As in rewatch get it because it's like team names and this fandom is obsessed with four letter acronyms and-*gets shot*

So… I once fixed hyperfixation by rewatching a show and taking notes about it, so imma try the same with RWBY as it's currently taking over a lot of brainpower just existing in my consciousness. I reckon if the rewatch itself doesn't remind me of how much of a mess this show is, taking notes might. Also I really wanna examine the 'Bumblebee was set up from the beginning' allegations. I'm 99.99% it wasn't but I'll give it the benefit of the doubt. Just to make it clear for any bumblebee fan who may be reading this expecting me to be converted into loving the ship: Even if there are hints this early on, their development later would still be a goddamn mess. And just for the record: I will only be taking as 'hints' things that are undeniable. The show is very explicit with its hetshit, I won't take less than that for queerness. (Don't expect this to be an essay I'll just write down whatever I wanna say at any given moment and it will be awful to read, it's basically a diary for myself).

V1: Trailers: Honestly, they're bangers. Music's great. They set up characters. If I had to rank them I'd say R-Y-W-B but I only put Black below the others because I simply like the other fights better. I know why Adam is there with Blake but it kinda feels like he steals a bit of hte spotlight. (And the Dempsey Roll reference in Yellow cannot be beaten, sorry. Well except by Ruby's sheer fucking awesomeness but ykwim). Though tbh ADAM STANDING THERE AWKWARDLY INSTEAD OF JUST JUMPING IS INSANE. YOU CAN CLEAR THAT GAP MY GUY. Also the moon is, well, inconsistent across the trailers. Like you'd think maybe there was something going on with it breaking a bit more each trailer but, no, it jumps from barely broken to even more broken than in the show in Black, then stays the same in Yellow. Which. You know. It's the little inconsistencies that make RWBY, aren't they.

On the Bees: Someone pointed out to me that 'Red like Roses' implies Blake/Yang as the beauty and the beast. I… will grant it the benefit of the doubt in this case. I mean, Monty didn't even fucking know Ruby was standing by her mother's gravestone when he did this I seriously doubt he'd thought that much ahead. But RWBY is inspired by fairy tales, so the use of beast and beauty isn't likely to be coincidental either. This is the only instance where I will grant a 'benefit of the doubt'. I'm more inclined to believe it's actually a coincidence that neatly fit into it later. Blake/Yang have absolutely nothing of the beauty and the beast in their dynamic.

Ep 1: The dust speech at the start feels a bit odd in retrospect. Dust ends up being kind of underwhelming if we look at what it actually does for the plot, it doesn't feel more important than Aura and Semblances. I'd reckon all three could have been mentioned. Is… is that moon transition at the start meant to imply the moon's been breaking off over time? Honestly the creation myth of RWBY is one of the few things I do believe was at least mildly planned from the start so I find it mildly surprising. Maybe they planned for it to break more over time but forgot about it by volume 6 and just had the gods break it all in one go? The rest of the episode is ok. I won't be commenting on the voice acting too much—this was a bit of an indie production, after all. If any particular lines are too awful maybe I'll point them out. That being said, Glenda's semblance is awfully the fucking same as magic. Cinder is using literal magic so that's ok. It really never is quite explained how or even why dust interacts with semblances, is it?

On the Bees: Nothing this ep.

Ep 2: Should I mention the fact that the show never stops to breathe, especially this early on? I guess I'll do it because then when I can be positive about a scene it'll stick out. So… yeah, the whole introduction of Team RWBY is kind of all over the place in terms of pacing. Could ahve used an extra minute or two to make the conversation a bit, well, better paced. Also do Yang's friends ever show up again? I don't think so. And I know it's meant to be comedic but Weiss just swinging about a bottle of dust feels kind of… strange. She should know how stupid that is. That aside, there's a lot of expository dialogue that probably could have been shoved into the classroom scenes. The dust, weapons, etc. Leave room for the characters to actually speak instead of explaining things everyone present should know.

On the Bees: Nothing this ep.

Ep 3: Comedy is VERY hit or miss in general, so I'll just state I… don't really find most RWBY humor funny. I see the intent and I won't criticize it, it's just not for me. On another note: White Rose is my go-to ship in the early volumes. The writers clearly got scared of how much chemistry Ruby and Weiss had so they sort of… barely interact one on one again in the future. Did you know I like Diakko? Because I like Diakko. A lot. Check my AO3. Iykyk. Anyways I don't think the sleepover scene thing is too bad. Could have made Weiss interact with Blake a bit but eh whatever.

On the Bees: So, Yang makes a very pointed comment about being into boys! Very explicit and with no interpretation required! Let's see if we can see similar hints of her bisexuality at any point prior to V6. And on the off chance a bumblebee shipper is reading this: I don't really care how much these minor instances 'don't matter'. If they're such small things, why not have them go both ways? Like, say, the perfect chance that comes up right after with fucking Blake. Which isn't taken. "noo but she says she likes her bow' it's all literal pleasantries to try to get her to talk to Ruby and the second she isn't responsive Yang's like "Nah fuck her." There's more of a romantic interaction here between Ruby and Blake than between bumblebee ffs. Also Yang so far has only shown interest in boys, as evidenced by her trailer. 'nooo she was just pretending' she wasn't pretending here now was she. Anyways if it really was planned this early on what stopped the team from just showing a bit of her bisexuality. Because she also didn't have much of a 'gay awakening' thing moment. Which you'd think they'd give her. Or Blake for that matter.

Ep 4: Nora and Ren are introduced and it's clear Nora's in love with Ren from second 1. Even if it's unclear whether Ren reciprocates or not (And I'm gonna say unclear because dude's kind of very non-emotive in general). I think it's a fine enough introduction to the characters. Weiss is VERY gay towards Pyrrha you cannot convince me otherwise. (just for clarification's sake: I mean it in a shippy way, I know it's not intentionally queer, I'm a yurifag it's what I do). Oh hey look another character getting to be very explicitly heterosexual I'm sure queer folk will get the same treatment in this incredibly inclusive show! Idk if I like Pyrrha's introduction. I guess it's efficient but… well, like everything in this scene, really it coudl use some time to breathe. I could get nitpicky and complain about a lot of things with the 'team selection process' like, uh, the fact that some students have to have died or how there has to have been some terrible teams because of the random nature of it all. And I guess I just did. But I'll also say I'm gonna let it pass because, in the end, it's funny. Also Blake didn't speak a single word this episode. Or get like. Any focus. Like idk a shot of her reacting to other people's shenanigans at least. One of the 4 mcs guys.

On the Bees: Nothing this ep… Like with Blake.

Ep 5: AU where Pyrrha misses her shot because Ruby dodged that bird, and Pyrrha's weapon struck the bird instead of Jaune and Jaune fucking dies. (<- when I say these notes are for me I mean it this is the sort of shit I think about when watching episodes of anything) Like u get what I mean? Ruby and Weiss just have so much chemistry man. I don't get what Pyrrha saw in Jaune acting like a prick back there but idk straight people are weird. And… pretty much that's all I have to say about the episode. There wasn't much of a pacing issue here because it was like, 3 scenes altogether.

Ep 6: So, Yang's supposed to absorb damage to use her semblance. At least in the later volumes. Here she just… Uses it. The trailer version had been fighting and took a few hits so it made sense there but here? And don't tell me it had no effect because she used it to obliterate that bear Grimm. Anyways I think it changes a few times through the volumes I'll be on watch for that. Yang and Blake's meeting is… fucking nothing. More at the end. The, uh, 'fight' with Ruby and Weiss wasn't animated the best. That's all imma say about it. Ok so, Aura is a manifestation of the soul and it can coat yourself and your tools for protection and presumably also enhances attacks and provides healing. Simple enough. But… the thing about understanding light and dark or whatever? Shit never comes up again. Also I seem to remember this is retconned but we'll get there when/if we get there. I don't hate the concept of Aura. Hell, it's almost exactly how I handle at least 2 magic systems I'm currently working on (sans details). I just think it's poorly utilized, being almost always just used as a magical coating and little else. The whole 'manifestation of the soul' thing rings hollow. Also does anyone else ever do the shield-aura thing Ren did here? Leaving aside my problems with Aura in general, Pyrrha's whole thing about helping Jaune manifest Aura: W H A T. T H E. F U C K. Like, did anyone on the team pause to think of the implications of this? Probably not. Definitely not. Just think about it for a second. This implies that it's possible for people with aura to help people without it manifest it. Whether the speech is important or not is irrelevant, let's say it's just something to help someone focus. That's not the freaking point. WHY woudln't they do this to everyone? If Pyrrha could do it with Jaune, who is pretty much a normal ass dude, why not do this for every citizen? It literally takes like a minute. Sure it tires the person who does it but like, what's stopping that person from turning around and doing it to someone else? Let's say it requires training to do it: Why not train people for the explicit job of unlocking other people's auras? And yes, they very explicitly state everyone has an aura, whether it's unlocked or not. Listen to me. LISTEN TO ME. You live in a society where a negative emotion will attract the monsters trying to kill you. Do you know how much safer people would feel if they knew they'd survive at least one or two hits from a Grimm? The panic you could help avoid? Grimm have this thing where they retrofeed themselves, causing panic which attracts more of them which causes more panic etc. By unlocking everyone's Aura you could help avoid or at least severely delay that problem. I don't think this is ever done again. But even if it is, the point would only get stronger, because it's clearly not something only Pyrrha can do. Anwyays back to our regular content, fight scenes with Monty are pretty good most of the time. Ren never uses his bare fists to attack again I don't think.

On the Bees: Every other pairing formed in these episodes had like. A proper exchange when they met. To show what chemistry they had together. Whether it be Weiss ignoring then coming back to Ruby, Pyrrha making a wisecrack at Jaune or Nora's and Ren's whole thing. Yang and Blake? Blake doesn't say anything, she just smirks (I think it's meant to be a smirk anyways). Yang just boasts. I understand Blake's not a very talkative individual but this tells me nothing of what their dynamic's gonna be.

Ep 7: Weiss and Ruby having really fun interactions here and then Yang and Blake have a nothingburger of an interaction. Actually, make that 2 nothingburger interactions. Jaune and Pyrrha get to be comedic here. And that's basically the episode really.

On the Bees: I don't care if bumblebee shippers read a million layers of meaning into Blake not saying shit when they first interact this episde. Fine. But Yang doesn't even have a reaction to it! She doesn't act annoyed or intrigued she literally does fucking nothing about it. Then the pony thing is like… ok. What's their dynamic here? Weiss and Ruby have a really strong dynamic already in place. Jaune and Pyrrha are building one that's at least starting to make sense. Nora and Ren had one from their first seconds together. Seriously. You wanna argue they were planned from the beginning? Well they sure seem like people who ended on the same team and shrugged and said 'whatever' and kept moving without further interaction, unlike fucking EVERYONE else. It pisses me off because you can 100% play Yang's hotheadedness against Blake's more calculating nature, but they don't fucking do that. 'Planned from the beginning' my ass, mfs couldn't even figure out how to squeeze some characterization out of their interactions.

Ep 8: The start of this episode is another case of RWBY humor not really hitting home for me. Another case of Yang just using her semblance for a tantrum. Seriosuly White Rose gets a fucking moment every episode. Yang and Blake barely fucking interact. I'm going insane. The rest of the episode is basically one big action scene, and well, it's RWBY at its best, so no real complains here. Roman is kind of awfully underutilized, isn't he.

On the Bees: I'd love to go on a rant like last episode but honestly shit still applies. The only actual interaction Yang and Blake have here is when Yang is feeling proud of Ruby, and it speaks nothing about their dynamic.

Ep 9: Last episode Blake wasn't saying shit and now she's suddenly a huge part of the redecorating efforts. The problem isn't that I think she should be a loner or aloof, the problem is that it doesnt' feel too consistent. She starts being like "leave me alone I wanna read", she barely exchanges a word with Yang later, and now she joins in on the fun? idk, maybe she could've joined in a less overt way. Other than that it's a fine scene, though it goes too fast for my liking. The classroom scene is amazing because it teaches us basically nothing, other than the mention of the 4 kingdoms. Like it says a lot of shit about 'true huntsmen' which ends up proving mostly untrue through the rest of the show. Which would be fine if it was like, a point made, but it's not really.

On the Bees: N o t h i n g.

Ep 10: More White Rose people really trying to tell me not to ship them because the bees are canon but fuck you THEIR DYNAMIC IS THE BEST PART OF EARLY RWBY. Always with the caveat of 'pacing could be better' ofc. Anyways what the fuck was up with professor moustache flirting with Yang what were they thinking. I think the Weiss/Ruby conflict could have been stretched a bit. Rather than a day, make it a week or something. Still, this is one of the better episodes of the season, iirc.

On the Bees: Nada. Zero. Nanai. But we keep getting fuel for White Rose DO YOU UNDERSTAND MY FRUSTRATION HERE. LIKE SERIOUSLY I WOUDLN'T EVEN MIND THE ABSOLUTE LACK OF ANY EXPLICIT QUEERNESS IN THESE EARLY VOLUMES IF THEY AT LEAST BOTHERED TO MAKE THE SUPPOSED 'PLANNED FROM THE BEGINNING' COUPLE INTERACT PROPERLY. NOBODY WOULD BE CASTING DOBUT TO THE CLAIM IF WHITEROSE HAD ENDED UP BEING CANON.

Ep 11: Ok, here's the thing. Aura is a manifestation of the soul. I can accept it can be measured somehow. The question here is, what exactly happens when it breaks? Like, what happens to your fucking soul? Really, I would just make it vital energy the same way ki or chakra works, because tying it to the soul like that just leads to questions. Anyways this episode is just the setup for the "jaune gets bullied arc". I'll actually not say too much about it because my own thoughts towards bullies are rather… extreme (as in, I would kill them all without hesitation were I given the chance sort of extreme). So instead of commenting on how absolutely terribly I think this arc is handled, I'll… not do that. That being said, none of team JNPR or RWBY standing up for Bunnygirl is kind of bullshit. Also, we know there's cameras everywhere on beacon, so why don't the teachers do shit? Though to be fair, teachers not doing shit about bullying is the most realistic part of this whole thing.

On the Bees: Still nothing.

Ep 12: Ok so the discussion of "making up new races to be racist towards" has been ongoing for as long as the internet has existed, probably earlier than that too. I am white, and I'm not from the US. In my country I'd say we have far more xenophobia than we do racism, and we didn't have a civil war over the the concept of freeing slaves. We just sort of did it. All of this to say: I'm not really in a position to give too pointed an opinion on the whole 'racist towards faunus' thing. With that and my refusal to speak on hte bullying topic, that kind of leaves me with little to say in general about the rest of the volume, huh. That being said, while I don't mind the Jaune/Pyrrha thing, and I do like the idea of Jaune somehow faking his way into beacon… how? How exactly does he do that? Like, think about all the security shit we've seen over the years. How does anyone create fake transcripts? Woudln't Ozpin or Glynda call the schools of their students to make sure their records are correct? idk. Maybe Ozpin just found the idea funny.

On the Bees: Knees.

Ep 13: I like the conversation between Jaune and Ruby, though it feels a bit… random for Ruby to be saying this? I guess the idea is she matured a bit after the conversation with Ozpin but it doesn't really feel like she's at the point where she should be saying stuff like this yet. I think she and Jaune should've played off each other, instead of Ruby acting like she's experienced about this.

On the Knees: Bees. Or, actually, I think it was wasps in that box.

Ep 14: Pyrrha's semblance is later treated as though it were secret (iirc) but she certainly doesn't seem to care too much about it right now. Wouldn't it be a matter of public reacord, anyways? Like, if you go to a fighting school, I'd reckon they want to know what their fighters' semblances are. Wouldn't want to have Gorey McBloodhands walk into the next sparring session and make someone explode from the inside, know what I mean? I suppose the existence of Salem could work to explain the masking of this but… They put up public tournaments where the best fighters are literally shown to the whole world anyways, and most semblances aren't as subtle as Pyrrha's so, you know. Anyways, that moment when Jaune's aura glows… Is… that supposed to be his semblance? I think it was more just that thing Pyrrha said about Jaune having a lot of aura, but if Jaune can use his semblance on himself, well… Fuck, the implications. Jaune could be the most broken character of this cast. Should be, even. Only semblances like Tyrian's should be able to counter him.

On the Bumbles: What happened to the box of wasps anyways.

Ep 15: Ok, so the only thing I will say about the racism arc: It makes sense Weiss would be racist, I just think it comes out of nowhere, when they had at least 2 other chances to show it in the past to build up to all of this. First thing Sun does when he shows up: Flirt! With Blake! More at the bottom Anwyays previous to final episode of the volume and… we introduce 2 random ass characters out of nowhere. And no, this wasn't planned from the beginning, this was done in haste because Monty thought it'd be cool to have them in a fight scene, and it shows. Monty was a genius animator but the guy could have done a little consulting with his team, really. THAT BEING SAID. I kinda think like they did the best they could. For all my complaints, using Sun as the trigger for Wiess's rampant racism (even though it could've been built up to) is effective enough. And… Ok Penny is a bit superfluous and she… doesn't really add anything to the scene other than being a literal obstacle, but, uh, could be worse really. I didn't much care for penny back in the day, but I do love Penny after V7-8, much as her revival bothers me (I remember when they claimed that no, Penny couldn't be brought back to life despite being a machine. You really want me to believe their claims about other stuff when they pull shit like that? You know the whole racism argument could have been a moment for Yang and Ruby to actually partake in the conversation. Especially yang since, you know, they were totally planned as a couple from the beginning.

On the Bees: Nothing! But Sun had a moment with Blake! Two, actually! And Sun's gonna be the one getting the infodump first. Like, dude's really gonna connect more and more deeply with Blake over a cup of fucking coffee than Yang has in literal months- "But no guys you don't understand there was never anything going on there clearly it was nothing it had no narrative impact it was meaningless fr fr" I'll say more about this over the volumes because holy fuck the level of cope is amazing here. I know I'm gonna sound like a goddamn hetfag complaining about this but you seriously need to understand I'm a yuri connoisseur I fucking hate heterosexuality (in media. real heterosexuals are ok sometimes) (this is a joke but only if the previous comment offended you if not it's real)

Ep 16: Well I already said my piece about Blake telling her backstory to Sun rather than her teammates. Way to go Yang, sticking up for Blake in the face of Weiss's continued racism. How effective is it to hold someone at gun/knifepoint, given the existence of Aura? If Blake tried to slit Roman's throat, even with a shot, its unlikely she'd be able to pierce through the aura, right? Cool fights are cool. Ok, racism arc aside, I do think it's kind of a problem that Weiss just… solves her racism because she 'thought about it'. Like, bitch wasn't even confronted about it, you get me? I like the idea of the 'reunion', the problem is… it doesn't feel earned. Pacing issues, like usual, but especially awful here.

On the Bees: N O T H I N G BLAKE WAS MISSING FOR HALF A DAY AND WEISS HAD MORE OF A REUNION WITH HER AND RUBY HAD MORE OF A REACTION.

Anyways, V1 finished. Veredict? It's a mess. It's RWBY. Despite all the criticisms I've thrown its way, I believe I enjoyed it more this second time than the first, to be quite honest.

And no, this volume did absolutely nothing to convince me that Bumblebee was planned from the start. In fact it kind of pushed me in the opposite direction. Like, the VA's really shipped this from the start? Fucking why? They barely interact, when they do it's fucking dry, and Blake has deeper moments of connection with the other two members of RWBY than with Yang. I am genuinely astounded anyone would believe the claims the bee's were always meant as endgame. Fucking hell.

On a completely separate note: Pyrrha doesn't pass the Bechdel Test for volume 1. Yes I kept track of this.

3 ships / First ever ship: imma do both so i can talk about more

first: white rose, or ruby/weiss for non rwby people. i just love the dynamic, the way they compliment each other, the aesthetic, everything really. also nostalgia because they‘re basically how i learned yuri fanfiction was a thing. no, that‘s in reverse actually, i googled yuri fanfiction and a fanfiction.net list that featured them prominently showed up and the rest is history. also the reason i joined tumblr. also have i told you about my cats weiss and—

sylvaina, or sylvanas/jaina. everyone knows warcraft and sylvanas right? the epitome of broken woman refusing to give up, which is paralleled in jaina on opposite sides of a brutal conflict. it‘s just two deeply hurt women coming together despite or maybe because of themselves, and finding healing where they thought it was beyond them. for some reason that appeals to me, don‘t read into it. also: go read sylvaina fanfiction. genuinely think there’s some of the best fanfiction period here. also also the reason i have a elven necromancer tattooed on my arm, and a cat named sylvanas, maybe—

doctor/kal’tsit. the one arknights ship i‘m genuinely obsessed with and there’s so little for it there, very cruel. there’s just so much here thematically, though. two ancient people trying their best to unfuck a world on a collision course with oblivion, and clashing over it. honestly both are too complex as character’s to break it down easily here, but arknights understanders should get it even if their obsession lies elsewhere. the next time i get a new cat (which hopefully will not be for a while) it‘s gonna be a kelshey

pricefield, max/chloe from life is strange. this one feels the most like a surprise considering my blogging habits, i think. something about telling the universe or fate or whatever to fuck all the way off just stuck with me though. also stole chloe‘s sleeve, and i‘m a bit pissed they blacked it out in the comics for some reason

Last song: alesana - the murderer, very nostalgic. sometimes you just wanna murder a room full of people and yell about it, you know? one of my favorite breakdowns, too. something about shouting are you ready to die? repeatedly is just very nice for letting loose. it‘s also part of a concept album, that in turn is part of a trilogy but let‘s not get into it

Last movie: pacific rim just a few days ago. don‘t really like movies too much but come on, giant robots versus kaijus

Currently reading: a few things. the murderbot diaries by martha wells, for one. taking a robot and letting it be inhuman and still a person and be treated as such is something we need more of. then a bunch of nonfiction, manufacturing consent first for obvious reasons and a bunch of marxist basics that i really should have read years ago

Currently watching: gundam origin. decided to work my way through chronologically, no clue if that‘s s good idea or not, but it sure makes a very big task more approachable. bunch of airing animes, too, as is tradition. cried myself through the first to episodes of frieren

Currently consuming: just had strawberry cheesecake ice cream, love that stuff

You know what? No actually fuck I'm defending myself I ain't no little bitch.

I am going to defend myself on one point specifically that just burns me the most.

"i shutter at the idea of what you consider good writing for women".

You should shutter because imma die on the hill that team rwby gets hoed.

Well written female characters (to me at least) are characters that can actually have a arc, a personality, and have moments that highlight who they are.

I want woman who can kick ass and have good development. I ain't want no house wives, no bullshit Mary sues, no Sakuras, I want characters who can have flaws, be wrong, and come out better along side them having the ability of being right.

Team Rwby gets over shadowed because while yes they have potential there's barely anything done with em, Ruby's self sacrificing Should have been more developed, perhaps she needs her team to draw her in from making unnecessary sacrifices that would only harm them, perhaps she should try and over achieve to reach what she thinks her mother could achieve.

Weiss' growth should have been developed, show the fact she's misunderstood faunus more, perhaps Blake doesn't exactly get along with her due to you know the racism. Show SOMETHING that explicitly stated that Weiss is in the wrong and show her growing from that!

Blake should have been shown having moments of flashbacks from the abuse, show the fact she does care for her people, perhaps she could be shown doing more stealth operations or convincing white fang members to quit before they get hurt or in serious trouble instead of basically not having anything shown about, allow her story to be given spotlight instead of a hasty bullshit ending where all of the white fang members just quit being members.

As for yang? Yang I can't say much because she somehow got treated well In the early volumes but in the later volumes she just becomes a nothing character who's only character trait is she gets angry! Perhaps she could have continued to be shown as extremely caring for others- including RUBY- instead of just a rage case.

Ok. I've said my peace. I'm tired and at this point I am just ready to turn off Tumblr and relax for the day in my fuckin man cave writing my books and my damn Rwby rewrite.

... Ok let me explain something that hopefully makes sense.

The woman of Rwby have very little characterization to the point they get overshadowed by the male characters (example: jaune). Crwby/Rt cannot write women, but they also just can't write. Team Rwby in the series has made baffling decision after baffling decision, such as.

Lying to ironwood despite him being trustworthy as seen multiple times before.

Acting as if ozma is suddenly the worst person in existence because he hid the fact Salem probably can't be killed. While yes that is very questionable that doesn't change the fact he did care for beacon and every other academy. He specifically made sure the students could actually be students instead of foot soldiers.

The entire thing with Salem being revealed to the people and the fact she's immortal.

Yet despite these actions they are treated as heros. Which normally makes sense but in context.. makes them really shitty.

Rt can't write. That's just a fact. Im sorry some people don't wanna believe that but the fact is Rwby has failed as a series because rt can't write, and especially cant write women.

Ironwood at the start is a man with his heart in the right place but is hasty with his decisions. The actions he later makes that people would dub as out of character. Is when he when he finds out he's been lied too.

As for Jaune... Look I've made multiple discussions on why I like jaune as a character. But to sum it up. He's a inoffensive character. Most offensive thing about him was his crush on Weiss and him lying about transcripts. Thats about it.

Now I'm done trying to defend myself. If you got a complaint tell me! Whether in chat or by using anything else besides anonymous asks.

RWBY ReWatch Notes, part 2: how the hell did this get so long this was supposed to be quick and simple--

Starting a new post for Volume 2 because I apparently had a lot more to say about Volume 1 than I thought and I didn’t like how long the post was getting.

Mercury is so obnoxious in his introduction, lol.

Oh my god, the food fight!!

I kind of miss RWBY having these low stakes, sort of slice of life episodes.

Also, Glynda storming in and righting the cafeteria in a single move is kinda scary strong. And kinda hot.

It’s kinda funny that they put Junior and the Malachite twins in the opening for Volume 2 but I don’t think they ever show up? Guess they just needed to pad the villain shots.

No, wait, they do show up, but they don’t really do anything. Their appearance is more cameo than anything else, lol.

Ah, yes. Ironwood. Glynda’s distaste for him is all too understandable now, lmao.

“Do you honestly believe your children can win a war?”

Hm. The conversation between Ozpin and Blake is a lot more interesting having seen the whole show. There’s the obvious angle that Ozpin was giving Blake the opportunity to tell him about the White Fang so that he could handle it. But I’m sure he also believed the White Fang were the “Queen’s” (Salem’s) pawns, and was hoping Blake was a thread he could follow into figuring out their next move.

Also, I know I said this in my liveblog but “They don’t know the White Fang like I do!” after you refused the one opportunity you had to teach someone in charge about the White Fang. Like, you can’t blame them for not knowing when the guy in charge is like “Hey, is there anything else you think I should know about?”

I will say, Blake’s VA is doing a fantastic job this episode though.

“I love it when you’re feisty!” Yang says to Blake. ( ͡° ͜ʖ ͡°)

I love the very villainous drawl Cinder speaks in. This girl can’t say a single thing without sounding like she’s up to something.

And by love, I mean hate.

I know shipping is (or was?) a big thing in the RWBY fandom. I don’t ship anywhere near as much as I did when I was a tween, so there’s usually only about one or two ships that interest me in any given show. Arkos was that one for me in RWBY, and anything else fell into the “Yeah, that’s cute, I guess” category. But if I had to pick another ship, Ruby and Penny (Nuts and Dolts, i think?) would probably be the next one. They’re so sweet together.

Oh my god, I forgot about the fight scene in Painting the Town. Definitely one of my favorites. The road chase, the team attacks, the part when Die kicks in just as Yang gets up and starts kicking ass.

I don’t think Weiss uses that speed glyph nearly enough.

Clownie rolling out of the carnage of the robot is still the funniest thing to me.

Love that Jaune was having this private conversation with Ren with Nora in the room and the door wide open, lmao.

God, I love Yang. I don’t think I say that enough, but I love her so much. The scene with her and Blake is so beautiful. She’s gentle with Blake, relating to her on a personal level, but also firm when she needs to be to drive her point home.

Also, from Yang’s story. I imagine it’s more likely that Qrow just followed Yang and Ruby that whole time, rather than just happening to show up. So I assume he waited until they were in actual danger to show up because he felt like Yang needed to search on her own, regardless of what she’d find.

We were robbed of seeing Yang and Blake’s dance.

I kind of miss adult Ozpin, cryptic riddles and all.

I like how Ruby doesn’t question Jaune at all, just holds his punch like he said. and then sips it.

oh no, Pyrrha’s talk with Jaune is actually making me tear up

“You treated me just like anyone else.” Remembering how Pyrrha followed Jaune into the cave that was clearly marked to have a dangerous Grimm inside. It’s funny in the moment, but if Pyrrha had been with anyone else, that person probably would have expected Pyrrha to take the lead and find the relics. But because she was with Jaune, she was able to kind of sit back and just support him. Because he didn’t have any expectations of Pyrrha and her skill. (and also a bit of him feeling the need to prove his own skill)

Ironwood can’t help but feel like Ozpin is keeping him in the dark. A shame that he was right.

“You’re a good person, James. You’ve always done what you think is best for the people, even against strong protest. It’s admirable.” Oof. Love how this is worded, though. “What you think is best for the people.” There’s kind of no other way to move forward. There’s no way to know what’s best in the moment. The issue with Ironwood is the “against strong protest” part. Everyone else disagrees, but he’s gonna do what he wants regardless. That’s not how a leader should act.

These conversations are so fascinating now, knowing the full context of them.

Ohh, yes, the train fight. My favorite.

There has never been a moment in this show, before or after, as mind melting as Oobleck-- with no hesitation-- turning Zwei into a missle for just a moment.

I remember not liking Neo in the beginning, and I have no idea what changed, but I love her now.

I think it was how in control she seemed in every fight, and that irked me a lot. I’m usually not fond of characters like that, I like to see my characters struggle.

Like, compare Neo’s fight on the train, where she isn’t touched once, to Clownie’s fight, where he immediately gets rekted.

Damn, Weiss was kicking the White Fang guy’s ass, but it only took one hit from him to down her. Glass cannon, indeed.

Huh. I’ve never noticed before, but Neo’s eyes go completely grey when Raven shows up. She immediately leaves too, I guess realizing she was outmatched. Did she recognize who Raven is, or was she just able to read that Raven was way stronger than her?

Every part of the fight in the city is awesome, but when Team CVFY show up? *chefs kiss*

Coco is my queeeenn. She uses a heavy weapon like Yang and Nora, but it’s her goddamn purse.

Sooo... what did Cinder gain out of the train explosion? Just having Clownie arrested?

Also, the whole thing between Ozpin and Ironwood is fascinating, now having later context. Ozpin loses control of the Vytal festival and potentially his job as headmaster, all because of Ironwood’s “reports”. At the same time, Ironwood asks Ozpin to trust him, but we know that’s difficult for Ozpin to do because of his hundreds of years of working with people, and the many betrayals he’s likely had to endure. And this is yet another betrayal, cinching Ozpin’s ever shrinking ability to trust. But his inability to trust those around him fully is why others may turn on him, because there’s no transparency in his motives. And so, the cycle of mistrust and betrayal continues, the ouroboros eating it’s own tail.

Anyway, on to Volume 3!

Ozpin: It would probably be for the best if I did. Oscar, what Qrow is saying, is that there is a time and a place to ask about things.

Ozpin: The previous discussion we just had with, Mr. Arc for starters?

Oscar: Okay… What was that discussion about anyway, I didn’t understand any of it?

Ozpin: Okay… Jaune feels like they’ve betrayed his trust and respect by claiming to be his friend by their words, while Jaune had clearly pointed iut they were anything but his friend.

Oscar: Okay… and why’s that?

Ozpin: Because, Mr. Arc finds their words to be hollow and worthless because their actions never proved that they were indeed friends to begin with.

Oscar: Oh… that makes sense… I guess…

Yang: Oi, Oscar!

Oscar: Huw?! Oh, yes Yang?

Yang: Would you kindly not remind us of our failings as friends?!

Oscar: But, you aren’t friends, you just had a talk about how you weren’t?

Okay. Imma level with you. I don’t like rwby. I jumped ship after volume 8 tore something in me. But even I think that but you described from IceQueendom sounds stupid, like blatantly out of character. Does.. does Japan just have a thing about being an “adult”?

Okay, now that I'm on a laptop, I'd like to walk everyone through the whole thing. Because the issue here is a lot bigger and more complicated than what I mentioned.

So...spoilers.

Okay, to really understand the gravity of the issues here, I'm gonna need to widen the scope a bit...or a lot depending on your view.

So, back during the second attempt to save Weiss, Ruby and co. made it to the Nightmare Grimm in the dream and try fighting it. Nightmare-Weiss interrupts them and causes Ruby to cut herself on the thorns of the Nightmare, which Shion said they shouldn't. Why? Shown later.

So after getting rejected and leaving, everyone goes off to recoup and encounter Penny, Sun and JNPR individually. Through their talks, they come up with a plan. That being that they save the train from being robbed, use that to change the dream and get deeper within. From there they open up one of the cages housing Dream-JNPR, showing it to be a fun little carnival inside while keeping the door open. Jaune (who went in), snags a Relic that was inside, leading to a bunch of Kid-Weiss' running out.

They proceed to rush out of the cage, talking about a bunch of kiddy desires and touching the dream constructs, making them spout the same kiddy desires. Including a living statue of Jacques. ... This is important. All's well and good...until the Kid-Weiss' turn Kaiiju sized and everyone turns into...'freedom' zombies? I dunno. Nightmare-Weiss retaliates by doing some Mary-sueing combat and teleports them all back in while animating what looks like a giant statue of Jacques Schnee to fight them. Oh and the Jacques Statue got turned into the Arma Gigas.

Shit gets fucked, Ruby loses the Relic, we get shots of the places that once had the Relics being taken over by the Nightmare, Jaune and co. escape to the train which the Nightmare can't attack because Jaune's Big Dick Energy keeps it at bay and Ruby stumbles aboard. Ruby wonders why 'Weiss' didn't want the Kid-Weiss' running about. Jaune barfs up that speech about controlling your emotions and Ruby, having been infected by the Nightmare, succumbs.

Okay so-unpacking time.

For some stupid reason, they focus on Ruby being hurt by the Nightmare after indicating that it's bad. Then...never bring up why no one mentioned her clear injury.

But the big issue here is the Jaune speech. The Kid-Weiss' are portrayed as being rather disruptive and destructive...but the latter is only dangerous due to the Nightmare's influence and the former fails because they are disrupting what is clearing a metaphor for the destructive influence that her family has on her and how it has damaged her. While Jaune talks about controlling your emotions- Weiss clearly does that TOO MUCH. She's so restrictive that she's bound to snap and break without relaxing.

And wanna know what doesn't help this point at all? The Kid-Weiss' demands not being all that bad. There are some obviously selfish ones like 'I wanna eat candy all the time' or 'I wanna play all the time'. But considering Weiss' backstory and her family...these aren't all that bad. Some even take on darker tones like 'I wanna play with my friends' or 'I wanna go outside when I want' or the mantra of 'I wanna be free!'

Remember Mirror Mirror? That song Dream-Pyrrha sung? Yeah, it's sequel song 'Mirror Mirror Part II' is all about how Weiss yearns for freedom and independence. Which makes those supposedly childish desires kind of...you know...deserved?

Oh and we haven't the worst yet. Because we have three other lines- "I wanna have fun talking to my family', 'I wanna have fun talking to Mommy and Daddy' and 'I want them to spoil me'. So, who says these? One of the Kid-Weiss'? One of the machines?

No, the Jacques Statue. Whose last words before transforming into the Arma Gigas in a fucked up parody of Weiss' summon is 'Da...ddy...Mo..mmy...'. And the thing the Nightmare is guarding? Weiss' Volume 4 dress. The writers knew what they were working with and at no point during Jaune's speech did anyone go, "Uh...this is kind of self-defeating. Can we do another draft?"

But as if the Weiss side wasn't bad enough, they decided to fuck up the Jaune and Ruby side. Jaune is a boy inspired by the stories of his heroic family and desires to live up to their legacy. And Ruby is a girl inspired to be a hero by the fairy tales she grew up with, motivated by pure altruism and tries to stay true to who she is. These characters DO NOT WORK with this idea of locking away your childhood desires and emotions. Their arcs and motivations ARE their childhood dreams and desires.

And to truly kill any chance that this could work- Ruby is angsting over her inability to be a good leader. Something she already went through in Badge and the Burden. Which she then used to help Jaune with his own issues with leadership. So surely, Jaune. Ruby's first friend. Her foil. He could return that favor, right?

Nope, none of that works in IQ. They fucked Badge and the Burden by making Weiss into a shallow bitch and completely removed Jaunedice and thus that moment of bonding and support between them...AS WELL AS THEIR FIRST MEETING.

They put two close friends from the original discussing the issues they had from the original...and fucked it up so much that the only way to make sense of this is to substitute the original for IQ's setup...in this story aimed at new fans.

So far, as of Episode 8- the good to come from this is an example of professional writers fucking up RWBY, reminding me how lovely Ruby looks and Nightmare-Weiss' attire, showcasing her hips and legs.

Everything else? Getting shanked by Volume 1.

The request limit is now set for 5 only as I was overwhelmed by those requests and think it’s is a reasonable amount until I feel ready to do more.

You will also have to have a limit on the fandoms you request as I’ve had tons of requests for a fandom and I get burned out so as to make sure I don’t have to any fandoms there will be a limit on how many you request for one fandom, you can request for others too just not a whole bunch or else I might get burned out, the limit will be 5-8 as I believe that’s reasonable for all the fandoms in my masterlist

Also before requesting make sure to see if the fandom that you want to request isn’t closed that would help a lot thank you.

I will write character!reader that is referenced of a character from a show, though if I don’t know the character/fandom or don’t know how to interpret them well enough then I will sadly have to delete the ask which I’m sorry if I have to do that.

I will write male x female, male, and gn!reader but I might mostly do female!reader more as it’s the one I’m used to the most but hopefully I can make other genders as well sooner or later.

I will write angst depending on the prompt you give me of your request, there are some things that I won’t or can’t write so please be mindful and understanding if I’m not able to write it for you, thank you.

I will need a prompt for your request as that’s easier on me with one so please remember to give me a prompt to work with or else I have to delete it. Please be detailed on prompt as that helps me a lot in making it

I will do yandere but it all depends on the prompt you request of me to make.

How about an AU where Nora calling Jaune fearless leader becomes so common that Jaune actually becomes convinced he's fearless. Example: Jaune sees a dragon and goes "Imma get me a dragon skull"

NO FEAR!

"Jaune? Jaune, are you okay?"

Pyrrha waved a hand in front of her friend. He sat in the infirmary bed, face contorted in great fear. No one was certain what happened to get him like this, but the effect remained. Jaune was paralyzed with fear.

"Is there anything we can do?" Ren asked the nurse, who sighed with a shrug.

"I'm afraid not. What ever scared him to this point must have been terrifying." He looked to the boy. "We'll do everything we can, but we don't know what will help him."

"Ooh! Ooh!" Nora hooted. "What if we used hypnosis?"

"I... won't say it won't work, but I can't it will for certain." The nurse's pager beeped. "Uh, if you'll excuse me."

Left alone, team JNPR looked to their leader. Ren looked outside the window, deep in thought. Pyrrha sat in the chair nearby, never taking her eyes off of Jaune. Nora rolled up her sleeves, short as they were, and rubbed her hands together.

"Okay." She breathed. "Jaune, if you can hear me, this is Nora. I want you to listen to the sound of my voice and watch the hands of the clock behind me." She stepped aside. After the second hand completed it's minute round, she spoke again. "Jaune, this is Nora again. On the count of three, when I snap my fingers, you will become our fearless leader. Ready? 1... 2... 3!" Nora snapped on three.

Jaune didn't budge. She sighed. She was hoping to get it on the first try. Oh well, might as well try again.

"Jaune, this is Nora. Watch the clock again." Another minute passed. "Jaune, this is Nora ...again. On the count of three, when I clap my hands, you will become our fearless leader. Ready? 1... 2... 3!" Nora clapped her hands once on three.

Jaune didn't respond. Nora continued this routine for almost an hour. She was getting tired, and so was the team. One more, and then a bathroom break.

But what could she do? She tried snapping her fingers, clapping her hands, clicking her tongue, and even slapping her butt! Nothing!

She looked to Pyrrha, who fell asleep in the chair. She was so worried about her partner. She then turned to Ren, who continued to stoically stare out the window. He was taking this especially hard. She wanted to make him feel better, but she had a job to do, no matter how much she wanted to...

Nora had an idea! "Jaune, this is Nora. Listen, I really need to pee, so if you could do this, that'd be great. Now, first, listen to my voice. Now, follow the clock behind me." Nora squirmed a bit watching the second hand. She really had to go! She took a calming breath. "Now, on the count of three, when I boop your nose, you'll become our fearless leader. Ready? 1... 2... 3!" Nora booped his nose, her shoes squeaking on the floor.

Jaune did nothing. Nora sighed. "Back to the drawing board. But first, I need to pee!"

"TMI, Nora." She whipped around, seeing her fearless leader rubbing his jaw. She leapt into him, soon joined by Ren and Pyrrha as they hugged him. "Hey! What's going on?!"

"I cured you! That's what happened!" Nora answered. She then squeaked. "But now I really gotta go!"

"And that's how I fixed our fearless leader!" Nora beamed, sitting on the bleachers above the combat ring. Team RWBY shared a look of suspicion between them.

"That... sounds a little, uh..." Ruby began.

"Nuts?" Yang offered.

"Farfetched?" Blake added.

"Impossible?" Weiss corrected.

"Hard to believe." Ruby said. "Not that we don't believe you, but-"

"We don't believe you." Weiss said. "I don't even believe he was in the infirmary for such a condition."

"He was, though!" Nora pleaded. "And I was the one to fix him!"

"With hypnosis." Blake replied.

"Which is also impossible." Weiss scowled. "Who would believe in hypnotism as a valid treatment?" Ruby gulped and tugged on her collar. "Besides, whatever treatment you gave him hasn't improved his combat skill."

Weiss gestured to the ring, where Jaune was dueling Cardin, as usual. Of course, dueling might have been generous, since Cardin would always decimate any defense Jaune had and demolished any offense he attempted. Nothing changed. That is, until...

Jaune charged forward, shield and sword raised. He moved the shield to the side for easy swing, but Cardin crashed his Executioner into Jaune's face.

"Ooh, I think I heard a," Cardin swung back, "CRACK!" then torque his body to send Jaune flying into the wall. Jaune's aura immediately dropped to half. "Sorry, Jauney-boy, but I'm just too good when I'm seeious." Cardin chuckled as Jaune fell from the wall to his hands and knees.

"Jaune Arc has been knocked out of the ring and can no longer battle!" Professor Goodwitch announced. "The victor is-!"

"HOLD IT!" The entire class followed the voice to where Jaune stood, blood dripping from his face. He spit some out of his mouth and grinned. "I'm still good! Let me in there, Prof Good!"

"It's Professor Goodwitch, Mr. Arc," she corrected, "and you are hardly in any condition to fight."

"Aw, come on, Prof! Just 30 seconds?"

Professor Goodwitch pinched the bridge of her nose. "Very well. 30 seconds it is. Students, take your positions."

Jaune happily jogged to the center of the ring. His face was bloody, but his smile was wider than ever. Was he enjoying this?

"And begin!"

Jaune tossed his weapons to the side and charged at Cardin. He swung at the blond, but missed when Jaune slid under. Cardin stamped a foot down, but Jaune rolled away and kicked the side of Cardin's shin. He swung Executioner in retaliation, but Jaune caught the wespon and tossed it aside, laughing. Did he gk crazy?!

"I give! I give!" Cardin yielded, hands over his face.

Professor Goodwitch had to shake herself out of her disbelief. "Uh, the victor is Jaune Arc. Mr. Winchester, return to your seat, and Mr. Arc report to the infirmary. Let this be a lesson to you, students, because you can never truly expect the unexpected."

"Holy cow!" Ruby called. "Did you see Jaune?! He was so..."

"Crazy!" Yang called out.

"Reckless!" Blake added.

"Stupid!" Weiss corrected.

"Fearless!" Nora finished. "But that's my fearless leader for ya!"

Okay episode break down!

Okay so I get that Ruby just got shot though a tube, but her reaction was a bit intense. I wonder if she was a bit shaken with it being pitch black? Is Ruby afraid of the dark with everything that she has gone through, including the cellar/sewage with the Apathy Grimm? Idk I’m just kind of confused with this reaction since Ruby usually loves this kind of thing!

I’m just absolute loving Weiss this season. I’m glad she has more going on interaction wise and line wise.

BLAKE! Girl! This is her after growing/moving/dealing with her trauma. Not to mention, I totally think her teasing and comments have at least a little bit to do with Yang! She’s basically Yang right now, and I can’t tell if it’s cause Blake misses her or if it’s cause Yang and her just click that much.

Nothing more to say other than that this Penny and Ruby thing is really awesome. Maybe more than one non-straight main character is possible, not likely, but I’m totally hoping. Either way their interactions always make me happy.

Again with Blake, my girl! You can’t even deny that if Yang was present with the group she would say the same thing, or at least close to the same thing!

This heart to heart with Nora, Blake, and Weiss was everything that I wanted. Weiss with the whole sister perspective and Blake with the Adam perspective. I am looking forward to Nora figuring out she is soooo much more than being strong and hitting stuff.

Nora getting hurt is definitely gonna initiate the heart to heart with Ren. I don’t even remotely have an idea on how her and Ren’s relationship is gonna play out later in the season. But either way, I’m here for this Nora. I think this whole scenario was her releasing all the feelings she’s been bottling up, not only with Ren but everything that has happened since Beacon.

Weiss’ comments about how the Ace Ops just suddenly leaving with part of Penny’s weapon is like the only thing making me think that Penny won’t get hacked. I don’t think RWBY is stupid! They gotta know that it’s a possibility of Ironwood trying to hack her. If they don’t predict it, or make preventative measures to Penny getting hacked, imma be disappointed. Especially since it’s so obvious.

OKAY... Thts bout it. I’m contemplating wether we’re gonna see the focus on Yang and everyone next weekend, or if it’s gonna be Qrow and Robin. I’m leaning more towards Qrow and Robin because of how this episode ended. Maybe it’ll be both! Either way, I CANNOT wait. So excited!

Tossing a random thought out there - I'm curious. What would your take on an Oscar+Ozpin centered RWBY vampire AU be?

Uh okay so.

Really Don't Like Vampires.

About the only one I can stand is Alucard from the clips of Netflix Castlevania I've stumbled on and that's just because he's such an utterly rude snarky sad boi and it's honestly easy to just think of him more like a cranky human cat than anything that drinks blood.

But I'll give this a try just this once. This is absolutely never becoming a long running verse on this blog saying that now.

...

-Okay so I know very little about Vampire tropes of any kind so Imma just yeet all attempt to play to any conventions or tropes and say that TECHNICALLY, Vampires do not exist. It's like- an ancient magical curse type deal and thus technically Vamps are not dead, they are just near unkillable, very anemic, extremely sunburnable human beings. The blood drinking thing isn't actually a requirement it's just a craving because Extremely Cursed Anemic and way back in ye olden days it was hard to get any treatment for it beyond actual blood or, you know, lots of meat cooked extremely rare. The curse probably has a part to play in the blood craving as well because the point of a curse is to be cruel, probably.

-Grimm are still a thing.

-Salem is still a thing and is both Vampire and also still Grimm Queen because apparently no, belly flopping into the pool of Darkness will not kill a Vampire it just makes them even more cursed and bonkers and likely in pain a 99.999% of the time.

-Salem, because Salem™ has probably cursed a few people here and there with the vampire curse just to keep people terrified of the concept and also make Ozma's life 100% more difficult.

-Ozpin is, as far as most people know, ye skilled and eccentric Headmaster.

-As far as Ozpin's inner circle knows, he is also the newest in a long line of incarnations for a poor cursed immortal wizard tasked with stopping Salem.

-Only like- one other person (coughGlyndacough) knows that Ozpin technically has *two* curses, the second being Ozma's memories and the first being that nice little complication that comes from poking his nose into something he shouldn't and getting hit with a vampire curse.

-Ozma was not too thrilled to realize he got slam-dunked into a cursed immortal anemic and that means barring a horrible Salem-induced death he's gonna be stuck like this.

-Ozpin wasn't too thrilled either but hey. At least the curse won't pass on to someone else for a while. Now if he can just keep people from questioning the juice bag he's always carrying around and his biochemistry degree that would be awesome (almost as awesome as figuring out how to make his own fake blood to help his curse cravings without doing something as uncomfortable as Drinking Real Blood. He's pretty proud of figuring that out when he was only 20 tbh.)

-Oscar is a young farm boy who is living a perfectly normal life until Hello Curse Time™ because he's just unlucky like that. Now Oscar is a Mistralen farm boy. He has absolutely no clue what the vampire curse really is or where it comes from (looking at you, experimental Grimm that Salem enchanted the TEETH of) or that no he is not actually now some kind of dead monster. All he knows is that he woke up post a Grimm attack thinking he survived it until he got horrible mouth pain, grew fangs within a few days, started sunburning way easier than before, got enhanced senses, and started having a craving for rare cooked beef.

-Not being an idiot, he concluded he was a vampire now.

-Not being educated on actual vampire anything, he immediately freaked right out and ran away from home to keep from possibly hurting his beloved aunt.

-Cue one tired, terrified farm boy running around being terrified of himself and the world until he runs face first into some people trying to kill a nice young woman on the road.

-Cue one tired, too good for his own good farm boy using his enhanced vamp strength and speed to punt Cinder and co across the field, grab Amber and book it in a blind panic, thus yeeting plot.

-Qrow catches up later, but by that point Amber has 100% adopted this poor terrified hungry vampire child and is planning to take him to Oz to see if anything can be done for him.

-Hello Ozpin, meet your new child who needs some fake blood and sunscreen and hugs.

-Hello Oscar, meet your new dad.

-Hello Salem in the far distance, prepare to have your entire centuries long plan crumble to nothing under the combined power of the disaster tired totally-not-vampires-what-are-you-talking-about-James dad-son duo that is the Ozlings.

-There. I'm done.

RWBY VOL 8 EPISODE 1

FUCK YOU RT! FUCK YOU! YOU CAN’T BE LETTING ME GO DRY FOR EIGHT YEARS AND THEN SLAP THIS ON THE FIST EP! I ALMOST HAD A HEART ATTACK. THE AMOUNT OF FANGIRLING I EXPERIENCE ALMOST KILLED ME! BUT THAT’S WHAT YOU WANT, RIGHT? YOU WANT TO KILL ME WIITH THE CINDER FEELS. WELL I’M HERE FOR IT XD

It’s difficult to guess what exactly Cinder’s background is from this. But by her hands alone you can tell that she is working nonstop. Nice little detail. Those pigtails are adorable though.

It does make me wonder how prelevant these memories are, what triggers them, and if Cinder even realised she was doing this while experiencing that memory.

Neo being rightfully afraid. I’m scared for her at this point.

And even Cinder is afraid. She knows she messed up and she’s mentally preparing for the repercussions. Of course, she easily slips on that calm facade of hers, which honestly confirms it to me that her attitude in vol 1 to 3 was just a farce and her way of trying to be like Salem.

Salem looks genuinely surprised in this shot. She didn’t think Cinder would be able to get it in the first place...

...granted it was Neo. While Neo has every right to be upset, her being there is entirely dependent on Cinder’s usefulness.

THIS LOOK! This and the shot thereafter, just confirms that Neo and Cinder did have a form of companionship between them, that in Neo’s eyes, they were equal. But what Neo doesn’t understand is that Cinder can’t admit or tell Salem that. Cinder refers to Neo as an asset, because it is the way Cinder can protect Neo from Salem and keep her around.

These outfits where definitely worth the wait. I love Emerald’s outfit but Mercury looks fine AF XD

Poor Emerald. While I kind of expected that kind of retort from Cinder, I have a feeling their interactions will be different with no one looking. Excited for it. Also, can be talk about how JACKED Hazel is? And that outfit... I’m sorry, I don’t know how to feel about it.

Well, what IS Salem’s plan for Cinder? Surely it can’t be just to hang back? Although that time alone is bound to bring up repressed memories.

She looks so disappointed in this shot. Like this power isn’t just something she wants, but something Cinder genuinely thinks she NEEDS.

That’s awesome. You can see Alas’ forcefield up already. Salem, biding her time until it’s destroyed.

So this shot has an entirely different context. Salem is not making her say it to reaffirm loyalty. Cinder is doing it out of her own will, to convince Salem of that. Perhaps to convince herself as well.

And it worked! Salem is 100 percent convinced Cinder is still under her thumb and she is reveling in it. Now I’m wondering who’s really manipulating who.

I know it’s for narrative purposes. Like there is no time to unpack Ozpin returning in this episode as well. But still, keeping secrets is not the best decision right now.

I don’t think I’ve seen Ruby this angry and annoyed at any of her teammates, especially not Yang. As much as I dread it, I’m still exited to see how at odds Ruby is gonna become with everyone else.

I love how they cut between the current scene and future through the dialogue, really compacted everything nicely in terms of pace.

The fact that Penny suggested giving Salem the relic, only to get shot down, just confirms it that she will have to resort that in the end.

He’s in a hospital room but he looks pretty dead to me.

I know she’s still beat up but damn I’m living that hairdo.

I KNEW IT! Although I was kinda surprised that James didn’t kill the woman too. Vine seems much to at ease with all of this.

CRWBY really going for the nostalgia huh. Also. ZWEIIII.

An interesting choice to put both on them on the same clover petal. Could Harriet also be defecting?

I’m just glad Qrow has Robin to pick him up. poor mad needs some support.

THIS IS WHAT MY SLEEP PARALYSIS DEMON LOOKS LIKE. WHAT THE FUCK IS THAT? DOES SALEM HAVE WINGS? CAN SHE FLY?

Winter’s colours and uniform looks too much like Ironwood for my liking. I doubt she will defect. Weiss forging her own path ahead.

I KNEW WE WERE GONNA SEE THESE TWO AGAIN!

Salem has her loyal minions...

...while Ironwood only truly trusts himself. I love this visual.

The way everything is positioned makes me think that Penny will sacrifice herself, or will be instrumental in getting Amity’s final launch up and running.

I don’t know it if it was intentional, but this tells me that Cinder is willing or forced to walk away from even RUBY to get the power she wants.

And would even walk past the people who are actually there for her. And while this does give Neo probably cause to betray Cinder, after seeing what Salem is capable of, I’m willing to be that Neo will stay with Cinder just so that she can be on the “winning side”

Oh gods. We knew this was coming right. I’m hoping this will make Cinder realise that she is on the wrong path. Is Neo there as a symbol of possible support, or will she watch Cinder go up in flames. DON’T DO THIS TO ME CRWBY. PLEASE!

WHAT DOES IT MEAN? Like it can’t be just as shot CRWBY are fond of using, this must mean something! It connects her to both Cinder and Salem and I don’t know what to make of that? Usually this shot is after one of the characters has made a mistake in a monumental conflict and often rise from the surface to the dangerous consequences of their actions. WHAT DID YOU DO RUBY?

For a second I thought that was Cinder’s Grimm hand, and I honestly think that says enough.

This visual..... I don’t think Ruby is gonna make it out of this safety.

If anything it makes me think that Ruby’s drive and will to save Remnant, only looking at the big picture will leave her at odds, if not alienated to her team through this volume.

But there is only one way to find out.
