the thing about barton and his own 'foil' as she should technically be considered, as she is technically the complete opposite of him in every way that matters, is that sumire [ whom i have talked about a few times on here, albeit briefly, so i will give you a brief refresher on her and that is that... her character eventually commits these killings based on the twelve main tarot cards in a deck based on them not fitting her idea of what 'perfect' looks like (kind of like barton BUT much different at the same time) ] and barton used to know each other as they were best friends as kids — even if it was only for a few years.
and as strange as this may sound, a broken promise between them was partially the catalyst behind what started her descent into feeling this need to 'judge' people, which is quite the coincidence as it may seem. because where do most of her victims end up dying? in these settings where she has set up these 'mock trials' for people. so, i know that i said i would talk about how barton had inadvertently created a monster a longgg time ago, but i now am sharing it with you all. because although one cannot blame barton fully for her actions as sumire, of course, has to take responsibility for them herself; but this did play a part in being a catalyst for her feeling all of this resentment and hatred for the world / people around her that led up to her first murder.
which, as you might have it, was the chariot: a tarot card that symbolizes revenge, willpower, and essentially tries to subconsciously put off this message that you are moving in the 'right direction.' i don't think it's so much just the promise itself though that makes this important — it's also that barton himself essentially forgot about the promise he made to sumire, as terrible as that may sound. it actually kind of gives you more insight as to what was going on in barton's mind as a kid because he basically made sumire promise him this: that, if he ever got on the 'wrong path,' that sumire would be there to show him a better one. and that she would attempt to reconnect with him if they ever got separated somehow / give him a sign of some kind that she was still there, so he could meet her.
and i say that this provides more insight because i haven't really gone into depth about this, but barton has expressed this idea in one roleplay on here. + that is that he didn't want to end up like this. however, regardless of that statement, there is no washing away of all of the heinous things he's done and he chose to do them anyway. i'm just thinking about how messed up it is that sumire, up until the point where she started her murders, had casually been searching for barton because the way in which his victims were found was vaguely remiscent of the way that wesley used to kill his victims. + this meant that he was definitely on the wrong path and she would eventually end up on the wrong one too.
#OF MONSTERS AND MEN: musings.#ooc post.#AHH... nothing like a little silent hill music to get the creative juices flowing y'all / hj JSJSJ no but it is has been surprising helpful#in helping me come up with more details about what the context was behind this promise that barton made to sumire and why-#she was looking for him in the first place / started these murders in the first place for whatever reason (': i guess BC the music does#give off a unique sort of melancholy and making up more aspects of sumire's character makes me feel a bit like that because-#oh my gosh... is it kind of painful to think about someone remembering they made a promise with another as a kid but the other person-#completely forgetting about this promise in all of the darkness that consumed their life. and i'm not trying to be cheesy by saying-#that i just literally have no other way to say it than that barton literally got completely consumed by his blood-thirst / this twisted#urge he possessed in which he wanted to basically exercise his control over other people like wesley had done to his own victims and it's#like it all came full-circle sadly and i say 'sadly' BC even now the last thing that barton wants to be is like his father#but the family resemblance is unfortunately kind of there regardless and sumire's own father was a monster NGL so it's like#OMG. ladies gents and non-binary pals we are not getting out of this one without feeling a lot of complex emotions jsjsj#tw: mentions of murder#tw: mentions of violence#tw: mentions of toxic family dynamics.

Just saw a post that was really weird about trans people and had a bunch of people attacking each other in the replies. For just people wanting to exist as a gender they want??? (And something about trans men being against feminism?? patriarchy stuff??)
I don't know. I don't look at conflict and stuff like that usually. Do what y'all want, have funky genders, respect others. I support y'all
My blog is inclusive of you guys. I understand how happy expressing yourself is. I got my name changed a few months ago and I am the happiest I have ever been
If you are against trans men, or trans women, or non-binary people, or people with weird pronouns, or anyone, then you can leave my blog
I am not gonna fight about gender with people, I will explain or answer any random questions about my personal experience as a trans man but I will not fight people
#rambling ray#i was staring at a bunch of trans discussion things because i was procrastinating a little until lunch#my mutuals and i think most people who follow me are all good#just deciding to make my stance on trans stuff clear so that people know they cna come to me#a lot of my friends are trans and non-binary in a whole lot of ways and i am glad to be the sort of trans big brother figure#i love all my trans younger siblings. how did i even collect so many

3.5 hours of sleep does crazy things to ones brain and by that I mean. Murderbot gender thoughts
#I need to sleep so I can actually DO THINGS tomorrow#[I typed some stuff here but I hated it and deleted it]#and also (like as an it/its user) its very refreshing to see a character who’s gender is just like. don’t care.#and have the lack of care be a tangible stated thing#like its definitely GOOD to have books with trans/non-binary charactwrs where gender is discussed more explicitly#but they always just make me feel vaguely uncomfortable lmao??#so it is nice to have a character who is STATED in the text not to have a gender#but to not have it be a whole big elaborated upon beating dead horse gender discussion#it doesn’t care. that’s it. it uses these pronouns because it does not feel any connection to human gender and doesn’t WANT to#I’m definitely not analyzing this as deeply or as well as other people can for many reasons (one being. I am on 3.4 hours of sleep at 1am)#but just as a genderless person it feels very natural and comfortable to read#it’s the sort of thing where yes if it got discussed more plainly in text then maybe it wouldn’t get misgendered#but 1) it is already so obvious and 2) it won’t even talk about it’s FEELINGS#it explicitly says it doesn’t care about gender at ALL. in what world is MB going to have an in-depth talk about it’s identity like that#also idk I think it’s interesting to have it humanized in ways other than ‘we gave it human gender’ you know. feels like a cop out.#have it fuck up big time like an actual person

omg mary kirby confirming that she intended lucanis* to be ace - between that and bg3's astarion (and my real actual partner), just cements my apparent fatal flaw of being a deeply horny not at all ace person who is constantly attracted to ace people first thing right out of the gate like "yes that one!!" like a cat that just wants only to sit on people who are deeply allergic to it XD (i'm so sorry you guys T.T) *and maybe bellara too? my 2nd romance plan lol
#personal#text post#dragon age#self discovery through video games once again#it's okay my partner is apparently only attracted to messy bi non binary people like literally all his previous partners have also come out#veilguard#lucanis#it does make his romance make more sense tbh#i do think it still has some pacing issues tho like he can be ace and we can just hang out together more#also a little bit of side eye of his sexuality not being part of his character like it doesn't have to be focus but it is part of him#i feel like they always reduce the characters down to archetypes a bit tho so maybe that's just a shorthand issue#also they've never really addressed ace or bisexuality in a thoughtful way in a dragon age game#like it's always been sort of clunky

Being transphobic is gender affirming care for conservatives
#i wanna make myself clear#i do not mean this in like a “the closet is glass” “crack the egg” sort of way#but rather the notion of gender as binary and reinforced by biological sex which is also binary would necessarily exclude everyone#nobody has “only masculine” or “only feminine” traits#nobody would fit into the gender binary#so in order to feel like they are included conservatives must invent an “other” who is excluded#and in pointing out the supposed non-belonging of the trans person the conversative can hide their own non-belonging from themselves#of course the other doesn't have to be trans people#they've just occupied that space for a while#and without trans people some other group would come to be the excludes other#which is something LGB/anti-trans queer folks should really think about because they're next on the chopping block#rare serious post#let's see how good tumblrs reading comprension is#trans#trans issues#trans rights

girl help I'm getting they/them'd by well-meaning people who don't know what a tomboy is
#oh gosh this is so important and well-said#and something I’ve run into a lot#the idea that if you don’t conform to your assigned gender you must be trans#is just. it misses so much nuance#so much possibility#and yet I do appreciate people trying to normalize and accept non-binary people#that just still has to include cis people who don’t perform their gender like they’re expected to#you can’t say gender != presentation and then sort everyone into boxes based on their presentation anyway#or heaven forbid their hobbies#let me do what I want#let me call myself a tomboy#let me be a girl in my way#let other people be their genders in their ways

SEEKING VALIDATION FROM THE 3D IS SOOOOO LAST SEASON
HEAR YE! HEAR YE! ladies & gents, boys, gals & non-binary pals, i present to you another post brought by urs truly, @bbrattywise : this post was ib: this reddit story
anywho, intros done, let's cut straight to the chase, i think the reason why most ppl struggle with validating themselves from the imagination is we're scared its "lying to ourselves" & its "being delusional" *red buzzer to both answers because those are FAR from right!!*
1) the imagination is REAL, realer than this reality in a sense that whatever u persist in the imagination will quite litreally materialise into ur 3D (because thats litreally how the law of assumption works. You assume in ur imagination/4D and it materialises into the 3D, ya get me??) So no matter what, ur dominant thoughts/assumptions (a.k.a ur dominant thoughts u persisted in ur imagination whether thats being tiktok famous or having ur dream yacht) have no choice but the manifest into the 3D.
2) u not feeling happiness/any sort of positive emotions when visualising/imagining living in end w/ ur desire ≠ it being fake. Because obviously, u having something = u being quite used to it so ofc u are not gonna feel all giddy everytime u think about it. Thats totally normal!! that is the same principle for experiencing "negative emotions". You experiencing any sort of emotion doesn't change the fact that you ALREADY HAVE ur desires in ur imagination, so chillax buttercup! you are not doing anything 'wrong'.
3)"but how do i imagine having my desires?" pls dont overcomplicate yall, i swear its as easy to do as it is to say. Basically pick what u want & acknowledge it being in ur imagination. For example, whenever i be stressing about the 3D i be like "oh yea, i already have it in the imagination which is my true reality" and go about my day. Its as easy as thinking, think as u already have it (because that is quite litreally the case). As Neville Goddard says "creation is finished" which i love falling back to whenever i am in doubt because once you've imagined ur desire, thats it. Thats all you gotta do.
4) find ways to make ur imagination ur fun place. When i started utilising the imagination, i was like "huh, wdym i can litreally imagine WHATEVER?!!" lemme tell u, the imagination is limitless!! It's like playing sims 4 without the restrictions put in place by the developers. You make DA MF RULESSSSSS!! Wanna visualise owning a pet dragon?? the sky's the limit!! its so fun picking things & living out ur imagination knowing that it materialises into the 3D regardless <3
the law of assumption (though a mundane, universal law) is such a beautiful thing to be aware of so utilise this information. Don't dwell in old circumstance because you're scared of change. Trust me, take this leap of faith and really have fun with the law of assumption. After all, its practically a life cheatcode, might aswell use it, right?

Hey i saw your tag on that post that a reply of mine got added to about the gummy worms, and i just wanted to apologize and say i agree. I had some trouble exactly phrasing what i mean to say there and i think i could have stated my joke better
Oh, this was unexpected- I really appreciate the apology and thinking about the joke! It's absolutely not a huge deal and I wasn't meaning to target you directly, it just happened to be the most recent/accessible post I saw for me to express that sentiment on, and the "you" in reference to the joke was more general "you" than specifically you, so no worries! Thank you for being so cool about the criticism
#the only reason it's significant to me is because I have a transfem friend who wants to go on E and I'm a transmasc who wants to go on T#and it gives sort of a personal connection to the issue of people forcibly labeling non-binary people as binary if they want to transition#and especially labeling non-binary amabs as binary trans women#so that sort of joke always rubs me the wrong way when I see it even though there's not that much of an actual issue to the generalization#sunny speaks

Silent Hill 2 is the greatest game I don't think I can unconditionally recommend to people. Because it is amazing, but its also about trauma, guilt, abuse (of adults and children) and how unhealed, festering harm perpetuates itself onto innocent bystanders. A play-through of it is a rough ride emotionally.
It also features this adorable little scamp with the excellent points.
Now, if you're at all familiar with Silent Hill 2 you're probably very well informed on what this particular meme relates to. But if you're not, and you want a primer - Dead Domain has created a video pointing out the absurdity of this particular fiasco.
youtube
This was, of course, followed up when trailer seasons came around and Naughty Dog released a trailer than seemed to depict a woman who didn't care for gender conformity, and CD Projekt trailer that indicates, let me check my notes... Ciri's appearance has changed slightly as she's grown older - also she's probably going to be the protagonist of the next game, as all variations of The Witcher always build to. This has lead to some truly amazing fan art, and also the greatest possible observation by @dyingnome
And this isn't a surprise to anyone who follows these conversations, I think it's worth talking about because certain events globally have emboldened these types (who always seem to be gulible enough to pay for a blue tick on X nee Twitter) - leading to them trying to shout out all other conversation on the medium. We are, in fact, at the point where they're admitting they are Nazis who don't play games.
Truly we have never had more confirmation that the people who aggressively campaign for a standard of cartoonishly over-sexualized as the baseline for female characters do so not out of a love of gaming, but rather because of overwhelming indifference to a medium they don't participate in.
@verilybitchie has recently just released an essay that focuses initially on disappointment with current trans, particularly non-binary, options in games, but also covers how we got there in terms of certain genres of games having been historically unwilling to to let go the male gaze.
youtube
This, of course, is not an excuse for the self-identifying Nazis etc, but goes a long way in explaining why your more normal friends might have a confused reaction, and highlights the kinds of issues in the industry that are still unaddressed.
Also, in case you're the sort of person who needs to hear it from a middle-aged or older white man:

David Tennant saying to transphobes and other bigots: "Fuck off and let people be!" ❤ 😊
David Tennant at the Angels, Demons and Doctors con in Germany, 5.5.2024 (from mandlebougie tiktok <3)
Fan question: I wanted to ask about like, maybe your relationship with like, gender and like, expression like masculinity and femininity. Because I've always noticed, like, even before you and Georgia became more like, vocal about trans rights, that you're always like, not afraid to show like, femininity. And that inspires me to embrace it too, though I'm a bit traumatised by it because I'm trans. I wonder, like, how has that changed over the years, if changed at all? Because I remember also reading something about, like, you in the nineties also being like, not afraid to become gay or something. Yeah. So I wonder, like, in now this environment with like more trans allyship and stuff, like, has that for you personally changed at all?
David: I don't know if it changed that is... I've hopefully learned as that, as that community has found ways of defining itself and has provided a sort of, you know, when I was a kid, the idea of being non binary wasn't something that existed, it wasn't a concept. And I've seen that emerge and people able to express themselves through that and it only ever seems positive as far as I can see. And I think that the kindof the weaponisation of trans rights, gay rights, well, actually, when I was a teenager, I remember gay rights being weaponized politically and that always felt ugly and nasty. And now we look back on that 30 years later and those people are clearly on the wrong side of history. And now there's a sort of similar weaponization of these topics being taken by mostly the right wing or a certain section of society trying to create friction and conflict and division where it needn't be, where it's just about people being themselves and not, you know, you don't need to be bothered about it. Fuck off and let people be! You know, it's just... it's that sense of just wanting people to be allowed to exist. And I think that they're, you know, that there are now ways of expressing gender, identity, sexuality that are more nuanced than they once were. And that only seems to be positive. If that helps people to know who they are and say who theyare and communicate to the world who they are. So why... I mean, my sense of that is that is all just we have to be..., you know, we're.. that's just common sense, really.

how do you feel about people who aren't of the same race as that character voicing that character? Also since you work in the cartoon industry and have gone through the voice acting hiring process yourself, is there some sort of code that says its discrimination if you say "only people who fit into this group/all these groups should apply"? (asking this in good faith i hope it is clear. This is really hard to phrase. To make where I'm coming from more clear, while I doubt i would ever get the chance to do what you're doing, if this one comic I make was ever turned into a cartoon, its very important to me for example that the main character who is a non-binary Chinese-American Jew be portrayed by someone as close to that identity as possible. Because to me, there are limited chances for some people to portray themselves wholly on the screen, let alone at all, and to take that opportunity away would be wrong. And I just remember as a(n older) kid it made me even happier when i'd find out people voicing the rare characters who share parts of my identity actually WERE of that identity. But on the other hand, putting more and more restrictions means less and less people can audition and there is such a small chance the perfect person will even find the role. And also I'm not sure if this counts as discrimination in hiring legal code.
it's tricky for sure! in a perfect world, it shouldn't matter, but there's a history of marginalized people being, well, marginalized and denied work for usually white voice actors who can do an impression.
i think there should be a push to get more marginalized voice actors to voice characters like them but also characters that aren't! let actors be actors
You're right in that the more specific the identity, the smaller the pool of actors. and in that case, i think it's good to put in the effort to find people who identify with the role as closely as possible, even if it's not 100%. aika's black/japanese ethnicity, for example, is based off of my own heritage but she's played by anairis quinones, a black/puerto rican voice actor. i felt comfortable casting this way because i feel like at least on my end, i can write aika accurate to my own experience and make sure anything having to do with her identity is handled with care. and i very much trust anairis to understand! and although they're not japanese, they do have an understanding of what it means to be black and queer, which aika also is.
it's a case by case thing for sure but i'm always down to uplift marginalized actors!
