Pairing(s): Theodore Nott x female!reader, Draco Malfoy x Hermione Granger, Blaise Zabini x Luna Lovegood

Word Count: around 4,100

Warning(s): very AU, sad reader, swearing, DRAMIONE FOREVER, Sirius and Remus are alive FIGHT ME, mentions blood but nothing graphic, changing certain rules about Hogwarts to fit the story (prefect rules specifically), no house for the reader is mentioned but I suppose it's implied that she's gryffindor??

Author's Note(s): This is so self indulgent, lol. I love fictional Theo. I don't know if y'all picture someone specific in your head but I always envision Cody Christian as Theo. Enjoy!

"(Y/N), are you okay?"

It was always the same question.

(Y/N), are you okay?

(Y/N), do you need anything?

(Y/N), can we do anything for you?

And she always gave the same answer.

"No, I'm fine."

But she wasn't fine, and she hadn't been fine for quite some time.

She sat alone in her bedroom at 12 Grimmauld Place. The rain pattering down against the window like tears against the glass. The fireplace was lit, emmitting a soft glow about the room. A shabby knitted blanket was wrapped around her shoulders, keeping in what little warmth she felt. There was a cup of tea sitting on the side table that she hadn't touched since Mrs. Weasley put it there, the heat long gone.

She was surrounded by people. The entire Order of the Phoenix would spend their days coming and going. The permanent residents of 12 Grimmauld Place, like the Weasley family and of couse Sirius and Remus, wandered the house daily awaiting news of anything.

And she still felt so lonely.

No one in the house really understood why she felt the way she did. No one except Hermione. Hermione was in the same situation as her, she just hid her feelings better. No one knew that Hermione would sneak into (Y/N)'s room at night and the two girls would cry themselves to sleep, hugging each other in comfort. (Y/N) was the only one around who knew how Hermione was really feeling.

Distraught.

Sad.

Frightened.

On the verge of losing the only shred of sanity they had left.

There was a sharp knock on (Y/N)'s door before she heard it open, knocking her from her melancholy trance.

"(Y/N)."

She turned to look at Hermione standing in the doorway.

"Sirius just sent a patronus." She said, her voice laced with urgency. "He's on his way here and he has three defectors with him."

(Y/N) immediately stood up, the blanket around her shoulders abandoned in the chair, her eyes wide. "Hermione..."

The other girl nodded. "I know."

Bounding towards the door, (Y/N) wiped her eyes. "Could it be them?"

"I don't know."

"Did Sirius say anything else?"

"No."

"Absolutely nothing?"

"Just that he's on his way here."

She felt like she'd been struck by lightning.

"(Y/N), we have to be emotionally prepared if it's not them." Hermione whispered.

"Fuck that, Hermione."

"(Y/N)..."

"No. I can't take this anymore. I really can't."

Before Hermione could say anything else, there was a commotion from downstairs. The two girls whipped their heads toward the staircase. Muffled screams were coming from the main level of the house.

(Y/N) looked at Hermione before the two of them exited the room, moving to look over the third floor banister. They saw Harry and Ron rushing down the stairs, Ginny and Luna close behind.

"Let's go." (Y/N) said, already making her way to the top of the stairs.

She hurried down the steps as fast as she could without hurting herself, Hermione on her heels.

Please, please, please let him be here. Please let him be okay.

Once they reached the landing between the first flight of stairs and the second, (Y/N) scanned the main floor. Harry and Ron stood at the bottom of the stairs, their attention turned towards whatever was happening in the dining room. Her eyes moved towards the doorway and she froze. Standing there was Blaise Zabini, Luna Lovegood wrapped in his arms.

Her heart stopped.

"Blaise?" She asked.

His eyes moved towards her.

Another body moved through the doorway revealing a head of platinum blonde hair.

Hermione gasped. "Draco?"

His head snapped to where they stood on the landing. "Hermione!"

Hermione moved past (Y/N) and rushed down the rest of the stairs before throwing herself into the boy's arms.

(Y/N) stopped breathing.

Three of them. There's supposed to be three of them. Where is he?

She carefully made her way down the rest of the stairs, moving by a very disgruntled Ron Weasley and a rather perplexed Harry Potter. "Where is he?" She couldn't help but notice that Blaise and Draco were both covered in blood. Her voice cracked as she felt the tears well up in her eyes. "Blaise, please."

He looked at her, his brown eyes tired and full of sympathy. Another scream echoed through the house. Without a word, he looked towards the dining room.

That's when her heart cracked in two.

Members of the Order were scattered around the room. Ginny was running back and forth between the dining room table and the parlour carrying bandages and vials of what looked like healing salves. Remus and Sirius stood with their backs to the main doorway, going through the vials and picking out what would be the most helpful before setting them on the table in a separate pile. Molly was scurrying this way and that around the table, her attention set on something different every few seconds. But on the table was a boy, bloody and writhing in pain.

Theo.

She fell to her knees, her face in her hands. "No..." The tears that had been pooling in her eyes finally fell. A pair of arms wrap around her. "He can't die. He can't die. He can't die."

"I'm so sorry, (Y/N). Come on, you don't need to see this." Hermione held her up, supporting almost all of her weight so she wouldn't fall back to the ground. "Mrs. Weasley knows what she's doing."

(Y/N)'s eyes darted back to Theo. "I can't leave him."

"Let's just go to the kitchen and let them work. We won't be far."

As Theo let out another agonizing cry, (Y/N) let Hermione lead her away. She looked back towards the dining room entryway but it was blocked by Blaise, Luna, and Draco who were following them down the hallway. The three looked back at her with sympathetic eyes.

The next thing (Y/N) knew, the group had entered the kitchen. Hermione had pulled out a chair for her to sit in before taking the seat directly to her right. Draco followed suit and sat next to Hermione while Blaise and Luna sat across from them. Once they were situated, Blaise grabbed Luna's hand and held it in his lap.

"We didn't know you and Blaise were seeing each other, Luna." Hermione observed.

Luna laid her head against his shoulder, smiling softly despite the sadness of her friend. Blaise glanced down at her before answering. "We're both rather private, Granger. We didn't really want to advertise our relationship to all of Hogwarts, especially considering the state of the wizarding world."

Hermione nodded. She looked at Draco. "I understand that. I think we all do."

There was a moment of silence as everyone at the table took in their current situation. (Y/N), finally snapping back to reality, looked at Blaise again. There were blood stains covering the front of his shirt and a rip in the sleeve of his jacket. Draco also looked disheveled, his usuaully styled hair unkempt and scruffy. Both boys had dark circles under their eyes.

"What happened?"

Blaise made eye contact with (Y/N). More screams sounded from upstairs. "(Y/N), I don't think-"

"I want to know." She interrupted.

He sighed. "Okay." He looked at Hermione then back to (Y/N). "We've been planning to defect for months. I think we all came to the same conclusion around the same time. The night Dumbledore died."

Out of the corner of her eye, (Y/N) could see Draco squeeze Hermione's hand.

"We wanted to stay that night, but it was impossible. They would have killed us right then and there. We had no choice but to leave." Blaise paused and looked at Draco. "We practically had to drag Theo." He cleared his throat. "Earlier today, we were summoned to go on a mission. Someone had gotten word to the Dark Lord about Order members being in Diagon Alley. We were told we would have the upper hand so an ambush would be easy. That's when Draco sent his patronus to Sirius."

"Draco, that could've been dangerous! What if someone had seen you?" Hermione scolded.

The blonde rolled his eyes. "No one knows I can even form a patronus, Hermione. It was the only way to get word to the Order as fast as possible."

"Yes, now we all know that Draco's patronus is an otter. Adorable, mate." Blaise quipped.

Draco rolled his eyes. "Oh, piss off."

"Anyway," Blaise continued, "when we showed up, it was already a shit show. The fighting had already begun, so they sent us in as reinforcements. Luckily for us, it looked like the Order was winning. That was the only way our plan was going to work."

"I saw Sirius right away." Draco added. "There was no one else around right then so I helped him disarm Yaxley, then before anything else could happen I cast my patronus again. Poor bloke looked like he'd seen a ghost."

"That's when Theo asked him for help." Blaise leaned forward, his elbows on the table. "Sirius rushed us into a side alley and asked if we were being honest. It didn't really take much convincing though. We all looked rather... anxious. Then he told us to apparate to the Burrow. Said he'd meet us there after the fighting had stopped."

There was another pause as Blaise hesitated.

Draco continued. "The four of us were about to apparate, but-"

"The four of you?" Hermione asked.

He nodded then bowed his head. "Pansy was with us, too."

(Y/N) watched Hermione put her hand on Draco's back in comfort.

"Before any of us could leave, we were cornered in the alleyway." Blaise spoke up. "Sirius stepped in front of us and blocked a curse, which obviously tipped off the one's shooting at us that we were no longer on the same side. It was Dolohov and Theo's dad. They just started shooting anything they could at us, yelling about blood traitors and the like. Well, that caught the attention of Bellatrix."

(Y/N) felt her blood run cold at the name.

"She rounded the corner and when she saw Draco, she went ballistic." Blaise explained. "She sent hexes at all of us but she took one last look at Draco before she sent the killing curse his way."

Draco shifted uncomfortably in his chair. (Y/N) saw a tear form in his eye. "Pansy saved me." He sniffled.

Hermione whipped her head at Draco in surprise as (Y/N) let out a light gasp.

Blaise took a deep breath before he continued speaking. "None of us could have seen it coming. She just... stepped in front of him. Then she was gone. We didn't have time to do anything about it. I saw Lupin and a Weasley come up behind Dolohov and then Sirius yelled for us to go, so we apparated."

"So what happened to Theo?" (Y/N) asked, wiping her eyes.

"It was his father." Draco sneared. "Bastard sent a cutting curse at Theo before he could apparate."

Blaise sighed. "Sirius and Mr. Weasley showed up seconds after we did. They probably planned on more of an interrogation but then they saw Theo and brought us straight here."

There was a lull in conversation then. None of them had anything else to say. Hermione was rubbing circles into Draco's upper back. (Y/N) just stared at a spot on the wooden table, unable to meet eyes with anyone.

Another screamed echoed through the house.

Luna stood up. "I think I'll make some tea."

As the blonde moved about the kitchen, (Y/N) felt heartbroken. Heartbroken for Theo. Heartbroken for Pansy. Blaise. Draco. All of them.

They didn't deserve any of this.

She wasn't sure how long she'd been sitting at the kitchen table staring at the same spot of wood, but she noticed the tea in front of her was cold.

As usual.

"(Y/N)?"

Her head snapped to the doorway. Ginny stood there, observing everyone in the room before looking back at her. "Uh, mum says you can come up if you'd like."

She didn't have to be told twice.

Dashing up the stairs two by two, she didn't think she'd ever moved so fast in her life. She made it down the hallway and to the dining room entryway in record time, the rest of the group following behind her. (Y/N) looked into the room and saw that it wasn't as chaotic as the last time she'd been standing there. The dining room table had been transfigured into a bed. Mrs. Weasley stood near the foot of it, looking at Theo who had been laid against the pillows. His arms and his chest were wrapped in bandages, but he was breathing.

"(Y/N), dear." Mrs. Weasley whispered, beckoning her closer.

Inching her way into the room, (Y/N) looked to the motherly woman. She looked exhausted. "Is he...?" (Y/N) asked, trailing off.

"He's going to be fine." Mrs. Weasley answered. "He lost a lot of blood, but we gave him a blood replenishing potion. He probably won't wake up for a while yet, but I can assure you he will be okay."

(Y/N) released a breath she didn't even realize she'd been holding.

"Do you need anything, dear? What can I do for you?"

(Y/N) was in awe. What would any of them have done without Molly Weasley?

Finally taking her eyes off Theo, (Y/N) turned to face her. "You've done more than enough, Mrs. Weasley." She made her way closer to the woman and threw her arms around her in an embrace. "I can't even begin to thank you for what you've done."

(Y/N) felt Mrs. Weasley's arms tighten around her just a smidge before pulling back and smiling at her, the corners of her eyes crinkling. "Is this boy the reason you haven't been drinking your tea?"

In that moment, she really couldn't help herself. (Y/N) gave a soft chuckle before turning her face towards Theo. "Is it that obvious?"

Mrs. Weasley continued smiling, her eyes softening just a touch. "Oh, (Y/N), the boys under this roof might be a bit dense, but I'm not." She moved to grab a blanket from a chair in the corner before making her way back. "I knew something had to be bothering you. I would've bet anything that it was a someone." She wrapped the blanket around (Y/N)'s shoulders. "Does he know how you feel?"

(Y/N) didn't know how to answer. Did Theo know how she felt? She thought he did, but come to think of it, she'd never out right said the words I love you to him.

In the grand scheme of things, (Y/N) and Theo hadn't actually been together for very long. She'd always had a crush on him, there was no doubt of that, but they hadn't really spoken to one another until their sixth year at school. If (Y/N) was really being honest with herself, she'd always been too nervous to even look in his direction, afraid she'd do something to embarrass herself. Then, one fateful day in potions class, Professor Slughorn introduced amortentia.

It was like she was there. The same fragrances she registered in potions suddenly wafted into her nose, overtaking the rest of her senses.

That day, down in the dungeons of Hogwarts, (Y/N) was overcome with a feeling so overwhelming she really didn't know what to do. She couldn't help but look at him.

Little did she know, the same thing was happening to Theo.

They locked eyes across the classroom and (Y/N) thought she might have died a little inside. He smiled at her and her body erupted into butterflies.

One would think after such an earth-shattering experience, a person could maybe gain the confidence to talk to another.

That was not the case.

(Y/N) and Theo didn't have any other interactions, big or small, until almost four months later.

Because Ron and Hermione weren't speaking to one another, there was some tension among their table in potions. (Y/N) and Harry, the two who were stuck in middle ground territory, were trying their best to make everyone get along. There weren't any positive results as of yet.

This led to their group being separated, because as Slughorn put it, "Distance makes the heart grow fonder."

She wasn't sure how it happened, or why, but she was then sat at a table with Draco Malfoy, Blaise Zabini, and Theodore Nott. (Y/N) tried her best to avoid eye contact with the cute brunette, and was actually doing really well until she realized she had forgotten to grab an Ashwinder egg. She sighed, rather deeply, and made to move to the storage cupboard, but before she left her stool, a gloved hand entered her peripheral vision and set an egg down next to her cauldron. She quickly looked to her left and saw Theo looking right at her.

And that was only the beginning.

It was Theo's idea. They find a spot and meet in secret. They were both prefects, so it wasn't hard to do. Without raising too much suspicion, they would trade shifts with whoever was partnered with the other. They would walk the halls doing their prefect duties and then they would go to their special place.

The astronomy tower.

Not many people ventured to the astronomy tower. It was secluded and sort of cut off from the rest of the castle. It was the perfect place for two young people to meet without anyone else finding out. Until the night Dumbledore was killed.

Theo had been acting weird the couple days leading up to it. Everytime they were together (Y/N) noticed he seemed on edge, almost nervous to be around her. (Y/N) was beginning to think he had changed his mind. Maybe he didn't feel the same way she did. Maybe he wanted to move on from her. Maybe there was someone else.

"Are we meeting at the usual time tomorrow?" (Y/N) asked, looking up at him. They were sitting near the edge of the astronomy tower. The sky was clear and the stars were shining bright.

Theo didn't say anything right away. He was staring out at the grounds surrounding the castle as if in a trance.

"Theo," (Y/N) said, her voice trembling, "are you okay? You've been acting... different."

He seemed to gain some awareness back before he looked back at her. "No."

She was shocked. "What? Theo-" But she was interrupted.

"You can't be here tomorrow night."

In an instant, (Y/N) knew something was wrong. "Why?"

"Please, (Y/N)," Theo said, grabbing her hand and holding it tightly, "you can't come anywhere near the astronomy tower tomorrow night. Promise me."

(Y/N) didn't know what to think. After a few moments of silence, her eyes met his. "I promise."

Theo let go of her hand and moved his hand gently up to the side of her face before bringing his forehead to hers. "Whatever happens, we'll see each other again. I know we will."

Any doubt (Y/N) had been feeling about him immediately lifted. She could feel her eyes start to tear up. "Why does this feel like a goodbye?"

Theo pulled back to look her in the eyes. "Because it might be." Then he leaned in and kissed her.

That was the last time she had seen him. The next night, she was roaming the halls with other members of the D.A. when the death eaters had broken into the school and Dumbledore was killed.

(Y/N) was suddenly shifted back to reality.

"We never..." (Y/N) started before trailing off. "I never got the chance."

Mrs. Weasley smiled softly then patted (Y/N)'s arm lightly. "Well, it looks like you'll get the chance, dearie."

(Y/N) couldn't remember falling asleep. After her conversation with Mrs. Weasley, the rest of the teenagers that were in the kitchen of Grimmauld Place made their way up the stairs into the dining room as well. Draco and Blaise wanted to check on their friend and both made sounds of relief upon seeing he was going to be okay before they were ushered up the stairs where the bedrooms were located.

Moving the comfiest chair she could find to Theo's bedside, (Y/N) kept the blanket Mrs. Weasley had given her and sat down. She tried to make herself as comfortable as possible before she grabbed Theo's hand. She must have fallen asleep looking at him because when she woke up, her face was sideways on the edge of the bed and his hand was still in hers. She propped her head up with her open hand and took a moment to look at the bindings across his arms and his chest, her eyes moving all the way up to his face.

It took her a second to realize Theo's eyes were open and looking at her.

"Theo?" She whispered. Her voice was hesitant, as if she thought it was a dream.

He smirked at her but it was full of adoration. Only Theodore Nott could make a smirk look adorable.

"I told you we'd see each other again."

(Y/N) didn't know what to do. "Please tell me I'm not dreaming."

Theo chuckled gently. "Would you like me to pinch you?"

She felt a flood of relief overtake her body and it was so powerful, she started to cry.

"Oh, darling, no." Theo tried to move but grimaced before deciding it was probably better to lay still. "Darling, please. Don't cry."

(Y/N) sniffled and brought the sleeve of her shirt up to her eyes to wipe the tears away. "I can't help it, Theo! I was so worried!" Theo attempted to interrupt but (Y/N) continued before he could get a single word in. "I've been worried for months! I didn't know if you were alive or dead, and then you show up here covered in blood!"

"(Y/N)-"

"And then Draco tells me you were hit by a cutting curse by your own father! You could have died by bleeding out if you hadn't gotten here sooner than you did. Then the last thing I would've said to you before you died would've been something stupid and not "I love you" like it should have been-"

"(Y/N)-"

"But I was too scared to say anything to you about it the last time we saw each other-"

"(Y/N)!"

"Shut up, Theo, I'm trying to confess my love to you!"

And then there was silence.

(Y/N) was sure her face looked as red as a tomato. Her skin felt like it was vibrating off of her body. She could feel the palpable silence between her and the boy in front of her.

She looked down at her hands. "I'm sorry." She stood up and turned her back to him before making her way to the entrance of the dining room.

"You love me?"

She froze. It was so quiet (Y/N) wasn't sure he'd actually said it. Turning back to him, she saw he was still looking at her, a new emotion in his eyes.

She took a deep breath. "Theo..." She moved back to the chair at his bedside. "I always have."

Theo narrowed his eyes as if he couldn't actually believe it. "Really?"

(Y/N) nodded and swiped a piece of hair behind her ear, looking down at her hands in her lap.

There was a beat of silence before Theo spoke up again. "I love you, too."

She smiled. The words she had always longed to hear. It was like a symphony of angels. Her eyes reached his and they looked considerably brighter than they did before. They both chuckled lightly.

"Now you tell me I'm not dreaming." Theo whispered, a tone of astonishment in his words.

(Y/N) smirked. "Would you like me to pinch you?"

He opened his arms wide and beckened her over. Hesitantly, she moved closer to the edge of the bed before slowly moving into his embrace and relaxing into his chest. "Are you sure this is okay? I don't want to hurt you."

"I'm just a bit sore this morning, love. I'll be fine." He pulled her even closer to his body. "Just let me hold you and I'll overlook the fact you told me to shut up."

(Y/N) laid her head against his shoulder and into the crook of his neck. "I'm sorry."

She felt Theo leave a soft kiss against her hair. "You're forgiven, my love."

“Look at stupid Potter. With his stupid scar, and his stupid friends, and his stupid Y/N.”

“His?” Enzo laughs. “Y/N is not his.”

“Not if we can help it,” Draco mumbles.

The pair watches in silence as you throw a snowball at the ginger weasel, ducking behind Harry when the bloodtraitor tries to retaliate.

Harry scooped you up in his arms, like a valiant prince coming to save the day.

They can both hear your clear laugh, even from the other side of the courtyard. It makes them both seethe with anger.

“C’monnnn,” you pleaded, tugging at Harry’s arm. “I have friends other than you. I wanna talk to Luna and Pansy and Blaise.”

Harry rolled his eyes, not putting up much of a fight as you dragged him into the Great Hall.

It was a new thing this season, to promote house unity, or whatever. The heads of houses had come up with the idea; tea, cocoa, and cookies in the Great Hall every Friday evening. Everyone welcome.

The Great Hall is dimmer than usual, not all of the floating candles lit. A few dozen student of all houses mingle and meander.

A group of kids sat on a blanket on the cool stone floor, almost as if it were a picnic.

Another group had thrown blankets and sheets over part of the ridiculously long tables, creating a blanket fort underneath.

You headed straight over to where Luna was painting Pansy’s nails. They greeted you with laughter as Luna’s unsteady hand got orange nail polish all over Pansy’s knuckle.

You gasp. “Harry! Let me paint your nails! Pleaseeee?”

He shrugged, looking over the myriad of colors laid out. He picked one up and held it out towards you.

“Snitch gold, for luck.”

You laugh, accepting the bottle and pointing for him to sit down.

“You don’t need luck, Harry. You’re you.”

Across the room, two Slytherins clocked Potter’s shy grin and bright blush.

You sat down with your friends, a wicked game of truth or dare already in full effect. As predicted, Gryffindor had won their game against Hufflepuff, resulting in a very large house party. You’d noticed a few Ravenclaws around and wondered how they got in, until you saw the Slytherins, the lions’ main suppliers of firewhiskey and good times.

“I dare you…” Ginny trailed off as she thought. A wicked grin spread across her face. “I dare you to wear that failed blue glitter lipstick that me and Cho made.”

You roll your eyes. “Oh, please. That’s easy.”

“For the whole day tomorrow.”

You raise an eyebrow. “I’m not afraid. Bring it on.”

~~~ “Draco!” Enzo hissed as he harshly elbowed his friend in the ribs.

“Ow. What?” He followed Enzo’s finger, pointing straight at the Gryffindor table. “What am I looking at?”

“Potter.”

Harry James Potter was furiously scrubbing at his skin with a napkin as you, Ginny, Ron, and Hermione were all practically howling with laughter.

Sure enough, you were true to your word, wearing that ridiculously tacky lipstick that stood out like a beacon when surrounded by all of that garish red and gold.

Harry let out a visible sigh, tossing down the napkin and sitting back in his chair, arms crossed over his chest in an obvious sulk.

Right there, smack dab in the middle of his cheek, was a perfect blue stain from a kiss.

Draco’s ears burned with rage.

“Nope. Come on, Enz. We’ve waited damn long enough.”

~~~ “It’s not coming off, guys,” Harry whined.

“Why do you think we called it failed?” Ginny laughs, the blue smudge on his cheek looking quite comical. “That’s what happened when we tried to wear it.”

You snicker. “You look good in blue, Harry,” you teased, enjoying the faint blush that settled over his cheeks.

You suddenly felt a heavy hand come down on your shoulder, tightening to the point where it was almost painful.

“We need to talk to you,” Enzo snapped, his hand on your shoulder tightening even more as he all but dragged you out of your seat.

You stumbled after him as Draco propelled you forward with a firm hand on the small of your back.

The two boys dragged you out into the hall, away from prying eyes. Draco wasted no time before shoving you up against the wall in a secluded alcove.

“The fuck do you think you’re doing, kissing Potter?”

“W-what?” You stammered, your brain not yet having caught up with the situation.

Enzo scoffed. “Whoring yourself out to anyone who blushes at you, huh?”

“What?”

“How long have you been sleeping with him, hm? How long?”

“Wh- Harry? We’re friends!”

“Friends, huh? Friends?” Enzo scoffed.

“Yes!” You snapped. “Who d’you think you are, questioning my- mmfph!”

Draco surged forward and kissed you harshly.

so Ginny is obviously pick me (i don't think is bad or good but it's a clear fact in books). so in 5 book she introduces Luna to Harry and Neville and laughs at her. later we see several of their interactions

Luna and Harry become somewhat friends(?) and Harry even invites her to Slughorns' party. in book 7 Ginny tells Harry to go with Luna instead of Cho because she's obviously jealous. i think L is safe-girl for G bc H won't fall in love with her and even more - next to her weirdly behaviour G looks cooler (i love Luna and called her weird from G prospective) and i don't think L and G actually friends, G doesn't seem to have friends or H doesn't really pay attention to so didn't really know her (projecting and obsession whooo)

what do you think about Luna and Ginny so-called friendship and possibly ship?

I'm not a big fan of Linny because I think Luna deserves better.

Again, anyone can ship whatever and this is just how I see the characters and their interactions + my own personal taste.

Like, Ginny definitely thinks there is no chance Harry would like Luna, she doesn't see her as a romantic threat the way she sees Cho. And this leads me to believe Ginny doesn't particularly respect Luna. I mean, Ginny thinks Cho is pretty, good and Quidditch and she likely knows Harry liked her. Luna, on the other hand, even though Harry took her to Slughorn's Party is not seen as a threat because she isn't good at Quidditch or as pretty (probably).

(I mean, Harry tends to be very judgmental of people's looks and he doesn't imply Luna looks bad, just odd due to her accessories mostly. So she probably looks fine. That being said, Harry never calls Ginny "pretty" either, so...

The girl beside the window looked up. She had straggly, waistlength, dirty-blond hair, very pale eyebrows, and protuberant eyes that gave her a permanently surprised look.

Ginny does introduce Luna as weird and calls her Loony, so, I definitely don't think they were friends pre-OotP.

“What are you talking about?” said Ginny, who had squeezed past Neville to peer into the compartment behind him. “There’s room in this one, there’s only Loony Lovegood in here —” Neville mumbled something about not wanting to disturb anyone. “Don’t be silly,” said Ginny, laughing, “she’s all right.”

Like, how Ginny talks about her doesn't sound friendly. It sounds demining. Like, she makes polite conversation with her, but she seems to think of Luna as lesser. Like, oh, she's alright, she's just there, like an odd accessory. Idk, their conversations never felt anything other than polite to me.

We do see Ginny, Neville, and Luna hang out later in OotP when they stumble on Harry and Co when they're about to head to the ministry, so I think there is some comradery there that grows throughout OotP.

Additionally, Luna does paint Ginny in her mural, but Luna's friend's mural is actually really sad to me. Like, these friendships are more important to her than to the people she drew. Like, out of Hary, Hermione, Ron, Ginny, and Neville, Harry is the one who has the most respect for Luna. even at the beginning when he thinks she's kinda weird, his thoughts are oddly not judgmental. He thinks she's odd, but it isn't attached to judgmental sass (which Harry's the master of). He doesn't mind she says weird shit and actually references it in other conversations, without really thinking anything negative about Luna. Like, I don't see Ginny ever looking up in a Misoltoe and saying there are probably Nargals in it, something Harry does:

“Mistletoe,” said Luna dreamily, pointing at a large clump of white berries placed almost over Harry’s head. He jumped out from under it. “Good thinking,” said Luna very seriously. “It’s often infested with nargles.” Harry was saved the necessity of asking what nargles were by the arrival of Angelina, Katie, and Alicia. All three of them were breathless and looked very cold.

(OotP, 453)

“Mistletoe,” said Cho quietly, pointing at the ceiling over his head. “Yeah,” said Harry. His mouth was very dry. “It’s probably full of nargles, though.”

(OotP, 456)

Harry doesn't know what Nagrals are, but he doesn't care. He wants to ask Luna what they are and doesn't immediately claim they don't exist the way Hermione, Ron, Ginny, and Neville do. Ginny is just not open-minded enough to truly respect Luna and how she sees things and the world.

I think the main reason we think of them as friends is that they don't really hang out enough to blow this image. I mean, in book 7 they do lead what remains of the DA together:

“Well, it got more difficult as time went on,” said Neville. “We lost Luna at Christmas, and Ginny never came back after Easter, and the three of us were sort of the leaders.

(DH, 488)

However, because Ginny doesn't see Luna as a real threat to her relationship with Harry, I think it shows that some of that lack of respect is still there. Like, I believe Ginny, Neville, and Luna grow closer over book 7 due to the circumstances, but I don't see any signs Ginny actually respects Luna as an equal. I think she's alright with her, but looks down on her, and Luna doesn't notice it much due to how desperate she is to have friends.

So, I'm not a fan of Linny because I don't see Ginny really getting Luna, nor does she seem to see her as an equal. And Luna deserves someone who'd be willing to look at the world the way she sees it, or at least be open-minded enough to not think negatively of her for that — neither are things Ginny is.

As for whether Ginny has other friends Harry doesn't notice, I'd say yes and no. Like, she probably has 'friends' of her own she hangs out with and talks to in classes, does homework with and such, but I don't think she has any close friends that she really trusts. I mean, in HBP, when Harry mentions she doesn't usually hang out with them at school, she goes to sit with Dean:

“Fancy trying to find a compartment?” “I can’t, Harry, I said I’d meet Dean,” said Ginny brightly. “See you later.”

(HBP, 136)

Not any friends she hangs out with in classes or does homework with. Her relationship with Dean is relatively new, so he can't be her usual friends.

We also see that when she has real things that concern her and she wants advice for (like getting together with Harry) she asks Hermione:

“I never really gave up on you,” she said. “Not really. I always hoped. . . . Hermione told me to get on with life, maybe go out with some other people, relax a bit around you, because I never used to be able to talk if you were in the room, remember?

(HBP, 647)

You could say it's because Hermione is Harry's friend and therefore would know how to answer best about Harry, but I think she really does lack close friends of her own. I think she gets along well enough with most of Gryffindor, but I wouldn't call most or any of her friendships close. At least, not from what we see.

So, I don't think Ginny and Luna are as close as fanon makes them out to be. I think they only really started hanging out in book 5 (their 4th year) and that Ginny never (at least in the books) really saw Luna as an equal to her (or Hermione for that matter, who she seems to respect more). Like, I can't imagine Ginny ever asking Luna for advice. So I can't really see them as a pairing that works without changing either Ginny's or Luna's personality.

I am in the middle of compiling some data for an analysis of Luna Lovegood's portrayal in the books (spoiler alert: shit's grim and jkr sucks) and I noticed something interesting, namely: the only people we ever witness calling Luna "loony" in the books are Gryffindors*.

During the course of the narration we are told that multiple people use the "loony" moniker but this mostly occurs off-screen yet somehow all the instances we do end up being shown directly fall exclusively under the umbrella of friendly fire.

The very first thing I observed while going through Luna's appearances in the books is just how many people she doesn't interact with:

PT1: SLYTHERINS

It's a common trope in fics to have people like Draco (and the Slytherins in general) act somewhat callously towards Luna. In reality, not only does Luna never get called names by a Slytherin, she never even speaks to one.

The only instance I could find of Luna being in the general vicinity of a Slytherin occurs during the DA vs Inquisitorial Squad kerfuffle in Umbridge's office during OotP and even then her situation, compared to that of her Gryffindor compatriots, is extremely mild:

Compare and contrast with Neville (who at that very moment is getting the daylights choked out of him by Vincent Crabbe) or Hermione (locked in a vicious battle with Millicent Bulstrode) and you get the impression that no Slytherin in that room seems to hold particularly strong feelings towards Luna.

PT 2: HUFFLEPUFFS

I could only place luna in the general vicinity of a Hufflepuff (outside of DA lessons, which are only described in passing) once, during the battle of hogwarts in DH, when she, Ernie Macmillan and Seamus Finnigan save the day via patronus.

PT 3: RAVENCLAWS

While we do see Luna, a Ravenclaw, in the general vicinity of other Ravenclaws more than once, this mostly happens as they sit together in either the great hall or the quidditch stands; neither of those cases tells us much about Luna's relationship with her housemates.

There's a couple of instances in OotP where Cho is coming over to talk to Harry and Luna happens to also be nearby. The two never speak to each other, however, and Cho herself doesn't seem to know a whole lot about Luna (she is unaware of Nargles, which we can all agree is Vital Luna Information).

The closest Luna comes to an actual conversation with another Ravenclaw is an off-screen discussion she is implied to have had with Padma Patil. When speaking to Harry during their first meeting, she mentions that Padma disliked being Ron's date to GoF's yule ball:

This implies that, at the very least, she was in the same room as Padma when she expressed these feelings. Parvati, Padma's Gryffindor twin, is actually shown to interact with Luna more than her sister, as we see her engage in some light Luna bullying. Speaking of, here's one of the most egregious instances of harassment we see in the books:

We are not told anything else about said bullies, only that the things they steal "always come back in the end". This could be interpreted as the actions of some unnamed Ravenclaws (if we assume that the stolen items came from her dorm room) but the text remains rather vague on the specifics. Still, we can all agree that stealing something from someone is very different from calling them names; it's different flavors of bullying, yes, but one is decidedly more direct (and no one is more direct than a Gryffindor).

PT 4: GRYFFINDORS

You know who, in complete contrast to the absolute nothingness I have just described from the other houses, IS shown to interact regularly with Luna? The Gryffindors, who don't exactly cover themselves with honor:

Luna here has come over to the Gryffindor table to do something extremely nice for Harry, showing her support at a time when very few people seem to believe his assertions. Throughout their conversation Parvati and Lavender (and the Gryffindor table in general) are shown to act extremely cattily towards Luna because of her looks (this is part of jkr's general vilification of girly girls but that's neither here nor there).

As I said before, Gryffindors are the only people we can observe calling Luna "loony". Here's our culprits:

Ginny Weasley (1 "loony")

Ginny and Luna's canon relationship is a whole can of worms I'm not prepared to open here. To make a long story short, however, I'd say that it's a great overstatement to call them friends.

Luna is introduced to us by Ginny, who not only does not use her given name, but acts quite dismissively towards her: "it's only Loony Lovegood in here" is the actual quote and it's also our first use of "loony".

In all of their interactions, Ginny is shown to be amused by Luna's antics but does not act terribly sympathetic towards her; through her actions, which often consist of laughing behind Luna's back, we get the impression that she finds Luna to be inadvertently entertaining, not exactly Friendship Of The Year material.

It must be said, however, that Ginny is also the only person in the books to challenge the use of "loony"; This happens once off-screen (and is implied to be a recent development) at the end of OotP:

We are not told who actually calls Luna "loony" but it's implied to have been someone in their year.

Ginny defends Luna's honor once more, during HBP:

so I'd say that, while we, as a fandom, tend to make Ginny and Luna out to be better friends than they actually are in canon, Ginny is shown to be more proactive in her defence than anyone else (tldr: I still ship them and you can't do anything to stop me).

Ron Weasley (1.5 "loonys")

Ron's opinion of Luna improves as the books progress but his general view of her as an oddity remains consistent. That said, Ron's first "loony" happens whilst he's in an addled state as the result of some Mystery of Magic hijinks in OotP so I cut him some slack:

The next "loony", however, is said rather mean spiritedly:

This happens during HBP, when Harry asks Luna to accompany him to Slughorn's party. There's no additional context to it and the subject of the conversation gets changed rather quickly to Hermione but it's still rather shitty of Ron to resort to name calling when Luna just saved his sorry hide not six months before.

Harry Potter (2 "loonys")

Harry's attitude towards Luna, like Ron's, also improves drastically as the story progresses. Despite this, he still manages to call her loony twice, more than any other character:

This takes place during Harry and Luna's first meeting, on the train to Hogwarts at the beginning of OotP. In this instance, Harry is embarrassed to be seen hanging out with her by his crush. By HBP, though, Harry has evolved on his stance and actively defends Luna (and Neville) when he once again sits with them on the train:

Congrats to Harry on his character growth. I would also like to point out that Romilda's behaviour is yet another instance of general Gryffindor shittyness towards Luna.

Harry's other remaining "loony" happens whilst he's still in the process of learning to like Luna so, while he does use the term, he immediately corrects himself. Nice one Harry!

I wouldn't personally mention Nargles and Luna Lovegood when my crush attempts to kiss me but that's probably just a me thing.

PT 5: CONCLUSIONS

So there you have it. At the end of the day, the preponderance of "loony" instances by Gryffindors is easily explained by the fact that Harry, our narrator, is a Gryffindor himself and we are mostly shown things that happen in his presence.

Nevertheless, I think it's rather interesting that JKR, as the author, did not choose to have other people use the moniker, especially evil, nasty people we are not supposed to like. I am very surprised, for example, by the general absence of interactions between Luna and the Slytherins since we are supposed to view them negatively and JKR is generally rather unsubtle in showing that to the reader.

I think this is, in part, because JKR herself doesn't seem to have a terribly flattering view of Luna as a character. I am reminded of this great meta, which elaborates on one of my biggest gripes with JKR as an author, which is: when push comes to shove, JKR's writing reads meanly. I talked about something similar here, when discussing her treatment of Neville, and I wish I could stop being constantly disappointed by these realisations but somehow I always am.

*= Gryffindors are the only humans to call Luna "loony". Peeves does so exactly once, when he overhears Harry asking her to Slughorn's party in HBP:

As it goes, it was really simple...until it became clear he wasn't traveling back in time alone. Now the whole plan has to change.

It was a work in progress, but plans hadn't worked out well for Harry in the past regardless. Oh well, it's not like he could make things worse...

My Review:

Absolutely hilarious on so many levels while also portraying a deeply traumatized 27 year old Harry Potter dealing with PTSD, chronic pain, and seeing the faces of deceased loved ones at every turn.

Percy/Harry isn’t a pairing I’d seen before, but I fell for their dynamic in this almost immediately. At first, you think Harry’s the unhinged one, but it quickly becomes clear that there’s more to Percy than we (and Harry) know. That being said, they’re very domestic for a Dark Lord and his partner and it’s adorable.

My favorite things about this fic, in no particular order:

Neville’s while deal

Implied Kreacher/Winky/Dobby who all agree that Harry is an idiot who requires all the mother henning

Percy<3

How the author handles Luna’s quirks

Harry and Snape’s friendship (Harry being a little shit at Snape)

Hi! I hope you can help me find this. I remember very specific scenes but none are Drarry and idk if it was deleted or I just can't find it

I think it was longish AO3 fic, post-battle of Hogwarts, Luna and Blaise were dating but that's minor and we don't really find out till almost the end (I don't think it was tagged)

Pansy and Blaise had distanced themselves from Draco because of the whole Death eater reputation by the time Harry comes into the picture. Draco starts to be friends with Hermione and I believe they worked together. Draco had an office but I can't remember if it was ministry or in his house.

Draco receives letters from P and B but refuses to open them because while he understands why he feels betrayed.

He opens the letters cause Harry tells him Blaise had mentioned Draco was a great friend to have and sort of implied he missed him, and that's when we find out that Blaise and Luna are dating.

After that Draco reads the letters and mention at some point that if he really needs an apology that is the apology, but Blaise does rewrite his apology because Luna insists and he makes a comment on her reading over his shoulder to make sure it's a proper apology. Pansy writes to him about being offended he started to be friends with Hermione and how he must get over not talking to her.

Once they do talk again Draco calls Luna "Loony" and Blaise tells him to not call her that and smacks him, Draco mentions how they all smacked each other and Pansy was the only one that wasn't touched which reminds him on how things used to be.

I know I didn't give a lot of Drarry plot but they were definitely happening too, I hope you can help.

Hi there! So I had a tumblr account for almost ten years, but for some odd reason tumblr decided to just refuse to let me log into it so I had to start fresh :( Now with places like Amino and Quotev becoming obsolete for rp partners, I was kind of lost on where to look next. So, I'm not sure if this is going to work, but here I am!

This account is still pretty new so I'll have more posts about my rules and characters as time goes on, but for now, I just wanted to make a big masterlist request that includes my rules and fandoms!

Rules

I am a literate-advanced literate roleplayer! I can work with semi-lit or novella sometimes, but my replies are usually between 150-350 words per character, but can that change depending on context and setting. Proper punctuation and spelling are VERY important!

I don't have many strong triggers, and I can handle implied or referenced subjects such as s/a, ab*se, substance use, and g*re for the sake of character/plot background and development! However, I will refuse to glorify or write any of those topics among other disturbing ones in a romanticised light.

PLEASE be 18+! I am 20 years old and am not comfortable roleplaying with minors, even if it's SFW!

I primarily only do romance themed roleplays, but the subgenre can range from slice of life or historical! I do not enjoy horror or apocalyptic roleplay plots.

“autistic luna” this, “autistic luna” that, can we talk about how hermione was autistic coded pls?

I mean... yes? It's definitely something I've thought about but I haven't really talked about it because I'm aware of my habit of making headcanons that all of my favourite characters are autistic (Dano!Riddler, Robin from ST etc), but yes, I've definitely considered that Hermione is autistic-coded.

Let me just be clear from the beginning: Do I think that R*wling intentionally wrote Hermione as autistic or autistic-coded? Absolutely fucking not. That woman can't write autism for shit, as she's proven with her Strike books; she didn't write Newt as autistic intentionally, nor did she write Luna as autistic intentionally, and I'm not giving that nightmare the credit for any autistic-coded characters in her works because she doesn't deserve it.

With that out of the way, let me discuss autistic!hermione.

One of most obvious things we all know about Hermione is her love of studying; it very much seems that upon finding out she was a witch, she threw herself into that world and learned all that she could about it. By the time she was on the train to Hogwarts for her first year, she had literally read all of the assigned text books and even knew a few basic spells. This is in part due to the fact she wanted to fit in with the Wizarding World - it's implied that she didn't really have any muggle friends pre-Hogwarts, she was probably ostracised for being such a "know-it-all", and it's clear that she wanted to fit in at Hogwarts, to find a place where she belonged, hence why she threw herself into it (and also because of her love of learning of course). You can see that she was desperate not only to learn as much as possible but also to make friends; if she didn't care about being accepted and making friends, Ron's comment about "no wonder she hasn't got any friends" wouldn't have hurt her nearly as much.

While a love of studying certain topics and a desire to fit in aren't solely autistic traits, they are ones that autistic people do seem to experience, myself included. Speaking from experience, I want to fit in and make friends because I feel lonely, and I see that everyone else around me seems comfortable/to have found people they can be around and trust, and I wish I had that. I find friendships very difficult to build and maintain, because I don't know how to talk to people or how to get them to like me, and I feel deficient in that area. Again, that's probably an experience non-autistic people can relate to as well, but from what I can tell it seems to be very common among us.

Another reason I think Hermione could be autistic-coded is that she seems to display a lack of empathy for others at times; a prime example of this is when Lavender's rabbit, Binky, died. Lavender was - quite understandably - sobbing about it, especially given that Binky was only a baby and that he was killed by a fox. Instead of offering any kind of sympathy or empathy, Hermione instead lectured her (and everyone else) about how Trelawney wasn't actually a seer, analysing how Trelawney didn't predict the bunny's death - she was more interested in proving that Divination sucked because it was her worst subject, like she had to have some kind of win over Trelawney/Divination. And while I understand her logic, she was sort of right, choosing that very moment - when one of her dorm-mates was sobbing over her dead pet - was not the best time to voice it. There's also her utter disregard for Ron's feelings over "Scabbers"; she had this "he's never really cared that much about Scabbers anyway" "he's an old rat anyway" kind of mentality that just displayed no kind of attempt to understand his feelings. The fact that Hermione became a pet owner herself just a few months before all of this also goes to show her lack of empathy/sympathy, the fact that despite owning an animal now she still was unable to do the socially acceptable thing and show empathy/sympathy instead of logic. Hermione is certainly not emotionless by any means, but there are definitely times where she seems so absorbed by her own ideas and thoughts/feelings that she's oblivious to other people's.

Not all autistic people are like this, of course, and not all people who display a lack of empathy or sympathy are necessarily autistic, but it's another thing to consider. While I like to think of myself as being a bit too empathetic, there are many times where I've appeared selfish and too caught up in my own head/feelings to regard other people's feelings or how best to approach being there for them. It's not because I don't care for them, it's just that I'm so caught up in my own thoughts and how I'm feeling that I often don't think twice about how someone else must be doing - and I'd say it's the same for Hermione, because while she doesn't seem to feel particularly strongly either way about Lavender in PoA, we know she definitely cares for Ron because he's one of her best friends (and love interest but if anything it was probably more a crush than anything else in third year)

Some more things that I'm too exhausted to discuss properly because I'm suffering severe burnout right now:

Hermione is very blunt and to the point, she doesn't sugarcoat things or mince words at all

It's mentioned that she talks very fast, to the point where during their first interaction Harry's like "did she even breathe during that speech?!?!", which is usually what I do when I infodump on people because I want to get all of my words out before I'm interrupted or forget them

An extremely good memory, she remembers so much of what she reads in books; the only reason I don't think it's photographic is because she read about Flamel and then later didn't remember it immediately when the trio were searching for information on him until Harry found him mentioned on the back of Dumbledore's Chocolate Frog card.

It's worth mentioning that she panics in dangerous situations and seems to forget things; "oh we don't have any wood to build a fire", for example, and then Ron had to remind her that she's a witch and can literally just use magic - something you'd think she'd remember given that she not only set Snape on fire that year but also created flames to put in jars during the winter

Hermione seems to be brilliant at spells and magic that require precision, but then she struggles with spells/magic that require some creativity and imagination like the Patronus charm - she's a logical thinker and so struggles with emotional charms

This links to what I said above about a lack of sympathy/empathy and her struggle making friends, but she definitely lacks social awareness; she constantly butts into other people's conversations and business, speaks her mind abrasively, and critically

Hermione taking on way too many classes in PoA, struggling to keep on top of it all, and snapping at anyone who came near her; struggling to manage things is is commonly found among many of us with autism since we can often only handle a certain amount of sensory input before we get overwhelmed.

Her reluctance to even consider other people's views/beliefs, eg. Luna's belief in strange or bizarre sounding creatures. She may have technically been right, but she was rude to Luna about it and didn't even want to consider why someone may have an opposing view. Hermione is so set in what she believes in, and what she believes in is logic and hard evidence.

I also recently found out that Emma Watson was apparently diagnosed with combined/hyperactive type ADHD as a child; while autism and ADHD are two different things, sometimes there's an overlap and sometimes people have both, so it's not outside the realm of possibility that any autistic/neurodivergent traits in movie!Hermione are partly down to this.

I'd be interested to hear other people's thoughts and if people want to add onto this post because it's been a long time since I read the books properly, and its also 1:30am here so I'm going to bed to try and get a few hours sleep!
