Soaked in the neon glows

When not photographing roller coasters, I quite like art museums! One of my favorites is called FloridaRAMA — A collection of exhibits by local artists, about our local folklore, nature, cities, and community. It is an immersive experience where as you explore the museum you piece together the story of a couple who has gone missing.

This place is not a place of honor... no highly esteemed deed is commemorated here... nothing valued is here.

What is here was dangerous and repulsive to us. This message is a warning about danger.

This place is best shunned and left uninhabited.

These words comes from a 1993 report from Sandia National Laboratories aimed at Long-term nuclear waste warning messages that are non-linguistically in nature.

How do you convey these words without language?

The Sandia report explored designs for physical markers which conveyed the concepts of dangerous emanations, shapes that evoke bodily harm, and the concept of "shunned land" that appears destroyed or poisoned.

The two renders are screen grabs from an interactive art piece I'm working on. I plan on submitting it to the Springfield Art Association's Wicked exhibit. The other two images are the original sketches by Mike Brill.

I know I'll be able to make a controller work. I'm hoping to get a VR version done so people can be fully immersed in this space. We will see though.
