i don’t think rhyme’s relationship to her gender identity is particularly important to the larger picture of twewy, but i do think beat’s perception of her as a girl, as his younger sister, is very very important. cause masculinity as equal to strength is important to beat, and it explains a lot of his relationship to rhyme. rhyme protecting beat, her kindness when they were alive, succeeding at pushing him out of the way in the same way beat failed, it’s an indignity. rhyme, a young girl, his family, then his partner in the Game, like every category of ‘what a man should protect’, is stronger than beat. beat fails to protect her time and time again. and he resents that. that he’s so weak. that she had to protect him.
liiiike, what kariya says to beat after ganking rhyme, “[rhyme] isn’t gone because of us. she’s gone because of you. you failed to protect your partner. […] she protected you. gave her life for you. […] you want payback? then man up” <- thats what its all about. and ‘she’s gone because of you’ stinging twice cause he failed and that’s why she was in the Game at all. later, as a reaper, beat says to neku “you man up any yet? cause i don’t believe in hittin’ women and children” it’s cyclicalll and beat clinging to the ideal of masculinity in the face of his own powerlessness
#‘it got old— being pitied by my lil sister. so i pushed her away’#it’s an indignity!!! paved with good intentions but a blow to his pride nonetheless#beat#rhyme#twewyposting#twewy#daisukenojo bito#beat bito#rhyme bito#such to say. nonbinary rhyme could be real sure. but i do think her being a girl as far as the text is concerned is important#like as far as beat knows#the eng localization obviously uses she/her up the wazoo cause english is like that#but afaik in the orig jp rhyme isn’t obviously gendered until beat calls her his sister#so nonbinary rhyme is a fairly popular reading#which is cool and fine i just think it exists under fairly limited parameters without contradicting the text or undermining the bito’s deal#rambles#actually i recind that last bit. i think it works in way more possibilities than i first thought#but i do think ‘rhyme is out and their gender identity is respected without comment or any other changes’ specifically Would undermine stuff

buffy essentially conditioning spike like an animal to never believe what she says and to act against her wishes because she doesn't mean what she says and can't say what she means, including "no" and them both having to break out of those patterns (buffy by being honest and gentle with both of them, spike by regaining his soul and therefore rebuilding a moral code outside of reactions to violence and/or proximity) in order to be together............. <33333
#nobody likes seeing red but the events of seeing red are a direct result of the way they treat each other#and spike being a vampire makes her decisions with him have a different impact!#the implicatiojns would be Bad if he was human but!!!!!! hello!!!!!!!!!!!!!!#i think it ends up being beautiful.#btvs#growth within the context and parameters of their world#to be very clear im not blaming buffy for ANYTHING#but the way they evolve/devolve in s6 is so important to me#hes SOULLESS#and amongst all this. the're best friends

Minkowski would be so intense about introducing Eiffel and Hera and Lovelace to any of her loved ones back on Earth. She makes the crew sit through a PowerPoint presentation on suitable topics of conversation to discuss with her mother. She gives Dominik a folder of detailed guidance about how to interact with Hera because he's never met an AI before. She asks Eiffel several days beforehand if he has decided what he's going to wear to meet her family, as though Eiffel has ever in his life put thought into an outfit more than 30 seconds before getting dressed.
She tries to control every parameter of the interaction in a way that actually makes it more uncomfortable for everyone involved. She spends the entire time sitting right on the edge of her chair, looking anxiously between each of these people she cares about, trying to tell whether they are getting on, and attempting to communicate with them individually through urgent expressions.
And of course it doesn't work. Eiffel puts his foot in his mouth. Dominik is confused and curious about all the wrong things. Minkowski dares to leave the room for a few minutes and when she comes back, her mother is showing the crew her baby photos, and Minkowski knows she'll never live this down.
#wolf 359#w359#renee minkowski#renée minkowski#That last bit was inspired by a conversation with @commsroom#She said Minkowski's mom should tell the crew a charming anecdote from Minkowski's childhood#that Minkowski finds intensely embarrassing#and I agree#Also thinking about how intense Minkowski would be about this is funnier#if you share my idea that Minkowski's family is generally more chilled out than she is#Like I don't imagine her mother to be the kind of person you'd need a briefing to interact with successfully#but Minkowski is giving that briefing anyway#She'd just be very freaked out about the colliding of worlds I think#Eiffel and Hera and Lovelace are so so important to her#but she's also known them in this very particular context#in which the parameters of her life were fixed and limited#and she could (mostly) control what they knew about her#When they are back on Earth#they've got to work out how to be important to each other in a very different context#They have to work out how they relate to each other in this wider world#which includes Minkowski's husband and family and friends#(and Lovelace's loved ones. and Eiffel's. such as they are)#And I don't think that will be an easy process#but I think it will add an important new dimension to their closeness#the empty man posteth

i think something moonage daydream was really good at doing was capturing a vibe
#sir.txt#the thing it was second best at was painting a picture... that movie is a watercolor rendition of a galaxy to me#i feel like the linear progression of bowie's life in the movie never being marked by any specific dates not even years... it gives it that#not cut and dry feeling. none of these events exist solely in one day of one year they are something that will span longer than ourselves#one day- a couple of hours- stretched into infinity simply by the fact that they were not confined within a date#i think that's something worthy of bowie. to be immortalized not through the medium itself but by how the medium refuses to cage him within#any set parameters that would be too extreme and unsatisfying for him would he be there to choose#instead letting him trespass all those barriers and just be and transcend#my boyfriend says the film is like bowies superstar cosmic journal well i say the film is like bowies watercolor rendition of a galaxy in#formation- and all the stars are still forming and the watercolor still hasn't dried as another layer is added so shades melt within-into-#each other#like how bowie refused to keep himself caged within one style one look one identity he surpassed all of those boundaries and transformed#into something else... it is only fair that the film capture it in a similar way... all of the flashy colors and editing is just a#projection of bowies spirit itself in all its vibrancy and extravagance without being supercilious#this movie was touching but also fun for the sake of fun and eccentric for the sake of eccentricity. it's a must watch for whoever loves#bowie at his most raw and unrestrained and undefined... i felt like falling through the screen to bw held by him at several moments#BECAUSE that's what the movie is it's the galaxy wrapping its arms around the unknowing astronaut#and welcoming them into itself because nobody in this reality is actually an outsider of life- nobody passively observes the universe-#that's something that i found very moving in the film was how bowie surpassed that feeling of all-encompassing loneliness that was#what propeled him to create art... and found acceptance and loving and understood he wasn't alien to all of it.#it's very moving again like i said. but specially movingfor someone like me who struggles so hard not to simply idly observe things and let#life reject me. I can't keep letting these things write themselves into existence over and over and maybe just maybe#that film helped me snap back into a higher sense of lucidity where i realise i have to take control of my life#but like. anyway.#bowies life is very mythologised but in part it is very much a self constructed myth which he himself took the time to skillfully architect#and its such that myth ceases to be only in suspension and untangible: bowie being extraterrestrial.#he.... he integrates so much into the planet he does become an energy traversing through earth. he becomes life itself but in the least self#important way this sentiment could be expressed.#there will never be another bowie- as there will never be another dylan or reed or lennon. there will never be circumstances which will come#but to quote the movie. his life hasnt ended. only changed. thats beautiful. anyways my tags are up

Wanted to draw a lil chibi presentation of my most popular teamup! I love each and every one of the companions, but Karlach is most true and dearest to my heart so I never swap her out.
That honour goes to Shadowheart, i sometimes swap her out with Astarion

seeing miguel takes that make u say aloud HE DOES NOT KNOW HE IS A FICTIONAL CHARACTER IN A STORY WHERE THE PLOT IS CONSTRUCTED TO ILLUSTRATE A CERTAIN POINT/MEANING BRO 😭
#why can’t Miguel recognise the importance of trying and failing to save the police captain#BECAUSE HE DOES NOT KNOW HE IS A FICTIONAL CHARACTER HE DOES NOT KNOW ABOUT CHARACTER ARCS#ALL HE SEES ARE REPEATING PATTERNS ACROSS THE MULTIVERSE#HE DOES NOT KNOW HES IN A STORY GUYS COME ON STAY WITH ME HERE 😭#tunes talks spiderverse#also like on the meta level the ENTIRE thing his character is being used to critique/question is what story elements have been used the irl#writers of spiderman to ‘legitimise’ a spiderman. what do those repeating patterns say about us that women die for Spider-Man’s pain#etc etc what does it say about society irl that miles was seen as such a challenge to the spiderman mythos by virtue of being a black kid#you’re having a character In the STORY look at those repeating patterns and ascribe it as fate BECAUSE WHY WOULD YOU NOT YOU DONT KNOW YOU#ARE FICTIONAL#but what highlighting those patterns asks US the audience to question is why is that suffering necessary for a spiderman story why does it#always have to play out the same#why CANT miles save his father#miguel is only interacting with the concept of canon as a way to understand and conceptualise these pattern events and the damage that can#be done to the dimensions/multiverse when certain parameters are met#he does not KNOW about the meta commentary guys PLEASE 🚬

Congratulations to Never Let Me Go for being the second drama to get the highest rating from me this year. Currently preparing my mind and body to be insufferable about it forever.
#haha! sike! I've actually already started-#(list of things I did BEFORE finishing NLMG tonight:#1. downloaded the episodes to cherish and protect in case the downfall of internet is tomorrow/other disasters#2. bought a replica of Nueng's necklace for the price of two croissants in the not-very-legal market#3. included a shot from the series in a special gifset#4. had heated mental arguments with the people making negative comments about it#5. .......... considered giving FUTS another chance out of gratitude to PP (not sure yet but just the fact that I gave it a THOUGHT-))#//#well now that being said#I'm kinda disappointed there are only 2 new dramas in the annual list that got the ''I will definitely rewatch this'' badge#last year there were 3 BLs alone. not even counting OTHER genres!!! and in 2023 I watched many MORE dramas!!! what is this!!!!!!#was I unlucky. was I going after the wrong stuff. I keep thinking about that.#but there were also a good number of dramas that got the ''I might rewatch this'' badge#and even the ones I didn't really enjoy were important to give me perspective/parameter#so... no time was wasted. and I was doing what I like to do? so I guess it's ok...

my boss just asked me which of virginia woolf’s works is the most “important” and i sort of just sat there opening and closing my mouth at him because like when you ask that question of the token feminist historian in your employ it really quickly becomes a matter of how do you choose? important for what?
#obviously the answer is mrs dalloway but like. please delineate the parameters of your inquiry first#and that’s like an overall answer. but for her fiction I’d almost rather say To the Lighthouse#and for her criticism/non-fiction it’s obviously A Room of One’s Own#and to me personally most days it’s her diary entry about frock consciousness#so like. define ‘important’#rare pic of me in the wild

i really thought the society & sustainability class would be my fave this quarter but NAY. map city baby.
#my prof for that class is way cooler & better at teaching#AND they said we could make shit up for our final project as long as we demonstrate an understanding#of geospatial data and arcGIS#the example they gave was setting parameters for preferred dragon dens and mapping where one might like to live#anyway im also learning just like. way more#i think i prefer working with data over the more... social science side of environmental science#the social science aspect is ofc important but thats not really what im in school for. i dont think i need a degree in that to understand i

one of the reasons I hate my manager is because he insists on doing everything in the fucking stupidest, messiest, least efficient way possible. one of the things he insisted on is that we wrap the holds at the circulation desk. I work at a very busy branch that gets a lot of holds and wrapping the holds is kind of a messy process involving many stacks of books and carts and sheets of paper. in short it looks bad for us to be doing it at the fucking circ desk and also it's bad customer service bc people don't want to interrupt us when we're busy. and then i brought up that it was easier and often times faster to just have one person dedicated to wrapping them in back and then shelving them. instead of whoever is on desk juggling helping patrons and wrapping holds. he said it was an Absolute Priority that we get the holds out as fast as we can. again despite this not being a faster method.
ANYWAY. I do the desk schedule so I always put him on desk at 1 like. okay you wanna do this stupid bass akwards shit? YOURE the one who gets to do it then <3 and I walk outside. and what do I see? my shithead manager ignoring a cart full of holds while he weeds dvds. and don't even get me started on the desperately slow and inefficient way he weeds. i could have weeded dvds in an hour and he's been working on it for weeks. anyway.
#OH ITS A PRIORITY? A NUMBER ONE PRIORITY? IS THAT IT?? BUT LESS IMPORTANT THAN YOU WEEDING DVDS?????#so idk how standardized software is across library systems but at mine we have a software#where we can pick a collection and set parameters and itll run us a list of what needs to be weeded.#ex: im pulling everything that has circed fewer than say 5 times in the last year#you print out the list. you pull the materials. you withdraw them. youre done.#my manager. goes to the stacks. takes an entire shelf of dvds off the shelf. walks over to the computer.#and looks up the bib record for each one. so he can look at the ytd circ.#it takes him an hour to do one shelf. he puts 90% of them back.#it makes me want to scream every time i see him do it.#carly.txt

there's something so viscerally real about beau that i feel whenever i think about him like i think out of all my protagonists he's the one you could easily pluck from my brain and put into the real world and he would just be a guy
#i dont think every character needs to be Realistic in that sense#moreso believable and realistic within the parameters of reality in ur novel#like felix and dorothy are very real to me but w them there was more intention to develop them#around a specific literary intention for the novel. they were always meant to be novel protagonists#whereas beau started out as just developing a Guy who happened to be in the story and now he just happens to be a novel protagonist#and i think bc of that its like he absolutely feels the more 'realistic' out of them all in that sense#bc he was never shaped around any specific parameters to fit any function#also bc compared to felix and dorothy he was always developed as a single guy#felix and dorothy its important that they are treated as individual characters and they are#but they also were still developed around telling the story of this relationship u know?#felix and dorothy came with a story whereas a story grew from beau

#zck.txt#this is like barely a joke guys#here are the parameters:#survival horror house: lunatic conservatives that get up walk around at random intervals. my phone is dead. i feel like i'm running a fever#psych horror apt: 55 degrees inside. slugs randomly generating in the kitchen. definitely mold growing in the basement#i chose my apartment only because i was absolutely not able to sleep in the survival horror house#and without my phone i felt like i was going to lose my mind#oh also i was fucking starving and had nothing to eat. that is important as well

My partner and I are trying to settle a debate and only you can truly help. Are you actually from London?
Grew up in Bournemouth on the south coast, then lived in London for about 10 years after uni. So... not originally, but the city is well known and very important to me. I guess it depends on what parameters you want to put on the word "from".
Also, something I've noticed is a lot of my asks use the "settle a debate" formulation like it makes a question less weird (not that this ask was a particularly weird example), when actually the framing of "some people you don't know were arguing about the details of your life" is actually pretty weird in and of itself.

see. okay. this is true about chairs. and while i personally think “adult human female, female meaning of the sex which produces ova” is a very clear and comprehensive definition, not everyone agrees. and, for the sake of argument, that’s fine! but that’s not how the law works. lawmaking bodies agonize over the precise definitions of terms to ensure that the law does what they’re hoping it will do, and is not easily misused. that’s their job.
in ireland, the bread that fast food restaurants use is legally considered cake because of the sugar content. cake is regulated differently than bread. do you and i need to argue the finer points of cake and bread? how sweet do you think something has to be so we can consider it cake? does it matter? not really. but it does when you’re trying to tax staple foods and non-staple foods differently.
there have been multiple court cases in the US determining if a taco is a sandwich (as of May 2024, it is, as per the superior court of indiana, fun fact). is a taco a sandwich? i don’t know! i don’t really think so. if someone said “hey i made sandwiches” and gave me a taco, i’d be confused. and anyway, does it matter? not really. but it does when i’m trying to determine if a taco restaurant can open in a space that won’t allow sandwich shops.
is a barbershop different than a hair salon? i think so. i go to a hair salon, my brother goes to a barbershop, if we switched our appointments we’d both be unhappy. it matters for the sake of communication, but is it a super important distinction? not really. but what if i signed a non-compete agreement with the barbershop i work at that said i wouldn’t work at any nearby barbershop for six months after terminating my contract? can i work at a hair salon? now it matters.
if i needed fifty chairs for an event, and the company i contracted with sent fifty horses, or fifty tables, they could argue “but it’s something with four legs that a person can sit on!” and they’d be correct. but i would know i’d been given something different than what i asked for, and i would expect the chair supplier to know that, too. so if i want to demand a refund/return/exchange on the basis that i’ve received the wrong product, do i have a claim?
so, okay, you feel we can’t define the term “woman” perfectly. or maybe we can define it, as in we know what we’re trying to talk about, but we don’t have a good term for it. wouldn’t be the first time it happened! but if we are creating a legal category, it does in fact need to have parameters. meaningful parameters.
if i want to give some speeches promoting radical gender acceptance, i could probably get away with never outright defining the word woman. but what if i want men who kill women to have their crimes classified as hate crimes? i need to have a meaningfully defined category of what a woman is and what makes one different from a man. mexico requires that congressional candidates be split 50-50 between men and women to enforce gender parity. “woman” has to be a meaningfully defined category, or else … well, you’ll end up with the same problem they keep having to deal with.
if we want protections or resources for women, “women” have to be a meaningful legal category. if it is a category anyone can opt into, then it is a category that includes anyone, which is not a meaningful category when it is meant to include only half of people. also women aren’t chairs.
