as a chinese person yall need to stop blaming the ccp for everything (read: hoyo is capable of making colorist design decisions and not everything is a result of censorship pls)
#the govt is v racist while also doing like a lot of rlly questionable economic exploits but also: as a company hoyo can suck#please read what china actually censors and what historical nihilism covers#also: sumeru proves that a) they can make brown people b) the '''race'' dynamics were literally crucial to the plot#it was *intentional* that the rainforest region designs were pale and the desert designs were (a rather laughable) tanned because it added#to the colorism plot they tried weaving into the academic and knowledge inequality plot#so i think it's also gonna be intentional that the natlan designs are pale like they're not fucking fools#open at will: hater behavior#also: you fail to consider that mandatory (for cn server) skins for old 1.x characters got released bc they decided they were too revealing#however neither kaeya nor xinyan's skintones got changed; sumeru released as normal#literally based on what's been changed: the only thing hoyo seems to be out of line with right now is excessive cleavage on some fem chars#i dont think the skin tone censorship is the real issue. maybe the company is just. a product of the colorism and biases#in china/asia as a whole#it's not 'oh ccp censored them' maybe their skin tones are just colorist#this is technically a ''''subtweet'''' as they say but it's also: bro ccp is not the end all be all bogeyman#also idc if you are from the cultures that genshin tries repping in game but gets skin tone godawfully wrong idc you have the right to ask#for more from them and call them out for colorism! it's a societal thing yeah but they can also do so much better#edit: another thing about this is like: yall are literally infantalizing chinese ppl like do u think cn people can't be racist of tehir own#free will?? the government is the only thing forcing them to be racist?? get a grip. not everything is because of the ccp oh my fucking god

Probably a hot take but Paolini kinda effed up with that world map
Aside from people from Surda and Hadarac, most people of Alagaësia are basically Knockoff Europeans and many are described as pale-skinned. And as we know, pale skin is something that evolved under pressure of cold European climate. And Alagaësia very much does have that cold, sort of European climate around the Palancar Valley and along The Spine.
But the problem is that humans aren't native to Alagaësia! So where do they come from!
What the hell!
-Mist
#summa summarum none of the humans in the inheritance cycle should be white#it make no cents luv#grabbing paolini by the throat and shaking him like a ragdoll#this is a weird thing to rant about i know but i need my worldbuilding to make sense and this does not!!#everything else works sort of perfectly i even have a map with latitude and longitude lines to compare the climate of alagaesia to irl area#(alagaesia corresponds almost 1:1 to east asia. it's a near perfect mirror image. Teirm could be comparable to Vladivostok#Vroengard is p much if Kamchatka was an island. the Spine is just the Sikhote-Alin mountain range. Hadarac is the Gobi desert#the Beors are Himalayas and Surda is Central/East China)#but this?? no sense at all!#honestly with how often elves are described as notably fair in the books i would just go with all humans being dark-skinned#but that's against canon descriptions of a whole bunch of characters#also bad connotations with pale-skinned elves being infinitely more advanced than humans and. yknow. bad bad theory#paolini what have you done#speculations#rants

I don’t think I have petty hated something as much as everyone saying USAmerican. I want to lobotomize everyone who uses that fucking phrase and peaceably euthanize whatever useless fecal homunculus came up with that stupid goddamn by putting a potato gun full of anthrax in their mouth and pulling the trigger.
#Theeeeeeeres only one country that has Americans but there’s two continents full of people who are North or South American#but none of those people are any other kind of American except for the Americans#it’s not North American South American USAmerican#Americans are North Americans. Like Mexicans. And Canadians. We’re all North Americans. If you say just American that is about the people#who live in The United States. The United States of America because they’re in North America#Maybe you could even say Continental Americans for a big broad term#but you don’t need to say USAmericans because no one else from the Americas is American.#there is not MexicoAmerican or CanadAmerican#This is not a Europe or Asia situation#actually no it is like a fucking Europe situation where just because the bigfuckshit mass of land has one name for one sort of people#doesn’t mean everyone in the landmass orbits around one word for it#Bitches ain’t fucking GermanEuroUnionsians or whatever#EUGermany. UKEngland. Just say the Uk if you mean the Uk. United Kingdom. Or the EU. Or whatever country.#it’s overtaken people who say Soviet Russia when they mean the Soviet union and just assume the whole thing was Russian property#and everyone in the union was Russian and Russia was it when no they were other states there who got free#SIDETRACKED! Point being none of the rest of us are American none of the rest of us can be American so stop making space for that#they’re not just generic country either#Americans aren’t Mexican or Canadian#all different people!#There’s Mesoamerican but that is also not spin off American it’s its own thing too.#You don’t fucking say people people from the EU India and China are individually Eurasians in casual conversation cut it out#THIS IS NOT ABOUT DUAL CITZENSHIP OR MIXED IDENTITY OR TRAVEL ALSO FOR THE ONE COUNTRY HAS BIT

when ppl still refer to asian as a race🥴i don’t like bringing up discourse but i’m genuinely annoyed rn … specifically in the kpop community ( as far as i’ve seen) people only ever use the word asian to refer to east asians and it’s like … anyone who isn’t east asian needs to clarify that they’re south or south east or west asian when they say they’re asian but like … why bc we’re all asian it’s like🤣 tired of people ignoring the existence of whole countries in asia
#bffr#asia is a whole damn continent#…#idk if i’m being annoying bc idc#i’m annoyed!!#it is 2023 and it’s time ppl learn that asia isn’t just japan korea and china

I always get Feelings when I, a hairy little wasian thing, go into the K-pop merch store for my sticker hunt when it borderline fetishizes/cherry pick asianess to curate it to an aesthetic vision rampant with colorism
#is this really what Korea is to you..#I mean the country itself did this whole rebranding to appeal to occidental standards#so team effort I guess#and I would say Japan and china suffers the same treatment#but let’s not forget how those are three countries amongst forty eight#(according to the un)#and that I hope this is not the only vision of Asia people r having#ade rambles

#im hiding this in the tags bc im scared of getting flamed on the Reading Comprehension website but#as someone who does asian studies i really want to caution people from interpreting 4b in a western feminist lense and making assumptions#bc different parts of asia esp almost non-english speaking parts of asia have different ways of thinking about/describing their feminism#like how the rb on this post mentioned that this mvmnt doesn't have a leader#its autonomous (which u prob wouldn't see in a lot of western feminist movements)#also ALL OF EAST ASIA is becoming pro-natalist bc their birth rates are declining#japan and china specifically#nora fisher onar is a scholar who wrote a book abt the declining birth rate in china and the womens response to it#called leftover women#so the 4b mvmt is specific to korea but i can promise u its not just korea similar shit is happenined in china and japan#and its def misogyny and self-interest driving the gov to insist women stay at home (the same is going for japan and china rn)#and its also capitalism#gov wants more babies so there r more workers#but also to combat population decline#more youth means east asia has elder care for when its current work force gets old#im just upset that ppl w no context for asia or global issues are getting their hands on this post and going “go man haters go!!” bc there#is So Much more going on#the 4b mvmt is just the tip of the iceberg#the governments of east asia pushing are pro natalist policies most likely not ACTUALLY bc they think women belong at home#the treatment of women in east asias workforce has fluctuated thats a whole nother beast. like in china during ww2 they WANTED women workin#but they're pushing pro natalism now bc they want babies for their population#also plz take any news abt east asia w a grain of salt if ur a (monolingual) western english speaker bc#things inevitably get mistranslated thru language#i just have so many thoughts and my first one is good god western femcels/terfs/etc. do NOT get your hands on this post#one of the tags on a rb of this post went “go korean lesbians go” like#maybe don't trivialize the struggles of these women also lgbt issues in east asia are a totally separate issue#i also just feel like westerners attached themselves to what they think the 4b mvmt is and ran with it#tldr is like this prev reblog said the 4b mvnt isn't a “we hate men#girlpower” movement its a very specific protest against the gov#ALSO the bit abt how the only sure way to avoid pregnancy was by avoiding men

was going to be like 'haha i'm running out of posts to make so here's tma entities as vocaloid songs' but then i remembered the unfortunate baggage associated with the flesh and both of my potential flesh songs either had chinese in them despite primarily being an english language song and the other was full of traditional japanese instrumentation . this happens every time i go to do 'tma entities as [x]' . literally the same exact shit as when i was going to do 'tma entities as my outfits' but the shirt w the neon organ print just had to be changshan-inspired and thus it the implications became too unfortunate for me to go through w
#for those not familiar w tma. horror podcast w 15 diff entities representing diff sets of fears. the flesh was probably one of the#least utilized entities w only two running subplots. one of which basically boiled down to 'hey asian ppl eat weird shit. huh?'#the creator has since apologized but the amount of anti asian racism across the whole thing was crazyyyy#so now associating the flesh w anything tied to east asia or specifically china is getting into muddy water#romeo.txt

The dragons den bubble tea discourse is actually killing me. I’ve ended up working on a monster of a post with research and everything but that just means every day I have to think about it which makes me mad but I’ve already complained to my friends several times and raghghghg
#ramblings#tl;dr bubble tea was licherally made for a chain restaurant and seeing everyone talk about how people are disrespecting its deep culture is#infuriating#not to mention the fact that people are treating east Asia as a monolith when the fact that a Chinese man claimed a Taiwanese drink as his#heritage is INSANE given the political background between China and Taiwan#it’s such a nothingburger and as an actual Asian person living in an Asian country I’m just Ben affleck smoking meme#a similar thing happened to a friend years ago (being accused of appropriation for drinking bubble tea) and our whole ASIAN friend group#thought that was hilarious fringe twitter nonsense#and to see it being the main opinion now#is. wild

Something that I fear will get lost in all this that I cannot in good conscience let people ignore is that James Somerton is also just incredibly racist?
Between his willingness to rip off the works of asian writers, his total *unwillingness* to fact-check any of his own claims about laws and customs in asian countries (specifically China, I'll note), his enthusiastic citing of information from right-wing cracks who openly conspiracy theorize about China, and his gleeful theory crafting of whole new conspiracy bullshit about China in his attempt to frame all media discussions through his overly clouded lens, I think it's fair to say James Somerton is just racist. There's no sugarcoating it just because he doesn't espouse direct hate or use slurs. The passive liberal brand racism is still racism. Like, someone doesn't invent fake claims about Chinese box office coverups and help spread myths about censorship laws in Japanese television code out of nowhere. These are not the ideas of a man who has healthy or well adjusted views about Asia, these are pure and simple orientalism.

What queer Asian sci fi authors would you recommend?
Yeah, to put my money where my mouth is, here are some queer SFF writers from Asia and the Asian Diaspora in the Anglosphere that I really like and highly recommend:
Nghi Vo: probably doesn’t need an endorsement from me, hah, her The Empress of Salt and Fortune is one of the most perfect novellas I’ve ever read and well deserved its Hugo win. The whole Singing Hills cycle is great. It’s a fantasy world strongly inspired by Imperial China and Vietnam, and does clever things with fantasy, folklore, storytelling, and memory. Her novels are standalone historical fantasy set in 1920s-America-with-magic and are very much about Asian immigrant/diaspora experiences in the early 20th century US. With Magic.
Yoon Ha Lee: I love his Machineries of Empire. Would love to finish that trilogy someday. But seriously it’s creative, intense military sci-fi in a magic-science space empire and is very interested in what it takes to uphold such a system.
Simon Jimenez: The Vanished Birds is sooo heartbreakingly good and I need to read A Spear Cuts Through Water soon.
Isabel J. Kim: Short story writer. Runs the gamut of sci-fi, fantasy, horror, and the weird stuff in between. Creative and vivid in really compelling ways. Her first novel is in the works and I am SUPER interested. She does funky and creative things with perspective and structure in her stories. Has several stories now that are about turning popular tropes or other iconic stories around like they’re in a kaleidoscope, but her first published story “Homecoming Is Just Another Word for the Sublimation of the Self” is probably still the most affecting to me.
Michelle Kan: Has a trilogy of novelettes called Tales of the Thread, self-described as “aromantic Chinese fairytales” that take a deliberately aro approach to fairytale retellings and fairytale style fantasy. I recommend them. (Also has a superhero novel I haven’t read.)
———
Haven’t read yet but they are on my TBR:
Aliette de Bodard: Her Xuya universe novellas, and the relationships between humans and AIs and spaceships, sound super up my alley.
Kai Cheng Thom: Author of Fierce Femmes and Notorious Liars: A Dangerous Trans Girl’s Confabulous Memoir is a less traditionally sff entry but is a fabulist/surrealist take on the Trans Memoir… which I feel like I have to be in the right space for, but I do want to read it.
———
Also he’s not out as queer or anything but I can’t not recommend Ted Chiang because he writes some of the best short stories In The World and has THE most interesting and unique and compelling ideas.
———
There are also so many more authors out there I don’t know and haven’t read! But! Someday!!
#There are also queer Asian authors who I think write stuff that’s just mid. John Chu. Amal El-Mohtar. Iona Datt Sharma#But they still deserve interest and support for not being Relentless Internet Harassers. Check ‘em out#asks#anonymous#books

Soooo…. what ever happened to the puppets from Rudolph the Red-Nosed Reindeer? And why was Santa such a grumpy bastard?
Well, the answer to that first question ended up being a much more complicated story than it first appeared, even complete with a twist ending. And while researching it, I stumbled across the tale of a forgotten Japanese animation pioneer who revolutionized animation industries in Japan AND China, made a whole bunch of propaganda during WWII and the Chinese Civil War, and then created the Rankin/Bass "Animagic" animation style and animated all those classically American classic stop-motion Christmas classics that we know and love. Tadahito "Tad" Mochinaga (持永 只仁).
That's right, Rankin/Bass was an anime studio!
Born in 1919, Mochinaga was inspired by early Walt Disney shorts to become an animator. Much like Disney, he built Japan's first ever multi-plane camera rig,
Ari-chan (アリチャン, 1941)
before being contracted to make war propaganda.
Ironically at the same time he was working under Mitsuyo Seo (瀬尾 光世) on Momotarou's Sea Eagles (1943)—a delightful picture about a bunch of cute little animals triumphantly bombing the shit out of those fat, stupid Americans at Pearl Harbor—his biggest inspiration was working on his own exciting propaganda cartoons from the exact opposite side of the same conflict.
But it was during his time working under the Chinese Communist Party that he inadvertently popularized stop-motion puppet animation in east Asia.
Tasked with making a puppet film that satirized the Nationalist Party's leader, but also dealing with an extreme shortage of film in the country, Mochinaga realized that if he stiffened the joints of the puppets, posed them manually and shot them frame-by-frame instead, he could use only the exact number of frames necessary.
He would continue to refine that stop-motion style after returning to Japan,
and eventually catch the eye of an American producer, Arthur Rankin Jr, who had just started a studio with his friend Jules Bass.
The story continues in much greater detail in this video, which completely obliterated my other plans for the month, and which I promise, does actually answer the question at the start of this post. I really didn't expect this project to balloon into an epic that spans an entire century, but in order to understand the ending, you have to start at the beginning!
youtube
Seriously though, I think this is the best video I've made yet and you KNOW I spent an absurd amount of time learning 3D modeling/rigging/texturing/animation to make what amounts to just some stylistic icing on the cake, but it's a bit different from what I usually make and youtube can punish you for that so if you do find the video interesting and feel like sharing it with someone you think would also be interested, I will personally show up at your house with an old satchel bursting with deliciously ripe oranges and squeeze all that sweet, sloppy nectar by hand, one-by-one directly into your expectant, gaping maw.

There was that post going around (that I'm too lazy to find) about the mother who gave her son a shovel to go dig and his whole mood improved.
In a no capes AU that would 100% be Bruce with Dick.
Bruce, intellectually, knew that children were high energy. He understood that adopting Dick meant a great number of life changes and responsibilities. He didn't expect the tornado of energy that was Dick.
See, Dick, being a circus kid, was used to always moving, doing having a task. If he wasn't performing he was practicing. If he wasn't practicing he was helping around the circus. Even on the road there were uniforms and nets to mend and animals to tend to and-- well, Wayne manner is all very calm, isn't it? And poor Dick is hurting and angry and needs to do something.
The gym Bruce installs help, but that isn't enough-- that isn't a task.
One day, in a fit of exhaustion and much needed rest, Bruce goes out to the shed attached to the garage, grabs a shovel, and hands it to Dick.
"Alfred is planing to plant a vegetable garden, why don't you help him dig the plots."
And Dick is off like lightning.
Alfred raise one far too judgemental eyebrow at Bruce. "Am I now, Master Bruce?"
"Hn."
They quickly learn that they have to tell Dick very clearly where to dig and how deep or they'll have to get a ladder and pull him out of a hole halfway to the cave system under Wayne manner.
(Bruce has nightmares that night about Dick being lost to the caves.)
And so the manor gains a garden, Dick learns how, a bit, to be a child outside of the circus, and Bruce actually gets to do some work. It's several months later when Alfred comes to Bruce.
"While I understand that the garden has been useful.... enrichment for Master Richard, I do think that perhaps you should inform him to stop digging."
"Wonderful timing, Alfred. I'm about to be in China for a month. I'm sure that I could extend the trip to two, maybe three months if I tack on some service work in South East Asia and visits to old friends."
"...perhaps an orchard wouldn't be remiss."

A POWERFUL MEDITATION TECHNIQUE TO ENTER
THE VOID STATE INSTANTLY
Radiant One, this experience may dawn between two breaths
After breath comes in – that is, down – and just before turning out – that is, going up – The Beneficence. Be aware between these two points, and the happening. When your breath comes in, observe. For a single moment, there is no breathing – before it turns up, before it turns outward. One breath comes in; then there is a certain point and breathing stops. Then the breathing goes out. When the breath goes out, then again for a single moment, breathing stops. Then breathing comes in.
Before the breath is turning in or turning out, there is a moment when you are not breathing. In that moment the happening is possible, because when you are not breathing you are not in the world. Understand this: when you are not breathing you are dead; you ARE still, but dead. But the moment is of such a short duration that you never observe it.
Each outgoing breath is a death and each new breath is a rebirth. Breath coming in is rebirth; breath going out is death. The outgoing breath is synonymous with death; the incoming breath is synonymous with life. So with each breath you are dying and being reborn. The gap between the two is of a very short duration, but keen, sincere observation and attention will make you feel the gap. If you can feel the gap, Then nothing else is needed. You are blessed, you have known; the thing has happened.
Try it. Suddenly you will get the point – and you can get it; it is already there. Nothing is to be added to you or to your structure, it is already there. Everything is already there except a certain awareness.
SO HOW TO DO THIS ?
First, become aware of the breath coming in. Watch it. Forget everything, just watch breath coming in – the very passage.
When the breath touches your nostrils, feel it there. Then let the breath move in. Move with the breath fully consciously. When you are going down, down, down with the breath, do not miss the breath. Do not go ahead and do not follow behind, just go with it. Remember this: do not go ahead, do not follow it like a shadow; be simultaneous with it.
Breath and consciousness should become one. The breath goes in – you go in. Only then will it be possible to get the point which is between two breaths.
Be aware. When the breath is going in move with it, and when the breath is going out move with it. Do simply this: going in, going out, with the breath.
You will suddenly become aware that there is no breath, and the moment will come when you will feel that the breath is neither going out nor coming in. The breath has stopped completely. In that stopping, The Beneficence.
This one technique is enough for millions. The whole of Asia tried and lived with this technique for centuries. Tibet, China, Japan, Burma, Thailand, Ceylon – the whole of Asia except India has tried this technique. Only one technique and thousands and thousands have attained enlightenment through it.
-- From The Book of Secrets
NOW , HOW YOU CAN USE THIS TO ENTER THE VOID :
Sit or Lay down in a comfortable position
Now start Focusing on your breath Be aware. When the breath is going in move with it, and when the breath is going out move with it. Do simply this: going in, going out, with the breath.
You will suddenly become aware that there is no breath, and the moment will come when you will feel that the breath is neither going out nor coming in. The breath has stopped completely.
Whilst doing this you will notice that ur body is now completely numb , there r NO intrusive thoughts etc..and this is the time when u gotta affirm for void AND I KID YOU NOT U R GONNA ENTER THE VOID INSTANTLY , mark my words , INSTANTLY !
That's it ! This is the most easiest and yet the most powerful technique u can use to enter the void I SWEAR !! ♡
#void#void state#law of assumption#void success#void state success story#loassumption#void challenge
