So I debated responding to this at all, but I thought it would be educational to explain how & why I knew this was bait.

I will not post the ask uncensored because I don't want to contribute to a smear campaign.

Ask is anon; it must be answered publicly, meaning my followers will all see it. Whoever is sending it is unwilling to stand behind the warning.

It's about a follower- not someone I've collabed with, or am friends with, just some random follower. I wasn't sent this bc of personal culpability or concern for my safety; I was sent this bc I am a large enough blog to guarantee attention.

'Move to a secondary app to ask us for proof, which we totally have.' <- THIS is an intentional stumbling block. The goal is that most people will not do that, they'll get this ask and go 'Well I don't want to dm... but better block them, better safe than sorry." This also conveniently means that if the callout is fabricated or has insubstantial proof (an almost sure bet or else they would've just.. linked it here), it won't be subject to much/any scrutiny.

"Surely these aren't the sort of people you want to share spaces with" Note how there's time for several sentences emphasizing how much proof they have of how evil this person is... but I have to dm someone to find out ANY specifics. No brief summary of previous crimes, no indication that I would need to be concerned for anyone's safety (including my own), just the implication that I wouldn't want to be near someone so gross.

Anyways, in conclusion: this ask isn't meant to keep anyone safe, it's meant to scare & drive out the person targeted by spreading vague distrust to as many people as possible. If you get this message, don't answer it: your ask box is being used as a stage to convince your followers not to trust this person. Don't be a mouthpiece.

#tbc: even if this person did suck a callout shared via anons to random blogs they follow is inappropriate and would not improve safety #but also tumblr callouts are generally operating with an accuracy of about 0%#uhhhhh #callout tw #also the imprecise number of people ('surely THESE aren't the kind of people' when its about 1 person) hints this could be fake/ trolling #or possibly a scam/phishing attempt to hack discords. but either way def not something to trust

Also here is an interview snippet which I thought was interesting. I've never thought much about what his creative process might have been like. Also, I didn't realise that the panels he drew on were so much larger than what ended up in print. I mean, it makes sense, but I guess I always just assumed he drew up the squares exactly the way they looked in the end.
