So I already did Nacht the first time I did this ask game, and tbh I still feel the same way, so I’ll juzt post what I put back then here too 😁!

Nacht Faust

I had a bit of a time trying to write his first name 😅 since I could have either used ㄱ (which is somewhere between a G and K sound) or ㅋ (which is more of a K sound) so I went with the latter!

The words I chose for him were 밤, which means “night” and 어둠 and 그늘 which means Darkness and Shadow (these two words are mainly used when it’s difficult to see the person).

Now a “phrase” I associate with Nacht is 인생의 고락 or the sweets and bitters of life. Because Nacht has seen both the sweet and bitter parts of life (he saw the sweet when he was with the Grey Deer, and the bitter when Morgen died).

if you used your eyeballs or a screen reader to read my blog you would have seen that i in fact responded to her initially bc she was being wildly racist on a mutual's post & then over the next few days when people started screenshot dunking said, several times, "i don't think that continually screenshot dunking on this girl is necessary or helpful". note that i at no point made an epic stick figure comic about how i'm smart and she's dumb

the language being stripped of lore specific terms made it so much worse in retrospect. fr tho Davrin calling Eldrin "Uncle" Eldrin instead of Hahren, like it's okay Davrin you can use elvish around my Rook I won't judge :( I haven't romanced him does he at least call you vhenan??

I could get the use of 'uncle' if Davrin was trying to explain it to Rook who was not elvish (since all elves in this game seem to just instinctively know elvish) since it would make sense to make a connection between the dalish role and familial role for an outsider:

Rook - "Who are we seeing?" Davrin - "Hahren...Uncle Eldrin." Rook - "Hahren?" Davrin - "It's elvish - they're storytellers and caretakers in the clan." Rook - "So...not your uncle." Davrin - "Close enough. He raised me."

Does Davrin call you 'vhenan'? I could have sworn he did in the final love/petting over clothes scene but I did a look up because I couldn't remember...apparently its just my wishful thinking - but don't quote me, maybe it's only in a specific dialogue option? :(

That fact that I can't recall it off the top of my head is telling -> Solas calls Lavellan 'vhenan' so much its burned into my brain, the same with other endearments from other romances. I played as a shadow dragon elf so I was hoping to be able to say 'amatus' - didn't get to do that either.

Which is one reason that the romances in this game really fall flat for me. I loved how different characters had different endearments for you, it made it feel more personal! Bull with 'Kadan', Dorian with 'Amatus', Solas with 'Vhenan', Leliana with 'My Love', and Sera had a 'pick your own' that wonderfully reflected her character!

I assume they were trying to make the language more accessible for new players, but it was never a barrier for me in any of the other games? If anything it always made me more interested/curious in what was going on when I encountered a phrase that I didn't understand. It added to the idea that these characters were from different nations and cultures - they had their own languages and phrases that reflected that -> the world felt bigger because of it!

Even if I didn't understand something, the voice work was always so stellar that even if the exact meaning wasn't understood, I got the intent that it was being said with.

Best examples being Solas and the Arishok - I understand certain words and phrases of each language, but I'm not a translator like some very talented people on this website. Even if I didn't get what was being said I absolutely understood the intent from the emotion and nuances in voice work. Top tier example is Solas and Sera in DAI:

Solas: Our people used to be here. Sera: Pfft, you say that everywhere. Solas: It is more true than you want to believe. Sera: I bet, right? Who wants to think about stepping on dead elves. Solas: Din elvhen emma him? Sera: Oh, you felt that one.

The way that line was delivered was incredible. Didn't understand a word but you could absolutely feel the repressed fury of what Solas was saying - his disgust at what Sera said. Once again, Gareth David-Lloyd coming in with incredible voice work! <3

It's such a strange choice to just...remove that immersion - to have so little of it in-game. Does it require extra work to make certain that the characters language reflects their history and culture? Yes! But what it adds is so immense to the world. I can't imagine not having Solas call Lavellan by elven endearments or having Andrastian characters not say 'Thank the Maker!' or 'Maker's breath!' It was cool worldbuilding! Just like how we say 'oh my god' there's a Thedas equivalent that communicated the very same idea!

Hearing lore specific words and phrases makes me know that I'm playing a Dragon Age game. Playing DATV which severely lacks in those words and phrases made me realize I'm sitting on my swivel chair and looking at a computer screen.

how to keep motivation when language learning? i always lose interest a couple weeks after picking up a new language and i feel that starting to happen with my current one too

I try and find low-key ways to keep up the language until I’m feeling more motivated, and also try to incorporate my interests into the language learning.

For example, I’ve not been very motivated with Japanese recently. But I listen to a Japanese podcast to fall asleep, and I’ve been really into Sky : Children of the Light, so I’ve been looking for videos in Japanese about the game. I’ve also been playing stardew valley in Japanese.

I’ve kind of just accepted my interest in actively studying will ebb and flow, and it’s fine if I just learn a bit slower (taking breaks and then coming back to it).

I also find following lots of langblrs or studyblrs can help. Its a pretty supportive community and seeing other peoples excitement makes me more motivated.

Sorry if the answer isn’t super helpful 🙏 it’s super difficult to keep motivated studying for me as well.

not sure i understood the assignment but here’s my best shot.

They don’t get much time together nowadays and with luca no longer being a ducati rider, their time together has been scarce. Pecco can count on one hand how many times he and luca have had more that 5 minutes of peace, it’s always that one of them has a schedule and vice versa. Also with their garage’s being on two ends of the paddock they can’t even visit eachother between meetings for a minute or two. Which is why pecco has a plan, he knows luca’s meeting ends in 10 minutes and then he is gonna go straight to his trailer to change into casual clothes for the team dinner he has in a while. So, pecco is going to fake feeling unwell to get out of his meeting, he was p1 in both practices they can cut him some slack, and go to luca’s trailer(and ofcourse he already has a key).

It’s been 12 minutes since pecco has been waiting in luca’s trailer and exactly 2 minutes since luca’s meeting should have ended so he knows luca is gonna be here any second now. And just like that he hears the door opening and then the click of the door closing, standing up from the bed pecco goes to see luca who has his back turned to him and is taking off his shoes, quickly but stealthy pecco goes and back hugs him. He can feel as luca flinches but quickly relaxes and turns around.

“What are you doing here?”, luca asks with a smile adorning his face.

“What can’t a person visit his boyfriend anymore?”, pecco teases.

”Stop teasing”, luca’s face turns red, he always gets shy when pecco calls him his boyfriend.

Pecco cups luca’s face and raises it to meet his eyes, despite luca being the taller of the two he always had the ability to make himself seem smaller around pecco, they don’t know how long they stand there just staring into each other’s eyes and taking the other one in. It truly has been too long, but ofcourse the peace cant last too long because pecco’s phone starts ringing. Letting out a groan pecco takes out his phone,”it’s my sister”, pecco says looking at luca to see if he can attend the call, with a nod from luca he attends it.

Luca’s not even paying attention as to what pecco is talking about with his sister on the phone except that it is getting long and he’s getting bored just standing here, so like any mature person luca hides his face in pecco’s neck and starts leaving small feather light kisses there. He stops when he feels pecco gasp but when he doesn’t make a move to stop him luca just continues kissing from the bottom of his neck to his ear. Gently takes pecco’s earlobe in his mouth and grazes it between his teeth, can feel pecco’s breath stuttering and feels pecco’s free hand hold his waist to steady himself. Continues his ministrations for awhile and is just lost in the feeling of pecco’s body near him that he doesn’t even hear pecco end the call until a hand comes up to cup his cheek from where he was sucking a love bite near pecco’s collarbone.

“Are you done?”, pecco’s says trying to act like he wasn’t affected but was a bit breathless.

“Hmm. i don’t know”, luca says going back to kissing along pecco’s collarbone.

Just then pecco takes luca’s face and kisses him and luca can feel himself sigh into the kiss, it has been too long. They continue for awhile when someone knocks on the door of luca’s trailer making them break apart.

“Luca are you ready? The team is ready to leave for the dinner.”, luca hears his trainer say.

Clearing his throat luca says,”Yeah just give me five minutes.”

Hearing a ok from his trainer luca leads pecco to his room,”looks like i gotta go”, luca says looking downcast.

“Hey we’ll meet again tomorrow i promise,” pecco says leaving a kiss on luca’s temple.

Slowly untangling himself pecco’s arms luca scurries around to change his clothes.

Standing infront of the door he can hear his trainer pacing outside the door, luca turns around and gives pecco one last hug and just as he turns around to leave the trailer pecco turns him back around and pull him down into a kiss. It’s slow and calm unlike the urgency luca was feeling a few minutes ago. Kissing pecco has always been like that for luca, it’s like the whole world vanishes away and it’s just the two of them in the secrecy of their own world, and no one can do or say anything to them.

But at the end of the day they both have busy lives and luca can hear his trainers footsteps slowing meaning he’s getting impatient, luca for the second time that day slowly untangles himself from pecco’s arms and with the promise that they will meet again tomorrow no matter what he turns around and leaves.

Pecco stands in the lobby(?) of luca’s trailer and sighs he’s gonna have to wait for the paddock to clear a bit for him to quietly leave without getting asked questions. He turns around, goes to luca’s bed and falls face first into it, today has been a great but exhausting day.

as pleased as i am that we're getting a new support hero, i can't help but be disappointed that she looks like d.va's and tracers's models just got mashed together (i literally thought it was just a new skin for either of them for a sec). i kinda want to know what the lore behind her is, but... at the same time i lost interest in new characters lore after bap :( let us know if she's at least fun to play when you get a chance to test her out!

i havent been interested in OW lore since like. idk maybe ramattra: at this point i am just here to see if the chara plays nice and if they look nice while liking the old ones LOL juno looks real fun to play with the space theme, so i'm optimistic she'll be a joy :^)

regarding juno about her appearance, i don't think she looks too much like a mash up of dva/tracer like some of the gal heroes usually do (kiriko genuinely does just make me think of tracer sometimes, for instance)..

...but i do like her 'preview' model before. at the very least, her eyes made her stand out with how sharp the lashes were coupled with her smaller face

in the model we have now, they like. nerfed her lashes LOL??? i could be coping but her old eyes looked more 'rectangular' than the rounded shape we have now also. if they kept the eyes from before, i think that would've helped make her stand out, at the very least the lashes. they have a particular style to them that just isn't translated into the in-game model now

12. what's some good advice you want to share?

hmm well that really depends so much on to whom, in what context, with what life challenge in front of them. but let's go with: if you're in a situation with some base expectation of politeness (colleagues, classmates, some kind of group activity - ie not 'random stranger being an asshole') and someone does or says something either wildly annoying, stupid, clout-grabbing, or whatever: try to build the habit of responding with some variety of "Interesting. Could you help me understand where you're coming from with that?"

I'm never one to say 'assume good intent' - no, fuck that, the other person really might be gunning for your shift or lazing out of the group project. But performing that openness gives you all the cards. If they didn't realize they were in the wrong, this lets them save face while dialing it back. If they know they're in the wrong, suddenly they have to justify it in plain language in front of others, and it may seem easier to back off than double down. And sometimes? You actually are missing information that means you are in the wrong - if you come in with a temper straight off the bat, you're gonna be real embarrassed real quick.

at the end of the day work/school/community-building is about getting along with others well enough to get what you want - a good grade, a promotion, invitations back to the next d&d night, whatever. being right can come later, when tempers cool.

I spend my whole dayjob life writing google docs or reviewing other people's google docs, every single tab is so narrow all you can see is that little blue page icon, I regularly declare bankruptcy and have to keep a doc with a list of all the docs I've read/reviewed so I can ctrl-f for things I was mid-reading when the tab reaping urge (or the audible laptop overheat) struck >.>

One of the first words I associate with Nozel is 오해 (O-hae) which means “misunderstand”! I also associate him with 나쁜 남자 (Nabbun Namja) which means “bad boy” (it’s pretty informal tho 😅).

Nozel is a very misunderstood bad boy/guy in the series, because initially we’re led to believe that he does terrible things to Noelle for no reason other then to be a jerk. But eventually we learn that he had his reasons and that all of us, including Noelle, misunderstood him the entire time (does this excuse his actions? Absolutely not.) but he is still *kind of* a bad guy…at least when it comes to Yami and commoners/peasants 😅.

The words I associate with her is 빛 (Bich) which means “light” and 말썽꾸러기 (Malsseongkkureogi) which means “troublemaker”

Helena is a bright light in the world and to everyone she meets (including the Silvas)! She is cheerful and kind, and tries to spread her bright, warm light to everyone! But she’s also a bit of a troublemaker when she needs to be (especially to Nebra and Solid), however it’s never a “bad trouble” (unless, y’know, she has to cause bad trouble), it tends to be good or harmless trouble she causes!

(Not quite sure when that Scarlet screenshot was taken but the Violet one was taken a few minutes ago) I’m sure people will just complain that Game Freak’s lazy but as the person who hates Skeledirge but loves Quaquaval and Meowscarada and prefers Meowscarada slightly more and got Violet before Scarlet so they decided to pick Meowscarada in Violet only to also get Scarlet and decide “you know what, I’m not missing this opportunity to get a Quaquaval” and loves Armarouge and Ceruledge as much as they love Quaquaval and Meowscarada I unironically love how Quaquaval and Armarouge share a sleeping animation and Meowscarada and Ceruledge share a running animation

i’m so frustrated with people’s lack of common sense about wildlife. if you’re interacting with wildlife, you’re not having your disney princess moment. you’re not forming a magical bond. that’s a wild animal who is potentially terrified; maybe it’s curious if it’s young enough, but that just means you should minimise interactions as much as possible to make sure that animal lives a normal life. if your kid comes in holding a wild animal, don’t pick up your fucking phone to videotape it. bring the animal back outside and educate your kid to leave animals alone. you know what happens when you take in wildlife as a “pet”? either you keep it and do damage because even though it’s “tame” it’s a wild animal who is in no way meant to live in that setting unless it’s being kept by a trained and licensed rehabber who knows the housing and feeding requirements (and even then i’ve seen some who are keeping animals irresponsibility), or it ends up at a wildlife rehab when you inevitably harm it enough that you don’t know what to do, or when no vets see you, or when the animal becomes too aggressive for you to handle. and then we either figure out how to rehabilitate an animal whose temperament and/or body you have massively damaged or we euthanise it because the damage is too extensive. start treating wildlife like wild animals rather than a dog or cat. they’re not pets, they’re not domesticated, leave them alone and let them live happy lives as they’re supposed to.

🙃 - Is your target language hard for you?

Each language has its challenges, but I wouldn't really say any of them are particularly difficult for me, say, to the point of frustration. I have struggled with genders and cases in German, but changing the way I think about them has helped!

😱 - What other languages do you know?

I was raised monolingual, so English is the only language other than my target languages that I'm highly proficient in, but I guess I could say Spanish! I've mentioned this a few times here, but I took Spanish all throughout high school and had around B2 level proficiency by the time I graduated. I didn't keep up with it after I graduated, though, so although I have a working knowledge of it, I'm extremely rusty (and I was never super great to begin with). I always say that Japanese is the language that taught me how to learn languages, so if I could redo those years after I graduated (and even while I was studying!) I definitely would've kept up with it and wouldn't have let it deteriorate to this point. One of these days I'd like to work my Spanish back up to a usable point, but it's not something that's in the cards right at this moment.

In arcane script which he cannot read even if it were not currently obscured from his vision, it says: 'I'M A GOOBER'. "Did you know that warding magic comes in paper form, too? I've never heard of something like that before, but this guy named Ewan helped me out earlier."

“Hm?”

The boy’s sudden shout wakes them from their slumber (a short thing it was meant to be, right before they got up and continued their readings). A glance beyond and it didn’t seem too much time had passed. (That was good at least.)

Turning his attention then to Caspar out of breath, immediately he notes the paper stuck on his forehead—a ward, so he claims. Linhardt only blinks at first.

“Well, I suppose it isn’t impossible.” (Spells were written in tomes after all.) “So long as it’s infused with magic shortly thereafter– just…”

She stands up then, placing her book aside and squinting at the writing. (It wasn’t Fódlan’s language, certainly, and Linhardt didn’t think she'd seen it from a foreign nation instead.) If she had to place a bet, it seemed like some sort of arcane writing—a bit different from what she’s used to, but…

Surely, I’m misreading this?

“You said Ewan gave this to you?” (Linhardt doesn’t think they know that name.) “There’s a chance I might be interpreting this wrong so you’ll have to pardon my translation, but… (How do I say this–?) It seems this ‘ward’ is meant to call you a fool.”
