaceships, sound super up my alley.
Kai Cheng Thom: Author of Fierce Femmes and Notorious Liars: A Dangerous Trans Girl’s Confabulous Memoir is a less traditionally sff entry but is a fabulist/surrealist take on the Trans Memoir… which I feel like I have to be in the right space for, but I do want to read it.
———
Also he’s not out as queer or anything but I can’t not recommend Ted Chiang because he writes some of the best short stories In The World and has THE most interesting and unique and compelling ideas.
———
There are also so many more authors out there I don’t know and haven’t read! But! Someday!!

There was that post going around (that I'm too lazy to find) about the mother who gave her son a shovel to go dig and his whole mood improved.
In a no capes AU that would 100% be Bruce with Dick.
Bruce, intellectually, knew that children were high energy. He understood that adopting Dick meant a great number of life changes and responsibilities. He didn't expect the tornado of energy that was Dick.
See, Dick, being a circus kid, was used to always moving, doing having a task. If he wasn't performing he was practicing. If he wasn't practicing he was helping around the circus. Even on the road there were uniforms and nets to mend and animals to tend to and-- well, Wayne manner is all very calm, isn't it? And poor Dick is hurting and angry and needs to do something.
The gym Bruce installs help, but that isn't enough-- that isn't a task.
One day, in a fit of exhaustion and much needed rest, Bruce goes out to the shed attached to the garage, grabs a shovel, and hands it to Dick.
"Alfred is planing to plant a vegetable garden, why don't you help him dig the plots."
And Dick is off like lightning.
Alfred raise one far too judgemental eyebrow at Bruce. "Am I now, Master Bruce?"
"Hn."
They quickly learn that they have to tell Dick very clearly where to dig and how deep or they'll have to get a ladder and pull him out of a hole halfway to the cave system under Wayne manner.
(Bruce has nightmares that night about Dick being lost to the caves.)
And so the manor gains a garden, Dick learns how, a bit, to be a child outside of the circus, and Bruce actually gets to do some work. It's several months later when Alfred comes to Bruce.
"While I understand that the garden has been useful.... enrichment for Master Richard, I do think that perhaps you should inform him to stop digging."
"Wonderful timing, Alfred. I'm about to be in China for a month. I'm sure that I could extend the trip to two, maybe three months if I tack on some service work in South East Asia and visits to old friends."
"...perhaps an orchard wouldn't be remiss."

A POWERFUL MEDITATION TECHNIQUE TO ENTER
THE VOID STATE INSTANTLY
Radiant One, this experience may dawn between two breaths
After breath comes in – that is, down – and just before turning out – that is, going up – The Beneficence. Be aware between these two points, and the happening. When your breath comes in, observe. For a single moment, there is no breathing – before it turns up, before it turns outward. One breath comes in; then there is a certain point and breathing stops. Then the breathing goes out. When the breath goes out, then again for a single moment, breathing stops. Then breathing comes in.
Before the breath is turning in or turning out, there is a moment when you are not breathing. In that moment the happening is possible, because when you are not breathing you are not in the world. Understand this: when you are not breathing you are dead; you ARE still, but dead. But the moment is of such a short duration that you never observe it.
Each outgoing breath is a death and each new breath is a rebirth. Breath coming in is rebirth; breath going out is death. The outgoing breath is synonymous with death; the incoming breath is synonymous with life. So with each breath you are dying and being reborn. The gap between the two is of a very short duration, but keen, sincere observation and attention will make you feel the gap. If you can feel the gap, Then nothing else is needed. You are blessed, you have known; the thing has happened.
Try it. Suddenly you will get the point – and you can get it; it is already there. Nothing is to be added to you or to your structure, it is already there. Everything is already there except a certain awareness.
SO HOW TO DO THIS ?
First, become aware of the breath coming in. Watch it. Forget everything, just watch breath coming in – the very passage.
When the breath touches your nostrils, feel it there. Then let the breath move in. Move with the breath fully consciously. When you are going down, down, down with the breath, do not miss the breath. Do not go ahead and do not follow behind, just go with it. Remember this: do not go ahead, do not follow it like a shadow; be simultaneous with it.
Breath and consciousness should become one. The breath goes in – you go in. Only then will it be possible to get the point which is between two breaths.
Be aware. When the breath is going in move with it, and when the breath is going out move with it. Do simply this: going in, going out, with the breath.
You will suddenly become aware that there is no breath, and the moment will come when you will feel that the breath is neither going out nor coming in. The breath has stopped completely. In that stopping, The Beneficence.
This one technique is enough for millions. The whole of Asia tried and lived with this technique for centuries. Tibet, China, Japan, Burma, Thailand, Ceylon – the whole of Asia except India has tried this technique. Only one technique and thousands and thousands have attained enlightenment through it.
-- From The Book of Secrets
NOW , HOW YOU CAN USE THIS TO ENTER THE VOID :
Sit or Lay down in a comfortable position
Now start Focusing on your breath Be aware. When the breath is going in move with it, and when the breath is going out move with it. Do simply this: going in, going out, with the breath.
You will suddenly become aware that there is no breath, and the moment will come when you will feel that the breath is neither going out nor coming in. The breath has stopped completely.
Whilst doing this you will notice that ur body is now completely numb , there r NO intrusive thoughts etc..and this is the time when u gotta affirm for void AND I KID YOU NOT U R GONNA ENTER THE VOID INSTANTLY , mark my words , INSTANTLY !
That's it ! This is the most easiest and yet the most powerful technique u can use to enter the void I SWEAR !! ♡

Hello! This is a message to the anon who has been sending very haphazard, messy and increasingly nonsensical hate. They are pretty ew.
Not sure if cringe anon is the same as this one, but if you are, here’s a quick thingy. Sure, I’ve played with your message, adding humour as a lovely way of mockery to you. But there is a line to be drawn, I’m fine with you making snarky comments. I make snarky comments, but I draw the line when you start insulting whole groups of race. And….insulting us with the most generic types of comments.
Tumblr media
Seriously?
That is the most ridiculous pseudo hate ever.
I’ll remind you that the term “asians” include Chinese, Korean, Japanese, Thai, Viet, Malaysian, Singaporean, Filipino, Indonesian, Saudi Arabian, Indian, Bhutanese, Pakistani, Lebanese and so many more groups of people.
You’re gonna have to be the most dumb, blind and ignorant piece of filth if you think all of those groups of people look the same. If you really believe that, you’re bigoted and ill informed.
Also. OF COURSE SOME GROUPS OF PEOPLE WHO HAVE A COMMON ANCESTOR LOOK THE SAME, OH MY GOD THE STUPIDITY!
And if you are part of Asia and you’re gonna whine like “I was just making a joke!” This is not a joke if it hurts people, yes this is a popularised statement but to many people, it is not funny. It is only a joke when EVERYONE is laughing. So shut up about that.
And then here
Tumblr media
….that’s just so wrong.
First of all, I’m ethnically Chinese, which means my great grandparents originally came from china. I was not born on the mainland, nor was my parents, nor was my grandparents. And where I am currently living, consumption of dog meat is illegal. Even in China, the amount of dog meat consumption is drastically decreasing.
That is an old, outdated, stereotypical, insulting way to refer to Chinese people. Not only that!
You also might refer to people from Cambodia, India, Indonesia, Ghana, Laos, Vietnam, Nigeria and Switzerland. Unless you’re saying I’m from all of those countries, your statements makes no fucking sense.
I’ll wrap it up, in the end, I may laugh, joke around, make fun of such comments, but I draw the line when it could potentially hurt bigger groups of people.
My blog is a place to talk to my friends, I’ve made many good ones here, Mireya, Zahrawr, Tanaka, Jeah, Riyana, God, Tamanna, Etc
To all of you, I’m very grateful for getting to meet you.
To this Anonymous person: if you come out and say “oh it’s just a joke” or reveal that you are Asian too, shame on you. Out of all people, you should know how bigoted and disgusting those statements are. If you aren’t asian, even worse. You’re a stupid, ignorant and pathetic piece of shit who thinks it’s okay to send these types of messages. You disgust me.
Moving on, I will not tolerate any more of these types of posts, I will be deleting them on sight. I won’t be turning off anon, since there are lovely anons who like to send nice messages. But I will not be posting anymore of these stupid, idiotic and hateful comments, especially that could potentially hurt a large number of people.
Fuck off, leave all these people alone, leave me alone, this is not a joke, it’s not okay to be spout this bullshit so freely.
Update: I’ve blocked anon ;)))
If this turns out to be anyone I’ve tagged, I will be very very disappointed in you.
