HeywI love your art 💕 I was wondering: what is your favorite version of Lucifer, in terms of character design? (Sandman/Sandman TV/Vertigo..)

honestly, lucifer's character design varies so much based on who draws him, not just the comic/adaptation version, imo. i think i did a post like this before actually

in general my favorite versions of lucifer are the ones that emphasize the angel part, and the ones that emphasize the Gender. so i prefer versions of lucifer where his hair is a bit longer, and he's not a Buff Dude. i like when his design is a little more neutral

hence, my favorite versions of lucifer include (not really ordered since i like them for different reasons)

lucifer (nirvana). if i were to pick what lucifer looks like irl, i'd pick this version

i really like marc hempel's lucifer, from sandman. the little devil horns are cute, and i really really like how he's kind of, small? so many artists draw lucifer as Buff Male, and i appreciate that hempel draws him as. Not that. i could kick him in the shins.

lee garbett's lucifer is also very good. the eyelashes / eyeliner are 11/10 and his smirk gives me life. also the crayon thing utterly sends me and i love it so much

jill thompson's lucifer. like this is literally perfect. the eyelashes are flawless. also jill thompson's version of morpheus is one of my favorite depictions of him btw

gwendoline christie does SUCH an amazing job. like as a gay i think she is very cool and i love the way she's playing the character. the Gender of it all is also so good. i am watching respectfully i am enamored with the emotion she's putting into the character and also the Height is . Excellent. (and that one image in the red robe? oghgghgohgohg)

i'm mehh about other character designs from the lucifer (2000) series and sandman. frankly i really don't like a lot of the sandman design -- he's very Muscled sometimes. and he's just so...Cis Male-Coded in the art, while he's pretty explicitly not either? so i'm not a big fan of most of the lucifer series character art of him.

the covers, on the other hand, can be really lovely. like . the one where he's being carried by death. (for lucifer 2016, the best cover is the one w mazikeen and lucifer having a tender moment)

i'm also of the opinion that tom ellis is fun and cool, but the lucifer tv series really really feels soo different from sandman lucifer, so like, not really the same character? lucifer from wicdiv has a very good design tho -- not the same character but very good vibes nonetheless

i also don't realllyyyy like the lucifer (2018) version -- or rather, i liked him in the beginning w the beard, but later he just felt very. idk, the sharp acrylic nails are a Lot. that being said, i think theres something to be said about the idea of him having to rebuild his entire body while in agony, and what that form looks like because it was built while he was in a very vulnerable, hurt mindset. like, he's sharp and pointed and it fits with the character being harsh and violent in that moment, as a reaction to being imprisoned.

since lucifer is a very metaphysical character, there are some interesting character design bits that stick out to me that are his choices, e.g., his hair color. it seems to me that his hair is a sort of ginger, but that he sometimes alters it to be blond (this can be seen in lucifer #8 p. 19 when he comes back to lux). i don't have much of an explanation for this, but it's an expression of how he presents himself in the human world

his eye color. some artists draw it blue, some draw it gold; i personally like the interpretation that they're more gold when he's emotional & there's some more Power there.

his wings, too. it's clear he has a choice what type of wings to have, since it changes between panels -- i think it's most interesting to analyze when it changes, and what that reflects. for example, his wings become batlike when he and michael are falling into yggdrasil and remain so for a long time -- reflecting his emotional state throughout that part of the series.

the thing i will never wrap my head around is introducing sylvie as a frankenloki & then giving her absolutely no depth despite her being the key protagonist of season 1... like mike must hate women for the fact that

1) all the tva women of color are sidelined immediately (at least the two w the most prominent & interesting roles/backgrounds) for a white ladies development

2) you can count all the tva lady agents we see onscreen w one hand

3) frankenloki aka sylvie has a bunch of gaps for a character like where’d she get blonde hair dye. if ure hellbent on revenge why are u making stops at wallmart 2 get a box of hair bleach. where’d she get asgardian leather but SPECIFICALLY for her top (she’s wearing baggy pants & combat boots w that ensemble??? which as i say it also sounds like those corny wattpad “put my hair in a messy bun, wore my combat boots” fanfic outfits 😭), why and how did she get the AoA loki horns, she didn’t have them when she was taken. if she hates the loki association why’s she wearing the horns & the color green which is... the biggest target to be perceived as loki

4) if she’s an important part of the self love metaphor romance why does she always make this face “😐🤨🤢😐🤨😐” when loki talks (berating him & betraying him in the end aside ofc!)

5) why do we not know her nexus event? why do we not know why she chose the name sylvie? why does she have no prominent character traits outside of having a vagina? why is she cis? why did she get taken at the tender age of an elementary schooler but not when she was born if her crime was being born a girl?

6) has mike waldron ever met, spoken to, or seen a woman? has he engaged in critical, intelligent conversation with anyone, really?

7) can i be emotionally compensated by disney for simultaneously the most BORING (how do you make.. the god of mischief & tricks... boring is beyond me) and convoluted overstuffed show for wasting my time?

I don't know that Mike hates women, but I do think, based on his interviews and the resulting product he made, that:

1) It was certainly a choice to make the two prominent black female characters slaves to a fascist organization and one essentially a leader of it. A choice I don't think anyone involved in creating this show spent a second to think about.

I don't think they were necessarily sidelined on purpose, however. I just think it's an inevitable by-product of the show's terrible pacing and even worse writing. That scene one between B-15 and Renslayer, a scene I think was ultimately a waste of time, made me think that they probably did want to highlight at least those two characters on their own merit. They failed, of course, in the end, and with the set-up I think the intention or lack of intention doesn't really matter since we get what we get, you know?

It's not really a shinning example of giving your characters of color time and care, either, but I do have to highlight B-15's moment of doubt, a scene I think Wunmi Mosaku absolutely killed (seriously, everyone needs to check out her other work, she is effort and talent personified.).

Besides that, if you ask me, no character in this show has any real development anyway, including Sylvie. It is an uneven display of screen-time because obviously she's a main over everyone else but, like, can it even be said that Sylvie particularly benefited from it? I don't really think so. As you said, she has no depth, she is just an empty girlboss fantasy, and the diversity in general in this show feels empty to me.

2) I didn't really even want more TVA foot soldiers to be women. It wouldn't be a diversity win so much as just more empty pandering and Marvel's typical (military) propaganda fuel.

3) Sylvie's whole appearance is bullshit from the get-go. They deliberately used comic book references on her to confuse us and make their dumbshit twist of: oh, see, she actually is a Loki variant!

I remember seeing a post essentially saying whoever thinks Sylvie is a Loki variant with 100% certainty is media illiterate lmao, so I guess it worked on some people.

So, you know, IMO, it doesn't matter that it doesn't make sense for her to wear Loki's signature colors and the iconic AoA head-wear, she just does because fuck you.

Also, "if ure hellbent on revenge why are u making stops at wallmart 2 get a box of hair bleach." lmaooo - she just wanted to be her own person, you know, visually, but only with her hair and nothing else :)

4) Sylvie so very clearly doesn't even like Loki all that much, certainly not as much as he likes her (she is a girlboss after all, "she's got shit to do!"). It would be funny if it wasn't tragic. I do feel bad for Larry from accounting :(

5) I'm guessing we don't know her nexus event because they kinda never bothered to define what it was and they don't care. Maybe Renslayer saying she doesn't remember her nexus event was supposed to be this moment of like cold truth, or an attempt to hurt Sylvie because she knows but won't tell her, or, you know... actually, who cares.

6) I think Mike has spoken to women and I think he's had plenty of intelligent and critical conversations at his level. Which is a relative zero to a generous one. Perhaps two on a good day.

Idk though, jokes aside, his writing on this series is childish and lazy, his view of Loki is boring and reductive, his original script he used for this show is absolute shit, and that's all I can really say for sure.

7) I wish. The show really is boring when it isn't actively infuriating. It still boggles my mind how this mess even happened. Like, I knew the show would be bad, but this bad? Man oh man.

2. You know what, Otohiko might be into the whole yandere thing, he strikes me as the kind of guy who wants to be protected and he might think Ayato would protect him rather than hurt him and everyone around him.

3. A popular ship, okay! In my opinion, I think Budo had feelings for Raibaru in the past, but he eventually lost them as she started distancing herself from martial arts and he got more absorbed in it as club president. Who knows, maybe it could be a classic Phineas x Isabella "I think that's right around when I started having a crush on you" situation lol. Fanfic inspiration? 👀

4. So are we going by the whole "Midori is a bunch of clones created and controlled by Kaga" thing? Bc I don't know if Kaga would a. Never develop feelings for his creation since he feels a fatherly attachment to it or b. Absolutely create something for the sole purpose of simulating romance. I mean we're pretty sure that Kaga wants to be with Megami (hesitant to say "likes" her since he basically wants to use her for world domination) so I'm leaning towards A personally.

5. Is this a Scooby Snacks joke? pfffffftt, okay, I'll admit I never actually watched Scooby-Doo so I don't know the nutritional value of a scooby snack but if it's anything less than super nutritional, I don't think Sukubi would go for it, sorry

6. As in polyamory or all of them individually? Welllllllll I have written for Megami x Aoi in the past, and given their history I definitely think it's viable. I could also see some pining Kuroko x Megami since Kuroko is the vice president and therefore possibly Megami's closest friend, it's hard to say. I don't think Megami has much romantic chemistry with the other two. BUT. I can also definitely see a situation where the student council are all friends with benefits/in a secret polyamorous relationship to rebel against their strict upbringing 👀

7. Don't tell me it's two genderbends dating each other, I don't care, I think it's cute. Two goth dorks stumbling around each other is way too cute. Nuff said, don't @ me, can't change my mind.

8. This gives me a little bit of eck just because a lot of people think Taro is YandereDev's self insert and they probably think that Taro x Mai would be gross wish fulfillment. However, as an actual fan of a game, I know for a fact that Mai is the real self-insert and Taro is just meant to be the anime protagonist. So yeah, I can definitely see Mai being a DLC rival. Their relationship might just be that though, another special busty woman to add to the harem. They do have a conflicting interest - Mai likes memes but Taro dislikes them (BRB canceling Taro, how do you NOT like memes, jk but still). Taro is neutral on all of Mai's other interests tho so... ¯\_(ツ)_/¯ probably wouldn't really go anywhere imo

Note: This ship will be platonic, so sorry if that’s not what you wanted!! I love this brotherly duo so much and I’m happy someone requested me to write about them. Truly one of the most wholesome relationships in the series imo 💕

Ever since Eddie had met Shin, who helped him solve the mystery about his stolen corpses, he had gone to visit him every night to see what new art pieces he had come up with. Each idea he produced was always beautiful in Eddie’s eyes, seeing that they had the same mindset about tranquil death. Other than just his love for elegance, Eddie also found Shin very sweet and caring towards him. If he got upset, he wouldn’t hit him. He had only raised his voice to Eddie when they first met, otherwise he was always soft-spoken and understanding with him. Even when he had to explain things, he still wouldn’t get upset at Eddie whatsoever. In a way, the young boy felt a sense of security with him, despite knowing almost nothing about the man. Was he being naïve? Did he really want to hurt him? He knew that adults lied often, but Shin didn’t feel like someone who would do that.

Pulling his mask over his head, Eddie began to get ready to sneak out once more. He grabs his boots from beneath a small table where his brothers kept their graveyard equipment, slipping them on before wrapping his scarf around his neck securely. However, when lifting his head to seek for his gloves, they weren’t where he had left them. Eddie’s heart dropped as his mind grew blank. Someone touched his stuff. As if he could feel Eddie’s mind crush, his oldest brother let out a hoarse laughter. Slowly, Eddie turns to see Albert standing with his gloves in hand. Dark circles were beneath his ivy green irises, making them pop from the rest of his face. That being said, those eyes were clearly filled to the brim with rage. It looked like he hadn’t slept for days - maybe he didn’t, Eddie wouldn’t be surprised in the slightest. His messy, tangled hair, the bags underneath his eyes, how pale he was getting, it seemed like his older brother was transforming into a vampire at this point.

“A-Albert…!” Eddie stammered, clearly surprised by the sight of his brother. He was usually asleep by this time after throwing a fit, so the young boy had figured it would be an easy night. His heart started to pound as he realized Albert had all the power in the world to snitch on him.

“What the hell are you doing up so late, Edward?” Albert snickered. He tugs at Eddie’s worn-out gloves as he leans against the door frame. He knew how much his belongings meant to him, so breaking one of them would automatically lead to Eddie flipping out. He was always like that, even as a toddler, which Albert had witnessed.

Eddie gulps, hearing his name spill from Albert’s mouth. Nervously, he fidgets with his scarf while dodging eye contact. “…I-I…I was…I was going t-to check on the graves…”

The older boy chuckles before running his hand through his ginger locks. The smile he had turned into a frown as he began to pull at his own hair, furrowing his eyebrows. Eddie felt his body begin to shake from fear seeing the sudden change in Albert’s face. “Graves, huh? You wanna be the perfect little son for dad, don’t you?” Albert grabs Eddie’s mask, yanking it off while pulling some of his hair on the way. His younger brother winces from his strands being pulled so abruptly, only feeding into Albert’s pent-up frustration. “DON’T YOU, EDWARD?! JUST TO PUT MY FACE IN THE DIRT, JUST TO MOCK ME!”

“Al-Albert, please! Y-You’re gonna wake them up…!”

Realizing his brother was right, Albert shoves him against the table and grabs the ends of his scarf to tighten it around his neck. Eddie tenses up, grabbing his wrist and trying to push him away as much as he could to free himself. Seeing his brother start to fear for his life, Albert’s expression grows light again. Happy. “It’s what you deserve,” He whispers, tightening the scarf around his neck even tighter until he begins to struggle harder. “you deserve to fucking die, Edward. No one loves you. No one would even bat an EYELASH if you got put into one of those Goddamn graves you made! NO ONE!”

Eddie’s eyes begin to tear up from gagging, desperately trying to loosen his older brother’s grip on him. Albert laughs hysterically at the sight of him crying, lifting his fist to punch him in the face. Once he feels the joy of hitting him, the older brother releases his grip on the scarf and starts to beat Eddie as hard as he can. When blood started to pour from the boy’s nose, it just made Albert feel so much weight lifted from his shoulders. He wanted more blood. He wanted Eddie to cry more. But what he really wanted was for him to beg for forgiveness. His mind was set on it. He wouldn’t stop until he got his way.

Sketching out the next idea he had for his project, Shin eagerly waits to present it to the little ginger that would come every night. Most of the time he would sit and watch Shin work quietly, if not sketching along beside him about new grave concepts he had. However, once midnight hit and Eddie still hadn’t shown up, Shin grew distracted from his work. He saw the empty stool next to him that usually had the cute boy resting close to his workspace, only to realize that he hadn’t returned. Shin usually wouldn’t mind this, if he hadn’t seen the bruises that were growing on Eddie’s limbs the previous night. Although the boy was always bruised and scraped up from grave-keeping, Shin couldn’t help but to grow a tad bit concerned about the amounts growing day by day.

Thinking about Eddie made Shin’s inspiration grow foggy. He sets his sketch book down and stands from his chair, twirling the pencil around between his fingers. The man had decided to investigate around the floor and make sure Eddie wasn’t playing hide-and-go-seek again. However, once he reached back to where he started, the little boy was nowhere to be found.

“That’s odd…” Shin thought to himself, scratching his head in confusion. He then sat back down at his desk, patiently waiting to see if he would show up. “I wonder if he just slept in. He is a child after all, probably just fell asleep earlier.”

Another hour passes and Shin feels himself beginning to drift off to sleep. He rested his head against his work desk and started to plan out his working schedule for tomorrow before hearing the elevator door creakily open. His head perks up to the sound in hopes that his little friend would be happily skipping toward him as he does every night. However, he was met with something less enthusiastic, a welcoming that was more like an opening to a funeral.

“Sorry I’m late…” Eddie muttered, rubbing his upper arms. Just by his body language, Shin could tell the child was trying to comfort himself by doing so. “…I-I lost track of time…”

Shin doesn’t say anything, giving the masked-boy a worried look. He trudged over to the stool he always sat in, nervously sitting down next to the concerned adult that stared at him. Feeling his eyes prickling at the side of his mask, Eddie eventually turns to face him and makes eye contact. Shin then began to question him.

“It’s alright. Is something wrong?”

“No.”

“You seem frightened. Did the other two do anything that scared you?”

“No.”

“Well, you’re surely not acting as you normally would.”

“I’m just tired.”

Hearing how he answered so quickly and shortly, Shin knew that something was wrong. He had a bad feeling in his stomach that wouldn’t go away, even now that Eddie sat next to him safe and sound. Instinctively, Shin’s eyes begin to sweep up and down Eddie’s body to see if he had more wounds. Although his entire body was almost covered up, he could still see bruises scattered up and down his arms. It then clicked.

“Eddie,” Shin moves closer to the little boy, his face growing stern. “take off your mask for me.”

Eddie doesn’t move for a few seconds. He couldn’t even breathe. Quickly, he put his hands up to his mask and shook his head. “No, no! I don’t wanna, I’m sorry-!”

Shin grabs his wrists, pulling them away from the mask. “Where’s your gloves?” He asks with a raised eyebrow.

“A-Ah…! I must have left them! I was in a rush to get here…” The ginger’s voice wobbles with insecurity. It was obvious he could break into tears at any given moment, but Shin continues with his investigation.

“Why won’t you take off your mask?”

Eddie paused for a moment, trying to think of an excuse, but his mind couldn’t think of one off the top of his head. He nervously takes his hands away from the man, grabbing a pencil from off the table to begin drawing as if nothing was wrong. “…There’s nothing pretty underneath. That’s all.”

Wrapping his arms around Eddie’s waist, Shin pulled him into a tight embrace. Frozen with shock, the little boy sits tense in his arms. “Don’t say that. You’d make beautiful art if you weren’t a fellow artist.” Shin coaxes in a soft and tender tone. He gently lifts his mask from his head from the back, knowing that Eddie wouldn’t budge on the thought of taking it off. He sees Eddie’s ginger curls, his endless number of freckles, and…

“Eddie.”

Eddie clenched his eyes shut just hearing Shin’s voice. He grabs the freckled boy’s cheek and lifts his face up, seeing the huge purple-green bruise on the side of his jaw. At first, his mind didn’t want to process what he was seeing. His nose was flowing blood like a waterfall, glopping down on Eddie’s overalls like paint. He quickly covers his nose with his arm to prevent the blood from spraying anywhere else.

Tears began to fill the young boy’s eyes as he choked them back. It wasn’t because of the pain. It wasn’t because of his brother. It was because he was so embarrassed to show Shin what he was going through. Even though it was clearer than tracing paper what was happening to him, he grew nervous that Shin wouldn’t believe him if he said anything.

Eddie attempts to stand up on his own, but Shin manages to grab his arm to lead him into the next room urgently. The adult’s face was caked with worry, almost as if Eddie were his own child, before setting him down in a more comfortable chair by a personal desk. Shin began scurrying around looking for his medical kit he had stored for emergencies as the boy tried his best to keep blood from spewing everywhere.

When he found the metal box that contained all the medical pieces he needed, Shin rushed back towards little Eddie who sat crying uncontrollably. Although he was extremely unfamiliar with caring for children, Shin tried his best to calm the boy by cupping his cheek in the palm of his hand, smiling reassuringly. Eddie’s rapid tears began to slow as he gazed back into Shin’s eyes, sniffling up some blood.

“I’m going to help you.” Shin informs him, reaching inside the kit to grab a few tissues. He rests the white material against Eddie’s nose, preventing more blood from dripping onto his clothes. Eddie doesn’t reply to what he said, instead grabbing his arm that held the tissues up to his rounded nose. Shin felt his small fingers tremble around his arm as he gently gripped onto it, most likely for reassurance. “It’s okay, don’t cry anymore.” Eddie’s eyes were still watery, but he nodded to ensure Shin knew he was listening.

In the meantime, Shin examines Eddie’s body for any other kind of wounds, seeing that he was mostly bruised up without many opened wounds. With a hesitant look plastered on his face, Shin looked up at the boy, who seemed to grow calmer with every second. “Eddie, could I see your body for any other wounds?”

. . .

Eddie squinted his eyes. “You want me to get naked?” He asks, his voice wavering from his nose being covered.

“I’d rather you not do that. At all.” Shin sighed, seeing that Eddie was coming back to his playful nature.

“Ehehe, I was joking.” He snickers, letting go of Shin’s arm that still held the tissues up to his nose, and took his scarf off. “He was hurting my neck the most today…usually he goes for the tummy.”

“Who is he, may I ask?” Shin lifts Eddie’s chin, having the young boy hold the tissues to his nose by himself as he examines his bruised neck.

“…I can’t tell you that, mister.” Eddie’s voice was squeaky, his nose still clogged. “No one knows but me!” Shin’s long hair drifted into his face as he gave Eddie a stern look. The ginger shuddered at his piercing eyes, caving in almost instantly afterward. “…My big brother, Albert. He’s been beating me up every night.”

“What? Didn’t you say he was fifteen? He should know better!”

Eddie anxiously crossed his ankles underneath his chair, smiling weakly. “I don’t mind it, really. Tonight was just really bad. He was just upset…”

Shin raised an eyebrow. “Are you saying you let him beat on you when he’s angry?”

The ginger paused for a moment, glancing side to side. He was embarrassed to answer. “…Mhm…I-I’m strong enough to fight back, of course! I-I-I’m really strong! I’m not just a little ki-!”

“Then why don’t you fight back?”

Eddie’s tongue got caught by the cat. He wanted to tell Shin everything at that very moment. His pets, the graveyard, the tradition, the hand-me-downs, but nothing came out of it. He just stared at Shin as he stared back. “…Because…if it’s not me…then someone else would have to get hurt…I don’t want my brothers or any of the pets getting beat up…! I’d…I’d rather take the punishment myself.”

Shin’s heart strings were yanked out of his chest. Selfless. Eddie was completely selfless. He didn’t care about the pain; he didn’t care whatsoever about his condition. He was concerned about others. Gently, as to not hurt his bruises, Shin wrapped his arms around the little boy. Eddie, once again, felt tense. It wasn’t because he was uncomfortable, it was just so unusual. However, he knew Shin wouldn’t hurt him in any way. So, with a weak smile, he hugged him tighter than ever.

“Ah, you’re trembling.”

“Thank you…” Eddie glumly mutters. His face was piping hot from embarrassment. He didn’t realize he was shaking, or that Shin would notice it. He probably seemed so weak. And that alone made him really embarrassed.

Shin shakes his head, laughing just a bit. “Oh, don’t be embarrassed about it. You’re just nervous. Everyone gets nervous jitters sometimes. Especially if they…were just hurt…” he drags the last sentence out sadly.

The ginger huffs, turning away. “I can handle it. I’m not a lil kid.” He then looks up at Shin, seeing his charming smile meeting right back at him, unaffected by Eddie moving away from the embrace. “…but…sometimes it gets really bad. And…um…”

“You can tell me.” Shin grabs his bruised up hands, which were surprisingly soft for working with stone material.

The boy hesitates before continuing. “It makes me feel…sad, is all. I love my brother…but I don’t think he loves me…” Even though he was the one to say it, Eddie’s throat began to get choked up by tears. It hurt too deeply when he thought about it. Soon, the tears began to fall again. “I-I wish he would love me back like he used to…that’s all…”

Shin wasn’t familiar with comforting children, but found it quite easy to assure the boy one thing. “Your brother does love you.” Eddie’s heart began to pump harshly in his chest from hearing those words. He didn’t understand why he would say such a thing, despite the truth being so clear. However, he doesn’t deny him. “From what I’ve heard, I believe your brother is a hurt person. Fifteen years old and hurting his little ten year old brother…something is clearly wrong with him emotionally. If I were to guess, he may be jealous of your talent.”

“My talent?” Eddie repeats that phrase. Now that he thought about it, Albert was supposed to take over the business, but Eddie always took the spotlight with his lovely graves. Was that why he would hurt him so brutally?

Shin nods. “This isn’t an excuse to let him beat you, though. You should tell your mother or father.”

“No!” Eddie cries. “If I tell them, then I’ll really get beat up!”

“What? But your parents should stop that before it happens.”

“They won’t…they never do. My dad…he beats Al up when he starts throwing a tantrum outside his room. So, it doesn’t fix anything anyway.”

Now, Shin didn’t know much about parenting, but what he did know was that beating your kid wasn’t the best option to punish them. Especially not in front of the other children. One side, he felt bad, but the other was just ticking with anger. Eddie was clearly stressed out and his parents couldn’t notice?! That was just neglect! All the wounds scattered on his body, how tired he seemed, how come no one saw it? It was terrible.

“…I’m sorry. I started rambling.” Eddie mumbled, playing with his pant sleeve to dodge eye contact with the adult. Shin doesn’t answer him but gives him a soft head pat and smile to show that he wasn’t upset.

Eddie leans in toward the touch, smiling weakly. At least he had a friend like Shin by his side.

My favorite parent-child relationship

Henriette and Adeline/Ada-1 is extremely sad but also very interesting. Actually, the whole Black Armory crew's family dynamic is fascinating. Some people say there are no new ideas in fiction but I'm pretty sure "three female weaponsmith doomsday preppers raise child on precipice of apocalypse" has never been done before.

My favorite sibling relationship The Osmium / Hive God siblings and whatever fucked up thing they've got going.

My favorite family relationship (other) This might be a bit abstract but since I interpret it as something approaching a platonic life-partnership: ghosts and guardians in general, The Guardian and Ghost in particular.

My favorite friendship between two people Eris and Asher. You know the meme of the Cat in the Hat behind the kid with the baseball bat? Yeah, that's the writers and my emotions about this friendship. Literally every aspect of it makes my heart hurt in the most painful and best possible way.

Variks and Petra is *chefs kiss* too. I just like sad mixed-gender broTPs, don't judge me.

My favorite friendship between a group Hmm probably The Vanguard? Ikora and Zavala (and Cayde, when he was around) have an underrated dynamic IMO.

A/N: This is so funny to me because I relate so heavy no lie.

Hongjoong:

Okay, so basically

You fall asleep on the couch, waiting for Joong to get home so you could go to dinner together

At some point during your little nap, you fall off of the couch and onto the floor

The only real problem with this is that you are right underneath the lamp

So, the only logical solution to this new problem is to roll under the coffee table

Which you do, and then just fall asleep again, no biggie

When Joongie finally gets home he calls for you like always

Totally expects you to come running, excited for dinner

But, alas, you do not

So, he spends about an hour looking for you all over the place

Kinda starting to freak out

Ends up standing in the living room and pounding your number into his phone

After the first ring, he hears your phone going off in the same room

and then a very loud thud followed by some less than polite vocabulary

He looks down at you, wiggling your way out from underneath the table and stretching for your phone

You notice him, and it’s kinda awkward for a second

you kind of feel like you were caught doing something you shouldn’t be

“Hey”

“hey…”

Then Hongjoong is laughing

like full falling over in tears laughter

Like how dare you judge me for sleeping where I am safe from the light

After he finds his composure, he just tells you to get up so you can get food

And you do, and he doesn’t mention it again

Not in words anyway

But if ever he can’t find you, he always checks under the coffee table first

Seonghwa:

(PRETTY BABYYYYY)

Okay so Seonghwa was gonna be home in about 2 minutes based on his text

So, you decide to try and scare him

Knowing he typically goes to the kitchen first, you situate yourself in a cupboard

There’s literally a pan handle up your ass, but it’s worth it for the prank

Seonghwa’s 2 minutes quickly turn into a half hour

You’ve fallen asleep by then since you had been sitting still for too long

When your boyfriend finally gets home, he’s already shouting apologies into the front hall

“THERE WAS SO MUCH TRAFFIC”

just his excuse to complain no lie

As predicted, he goes straight into the kitchen, still ranting about his day

fully expects you to join him at some point

Did not expect that you would be crawling out from the cabinet though

You heard him yelling once he got into the kitchen and you were like “I guess it’s too late now”

You push the cupboard door open… straight into his shins

“AH OW WTF”

he jumps about 10 feet

so I guess the prank kind of worked??

“WHAT ARE YOU DOING?!”

you just kinda shrug, still a little groggy and sore from being in such a weird position

“were you asleep?”

you nod and yawn and then all of a sudden he’s soft

Scoops you up and plops you on the couch for cuddles

Will definitely make you answer his burning questions later but he’s feeling all snuggly now so it can wait

Yunho:

(Barefaced Yunho im in tears)

When Yunho comes home after work, having stopped and picked up ice cream because he felt he deserved it (AND HE DOES)

Struts around the house with the ice cream balanced on one hand

Hoping to find you and make you laugh

Cannot. Find. You. Arm. Getting. Tired.

Finally puts his arm down, totally defeated

Wanders through the different rooms before he catches a glimpse of your socked foot peeking out from behind the couch

Leans over and sees you fully tucked in, blankets and pillows everywhere

Knocked OUT

He gingerly steps over the couch… jk he tripped

Falls on you

You scream because 1) scary 2) ow

He’s stuttering apologies but also laughing his booty off

Asks what you are doing back there in the first place

“wanted to make a fort but got sleepy”

“FORT FORT FORT”

demands that you get up and help him finish making it

“I’LL GET THE SNACKS”

eventually, he returns with basically the entire fridge

then you set up a movie and snack together and its so cute but then you both end up passing out anyway because the fort is just the comfiest

Yeosang:

ok one thing I will say about Yeosang is I feel like he can pretty much fall asleep anywhere too so he’s not gonna judge you

how you ended up falling asleep on the bathroom counter may remain a mystery forever

you vaguely remember climbing up on it to get a better look at a zit or some other blemish you wanted to get rid of, but after that who knows

Yeosang rushes into the house after work

literally screaming that he’s gonna pee his pants

Runs into the bathroom and slams the door

Scares you and you almost slip off the counter and onto the tile floor

“GET OUT I NEED TO PEE”

you’re barely awake and he’s screaming at you

so confusing but you just kind of waddle out the door and fall into bed

you wait for him to finish and he comes out with a smile

“I’m better now”

“you woke me up you dramatic idiot”

“what do you mean? I didn’t wake you up, you were in the bathr- OHhhh”

You just kinda pout at him and he comes and sits next to you

strokes your hair for a little bit

You’re almost asleep and he can tell

“LETS EAT”

“KANG YEOSANG I SWEAR TO GOD”

and then you’re chasing him around

he is fearing for his absolute life

like he’s gonna suffer the wrath of a thousand suns for waking you up twice

boy better PRAY

San:

In the morning, San had woken you up and coaxed you out of bed with the promise of coffee

he did not tell you that he did not yet go and get the coffee

So, when he skips out the door to pick up your drinks, you literally just drop to the floor in front of the welcome mat

Like I’m sleeping and I don’t care where I just need it

And it was actually a pretty good morning nap until San almost knocks your nose off your face when he swings the door open

At first, he’s kinda worried like… “you good”

And you just scold him for almost killing you with the door

“Not my fault you chose to sleep on the floor. I got your coffee”

Thrusts it into your face

the only thing more bitter than your face is the drink

“you almost killed your sweet sweet baby aren’t you sorry?”

“it’s you’re fault in the first place”

and I mean he’s kinda right but he’s the reason you’re tired

waking you up early with lies… coffee wasn’t even ready yet

so you have a good natured squabble about your sleeping habits and San’s door-opening habits before coming to an agreement

You can only sleep in front of the door when he’s already home

And he can swing the door open with as much dramatic flare as he wants… as long as he can see you are clearly not within range

a perfect compromise imo

Mingi:

Mingi is such a dork okay

when he finds you curled up in front of the oven he starts laughing really loud

shakes you awake because he just has to know what you think you’re doing

You explain, patiently, that you are waiting for your brownies to finish, and that the oven is really warm

Mingi will just nod in agreement and be like “of course, of course. you’re so smart, jagiya”

Gets up and leaves you there for a minute but then returns

He has more pillows and an extra blanket

He also brought your laptop so you could watch a movie

He pulls you into his lap after he sits himself on top of some pillows

Covers both of you in the blankets and then makes you hold the computer on your lap

You fall asleep again within 10 minutes, and although he’s getting sleepy he’s like

Someone has to make sure the house doesn’t burn down

Mingi should not be in charge of this and we all know it

But what can he do?

So he watches the movie for a while before the timer on the oven finally goes off

You snap awake so quickly that Mingi jumps a little

“MY BROWNIES ARE DONE”

and then you eat brownies and cuddle some more

But Mingi is not allowed to have as many brownies as you because you did all the work in the first place so TAKE THAT

Wooyoung:

(hIS SMiLe)

When Wooyoung gets out of the shower after a long day and finds you… not in bed where you should be

He pouts…like a lot

Wanders around for a while

Almost gives up when he catches a glimpse of the hoodie (his hoodie) that you’re wearing

Opens the closet door…was kinda scared not gonna lie lmao

Then he’s LOUD

laughing at you like a crazy person

Screaming at you through his laughter

“WHAT ARE YOU DOING? WHY ARENT YOU IN BED? HOW ARE YOU SLEEPING HERE?”

“WOOYOUNG TAKE IT DOWN LIKE 18 OCTAVES, KID”

whispers, “sorry”

asks you again what you were doing

you just kind of look at him because, to be honest, you don’t really know either

just experimenting with some new bedding, I s’pose

He drags you out of the closet by your heels and forces you into bed where he cuddles you close

you can still feel his chest vibrating from all of the giggling

He never gets over this

every time he finds you sleeping in a new spot, he’s like “FIRST THE CLOSET NOW THIS”

Jongho:

Jongho gets protective when he finds you sleeping in weird places

He doesn’t want you to wake up stiff from being in awkward positions and everything

So when he finds you dead asleep on top of the kitchen table, he is less than surprised

Like he knows you’re a whole ass meal but seriously?

But also lifts you and walks you over to the couch

Sets you down and then just stares at you like a creeper until you wake up

When you do, he’s scolding you straight away

“You’ll hurt your back”

“what if you fell”

“MY GOD WE EAT THERE”

And then you’re laughing because even he knows he’s being dramatic and he always is when you do things like this

“thank you for moving me to the couch, Jongho”

he huffs but he’s like “you’re welcome”

Always tries to make you promise not to sleep in such strange places anymore

“What you do in practice, you’ll do in the game”

“What does that even mean”

“One day we will go out to dinner and then you’ll probably just get on the table and sleep or something”

So dramatic, but he really loves you and everything he says is just out of worry

But every time he scolds you, you both end up laughing at each other

And he secretly has a folder on his phone titled “where is y/n sleeping today?”

i’ve been responding to the prompts so slowly bc school but here’s the one for joe that i didn’t put in the previous ask

Joe

Why I Like Him-

Honestly, this shouldn’t even be a question at this point, he’s hands down my favorite character. I adore the dynamic that he has with Sara, I adore his cheerful and peppy personality, and I adore the fact that he still undergoes realistic questioning of his morals despite being such a kind and generally “good person.” And, as I’ve stated many times before, I think that his death came at the perfect time to impact Sara’s development while also letting him go through a character arc and become a significant enough character for his death to hurt. I,,, I love him so much dhfbhdfbd

Why I Don’t-

There isn’t really a lot here; like I’ve said, he’s just generally a really good character! If I had to pick something, though, I’d say that there are a lot of unresolved suspicions surrounding him from the get-go and I don’t like that they haven’t been resolved yet. Considering how cheerful and trusting he is otherwise, he’s oddly suspicious of Keiji and the others right from the beginning, and is the first to suggest the possibility of a traitor- rather uncharacteristic for what we know of him. Was it just part of his character arc to make him dying due to the Sacrifice card even more sympathetic, or is there more to him? I, personally, really want the “Mr. Policeman is Joe’s dad” theory to be true, so I’m hoping that if we get that reveal, his initial suspicions will tie into that. I’ll be sort of disappointed if they continue to go unresolved.

Favorite Scene-

Honestly, I’ve always adored the scene where Joe and Sara walk home together. In only around 5 minutes, Nankidai is able to characterize them both perfectly (especially Joe), to portray them as close friends who enjoy teasing each other, and to establish that they’re still good friends even though Joe is dating Ryoko. Especially when you go back and play through the game without the initial worry of whether Joe is going to betray you, it’s easy to realize how genuinely sweet and well-written that scene is. I love it a lot :))

Favorite Line-

Because I’m very shitty at remembering lines, I’ll go with the classic one: “I love ya, Sara! You’re my best friend!” I also thought his AI’s line of “I’ll always follow you- just like a dog!” is a pretty funny one.

Favorite Outfit-

I probably won’t include this with everyone else’s but I just want to take a minute to appreciate Joe’s gaudy-ass outfit. He has style. Period. Those earrings? That hairclip? Absolutely iconic, there’s a reason Sara cries every time she sees them after 1-2.

OTP-

LMAO are you kidding me?? Joesara all the way. I also like the concept of Ryojoesara, but I just love their dynamic in-game and how close they are to each other, romantic or platonic. And… I just honestly adore the idea of the two of them together! I love the friends to lovers trope, and their personalities complement each other so well! They’re very sweet.

Brotp-

For this, I’d have to choose between either Gin or Shin. Joe leaning into the “big bro Joe” assignment is so precious, and I’ve always been a sucker for their little exchange where Gin promises to kick his ass in Mario Kart or something. I think he’d make a great big brother to Gin; they could bond over their love of dogs :) I’ve also seen a lot of Nankidai’s sketches of Joe and Shin together, and honestly I think they’d make for great friends- Joe could help pull Shin out of his “loner” persona and they could be buddies! If only </3

Headcanon-

Like I’ve said, I’m really bad at coming up with specific headcanons, but… I hc Joe as bi, he just gives off those vibes. He also probably has Tiktok and tried to get Sara and Ryoko to do Tiktok dances with him for awhile before giving up. Also!! He probably still sleeps with at least one stuffed animal (a stuffed dog would be very on-brand for him) but is self-conscious as hell about it and has only told Sara.

Unpopular Opinion-

This seems to be a pretty unpopular opinion because of how much people love to talk about it, but I really dislike the Mastermind Joe theory. I’ve talked about this before, but I think it’s very implausible; Nankidai’s writing is centric around character development, not the shock value of plot twists. Sacrificing all of Sara’s development throughout Chapter 2 (which consisted of her reacting realistically to her grief and was handled very well imo) would be so counterproductive and it would make the game feel so much cheaper. Perhaps Joe’s AI might be weaponized against her again or it might make future appearances, but I doubt the living Joe will turn out to be evil, much less a conspirator or even mastermind with ASUNARO. It just wouldn’t make sense, and it would honestly ruin his character.

A Wish-

I’ve already mentioned that I want the “Mr. Policeman is Joe’s Dad” theory to be true, so I’m gonna say that I really want my theory about the AI to come true as well. I really want Sara to end up going home with Joe’s AI if she survives, and I want the emotional distress of seeing the fake version of her dead best friend to be evident. Give me that angst, PLEASE </3

Dany is (relatively) frugal and modest

As I was rereading ASOIAF, I made it my goal to compile all* the book passages demonstrating either certain key attributes of Daenerys Targaryen (e.g. that she's compassionate and smart) or aspects of hers that are usually overstated (e.g. that she's ambitious and prophecy-driven). Doing such a task may seem exaggerated, but I'd argue it's not, for many, many misconceptions about Dany have become widespread in light of the show's final season's events (and even before).

It must be acknowledged that it can be tricky to reference, say, ADWD passages to counter-argument how she was depicted in season eight (which allegedly follows ADOS events). Dany will have had plenty of character development in the span of two books. However, whatever happens to Dany in the next two books, I would argue that there is more than enough material to conclude that her show counterpart was made to fall for flaws that she (for the most part) never had and actions that she (for the most part) would never take. (and that's not even considering the double standards and the contradictions with what had been shown from show!Dany up until then, but that's obviously out of the scope of these lists)

Another objection to the purpose of these lists is that Game of Thrones is different from A Song of Ice and Fire and should be analyzed on its own, which is a fair point. However, the show is also an adaptation of these books, which begs the questions: why did they change Dany's character? Why did they overfocus on negative traits of hers or depicted them as negative when they weren't supposed to be or gave her negative traits that were never hers to begin with? Another fact that undermines the show=/=books argument is that most people think that the show's ending will be the books', albeit only in broad strokes and in different circumstances. As a result, people's perception of Dany is inevitably influenced by the show, which is a shame.

I hope these lists can be useful for whoever wants to find book passages to defend (or even simply explore different facets of) Dany's character in metas or conversations.

*Well, at least all the passages that I could find in her chapters, which is no guarantee that the effort was perfectly executed, but I did my best.

Also, people could interpret certain passages differently and then come up with a different collection of passages if they ever attempted to make one, so I'm not saying that this list is completely objective (nor that there could ever be one).

Also, some passages have been cut short according to whether they were, IMO, relevant to the specific topic of the list they're in, so the context surrounding them may not always be clear (always read the books and use asearchoficeandfire). Many of them appear in different lists, sometimes fully referenced, sometimes not.

To justify the existence of this list, let's see examples of widespread opinions that I feel misrepresent Daenerys Targaryen:

Even when Daenerys was kidnapped by a then-hostile Dothraki in season 6, she didn’t look this disheveled. In fact, her hair and outfit were impeccable in the face of relentless desert grit and threatened imprisonment in the Dosh Khaleen. Dany, a woman who has believed she was fated for greatness since birth, has never let herself look anything but perfect. That is, until now. (x)

Dany has not believed she was fated for greatness neither since birth nor as of ADWD. This meta and these lists make it clear enough. But this list is about something else: has Dany "never let herself look anything but perfect"? I would argue that the books tell a very different story.

NOTE: There are few moments in AGOT because Dany is among the Dothraki, so several behaviors that could be considered "frugal" and "modest" are normalized. In other books, she's among other nobles, which highlights these particular traits of her.

A Dance with Dragons

The sun was hot this morning, the sky blue and cloudless. That was good. Dany’s clothes were hardly more than rags, and offered little in the way of warmth. One of her sandals had slipped off during her wild flight from Meereen and she had left the other up by Drogon’s cave, preferring to go barefoot rather than half-shod. Her tokar and veils she had abandoned in the pit, and her linen undertunic had never been made to withstand the hot days and cold nights of the Dothraki sea. Sweat and grass and dirt had stained it, and Dany had torn a strip off the hem to make a bandage for her shin. I must look a ragged thing, and starved, she thought, but if the days stay warm, I will not freeze.

Hers had been a lonely sojourn, and for most of it she had been hurt and hungry ... yet despite it all she had been strangely happy here. A few aches, an empty belly, chills by night ... what does it matter when you can fly? I would do it all again.

The sun grew hotter as it rose, and before long her head was pounding. Dany’s hair was growing out again, but slowly. “I need a hat,” she said aloud. Up on Dragonstone she had tried to make one for herself, weaving stalks of grass together as she had seen Dothraki women do during her time with Drogo, but either she was using the wrong sort of grass or she simply lacked the necessary skill. Her hats all fell to pieces in her hands. Try again, she told herself. You will do better the next time. You are the blood of the dragon, you can make a hat. She tried and tried, but her last attempt had been no more successful than her first.

Once I dreamed of flying, she thought, and now I’ve flown, and dream of stealing eggs. That made her laugh. “Men are mad and gods are madder,” she told the grass, and the grass murmured its agreement.

Dany wedged herself into that corner, making a nest of sorts by tearing up handfuls of the grass that grew around the ruins. She was very tired, and fresh blisters had appeared on both her feet, including a matched set upon her pinky toes. It must be from the way I walk, she thought, giggling.

She wondered how the ants had managed to climb over it and find her. To them these tumbledown stones must loom as huge as the Wall of Westeros. The biggest wall in all the world, her brother Viserys used to say, as proud as if he’d built it himself.

Viserys told her tales of knights so poor that they had to sleep beneath the ancient hedges that grew along the byways of the Seven Kingdoms. Dany would have given much and more for a nice thick hedge. Preferably one without an anthill.

Dany, starved, slid off his back and ate with him, ripping chunks of smoking meat from the dead horse with bare, burned hands. In Meereen I was a queen in silk, nibbling on stuffed dates and honeyed lamb, she remembered. What would my noble husband think if he could see me now? Hizdahr would be horrified, no doubt. But Daario ...

Daario would laugh, carve off a hunk of horsemeat with his arakh, and squat down to eat beside her.

ADWD Daenerys IX

Behind her, Reznak leaned in to whisper in her ear, “Magnificence, hear how they love you!”

No, she knew, they love their mortal art.

ADWD Daenerys VII

Reznak mo Reznak bowed and beamed. “Magnificence, every day you grow more beautiful. I think the prospect of your wedding has given you a glow. Oh, my shining queen!”

Dany sighed.

She sat upon her cushions, listening, one foot jiggling with impatience.

Dany envied the Dothraki maids their loose sandsilk trousers and painted vests. They would be much cooler than her in her tokar, with its heavy fringe of baby pearls. “Help me wind this round myself, please. I cannot manage all these pearls by myself.”

“The day is too hot to be shut up in a palanquin,” said Dany. “Have my silver saddled. I would not go to my lord husband upon the backs of bearers.”

“Your Grace,” said Missandei, “this one is so sorry, but you cannot ride in a tokar.”

The little scribe was right, as she so often was. The tokar was not a garment meant for horseback. Dany made a face. “As you say. Not the palanquin, though. I would suffocate behind those drapes. Have them ready a sedan chair.” If she must wear her floppy ears, let all the rabbits see her.

ADWD Daenerys VI

The bride is dressed in dark red veils above a tokar of white silk, fringed with baby pearls.”

The queen of the rabbits must not be wed without her floppy ears. “All those pearls will make me rattle when I walk.”

“Daenerys, my queen, I will gladly wash you from head to heel if that is what I must do to be your king and consort.”

“To be my king and consort, you need only bring me peace.[”]

Dany hurried off, calling for her handmaids. She would not welcome her captain home in a tokar. In the end she tried a dozen gowns before she found one she liked, but she refused the crown that Jhiqui offered her.

ADWD Daenerys IV

Oft have I heard that yours is the blood of Aegon the Conqueror, Jaehaerys the Wise, and Daeron the Dragon. The noble Hizdahr is of the blood of Mazdhan the Magnificent, Hazrak the Handsome, and Zharaq the Liberator.”

“His forebears are as dead as mine. Will Hizdahr raise their shades to defend Meereen against its enemies? I need a man with ships and swords. You offer me ancestors.”

“Bright queen,” he said, “you have grown more beautiful in my absence. How is this thing possible?”

The queen was accustomed to such praise, yet somehow the compliment meant more coming from Daario than from the likes of Reznak, Xaro, or Hizdahr.

ADWD Daenerys III

“Let us speak instead of love, of dreams and desire and Daenerys, the fairest woman in this world. I am drunk with the sight of you.”

She was no stranger to the overblown courtesies of Qarth. “If you are drunk, blame the wine.”

ADWD Daenerys II

Dany seated herself on a cushion, crossed her legs, and gazed up at him.

The tokar was a master’s garment, a sign of wealth and power.

Dany had wanted to ban the tokar when she took Meereen, but her advisors had convinced her otherwise. “The Mother of Dragons must don the tokar or be forever hated,” warned the Green Grace, Galazza Galare. “In the wools of Westeros or a gown of Myrish lace, Your Radiance shall forever remain a stranger amongst us, a grotesque outlander, a barbarian conqueror. Meereen’s queen must be a lady of Old Ghis.” Brown Ben Plumm, the captain of the Second Sons, had put it more succinctly. “Man wants to be the king o’ the rabbits, he best wear a pair o’ floppy ears.”

The slippers the Butcher King had sent her had grown too uncomfortable. Dany kicked them off and sat with one foot tucked beneath her and the other swinging back and forth. It was not a very regal pose, but she was tired of being regal. The crown had given her a headache, and her buttocks had gone to sleep.

In the afternoon a sculptor came, proposing to replace the head of the great bronze harpy in the Plaza of Purification with one cast in Dany’s image. She denied him with as much courtesy as she could muster.

As Dany stood, her tokar began to slip. She caught it and tugged it back in place.

A Storm of Swords

Her audience chamber was on the level below, an echoing high-ceilinged room with walls of purple marble. It was a chilly place for all its grandeur. There had been a throne there, a fantastic thing of carved and gilded wood in the shape of a savage harpy. She had taken one long look and commanded it be broken up for firewood. “I will not sit in the harpy’s lap,” she told them. Instead she sat upon a simple ebony bench. It served, though she had heard the Meereenese muttering that it did not befit a queen.

Her bloodriders were waiting for her. Silver bells tinkled in their oiled braids, and they wore the gold and jewels of dead men. Meereen had been rich beyond imagining. Even her sellswords seemed sated, at least for now.

“I must have this city,” she told them, sitting crosslegged on a pile of cushions, her dragons all about her.

ASOS Daenerys IV

Dany sat crosslegged on a cushion, and Viserion spread his white-and-gold wings and flapped to her side.

“Do all the Yunkai’i whine so over a singed tokar? I shall buy you a new one ... if you deliver up your slaves within three days. Elsewise, Drogon shall give you a warmer kiss.”

When the old man came, she was curled up inside her hrakkar pelt, whose musty smell still reminded her of Drogo.

ASOS Daenerys I

The narrow sea was often stormy, and Dany had crossed it half a hundred times as a girl, running from one Free City to the next half a step ahead of the Usurper’s hired knives. She loved the sea. She liked the sharp salty smell of the air, and the vastness of horizons bounded only by a vault of azure sky above. It made her feel small, but free as well. She liked the dolphins that sometimes swam along beside Balerion, slicing through the waves like silvery spears, and the flying fish they glimpsed now and again. She even liked the sailors, with all their songs and stories. Once on a voyage to Braavos, as she’d watched the crew wrestle down a great green sail in a rising gale, she had even thought how fine it would be to be a sailor.

But later that night, as Balerion plunged onward through the dark and Dany sat crosslegged on her bunk in the captain’s cabin, feeding her dragons—“Even upon the sea,” Groleo had said, so graciously, “queens take precedence over captains”—a sharp knock came upon the door.

[...] Dany pulled up a coverlet and tucked it in under her arms. She was naked, and had not expected a caller at this hour.

A Clash of Kings

She was breaking her fast on a bowl of cold shrimp-and-persimmon soup when Irri brought her a Qartheen gown, an airy confection of ivory samite patterned with seed pearls. “Take it away,” Dany said. “The docks are no place for lady’s finery.”

"I have won no victories," she tried telling her handmaid when the bell tinkled softly.

Jhiqui disagreed. "You burned the maegi in their house of dust and sent their souls to hell."

That was Drogon's victory, not mine, Dany wanted to say, but she held her tongue. The Dothraki would esteem her all the more for a few bells in her hair.

“I regret if we caused you alarm. If truth be told, we were not certain, we expected someone more ... more ...”

“Regal?” Dany laughed. She had no dragon with her, and her raiment was hardly queenly.

ACOK Daenerys III

Rhaegal hissed and dug sharp black claws into her bare shoulder as Dany stretched out a hand for the wine. Wincing, she shifted him to her other shoulder, where he could claw her gown instead of her skin.

“Weep, weep, for the treachery of men.”

Dany would sooner have wept for her gold. The bribes she’d tendered to Mathos Mallarawan, Wendello Qar Deeth, and Egon Emeros the Exquisite might have bought her a ship, or hired a score of sellswords.

The crown was the only offering she’d kept. The rest she sold, to gather the wealth she had wasted on the Pureborn.

“Did I not give you an army, sweetest of women? A thousand knights, each in shining armor.”

The armor had been made of silver and gold, the knights of jade and beryl and onyx and tourmaline, of amber and opal and amethyst, each as tall as her little finger. “A thousand lovely knights,” she said, “but not the sort my enemies need fear. And my bullocks cannot carry me across the water[”]

“The Milk Men shun him. Khaleesi, do you see the girl in the felt hat? There, behind the fat priest. She is a—”

“—cutpurse,” finished Dany. She was no pampered lady, blind to such things. She had seen cutpurses aplenty in the streets of the Free Cities, during the years she’d spent with her brother, running from the Usurper’s hired knives.

“No trick,” a woman said in the Common Tongue.

Dany had not noticed Quaithe in the crowd, yet there she stood, eyes wet and shiny behind the implacable red lacquer mask. “What mean you, my lady?”

“Half a year gone, that man could scarcely wake fire from dragonglass. He had some small skill with powders and wildfire, sufficient to entrance a crowd while his cutpurses did their work. He could walk across hot coals and make burning roses bloom in the air, but he could no more aspire to climb the fiery ladder than a common fisherman could hope to catch a kraken in his nets.”

[...] “And now?”

“And now his powers grow, Khaleesi. And you are the cause of it.”

“Me?” She laughed. “How could that be?”

The woman stepped closer and lay two fingers on Dany’s wrist. “You are the Mother of Dragons, are you not?”

ACOK Daenerys I

“I fear no ghosts. Dragons are more powerful than ghosts.” And figs are more important.

A Game of Thrones

AGOT Daenerys III

“You dare!” he screamed at her. “You give commands to me? To me?” He vaulted off the horse, stumbling as he landed. His face was flushed as he struggled back to his feet. He grabbed her, shook her. “Have you forgotten who you are? Look at you. Look at you!”

Dany did not need to look. She was barefoot, with oiled hair, wearing Dothraki riding leathers and a painted vest given her as a bride gift. She looked as though she belonged here.

AGOT Daenerys II

Other gifts she was given in plenty by other Dothraki: slippers and jewels and silver rings for her hair, medallion belts and painted vests and soft furs, sandsilks and jars of scent, needles and feathers and tiny bottles of purple glass, and a gown made from the skin of a thousand mice. "A handsome gift, Khaleesi," Magister Illyrio said of the last, after he had told her what it was. "Most lucky." The gifts mounted up around her in great piles, more gifts than she could possibly imagine, more gifts than she could want or use.

AGOT Daenerys I

“We will have it all back someday, sweet sister,” he would promise her. Sometimes his hands shook when he talked about it. “The jewels and the silks, Dragonstone and King’s Landing, the Iron Throne and the Seven Kingdoms, all they have taken from us, we will have it back.” Viserys lived for that day. All that Daenerys wanted back was the big house with the red door, the lemon tree outside her window, the childhood she had never known.

When he was gone, Dany went to her window and looked out wistfully on the waters of the bay. The square brick towers of Pentos were black silhouettes outlined against the setting sun. Dany could hear the singing of the red priests as they lit their night fires and the shouts of ragged children playing games beyond the walls of the estate. For a moment she wished she could be out there with them, barefoot and breathless and dressed in tatters, with no past and no future and no feast to attend at Khal Drogo's manse.

Kousuke and Shin ae in recent chapters: Not as bad as you think (K’s POV pt. 1)

I was asked for my thoughts on Kousuke and Shin ae’s current situation so here we go. I’ll try to keep this as logical and objective as possible, but everyone has their own opinions.

I’m going to restrain myself and focus on analyzing their interactions from ch. 72 and onwards. Also because this will get too long, I am going to split this post int parts and between their relationship from Kouske’s point of view and from Shin ae’s point of view.

Though Kousuke is not the most friendly character and has a knack for saying things in the most blunt/crass ways possible, I think it’s safe to say that he does care about Shin ae.

It is very clear that Kousuke is very concerned about things being proper and composed, especially in front of his father, which is why he in chapter 72 he is upset when Nol’s phone rings. After all, this is a serious family meeting with business partners so it is not the time for phone calls. However, when he finds out that it was Shin ae calling and she calls him as well, he doesn’t turn his phone off or wait to call her back after the important meeting is over. Instead, he excuses himself and calls her back then and there, even missing the main conversation of what the meeting was about. To me, this is a sign that he does care for Shin ae and is concerned about her.

Another thing that may seem kind of small, but I think is important is Kousuke completely giving his mother the cold shoulder even though she’s going on a long trip. From what we’ve seen, it seems like the family member Kousuke is the closest to is his mom. Also I touched on this before in a previous post, but commonly part of the trauma associated with parental infidelity is to become closer to and protective of the parent who was cheated on. We don’t know for sure if this applies to Kousuke, but we have seen him either ignore or try to defend his mother’s more unsavory behaviors before. Either way, the fact that Kousuke is being outwardly upset with and cold to his mother because she lied to and manipulated Shin ae which got her hurt, is a testament to how much he does care about Shin ae and her well-being.

Okay finally onto Kousuke and Shin ae’s face-to-face interactions in recent chapters. I don’t want this to get too long so I’ll just say that Kousuke has good intentions which I do think come from a place of genuine care for Shin ae, but sometimes his way of going about things are not great.

For example, he is concerned about Shin ae getting sleep because she is still recovering from the hospital which sounds sweet on paper but then what he actually says is:

Moving on, once they start talking about work, Kousuke tries to quell Shin ae’s worries by letting her know that she won’t be working for Sang chul, going as far to say he will try to minimize any possible interactions between them. He also lets her know his mother will be away for some time. He also doesn’t pry and accepts that she can’t work on weekends.

Next we have another unfortunate string of words coming out of Kousuke’s mouth. He notes that Shin ae does not have the attire expected of the office. This is not a jab at Shin ae or Kousuke being a dick, it’s just a fact. He wants to help Shin ae by getting her the clothes she needs because:

a. she may not think to buy clothes and end up in a tough situation the day her work starts when she realizes she needs more formal clothes.

b. she won’t know which clothes are appropriate for the office setting or which stores to go to.

c. she may not be able to afford those clothes.

So once again he has the good intention of helping Shin ae get an office wardrobe, but the words that come out of his mouth include calling her clothes and sense of style unremarkable and unrefined, which I think he just said because he’s giving his honest opinion but that’s still rude and him being sort of a pompous dick imo.

He then goes on to tell Shin ae to wait, while he goes and gets her clothes. In my opinion, he should have shopped with Shin ae to get her opinions on things because she’s the one who’s going to be wearing them. I think this has to do with two things. Firstly, he doesn’t think Shin ae really knows anything about office attire so it would be easier to just pick the clothes himself. Secondly and more importantly, I think it’s just part of Kousuke’s personality to do things himself. Probably because that’s what he’s used to since his family is wank and he has nor friends rip, but also because he’s been given responsibility since a very early age where he needs to pull his own weight and succeed. So I think the default for him when there’s a task is to just take care of it himself. Making this instance more about his own personality than him being like “you stay there incompetent woman while I go pick you clothes.”

Also I think it’d be easy to roll eyes at the clothes he ended up picking, but I don’t think this has to do with him just blatantly ignoring Shin ae’s comfort. In fact, I think his choice of clothes is his attempt to make Shin ae more comfortable (I know this sounds crazy but hear me out). Shin ae is a high school student who is going to be working amongst adults, so he thinks she is concerned about fitting in. Therefore he got her blouses and pencil skirts, not because he thinks that’s what the “ideal working woman” should wear, because I think Kousuke is way too practical for that kind of mindset, but rather it’s just what he’s used to seeing the women in the office, including his mother, wear.

And then he got her heels, once again not because ‘fuck your comfort woman’, but probably because that’s what the other women wear, and, more importantly, so she doesn’t feel small and short compared to the others. Because once again she’s a high school student so he reasonably thinks she’s nervous about looking so small compared to everyone else while already feeling less qualified and experienced than the adults. In fact I think he is so sure that it’s something she’s concerned about that when she looks unsure about the heels, he thinks she wants higher heels to look even taller lol he dumb. Keeping in mind she doesn’t really wear heels, he also does get a block heel to give her more stability (which she doesn’t think helped, but trust me gurl the block heel makes a big difference compared to stilettos).

This was actually one of the times where Kousuke says something nice and normal. Offering to drive her is actually pretty sweet because not only would that help get her to her destination faster, but it’s also taking extra time out of his schedule. But also he doesn’t insist when she declines and accepts what she wants to do. I honestly think ppl who think Kousuke doesn’t take into account Shin ae’s wishes and whatnot are not paying attention to a lot of their interactions.

Im curious as to why you hate Makoto for ripping of p3pfemc's looks but consent to Royal-chan for the same thing? ( I know you hate Makoto for a lot of other reasons, like her personality and such, but it seemed like you disliked her since prereveal/release?) If Royal chan ended up being a completely unrelated character to femc, will your opinion of her change ? (no hate really, i jst wanna know. \V/m )

It's no prob! In all honesty I didn't even think about this kind of question, but the answer came right away, so I guess time for a not so deep reflection.

So like full stop, if Poniko isn't connected to the FeMC and it's just Atlus messing with me, yeah I'mma be PISSED. Will I rip on her looks like no tomorrow? Maybe, depends on how it’s handled (like how bad they burn me, and even then I might wait for a spinoff cause they might go into the connection there rather than Royal). I think it's obvious I went harder on Makoto because I don't like her for other reasons, and so any small thing about her annoys me (tbh Yusuke's design annoys me too, but not as bad cause....I kinda just don’t care about him and who he’s copying as much, but I'll get to that in a bit)

Anyway I think we need some historical context, because I think it’s important. When Makoto (and Yusuke) where first shown......FeMC had been ignored for A LONG time. We had a non-canon play (which no one really talked about), and that was it. No game related stuff, not even featured in the game where people were getting ripped out of timelines. FeMC were BURNED. I’ll be honest, when Yusuke appeared......While the parallels between P2 were obvious (not just with him) he reminded me of Minato as well. It annoyed me we had to have the token blue hair character since the rule had been made since the P3 era (kinda enforced with some black haired characters from P1/2, combining P2 games together that is, if you want to include them), Atlus said they’d be trying new things..... but like....whateves. But my association with him as Minato increased....when Makoto came along.

Ngl I wasn’t pleased with the reveal of the last three girls (even didn’t like Haru, for ironically now what I love as an alt rewrite for her as, as I thought she’d be a mean and person full of herself due to calling herself ‘beauty thief’....Yeah all types of crazy here, I do love sweet Haru tho. And the reason for my opinion changing on the alt non-canon personality rewrite is just I.....see the appeal in it for the group dynamic now, while at the time I was afraid of disliking any of the characters or having them be disliked by the fandom.....which big laugh now haha :’D .....I want my happy P5 self back ;w;). Anyway back to the three girls, ngl one of the reasons I wasn’t happy was how they just dumped 3 more characters on us (too big a cast so can they handle it?, silly has to do more VA videos, I want the smaller cast back oh god don’t screw this up, and so on and so on). As for the characters, while Haru’s appearance in the trailer mislead me on her personality (for whatever reason)..... I just.....there was something about Futaba and Makoto I didn’t like. Futaba just rubs me all the wrong ways for reasons I can’t describe for back then (maybe the fact she looked like she’d be a troll and she kinda is), but Makoto it was clear...... She was ripping off FeMC’s look. The brown hair and red eyes.....the fact that Yusuke looked like Minato.....it felt like they were trying to draw them as expies of the P3MCs. And it pissed me off. I didn’t want an unrelated character look and remind me of the FeMC, I wanted FeMC herself! Why are you stealing her look????? And while some FeMC saw this and rolled with it as a joke (Hamu/Minty/Shin dressing up as Makoto/Yusuke/Goro to get into P5), other’s didn’t know who the FeMC was and thus.....didn’t see the blatant expy/rip off design. Seeing people be like “her character design is so original and cute and blah blah blah”.....it annoyed me....obviously (it didn’t help she grew in popularity doing absolutely nothing too, so initially it was all about her looks, and then I’ve been told a lot of her fans, at least male, has been mostly them saying the like her design and her hair and her eyes, and no everyone who likes Makoto is an FeMC fan so....yeah.....I mostly hear how it’s just about her design so I’m very focused on that in regards to her specifically BECAUSE of the fans). And yeah I know it was a bit petty/shallow reason, but I didn’t outright hate her atm, she was stepping on my toes badly but I was holding out till the game (where it finally cemented my hate for her, and now I legit hate her for petty, shallow, deep, and complex reasons). And lordy lord lord, it did not help Makoto’s name was Makoto, because that was a name some FeMC fans gave Hamuko (cause Makoto Yuki was the closest ‘canon’ name we’d get to P3MCs, and some people adopted it for both MCs cause it was gender neutral, so Niijima coming along and taking THAT away sucked ass, and I know different kanji, it still sucked tho). It just....felt like Atlus was spitting in FeMC fan’s face..... But anyway, I kept it in....for about....2ish years. Even when I was trying to stay positive.......and even when I was slowly starting to come out with negative opinions. I tried to keep it in.

Finally I decided to make it framed as a joke, because I started to see Makoto ripping off more characters than just FeMC (FeMC, Aika, and Naoto in the detective novel to be precise, but what got the ball rolling was realizing that it was Aika who Makoto ripped the hair and motor vehicle from with the FeMC’s color scheme). That’s where my brain started going other places than just being restricted to FeMC, and I started being more critical of Makoto’s design outside the FeMC (tho that still burned me). Because, imo, it’s not original, it annoyed me people would say she was original when she was really just a Frankenstein rip off of other characters (other loved characters, FeMC and Aika were pretty popular in their own right). It only continued to cement in my mind that....anything ‘original’ about Makoto was a farce, she just copies while the original gets left behind.

Tldr; FeMC had been snubbed for years, along comes two design expies that remind you of P3MCs (3 if you wanna include Goro/Ken but Goro looks different enough imo), Makoto is named Makoto (a name some used for FeMC), and Makoto is praised for her design for being original and blah blah blah when it’s not (for multiple reasons besides the FeMC, kinda more the fans reactions fault but I was already having design issues so it just bugged me more when they’d say these things). So yeah it felt like Makoto stole aspects of the FeMC, and it’s not like FeMC has a lot for herself, which really just stepped on my toes. Combined that with legit hating the character when I finally get to see her in action (and it’s because of her actions and writing that I hate-hate the character, but prior to that it was just her stepping on my toes while trying to keep an open mind into liking her), the stuff said before gets amplified more than before.

But months later, after the first post of me ripping on Makoto for taking FeMC and Aika’s design (tho my later posts were in drafts I just didn’t post them till later), something amazing happened on Aug 4th. FeMC finally came back to us. And holy shit obviously I was happy, but it doesn’t dismiss the fact I was aware of how much of design rip off/expy Makoto was, and it wasn’t just FeMC anymore. But gdi if the fact that the FeMC wasn’t being ignored anymore didn’t change the outlook for me as an FeMC fan. FeMC was back, she’s loved, care was put into her character in PQ2, just.....skdfalf;a so happy ;w; But also so hopeful, she was acknowledged again, she had been cut from the 20th anniversary event in official art, and that hurt us, but now she’s back back. And she was a main character in PQ2.....which leads to you questioning, what next?

Which brings us to Poniko, the one post hopeful outlook. Obviously she’s not starting in the same place as Makoto. Poniko has been revealed post-PQ2 FeMC....which means Atlus isn’t ignoring Hamuko (in fact a lot of the creators were stating they WANTED her back), we know the creators do love Hamuko. There’s also the fact.....Poniko looks less like an expy like Makoto (who imo looks like Soejima trying to emulate Kaneko’s art style, esp the eye shape, same with Yusuke too). Poniko? It goes beyond ripping off a design, she looks like she’s almost fully lifted from Hamuko, it just looks like Hamuko wearing a different outfit. Just straight up copy and paste. And would I have been pissed if she was revealed alongside Makoto? Maybe, or I might be theorizing that she is Hamuko herself like now (tho I think it’d get more push back due to Hamu being in Atlus’ basement for so long so it just being claimed as delusional and unlikely), or both (and then pissed when it’s revealed it’s not Hamuko). It’s just....she looks SO MUCH like Hamuko it can’t be a coincidence, and after PQ2 it feels less like one as well. Just.....the posture, the cinematic parallels, the hair color, the eye color, the eye shape, the eyelashes, the face structure, the way she stands.....Poniko just screams “I AM Hamuko” not “I just look like her because.” And it helps that other people in the fandom also see this too, some are hoping she’s a new person, but it seems people at least acknowledge that very obvious similarities between Hamuko and Poniko (while that didn’t really happen with P5 with Hamuko/Makoto).

And....tbh I feel like I might sound like I’m splitting hairs (at least with the words I’m using). And it might sound weird that I think Makoto ripped off enough Hamuko it pissed me off, but Poniko just.....is a copy and paste of Hamuko, just straight up Hamuko in a different outfit and hairstyle but it doesn’t. But it’s the historical context I think that sheds that light. And the fact Poniko might just BE Hamuko, and so it’d make sense if that was the case for them to look like each other (while it doesn’t make sense for Makoto to look like Poniko).

I guess it also helps that I personally had the headcanon Hamuko and Minato weren’t related (just strangers on the bridge in two separate cars), and they both survived the bridge accident but one became the leader of SEES and the other went on to live and do their own thing (until maybe a spinoff game pulls them back in). And while I.....well recalling it now I considered a reincarnation once in a hc scenario (opted for time travel forward cause that makes sense 8U I won’t go into it I had my reasons 8U), but looking at the 1st year symbol on Poniko (and reincarnation in other MegaTen works, I mean c’mon reincarnation is in the title) it feels plausible. And it works for Poniko because of the time the incident and the time to be reincarnated takes place (1999 being the accident and April 1 2000-April 2 2001 being the time frame she was born), which wouldn’t ever work for Makoto because she was born in 1998 (so even if I HAD considered Makoto it wouldn’t have worked, esp since they never tell us she jumped grades, it’s not possible....and while I’m all for hc and grey areas, this is something that WOULD be explicitly told because it’s not common in Japan and Atlus has been explicit about characters not in the ‘right’ grades before, just an fyi there 8U).

I dunno I feel like there’s distinct clear reasons that I can fit them into separate categories. And yeah if Poniko isn’t Hamuko I’mma be burned too, BUT I’mma wait till a spinoff post-Royal before I get pissy.....cause I don’t expect clear answers to other past games in another game’s mainline entry (I only expect shallow shoutouts tbh). So yeah, just so you know where the deadline for my expectations are.

I'm glad you're talking about the absurdity of Blood Vengeance because I remember watching that and thinking, "who this Shin is? Like I don't remember him from the games but also, Jin is kinda an asshole here oh god. Xiao's and Alisa's relationship is cute but aside from that this is a MESS". Seems that they didn't learn from the Live Action movie.

Sidenote I love the pic you shared of Xiao holding Jin's hands🖤 kinda looks like she's holding the paws of a cat/puppy, so soft. The power that that has 🤌

Nope, Shin was just an OC for the movie to serve as a contrived plot point. Which thank fuck, since I didn't care for his character at all. And yeah, Jin was quite an asshole in Blood Vengeance. Not only the whole "IF A MERE FATHER-SON QUARREL IS ENOUGH TO DESTROY THE WORLD, THEN SO BE IT" (lmao writers pls remember why Jin wanted to end the bloodline in the first place) but like. Not doing anything to help Shin was hilarious despite the fact that Jin alone, could've easily saved Shin's life - then there was also Alisa and Xiaoyu, who are BOTH excellent fighters as well. So like, there was no need for Shin to die - they could've easily fought off Heihachi and get him back. Given that Kazuya just... stood there, and acted indifferent by the death (not happy, not upset either) I don't think Kazuya would've cared if they tried to force Heihachi to let go of Shin. But no - they just stood there for an ENTIRE MINUTE for plot convenience (ugh) and then when the three start fighting, their punches were so POWERFUL, that it fuckigngng BLEW XIAOYU OUT OF THE BUILDING - she would've fallen to her death had Alisa not been there and Jin just doesn't even care. 💀 (Remember how in that Tekken Force comic, seeing Xiaoyu get thrown against a wall was enough for DJ to come out? Or how in the SFxTK trailer, seeing Xiao hurt by Juri was also enough for DJ to come out?)

Although, I can't entirely blame Blood Vengeance for Jin's cunty portrayal. This is more so TK6 damage. As that game was the one that unfortunately started the whole "Jin being a complete cold jerk to everyone" and it just kinda bled into other medias (Blood Vengeance, King of Fighters crossover mobile thingy I believe, Street Fighter x Tekken, and even Tag Tournament 2 to an extent) Really, TK6 did assassinate Jin's character and I'm really hoping TK8 will revive him. (He was better in TK7, but wasn't in it enough to really determine.)

Xiao and Alisa's relationship was very cute. I actually hated Alisa in TK6 just because she was so boring. Like lots of people talk about female characters who have no personality other than Female, and Alisa is perhaps one of the biggest examples of that in TK6. Her only personality was really just, "being pure and agreeing with everything MC says unless it's hurting Heihachi lMAO." 'cos she really did just feel like Waifu Bait. But I actually liked that she was a socially awkward weirdo in Blood Vengeance. It gave her actual character, made her feel more unique, and made sense with her being a robot trying to understand human emotion and behavior. But Xiao and Alisa's relationship was also a downside to the movie as well. Because it felt like it focused so much on it, to the point where it felt like a slice of life anime movie more than one that's supposed to be one based on a fighting game. And I just found myself feeling really bored of it. It's like they remember it's supposed to be an action movie and then just threw over the top ridiculous fighting scenes in it.

Especially the last fighting scene - which lots of people say it's good, but... it's really not. Not only just because imo, it's way too over the top even for Tekken standards. But like as I've stated above - we focused mostly on Xiao and Alisa throughout the entire thing. So when we're now spending 10+ minutes of the Mishimas, who were barely in the film - especially Kaz, and Heihachi, and we don't really know / understand their motives, and why we should even be rooting for them (WHO we're even supposed to be rooting for lmao) Like yeah, I know that mostly only fans will be watching this movie and they've played the games. But this movie is also noncanon, and set in an AU. Soooo... this Jin, Kazuya, and Heihachi are still different from the ones we see in the games.

Watching Blood Vengeance felt like I had to turn my brain off through it all. And that's definitely not a good thing. It may actually be the worst of all Tekken adaptations. As much as I critique and dislike Bloodline - I will say I'd probs rather rewatch Bloodline than Blood Vengeance. Although it was also poorly written, Bloodline had more things I liked in it - and while Jin's characterization is still wrong, imo, at least he's an actual good guy - even if the whole "don't hurt ppl ever :-)" message for a little pretentious at times. And I'd even rather rewatch the OVA and the 2010 movie over Blood Vengeance. I've yet to watch Kazuya's Revenge tho (sequel to the 2010 movie) and I probs never will at this point. But yeah, even though I think the Tekken story can be translated into a good show/movie if written well - for some reason, nobody is able to actually execute it and at this point, I don't think we'll ever get a good Tekken adaptation.

YOU'RE RIGHT OMG - it does!! I guess it makes sense, Jin is but a creechure JNDFGJNG. But yeahh!! It's one of my fav win poses from Tag 2. I wanna see Xiao being cute with Jin more often in the games! Especially given they are supposed to be best friends! (With Xiao obvs having a crush on Jin)

My Captain Phasma costume: 💥Progress & Fixes to Come💥 This costume has been such an undertaking, & I still have so far to go. But I’m really glad I took it on, & am looking forward to doing all the work I have left on it! This pic was taken at DragonCon by Robby Idol Photography ! So far: ✅ Let’s start with the fabric parts? I used a thick, heavy lycra, & made the gaskets from piped PVC. I put industrial velcro on certain places on the bodysuit to hold on & secure a few of the armor pieces from moving/sliding, but they were not weight bearing (the armor was much too heavy for velcro). The gloves are separate pieces. The cape is really heavy, has the appropriate pockets and straps on it, and goes on with hidden industrial velcro. I did rubberize the cape fabric, but I don't want to go into how because it wasn't something I would recommend anyone actually do, I made myself sick & will not be responsible for someone repeating my mistakes. ✅The armor. First off, it’s flexible fiberglass. It was part of an original kit, an experiment. I realize now why Stormtroopers always use vacu-formed plastic, it’s incredibly light & shapeable…this set of armor alone weighs 60 pounds!! It was made for an enormous male, someone over 6’ and over 200 pounds. I had to first start out with trying as many alterations as I could. I removed inches from the circumference of the upper arms, upper torso, & upper thighs. I had to spray Plastidip first inside of all of the armor, as the fiberglass was shedding a bit (as rough fiberglass will), & was itching/making me crazy. Sealing the inside made it easier to handle. Then I primed all of the armor using auto paint primer, since it’s made to adhere to fiberglass without reacting & seals it. A few coats + sanding & filling, priming. I then attached inside a harness system I made for myself, most of the armor weight hangs from my shoulders all the way down to my knees. I also glued pieces of EVA Foam inside of a lot of the armor since it was so big, kept it from rattling around me like a bell! Then I spray painted it with a chrome paint, & waxed it. ✅ The helmet I screwed up on a few times, of all pieces, & had to sand/repaint the thing 4 times. And it’s not done. Inside the helmet I added the plastic visor to hide my eyes, a fan for cooling/air, & a voice box so my voice carries outside the helmet, otherwise no one could hear me at all! ✅ The part I hated the most: all the little finger pieces. Between sanding and shaping, priming and painting, & gluing them to the gloves…I hate finger armor, now. Hate it. 😛 ❌ Stuff left to fix/redo (this is gonna be long & costly)😣 🔸 If I am able to do it, I need to take a LOT of the armor in even more. It’s just too big. Way too big. 🔸 I need to distribute the weight onto wide cushions for my shoulders instead of all on 2 thin straps, it wrecked my shoulders at the con! 🔸 NEW PAINT. I was initially happy with the chrome paint I used, but as with most store-purchased chrome paints, you really HAVE to seal them. So I did but the wax causes the chrome to die down to a silver. NOT what I wanted. I am eyeing up/experimenting with ordering new chromes, though some are really pricey and will just have to wait. I have time. 🔸 The belt: The boxes on the belt are far too heavy. There’s no need for them to also be fiberglass, I’ll be making foam ones. 🔸 I may remake some of the shin pieces from foam. The fiberglass was very heavy & weighed onto my ankles, which hurt. 🔸 The shoes. The shoes were a last minute emergency stand in, I hated them. Will be replaced. 🔸 I need to alter the thighs after resizing, they cut up too high IMO (& I'm really leggy, who is this made for???) & make smaller shoulders. 🔸 I’m sure there’s more. ✨Special thanks to the awesome dude who brought me my little piece of heel armor after it came off in the crowd, you’re a hero!! ✨I wasn’t able to wear her long for the first time, but I did find a really fantastic & fun group of Force Awakens cosplayers at the con, & we had a really nice time getting pics & talking. I was really happy I met them, honestly I wish I had gotten their names. But I am honestly glad I took this on and saw it through, & look forward to working on it between other costumes over the next few months to make it really what I want!
