some short (and probably unlikely) lgpe!leaf headcanons that ive been thinking about for the last 2 days which probably will be false and i will delete this later but i wanted to put it here first jfkdksd
➞
clefairy main! leaf considered a person with unreasonable luck
leaf getting a late start on her journey because red and green took prof. oaks only available pokemon
red and green feeling bad for just leaving her but she insists she’ll be okay and will catch up soon
a sad leaf having a mew encounter, who tells her not to be sad, and brings her a wandering clefairy to catch. prof oak being glad she caught a starter on her own so she can head out
leaf misc. running into red and green along the way, main focus being the pokedex
leaf having to train her ass off because she feels like shes behind both red and green.
neither of them battle her because they both feel bad until post-league. as a result she overtrains and becomes OP without knowing. after she beat Green-‘cmon I’ll take it easy on you’-Oak, red refuses to fight her. he doesnt want to know the result.
she really believes green took it easy on her
fights the league and WINS, but doesnt really want the champion title. she just wanted to know she could do it
leaf UNREASONABLY relying on metronome. somehow it always ALWAYS works out in some way. her clefairy is a lucky charm
green having a soft spot, refusing to admit to anyone that he has a bit of a crush on her. green claiming its just infatuation. red reminds him, “what, a 4 year long infatuation?”
he hates being called out on his bullshit
leaf becoming an exploration, research, and pokedex nut, while red becomes champion, and green is awkwardly second-best at both
team rockets always trying to 1) steal her pokedex or 2) get her to join. she hates them. theyre just straight up annoying
green thinking hes her self-proclaimed protector/hero and helps her fight, even though she clearly doesnt need it. she thinks its cute and lets him anyway
green always making excuses to travel with her because shes ‘too weak to travel by yourself, its dangerous’ and ‘eh, i was heading this way anyway’
green yelling at her that “You can’t win battles by relying on METRONOME!” then she proceeds to win a battle with metronome
(her clefairy has other strong moves, but she uses metronome to get the edge on)
leaf being unrealistically good at the slot machines. her clefairy is helping her (lol) and she wins a bunch of prize money.
rocket: ‘leaf we love you but youre making us go broke pls stop we’re going to ban you soon’
leaf giving red and green a bunch of items and pokeballs along the way. green always gets more gifts than red but neither of them know.
leaf being the one who braves the pokemon tower with the boys(tm) trying to pretend theyre not scared following behind her
leafs main goal being to find mew again. she eventually does. green always asks why theres a pokeball on her belt she never uses. she shrugs it off and dodges the question
#pokemon#pkmn#headcanons#text#delete later#leaf#green#red#conflictingshipping#fhkjsd sorry these are a bit half baked i feel but ive been thinkin about it a lot#i really do hope she gets a clefairy#in a universe where red stays the champion since he is very much gonna be there and i cant ignore him

So the Bly ending is written where Dani is doomed to return to the lake. What would your alternative fanfic ending look like where she (and/or Jaime) overcame this, or Dani didn’t have to die? Is that okay ask?
The universe is vast and sprawling, infinite. Every story has its repercussions, events laid out end to end, a preordained path. Every teller must, as consequence of shaping the tale, admit to one endpoint as its required result. A story is possessed of a beginning, middle, end.
But, not every end is singular.
The universe is vast, sprawling, infinite. And tiny details rearrange enormous conclusions.
Jamie wakes early most mornings; Jamie is a morning person, tried and true, good at being awake before most people are willing to condone the action. Morning is when conversation is least likely to sneak up on a person, when someone is allowed to simply be alone with whatever thoughts they please, without explanation. She was good at it before Dani Clayton strode into her life, and she’s been arguably better at it ever since.
This morning, the morning of the greatest consequence in maybe their entire life together, Jamie wakes earlier than most. The sky is still dark outside their bedroom window, the world still muddled and whispering around the apartment. Birds have not yet taken to their morning rituals. The sun is miles away.
And Dani is starting to stir.
Jamie sits up, leaning back against the pillows, and watches as her wife--lips parted in a silent snore, hand tossed across Jamie like it was made to rest there--raises her head. Turns it, ever so slightly, in Jamie’s direction. She makes to whisper something in return--good morning, or go back to sleep, or I love you--but Dani’s face is slack. There’s no sign of activity about the expression, no sign that she’s doing this of her own free will.
At first, it’s almost funny. Watching Dani slide across the bed toward her, bemused as she drapes a leg over Jamie’s lap and settles her weight like a queen upon a throne. There’s something decidedly not-Dani about the action; Dani laughs when she climbs to a position like this, self-consciousness and delight mixing on her pretty face. This Dani, this sleepwalking variant, moves like something is pulling the strings from a terrible distance.
And it hurt, Jamie thinks for no reason at all, a parody of an eleven-year-old boy in her still-waking mind. She raises her eyebrows, lets her hands settle on Dani’s hips, watches her wife just...sit there. Astride her in a red sleep shirt and no sign of consciousness.
It is, if she’s honest with herself, more than a touch eerie.
When Dani’s arm raises, it’s the slowest thing Jamie’s ever watched. Like a mechanical thing, like an automaton not yet ready for practice, Dani’s arm shifts, elbow bending, releasing, extending. Her hand, Jamie realizes belatedly, is forming a sort of loose claw shape.
There is a universe, she thinks, where Dani’s hand continues its arc across calm night air and makes its predestined landing. A universe where those fingers she knows so well, the ones that tickle and trace and hold tight to her each day as the world gets harder and harder to occupy, clutch around Jamie’s windpipe. There is a universe where this, this final moment, is where Dani’s belated beast in the jungle finally makes its move.
“Right, then,” Jamie says, so softly she barely hears the words herself. “We need to talk.”
Dani’s hand...pauses. Mid-flight, stretched out, her other braced against Jamie’s shoulder for balance, and her eyes don’t open. Jamie’s relieved. If Dani were to wake like this, if Dani were to feel just how close to the edge she really is--and Jamie’s the first to insist it isn’t so, but sometimes you just need to know when to say when--things would go differently. Things could go very badly indeed.
Dani doesn’t wake. Jamie, carefully, stretches out her own hand. The left one, the one honored with a gold band that marks lifelong love, friendship, loyalty. She wraps her fingers around the wrist that does not, in this moment, seem to belong to Dani Clayton at all.
“It’s you, then,” Jamie says softly. Her voice is raw, deeper than its normal cadence with early morning rasp. “Isn’t it?”
Dani’s head...tilts. Just a little, like she’s listening. Or, more accurately, like someone else is listening from inside.
“You, waking at last,” Jamie goes on. Dani’s head...nods. Just a little. Barely anything at all, and if Jamie weren’t looking for it, maybe she’d think it was a fit of shadows.
“You,” she says, “thinking you get to claim your prize.”
Dani doesn’t move. Jamie sits up a little more, shifting Dani’s weight atop her, careful not to jar. She leans closer to Dani’s face, one hand still holding the offending wrist, the other sliding up the side of Dani’s neck with tender care. She rests her fingers along the span of Dani’s jaw, gentle as she’s ever known how to be. This is a moment for gentle. This is a moment for infinite care.
“I’ve read your story,” she says to the beast in the jungle. She hasn’t told Dani just how far down that particular rabbit hole she’s slid. They've talked about some of it, about the strange dreams Dani feels certain are more than nighttime fabrications. About locked trunks and lost daughters and loneliness. But there’s more to any ghost story than the echoes of misery, and one day, with Dani out on errands, she made a call to an old friend across the pond. And then another. And another, following leads, old voices spinning older stories with just enough sources behind them that they really did constitute history.
Henry Wingrave will never know the gift he granted, taking her call that day, arming her this way. He never needs to. Jamie’s grateful enough.
“I know what happened to you,” she says now, her fingers cupping Dani’s face like on a thousand other nights. “I know about your husband.”
Something in Dani’s face seems to shiver. Jamie presses on.
“I know about your sister.”
Something in Dani’s brow seems to harden. Jamie is undeterred.
“I know you know what love is. No. I know you know devotion. You do, don’t you? That word. It’s everything.”
Dani’s head is still, her eyes closed, but Jamie senses the thing puppeteering her body is listening very, very intently. She nods. She isn’t smiling, isn’t making a game of this. There is such a thing as last chances, and Jamie knows better than most what those look like.
“You understand. Because you and I, I think we speak the same language, when it’s all on the table. Devotion. It’s the reason we’re here. It’s the engine we, you and I, run on. Isn’t it?”
Dani’s head...nods. A little harder this time. Like the thing inside, hands on the controls, is really beginning to figure out all those little buttons and knobs. Jamie swallows. Faster, then. Time is running shy.
“You understand, then, why I can’t let you have her.”
A pause. The wrist in her grasp flexes, fingers twitching toward a fist. Jamie twists her grip slightly, lets her thumb run soft along Dani’s skin, and those fingers relax.
“I know. I know you’ve been through it. I can see that. But she...is everything. She’s my world. And I know you know what that feels like. So, I’m not...gonna beg. I’m not gonna sit here on my knees and plead with you, because I think you and I both know that isn’t worth a whit of your respect. I’m just gonna say it. All right?
“This,” she says. “Her. She stays. S’not me begging. S’me saying exactly how it is. She. Stays.”
Dani’s body sits for a moment, frozen, and Jamie thinks she’s misplayed those cards. That Dani’s hands will shoot for her throat again, and this time, they will finish what they woke this morning to start.
“I?” Dani’s voice sounds wrong. Distant. Like a sleepwalker mouthing dreamspeech. Jamie doesn’t think she’s imagining the very light tinge of accent--nothing like the silly dialect butchering Dani likes to do when she’s poking fun at Jamie. “What of me?”
“That,” Jamie says through a mouth so dry, she could lean over the side of the bed and vomit, “is between you and yours. I’m not gonna tell you again, though. This one. She stays.”
“Ends,” the voice that isn’t Dani’s whispers. “Everything.”
“Yes.” Tears, pricking Jamie’s eyes, do not match the smile moving to rest upon her lips. “Yes. It does. Eventually. But we have time, she and I. We have so much time. And...when it’s over?”
“Yes,” the voice breathes. There’s something horribly wanton behind the word. Jamie swallows.
“When it’s over, we go back. Her and I. Back to where it all started. Your place. Your home. You won’t be alone, not anymore, but first...we get this. You give us this. She carried you out of that place without anyone asking, least of all me, and she’ll carry you for the rest of her life because Christ knows she won’t give you up for anyone else to bear. But that’s enough. You hear? It’s enough. It’s you, and it’s us, but not yet. Not until we’re ready.”
“Life,” the voice says, almost scornfully. “Never ready.”
“We,” Jamie hisses, “will be. One day. When we’re old and withered, when my hair’s gone snow-side and her eyes aren’t so good anymore, when we’re all out of beautiful boredom and all that’s left is to go holding her hand all the way to the other side. Then. We’ll sleep at Bly one last time, and we’ll wake together, and we’ll walk. As long as you like. We will. But.”
“Not yet,” the voice says. Jamie isn’t imagining the resolution in the words, she’s sure. “Not yet.”
“And until then,” Jamie adds, leaning forward until her forehead is nearly flush with Dani’s. “Until then, you leave her be. You hear me? No more reflections. No more shaking her loose until she can’t feel me beside her. You go back to sleep, and you stay asleep until you feel the pull of that old house again. Are we of an accord?”
Old-fashioned words for an old-fashioned oath, and oh, if this doesn’t work, Jamie’s got nothing left. She isn’t one for pretty language. She isn’t one for negotiation.
But she is, always will be, Dani’s. Dani’s champion. Dani’s partner. Dani’s rock.
“Yes,” the voice says at last, the voice of a Lady so old and so long-buried, it’s a wonder there’s anything left of her at all. Jamie nods, pushing her head against the smooth skin of Dani’s, her hand coming up to cup the back of her hair.
“Then I think it’s time we said goodnight.”
“Jamie?” The word wavers. Dani seems to fall against her, like whatever was holding her up has finally come loose. Jamie, prepared, holds fast, holds soft, holds and presses their lips together.
“Just a bad dream, Poppins,” she says. “Just a strange bad dream.”
“I was dreaming,” Dani repeats, waking in a slow rolling wave. “I was dreaming of...moonflowers. Of that night. Of the way you...”
Jamie kisses her again, channeling everything of that night she can into the act, holding her close and praying she can’t feel the way Jamie’s heart careens and crashes inside her chest. Dani, bewildered, kisses back with soft little whimpers, her knees clamped tight around Jamie’s hips.
They’ll go back to bed soon enough, Dani’s head on her chest, Dani’s fingers fisted tight around the loose-buttoned flannel of her shirt. Dani will breathe in and out, soft, slow, and Jamie will lay awake. Waiting for a sign. Waiting for any kind of sign that this pact was not well enough made.
But the beast in the jungle will give no sign of life. No sign at all. Dani will sleep, and Jamie will tangle a hand in her hair and hold fast, and when morning comes properly...it’s just another morning. Sunrise and birdsong and plants to water.
And, she’ll think, when Dani rises and sleepily makes her way toward a hot shower, her eyes will look clearer than they have in months.
“Good, Poppins?”
Dani, like one granted a reprieve they can’t quite put a finger on, will smile. A real smile, honest and clear, dimples and delight.
“Feels like a nice morning, doesn’t it?”
She’ll vanish into the bathroom, leaving the door open in wordless invitation, and Jamie, finally, will exhale.

Lore Post About The Gods
There are many gods in this universe, we are only going to be talking about the relevant ones. Otherwise this is gonna turn into the Greek God family tree very fast and trust me we don’t want that. So, let’s talk about some gods!
The God of Time - Avus Tempus (Grandpa Time)
General information:
The oldest god and the god that interacts with people the most, Avus Tempus is the most well known. He is the keeper of time, making sure it passes normally with no great disturbances. He watches as time passes, but does not interfere with mortal disagreements, even if he disapproves. He says that it is not his job to interfere.
Avus is older than time itself, and is the creator of the other gods. Avus was also the creator of the first Time Demons - which he calls his children with great glee. He has been given many nicknames over the years, with the most common being “Grandpa Time.” The limits to his powers are unknown, but is it commonly known that he can control the flow of time, and can open portals to different dimensions or various periods throughout time by roaring. People also know that he, with the help of his two direct children, Moíra and Apeiro, killed the Titan of War during his rampage.
(Bonus: Grandfather clocks were named after him)
Appearance:
Avus appears as a long serpent like dragon with no arms or legs, green scales, golden horns and eyes, with long white hair down his spine and on his chin, making a beard of sorts. Legends say that his body extends forever, able to loop around the earth. Avus himself jokes that he has not ever seen his own tail. His fur is said to be as soft as clouds, and his scales are so tough that no spear could pierce it. However, despite being immortal, Avus himself is not completely immune to the effects of time. His eyes are pale and milky, showing that with age his sight has gotten very poor. Today he would be considered almost legally blind.
Where they live:
Avus lives in a huge palace on the top of the largest mountain on Earth. The mountain is called “Mortum Manga,” and is on the “Multi Ossa” mountain range. Inside his palace are intricate carvings on the walls that tell the history of the world, from Avus’ creaton on to current day. There is also a fountain which is called the “Fountain of Youth.” Contrary to popular belief, this fountain does not make you immortal or young, but instead heals all sicknesses. It was named the Fountain of Youth because it was used to cure a large plague that was mostly killing children.
Along the side of the mountain is a small village called “The Village Of Lights.“ These people often interact with Avus directly. In fact, every 5 years they hold a festival where they light various sky lanterns and send them into the sky. Afterwards, Avus comes down to the village and talks to them. He specifically likes to meet with all of the children - who he likes to call his grandkids.
Personality:
He is an extremely friendly and passive god, often inviting people to come and have tea with him in his palace. Overall, Avus is very polite and is more than willing to shelter anyone if they ask. However that is difficult for most - since not only does he live atop the highest mountain, he also does look very intimidating. In reality he just wants to talk about how your day has been going. Avus is most certainly the kindest god that mortals can talk to.
He tries his best to keep up with new terms, words, controversial topics, etc. Because of his old age it can be hard for him to keep up. He ends up coming across as that overly supportive and sweet grandparent that doesn't understand but is trying to. (Ex: “Are you a boy or a girl? I cannot tell. My vision isn’t what it used to be. Oh wait - are you one of those non-berries? Not binaries? So sorry I don’t remember.”). Because of his age he is also considered very knowledgeable and wise, and people will sometimes come to him or pray to him for advice and counsel.
Avus is mostly considered to be extremely patient and calm, however there have been reports of him being fiercely protective of his “little village.” Those who have dared to harm those living or seeking refuge there have mysteriously ended up turned to stone.
The God of Life, Death, and Fate - Apeiro
General Information:
Apeiro is the god of life and death, which means it’s their job to make sure life is balanced. Apeiro can keep populations down through plagues, famine, natural disasters, or other means. Aperio can also bless certain times with good crops, more births, or other means to make sure populations stay up if need be. It is important to remember that Aperio’s job is NOT to make life/death fair. Apeiro also makes sure that spirits end up in their proper afterlife. Apeiro can also tug on the strings of fate, not manipulating them completely, but pushing them where they want it to go.
They stand against large acts of necromancy, however, they made a deal with Alita long ago. In this deal, Totems Of Undying were allowed to be created and sealed deep inside Jungle Temples. It is unknown exactly what Apeiro got in exchange for allowing this to happen but people have speculated that it has something to do with the existence of Wither Skeletons, which guard Nether Fortresses, and Withers, which can be made with a combination of three Wither Skulls and Soul Sand.
Apeiro also assisted Avus and Moíra in taking down the Titan of War.
Appearance:
They have a dark gray cloak/robe that wraps around them and flows dramatically to the floor. It drifts behind them, rippling and waving like there’s constantly a breeze. At the edges of the cloak there are dozens of tiny white stars. They don’t have a face, just a black shadow that flickers around the edges when you look directly at it (which is something you should never do). They do have hands that look like skeleton talons that float separately from their body since they do not have arms. They also have horns that used to merge as a sort of crown above their head. Now, from previous battles, those horns have been splintered and broken in two.
Where they live:
Apeiro lives inside a castle, which has the foundation of the skeleton of an ancient colossal dragon. They live with their younger sister, Moíra. Apeiro specifically lives in the head - which has been remade into a massive throne room mixed with a fancy ballroom. The neck leading up to this room is a very long hallway that has many statues of many different people. These people are referred to as “Champions,” and they are previous winners of the Champion’s Cup.
This skeleton castle is called the “Fossa Palace” and it can be found in the middle of the “Decaying Wastelands” desert. It is unknown what killed the colossal dragon, but rumors have spread that Aperio did it themselves and decided to make it their home. Regardless, when the wind blows in the cold of night, people say they can still hear soft roars and hums of the dead dragon.
Other than living with Moíra, Apeiro lives completely alone and does not normally travel outside of their castle. They only do so in big emergencies such as universal threats or large acts of necromancy.
Personality:
Apeiro is very dramatic and adores big and grand theatrics. The Champions Cup itself was created out of boredom since messing with mortal lives from the sidelines can only entertain a god for so long. Speaking of which, Apeiro finds great entertainment in watching mortal lives, and loves to play with them. Whether this is good playing or bad playing, depends on their mood. Apeiro finds it amusing to poke and prod at people’s lives from time to time, and is considered a being of madness from a few of their victims. Apeiro laughs as a witness to human wars, and sees all mortal conflict as beneath them. They will sometimes even find glee in watching other gods squabble over petty things.
The Goddess of Karma, Justice, and Fortune - Moíra
General Information:
Moíra is the goddess of karma, justice, and fortune. This means she mainly watches over humanity and tries to keep people’s lives fair, even, and balanced. She gets very angered when there are big atrocities happening in the world, or even just when excessively unfair things happen to good or bad people. She is often the judge and jury and innacts justice as she sees fit. Moíra is a very patient force as well, and ensures that eventually, in one way or another, that good things happen to good people and bad things happen to bad people. karma is a patient force.
She also blesses those she sees fit with various fortunes (whether this be money, something more spiritual, or something emotional will depend), or will take away from those who have committed horrendous crimes,
Moíra also helped Avus and Apeiro kill the titan of war, and was the main one leading the charge against him.
Appearance:
Moíra wears an extravagant white robe with golden patterns of leaves as an accent. She appears as a youthful human woman with dark skin and curly hair, but is very unnerving to look at. Her eyes are pure gold, dripping liquid gold down her cheeks. She has large curling goat horns which are decorated with various gems. Moíra also wears a laurel headpiece as a crown, with a bright red ruby in the center. She constantly floats just above the ground in order to keep herself clean.
Where they live:
Moíra lives inside a castle, which has the foundation of the skeleton of an ancient colossal dragon. She lives with her older sibling, Aperio. Moíra specifically lives near the top of the rib cage - which has been remade into a large fighting stadium. This stadium is where a tournament called the “Champion’s Cup” is held once a decade. There is an observatory hanging from the top of the dome ceiling, this is where Moíra resides. However she can also commonly be found with Aperio, or in the castle's library. Moíra does travel outside the castle for business purposes and works with people a lot.
Personality:
Moíra is much more careful about keeping balance then Apeiro is, and is much more responsible with her powers. Moíra also tends to scold her older sibling very often and is not very trusting of them. People think that the only reason Moíra lives with Apeiro is because she wants to keep a close eye on them.
By and large, Moíra is a very patient and slow god. She takes her time and thinks her actions through for a long time before acting. She thinks, a lot, and makes very calculated decisions like some sort of gamemaster. Moíra is willing to play the long game and waits for the pieces to fall into place so she can enact her plan properly.
Moíra is also very vengeful, and remembers all of the little wrongdoings people have done. However she is very fair with her punishments, at least, she sees what she has done as fair.
The Goddess of The End and the Keeper of The Void - The Enderdragon
General Information
History says that long ago there were Colossal Dragons; dragons that were born small and slowly grew throughout their lives until they were bigger than mountains. They have largely gone extinct because food became scarce and they were unable to eat enough to maintain their size. Some of their skeletons can still be seen to this day.
People know whispers of an old tale, about a dragon larger than mountains who rules The End as queen, and controls the Endermen as slaves to her will. That long ago she attempted to wipe out all life on this planet, but failed due to an intervention from Moíra, along with Avus who both banished her away from the Overworld. They say that one day, The Enderdragon will return, and have her revenge on everyone who dared forget her name.
The majority of people don’t even believe she’s real, and some have never even heard of her. Most people believe The Enderdraon is a made-up myth tale that was made by man to explain the unknown creation of Endermen. Some people see The Enderdragon as a sort of boogeyman figure, a tale Dragon Riders will tell their children to get them to behave; Others believe she’s just some rumor made to prevent people from exploring The Stronghold. The only thing people know for certain, is that people who have dared to enter The End have either been never seen again, or come back with horrifying stories and with their children being cursed and becoming Endermen hybrids.
Appearance:
In stories she is illustrated as a large black dragon, bigger than mountains, with large grey horns and wings. The wings are usually torn, along with many scars from various battles decorating her body. The most prominent feature is her bright purple eyes. It is said that she breathes hot purple fire.
Where they live:
In the End, one of the many different dimensions in this universe. It is mostly illustrated as many floating islands made of pale yellow sand. There are various crumbling purple buildings, along with purple plants that grow an odd fruit with teleportation abilities called “chorus fruit.” Endermen in the overworld are sometimes seen holding these. In the center of these islands are 10 tall obsidian pillars- each with an odd crystal that contains healing abilities, but only for The Enderdragon.
Underneath the islands of the end is an endless void of darkness. It is unknown what could possibly be down there. Those who have tried to find out have never returned.
Personality:
In the legends, The Enderdragon is painted as an angry, vindictive, and spiteful dragon who wants nothing more than to watch humanity burn.
The Goddess of Magic - Alita
General Information:
Alita is the keeper of all the different types of magic. There is Protection Magic, Elemental Magic, Combat Magic, Enchantments, and Necromancy. Alita is the higher power that can control all of these types of magic over others, and because of this is considered very dangerous. She can grant magic to people if they sacrifice something of great value. If she gives you magic then your spells will always appear as pure black.
Alita can also freely travel through the different dimensions - The Overworld, The Nether, and The End. She also creates permanent portals that are scattered all throughout the world. One of these portals is The Stronghold - which is a permanent portal to The End. It is unknown where others may be.
Alita is also the mother to all Kitsune, each born under a different type of magic. Kitsune are made to help Alita watch over the Overworld since she lives deep underground in The Nether. However, it is not uncommon for Kitsune to diverge from this purpose and instead do their own thing. Alita does not see a problem with this, since not only can she freely make new ones, but if she really needs to she can force her will onto the Kitsune that rebel against her wishes.
Appearance:
Alita appears to be wearing an elegant masquerade mask that looks like a peacock. You can barely see one white eye and a small beak peeking out from the mask. Nobody, except for a few other gods, knows what she looks like under the mask. Anyone who has seen does not remember. Alita generally appears to be avian-like, being part Peacock. She has peacock tail feathers that fan up whenever she gets angry. However, the eyes seem a little too real, and people have reported getting headaches from looking at them for too long. Over her body is a beautiful silk purple dress with silver accents on the ends. She also wears many different rings and necklaces that have been given to her.
Floating around her are five multichromatic flaming orbs that flash different colors. Each one stands for a different type of magic. Protection magic is represented by an icy blue, Elemental Magic flashes between red, dark blue, and light green depending on the element, Combat Magic is represented by royal purple, Enchantments is represented by orange, and Necromancy is represented by a dark green.
Where they live:
Alita lives very deep underground in the nether, in the darkest caves surrounded by bubbling lava. Various bones decorate the entrance to her cave and she has a massive throne made of gold.
Personality:
Alita is described as the cruelest of the gods. While Aperio may mess with fate, that is their job and they ultimately keep some semblance of balance. Alita will play games with the mortals who dare to visit her simply for the fun of it. She is very playful and likes to toy with people, forcing them to make extremely difficult decisions and pay the price for their hubris.
Alita can be won over with attention and praise however. She adores it when people grovel and give her positive attention just for a silly favor. While she may not often go out into the world, Alita is always open to visitors of any kind. After all, the visitors are often very entertaining.
The Titan of War, also known as The Blood God - Sanguineous
General Information:
Not much is known about the Blood God. He has mostly been lost to ancient legend. They say he was an old titan that became more powerful the more he killed. So, he became power hungry and so full of bloodlust that he attempted to wipe out all life on Earth. Because of this, he was killed by Moíra, Avus and Apeiro. His name is only known from old tapestries and ancient texts; Sanguineous.
Some say that he is not dead, but is simply resting for the right time to strike again. Some say his bones are what made the Multi Ossa mountain range. Some say that his presence can still be felt to this day. Some people do know that those who have been touched by his presence have pure red eyes. Other rumours tell of pockets of underground lakes that still hold the old Titan’s own blood. There are whispers that those pockets hold unimaginable power, if only someone could find and harness them.
Appearance:
Old paintings and tapestries depict the Blood God as a creature made purely of bone - but only an upper body up. His chest is shown to be a human skeleton, with the hands mutated into large claws. His head, however, is depicted as a large ram skull, with humongus black horns and glowing red eyes. Sometimes, he is depicted holding a large netherite axe which he attempted to split the earth with.
Where they live:
Since the Blood God is dead, he does not live anywhere. When he was alive he did not live in any particular place. He simply wandered the Overworld.
Personality:
The only thing known is that he wanted nothing but for blood to be spilt from each end of the earth.

Tunnel Vision
Read on: AO3
Back then, Astrid had been the wonder girl of Hogwarts. The star of Gryffindor, role model student, best Chaser Hogwarts has ever seen. Her glory ended when suddenly, Hiccup Horrrendous Haddock III, previous nobody now turned superstar started beating her at everything. Literally. He took the spotlight from then on, genius Slytherin boy, top of class for all time, the fastest and the most agile Seeker Hogwarts has ever seen.
It hurt to no longer be in the limelight, to always be in his shadow. But she can't help admiring him, he was kind, compassionate, and a competent leader. And he's incredibly attractive too.
In which Astrid and Hiccup have a confrontation that ends with a twist. Pre-relationship, silly teenagers.
Author’s Note:
Ahh, the infamous Hogwarts AU. This came to me suddenly in the middle of the night, choosing to write a 4k one shot instead of editing articles and finishing my editorial. Oh well.
Okay take note, I made some changes to this universe. One, the Triwizard tournament is back, because why tf not. And two, the age requirement of the Triwizard tournament is not quite the same. I've chosen to make it 15(?) to make it HTTYD compliant since the gang were 15 year olds when they started training dragons.
I also made a choice that some of the readers may not like(?), which was Hiccup being sorted in Slytherin rather than in Hufflepuff. I will start my defense by insisting that he IS definitely Slytherin; intelligent and cunning, with an insane drive to prove himself to the world and leave his mark. He is a strong leader as well as a careful thinker, with a snarky attitude too. Sound Slytherin enough?
Anyway, hope you guys like this. My memory of HP goes all the way back in grade school so....have fun? And leave kudos and comments!
---
The Great Hall erupts with roars of cheering, as students donned in black and green robes stand from their tables to holler delightedly.
House Slytherin had won the House Cup yet again, third time on the row. Astrid huffs bitterly, jamming her fork on her steak, upset that her house couldn’t overtake Slytherin. They were only down by 30 points after all, and had House Gryffindor won the Quidditch Finals, surely they would have won the House Cup as well.
But of course. Even though Astrid scored points after points, being the best Chaser there was in the entirety of the Hogwarts Quidditch varsity, their initial access all crumbled away the moment Hiccup pumped his fist up in the air, Golden Snitch in hand.
210 to 190, Slytherin versus Gryffindor. Their massive lead over Slytherin fell away just like that.
It was a great game, if she were to be honest. The pitch stands were full at that day, with even Ravenclaw and Hufflepuff students coming in to watch the decisive match for the House Cup. Gryffindor lost, but not without honor. She knew she did her best, which was why it was easy to hold her head up as both teams went for the ending handshake.
Well until her and Hiccup's hands came across each other, and she had found herself looking to the side then.
She sighed. Hiccup Horrendous Haddock III. The golden boy of Hogwarts. Slytherin's seeker and the top student overall, the son of two amazing aurors Stoick Haddock and Valka Stormcutter. Chosen Hogwarts champion and won the Triwizard tournament, amazingly so, after showing a great feat of making the dragons in the arena listen and cooperate with him.
Hiccup, that scrawny, clumsy, awkward Slytherin boy, who had suddenly turned 180, improving leaps upon leaps. Suddenly one of the strongest duelists in the academy, suddenly the fastest and the most agile Seeker Hogwarts has ever seen, suddenly everyone’s biggest crush—what, with his tall and lean figure, adorable freckles, beautiful green eyes, and disarming smile—
Wait. Hold on.
Did I just…Did I just—
Did I just think Hiccup was adorable, beautiful, and disarming?
Astrid flushes despite herself. She can’t believe her sudden change of thoughts, suddenly feeling embarrassed even though she has no outward reason to be. She should be wallowing in sadness after losing the House Cup, dammit, Slytherin has won the same amount of cups as Gryffindor now ever since she entered the academy.
She chances a glance at Hiccup from her table, who is currently being swamped by students in green robes. The Thorston twins flank Hiccup side by side, with Ruffnut ruffling Hiccup’s hair, the boy swatting her hand away with a large smile. Tuffnut was making an announcement with his goblet raised. “Hiccup says he’s treating us to the Three Broomsticks this weekend!”, Tuffnut exclaims, to which Hiccup elbows him saying, “I never said that!”. The long-haired boy just cackles, Hiccup’s voice drowned out by cheers all over the Slytherin table.
Astrid watches them from behind her bangs, a small smile creeping at the corner of her mouth. Beside her, Snotlout groans, upset about the results of the House Cup. She doesn’t admonish him for it, she did see how Snotlout tried his hardest flinging bludgers back at the Slytherin Beaters, which were none other than the twins.
“Ugh, I’m gonna smack that gleeful smile off of Tuffnut’s face, I swear it!” Snotlout growls beside her, slamming his fist down on the table. Astrid rolls her eyes at that.
“We can’t do anything about it. We lost the moment Hiccup got that Golden Snitch.” Astrid replies coolly, grabbing her goblet and sipping from it. Snotlout looks up at her, having plopped his face flat on the table after his sudden declaration.
“You know what, Astrid? I’m actually surprised you’re not raging right now." Astrid pauses from her drink as she returns her gaze on the boy at her right. "You scored so much points! The twins couldn’t even make a clean shot at you.” Snotlout drawls out, continuing to eat his meal gloomily.
Astrid sets her goblet down, her fist clenching slightly. “I am angry, Snotlout. I just don’t need to slam my fist on the table like an idiot.” She fires back with less venom than usual, her mood having damped her usual fieriness.
Snotlout shakes his head. “You totally slam things around when you’re angry Astrid, don’t even.”
Astrid huffs, flips her braid over her shoulder and crosses her arms. “Whatever, Snotlout.” She replies, looking down on her nails.
“Ahhhhh damn that Hiccup. Why is he so overpowered? He’s like one of those Green Eyes Black Dragon that Fishlegs keeps talking about, damn unbeatable guy. Can’t believe I used to heckle him around back when we were first years, now this asshole just gives me a smug grin whenever I see him, you know? Like he’s trying to deliberately set me off….”
Astrid drones out the rest of Snotlout’s rant. Hiccup this and Hiccup that, even her friend (she’ll never admit that to Snotlout, ever) is talking about him. Gods, he’s such a thorn on her side, isn’t he?
She looks at the Slytherin table again, Hiccup having stood up from his seat and giving a little speech about how they were definitely going to win next year’s House Cup. The Slytherin table roars again, Hiccup ending his speech with a smile and lifting his goblet to his mouth. Tuffnut and Ruffnut cheer in unison, chanting “Butterbeer! Butterbeer!” repeatedly. Hiccup shakes his head with an exasperated grin.
From the Slytherin table, Hiccup’s gaze shifts from his housemates, to the table farthest from Slytherin’s side, seemingly looking for someone. Astrid doesn’t realize she has stopped breathing, back going rigid as she held her watchful eyes on him
Then, Hiccup’s emerald gaze slides on hers, face softening, his smile turning more shy than gleeful.
Astrid stands then, hurrying away from the table and into the doors, ignoring Snotlout’s calls. She walks briskly, all the way to the Gryffindor tower, and all the way to her room where she promptly crashes on the bed.
With red cheeks and an uneasy stomach, she curses Hiccup to Hel.
---
She used to be the wonder girl of Hogwarts. At least three years ago.
She used to be the talk of the four houses. Top of class, excellent duelist, best Chaser ever, model student, whatever. House Slytherin couldn’t even hold a flame to House Gryffindor back then, completely humbled as they lost year after year against Gryffindor. She’d always been confident and headstrong, never failing to display very high aptitude in any subject, even Transfiguration. She could even say that Headmistress Gothi watched her.
Until Hiccup, the boy whom she thought as irrelevant for the longest time, the very un-Slytherin boy who sucked at casting spells and was easily pushed away. Too weak to fight back, too awkward to make himself new friends. The boy kept to himself, staying away from House Slytherin's clique even though he was pureblood and from a noble house.
But then something had changed when news of Valka’s death spread throughout the Wizarding World. Even though they were complete strangers, Astrid still felt a deep sadness for her. She was her idol after all, there weren’t a lot of Aurors who were women. Drago Bludvist was a terrible enemy, and the entire Wizarding World is too afraid to make concrete measures against him. Astrid swears that once she becomes Auror, she will definitely bring Drago to justice.
Hiccup had changed then. At first he seemed jaded and soulless, but his character had definitely changed. He had a cold look in his eyes every now and then. He had started to retaliate against the ones bullying him, although it didn’t always ended up prettily.
But that Hiccup was only temporary. She supposes Toothless had something to do with it, the Nightfury dragon hatched by Gobber (who probably got the egg illegally, now that she thought about it). The Care for Magical Creatures professor was incredibly weird, if Astrid may say so herself, and she’s friends with Fishlegs—but she supposes Hiccup being Gobber’s helping hand was a good thing that happened. If Hiccup wasn't in the library, in the pitch, or in the Slytherin common room, then he's probably at Gobber's hut.
And then history happened. As it turned out, Hiccup actually had more than enough capacity to decimate the top students in their game. To be fair, he wasn’t so bad at academics in the first place, already being the top student in Care for Magical Creatures and History of Magic even when they were first years. But to suddenly beat everyone, including Astrid in everything? That pissed her off.
And it wasn’t just academics. Duelling went astonishingly well for him, his casting quick and efficient, his duels lasting no more than a minute. They had alternated as Duelling Champion for the past four years. She supposes she should have expected that, he was the son of a noble house after all, with notable aurors in his pure bloodline.
(Weirdly enough, Stoick was a Gryffindor and Valka was a Ravenclaw.)
And then came Quidditch, when it turned out Hiccup was really really good at flying. Like impossibly good. He was the fastest Hogwarts has ever seen, with agility and precision that probably only gods should have. Odin above. She remembers the Ravenclaw and Slytherin match that ended 5 minutes into the game, when 4th year Hiccup suddenly went for an incredibly sharp dive, twisting and turning against the bludgers the Beaters sent to him, and then suddenly emerging with the golden snitch at his hand.
Perhaps what really hurt her pride the most was when Hiccup had been chosen Hogwarts champion. It had been her dream to take that role. She had wanted to make the Hofferson family proud by being the first in their family to be Hogwarts champion, or Triwizard champion if the gods let her be. She had been so nervous at the announcement, clinging into the hope that Hiccup wouldn’t waste his time with the tournament, Go to your damned dragon already!—she had thought that time.
And then the paper emerged from the Goblet of Fire, “Hiccup Horrendous Haddock III”, Headmistress Gothi read.
Of course it would be him. She remembers sitting frozen as the Hogwarts students roared to life, as students from each House began cheering his name as a display of rare unity. Even Snotlout had cheered then. But she couldn’t, she had went back to her room quickly and sobbed all night.
Gods, she despised him at that moment. She had been completely and totally overshadowed by a guy who used to be a nobody. If she thought she was confident in herself and her achievements, then she guesses she couldn’t anymore.
But Hogwarts was so happy. Especially when Hiccup tamed the dragons at the final test, having been able to make the dragons listen and cooperate with him to bring him the Golden Egg. She remembers how the Nightmare, the Nadder, the Zippleback, and the Gronckle all bowed to him, and how Hiccup had coaxed them, head turned away as he held the dragons’ snouts one by one. It was amazing, truthfully so.
She realized too, some point later on, that had she been chosen as the Hogwarts champion she may have lost the Final Test.
That didn't make her feel better at all.
--
She sighed, her breakfast quickly cooling as she ate slowly. Her mood hadn’t improved much from last night, but she was still reeling with her last train of thought at the feast.
She had chosen to sit beside Fishlegs at the Hufflepuff table this time. Beside her, Fishlegs eats pop tart after pop tart, all the while engrossed with his deck of cards that Astrid has no interest of knowing about.
“You should cheer up Astrid.” Fishlegs remarks, not looking up from his cards. Astrid tsks, punching Fishlegs’ shoulder lightly.
“I’m not sad.” She replies, sitting up straighter now, feeling self-conscious. She can't be looking all weak and gloomy now.
Fishlegs hums, unconvinced. “You’ve been sighing non-stop since you sat here. That IS a sad Astrid.” He promptly puts his cards down and looks at her with his beady eyes. “So, how are you? You know you can tell me about it.”
Astrid smiles at him, appreciative for his concern. If only Fishlegs ended up in Gryffindor and not Snotlout…
“It’s nothing. I’m just sad we lost for the third time, that’s all.” She replies easily, because it’s part of the truth. Fishlegs blinks once and twice. “Okaaaay.” Astrid doesn’t reply, choosing instead to toy at her braid.
“But normal Astrid would be more angry than sad.” Fishlegs says, to which Astrid raises an eyebrow.
“Does it have something to do with Hiccup?” He asks, out of a sudden, and Astrid abruptly looks down on her lap.
“No.” She replies a bit too quickly.
“So it is about Hiccup.” Fishlegs presses on, his tone lilting with excitement.
“I said no, this is not about him.” Astrid retorts, perhaps a bit too harshly. She bites her lip, suddenly apologetic. Beside her, Fishlegs doesn’t take offense.
“It’s okay, Astrid. The two of you have been toe-to-toe for the past three years, it’s like you guys are unspoken rivals. It must be really frustrating.”
Astrid nods. Not toe to toe, more like me completely losing every damn time which makes me a total embarrassment… She replies bitterly in her head.
Speaking of the devil, the Great Hall suddenly grows noisy as Hiccup enters the doors, a large group of Slytherin students at his back.
The two of them watch the crowd, her eyes particularly drawn to Hiccup as he sits on his spot, chatting animatedly with Ruffnut. Around Astrid, the Hufflepuff students start to chatter among themselves, particularly about Hiccup.
"He's so amazing and dreamy...", remarks a soft-spoken Hufflepuff girl to her right.
“And so good looking!” A particularly bubbly Hufflepuff girl responds to her friend who giggled in response.
Yeah…he is…Astrid thinks, only to catch herself half a second later. She slams a hand to her forehead in grimace. The two girls at her right suddenly quiet down to stare at her confusedly.
“You know, I get that you’re a Gryffindor and all, and Hiccup's a Slytherin, but he's actually not that bad.” Fishlegs tells her jovially, watching the Slytherin table with interest. "He's actually super cool! We actually played a game of Dragons and Vikings last week, and let me tell you, he's one of the best competitive gamers I have ever met." Fishlegs trails off with something like respect laced in his voice.
“I know.” She replies with a sigh, because it was true. Hiccup was amazing. No doubt. No amount of jealousy in her heart can prevent her from admitting that. Astrid plays with her bangs as she continues to watch the Slytherin table.
Hiccup was kind and passionate, she reflects. He loved dragons, and he also loved people. She knows she’s biased because of her house, but for a Slytherin, he’s really kind.
Hiccup was also level-headed and competent. His intelligence wasn’t of the bookish, theory-heavy kind, no, he was equal parts adept at both theory and application. He was a strong leader too, charismatic and genuinely good.
Sure, there has been skirmishes between their houses in the past, but Hiccup was never one to play foul. Indeed, he had a sharp tongue and knew where to taunt where it irritates the most. Snotlout has been up his face quite a number of times, has stepped over the line often enough. But in those times Hiccup just smirks at him, says a thing or two about how Snotlout should really brush up on his skills as a Beater, because clearly he could never land a single hit on Hiccup.
In those times her role has always been to pull an agitated Snotlout away and reprimand him on the spot. She would not make him go on stupid fights, both as a Gryffindor and a prefect. But also because Hiccup was a prefect too, and he could very well report Snotlout to the headmaster and deduct points from their house.
And then Hiccup would give her a smirk, the greens of his eyes twinkling with amusement as he looked at her. And the she would look away coldly, dragging Snotlout by the back of his robes.
And Hiccup was…well, Hiccup. He was handsome and tall and dorky and has a cute voice—
Oh my Thor. She stands up, cheeks flaming yet again, and stomps out the Great Hall. Fishlegs observes her curiously, wondering what got her so wrung up. He brings his gaze back to the Slytherin table and finds that he wasn’t the only one who watched Astrid’s sudden exit.
From his spot, Hiccup stares at Astrid’s retreating back, eyebrows drawn together in confusion.
---
Astrid paces the corridors, lost in thought. She wants to get away from all this, from Hiccup being the center of attention, from her thoughts on Hiccup, from her loss at Quidditch, everything. She hates herself for her jealousy, because Hiccup deserves the recognition he gets. But she also hates herself for losing and losing, because there would be no jealousy and loss had she just been worthy enough, had she just been good enough.
She thinks of her family, all Gryffindors, proud and brave and strong. Her parents would surely be disappointed in her, being at the 2nd place all the damn time.
She bites her lip frustratedly. She wants so badly to get out of this mess, to prove herself to be an equal to Hiccup and to redeem herself as Gryffindor’s star student.
She’s so lost in her thoughts that she failed to notice an incoming set of footsteps, not until the person was in close enough proximity. She composes herself suddenly, standing straighter and flipping her braid back on her shoulder. She raises her eyes slowly, black, then green, then—oh no.
Hiccup smiles at her, hands in his pockets. Astrid cannot find it in her to smile back, her heart still tittering from her disappointment with herself. That, and the nerves in her stomach as she stared up at Hiccup’s face.
“I, uh, just wanted to tell you something.” Hiccup swallows, the apple at his throat bobbing up and down nervously. Astrid stares, transfixed.
“First, there’s the thing with the House Cup.” Hiccup starts, voice uncharacteristically unsure. Astrid nods along.
“Our house won for the third time, which I’m really happy for, but that meant yours lost so…no hard feelings, yeah?” He says and chuckles playfully. His smile quickly drops when Astrid doesn’t say anything in response, her blue eyes staying glued on his face.
“Uhm. Right. So.” She watches the expressions on his face, jumping from teasing to a sudden restrained panic, like he had done something very very wrong.
“Just…lately, some things have changed and I guess it has been kind of...weird for me.” He continues, holding her gaze steadily.
Inwardly, Astrid’s stomach drops. Oh no…he must have noticed that I’ve been cold to him for the past few weeks. And how I didn’t even congratulate him, and how I’ve been avoiding his eye since last night…
“But I guess I realized I shouldn’t think about it too hard, because really, I won’t lose anything.”
Oh gods no. Astrid breathes in shakily, preparing herself for the rightful accusation, because she was wrong, so utterly wrong about how she felt about all this
“I’ve decided that I should just tell you what’s been on my mind. For a while now.” Hiccup continues, voice dropping. He takes a breath to still himself. But Astrid beats him to it.
“I know what you think of me, Hiccup!” Astrid blurts out agitatedly, eyes pinched closed with fists clenched at her sides. In front of her, Hiccup’s mouth gapes open in shock.
“Y-you do?” He asks nervously.
“I do.” Astrid replies. “I know how what you think about me, and I can only imagine how hard it must have been for you.” She swallows, her hands flying to toy with her braid, while looking to the side. “But I’m really sorry, this is what I am, and you don’t deserve this…whatever this is…because it is wrong and I—“
“You’re right, Astrid! I totally don’t deserve you at all!” Hiccup interrupts which promptly stuns her to silence.
What?
Hiccup swallows again, one hand shooting up to rub at his nape. “I know it’s pathetic, only watching you from afar and never making a move, but how could I really?” He sighs, biting the bottom of his lip which totally doesn’t steal her gaze.
“How could I stop myself from liking you when you’re so amazing? When you’re so talented, and brave, and inspiring that I—” Hiccup suddenly pauses, looking away with flushed cheeks as he runs his hand over his hair.
Hiccup called me…amazing?
“I really admire you , I really do. And...I also think you’re beautiful.” He was looking at her when he said that, trying very hard to not to break his gaze away.
B-beautiful?
“I m-mean, of course you know you’re beautiful! But I just wanted to tell you that in my personal definition of beauty, I think you’re perfect.” He continues, cheeks seemingly getting redder at the second. “Odin Allfather, why did I say that?” He says as he winces to the side, messing up his hair once more with his left hand.
“But okay Astrid…I understand. You are right, I don’t deserve you. But thank you for letting me know right away.” His eyes had gone from embarrassed to sad in just a second. “It hurts but I guess I’ll just have to—”
“You’re wrong! I like you too!”
That stuns them both.
Hiccup’s eyes widen, his face in disbelief. Astrid was flushing now too, cheeks burning ablaze because of her sudden confession.
“I like you...It’s just that some things are difficult to accept, especially with you beating me at everything.” She breathes out, holding his gaze even if all she wanted to do was to look away.
“You don’t deserve my ill feelings, and I should just congratulate and support you.” She mumbles, shifting her weight left and right.
In front of her, Hiccup nods, hanging on to her every word.
“But I can’t help it too, you are all sorts of amazing, and you deserve everything. I know I can’t measure up to you but still…” Astrid trails off, wringing her hands nervously.
“I can’t deny that you look handsome and—“Astrid cuts off, too embarrassed to continue. Meanwhile, Hiccup couldn’t believe what he was seeing and hearing, his ears coloring a dusty pink at Astrid's words.
“Wait, so you weren’t rejecting me?” Hiccup asks her after a moment, voice softer and more hopeful. Astrid brings her gaze back up at his eyes then, confused.
"...what do you mean? Why would I reject you?" She says back to him. They stood frozen for a few seconds, both unable to think of an appropriate response.
Oh gods. Hiccup was supposed to be confessing and I just--I just-- She shifts at her feet, wringing her hands together while keeping her gaze to her feet. In front of her Hiccup scratches at the side of his head, looking at her with a lop-sided confused smile.
"Um, shall we start again?" Hiccup asks her, moving a little closer. Astrid nods and looks up once more to find his emerald eyes looking back at her.
"I like you Astrid. I have liked you for a long while now and we're already on our sixth year and I still haven't invited you out on a date." Hiccup exhales, chuckling nervously. Astrid hmms at that, the corners of her mouth twitching upwards. Hiccup catches her smile and visibly relaxes giving her a wide grin.
"Tomorrow's the weekend and if you're not going home yet, I was hoping if we could hang out in Hogsmeade together?" He asks expectantly. Astrid chuckles inwardly.
"Sure, why not. Your treat." She replies, trying to be cool, but the weird feeling in her stomach has come back.
Hiccup beams at her words. "Great!" He says a bit too excitedly. "I mean, wow Astrid, what a way to take advantage of my heart, huh?" He replies playfully to which Astrid rolls her eyes.
"I mean, you might as well add me to the list of people you'll have to treat for a Butterbeer tomorrow." She retorts with a smirk. Hiccup rubs his face with a groan at her reply, mumbling, "Those twins, I swear..."
She laughs softly at him, watching as Hiccup tried to give her a glare that was completely ruined with his smiling mouth.
They stare at each other for a few seconds, comfortable in the silence that followed Hiccup's confession. Then, Hiccup steps closer and holds his hands out at her, to which she looks at questioningly. Hiccup just gives her a smile and waits for her to put her own on his.
And when she does, she immediately notes how Hiccup's hands were calloused and warm. With long fingers that curled easily around hers, her smaller ones wrapped delicately in his hold.
She's sure she's blushing from her ears to her cheeks. She hopes Hiccup wouldn't notice.
"When I said that you were amazing and inspiring, I was dead serious you know." She nods and bites her lip, waiting for his next words. "I didn't understand what you meant when you said you can't measure up to me, because I always thought I was trying to catch up to you."
She blinks at Hiccup then, perplexed at his line of thought, not when he was literally unbeatable and everyone looks up to him. "But I guess that's something we'll have to work around, I guess? I will try to understand you, even if right now what you said doesn't make sense to me." Hiccup continues, green orbs locked on their hands, his thumbs running over her knuckles. But Astrid was staring at his face, lost in the earnestness of his voice and his emotions.
Suddenly, she feels a weight slowly rising out of her chest, like a burden was slowly being lifted off from her. Her heartbeat thunders on her ears, so fast and steady as she took in the boy in front of her.
"I want to get closer to you, if you'd let me. And then maybe we'll...I dunno...holdhandsorsomething..." Hiccup mumbles the last part embarrasedly, but Astrid caught all of it. She chuckles at him, untangling one of her hands to lay a punch on his shoulder. Hiccup grunts and rubs at the part where she hit him, his "What now?" being choked up by his laugh.
"That's for beating me in the finals." She says, smirking as she placed her hands on her hips. Hiccup shakes his head at that, his grin seemingly plastered permanently on his face.
They hear several voices from the end of the corridor, signifying that breakfast in the Great Hall was over.
"So...see you at the Great Hall tomorrow morning?" Hiccup asks her, hands back in his pockets. Astrid hums out a "Sure" while pretending to look at her nails.
"Okay. I'll see you then." Hiccup finishes right before a crowd of students emerge from the end of the corridor. She watches him as he fixes his tie before walking.
"See you." Astrid says over her shoulder, Hiccup looking back at her one last time with a grin, before facing forward to find his house members.
She breathes out an easy sigh this time, her feet moving automatically to go find her friends at the Gryffindor common room. She fixes her bangs, feeling the heat from her cheeks simmer to a comfortable warmth.
And just like that, Hiccup's words build up a considerable part of her confidence back, and Astrid feels headstrong once more. She failed to tell him that she has also liked him for a while now, just as he did, but she supposes they have all the time.
For now, she has a date to get ready for.
---
Ending note:
And that's my first ever HP AU! Hope you enjoyed it.
This was written as a character study for Astrid, because let's face it, she will definitely have inferiority issues given her competitiveness. I think it would be interesting to write how would Astrid feel when the spotlight is taken from her--but make it HP universe. Oh and, I have a soft spot for Hogwarts AUs even tho Rowling is shit af.
To be completely honest, a big part of the reason why I wrote this was because I wanted to prove the point that Hiccup is definitely Slytherin lmao.
*Green Eyes Black Dragon - hope you guys got this reference, haha. I was referring to Blue Eyes White Dragon, the incredibly overpowered card in Yu-gi-oh!

Comparing the Woman in White to John, Sam and Mary/hindsight notes.
S1 motivations vs. S14/15 endgame.
Episode Notes:
Written by: Eric Kripke
Directed by: David Nutter
A long post, so I will put it behind the cut.
Lawrence, Kansas
We begin our tale with Mary bringing Dean into Sam's nursery to say goodnight. John enters the room, and in a nice bit of short-hand, he's wearing a USMC (United States Marine Corps) shirt, showing John was a soldier.
There's a shot of Mary and John in a picture. We already know they're married, so why is it here?
Mary thinks it's John in the nursery, only to find him asleep in the living room in front of the TV. (again, a connection to John's past, he's fallen asleep watching a war movie)
Something that'll become a continuity issue, later in the show: Mary's many years of experience being a Hunter, only to not recognize the flickering of lights as a sign of trouble.
Of course, Mary's wearing a white gown, (white is usually seen as a pure color/ of purity, but in this instance a connection to the Woman in White/see Jess later)
Mary's dead, and everyone involved is scarred for life.
The look on John's face, as we finish the Lawrence sequence, is that of a broken man, who's seen something that will eat away at his mind.
Stanford University Present Day (2005)
Okay, the first image we see of Jess is her in a nurse's costume, white with red trimming. Jess also has medium length curly blond hair. Guys, she looks like Mary, especially in Mary's death scene (white gown, covered in blood).
We focus in on the picture of Mary and John for visual shorthand, confirming this is a grown-up Sam.
We establish Sam is "scary" smart, has aspirations of becoming a lawyer, and has a job interview on Monday.
Jess: "Knock 'em dead on Monday." laying it on thick, Kripke.
Sam: "What would I do without you?"
Jess: "Crash and burn."
*smooch*
Damn you, Kripke.
Night scene, and holy shit, why do Sam and Jess have so many plants? Why doesn't future Sam have plants in the bunker, you know, something low maintenance?
Dean, why the fuck can't you use the door? Or a phone?
From the get-go, Dean's cocky, suffers from eldest sibling syndrome, and is a shameless horn-dog.
Sam: "He's on a Miller time shift." See, when I first watched the pilot, years ago, I didn't realize this was Sam implying John was a drunk. These things would just fly over my head.
Sam wants to make a point of including Jess in the conversation, of being honest. And yet, the moment Dean says John is on a hunt and hasn't returned, that honesty goes right out the window. More on that later.
Sam and Dean's exposition dump in the hallway, a part of me feels it's an odd way to catch the audience up to speed, while the other part of me knows this is how families argue when they spend most of their time biting their tongues. Sam especially seems the type to mull over his thoughts, storing away comebacks for the perfect moment when they'll be most effective (like later in the episode). Also, it's been years since the brothers have seen each other (we're told later it's been at least 2 years since Dean bothered Sam), they're so icy towards one another.
Sam: "You think Mom would've wanted this for us?" we'd find this out later in S4, but, no. Funny enough, maybe if Mary shared her knowledge of Hunting, something more could've been done (foreshadowing).
Dean: "What're you gonna do? Just live some normal, apple pie life?" Dean, if you'd only taken your own advice, we could've avoided S6.
Sam, paraphrasing John: "If you're gonna go, stay gone." Well, that's only very emotionally manipulative. It does, however, remind me of the U.S. military’s views on those dishonorably discharged, and since John raised them as "warriors", it's not a stretch to think, in a time of crisis, John treated his sons as soldiers.
Dean: "I can't do this alone."
Sam: "Yes, you can."
Dean: "Yeah, well, I don't want to."
This exchange, this vulnerability from Dean, after his initial introduction of being a cocky asshole who hits on his brother's girlfriend, shows just how much of a facade Dean's attitude is. In the end, he's a kid scared of losing his Dad.
It's this vulnerability that convinces Sam to listen.
Come the fuck on, "I can never go home." after we establish Sam left John and Dean, left Hunting behind, and was told to never come back (home). KRIPKE. YOU'RE *not* SUBTLE.
2 years, Dean says, since they last talked. Either Sam entered college late, (20 rather than 18) or Sam and Dean kept in touch even after Sam and John's blow-out fight.
Again, Jess pries for more info, and Sam changes the subject. Nope, that’s not gonna bite him in the ass, at all.
Jericho, California
(insert biblical/wrestling reference here)
We meet monster fodder, I mean, some random dude, who tells his girlfriend Amy over the phone he can't see her that night. He slows down to a stop and picks up the Woman in White.
Anyway, another example of a young woman with curly, medium length hair in a white gown/dress. I mean, her house even looks a bit like John and Mary's old place.
We get a brief, blurry shot of the Woman in White and her kids. Sorry, but if you're familiar with the legend of her/La Llorona, it's easy to see where this is going.
Oh, and whatshisface is dead.
Chips and soda. Breakfast of champions.
Sam's being a real sassy bitch about how Dean and John get their funds. I get it, world-building for the audience, bit it shows just how passive aggressive Sam is in these early seasons; Dean's clearly playing moderator between Sam and an absent John.
Sam: "Black Sabbath, Motorhead, Metalica? It's the greatest hits of mullet rock." Sam, it's not Dean's fault you have poor taste. Shut your cakehole.
Sam: "Sammy's a chubby 12 year old." or, it's what a big brother says to his infant sibling to calm him down, oh wait.
Monster bait's name is Troy. Yeah, I don't care.
Dean sassing the officer and Sam stomping Dean's foot. Yep, they're brothers. This interaction is where their chemistry really starts to shine through.
Amy and her friend are peak mid-2000's goths/emos, good lord.
Dean's "I told you so" smart-ass look as the friend shares the rumors in town, he's such an older sibling.
They... they never tell Amy what happened to her asshole boyfriend, huh? Well. Sucks for Amy.
Researching on a public library computer, fucking hell. (nothing wrong with that, I’ve worked in a public library, but they’re doing super-secret Hunter’s stuff in such a public place)
Have it paused on a photo of Constance Welch, the Woman in White, and the article mentions her husband's exact line of work; associate manager who works the graveyard shift at Frontier auto salvage. Gives me shades of Bobby, who also lost his wife under tragic circumstances.
A mother leaves her child unattended, comes back to check on them, tragedy strikes. Or, so the story goes.
Dean confronts Sam about living a life of willful ignorance, and even asks if Jess knows the truth. Sam makes it clear she doesn't and he intends it to stay that way, as Dean sarcastically quips, "That's healthy".
Really, the more I think about it, the more S6 feels like the inverse of S1; Dean tries to live a normal life, Sam comes stomping in to rain on his parade. Lisa is kept largely in the dark about Dean's past, and gets hurt because of it.
Dean: "You can pretend all you want, Sammy, but sooner or later, you're gonna have to face up to who you are."
Sam: "And who's that?"
Dean: "One of us."
Sam: "No. I'm not like you. This is not going to be my life."
Sam thinks Dean's just talking about Hunting, but Dean means more than that, he means family. One of us, Dad and me, a Hunter and a Winchester.
Sam: "Mom's not coming back." and so on about how he doesn’t even remember Mary, doesn’t share John’s obsession.
Dean: "No chick flick moments." Dean, dude, bro, you're the one who started this by breaking into Sam's place like a dramatic bitch, and then proceeded to give life/relationship advice. It's already a chick flick.
John's room being covered head-to-toe in case notes, only to come to the obvious conclusion it's the Woman in White. But, Sam said, because of the salt line, John was worried. Now, as far as I can remember, John was never a target of this spirit, so, I think he was paranoid about Yellow Eyes. After all, John had notes on devils/demons up, too, so maybe. I could be wrong.
There's something amusing about Sam and Dean's first duo Hunt, one without John, includes one of them getting arrested. Just, how rare that happens in the rest of the show, compared to how many laws they break daily.
Sam talks to Joseph Welch, who seems to wear the same clothes as Bobby. Also, Sam looks like a giant standing next to him.
Joseph lies to Sam's face about his and Constance's marriage, and it takes Sam a moment to work up the nerve to call him out on it. Or, it's Sam losing his temper. They're dealing with a murderous ghost, after all, and this guy wants to hide the truth.
Sam's done with lying witnesses, and now he's making fake calls to the cops. Gloves are OFF.
So, it's revealed John's purposefully leaving Sam and Dean clues, the journal, and the coordinates, but won't outright tell the truth.
Sam: "I'm not unfaithful. I've never been." See, Sam, that's only in the cheating department. You are, however, keeping Jess in the dark about dangerous stuff. Can any relationship with such big lies every be a faithful one?
Again, the imagery of the flickering lights. A standard in the show later for when a ghost's around, but considering all the visual parallels between the Woman in White and Mary, I think it's intentional.
That CGI of the ghosts vanishing was kinda shit, though. So is the sound of water swirling down a drain, I'm now just thinking of a toilet.
Dean: "I'll take you home." and there, in an episode where the ghost is afraid to go home and face the consequences of their actions, Sam too must go back to Jess.
Sam discovering Jess' body on the ceiling, as the room's engulfed in flames, never fails to give me chills. Hot damn.
Post Episode Notes:
While the pilot is a treasure trove of world building, plotting of character arcs, and chemistry between Jared and Jensen, it still doesn't make up for the fact it's bookended with 2 women getting fridged. Mary and Jess don't get to be characters, only fuel for man-pain, and argue with me all you want, but Mary's send-off in S14 is far superior to what she got in the pilot.
I remember seeing Kripke discuss how many drafts they went through while writing the pilot, and it feels like that at quite a few points. Like maybe the sheriff was to get more time, or Troy's father, who I believe is a cop, would've been more vital to the plot. And Amy, who'll spend who knows how many weeks and months putting up missing person posters for Troy.
I believe Kripke also said they'd considered killing John at the end, rather than Jess. I think, and this is pure speculation, the more they went into the lore for the Woman in White, the more they knew Jess had to die. I don't like it, wish they could've done it different, but it fits the story they wanted to tell.
The Woman in White, John, Mary and Sam, in hindsight
It's a retcon from S4, but if Mary was honest with John about her past as a Hunter, maybe they'd have a better chance with fighting Azazel. It's tragically paralleled to Sam not telling Jess about his own past, which may have prevented her death. And while you could say Heaven and Hell would still have their way, and shape Sam and Dean the way they want to, I'd like to think, given the chance, free will could prevail, And, look at how often keeping secrets is framed as one of the worst things the characters could do to each other?
Additionally, if John had been honest with Sam and Dean about what he wanted them to do, and what kind of danger they were really in, maybe Sam wouldn't have left Jess alone.
Thank you for reading this monstrosity of a meta, I hope you enjoyed/found it interesting!

This wasn’t planned, but i actually had some free time so i decided to spend it by coming up for a little column, where i’ll give you “My Two Cents” on something... so today we start with the 2018 Superstar Shake Up*
From Smackdown to Raw:
Jinder Mahal: First move in the Shake up and a very predictable one because usually WWE loves to switch secondary champions between SD and Raw and they did that with Mahal but not with Rollins as i thought while watching the beginning of the show...because Jinder lost the title to Jeff Hardy who got then traded to SD the following day. Mahal on raw could be a good move if he stays away from the Universal title picture.
Riott Squad: Since their debut, they didn't do much and maybe moving them to Raw could be a good move if they also get to be treated less like a women's job squad and more like a serious treat for the division. Ruby and Sarah could have some good matches with the likes of Sasha, Bayley, Alexa, Ember and even Ronda, while Liv is still very green for me but actually showed some sights of improvement in the squared circle
Sami Zayn and Kevin owens: Another predictable move and it makes sense storyline wise that they got picked up by Stephanie to punish Angle for his actions as GM. Now it will be interesting to see what they are gonna do with them: keep them as a tag team, going singles but still friends, feuding with each other like old times. Many options and potentially a great move for Raw
Breezango: Personally not a great pick for Raw, which actually got his tag team division weaker after the shake up but we will see why later. They defeated the Bar on Raw but personally i don't feel like WWE wants to give them more than just a random win in and there, but i hope they can rebuild them and make them more legit.
Natalya: Nattie did her time on SD and it's a good move to send her to Raw, where she can work with everyone and help the newcomers. She will 100% work with Ronda in a couple of weeks and potentially it could be a good match.
Dolph Ziggler&Drew McIntyre: well...this came outta nowhere because i wasn't even expecting Drew to be on Raw and watching him joining forces with Ziggler is kinda weird but i'm sure in the next weeks they will give us a reason why they are friends. Many people see in them the new “Shawn Michaels-Diesel” duo but Ziggler wishes he could be as good as HBK and Nash can say the same about McIntyre. No matter what will happen to their team, they are both two very solid picks for Raw and McIntyre going full heel, maybe with his old gimmick, would be pure gold. Also #BringBackBrokenDreams
The Ascension: I'm happy they're still employed with the WWE but i feel like their stint on Raw won't last too much...
Baron Corbin: Could this be Corbin's big break after losing the MITB Briefcase last summer? Personally it might be, he is the kind of athlete that WWE loves and with a good booking he could become a big star. He still needs to improve in the ring but in the past we had the Great Khali as World Heavyweight Champion so it's not a big problem. I can already smell Corbin facing Reigns soon
Zack Ryder: i'll say the same i said about the Ascension, but personally they have the possibility to bring back the team of Hawkins and Ryder and i hope they'll do it because it could be a good addiction to the Raw Tag Team Division. They'll never win the titles again but at least it's better than what they would do as singles.
Mike Kanellis: he deserves more than he did in WWE. Kanellis-Bennett is a great wrestler and i loved his TNA stint as the Miracle. WWE can bring him back to at least the level where he could be a good midcarder rather than a prestigious jobber. If his wife Maria will come back on screen (which i doubt, because she has a daughter now..congrats btw) i think it could help him a lot, they could do what Zelina Vega and Andrade Cien Almas (even tho Almas is better than Bennett as a wrestler) did on NXT
Chad Gable:Quite a shocking move because i never thought they would split him from Benjamin, but i see it as a very interesting and wise move because now we can have an American Alpha Reunion or having Gable going to be the “new Kurt Angle” kind of wreslter and Gable is such an underrated performer who needs the spotlight and the chance to have a big break.
Mojo Rawley: I see Mojo in the future as a good midcarder, he is an ok performer and personally i like him but sometimes he gets to much shit from the fanbase. I'm not saying he is or he will be an excellent performer, but at least he needs a chance to prove his doubters wrong. He seems to have some charisma and mic skill, now he needs to show something workrate wise.
Bobby Roode: Last but not least wrestler that went from SD Live to Raw, we have Bobby Roode and i think it's finally time to turn him heel and bring back the real Glorious One or even the IT Factor Roode we saw on Impact. He is a great pick up for Raw and he can do basically anything and he will do great Stuff for the red brand. Raw got indeed Glorious...
From Raw to Smackdown Live:
The Miz: What a lovely time for Miz to get drafted to SD Live when Daniel Bryan got back in the squared circle. Miz on SD can easily be the star of the brand i predict him to win or the MITB or the title by the end of year...but first he might have to substain a few kick from Bryan...
Jeff Hardy: As i said in the Raw after mania, i hoped for Hardy to be splitted from his brother matt so they could do their stuff and sending Jeff to SD is a great move because you have a guy who can work with anyone and they have a always ready uppercard for any occasion when you need one. Also Jeff bring some star power to the brand for the casual fans
Absolution: With Paige being the SD GM, it made sense for Mandy and Sonya to get drafted to SDLive. And also it made more sense to send them to SD after the Riott Squad got sent on Raw.They won't do much to be fair, unless we get some women's tag titles.
Samoa Joe: Huge move: Joe on Smackdown will finally have the right place where he can steal the show and being the good old samoan submission machine. I'm already hyped for the possible matches with the likes of Bryan, Styles and even Orton, as Joe said he always wanted to face Orton. Great idea from WWE to send Joe on SD, i'm less happy that i won't see him in Turin in may but that's life and he is more important for SD rather than Raw.
Sanity: Another very solid pick up for SDLive because they bring so much stuff for the show: EY can be a main eventer-uppercard, they could have Dain do the same, they could go for the titles thanks to the freebird rule. Nikki Cross with them is a bit of a bummer at the moment but i'd say there is a reason why she hasn't yet called up on the main roster and she will be probaly called up around SummerSlam. Let's hope she won't get repackaged because that won't help her at all.
Big Cass: i honestly don't like Cass, he is not my kind of wrestler but i'll give him a chance to prove me wrong because so far he has done nothing on NXT and Raw and this could his moment to show something rather than he is 7' tall. Let's see if he will do something with Bryan
Asuka: With the shake up, they made Asuka's move to SDLive official and she can be easily the next champion and get some payback for her loss at Mania with Charlotte. Asuka vs Becky is actually one of my few personal dream matches that could be huge with the right scenario and booking.
R-Truth: another guy i'm happy he's still employed with the company but at this stage i see him retiring soon and becoming a road agent/producer for SD Live. He won't bring much to SD as an active performer.
Luke Gallows&Karl Anderson: the division on SD live is now very stacked so i don't see them being involved in the title picture soon, but i see them reforming something WWE called once “a very famous club in Japan” with someone who is at the moment the WWE Champion..too sweet right?
The Bar: I hope they get to be tag team champions also on Smackdown but personally i predict them to split soon and give SD two new single wrestler who basically can do anything.
Zelina Vega&Andrade Cien Almas: outta nowhere, we get Zelina and ELLLL IDOOOLOOOO on SD Live and this is huge for the blue brand. I loved what they did on NXT and i see them doing the same on SD Live, but this time with the likes of AJ Styles, Daniel Bryan, Shinsuke Nakamura and even more. My god...what a time to be alive...NXT lost a big name but SD gained a future star.
Overall:I feel WWE did a good job with this Shake Up because they actually balanced their roster, gave us some new fresh faces, some new fresh feuds and also brought back some interest to SD Live, that in the last weeks felt a bit stale and boring to watch. NXT suffered the more but they are the brand where they are supposed to build people from scratches and send them to the main roster when they are ready for Raw and SD.
*In this shake up analysis, i haven't included they guys and girls who debuted(Lashley made his return) on Raw and SD during the AfterMania episodes and i already talked about them

As a child she had a fat grey kitten she named Charcoal who followed her everywhere, she had the cat from kitten all the way until the day it died when it was about 15 years old.

today i got up kind of late. it’s weird. when it’s time for bed i don’t want to/can’t lay still and fall asleep. then when it’s time to get up i don’t want to get out of bed. it’s really good.
i mostly stayed in my room today... i watched the final pam at asher’s request and that was pretty great. mom and dad went to costco but i didn’t really feel up to going out in public.
mother did not bring home anything i could cook, so i had hummus for dinner. i have three different kinds: red pepper, jalapeno, and, i think, chili. i had tried making mac and cheese for dinner and that didn’t go very well. i don’t think i had even half of what i made.
after dinner i took wiley out for a quick walk. i know he always wants to be out for a long time, but i just haven’t really wanted to go too far. in the next-door neighbor’s yard we found a pigeon. it did not try to walk or fly away when we trotted up to it. before i could stop him wiley was inspecting the bird. the bird still didn’t try to get away. by the time i pulled wiley back i saw a line of drool across the pigeon’s wing.
i was practically still on our driveway so i went back and rang the doorbell until mom answered. i told her there was an injured bird. she said so? and also “don’t touch it, they carry diseases” (typically untrue) then she went and got dad. dad came out and looked at it. it walked up to us and stood between me and wiley and dad. he said it was probably sick and to leave it alone so it could die in the wild a free bird. i watched it walk out into the street and sit there. when no cars came it picked itself up and walked the rest of the way across and sat in that neighbor’s yard under a car.
i told myself if it was still there when wiley and i got back to the house i would do something. this was... a mistake, probably, but in the long run don’t think it would have mattered. it was on randy’s driveway when we got back. i went inside and looked at some pigeon shelters in the city. then i tried to talk dad into letting me get the pigeon and set up a box for it.
he argued with me about whether or not it’s better to die at home or go to the hospital, when you could potentially survive. it felt weird because i’m not normally the kind of person who wants to live longer. but like, if something is wrong and you can do something about it, you should? while dad kept talking i went and got a box and went in the garage with mom complaining behind me from her room. he told me my box was too small and picked up a bigger one and put the rest of the hamster’s padding on the bottom. i carried the box across the street and the bird was dead.
i kind of crouched next to it for a minute, then i went back home and told dad it was dead. he asked “really?” and it was like... why doesn’t anyone believe me when i tell them things? first it was mom and her coworkers in the office about whether or not that broken web site was working or not, it took them like a whole hour to confirm it was in fact not working. waste of my time.
dad came over to check for himself and poked it with a rock. then he rolled it over to the rocks next to randy’s driveway and left it there. i suggested we bury it in the backyard, it wouldn’t be difficult, and he said to throw it over our backyard fence into the ranch land so the coyotes could eat it. he ended up leaving it on the rocks though.
when we got inside dad made a joke about the bird and my mom cried out with “i told her not to do it! i TOLD her not to do it! i can’t believe she brought that thing in the house.” i stared at her from the living room. dad told her the bird had died.
i don’t feel... guilty about the bird dying. if i had rescued it earlier i think it would have died around the same time. i wouldn’t have been able to keep it alive overnight to take it to a wildlife rescue. i feel guilty because, i didn’t help the bird until it was too late, just because my parents said not to. how far does the “not my business” philosophy extend? if i saw someone getting mugged, would i step in? how could i help in that situation except by calling someone else for help? would i do it even if it put me in danger?
i hope i know the answers to those questions, but the uncertainty leaves me feeling kind of cold and empty. especially since i just did what mother said AGAIN, even though i knew it wasn’t what i should have done. i let dad talk me into thinking i could just let the bird disappear and not worry about it if i didn’t see it again. he was like, it would still be alive in my imagination if i didn’t see it die. i told him i wasn’t that young any more and he said he wasn’t either but he still wanted to think that way.
“it’s just a pigeon,” one of them said. “yeah, so let’s go,” i had replied. at least, i think i did... i was thinking it.
i cut my face in the bathroom. just ripped a whole chunk of skin off. i didn’t even manage to scratch out what i was annoyed about. even though i was proud of how well my chin and neck and cheeks were healing from last time and how i’d managed to not pick at them for days at a time. impulse is weird.
anyway, i spent most of the evening training some pokemon on the side of watching tv. i noticed that my game still seems to be acting very strangely. i was going through the elite four over and over, and you have a 1/8 chance of getting whatever challenger comes to battle you for the champion title. but i got the same guy 7 or 8 times in a row. i lost count. the first three times i was like, ok whatever, it’s happened before, but by 5 i was weirded out. then it kept happening.
i’m gonna see if the date rolling over again fixed anything. everything else seems to be working normally... wild pokemon are randomized, my festival plaza was fine if a little unlucky today, the time in the pelago was passing normally. now that the date’s changed the pelago didn’t suddenly decide i had been away for over two days, so that’s a good sign.
no matter what i searched about it on google i could not find any explanation for what happened. no one else on the entire internet has said it happened to them. the list of possible glitches in the game didn’t mention anything like it. given the date, it may have been some sort of prank? but that would have been mentioned somewhere too, i’d think.
diogi isn’t doing well at all. she can’t walk anywhere. she can’t even stand up for more than a few seconds. dad put the baby gate up at the bottom of the stairs so she couldn’t try to climb them any more. while i was downstairs having a snack around 9 she was crying and barking every now and then and looking over at me. dad’s gonna take her to mike, hopefully sometime next week. i don’t think she just has arthritis any more. jake had really similar problems with his back legs toward the end, and that was a neurological thing. i thought about investing in doggy wheels, but i don’t think she’d be able to adjust and our house isn’t really built for something that wide. and she would probably only need it for a little while...
i think eve’s leg is sort of starting to bother her too. she was looking at it earlier and she’s been licking at it now and then when she doesn’t pay much attention to her other back leg.
i heard a song about someone mourning their dead dog earlier today and i burst into tears.
i had meant to drink some alcohol but i kind of got wrapped up in watching game grumps and forgot to continue my intake after the first, like, sip. diogi just fell down in the hallway twice.
last night i had miserable dreams. i don’t know why i didn’t want to get up in the morning after an... adventure... like that. i was at a school for space wizards? i wasn’t really participating in classes, since i couldn’t remember where i was going long enough to get anywhere. there was one student who was trying to end the universe by summoning a black hole. i was trying to stop him or alert the authorities but i couldn’t focus... i kept getting lost in the halls and trapped in non sequitur cutaways. one exchange really stuck out in my memory but the image going with it is kind of nonsensical. i was looking at a computer simulation of two black holes orbiting each other and everything around them was falling in. a teacher said something about different black holes and i said “there’s only one void.” like it doesn’t matter which hole it falls in, everything ends up in the same place.
i didn’t really care about what happened to me... but i knew i had to stop the black hole wizard. not everyone wants to not be alive. at the end i think i was laying against a wall on a cobblestone road, but it was on a set of pillars. i was looking at the teacher i had teamed up with, and the boy was floating next to the road, and the black hole was there. it was breaking apart the road. i was so tired. then i woke up.
dang... i got a boost to my chances at the lottery for today and i got the lowest prize. then i got “lucky” and got another try, and got the second lowest prize. nice.
i don’t really have anything else to talk about right now. i’m not feeling too well. i was stressed out about some health stuff, but it seemed to go away by the time i had lunch. now my face just hurts. well, the cut hurts. i haven’t been able to get comfortable all day. my feet can’t seem to turn quite right and also the texture of the carpet and plastic rolly chair was bugging me. and my hands and arms are super dry because i’ve been washing my hands too much and my wrists and knuckles are cracked and bleeding. that’s pretty uncomfortable too. lotion doesn’t seem to be helping.
time for bed. laying down has been miserable the last few days. something in my gut isn’t working properly and it just... doesn’t feel good to lay down. and my back always hurts even when i do lay down. and i always have to get up 45 minutes after i go to bed because i can’t finish going to the bathroom the first time i try. that’s been happening 4-5 times a week for like two months. and i still get too nauseous to eat a few bites into my meals at least once a day whether i remember to take my meds or not.
judging from the stuff that’s still happening, despite the pain being mostly gone i still feel like something is wrong and it’s not going away and it’s making everything really difficult. if i’m out with wiley for too long it starts to kinda hurt.
i dunno. i’m going for real this time. no matter when i start writing these journals and how quick i think i’ll be, i always seem to finish just before 1. and then it takes me until after 2 to fall asleep, and then i try and fail to get up at 9:30 the next morning, and so it goes.

You Never Told Me That This Was The Last Time...
Martin stood at his bedroom door staring at the two beds that were placed on either side of the room. One on the left for him and one on the right for his brother George. It was just the two of them ever since they were kids. Martin was 19, George was 20. Martin's bed was with a thick blue bed cover that was thick enough to be a blanket as well because of the design. He had his favourite gray bed sheets on a queen size bed. Two thick pillows, dark brown head board that was simple in its design. Rectangular with two small rectangular spaces on either sides of the head board. He had a night stand on his the right hand side of the bed which was small, and it had only one drawer and a bigger space underneath for his lotions, deodorant and cologne. He used to keep his wallet in his drawer and his smartphone on the night stand itself, right in the middle. Next to it on the right corner of the night stand was a long lamp that could bend to any direction he wanted it to. Martin used to like pointing it to the bed to read his books. Having the perfect arrangement in his sides of the room was part of his OCD. Just near the door was the shared and vast table where they used to do their homework together ever since their childhood. That's where George would help Martin with his homework. On the left hand side of Martin's bed was the long stretch they knew to be their cupboard. Martin had his side for his clothes, George had his on the right side. In the middle there was a space for the flatscreen LG smart TV and a compartment underneath for the decoder and under that their Play Station. They always bought a new one when it got out because their father was rich, so they could.Over to the right side was George's personal space. George had a green bed cover with the same fabric and design as Martin's but he had dark blue bed sheets and two pillows. Also a queen sizes bed, same head board design. He also had a night stand but on his left side of the bad cause the head boards were on either side of the walls with the foot of each bed directly opposite to one another. George was laying in his bed with the remote in his right hand, flipping channels. He settled on the crime channel. He was in a white shirt and gray boxers with checked blue boxes on them. He had white socks and his jeans were on the floor next to his shoes. They both had mats next to where their beds, same white colour for uniform. That's where they would place their house shoes.
George turned his head and acknowledged Martin standing at the door. George had brown eyes but was chocolate brown with no facial hair. He had fake dreads for a hairdo and a boxed forehead. He had thick eyebrows but well shaped. He had long eyelashes for a guy but they complimented his eyes. He had a long face and pronounced cheek bones just like Martin cause they both looked like their dad. But each of them had a hint of their mother's characteristics. Martin had his mother's dimples and George the thick eyebrows. George flashed a smile when his eyes met with Martin's who was now walking towards his bed and laid in it."I hope you haven't spoiled the toilet cause I was planning to take a shower." George said. Martin shrugged and sat back with his back on the head board. "When you have to go you have to go, man." Martin replied while blushing with some embarrassment."I knew it." George laughed and sat up to cross his knees and returned his attention to the TV cause there was another development in the case he was watching. Martin lifted his right hand and showing his palm replying, "It's not like you've never taken a dump in your life. Mwanzo you the way your dumps are like lethal reactions?!!" and he gave a sly wink. George laughed and said, "Kwenda."They both started watching the show. They were concentrating on the case of the lady who was found dead in hour house as they had a list of suspects based on the chain of events with the deceased's fights with the neighbour because the neighbour is the one who found her. The deceased lady had been dead a week. Martin turned his dark eyes on the bed and remarked, "It must really have sucked for this mama to have died and decomposed for a week before the neighbour had found her. It's like she died like an animal.""Me I think the neighbour did it cause they were always seen when they were fighting." George responded but his eyes were fixed on the screen. Martin started rubbing his rouged face and picked up his phone to check the messages that were coming in on Facebook. He wasn't always an active member online because he always believed in the meaningful face to face human interaction. Something that no social media platform could imitate. This was his time to be online cause he had just finished his A levels and he was free as a bird. He was studying at GEMS which was relatively new and he was just waiting for his results to be accepted in the University of Melbourne, Australia. George was in the middle of a gap year, taking his time before he did a serious degree in Architecture just like their father. Martin wanted to do sports medicine and it was always his dream to be an athlete's doctor or a sports team doctor, which inspired him to pick medicine as a degree once he got to uni. Even if they were both sharp minds, George had a habit of picking on his younger brother simply because he was younger. They both had muscular build like athletes because they were also fit for sports and loved watching football."Wewe, it's 18:30 has the match started?" asked Martin who was an Arsenal fan, even though they weren't playing high profile games anymore like the Champions League."Your team is still useless. I don't know why you like watching them. You know we're gonna win." George replied teasingly with a bit of a chuckle. George was a Chelsea fan. But Martin never wavered. He was more of an emotional think than George. But he was still a logical thinker. George was the opposite; a logical thinker who was still somewhat in touch with his emotions.
George switch the channel to super sport 3. It was Arsenal versus Chelsea. The game had just started. There was complete silence in the room for the 15 minutes that the commentators were introducing the line ups for each team, making last minute remarks and predictions for the game. Both teams were on form in their last 5 matches. Arsenal qualified for Europa and Chelsea was doing better because they were sitting at number 4 in the premier league table. This was a big premier league match."You think Liverpool's gonna win the league? The way they're always messing up at the last minute? Me I don't want City to take it." Martin commented while staring at George who was still glued to the screen cause I was thinking about the line up and formation of his team. Martin started fiddling with his phone and then returned his gaze to the screen just before kick off. George could tell from his periphery that Martin felt snubbed, so he gave Martin a serious look and said, "I don't think they can screw this this time around like the other seasons. Otherwise Klopp will definitely get sacked."George pinched his nose and then sniffed because he could feel a sneeze coming. He had hay fever. The watched the game for a few minutes and it seemed like an evenly matched game with equal possession. No real threats to goal were made from either team cause their defences were doing a good job so far, 35 minutes in. Martin sat upright with his legs crossed just like George. They had habits that rubbed off on each other. George increased the volume and adjusted the screen mode to enhance the colours of the screen to watch the match more clearly. He changed the audio to cinema mode and it activated the speakers on the sides. There was a sub-woofer at the bottom and now the game was loud enough to make their room feel like they were in that very football stadium. Then after a couple more minutes, it seemed as though Chelsea were really making a threat towards the Gunner's goal. Arsenal sat back in defence and the red shirts were everywhere. But Chelsea was in control now, the sudden change in possession showed their dominance this early in the game. George smiled and tilted his head and said, "What did I tell you. Now your guys just have to sit back for long enough to make a mistake and there will definitely be a goal in the first half.""You just wait for the counter." Martin assured with a confident smile. For the last remaining minutes of the first half, there were counters from the Arsenal side and the game resembled a ping pong match with the ball mostly staying in the midfield while not staying in each other's Ds long enough to build a solid play. And that's how the first half seemed like it was meant to be. The commentators kept commenting about the transfer window. They discussed a possible departure of Arsenal's star midfielder Mesut Özil, and they were brainstorming about some of the clubs he could go to to keep his career intact. Eventually, the game reached halftime and they were passively watching the commercials while commenting here and there about the teams and their first half performance.
"Can you imagine being a doctor on your favourite team? As in seeing the players everyday and earning tickets for the perfect seat to watch the game? I'd probably sit with theplayers, like the subs." Martin was thinking out loud and he was day dreaming the thought of that becoming his reality one day. George let out a smirk and replied, "Eh... that's not something I would want to do even though I loved my team. Okay... if it was about watching the matches live, I'd definitely do that, but that's about as much commitment I'll be making as a fan." then he smiled. Martin suddenly lit up and added enthusiastically, "We should go to England together one day and watch at least one match. Aussie only have rugby going for them. They don't get to fully appreciate football the way we do.""Well, it's not like Kenya's doing any better with their premier league. The British just rubbed off on us." George pointed out. They watched the halftime analysis coming to a close with a little bit of senseless commercials about phone carriers and data plans. A little about Car insurance companies and winter sale of SUVs. And then, the unthinkable happened... the lights went. That's definitely something they weren't expecting, and no sports fan would ever want that to happen. They both let out a sigh at the same time. George slapped his right palm on his face asking, "Aww, man. What are the odds?" and Martin was in silent agreement.Martin's face was focused on the fabric and patters of his bed while he was rubbing his bare toes. Then he said softly, "I don't know if I wanna go.""Where?" George asked because it peaked his curiosity."Aussie," Martin replied, "I know we were supposed to end up in Melbourne together to make living and accommodation easier. And I know people call me smart and all, but I don't know whether I'll make it being in the country for the first time on my own. I mean, you've travelled a lot like that trip you made after A levels. But what if I fail the first year of medicine? I'll just become another statistic.""Lots of people flunk out of uni regardless of what course they're studying, but I don't think you'll be one of them, that I'm sure of. Medicine is obviously hard but you have tobelieve in your intelligence and yourself. Otherwise you won't have a very good time there." said George in a solemn tone. He fidgeted a bit and then added, "I know you're supposed to depend on me as your older brother but some day you're gonna have to do some of these things on your own because one day, someone else will look up to you and depend on you. And you have to be ready for that."And he was right. Martin had a lot of good things going for him. He had the whole package of an ideal millenial of his time. Intelligence, looks which George had too and the determination that fueled his hunger for knowledge. That's why he was always reading so much. They were both readers but Martin was more studious. And reading was a habitthat was instilled in them by their parents, Boris and Linda Scott. A rare surname in Kenya but synonymous with Luos. Their parents always advised them on the importance of searching for knowledge because they themselves were very successful. Which explains the reason why the two brothers were born and lived in comfort, the best that money could buy. The house they were living in was designed by their father Boris decades ago, but it looked timeless. He made sure he imported majority of the materials that went intothe building of that house. It was the envy of their neighbours' average houses. They had 4 bedrooms inclusive of the masters bedroom. It consisted oft he masters bedroom which looked like a presidential suite of a 5 star hotel, Jacuzzi and everything. There was always a spare room which was converted into Boris' office. The third one was saved for their sister Stacy who Linda was expecting. So the parents thought it would be better for the boys to share a room and the only girl to have her own for privacy. Boris made his big break when he was contracted to design the new Tollo Hotel near the CBD. He met Linda when she was one of the chefs who was supposed to work at the said hotel. She became a house wife after they married because they had enough, but she always wanted to go back to be productive.
Since George and Martin weren't so far apart and there was only a year between them, they learned to be best friends. They were dressed the same as kids and they did everything together, even when they were getting into trouble. George was particularly protective of Martin in school to stop him from being bullied. And they were never bothered by the deafening sound of silence because they were never that talkative, these two.Martin snapped out of his daydream and felt something rubbing his right shoulder, but he couldn't see anything there. He felt it again and saw nothing, again. Then he noticed a bright light piercing the tinted French windows. He heard the echo of a woman, faintly in the background saying, "I think he's waking up."There was a blurr and he opened his eyes. The first thing he noticed was a nurse standing on his right side with a yellow sponge. She was wearing blue scrubs and there was a tag with her name on her left breast saying Melinda. He scanned the room and noticed he wasn't in his bed. He was in a hospital bed that was adjusted to keep him upright for the bath the nurse Melinda was performing on him. There was one large window on his left hand side of the room and it had a mesh to stop the mosquitoes coming in at night but still givingMartin fresh air. The chills that were entering the room suggested it was mid morning. The sun kissed his skin but it wasn't hot enough to keep him warm. There were two black chairs right under the window for visitors who would come and see their patients. He looked straight ahead and noticed a door ajar and it led to what looked like a bathroom and toilet. Melinda gave him a warm smile and said, "Welcome back. We almost lost you there. You're a lucky kid.""What?""You're in Karengatta hospital. Do you know who you are?" she asked and gave him time to absorb the state which he just woke up to."Yes.""Good," she congratulated him, "What's the last thing that you remember?"He was silent and overwhelmed. Noticing the confusion in his facial expression, she excused herself to go get the doctor. 5 minutes later, his uncle Daniel, Boris, Linda and the doctor walked in. Linda locked eyes with Martin and hers were immediately filled with tears but she was smiling. "Oh thank you God!" she cried and rushed to his left side blocking him from the sun and breaking the wind that was coming in. She was light skinned. She had dark eyes just like Martin. She was wearing a stylish cream top with pink rose patterns.her coat was mustard as well as her frilled skirt which reached just below the knee. She wore cream flats because she needed to wear comfortably for a 6 month pregnant woman. She had a pearl necklace and bracelet to match. Her slender fingers stroked Martin's forehead as he looked across the room and remembered his father and Uncle Daniel were there. They were standing beside each other. His father was with a serious face as always, but not so serious to hide his relief that his son was awake. Boris was dark chocolate. He had distinguished white hair and a receding hairline. His hair was always shaved, short enough to hide the receding hairline. He kept a moustache that was stained with a few gray hairs, and took care of it's length but he had to shave the whole beard because it was always growing wildly and rapidly. He was tall with an average build, not too muscular but his age showed. He wore a white t shirt and a turquoise tie, no coat, he hated coats and only wore them when he was going in for an important meeting. He had a Breitling luxury watch on his right hand and loved luxury watches for the novelty of it."Looks like you came around just in time." he said, "We were almost giving up on you."Linda laughed, still tearing up and staring in wonder over the miracle of Martin finally being awake. From his father's statement, Martin was putting the pieces together and thought he had been out for a while and they were probably going to pull the plug.Uncle Daniel stepped forward and took slow steps towards Martin and began explaining to him what happened. "You're in our hospital Martin because you had an accident. You and George were in the Lexus and George lost control of the wheel veering you off the Lenana road hitting the trees. I think the car was skidding because of the wet road cause it was raining that night. The oncoming vehicle was a lorry with bright lights that must have blinded George and that's how you went off the road. You jumped straight through the windshield and hit the trees. The car's been written off."This was Daniel Scott's hospital and he was the leading surgeon there. But when he heard about Martin's case, he made sure that Martin got round the clock care. He would check on him everyday and send various specialists to tend to his needs while he was in a coma. His mother Linda would visit everyday and talk to him hoping he could hear and remember everything once he woke up. She never gave up on him. The night before he woke up the three of them talked to the top doctors of the hospital and they were debating whether they should pull the plug. Linda vehemently opposed it and Boris didn't want to argue because she was Martin's next of kin. They'd agreed to wait one more day and do more tests for brain activity and they were supposed to make a decision in 24 hours. Now Martin was awake, struggling to recollect the last moments before he ended up in a hospital bed with all these wounds. The morphine started wearing off and he noticed he was scarred in many places. Now is when he was aware that his face had cuts and bruises because of the impact of the windshield Daniel said he broke through. The third doctor was doctor Steven Onyancha, the leading specialist on brain injuries who was assigned to this case by uncle Daniel because Daniel couldn't operate on family. He had frame-less glasses and was very dark with a symmetrical beard. He was also bald and was wearing a white coat and green scrubs.
"Don't stress yourself if you can't remember everything because this is common in cases such as yours." said the doctor with a deep voice. "Your memory will come back eventually but not immediately. Just give yourself time. Your family can help you remember and offer you the social support you need at this time."Martin remembered the white lights of the lorry before veering off the road and remembered George driving. So he asked, "What about George though? Can I see him?"Silence pervaded the room and he was wondering why everyone kept quiet. It didn't take long for Linda to march out of the room bursting into tears. This alarmed Martin because he became confused. "It's okay Steve, we'll take it from here." said Boris, to which the doctor nodded and left the room with the nurse. Daniel sat down on the chair closest to the bed. He leaned in and clasped his hands together, as if he was planning to say something sensitive. Boris walked to the window and leaned his back on the wall next to it. Quiet. Arms crossed looking down on the ground. George, Martin thought. Something happened to George."Martin, you've been in a coma for a little over a month now. You barely survived." uncle Daniel explained. "Where's George?" Martin insisted. He looked at his father who was avoiding his eyes now. Then he stared back at Daniel who said this in the softest manner, "The car on the drivers seat was crushed beyond recognition because of the roll. George was stabbed by the metal of the car and bled out. He died on the impact."He died on the impact. Those words kept ringing in Martin's mind. He was so shocked and dazed that he forgot anyone else that was in the room when he entered a trance. He remembered he and George dressing to leave the house. Then he remembered stealing the car with George to go to a party without permission. He remembered the party and having too much to drink with hazy memories about what could have happened that night."You already buried him?""Yes." his father answered. There was silence for at least 20 minutes. Martin had more questions than answers now. The whole time he was talking to George he was dreaming but he wasn't so sure that it was real because it felt real in most parts. Now he's woken up to hear that George is dead. As he replayed the dream in his head, he could remember the words that George told him in their room. "I know you're supposed to depend on me as your older brother but some day you're gonna have to do some of these things on your own because one day, someone else will look up to you and depend on you. And you have to be ready for that."
Who the hell was he talking to?

Secret Empire #0
This was the big one folks. A giant sized 0 issue, which apparently wasn’t even the first one you were supposed to read.
There are 3 other prelude issues to this, which I won’t bother collecting. One from U.S Avengers, where it seems Captain America shook things up with Roberto DaCosta. Another in the Thunderbolts book, I think. And finally his own Captain America: Steve Rogers book, where he finally revealed his outward villainy, apparently.
...Before I go any further, I should mention to anyone not in the know, that since the Pleasant Hill event ended and Steve Rogers triumphantly returned with his youth, Nick Spencer left us with a nasty cliff-hanger. And that was the fact that, Kobik (the cosmic diety that brought him back) was being manipulated by Red Skull.
This only spelled bad news for Cap, as Spencer spent an entire year setting up the idea that Steve was never a genuine American Hero, but really a Secret Hydra Agent, deep deep undercover for years. [Come on, man. Really!?]
Now.. this is old news. People hated Captain America: Steve Rogers #1 the world over. Then others saw through the whole ploy when they stayed on for Steve Rogers #2. Since then, I think Marvel audiences have been split between hating on this entire plot thread, and others finding it downright brilliant.
I... have avoided it like the plague. Brian Bendis had the chance during Civil War II to hint at us that Cap wasn’t being genuine, or secretly harboring evil thoughts or whatever, and he didn't. He left Spencer to his devices, who handled a pretty well written Epilogue to Civil War II.
That very same epilogue hinted at what’s to come right here in Secret Empire. Steve Rogers and Sharon Carter were in power once again. And this time, as Top Cop, he was going to make sure he was going to follow through with his “true” mission.
[Give me a break man. He’s obviously gonna break out of this. But in the meantime, Marvel audiences are beyond frustrated at the straight up blasphemy and downright betrayal that Spencer has created for the Captain America fanbase.] And I think that’s a fair Pre-Assessment.
As for this issue. It was really well written. It’s very dense. There’s a lot going on. And some of it is a bit much. And I was definitely left feeling bummed out by the end of it. Steve Rogers is definitely breaking my heart a little bit, here. But I’d also like to think I understand where Spencer is going with this. And I can only hope that he’s going to deliver a major redeeming factor somewhere down the line, towards the end of all this.
In the mean time. Let the Secret Empire begin.
[SPOILERS]
Warning. This was a very long issue, and I don’t want to leave a single detail out. So the rest of this review may be tl;dr. I’ll do my best to move the points along though.
We start with a “Flashback” from 1945 in Japan where Captain America secretly reported to his Hydra boss, Kraken. [Already, I’m not in love.]
Along with Kraken is what I thought was Sir Isaac Newton from the Sorcerers Supreme book, but I could be wrong. Anyway, they tell him that the Allies are about to use a ‘Cosmic Cube’ to rewrite reality itself. And not to believe them when he falls into their will. {To make us believe that all those years as an Avenger, he was somehow being manipulated.}
Through some really nice visuals, we see Cap’s heroic history unfold, even though he now believes that it was in-genuine. That is to say, he believes his “true mission” is to betray them.
After that strange flashback, we’re treated to an interesting Character Page.
This book is going to host Steve Rogers & Sharon Carter at S.H.I.E.L.D. Command [obviously], both Ironheart AND Iron Man in Michigan..
The Ultimates and other cosmic favorites like Hyperion and the new Quasar, (which was kind of nice to see.) The Guardians of the Galaxy minus Drax will be around.
At New York City, we get to see the Defenders in action for the first time, which is pretty exciting. I’m no stranger to Luke Cage, Jessica Jones, Iron Fist and Daredevil, but to see them finally get the Team Treatment and recognition since Bendis wrapped up New Avengers vol. 2, is really nice. Also with them is Spider-Woman, Doctor Strange, Cloak and Dagger. The Uncanny Avengers will also be featured in this book, which I enjoy. [Guess I’ll be collecting those tie ins.] Did I mention The Wasp is there too? Janet Van Dyne. Not the new one.
And of course this event wouldn’t be complete without some Hydra Forces such as Baron Zemo and his Army of Evil.
Now... Before I continue, I noticed a significant lack of ‘Actual’ Avengers. ...is Waid staying out of this?? Does Spencer not care about them??
What of Clint Barton? Won’t he have something to say about an evil Cap in Power?
Well. We’ll see I guess. I’m getting ahead of myself here. Apparently Captain America: Sam Wilson explained his absence from this event already. =/
Once we finally get into the issue, I’m already confused. I’ve already missed something. There are apparently 3 red dots on the trouble map, which S.H.I.E.L.D. has failed to stop for months, and now it feels like the end is nigh.
[Also, I’m completely thrown off by her old appearance in this issue, meanwhile in Infamous Iron Man, she’s totally young and fresh looking. I could’ve sworn she looked the same in CWII’s epilogue as well.]
Well, anyway, we get to see Captain Marvel, the Ultimates and other Cosmic friends take action in space against the Chitauri.
[You would think Al Ewing would set some of this up for Ultimates 2 tie-ins, but he definitely has some other pointless things going on in his pocket of the universe.]
As the Ultimates fight in space, Ironheart, and apparently Tony’s mobile armored A.I. is able to fully work alongside her. [As if Tony was never in a coma or something.. Hah!]
I have no idea what they’re doing. I wish I could say what they’re analyzing. But outside, New York is burning.
This is where we find that The Defenders are up against Nitro, who has nothing but vengeance on his mind since Pleasant Hill, which happened more than a year ago at this point. [Where was this before?]
“Know that it is their sins you die for now!”
The action is pretty awesome on the ground and in space as Sharon worries with a pensive Steve from the Helicarrier. The panels are scattered and frantic, although aligned neatly along the page.
Narrations build things up in past tense.
“This is how we were betrayed.” The mysterious story continues to unfold.
Apparently in space, the new Quasar dies, or we are lead to believe that, as a huge alien swallows her whole.
From the Helicarrier, Cap commands, “We need that shield!”
[THATS what Riri and Tony A.I are working on!!]
{I have a weird theory that Tony’s A.I. slacked on getting the shield up in time, but I have little-to-nothing to back up that theory.}
In New York, Jessica Jones definitely saves the Defenders from getting blown up by Nitro, who just suicide bombed the area.
It almost seems as if something fatal happened to her, but we find that is not the case the next time we see them.
Cutting further to the chase, Riri and Tony A.I get the shield up, but in the process Steve basically locks the Ultimates out of Earth.
The Unity Squad touches down by the Defenders, where Rogue mentions something about guessing they’re Avengers again.
[I know this team got rocked recently, but I forget why. Do they know that Steve is Hydra..? Or just don’t trust him?? I gotta read up on them again.]
For a minute it looks like they all won. [But as I said. Steve locked the Ultimates out of Earth and, he makes this betrayal apparent soon after.]
He even allowed his own Hellicarrier to be brought down by Hydra Agents who invade the place.
They all arrive before Steve and Sharon and aim their guns at her. He orders them not to shoot and to stand down, which confuses Sharon.
...This thing gets all over the place after that. With Carol and the Ultimates finding out that they’re officially screwed and left for dead as more and more Chitauri waves come for them, we’re given an interesting caption. “Stage One. Alpha Flight Space Station.”
Then we see that Zemo is outside of New York on a speedboat with Blackoutm as he holds the Darkholde book. [Ah come on man. That’s just pandering to casual S.H.I.E.L.D. TV fans...]
Zemo and/or Blackout initiate Stage Two, which is putting New York City in darkness, isolating it via a Darkforce Dimension.
We see Doctor Strange try to stop it, but it is unknown to us at this time if it did anything.
Then, we get to see our ‘Actual’ Avengers, the Champions and Spider-man move into action, as everyone starts to notice that something is up.
Tony A.I. calls “All Avengers” into action.
“If you can hear this, your services are required immediately-- We are under attack.... This is threat level red, Defcon Infinity Stuff here, people-- We need you to get to Washington D.C.!!!”
On the last page, we see Hellicarriers hover above the White House and a caption read, “Stage Three. Washington D.C. Objective: Hydra takeover. Mission: Underway.”
-To Be Continued!-
So yes. A lot is going on.
And the end was very exciting.
But what the Hell am I reading Spencer??
And why did Marvel think this was the direction we needed to take???
Now. I’m not gonna complain until I get more of a feel for what’s going on here.
So far this is definitely different.
But, I feel like Marvel is definitely throwing all of the wrenches in the cogs at this point, because they’ve promised apparently that this will be the Last Event for a while. Thank God.
[I never thought I’d say that, because I love events. It’s what got me into collecting in the first place. But at this point, it’s clear that they’re a cash grab and not a story enhancer. And not for nothing, but none of these Universe-changing events hold any weight when we know they’re just gonna get changed again in 3 months.]
So yeah. In that regard, I am looking forward to wherever this event goes.
Because if Marvel inevitably hits the Reset Button again? It’d be nice to see them stick to a plan this time... And maybe.. Stop with the damn New #1′s.
...Until Secret Empire #1!
[This issue definitely felt like a #1...]
