Approximately 200 protesters gathered on a tree-lined residential street on Staten Island on Thursday night, many with high-powered flashlights on hand. They wielded those flashlights like strobes, beaming bright, jerky light over police barriers, into the windows of a former school where around 60 asylum seekers are living temporarily. Meanwhile, a man named Johnny Tabacco, a bitcoin-guy-turned-Newsmax-host, wearing an oversized blue pinstripe suit and slicked-back hair, stood on a truck bed and bellowed in a gravelly voice through a PA system that was turned up so loud that this reporter’s ears were still ringing hours later. Tabacco, who is one of the organizers, conceded in a short interview later on that the decibel level was by design. The organizers wanted to send a deafening message to their new neighbors: “You’re not welcome here.”

One argument that SOUNDS supportive of immigrants rights but ultimately backfires on itself is that immigrants do jobs “that Americans won’t do or don’t WANT to do”.
This argument is flawed because you can support immigrants rights without stereotyping the white working class as “lazy”. You can also support immigrants based on their mutual humanity and basic inalienable human rights and dignity and not because they can be used for cheap labor 🙄

So this is Trumps America?… A dozen masked men assaulting women. Whether they’re immigrants or not. Whether they’re “illegal” or not. These are f*ckin human beings! This is fascism! This is how it started in Germany right before WWII! WTF!?

I cannot put into words how much sadness and anger I feel for my U.S based followers and mutuals. It is disgusting beyond words that there are people in this world that prefer a sexual offender over a woman.
You belong to yourself and nobody else. Your sexuality belongs to yourself and nobody else. Your body belongs to yourself and nobody else. No matter what your government may say, never forget that YOU belong to YOURSELF.
I hope and pray that you all are able to find some sort of safe haven, whether it be getting out of that country or simply coming into Tumblr to express yourself. You are valid, you are seen, and you are heard. You are loved.

This black warehouse is a brand new ICE detention camp just erected just 20 minutes north of Austin, TX. I'm sharing the video so you can get a sense of its scale. Calling the detention camps "camps" and not "centers" because they are destabilizing, not centering. (Also: its rapid construction proves that the US could build shelters to house and feed to every houseless person in this nation in just a few weeks. And no, we don’t want the filthy paws of private prison owners in our shelters. Neither do we want them on our immigrant siblings or our incarcerated siblings. But I do notice the federal capacity this reveals.) NOTE: This video was removed from Fb and from the 20 shares from my page, within 10 hours. Please share widely! 2*O*20*O Algreg St., Pflugerville TX

IMMIGRANT RIGHTS RESOURCES (forwarding from a friend -- share widely)
Hope you are having a blessed day! With the help of a friend, I have compiled a list of resources that provide info in several different languages regarding immigrant rights.  I am sharing these links to resources with you and others because we never know who will come into our orbit that might need help or the orbit of others dear to us. This is by no means a complete list but it useful and helpful nonetheless.
Immigrant Rights Resources
Flyers regarding immigrant rights if ICE raids the home, workplace or arrest them in the street.

Red Cards (template to be printed and laminated) are small cards that immigrants can carry in their language which would have course of action if they get stoped but also in the back it explains to the ice agent in English that the person being stopped is instituting their rights under the la which applies to them.

I hate the way our world is built around money.
I genuinely hate how our entire society is built around money. We don't see people as human anymore, we see them as assets or burdens. We are all alive and I firmly believe that:
Immigrants are human;
Trans people are human;
People of color are human;
Queer people are human;
Intersex people are human;
People of any religion or no religion are human;
Every single human deserves the right to Healthcare, food, shelter, clothing, education and BASIC HUMAN RIGHTS. Politicians see people as burdens, money or insignificant pawns in their game. This needs to stop. We all deserve to not only exist and live, but truly thrive. While the rich get richer, the rest of the world gets left behind. We are all equal, so we need to start fucking acting like it.

UN Committee Criticizes Canada’s Immigration Detention Practices
Experts Urge End to Immigration Detention
Tumblr media
This week, the United Nations Committee on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities issued a bleak assessment of Canada’s immigration detention system, calling for Canada to protect the legal capacity rights of people with disabilities in detention and urging an end to immigration detention altogether.
The committee’s findings, released after a review of Canada’s disability rights record, echo concerns that Human Rights Watch and our partners have raised for years.
The committee warned that asylum seekers and migrants with disabilities are disproportionately detained, often in correctional facilities where they may be placed in solitary confinement if they experience a mental health crisis.
The committee’s message is clear: Canada should “end the use of immigration detention by increasing community-based, independent alternatives that provide access to holistic supports, such as housing, healthcare, mental health services, legal representation, disability-related supports, and children’s services.” The UN Working Group on Arbitrary Detention has also long called for the gradual abolition of immigration detention on human rights grounds.
The committee also condemned Canada’s use of substitute decision-making for people with disabilities in immigration detention. Under this practice, designated representatives—appointed without meaningful assessment or oversight—are empowered to make crucial decisions on behalf of detainees, often without detainees’ knowledge or consent. Human Rights Watch has documented how this system deprives people of their legal capacity, often with life-altering or even life-endangering consequences.
The committee urged Canada to replace this system with a supported decision-making model that upholds detainees’ will and preferences.
