Winter soldier x reader ft sex pollen
Unhinged winter soldier with sex pollen. This is wildly inappropriate (with some fluff?...) but I thought of it so you must all suffer with me. Imagine Hydra filling the room with sex pollen immediately after Buck is wiped, sending him out at in his most feral state in hopes that the winter soldier will lose control and give into the urges they've forced into him. They need him to breed another super soldier since they were unable to replicate the serum in his veins.
As soon as the dust fills the room, his pupils dilate, his tac suit far too hot, his veins pumping so hard they feel like they're going to burst. The straps holding him down release and his chest is heaving, trying to calm down the primal needs hes feeling, pain prickling his skin the longer he stays in the room. He grunts, striding out of the room and into the night, chasing a craving he has to get out.
He moves without a soul detecting him, until a sweet scent catches his attention. Floral, natural, innocent. Fertile. He's suddenly hyper focused on the thing his body is screaming for, following the unsuspecting woman, his teeth grinding through the pain. She enters a building and he observes each window before seeing a lights turn on, her nude silhouette appearing through the curtains.
It takes no effort for him to climb up the fire escape, easily prying the locked window open only to be met with the sound of the shower running. Her scent permeates all his senses and he nearly strips off all his clothes then and there, the pollen causing lust that makes his bones ache. The water shuts off and hes waiting like a predator waiting for its prey, sitting perfectly still while the door clicks open. She gasps and freezes in place and he sight alone makes him growl.
Pathetic little bunny.
"Who-who are you" she whispers, clutching her towel tightly together though it's not like she didn't know. Tears fill her eyes seeing the deadly soldier people spoke about, unsure if he even existed, the very rumor now sitting on her bed. He doesn't anything, groaning at the feeling of his arousal steadily dripping from his cock, palming his erection.
"Please-don't" She shakes her head, seeing his hardness pressing against his pants, his large presence suffocating because she knows there's no where to run. He slips his mask off, revealing his dangerously handsome face, his eyes wild with lust and need.
"But I have to" He grits out, stalking over to her and grabbing her by the waist, burying his nose in her freshly washed hair, deeply groaning at the scent of her bodywash, "mne eto nuzhno, zayka" [I need this, bunny]
"No-I-I'll do anything-" She trembles, squeezing her eyes shut feeling his warm wet tongue lick up her neck as his mismatched hands rip her towel away, pulling her hips flush against his cock. The rough material of his tactical hear scratches her soft skin, making her whimper when when he bites her shoulder.
"takoy myagkiy krolik" [such a soft bunny] He throws her like a doll, her ass bouncing off the mattress, flat on her back back while he undoes his pants, pulling his cock out. She squeezes her legs shut, shaking her head, his fat bobbing length taunting her as he pumps himself while crawling onto the bed.
"It hurts bunny" He groans, forcing her legs apart, her natural scent nearly causing pain as he stares at her pussy. Her button between her legs involuntarily twitches and he pinches it hard making her squeal, the sound causing a drop of precum to spill out.
His head is so focused on getting his release, he doesn't bother prepping her, shoving his cock into her tight cunt, grunting and forcing his length in when he feels resistance. He stars to fuck her hard, holding both wrists in his metal hand, keeping her pinned under him while he splits her open.
"Hurts-too much-to big-stop-" She gasps out her pained cries melting into muddled moans of pleasure, her own body betraying her, feeling her own warmth wetting his cock making it easier for him to slip in and out. "Oh god-soldat-stop-don't-
"You're wet" He hisses, almost accusatorily, pounding her harder, faster until the bed shakes and scratches the floor, the serum pumping in his veins making his cock sensitive.
"I need this-I need it" Sweat beads at his forehead, his balls feeling heavier than usual, the pollen causing his body to produce more semen than he naturally would.
"YA chuvstvuyu zapakh, kakoy ty mokryy, zayka" [I can smell how wet you are bunny] His balls throb painfully, his cock ready to burst as his thrusts become more erratic. He snarled against her neck as pleasure starts to lick up his spine, the bruising grip on her wrists tightening as he starts to pump her full of his load without warning.
She whimpers feeling shame for the delicious stretch of his cock, her cunt fluttering, swollen from his abusive pace. She finds herself flipped over with her ass in the air, her face pressed against the sheets, his cock rock hard again, prodding at her puffy folds.
"Not done-need more" he growls lowly, stripping his clothes off, his body heat dialed to 100. His crotch is covered in cum, a mix of his and hers, the smell of her driving him insane as he grabs her hips and slams her to meet his thrusts again. He has more power at this angle, fucking her like a mad man, groaning with his head thrown back, eyes rolled to the back of his head, only focused on pleasuring his cock.
"Ty shlyukha Zimnego soldata, ty voz'mesh' to, chto ya tebe dayu" [You're the winter soldier's whore, you'll take what I give you] He's at his most unhinged, grunting and groaning, fucking her like an animal, her muffled screams only causing his cock to swell more. "Make me feel good, make it go away bunny"
"Soldat please stop-too big" she begs and he fucks her harder, making her moan, pulling another orgasm out of her body even if she fought against it. His thighs meet the back of hers, rolling and rocking his hips, hitting her cervix until her sweet juices squirt out of her, obscene sounds of skin on skin filling he room. "SOLDAT"
"I have to breed you bunny" He shakes his head, unwilling to leave until he's sure she's pregnant with his child, forcing every bit of his cum into her. "My fertile little bunny" He nips your skin, running his hands over her tummy, imaging it firm and round with his baby growing inside. He loved the thought of such an unsuspecting, sweet angel carrying the child of he soldier, all of his cum making a mess in her pussy.
By the last round, the pollen has started to dissipate and the cloud is lifting. He pants, still rutting into her pussy, something tugging at his conscious, shaking his head when the lusty animalistic haze weavers.
"T-tell me your name" He rasps, his heart beating wildly, loosening his grip on her. She whimpers from pain and to her surprise, he slowly down, still grinding himself in, burying her face into her neck. "zayka, pozhaluysta" [bunny, please]
"Y/n" she whispers, unsure of why she told him, her voice catching in her throat when his lips press against her skin. She's limp in his hold, the smell of sex permeating the room, the sheets soaked with his cum, but nothing more full than her cunt.
"Y/n" He moans, his body trembling as he nears the end of his final release, stilling till he's milked himself dry, her soft body worn under him. Something is wrong, he can feel it, the emotionless control he had before, slipping from his grasp. He yearns to hold the woman in his arms but he can't .Something stops him.
His movements are robotic as he pulls away and slips his clothes back on, memories unfamiliar to him flashing through his mind.
He wasn't the soldier.
He was-
Her soft snores pull her from his spiral, looking up to seeing her sleeping form, fucked out from the way he'd ruined her. He frowns at the unfamiliar feeling of concern he's experiencing, pulling the covers over her body.
"Thank you bunny" He whispers, making her whine in her sleep, calling for the soldier.
"I'm-
He shakes his head, his previously wild replaced with those of a young man from Brooklyn.
"B-Bucky"

A throbbing headache greeted you as you peeled your eyes open, the bright rays of sunshine coming in through the window directly onto your face. You groaned, mouth dry as sand. Regret over those last few drinks washed over you as you rolled over, body shaky as you pushed yourself up.
“Morning!” Gwyn’s voice sounded through your blurry vision – her normally soft tone was ear-splitting due to your hangover.
“Ugh, please tone down your mouth noises.” You grumbled, rubbing your temples and yawning.
The redhead rolled her eyes, handing you a tray. “That’s what you get for drinking so much. A servant brought us a tray each for breakfast. Drink water and the tonic, you’ll feel better.”
You sighed, trying to fight off the hangover shakes as you reached for the tray. On the golden platter was a glass of water, a vial of liquid meant to ease how shitty you felt, and a plate with toast, eggs, fruit, and thick slices of bacon. The food smelled heavenly, but your stomach churned in protest. So you quickly downed the tonic before slowly sipping water, your throat no longer feeling like a desert.
Nesta had joined Gwyn on the bed in the far corner in an effort to get Emerie to sit up. The Illyrian female protested, eyes squeezed shut as she cursed the sun for being so bright. Despite your state, you snorted. At least you were better off than Emerie.
“Come on,” Nesta insisted. “You have to at least have a sip of water.”
Emerie shook her head vehemently, then cursed, dizzied. “No. I’m gonna die if I move another inch.”
Gwyn reached down to Emerie’s tray and grabbed the glass of water, bringing it up to her lips. “Here, that way you won’t have to move.” The hungover female protested, but Gwyn tilted the glass up anyways, forcing the water into her mouth. She sputtered for a second, but eventually swallowed some of the cold liquid.
With Gwyn now settled coaxing water into Emerie, Nesta headed towards your bed, smirking. “Morning, sunshine.” She said coolly. Her hair was loose and messy around her shoulders, eyes slightly red from the lack of sleep. But she still looked incredible, despite having drank more than you.
“Not fair.” You complained, rubbing your dry eyes again and scowling at your mate. “I drank half as much as you and you seem perfectly fine.”
Nesta plopped down beside you, shrugging. “Perk of drinking myself half to death for a few months, I guess.” She joked, then motioned to your bacon. “Are you going to eat that?”
“Go for it.” You shook your head. “I can’t imagine eating anything right now.”
A wider smirk came over Nesta’s face as she popped the bacon into her mouth, blue-grey eyes going up and down your body. “I can.”
You blushed, smacking her with your pillow. “What has gotten into you?” You hissed playfully so that Gwyn and Emerie wouldn’t hear. Your body had responded to her words instantly, heating up even more and making you squirm.
She shrugged, taking the second piece of bacon off your plate as well. “I’m just glad I can finally show appreciation for my mate without worrying about someone hacking my head off for it.”
“Fair enough.”
The four of you picked away at your breakfasts in silence, much to you and Emerie’s relief. The tonic began to work after twenty minutes, your headache slowly easing up and the fog around your brain clearing. Eventually, Eris and Azriel came through the doors, stifling their laughs at how hungover or sleep deprived you all were. After saying goodbye to your friends, Emerie grumbled something about the likelihood of throwing up all over Azriel as she took his hand, preparing to winnow. Gwyn’s cheeks flushed slightly as she took Azriel’s other hand, the spymaster’s shadows curling around her slender wrist. You raised an eyebrow at her, but she blushed harder and refused to meet your gaze.
After Azriel, Gwyn, and Emerie left, Nesta left for the bathing chambers to freshen up while you flopped back down into the bed, pulling the sheets over your head. “I’m staying here all day,” You declared. “Nobody wake me.”
You heard Eris chuckle, feeling the bed shift as he sat down beside you. He yanked the sheets down, and you whined in protest. “Eris!” You cried out. “Please, I’m so hungover. I just want to rot in this bed all day.”
“Too bad,” Eris said with a delighted grin on his face. “Because I have another surprise for you.”
You groaned, turning onto your stomach and burying your face into the pillow. “I cannot handle another surprise right now.”
“Trust me. You’ll want to see this. Now get out of bed.”
“Fuck you.”
“You wish. Now get up.”
When you didn’t move, strong hands grabbed your waist, pulling you into the air with surprising strength and flinging you over the High Lord’s shoulder. You yelped, the blood rushing to your head as Eris gripped the back of your thighs, holding you steady as he walked.
“Put. Me. Down. Right. Now.” You hissed through gritted teeth, stomach churning as the world swayed around you.
“Absolutely not.” Eris quipped, squeezing your legs once and he strode down the hallway. “Besides, you’re too hungover to use any of those sneaky moves the shadowsinger taught you. So suck it up, do not vomit on me, and thank me later for dragging you out of bed.”
You groaned as Eris carried you up a winding staircase with ease, your upper body swaying across his back. “Where are you even taking me?” You asked, defeated.
“Your surprise is out on the private balcony.”
“What is the surprise?”
Eris snorted. “Mother above, you and Nesta are the worst when it comes to surprises, you know that? Nosy creatures.”
“You could have at least given me time to prepare.” You grumbled, realising you were still in your pyjamas.
“So you’d rather I have told you I had a surprise in advance and then let you stew over it for a whole day, leaving you in limbo before finally revealing it?”
You rolled your eyes, knowing he had a point. You didn’t answer, and Eris laughed victoriously. “Thought so.” He said smugly.
Finally, after climbing up a mountain’s worth of staircases, Eris finally set you down. You wobbled, legs unsteady and clinging to the High Lord for balance as you adjusted to being upright again. A large wooden door stood in front of you, elegant whirling carvings along the edges. You shivered at the bone chilling cold of the stairwell, and Eris was quick to drape his warm cloak over your shoulders.
“Thanks.” You said before shooting him a glare. “But if you throw me over your shoulder like that again, I will nail your balls to the wall.”
Pure predatory smirk overcame Eris’s face as he met your gaze evenly. “Oh, please. We both know you enjoyed being tossed around.”
Your cheeks burned, unable to deny that his words rang partially true. You slapped his arm, and hissed at him, “This surprise better be worth it.”
“Oh, I know it is. Once again, feel free to use your spare time to brainstorm all the ways you can thank me later.” Eris simply winked, turning the knob and pushing the door open. You squinted, eyes taking a second to adjust to the bright morning sunlight that glared at you.
Stepping through the doorway onto the breezy balcony, your eyes began to focus. A tall, male figure stood a few feet away, the rays of the sun shining behind him and casting him in an otherworldly glow. Strands of red hair blew in the breeze, the light reflecting off of a familiar golden eye.
“Lucien…” Your voice was barely above a whisper as tears began to pool in your eyes at the sight of your friend coming into view. His golden skin shone in the light of Autumn, his red hair half tied back, revealing his chiselled, handsome face. It was filled with a mix of emotions as he stared back at you – awe, happiness, regret, all at once.
“Hey there, (Y/N).” Lucien said softly, lips pulling up in a smile.
All nausea and dizziness vanished as you surged forward, running towards your old friend. Your heart raced with excitement as you leapt into his outstretched arms, burying your face in his shoulder. There was no hope at stopping the sobs that choked up your throat, so you let them out. Lucien’s strong arms wrapped around you, holding you up as you clung onto his tall form.
Time was askew as you hugged him. It could have been hours or seconds for all you knew. You hadn’t seen Lucien since those few minutes after you escaped Rhys’s prison, all those weeks ago.
Eventually, Lucien gently set you down. You turned around to ask Eris how he had found and gotten his brother here so quickly, but your mate had slipped away, leaving you alone with Lucien. When you turned back to your friend, his remaining eye simmered with emotion. “I’ve missed you.” He said, squeezing your hands in his own.
“I’ve missed you, too.” You said through tears. “I’m so sorry, Lucien.”
He frowned. “What do you possibly have to be sorry for?”
“For everything,” You gulped. “For everything you’ve been through, for how you’ve been treated. For not trying to find you sooner–”
Lucien interrupted you sternly. “No. Do not say that. None of this is your fault. You’re safe, that’s all that matters. I’m sorry, too.”
“What do you possibly have to be sorry for?” You threw his words back at him playfully, despite the sadness still lacing your voice.
Lucien squeezed your hands again, regret crossing his kind face. “For not fighting harder for you.”
Your heart cracked a bit at his broken voice. Lucien was the best male you had ever known, always putting others above himself no matter the personal cost. “You showed up with armies from the Spring Court to get me back. I’d hardly call that not fighting for me.”
“I meant before that. Feyre and Rhys told me that you were enjoying Velaris and your new missions as a spy, which was why you hadn’t come to visit me. They even went so far as to bring me a scarf claiming it was from you. I simply believed them, and didn’t question it. It wasn’t until Azriel found me and told me the truth about your situation that I realised what was going on.”
“Lucien–” You tried to speak, to reassure him that he was not at fault here, but your friend cut you off sharply.
“No, it is not okay.” He said sternly. “I should have known better. I had never trusted Rhysand, but decided to take his word for it anyways. I was living in the human lands minding my own business while you were being tortured by that scumbag. And I will carry that guilt with me for the rest of my life. I failed you, (Y/N). And I am deeply sorry.”
You smiled sadly. “Listen to me. You did not lock me up. You did not deceive people. You did not have anything to do with what happened to me. That was Rhys and Feyre. They failed me, not you. And I made it out, that’s all that matters. You risked your life going back to Tamlin and raising the armies for me. If you really wish to seek penance for your guilt, consider that your debt paid.”
Lucien sighed, shaking his head. “I just can’t believe they put you through that.”
“I can.” You snorted, leading him over to the soft couch by the marble railing, overlooking the vast forest below.
“With Rhys, yes I agree.” Lucien said as he settled down next to you. “But Feyre… the girl I knew who went under the mountain would not have ripped open a court of innocent people for petty reasons. Before Rhys took her away, she gave her own jewels to a poor citizen who did not have enough money to pay the Tithe. It seemed that every time she went away to the Night Court with him, pieces of her slowly chipped away and were replaced with new ones that Rhys created. She was so young, so vulnerable, and now she’s completely under his spell. The fact she could let any of this happen to you disgusts me, and I am ashamed that she manipulated me into believing she was a better friend to me than I ever was to her.”
The autumn breeze soothed your warm face, the fresh air clearing your foggy mind as you drank in the beauty of the view. Lucien was right – the Feyre you had heard about in the stories of Under the Mountain was not the Feyre you had met. As much as you resented her, you couldn’t help but spare her a shred of pity. “She chose her path,” You said steadily. “Just as I have chosen mine.”
Lucien fiddled with the rings on his fingers, playfully elbowing your ribs. “Your path as High Lady and my awful brother’s wife, you mean.”
You rolled your eyes, shoving him back. “He’s not so bad.”
Lucien laughed sharply, a beautiful sound you had missed dearly. “Ok, sure. Come talk to me in a few centuries when you’ve had enough of his bullshit and are debating throwing him off a cliff.”
“Eris seems so enamoured with me, I’m sure all I’d have to do would be to tell him to go fling himself off the cliff and he’d happily do so without question.”
“Unfortunately, I think you’re right.”
The two of you chuckled, just like old times. You adjusted Eris’s cloak, wrapping it tighter around your body. His scent filled your nostrils, filling you with content. “Lucien,” You said hesitantly. “Can I ask you something?”
“Anything.” The male replied with confidence.
You took a breath before speaking. “Eris is my mate. He has been extremely good to me throughout all this, but you’ve known him and this court almost your whole life. What am I truly getting into by marrying him?”
Lucien was silent for a moment, as if contemplating his answer. Regardless, you knew nothing he could say would change your mind. You wanted to marry Eris, and you knew he would look out for you. But marriage and the workings of Autumn? it was still unknown territory for you.
“Eris has always been a puzzle,” Lucien said slowly. “For as a long as I can remember, he’s been difficult to figure out. Everything he does is for a reason, and sometimes I can never figure it out. He switches personalities so fast it makes my head spin, and I could never tell what kind of male he truly was because of it. He was an excellent brother when Beron was not around, but the second he entered the room Eris became a different person.
“But it’s different with you. He’s different around you and Nesta, like he’s beginning to thaw. I think it will take a while for him to get used to not having to pretend to be Beron’s prodigy. But with time, he will soften up. Eris knows what he wants and will do anything to get it. He will protect you with unyielding loyalty, even if at times he may seem aloof. There will be times where you grow frustrated with him, and he may shut you out. But from what I’ve seen, I have no doubt that the three of you will be able to work things out. As for this court, give it time. The people can be frosty. Do not show weakness, for they will devour every ounce of exposed flesh like starved vultures. With the right leadership, I do believe it can change. But be patient, and unyielding.”
You mulled over Lucien’s words. He was right – it would be ridiculous to think everything would be smooth sailing from here. Being mates did not mean any complications in your dynamic would be immediately soothed over. It would take a long time for you to recover from and process everything that happened since you were sent to the House of Wind. Just as it would take a long time for Nesta to be comfortable with bathtubs and crackling fire. There would be challenges and disagreements, but at your core you knew it was nothing the three of you couldn’t manage.
“And how do you feel about us all together?” You asked. “Me, Nesta, and Eris, I mean.”
Lucien shrugged. “I see no issue with it. As long as the three of you are happy, that’s all that matters.”
“I wish the rest of this court felt that way.” You sighed. “They didn’t react well.”
He barked out a laugh. “No, I can’t imagine they did.”
You tilted your head back, letting the sun warm your face as you sighed. “So, when did you manage to sneak in here? I assume your banishment is lifted.”
“Yes, it is. Eris brought me here yesterday. I spent the day with my mother. Thank you, by the way, for what you did for her.”
Your heart swelled with happiness. You knew how much Lirilla loved Lucien, how much it pained your friend to be away from his mother for so long. She had a soft spot for him, as he was the least cruel out of all her sons. Every day you thanked the Mother that Lucien had not turned out like Beron.
In the distance, three dragons circled the air, sunning their wings in the rays of sunshine. Their gentle cries rumbled throughout the air like a song carried by the breeze. You snuck a glance at Lucien, whose eyes were fixed on the beasts circling the mountains in the distance. “Eris really did it.” He mumbled as Athariel spun upwards and around Zorzimril.
You whipped your head around. “You KNEW he had dragons?”
Lucien was awestruck as he continued observing the creatures. “Technically, yes. But I never believed him. When I was younger, Eris showed me 3 unusual rocks, claiming that they were dragon eggs. We played with them for hours, and I helped him build a nest to keep them warm. He swore me to secrecy, saying it was our own little game. He told me one day the eggs would hatch, and would grow into three big dragons. Then he, myself, and my mother could each climb on one and fly away from everything.” Lucien’s voice grew sombre, his eye darkening as he continued. “Then one day we found the rocks broken, and Eris told me the dragons had flown away after hatching. I was devastated, I had wanted to see one so badly. But he said they were gone, and I was to never breathe a word about them to anyone. I guess the slippery prick found them and raised them in secret on his own.”
“How did Eris keep dragons a secret from everyone?”
“Keeping secrets is one of his many talents. As I am sure you know very well since he hid the fact he knew that he was your mate.”
You snorted at the jibe, rolling your eyes. “Wow, so you really know everything then, don’t you?”
Lucien laughed, stretching his arms and resting his hands behind his head. The image reminded you of a cat sunning itself in the window. “Unfortunately, yes.” He said. “Eris and my mother filled me in. Among other things.”
You frowned. “Among other things? What does that mean?”
Lucien’s expression was grave, and he turned to face you. His golden eye gleamed in the sunlight but was equally intense as his regular eye as he stared you down. “Promise me that what I’m about to say, you keep to yourself, Eris, my mother, and Nesta.” He said seriously.
Confused, you nodded. Lucien took a deep breath before continuing. “Beron was not my father, apparently.”
You blinked in surprise, but bit your tongue. Lucien had always looked slightly different than his brothers, but you had never really thought twice about it. “My mother had an affair with Helion of the Day Court,” Lucien admitted, his voice hollow as if he didn’t even believe the words that were coming out of his mouth. “I’m his son, not Beron’s.”
Your jaw was slack. “Wow…” You muttered. “Does Helion know?”
Lucien shook his head. “No. But my mother has always been in love with him. It will take her a while to adjust to a reality without Beron hovering over her shoulder, to allow herself to love him openly. If that is what she desires, of course.”
“And what about you?” You asked your friend. “What do you want from all this? I mean… how does it feel?”
Lucien’s expression was distant, as if his mind was elsewhere. It wasn’t hard to tell by the way his jaw tensed that he was thinking of his childhood with his father, remembering every cruel word and ruthless fist he endured. How maybe if things had been different, he could have been spared Beron’s suffering and been raised by Helion – a father who did not delight in torturing his sons. Lucien had a rough life, one that did not seem to be getting any easier. From being banished from Autumn Court to living in a state of uneasy limbo with his mate who seemingly wanted nothing to do with him, Lucien’s life was never truly stable. He was always bouncing from one place to another, never truly fitting in.
You hoped that with his banishment lifted, Lucien would choose to come back to Autumn. After months of being separated from your best friend, you wanted nothing more than to have him back by your side.
“I’m not quite sure,” Lucien finally answered. “On the one hand, I am glad I am not actually Beron’s son. But Helion being my father changes very little. I was raised by Beron, and for better or for worse I am the way I am because I was a part of his family. In my blood, I am Autumn Court and always will be.”
“But Helion has no other children,” You pointed out carefully. “Which technically makes you the heir to the Day Court, whether you like it or not.”
He shook his head. “It is a power and title I do not want. I’ve never desired to be a Lord of anything, especially not one of an entire court.”
You smiled softly, leaning your head into his shoulder and sighing contently. “I know. That’s why you’re such a good male.”
Lucien wrapped his arm around your shoulder and squeezed you closer to him. “I will let my mother choose what to do about Helion.” He continued. “She may well want to forget the whole thing and leave the past behind. If that is her wish, I am content to go along with it. If she wants to rekindle a relationship with him, then she may tell him that I am his son, and we would go from there. Besides, not all of us are High Lord power hungry like you.”
You laughed, squeezing your eyes shut. “You’re going to make fun of me for becoming High Lady of your court for as long as we live, aren’t you?”
“Of course.” Lucien purred. “Someone has to keep you humble so that power doesn’t get to that pretty head of yours.”
“Careful,” You teased, grinning. “Or I’ll force you to scribe notes during all the council meetings for a decade.”
“Never mind, reinstate my banishment and bounty, please. I’d prefer that over being your note boy for your and your mates’ stuffy meetings.”
Your laughter echoed across the wind, just as Zorzimril let out a playful screech in the distance. For a few minutes, the two of you sat in comfortable silence, until your curiosity got the better of you, and you asked, “So… speaking of mates, has anything happened with Elain?”
The male sighed, rubbing his face with his free hand. You felt a muscle in his neck twitch at the mention of her name, an instinctual reaction like the mere mention of her rang a bell inside him. “No,” He said stiffly. “And frankly, at this point I wish that she would just sever the bond if she wanted nothing to do with me. It’s agonising. And Feyre and Rhys keep her cloistered away, knowing it would be too hard for me to try and visit her after everything that’s happened. I want Elain to be happy, even if it’s not with me, but I truly don’t think she would be happy in the Night Court. I just… I just want her out of there. To give her a chance to choose her own life.”
“From what I’ve seen, she seems content to let her sister choose her life for her.” You kept your words delicate, not wanting to offend Lucien. As much as he was your friend, he was still a mated male – and now you understood that protectiveness he likely felt.
“I think the Archeron sisters need to be apart from each other.” Lucien said, stiffening but not snarling at your comment. “They’ve all been through a lot, and none of us will ever truly understand the history they have because we did not live it. Nesta needs this freedom here in Autumn to build a life for herself after everything was taken away from her. Feyre, for all her faults, needed to be loved in a way that was different from how her sisters loved her, and now she seems to have that. Elain… Elain has been coddled by both of them, from what I’ve heard. She needs to stand on her own two feet and figure out what she wants and how she can navigate this new life by herself.”
You picked at one of the threads of the cushion. “And you want to help Elain do that? Even if it means she severs the bond?”
He nodded. “Yes. I will not lie and say I would not be upset if she chose to do so, but she deserves the choice. We all do. Besides, isn’t Nesta planning on severing her bond with Cassian?”
“We don’t think there’s even a bond.” You admitted, stomach fluttering with nerves at the mention of Cassian’s name. The three of you still hadn’t figured out how you’d deal with that. “It’s a touchy subject. But we know he isn’t her mate.”
Lucien’s brows furrowed. “But Rhys said Cassian was her mate.”
“And you’re going to suddenly start taking his word now?”
“Point taken.” He corrected himself.
“Something about the whole situation is just weird.” You muttered. “Maybe a link between them is some kind of punishment from the Cauldron. Azriel is investigating it secretly.”
Your friend raised an eyebrow. “He’s still in the Night Court? After everything he did to go against Rhys?”
“Yup. I think Rhys knows he’s too valuable to lose at the end of the day, which is why his head isn’t on the chopping block. Azriel is good at playing both sides I guess.”
That comfortable silence fell over you for another few minutes as you happily existed in each other’s company. You huddled into Lucien’s warmth, begrudgingly knowing Eris was right and this had been worth getting violently dragged out of bed.
Later, you would think of ways to thank him.
An idea formed in your head as you thought of your mate. You propped yourself up, turning to face your friend. “Lucien?” You asked hesitantly.
He raised an eyebrow. “Yes?”
“Can I ask you to do something for me?”
“Sure.”
You took a deep breath, wringing your hands together before blurting out, “Would you walk me down the aisle at the wedding?”
Lucien blinked in surprise, and then a grin spread across his face. “Really?”
You smiled. “Yes. I can’t think of anyone else I’d rather have giving me away.”
“Giving you away? I thought you wanted to smash all archaic male-oriented traditions in this court.”
“Don’t be an ass.” You smacked his arm playfully. “I do. But… I won’t have any of my family at the wedding like I always imagined as a child, and you’re the next closest thing. I just want you by my side, that’s all.”
Lucien reached forward, wrapping his big arms around you in an embrace. “Of course I will.” He muttered, squeezing you tight. “Thank you for allowing me the honour.”
The dragons screeched happily in the distance, reflecting the content you felt in your chest. So you inhaled your friend’s familiar scent mixed with the fresh autumn air. Everything you had done to get to this point was all worth it.
 *********************
You all but skipped down the hallway towards Eris’s office in the private library. After hours of talking, Lucien had left to go on a ride through the forest with Lirilla. You had briefly bathed and changed, freshening up to remove the lingering mustiness from your body after the sleepover and alcohol.
You felt ten times lighter as you swung open the door with a force so strong the expensive knob bounded off the wall. Eris’s head snapped up from where he sat in a plush armchair, a mountain of papers in his hand. He was dressed in a billowy white shirt, the laces at the neckline undone and ever-so-slightly pushed open, revealing part of his toned chest. Red hair was tied back loosely behind his neck, and he raised an eyebrow. “Where’s the fire?” He asked dryly.
You simply bounded across the room in three steps and flung yourself into Eris’s arms, crawling into his lap and pressing your lips against his. His eyebrows shot up and he let out a muffled noise of surprise, but brought his hands up to your hips and pulled you closer. He tasted like cinnamon and coffee, melting in your mouth as you kissed him fiercely.
Your skin tingled at the sensation of his hands on your hips as they slowly crept downwards, giving your backside a firm squeeze. The mating bond was practically purring in your chest at the contact, urging you to give into your desires. But you reigned yourself in, finally pulling your lips away from Eris’s after your lungs begged for air.
The High Lord smirked up at you, face flushed from your kiss. “I take it you liked your surprise?” His hands stayed on your backside, gently gliding up your hips then back down.
You nodded, throwing your arms around his neck and hugging him. “You’re amazing. Thank you, thank you, thank you.”
He chuckled, letting his lips drag over the shell of your ear as he spoke. “You’re very welcome, my dear.”
You pulled away, tangling your hands in Eris’s hair, tugging on the end of the locks right by his scalp. The High Lord tilted his chin back and let out a breath, eyelids fluttering as he grinned. You leaned down and pressed your lips to the column of his newly exposed throat. Underneath you, Eris shuddered as you grazed your teeth up his warm, pale skin before pressing a kiss just below his jaw. “What exactly do you think you’re doing, little fox?” He asked, but his voice was strained, hands gripping your hips tightly.
“Thanking you.” You purred, moving your head to the other side of his neck and repeating your actions.
Eris swallowed thickly, but chuckled. “Oh, sweet thing. Thanking me properly will have to wait until after the wedding.”
You leaned back, sitting up and frowning with confusion. Your mate’s subtle rejection stung slightly. “Seriously? I didn’t peg you for the wait until after marriage type.”
“I’m not,” He corrected, sliding his hands up from your hips and onto your lower back, pulling you closer to him once again. “Believe me, I want nothing more than to take you against this very desk and bury myself between your thighs until time loses all meaning. But I have plans for how I want to fuck you, the both of you. And it involves waiting a little longer. Can you do that for me?”
You nodded, but stuck out your bottom lip ever so slightly. Eris smacked your rear sternly. “Don’t pout,” He scolded. “Brats don’t get nice things. And you’re a good girl, aren’t you?”
“When I feel like it.” You shrugged playfully. Eris’s grin widened like a cat that had just eaten the canary.
“Oh, I am going to have so much fun with you.” His voice was a slick purr, heating up your skin as if his very own fire was running through your veins. Eris pressed a kiss to your cheek, then tapped your hip. “Now, I hate to brush you off like this, but as you can see I have a mountain of paperwork to get through before the wedding to make sure everything is in order. Nesta needs your help in the main hall, she’s all alone with those wedding planners and threatened to shave my head if I don’t send you to her the second you’re done with Lucien.”
You crawled off his lap, rolling your eyes playfully. “Aw, poor High Lord has paperwork.” You said mockingly. “You poor pampered thing.”
Eris shot you a glare. “Careful, little fox. Soon enough you’ll have your own mountain of paperwork as High Lady. That is, if you actually want to help me run this court. Unless you’d rather be like little Archeron over in the Night Court and be just a pretty face.”
You crossed your arms defiantly, knowing he was right. “Fine.” You turned on your heel to exit the study, cringing slightly as you noticed the chip in the wall from where you flung the door open.
“Little fox?” Eris called out.
You turned to face him at the door frame. “Yes?”
Eris’s smirk was devilish as he said coolly, “Do not seek out Nesta to satisfy your desires. She and I have already discussed the matter and are on the same page, so she will say the same thing I have told you, that you have to wait until after the wedding. And don’t you dare try to satisfy your urges on your own. If you do, I will know.”

A Cage Of Gold
(Part 2 of The New Goddess - Previous: Small Minded)
Clouds break in slow motion upon the walls of the crystal palace. The grand structure floats high in the sky, far above a kingdom bathed in the rays of the morning sun.
The view is stunning from up here. It’s like eating breakfast on the sky’s shoreline. Almost hard to imagine that not so long ago I was one of those tiny specks struggling for survival down below, in the streets of a city that looks very different from this vantage.
I can’t say I miss that life.
Standing up, I leave the table behind me. A backward glance reveals the dishes have already been removed, as has the table I was just using and the window I’d been gazing out of. No servants here, at least in the traditional sense; the palace itself serves. I’m still getting used to that.
I resume my daily exploration, ambling where my whims direct me. The steady tap of my boots echoes through a hallway that takes me to another wing of the palace, varying slightly in style from the one with my quarters. Has it been here the whole time? Last I came by this way, the same path led to a garden, and the time before that, a library. No idea whether these rooms still exist when I’m not visiting them or whether the palace simply chooses to guide me to wherever it wants me.
Once upon a time, I’d have gone out of my way to spite anyone that tried to lead me to do anything I hadn’t already decided I wanted, but I guess things change when you find religion. My Goddess is my shepherd, and I happily walk the path She lays before me.
Today Her path takes me to an ornate pair of doors. With a gentle push, they glide effortlessly open in a wordless invitation for me to continue.
A gorgeous foyer greets me, lavishly appointed with soft rugs, ornate tapestries, gold trimmed furnishings. It’s an entryway fit for the royal quarters of some big-deal monarch, much like the lodging provided for my use. Excitement gets the better of me, and I feel an uncontrollable grin split my face as I break into a jog. Could the other guest here be…?
From the antechamber to the private dining area through several more opulent rooms—I’m sure palaces have fancy names I’ll never know for each of them—I check for an occupant, finding nobody until I barge into the bedchamber and find myself staring at the sorceress who killed me.
Now, I’d like to credit my faith in Her for helping me stamp down the spike of fear that suddenly grips me, but to be honest with myself, it’s the gold shackles binding her arms, the collar of bone, and the chains anchoring her to the wall that are doing most of the heavy lifting there.
“Velle.”
The raven-haired woman responds to her name with a wild-eyed stare, managing to look like a wretched and bedraggled mess even while wearing an immaculately tailored dress of luscious crimson, trimmed with lace. Black-painted lips open and close wordlessly, shock momentarily robbing her of speech.
“You escaped?” The words come at last. “No, of course you did. You were the picklock, were you not? The criminal. You were the one who helped them escape every trap I set. You probably broke free of a hundred prison cells to avoid justice whenever it came for you.”
The sorceress Velle leaps to her feet, and to my surprise the chains extend from the wall to allow her this much freedom. “Set me free,” she hisses in desperation. “Let me join you on your escape, and I will grant you anything you desire. Riches? Power? An army at your command!” Her eyes dart around the room. Her voice cracks. “Anything your heart imagines. Just hurry, before she returns!”
“Wow.” This is too much to process right now. “I mean, wow.” There, that should clarify my position on the topic. Wait, hold on, I might be able to do a bit better: “What are you on about?”
I recognize the expression that crosses her face. I’ve seen it on a lot of people I’ve met, usually accompanied by the question, “are you stupid?” Velle, at least, refrains from saying that aloud, choosing instead to gesture with shackled arms in a way that makes her chain rattle at me rather pointedly.
“Yeah, I didn’t have anything like that,” I reply. “No point in chaining someone up who doesn’t want to escape. I mean, have you looked at this place?” I gesture at the opulence surrounding us. “Who would try to escape paradise?”
“A cage of gold is still a cage when those inside cannot choose to leave it.”
“Oh no!” I gasp in mock horror. “I can’t leave behind all these free meals and silk sheets and actually having a bit of privacy for once! I can’t return to the thrilling life of a cutpurse, running from guards and sleeping outside! How I’ll miss wearing the same mud-soaked clothes for months at a time—”
“Shut up.”
“Come on, I’m not done. I’m still lamenting that I’ll never again experience the sublime joy of starving on the road, deciding to try eating berries I found, not expecting the stomach cramps followed by explosive—”
“I don’t want to hear it!”
“Are you sure? I can go into detail. I remember so much so vividly. Actually hold on, I’ve got one more memory for you: There was this time an evil sorceress fired shards of glowy stuff that ripped through my most important organs and killed me for no good reason.”
“I think you mean sh—”
“That one really hurt, you know. I died about it.”
Velle scoffs. “Obviously you did not die.”
I erupt in a fit of laughter. For some reason this strikes me as hilarious, the best joke I’ve ever heard, even. “Obviously!” If you’ve never died, it must seem reasonable to assume someone could be mistaken about it! But no, she has no idea, and she has absolutely no idea how much she has no idea! I wheeze hysterically, and I wonder if it’s possible to die from laughing too much, whether I might give her another demonstration right here and now!
“I did. I did.” The laughter subsides enough to speak. “I promise, when your soul leaves your body, it’s hard to pretend you’re just taking a nap. When you feel the embrace of a Goddess, when She cradles the core of your whole existence and brings you back, safe and whole, it’s quite different from bandages and reparation magic!”
“Princess Natalia resurrected you? Truly?”
“A bit more than just a princess now, isn’t She?” Come on, I can squash down my giggling while praising Her, right? “But yes, the Goddess resurrected me. She loves me, and I am blessed.”
“Love.” The sorceress in chains sneers. “At last. Now comes to light the real reason for your freedom. I bet the two of you were fucking,” she emphasizes the crudeness of the word, “while poor Sir Wolfgang dutifully followed behind, pining for a lady who was already spreading her legs for some rancid street rat who no doubt could barely even concentrate on her royal cunt, too busy salivating over her family’s wealth.”
Nope, no stifling this one. I double over in another fit of laughter. Was she really trying to upset me by talking about my Goddess and my friend like that?
“Please,” I gasp, “go on.”
With a scowl, Velle remains silent.
“It’s a good start! I think you could really lean hard into the cuckoldry thing. Oh, maybe the Goddess (in Her mortal aspect as the Princess) was betrothed to the Knight before Her ascension. Maybe She really loved him too, in that romantic way, but was determined to wait until the wedding to consummate their love. He understood, and he admired such acts of purity even though his carnal desires cried out for release. Now enter the dashing Rogue, a scoundrel whose peculiar services were needed to get them out of a trap laid by their fiendish enemy (that’s you, naturally)…”
Velle groans. I continue. “The trio escapes! Now, the Rogue plans to rob the two of them before leaving, but the Princess finds Herself strangely captivated by this stranger, whose charm and wit possess a certain irresistible allure. She begs me—the Rogue I mean—to join them on their journey to save the land from certain destruction. Our Rogue claims to be moved by such arguments, but in truth recognizes an opportunity in the blushing glances She sneaks.
“Now the Princess is determined to remain pure for Her betrothed, but oh! How the dashing Rogue’s shirt leaves such a tantalizing swath of unclothed chest open and visible! And the Knight sees how She steals such scandalous glances when the Rogue leans forward in a bow, how hard She blushes at a sly wink, how She laughs at some honestly kind of half-assed puns.”
“How much longer is this going to go on?”
“Not a fan of slow burns? I wasn’t planning to have any bodice ripping for a while yet, but I think if you stick around for a few more chapters we can really get to the juicy part where the Knight finds himself torn between his jealousy and the slow, creeping realization that he’s also falling for the Rogue. There’s a really good moment when the Princess tells the Rogue ‘you’d look so beautiful with painted lips,’ and the Knight stumbles into the scene. He’s taken aback by the gentleness with which the Princess decorates the Rogue’s features, his face scarlet and, for a moment, unable to hide his desire. As he looks at the two of them, the princess in Her underclothes and the Rogue in rouge, it’s unclear what exactly he yearns for, but not even he can deny how he yearns.”
“Are you sent here to torture me then, is that it? I am a gift to you, that you may do with your murderer as you wish?”
I sigh and drop the bit. “No, I’m sure you’re here because She loves you too.”
“A funny sort of love,” Velle says, tugging her chain for emphasis.
“I have faith that if you embraced Her as your Goddess as I have, you would be freed.” I offer a genuine smile. “Sure, it’s especially easy for me to love She Who Saved Me, but if you can learn to love Her as I do, you’ll see that you’re already home. And like me you’d never need to fear death again.”
The other guest spits, hitting me directly in the eye. “Well look at you, getting a wink from the dashing Rogue yourself,” I say with a chuckle, wiping sorcerous saliva from my eyelid. Impressive aim, really. On an impulse, I lick my hand clean, maintaining eye contact as I do so. “If you want some bodice ripping of your own, just say so. But maybe let’s keep this a slow burn of our own, okay?” With a charming grin and a wave of my hand, I turn and walk away.
Maybe Velle’s right, though. Maybe she is a gift of sorts. What could be greater than helping guide a lost soul such as her to the warm embrace of the Goddess? I’ll visit her again the next chance I get.

Order of Attack (part 5)
You know the drill. Here first, AO3 after I do more proofreading.
Fuuta finally gets to speak. Well, I imagine it's very difficult and painful when he still has the partial thorax fracture on top of all of Mahiru's canon injuries. (I was not going to commute that to Amane. That's where I draw the line with her.)
In this chapter, all the forgiven prisoners (except Kotoko) visit him. I was going to get everyone, but this chapter got so long that I split it in half. Hooray, this fic just keeps growing.
Ooh, I'm such a bad girl. I wrote "hell". I know Fuuta doesn't really swear in the T2 voice drama, but- eh.
I guess the main thing of concern is that Fuuta repeatedly asks Shidou for an unsafe dose of painkillers in the beginning, which Shidou refuses. How do I tag that?
No Amane here. Sorry, that got pushed back in the chapter split.
----
"No, I cannot give you any more painkillers. You are already at the maximum dosage."
"I don’t give a-" Fuuta’s complaint died to a pinch in his lungs. He tried glaring at Shidou instead, but he felt his eyes incapable of showing any emotion past the pain.
"More painkillers will not help you any further. They would be very harmful, in fact."
"Like you care about…" As Fuuta tried to force the words out, Shidou looked back with a stone-cold face. "…my brain is f… …because you…" So many words tried to escape, only for his ribs to stab them all. "…left me bleeding… why… bother… saving…"
Through the whole strained spiel, Shidou stood there quietly. Once Fuuta had been silent for several seconds, Shidou spoke up.
"I'm sorry I sent Kazui out while I was tending to Amane. I-"
"That's not…"
Shidou paused. "Or is this because I kept it from you?"
"Mmhmm."
"Kajiyama-kun, I'm sorry I didn't tell you. I'm sorry I let you find out through Shiina-kun. I failed you, and I should have told you as such from the beginning."
Fuuta stared back. After several minutes, Shidou took a seat. Fuuta stared at the ceiling as the pain continued to bite.
"Hey," Fuuta whispered. "Get me more-"
"No."
-
Fuuta woke up to the creaking of the cell door. He turned his gaze to the side and saw the silhouette of Shidou resting in the chair in the corner.
The lights turned on, revealing Haruka and Muu's faces.
Haruka walked over to Fuuta's bedside. "H-hi… Fuuta-kun."
"What… are you…" Fuuta rasped.
"I-I was worried about you."
"You're not… Now that she…"
"Um, Muu-san-"
"You two… always together…"
Muu spoke up. "Are you angry at us, Fuuta-kun?"
"Like hell… I…" he managed to say strongly enough for Haruka to recoil.
"S-sorry, Fuuta-kun-"
"Haruka-kun, you don't need to apologize to him. He's just-"
"Some nerve… you two… coming here…"
"Let's go, Haruka-kun."
"But he-he's talking to us."
"…just had to go… who-knows-where… when I…"
"This visit isn't accomplishing anything. Fuuta-kun is just looking for someone to blame. It's not our fault we weren't in our cells during the attack."
Haruka turned his head back towards Fuuta as Muu led him to the door.
"I really am sorry, Fuuta-kun!"
Then Muu turned the lights off as they exited.
-
The next time Fuuta woke up, Kazui was sitting at his bedside.
"Kajiyama-kun."
"What do you… want… old man…"
"Shidou-san needed an extra set of eyes while he rests."
"Thought you were… with Amane…"
"Kashiki-chan and Shiina-chan are with her."
They sat in silence for several minutes before Fuuta spoke up again.
"Why did you… leave me to get…"
"To get Kashiki-chan and Shiina-chan? Shidou-kun said he needed more hands."
"You couldn't take five f… minutes to keep…"
"Yuzuriha-chan was out and about. We couldn't risk getting another patient."
"So I'm… disposable, huh?"
"No, that's not-"
"Get out. Leave me… again…"
"I'm afraid I can't do that while Shidou-kun is asleep."
"Make this pain… stop…"
"I really wish I could, but I can't."
-
"Hey, hey, Fuuta." Yuno hovered over him, and his eyes snapped open.
"Geez, you scared…"
"It's okay. Don't force it."
"Why would you…"
"I could tell you weren't asleep. I thought you could use some company while Shidou-san is resting."
"Like hell-"
"You know it's dangerous to leave a patient alone. I had a few words with Haruka and Muu when I found that they left while Shidou-san was asleep."
"What does that even-"
"Besides, some good conversation keeps the voices at bay. Though they've mostly subsided by now."
Fuuta was inclined to agree, only because the pain had gotten more intense.
"Why the h… you care?"
"Because nobody else takes the voices seriously. Not that I can say anything about the physical pain, but who am I to sit by when I know others are facing psychological torment?"
"Shut up."
"Excuse me?"
"You… pretend to care…"
"You think this is all an act?"
"You weren't there when…"
"I told you, Mahiru-san came to me that day. I wasn't going to turn her down."
"…could've stayed in…"
"Look, I'm sorry I wasn't nearby when you were attacked, but I couldn't have known that Kotoko-san was going to attack you that day. Mahiru-san wanted the comfort of her own cell, and I had no reason to object. You can't blame me for things that were out of my control."
"Then don't pity me!" For once, Fuuta managed to make the tone he meant.
"Fuuta, the only one pitying you is yourself." Yuno got up as Fuuta stared back and Shidou began to stir. She looked to the side to see that Shidou was really awake.
"I'm done here," Yuno said, heading for the door.
The only one pitying myself? Fuuta thought. That isn't true.

A simple thank you escaped his lips as she mentioned the spare room, a stark reminder of how empty it had been when they first bought the house. He never imagined he'd be the first to use it—the irony wasn’t lost on him. He could almost find the humor in it if he thought about it long enough.
As he stepped outside to retrieve his luggage, the world greeted him with a sharp contrast—the trunk of the car creaked open, revealing the worn bags that held the remnants of his life. He looked up, and there it was, that white circle of sunlight, almost blinding against the sky, yet it did nothing to diminish the coolness of the breeze that whispered against his skin. For a moment, he felt a fleeting sense of peace, an unfamiliar contentment in the midst of all the change. Maybe, just maybe, things would be okay for now.
The stairway stretched upward in a gentle curve, narrow and intimate, as if guiding him through a quiet, forgotten part of the world. Above, a pendant light hung delicately from the ceiling. Each step he took released a soft groan from the old mahogany beneath his feet, a sound both comforting and nostalgic. The wood, though polished to a subtle sheen, bore the marks of countless footsteps—worn patches where time had left its imprint. These imperfections, far from detracting from the house’s beauty, only deepened its character, like wrinkles on an old face that has seen too much and forgotten nothing.
At the top, the landing split into two doors—one leading to the spare room, another to her bedroom, or what had once been their shared sanctuary. The door to her bedroom was slightly ajar, a crack wide enough to reveal the soft shadows within. He felt a deep, almost primal urge to push it open, to step inside and reclaim the space that once was theirs. Yet, he knew how wrong that was. He lingered there, his gaze heavy with unspoken longing, before finally turning away and heading to the spare room.
Tumblr media
The spare room was smaller, simpler, a place that had always seemed to wait for someone who never arrived. He left one piece of luggage on the floor, its worn leather sagging slightly from the years it had traveled with him. The other he placed onto the bed with a controlled firmness. The quilt was immaculately kept, the faint scent of lavender lingering in the air. Everything in the room was pristine, almost too pristine, as if she had tried to erase the passage of time, to make it welcoming. With a swift, practiced motion, he unlatched the suitcase, revealing a haphazard mix of clothes. Buried beneath the layers of fabric were his guns, polished and well-maintained. These weren’t just weapons; in a way they were like reminders. Each gun had a story, a history forged in the heat of battle and the cold calculations of survival. The oldest among them had been with him since the war, a standard-issue revolver that had seen him through the blood and mud of countless battles. Its grip was worn, the metal tarnished from years of use, but it still held a certain reliability. Another had come into his possession long after the war, during the early days of trying to adapt to civilian life. He’d taken up hunting, in the quiet woodlands. The rifle, with its polished wood stock and sleek barrel, was a gift from a fellow veteran who believed in the therapeutic value of stalking deer through the underbrush. He had accepted it with a nod. The last was a newer acquisition, picked up from a small, unremarkable shop in a village far from where he now stood. The man who sold it to him had the look of someone who had lost everything, his eyes dull and voice flat as he described the gun’s make and model. Frank hadn’t asked any questions; he’d simply handed over the money and walked out with the weapon, sensing that it might serve a purpose one day.
He stared at them for a moment, a flicker of disbelief crossing his mind. Before the war, guns had been nothing more than abstract objects, something distant and almost irrelevant in his world. He had never owned one, never felt the need to. The idea of handling a firearm, let alone keeping a collection of them, would have seemed absurd to the man he once was. But now, here he was, discarding his clothes carelessly and gravitating toward the guns as soon as he got home, as if they were the only things that could anchor him to the present. It was a strange, almost surreal shift. He had brought them here, to this house, not out of paranoia but out of a need for control, for protection. In his mind, the most important rooms of the house—hers, theirs—deserved to be guarded, as if the presence of these silent sentinels could somehow preserve what little was left of a world he once knew.
He unwrapped one of the guns, feeling the familiar weight of it in his hand, the cool metal a stark contrast to the warmth of the room. For a moment, he considered where to place it, where it would be most effective, most protective. He left one on the bed, then made his way toward her room. He hesitated at the door, his hand hovering over the handle as a wave of uncertainty washed over him. From downstairs, he could hear the faint clinking of dishes in the kitchen, a subtle reminder of her presence as he wrestled with the unease that had taken hold of him. He took a few hesitant steps inside. The bedroom was just as he remembered—familiar, yet somehow distant. His intent was simple: to place the gun in the drawer of her bedside table. But as he approached it, his eyes lingered on the items arranged on the surface. He couldn’t help himself, curiosity tugging at him to look a little closer, to see what had changed, what had stayed the same. He remembered the cream-white telephone with gold intricate details that used to sit on her bedside table, always within reach, and the silver-framed photo of their wedding day. Now, both were gone, replaced by a simple vase of flowers, their petals starting to wilt. This felt logical, even normal. The first time he reentered the house, he noticed that all traces of their life together had vanished from the walls, every photograph carefully removed. Still, a pang hit his chest each time he crossed the threshold, it was now inevitable it would resurface every once in a while whenever he found himself in these familiar rooms. With a heavy breath, he opened the drawer of her bedside table. Inside, he found a small collection of items: neatly folded handkerchiefs, a leather-bound journal, a compact mirror with its surface slightly tarnished, and a few letters. He carefully placed one of the guns inside, its cold metal juxtaposed against the warmth of the drawer’s contents. As he adjusted the items, his fingers brushed against something familiar. He came across a photograph of himself, tucked beneath the others as if hidden away for safekeeping. He frowned slightly, lifting it to the light, inspecting it as though he were seeing it for the first time. The face staring back at him was almost unrecognizable—there was a youthfulness in the eyes, a vitality that felt distant now. It struck him how a few years could reshape a man, could carve away at the person he once was. He wondered how long it had been since she’d kept this—if she’d forgotten about it, leaving it there to gather dust in the quiet corners of her life. The cynical part of him believed that. But another part, quieter and more hopeful, knew she still cared for him. To what extent, he wasn’t sure.
With another deep breath, he let the photograph go, placing it gently back where he found it. His gaze wandered around the room, eventually settling on the closet. He hesitated for a moment, torn between giving in to his curiosity or respecting the boundaries of the space. Before he could settle on a choice, his body moved almost of its own volition, guided by an unspoken need. It was too late now anyway, he knew his curiosity somehow always got the better of him. The closet door creaked open, and he found himself drawn to its depths. He glanced upwards at the top shelf, his eyes skimming over some boxes and forgotten trinkets, before shifting his attention to the cascade of dresses hanging below. His eyes were drawn to a blue dress that had been a favorite of hers, worn often during the last summer they had shared together. He pushed the clothes aside, parting them in the middle to reveal what lay beneath the hanging garments. The array of dresses, some long and flowing, had concealed the bottom part of the closet. As he moved the clothing aside, the hidden space slowly came into view. There was nothing of particular interest beneath the dresses—just the usual assortment of items stored out of sight.
But the sight of the blue dress now stirred a profound ache in his chest. He reached out and took it into his hands. As the fabric brushed against him, he was enveloped by the faint scent of her perfume—subtle yet intoxicating. It was as though the very essence of her lingered within the threads of the dress. Holding it close, he inhaled deeply, the sweet yet faintly fresh scent enveloping him in a strangely satisfying, albeit disconcerting embrace. What was he doing, acting as if he were mourning someone with whom he had just shared breakfast with?; What would she think if she saw him? the sensation felt almost surreal. This might be the closest he could come to her again, he thought to himself, and grappled with the possibility that he might never fully accept this reality.
Esther's fingers brushed the table as she rose, gathering the crumbs left behind.
“Well, there’s plenty more where they came from.” She replied, the small smile that played at the corners of her lips fading ever so slightly. She’d been watching him, noting how he resisted even the slightest bite to eat, as if every morsel was a burden to him. She’d always admired his resilience, the way he’d always find strength no matter what life had thrown his way, but in that moment she realised just how much the war had scarred him.
"There's no rush, you know." She said softly, her voice carrying a warmth she hoped would ease his discomfort. She glanced toward the hallway, her thoughts shifting to the spare room she’d prepared for him upstairs. It’d been a while since anyone had stayed there. She’d tidied it thoroughly, wanting him to feel as comfortable as possible. But deep down there was a hesitation in her heart, a fear that he might feel like an intruder in a place that was once so familiar to him. "But I'll leave you to get settled in the spare room." She began, her voice faltering slightly as she watched her words. "It's all ready for you, and if there’s anything else you need just let me know."
She turned back to face him, her eyes searching his for any sign of how he was feeling. She knew this must have been just as difficult for him as it was for her, if not more so. The house, with all its memories, was a reminder of a life they once shared, a life that now seemed so distant.

"I miss you"
Nia could admit that it was a text she knew shouldn't have been sent and for a split second, she wished to take it back but...
"Come see me"
In minutes she found herself on the deserted roads at 2:36 in the morning, headed to the last place she should be like the fool she has always been when it came to him.
It always happened this way.
They'd argue, break up and end up back together as if nothing happened.
It had become a routine, one that she was slowly getting tired of.
But it was difficult for her to break away from the one person who knew her better than she knew herself.
If she wasn't so afraid of being alone, she would've been broken free but somehow her mind had convinced itself that she needed him.
For three years they played this cruel game. The trust they once had for one another almost cease to exist. Yet, the love they shared seemed unscathed.
Even when they attempted to date other people, somehow, someway, they always ended up back together. The word "sorry" no longer existed in their vocabulary. There were only so many times it could be said until its purpose became tainted.
In a way, she was positive they liked hurting one another. A sick way to show they still cared.
Two months have passed since she last saw him and she was doing so well without him. Or so she forced herself to believe. Her weakest moments always seemed to attack her thoughts late at night as she lay in bed alone.
She shouldn't miss him.
Life was much better without his presence.
But every time her eyes closed, her mind was filled with thoughts of him no matter how hard she tried to forget him.
She was addicted to everything that was him and he knew it.
He thrived off the fact that no matter how many times she yelled out "fuck you", she'd always come back to him where she belonged.
In his twisted mind, no one would ever love her in the way he does.
Touch her as he does.
Kiss her as he does.
Hold her as he does.
And more importantly, make love to her as he does.
Just the thought of him shook her mentally.
God, she hated him so much.
Licking her lips, Nia stood quietly outside of his apartment door, silently telling herself to just turn on her heel and go back home where she needed to be.
But she'd be lying to herself if she didn't say that she missed him because she did.
However, it wasn't as if she needed him like the oxygen she breathed.
And just as she was about to walk away, the sounds of locks coming undone caught her attention, pulling her from her intense thoughts.
"Shit," She whispered to herself as the door swung open to reveal him in all of his toxicity. Nia noted how his hair had grown longer with his bangs hanging just below his eyebrows. He stood in front of her with an unbuttoned satin shirt showcasing his chest and a pair of matching pants. A mean mug immediately spread across her face as she ignored her rapidly beating heart.
He knew exactly what the hell he was doing.
"Why did you call me here I.M?" It was a question that she already knew the answer to but the need to break the silence between them was necessary.
The way he looked at her...it was as if he saw right through her.
A small smile formed on his face as he eyed her slowly from head to toe and back up again before his dark eyes settled on her own. "The same reason why you decided to come...because I wanted to. Now come in," He answered, stepping aside to let her in.
Shaking her head, Nia did as he said while he locked the door behind her. She stood quietly in the middle of his dark hallway that had the kitchen on one side and his living room on the other, his scent filling her nose no matter which way her head turned.
"Keep walking," Changkyun softly ordered, his warm breath fanned against her ear causing a shiver to go down her spine.
Biting her tongue, she removed her slippers and walked further down the hall towards his dimly lit bedroom where the door was left slightly open. Nia felt Changkyun's arm brush past hers to push the door completely open to reveal his cozy room.
"What have I told you about coming out in public dressed like this?" He questioned lowly, tugging at the bottom of the white romper onesie that fitted snuggly against her skin. It was obvious she wore nothing underneath.
"I wasn't about to change just to come see you, besides..."
"Besides what?"
Nia felt so small under his gaze as he stood in front of her with his arm crossed. "I won't be here for long," She informs him, turning her attention towards the hard rain hitting against the glass above them.
Changkyun smirked at her words knowing full well they were a lie. "Why won't you just be with me Nia? Every time you run you always come back to me in the end,"
"You know exactly why," Nia instantly replies. It was a question that was asked by him often and the answer never changed. "What do you even want from me? You have so many options,"
"I want you to be my wife Nia. No one else compares to you and you know this," He counters back with swiftness. "No more games. No more lies,"
Nia stared back at him, looking for any indication of dishonesty. "I don't know I.M...I need time to think,"
As much as she wanted to believe his words, it was hard. She was so fuck'd up mentally because of him.
"Why do you do this to me?" She questions just above a whisper, hating how weak she was when it came to him. All it took was one look and he had her right where he wanted. She was his and no one else.
"Take it off," He commands, ignoring her question on purpose. "Please..."
Maybe it was because of how tempting Changkyun looked at the moment. Pure sex on legs. Or the way he spoke to her, demanding yet sweet. It took little to nothing to get her to do whatever he asked of her.
She was so pathetic.
However, Nia didn't care. Especially when he slid inside of her, hitting every spot, including the ones she didn't even know she had.
Only he could make her body shake with need. Giving her the type of dick that made her call out to the heavens above in bliss. Even to the point tears would run down her face in disbelief.
He fucked her as if it would be their last, leaving nothing untouched.
Nia found herself bent over with her ass in the air just how Changkyun liked it. Her hands gripping the sheets as he delivered toe-curling strokes after another, driving her insane. "You feel so good," She whined, feeling him places kisses along her back.
Changkyun said nothing at first, only responding by practically fucking Nia like his life depended on it. Rolling his hips every time in a way that had Nia wither with need. Her pussy welcomed him each time he filled her with such need.
"Say it,"
"It's yours," Nia barely croaked out, knowing what he wanted. "It's all yours," She said again, reaching back to push him away. The pressure in her gut became too much.
"I can feel it...just a little bit more. You can handle it,"

A Single Pale Phantom
Prompt: The problem with constantly transforming in public is that sometimes you get seen. So who has seen Danny change and what are they going to do about it? (PR204) by @kinglazrus

i am back on my dash danny reveal bullshit
Dash closes his locker and starts heading down the hallway. It was finally the end of another super boring day at school. Now, he could spend the rest of the day doing super boring homework. This is the epitome of life right here.
He pushes the doors of the front of the school open and walks out of the building when he hears a ruckus across the street. Ectoblasts are being shot and crashing could be heard as two ghosts tussled it out. As the big ghost stood up and started running away, Dash could see Phantom flying after it down the street.
Dash’s face split into a grin and he started chasing after Phantom. It was his hero! He’s been trying for so long to get Phantom’s attention and hang out, but Phantom’s always gone or he comes up with some excuse before Dash can even get any words out. Maybe today will be his lucky day!
“Phantom! Hey!” Dash shouts down the street.
Phantom keeps going, not hearing Dash’s shouts. He gives the ghost one final blow and pulls it into the thermos before flying away again. Dash keeps following him and turns around another corner before he sees Phantom fly into an alleyway between two buildings. Dash walks in behind him and is about to call his name when he sees a bright flash of light.
Suddenly, Danny Fenton is standing in Phantom’s place. He runs out of the other end of the alleyway and down the street.
Dash stands in place, mind racing. He knows what he just saw. It should be impossible. Fenton couldn’t have just magically appeared, he was nowhere to be seen this whole time Dash had been following Phantom. It wouldn't make any sense.
But all the absences, the tardies, and sudden excuses of why Fenton needed to leave the classroom. Everytime one of these happened, Phantom was always nearby. Sure, students had noticed it. But everyone thought he was just helping Phantom out. Or that he was afraid of the ghosts and had stolen one of his parents' inventions and always knew when one was going to show up. The only one who had ever connected the dots was Wes.
Dash started walking home, his mind still racing.
What should he do? Should he tell Danny that he just discovered what was probably his biggest secret? Should he tell one of his friends and ask them what they thought he should do?
Dash shook his head. If Danny knew he knew he’d probably never trust him, not that he’s ever earned it, but he’d probably think Dash would become another Weston. And if he told his friends there’s no doubt it’d get to Paulina and she’d ring it through the rumor mill as hard as she could.
No. He shouldn’t tell anyone.
But then again, this is such an important secret. Wouldn’t Danny want to know that someone has figured it out?
Sticking his hands in his pockets, Dash walks down the street as it began to rain, stewing over what felt like the biggest secret in the world.

A couple days later, Dash is headed to the Nasty Burger to get some grub to eat when he sees Fenton and his parents. His parents are standing there with large, bazooka looking ghost hunting weapons. His dad and the gun are both looking up at the sky, eyes darting around looking for any sign of whatever ghost they were chasing, the barrel of the gun still smoking. Danny is standing next to them , looking miserable and covered in green goo.
When Dash looks closer, he can see that Danny is itching at a spot on his skin that the green goo is touching. Underneath it the skin is turning red. An unsettling feeling worms its way into his stomach and he quickens his pace without thinking.
“These blasted ghosts! They’re all such terrible creatures!” Danny’s dad bellows into the sky.
“Imagine when we finally get our hands on him, Jack! All the experiments and dissection we could perform! It’ll be a scientific breakthrough!” Danny’s mom shouts with enthusiasm.
Dash is horrified. He knew Danny’s parents were ghost hunters, and so they in turn hunted Phantom, but he had never thought of the implications of what that actually meant. What would happen if they actually got their hands on him. Dash just about starts running towards them.
“Hey, Danny.” Dash says, a little out of breath.
Danny just gives him this look and Dash starts scrambling for some sort of excuse.
“Hey, uh, I just remembered that we have that project we have to work on together. Do you want to work on it at the Nasty Burger with me? I was just heading there. My treat.”
Danny is still giving Dash this: what are you going on about? look.
“Dash, I don’t think we have any-” Danny starts, but he stops when he sees Dash pointedly looking and nodding in the direction of his parents. “Oh. OH. THAT project. I remember now. Sure. Let’s go to the Nasty Burger.”
When Danny’s parents give him a mushy goodbye, he waves them off and Dash and Danny start heading in the direction of the Nasty Burger. They walk for a bit in silence before Danny decides to call Dash out on it.
“So what gives?” He asks. “Why’d you do that? It’s not like it was your problem or anything.”
Dash starts scrambling for an excuse. It’s not like he could just tell Danny right here and now that he knew his secret. Knew that the goo that he was currently wearing was burning away at his skin.
“Oh, uh.” Dash starts. “They just seemed so oblivious to the fact that you seemed to be having an allergic reaction to whatever is in that goo stuff. Yeah. I figured I’d get you out of there so that you could get cleaned up.”
Danny raises an eyebrow at him, a skeptical look on his face.
“Why do you care so much?” Danny asks. “You’ve been so nice to me lately, not that I’m complaining, but it’s really unusual. So what gives?”
“”Uh.” Dash rubs at the back of his neck. “Well. You see. I had a realization the other day and, consequently, realized that what I was doing may or may not have been bad. And so I’m trying to change for the better. Or grow up. Choose your pick.”
Danny snorts. “Okay. Right. Well, I hope you actually plan on buying me some food because you won’t be getting rid of me until you do.”
Shaking his head, Dash replies. “Sure, but let’s get you cleaned up first.”
QQQQQ
Two weeks go by since Dash got Danny out of that sticky situation, and he wasn’t sure that he could call them friends yet, but ever since then they’ve been talking a lot more. He thinks they were at least getting there.
He was walking home from yet another boring day at school when he heard some fighting down the street he was walking past. Turning his head, he sees Danny fighting another ghost while also being shot at by his parents. So far it seems like Danny’s been doing okay at dodging his parents attacks while trying to subdue the other ghost. He finally pulls it into the thermos and he was standing still long enough for his parents to finally get a shot in on his lower back.
Danny starts falling out of the sky and a pit forms in his stomach. Dash starts running towards Danny and his parents, pulling his hood up over his head and face. As he got closer, he could hear Danny’s parents yelling at him, almost cackling as they celebrated their victory, shouting about how they would finally get to dissect him, and how they were going to do it. Dash was horrified.
Dash barrels right between them, scooping Danny up the best he could without slowing down too much. As he runs away, he can hear the Fenton’s shouting behind him, their weapons charging up as they command him to stop. In his arms he can feel Danny grimacing.
He opens one eye to look up at him.
“Dash?”
He opens his mouth to reply when he hears one of the guns go off behind him.
“Jesus christ!” Dash shouts, narrowly missing the shot as he turns down another street and quickly ducks into an alley. It’s no use though, the Fenton’s are still hot on their trail.
A bright white ring appears around Danny’s waist but it looks like he wills it away with great concentration, looking exhausted once it’s gone. Dash turns into another alleyway when it happens again and he realizes what it is.
Dash ducks down a little and whispers.
“Transform.”
Danny looks up at him, eyes wide in panic. “What do you mean?” He asked, his voice rushed.
“You need to transform back.”
“I- I don’t know what you’re talking about. What would I be transforming to?” Danny asks, feigning ignorance.
“Danny-”
Another shot fires as Dash runs down the street and he nearly trips over his feet to dodge it. He knocks over a couple of trash cans behind him to hopefully put some kind of distance between them and he hears Danny’s dad trip and fall over them, his mom stopping to help him up.
“I can’t keep running forever.” Dash says. “You need to transform so we can send your parents on a wild goose chase.”
Danny’s eyes open wide at that and they turn into their final alley, a dead end.
Dash watches as a battle plays over Danny’s face for a few moments before he makes a decision and he summons those white rings and detransforms. Danny jumps out of Dash’s arms and winces and before Dash can grab him again, Danny is pushing down his hood, tucking it out of sight, and pulling him into a kiss.
Dash’s eyes open wide and his mind is whirling. What’s happening? Dash doesn’t know if he’s supposed to kiss Danny back or not, but before he could do anything he hears the sound of weapons charging up behind him and Danny’s parents shouting.
“Put your hands up!”
Dash jumps and pulls away, Danny following suit, hand still on his arm to support himself.
“Mom! Dad!” Danny shouts.
At the sight of their son, the Fenton’s lose all hostility.
“Oh ho ho, who is this Dannyboy? We didn’t know you had a boyfriend.” Jack says, looking like he’s about to start doting on Dash when Danny waves him away.
“Uh. This is Dash.” Danny says. “Jazz has tutored him before. You guys have actually met a couple times. He went to those ghostkateer meetings.”
Dash gives him a quizzical look. He never went to any ghostkateer thing.
“Oh! That’s right!” His mom exclaims. “If we had known you two were dating we would have invited you to dinner! Would you want to come over tonight for-”
“Mom!” Danny shouts, embarrassed. “Weren’t you guys doing something a moment ago? You looked like you were chasing after something.”
Like a switch was flipped, Dash watches as they slip back into their previous mindset.
“We were just about to capture Phantom when some punky jock came by and stole our prize!” Jack shouted. He narrowed his eyes and looked at Dash. “That wasn’t you, was it?”
Dash vigorously shook his head.
“Nope! Not Dash!” Danny shouted. “He’s been here with me the whole time. But we did see a different jock run by down the street. Maybe it was them?”
“Right! Of course! Thanks, son!” Jack runs off and Maddie follows after him after giving Danny a kiss on the cheek. Danny rubs it off as they watch them run away and then they were alone.
Dash’s face felt red and he looked at Danny who was still holding onto his arm. When Danny meets his gaze, a blush appears on his own face, and he lets go of Dash’s arm before wincing and grabbing back onto him again.
“Okay, uh.” Dash licks his lips. “What was that?”
“What?” Danny looks up at him and sees the expression on his face. “Oh. That was a fakeout makeout.”
Dash doesn’t move, stunned.
“What, you’ve never heard of a fakeout makeout before?”
Dash shakes his head, his mind still swimming over the feel of Danny’s lips on his.
Danny chuckles and starts walking, pulling Dash forward a little bit. “Come on, we gotta see what this burn looks like and treat it. And you’re going to tell me how you discovered my secret.”
Dash nodded, still lost in thought over what just happened, as Danny pulled him down the street.

Dr. Spencer Reid x Reader
Words: 3843
Summary: A killer leaves Reid’s girlfriend on the steps of the BAU with a message for Hotchner and the team. Spencer’s judgement is clouded and it seems that the killer isn’t finished with you.
Notes: This is a dark one guys, so please be wary of that. I wanted to do an imagine that kinda felt like a case, but also had the reader involved and everything. This is another one that I needed to split into two parts because I got a little carried away (whoops). As always, please let me know what you think!
Warnings: Trauma, gore, assault, mentions of rape and sexual assault.

-
It was late. Later than anyone should have still been at the office and yet J.J. sat in front of a pile of files on her desk. Of course, Hotch was in his office too, both having already tried to convince the other to go home. Feeling like the piles would never end, J.J.’s attention shifted from a case to the flicker of movement just outside her door. At first, the figure standing by Spence’s desk startled her, but she quickly realized that it was you.
“Y/N?” She smiled to greet you, though her confusion was clear.
“Agent Jareau, I didn’t know you’d be here.” It was dark, so she couldn’t quite see how strained your smile really was.
“Please, call me J.J.” She said lightly. Ever since you’d started seeing Dr. Reid, she liked to think the two of you had become friends. You liked to think that too, which was why you had hoped she wouldn’t be here. “Spence went home a couple of hours ago.”
“Is SSA Hotchner here?” You blurted. You didn’t have much longer. Her brows furrowed.
“Um, yeah. He basically lives here, unfortunately.” She couldn’t get another word in before you rushed past her towards Hotch’s office. It wasn’t until then that she saw how pale you looked.
It took every ounce of strength you had not to stumble as you walked. You kept your coat closed, partially out of embarrassment and partially because you were afraid that, even now, he was watching. Hotchner was working at his desk, just like he’d predicted. You had to knock to get him to look up.
“Agent Hotchner?”
“Dr. Y/L/N,” He set down the notes he was looking over and stared at you with surprise. “What can I help you with?”
“I know it’s late, but he told me I had to find you.” You leaned against one of his chairs for support.
“Reid sent you here?”
“No. Spencer doesn’t know I’m here. He doesn’t know anything.” You winced at the thought. Spencer had no idea. He was probably worried out of his mind. You were supposed to be at his place watching a movie. Everything had changed in the span of one evening.
You felt something drip off of the tip of your finger. Hotchner’s eyes followed the dark liquid until it splattered on his carpet.
“Y/N are you okay?” Hotch stood up, noticing the way you seemed to sway slightly.
“He said I had to come here. If I didn’t, he said that whatever he did next would be my fault. He said he has a message for you.”
“Y/N, who said this?”
“I didn’t know what else to do.” You undid the button keeping your coat closed. It was getting harder to speak. “He said that this is for you. For all of you.”
You let your coat fall off of your shoulders, revealing your bloody chest and arms. Hotch lunged towards you as you collapsed, finally succumbing to your injuries.
“J.J. get an ambulance here now!” He screamed, desperately trying to catch you before you hit the ground. The blonde appeared in the doorway to see what was going on.
“Oh my god.” She gasped, rushing to the nearest phone.
Hotch’s stomach dropped, taking a closer look at the bloody gashes on your chest. Each slash was deliberately carved into the flesh, forming two words; Notice Me.
“J.J.!” He called out again. She rushed back into the room.
“The paramedics are on their way.”
Hotchner’s panicked face looked up at her.
“Call the team.”
“Y-yes sir.” Her eyes widened, taking in the entirety of your wounds. Hotch’s jaw clenched.
“And J.J.”
“Sir?”
“Let me call Reid.”
-
He checked his watch for the hundredth time and blew out a long breath. On the table in front of him sat the box. The box. The box that had the potential to change absolutely everything. And you weren’t here to open it. He looked at his phone for missed messages, but the last text still read ‘On my way. See you soon.’
Spencer nearly jumped out of his chair when his phone suddenly started to ring. He felt his body tense when he saw the number.
“Hotch?” He answered. Part of him already knew.
“Reid…” Hotch sighed. “Spencer, you need to get down to the hospital.” Reid closed his eyes, hoping that he was wrong.
“It’s her, isn’t it?”
“Something’s happened.”
“I should have known. I should have looked for her. She’s never late, Hotch. Ever. She’s actually early for pretty much everything. I should have had Garcia track her phone or have her-” In his ranting, he forgot to breathe.
“Reid, I need you to calm down.” Hotchner instructed. He listened to Spencer take a few deep breaths.
“Is she…”
“The doctor said that she’s lost a lot of blood, but she’s going to be okay.” He paused, making Spencer even more panicked. “Unfortunately, that’s not all we have to worry about. I’ll be able to explain more when you get here. The team is on their way.”
“Wait, the team is coming?” The turning in his stomach got worse. There’s only one reason Hotch would have called in the team.
“Like I said, I’ll explain when you get here.”
“Hotch-”
“I’ll see you soon.” Hotch wanted to be supportive, but they were on a time crunch now. This message meant there would be more bodies and soon.
It took a moment for Spencer to make his feet move. Once he did, he was running. Before he knew it, he was already outside and what he saw made him stop in his tracks. Parked in front of him was your car. Five feet and you would have been inside.
-
Morgan was the first to meet him. Normally, Spencer would have found his presence comforting, but he knew that he wasn’t just here for support. Hotchner called the team in for a reason. By the look on his face, Morgan already had an idea.
“What happened?” Reid demanded, trying to look over his shoulder. He tried to push passed him, but Morgan held him in place.
“We don’t know a lot. But Reid, you’re going to want to prepare yourself.”
“I don’t need a pep talk, I need to see Y/N.” His attempts to dodge around him were unsuccessful.
“He carved a message into her chest with a knife, Reid.” Morgan sighed. Spencer stopped.
“What?”
“Come on, Hotch can tell you more than I can.” He led Reid back to a waiting area where a few other members of the team had gathered. Rossi was still on his way, and so was Prentiss., but Garcia, J.J., and Hotch were grouped together in the far corner. Garcia and J.J. were looking at something on her computer while Hotch sat with his eyes closed.
He was trying to remember every last detail from when you walked in to when you collapsed. He knew something was wrong and he should have acted sooner. He analyzed every single word that you said, trying to piece everything together.
“He said that this is for you. For all of you.”
Notice me.
“Hotch.” Morgan called to get his attention. Everybody looked up and saw that he was joined by Reid.
“Oh my god.” Penelope immediately stood and rushed over to them. She had definitely been crying. Spencer had forgotten that the two of you were friends. You were friends with the whole team, really. She enveloped Spencer in a tight hug. “When J.J. called, I couldn’t believe it.” She took a deep breath to compose herself. “We are going to figure this out and everything is going to be okay.”
“Babygirl, let the kid breathe.” Morgan gently pulled her way from him. Spencer just stared off into nothing.
“Her car is outside my apartment building.” He said blankly. “She was coming over to watch…” His gaze fell to the floor. “She was there. She was at my apartment and he took her.”
“Spence, this isn’t your fault.” J.J. put a hand on his shoulder. “You couldn’t have known that he was out there.”
Before he could respond, Garcia’s computer made a sound. She seemed almost afraid to look. When she did, her face dropped.
“Is there a pattern?” Hotch sighed. She nodded, trying to keep calm.
“Four bodies have been found in Maryland and Virginia. All of them were bound with duct tape, their necks were slashed and they were all raped.” She could barely say all of it without getting sick. She looked up at Spencer frantically. “But none of them had any messages or anything like that so maybe this isn’t the same guy. If it was the same guy, why would he…”
“Why would he leave her alive.” Spencer finished, closing his eyes. He couldn’t stop his brain from picturing every scenario, manifesting every scream.
“I’m going to go see if the doctors can tell us anything.” J.J. said, giving Spencer a reassuring look. Reid finally looked at Hotch. He couldn’t help but stare at the blood that stained the front of his superior’s shirt.
“What happened?” He didn’t think anything could be worse than what he already imagined. Hotch motioned for him to have a seat.
“Whoever did this wanted to send us all a message. He told her that if she didn’t get to my office, that whatever he did afterwards would be her fault. He wanted to make sure I saw what he did.”
“Morgan said that he-” Spencer took a sharp breath but was able to keep calm, distracting himself by picking at his nails. “He said that she had something carved into her chest?”
“Like I said, he wanted to make sure that I saw.” Hotch sighed. “He wrote ‘Notice Me’.” Everyone fell silent, each trying to wrap their heads around the situation.
“Hotch,” J.J. returned, her expression betraying her concern, “She said she’s ready for questions.”
“Can you handle it?” He pinched the bridge of his nose. “I should stay here and look over the cases Garcia found.”
“Of course.” J.J. paused before looking at Spencer. “She said she would like you to be there, Spence.”
“O-okay.” He rose slowly, his nerves barely allowing him to move. Morgan gave him a supportive pat on the back before Spencer followed J.J. to your room. Every step he took made his heart pound harder. He’d heard countless statements from victims, analyzed the most gruesome crime scenes imaginable, but he had never been this paralyzed before.
The two agents opened the door to find you struggling out of the hospital bed while a nurse tried to get you to lay back down.
“I appreciate everything, really, but I’m not going to sit here all night. I need to find-” Your argument with your nurse quickly came to a halt. “Spencer.”
“The doctor said you were ready to answer a couple of questions.” J.J. gave you a small smile, pulling a chair up next to your bed. “He told me you wanted Spencer with you.” She looked back at Reid, who was still standing in the doorway.
He just stood there and stared. Your face was bruised and a bandage covered an injury on your forehead- probably the blow that your attacker used to overtake you. Bandages covered your arms and he could see more under the collar of the hospital gown. You were shaking, the color from your skin faded and cold. Seeing him made your eyes water.
“Spencer, I-”
“You were late.” He blurted. He started to fidget with his nails. “I mean, I thought you were late. Even though you are never late for anything. You didn’t call or text me or anything and I still didn’t look for you. I should have looked for you. I-” His words caught in his throat.
You shrugged off the nurses hands and walked towards him, trying not to wince as you raised a hand to rest on his cheek. He had tears in his eyes and you could tell he was desperately trying to keep them back.
“Spencer, this isn’t your fault.” You said softly. He leaned into your touch and closed his eyes, trying to stop imagining what happened in that goddamn hour that that man would have had you.
“Dr. Y/L/N, you really need to be laying down.” The nurse insisted. Spencer opened his eyes and placed a gentle kiss on your forehead.
“She’s right. Come on.” He took your hand and led you back to the bed, helping to tuck you in under the blanket. He sat in a chair across from J.J. and kept your hand in his.
“Are you ready?” J.J. asked patiently. You nodded nervously. J.J. smiled reassuringly. “If you want to stop at any point, just let me know, okay?”
“Okay.”
“What were you doing before you were attacked?”
“I was driving to Spencer’s apartment.to watch a movie and have dinner.” You glanced over at your boyfriend. “I parked in front and walked towards the door, but I didn’t get there.”
“Were there cars already parked when you got there?”
“I-I think so.” You closed your eyes, trying to envision the scene, but all you could see was his face and with his face came the pain and the terror. “Oh god, I see him.”
“Stay with me, Y/N.” J.J. kept her voice as calm as possible when inside her heart was breaking for you and for the anguished Reid across from her. “Do you remember the cars?”
“Breathe with me, Y/N.” Spence instructed, kissing the palm of your hand. You calmed down enough and focused on the sound of his voice. “Breathe in. Breathe out.” You exhaled slowly and nodded.
“There was a van.”
“What color was it?”
“It was dark, but not black. Blue maybe? I don’t know, I only saw it for a second.”
“That’s okay.” J.J. said. She exchanged a look with Spencer. Now came the hard part. “What did you do when you got out of your car? Did you see anyone?”
“No, it was just me. I walked towards the door, but something hit me. Someone was dragging me away from the door. The next thing I knew, I was in a van.”
“Do you see anything?”
“There’s something on the walls. Some kind of padding. A-and on the back of the seat, there’s this jacket. A  women’s jacket. It was red.”
“What else can you see?”
“I see him.” A tear escaped your eye and fell silently down your cheek. “He-he’s leaning over me and he’s-” You paused and listened to the sound of Spencer’s breathing. You wanted to open your eyes and look at him. You wanted to see his face instead of the creature that did this to you. But you needed to do this. “He’s unbuttoning my shirt.”
“Do you remember feeling the van move at all before he did this?”
“No. No, he didn’t drive until after.” You felt Spence’s grip on your hand tighten. J.J. watched him carefully, reading the pain on his face. “He said something while he was taking it off. He said he ‘didn’t have enough time’ and he ‘couldn’t do it now.’ He said he wanted it to be special. That I was special.”
“Was he wearing a mask or a hood?”
“No, I could see his face. That face…” You held back a cry. Spencer held back the urge to wrap his arms around you. “That’s when he took out the knife and started carving this.” You put a hand on your chest. “He said I was his messenger.” Your heart was starting to race and you started to hyperventilate. “He… he kissed each cut as he made them and then he would kiss me.”
You finally opened your eyes and almost wished that you hadn’t. Spencer was crushed. There were tears on his face and utter horror in his eyes. You had to look away.
“Well… you know the rest.”
“You did great, Y/N.” J.J. reassured you. “Do you think you’d be able to give a description to a sketch artist?” Despite your efforts to keep it still, your lip started to tremble.
“D-do you think I can sleep first? I’m so tired.” You hadn’t realized how exhausted you were until now.
“Of course. Just let me know whenever you’re ready, okay?” She glanced over at Spencer with a supportive smile before she left to join the others in the waiting room. You couldn’t bear to look at the pain you had caused him.
“Maybe you should go with her.” You muttered, staring blankly at your lap, more tears threatening to spill onto your cheeks. You had brought him in here because you knew you needed him to get through this, but you hadn’t thought about what it would do to him.
Spencer tried not to show the hurt on his face, but he wasn’t successful. He let go of your hand and stood up.
“Let me know if you need anything.” His voice barely came out above a whisper. Any louder and he was sure it would have cracked. You watched the way his shoulders sagged as he walked, like he was carrying the weight of what had happened over his shoulder. You grabbed his hand before he got far.
“Spence, wait.” You motioned for him to come closer and held his hand against your heart. When his skin grazed against the cuts in your chest, it didn’t hurt. If anything, it eased the sting. “I love you.”
A small, lopsided smile appeared on his lips. Suddenly the box in his jacket pocket weighed more.
“I love you too.”
-
Once Rossi and Prentiss arrived, Hotchner briefed the team on what their next step should be. Reid, however, was nowhere to be found, which had made everybody worry. He sent Morgan and Prentiss to the latest murder crime scene to see if this really was the same unsub. Garcia went back to the BAU, but Rossi and J.J. stayed
“Do you think she’ll be okay?” Rossi asked, setting down a cup of terrible hospital coffee. It was almost morning now and no one had gotten any sleep.
“From what she told us, it isn’t over yet.” J.J. sighed. “He told her that she’s special. He’s going to come back for her.”
“And we will be here when he does.” Hotch stared down at the array of photos from the previous crime scenes. He was usually good about separating his emotions from a case, but this was an attack against his team. This was made to be personal.
Hotch started down the hall, turning the corner and stopping. He noticed movement in the corner of his eye and turned around. Reid sat on the floor with his back pressed against the side of a vending machine and legs crossed in front of him. His face was sullen and tear stained.
“Hey,” He greeted, immediately stiffening and whipping his face with his sleeve. He stood and brushed off. Hotch noticed the way his hands shook. “Have you guys found anything yet?”
“Morgan and Prentiss are heading to the latest crime scene. Based on what Y/N told you and J.J. about the attack, it could be the same unsub, but we don’t want to make any conclusions yet.”
Reid nodded quickly, keeping his gaze trained on the floor.
“Maybe I should go with them. I might get a better-”
“This isn’t your fault, Reid.” Hotch interrupted. He knew exactly where the younger agent’s mind was. “That is what he wants you to believe, but it isn’t your fault.”
“I…” Spencer knew that arguing with him was pointless. He just looked defeated. “I have to do something, Hotch.”
“The doctors will likely release Y/N in a couple of hours. We’ll need to get her somewhere safe. You should stay with her.” Hotch knew how the guilt was weighing down on him. He put a hand on his shoulder. “We’re all here for you, Reid. You and Y/N. We aren’t going to stop until we catch this man.”
“Thanks, Hotch.” Spencer sniffed. More than anything, he wanted to take you home and never let you leave his embrace. Reid leaned down to pick up his jacket from the floor, wincing when a small velvet box clattered to the tile. Hotch picked it up for him.
“Reid…” He proceeded with caution, but there was a warmhearted tone in his voice. “Is what I think it is?” He handed it to Spencer who hurriedly stuffed it back into his pocket.
“Actually it’s a-” He stopped and gave him his awkward lop-sided smile. “I was going to ask her tonight.”
“I didn’t know you were ready to take that step.”
“Neither did I.” Spencer laughed nervously. “But ever since I met her, I just knew. I knew that I wanted to spend the rest of my life with her.” He put his hand in his pocket, feeling the box in his fingers. Tonight was supposed to be so different. Hotch’s usually serious expression broke into a small, proud smile.
Hotch’s mind returned to the case and he started back down the hallway. Spencer walked towards your room, pausing when his phone rang.
“Dr. Reid.” He answered. For a moment, there was just breathing on the other end. Before he hung up, a low, raspy voice spoke.
“I won’t be ignored anymore, Dr. Reid. You all notice me now.”
Reid took off running. He found Garcia in the waiting area and pointed urgently at his cell phone before continuing the call.
“You’re right. You have our full attention.”
“I know that little trick. Make me think I’m in control so your pretty little tech can trace this call. I learned from the best.” He chuckled deeply. “You won’t find me until I want you to.” There was a brief pause, like he was stopping for effect. “I was just calling to ask you some questions, Dr. Reid.”
“I’m not nearly as interesting as you are.” Reid tried to keep his tone even as he watched Garcia scramble to trace the call.
“Could you hear her screaming?” His voice was like nails on a chalkboard. “I want to make sure that those soundproofing panels worked. She kept calling out for you over and over and over…”
“You want us to know who you are, why don’t you tell me your name?”
“Tell me, have you had her yet, Dr. Reid?” His suggestive voice made Spencer’s blood boil. “I’m dying to know what it’s going to be like when I have enough time with Y/N.”
“You won’t get that chance.” He finally spat, losing control.
“Don’t worry. I’ll take better care of her than I did those other girls. I look forward to meeting you, Spencer.” Just like that, the line went dead.

“you have a package, y/n!” ghostbur called out just as you placed tommy’s breakfast in front of him. the ghoul’s words went completely ignored by tommy, whose gaze was solely focused on the beautiful stack of pancakes placed in front of him.
y/n smiled to herself. “you can bring it in, bur. i know who it’s from.” she shuffled syrup and butter over to tommy just as ghostbur came in with the fateful package.
tommy was already half way through scarfing down the stack of pancakes when y/n managed to open the package, ghostbur gazing over her shoulder. she took out a note set atop of the contents.
she read aloud, “y/n, i’m sorry i haven’t properly stopped by in a while. my work requires much of my undivided attention right now, which i’m sure you understand. please work your magic for me with the clothes included, and i will be sure to drop by for them and a meal soon. there are a few extra gifts included for you. i hope tommy isn’t burdening you. signed dream.”
“i’m not a burden!” tommy spoke offendedly through a mouthful of pancakes.
“you’re right, tommy,” y/n hummed, handing him a napkin to wipe some syrup off of his chin. “you’re perfect company.” tommy smiled to himself as he finished off his stack of pancakes. y/n sighed to herself, “clay really knows how to ruin a good piece of clothing..”
“so you and dream are close, y/n?” tommy grumbled, picking up his glass of milk.
she shrugged. “as close as you can be with someone you barely see.” she placed his battered clothes to the side, sighing again when she saw the rest of the contents of the box. tommy didn’t realize this, continuing with his questions.
“i remember that he respected your territory when he stepped into it,” he recalled. “he was going to kill me, but then he realized he was in neutral.”
y/n nodded. “when i made claimed this territory as neutral, i made a deal with everyone: i would mend and tailor anything you needed as long as you respected my territory as neutral.” she held up a box of diamonds and a smaller box of netherite to tommy’s view, making his mouth drop open with surprise. y/n held out another napkin to him for the milk that had sputtered out of his open mouth while ghostbur laughed into his hand. “clay is the only one who still tries to pay me.”
“with netherite?!” tommy exclaimed, letting out a surprised laugh.
y/n shrugged, seemingly not phased by the generous gift. “the nether..” she shook her head, placing the valuable materials onto the table, “is not a place i like to go. and most of this will probably be going toward dream’s armor, anyway.” she sighed, placing the gifts back into the box and laying the tattered shirts on top of them. “trust me, he’s still too kind for his own good with these sorts of materials.”
“how much netherite does that man have?” ghostbur scoffed, looking at how much was contained in the box.
“probably quadruple that amount,” y/n chuckled. “he has far too much free time.”
“and he doesn’t even spend it with you,” ghostbur sighed, shaking his head with a goofy smile.
“i know!” y/n spoke sarcastically before laughing out. she closed the box and set it under the table. “i’ll deal with that later. do you want any more pancakes, tommy?”
“no, i’m stuffed,” the teen yawned. “but thank you.”
she nodded. “well, then how about ghostbur shows you around the territory today?”
the boys perked up immediately. “really?”
“yeah,” she laughed, taking tommy’s empty plate. “you two can take the day to explore and have fun. go be a kid, kid.”
tommy excitedly looked up to his ghost friend. “fancy a game of ultimate tag?”
“you’re gonna get crushed,” ghostbur laughed before they both ran out of the house, laughing. y/n smiled.
“oh! i should make them lunch..”
...
“how big is this place?” tommy laughed after a few rounds of tag. they had found their way to a pond in a forested area, tommy deciding his knee needed a break after all of their running.
“it’s bigger than you think,” ghostbur assured, making sure to keep an appropriate distance from the water as they sat along the small shore. “y/n claimed the territory before l’manberg, so there really wasn’t any need for a turf war of any sorts for what she settled.”
“how long has she lived here?” tommy questioned.
ghostbur shrugged. “almost two years, i think. she’s made quite the life for herself since.” more to himself, he muttered, “god, has it really been that long since it happened?”
“since what happened?” tommy asked, leaning closer to his friend with sparkling, curious eyes.
ghostbur sighed, “i’ll admit, i don’t remember too much.. but i know there was a fight. one of the first wars of our time, and it was all over y/n.”
“they were fighting for her?” tommy spoke with confusion. “she’s not an object.”
“very good, tommy,” ghostbur prided, patting his friend on the shoulder. “you’re right, she’s not. that’s why y/n left her original home and sought to create neutral territory; to end the fighting and create a place where peace could reign. in exchange, she’d offer her goods and services.”
“so they were fighting over her for her skills,” tommy understood. ghostbur made a face. “..or not?”
“both sides obviously wanted her skills, but i think y/n tends to neglect the fact that they were all madly in love with her,” ghostbur sighed, shaking his head.
tommy raised his eyebrows. “a crime of passion, eh?” he joked, making them both laugh out before he asked, “who was it?”
“let me think,” ghostbur sighed, tapping his chin. “i know one was dream, but the other.. i think it was-”
“boys! lunch is ready when you are!”
tommy turned back to ghostbur. “well? who?”
ghostbur shook his head. “sorry, tommy, i don’t remember that far. that’s as much as i can tell you.”
tommy couldn’t help but fel disappointed, but he knew he couldn’t blame his friend. “that’s alright, ghostbur. let’s go get lunch before y/n comes looking for us.”
...
after lunch and an insistent rematch of tag, ghostbur and tommy made their way to the organized garden area.
“y/n grows anything you can imagine,” ghostbur bragged as tommy marveled as the fluorescent, beautifully natural area. “she’s been to nearly every biome to complete her garden.”
“you can grow cocoa?!” tommy exclaimed when he finally spotted y/n, who was swinging an axe at a low jungle tree.
“y/n found a way,” ghostbur shrugged, guiding tommy over to her. “hey, y/n!”
“hi, boys,” she smiled, plucking off the plant she had loosened from the tree. “was lunch good? im sorry i didn’t stay and chat.”
“it was delicious,” ghostbur complimented, tommy nodding in agreement as his mind drifted back to the mouth watering coleslaw and toasted sandwiches she had prepared.
“that’s good!” she smiled, placing the cocoa plant on the ground. “you boys may want to step back.” they did as told as y/n swung her axe over her head, splitting the cocoa clean in half and revealing the delicious beans inside of it. “voila!”
ghostbur clapped politely. “thank you,” y/n laughed, dropping her axe and picking up the split plant. “would you boys like a sample?”
“sure,” tommy shrugged, stepping forward with ghostbur. he picked out a few beans before popping them into his mouth. breaking through the semi-tough shell, the delicious, dark taste flooded his taste buds and made him nearly moan, as y/n’s food often did. he and ghostbur shared a look of satisfaction before he voiced, “oh, y/n.. they’re perfect.”
“that’s good,” she laughed before nudging her bucket closer to her and scooping the seeds out into it. “how has your day around the territory been?”
“entertaining,” tommy spoke before asking, “how did you get into gardening, y/n?”
y/n gave ghostbur a knowing smile before she answered the younger boy’s question, “i was tired of eating only meat and bread. gardening was a way to expand my diet to more than just carbs and proteins. also, it’s very calming.” they followed when she hiked up her bucket and moved to the next jungle tree.
“is it?” tommy questioned.
she affirmed with a nod. “it’s nice to be able to spend a day tending to things you made. the fruits of your own harvest are the sweetest, they say.” they watched as she knocked down another cocoa plant.
“they are,” tommy nodded solemnly, his mind drifting to a sadder, more familiar place. “that’s why i miss l’manberg.”
y/n was barely surprised by the boy’s open confession. she tossed her axe down again, going to place a hand on tommy’s shoulder. “i know you do, tommy, and i know it’s rough right now. but what we’re playing here is a waiting game; we’re waiting for a safe opportunity to get you home, and in the meantime, i’ll take care of you, kid.”
tommy offered you another nod and a smile. “we?”
y/n gave him a kind grin. “im going to help you as best as i can from where i am. and i know that’s not much from me, but i know that everyone deserves a home that they love. and you can’t get there alone, kid.”
“you’re right about that,” tommy sighed before looking into her kind eyes. “thank you, y/n. your help means a lot.”
she squeezed his shoulder. “of course, tommy. you and ghostbur go explore some more; try to keep your mind on the things you can control.” she picked her axe back up.
tommy looked to the pitying ghoul beside him before looking back to y/n, a new thought fresh in his mind. “can you teach me how to cook?”
y/n grinned as she lifted her axe over her head again. “of course i can, tommy.”
tommy smiled as she cracked open the plant. he looked back to ghostbur. “wanna go for a swim?” the ghost shot him a fearful look. “im kidding! im kidding, let’s go use some pigs for target practice.” they both began to walk off, chatting and giggling before tommy turned and called, “y/n!” she looked up attentively. “what’s for dinner?”
she smiled. “i was thinking ribs!”
tommy’s mouth watered at the thought. “oh my god, i can’t wait to learn how to cook..”

Bucky Barnes imagines - Some Sunny Day Part 2
Tumblr media
AN: I’m splitting episode 3 into two chapters because so much happens.
Summary: Before the Blip, you and Bucky were close. After you both returning and Tony’s funeral, you decided to go back to your home town to spend time with your family. When duty calls, you return.
In this chapter: Despite your protests, Bucky seeks out Zemo (Based on S1 EP3)
(PART 1 HERE)
Pairing(s): Bucky Barnes x Fem!Reader, Sam Wilson x Platonic!Reader
Word Count: 5,196
Warnings: Spoilers for episode 3, violence, strong language.
You watched Bucky as he sat beside you on the aircraft.
“Do you mind?” Bucky’s side eye didn’t make you look away.
“I’m just trying to see what’s going through that head of yours.” You confessed. You were all on your way to Germany to visit Zemo. It wasn’t a plan you were happy with but it was the plan.
“Don’t bother.” Bucky frowned, looking down at his hands on his lap. “And don’t ask me if I think this is a good idea again.”
“I wasn’t going to ask that.” You turned away from the man.
“What was it then?” Bucky asked.
“I was going to ask if you were sure you wanted to do this.” It was another question you had already asked 20 times or more but you couldn’t shake the overwhelming feeling of anxiety about this trip.
“She has a right to be worried, Buck. The last time you were alone with Zemo, you ended up putting (Y/n) through three windows.” Sam reminded you both of what happened the last time you were in Berlin.
“It won’t happen this time.” Bucky tried to reassure you both but you still felt uneasy.
After another hour or so Sam announced that you were almost there.
It was a short drive to the prison from the airport but once you were inside, you felt your chest begin to tighten again.
“He’s just through that corridor.” The German guard gestured up ahead and that’s when Bucky stopped you.
“Alright. Give us a sec.” Bucky instructed the security guard before turning to you and Sam. “I’m gonna go in alone.”
“Why?” Sam asked,
“You’re Avengers. You know how he feels about that.” Bucky said as he looked between the two of you.
“It’s not like you two were known for frolickin’ in the sun together.” Sam felt he needed to remind Bucky of the past again. However, Bucky stood his ground.
“He was obsessed with HYDRA. We have a history together. Trust me. I got it.”
“Buck...” You started,
“I got it.” He repeated himself before you could say anything else.
You watched Bucky head through the doors alone.
“Let’s wait outside. This place gives me the creeps.” Sam encouraged you to follow him to which you didn’t do without hesitation.
Sam brought you a hot drink as you sat on a bench outside.
“I forgot how worried he can make you.” Sam admitted as he sat down beside you.
“I’ve seen what he went through, Sam. All of it leading up to Zemo. I just... I don’t want it happening to him again.” You knew you couldn’t explain the extent of why you cared for Bucky.
“You love him.” Sam said. It wasn’t a question but rather a statement. “I can see it clear as day. Anyone could if they stuck around long enough.”
“Why are you bringing this up, Sam?” You sighed, looking away from him.
“Because it’s also obvious that he loves you too. You run around driving each other crazy with worry but you have none of the good stuff that comes with being in love with someone.”
“What do you know about love, Don Juan?” You chuckled as you tried to lighten the tone.
“I know it when I see it.” Sam smiled but there was a sadness behind his eyes.
“Things are complicated, Sam.” You muttered, “You already know that.”
“Well I also think that if Bucky got some he’d be a whole lot less angsty all the damn time.” You knew Sam only said it to make you laugh but you still gave him a whack for the comment.
“Shut up, Sam.” You shook your head, trying not to smile at the inappropriate comment.
Sam kept you entertained by a couple of silly games of rock, paper, scissors before Bucky returned.
“Come on, I got some information. We gotta go.” Bucky hurried you and Sam along.
“Just like that?” You were surprised that Zemo even spoke to Bucky at all.
“A location. I’ll explain everything once we get there.” Bucky wasn’t giving you much information and it was making you a little suspicious.
“Hey, hey, hey...” Sam ran after Bucky, stopping him. “You gotta give us a little more than that.”
“Zemo agreed to help us after hearing that there were more super soldiers. It was his life ambition to stop the winter soldier programme and he’s given us a lead.” Bucky explained.
“And you’re just gonna trust his word?” You probed.
“There’s not much else we can do.” Bucky did make a point.
It didn’t take long to reach the large warehouse/garage that Bucky wanted to go to.
Bucky on the way had started rambling about breaking Zemo out of jail in order to help you guys which sounded ridiculous to you.
“Tell me you’re joking, Buck.” You pleaded, unsure whether he had lost his mind entirely.
“He’s our best shot at finding who is making the serum and he’d be a lot more useful out than in.” Bucky opened the door to the building and you followed him inside.
“What are you talking about? You wanna break Zemo outta jail? Where are we, Buck? Have you lost your mind?” Sam was just as lost as you were as he shot questions at Bucky.
“We have no leads, no moves, nothing.” Bucky sighed as you made your way in with your flashlights.
“What we have is one of the most dangerous men in the world behind bars.” Sam argued.
“We also have eight Super Soldiers that are loose.” Bucky retorted.
“Anyway, I thought this was a lead?” You tried to look around but the place was badly lit. There were mainly mechanic tools and lots of storage scattered around.
“It’s complicated.” Bucky frowned.
“What’s complicated is Zemo. He’s gonna mess with our minds. Especially yours. No offence.” Sam shone his flashlight at Bucky as he spoke.
“Offence.” Bucky didn’t look impressed as he found the light switch. “Super Soldiers go against everything he believes in. He is crazy, but he still has a code.”
“I’ve been on the wrong side of that code and so have you. He blew up the UN, he killed King T’Chaka and framed you for it. Did you forget that? You think the Wakandans forgot about it? It’s a rhetorical question. They didn’t. I know why this matters to you, but it’s pushing you off the deep end.” Sam stepped closer to Bucky. You couldn’t deny that Sam had a point. Zemo was the one who tore the avengers apart by framing Bucky.  “We don’t know how they’re gettin’ the serum. We don’t even know how many of them there are.” Bucky couldn’t give up. “Let me just walk you through a hypothetical. Can I?”
“What did you do?” Sam narrowed his eyes at Bucky.
You were busy looking inside the car that was revealed by the lights coming on.
“I didn’t do anything.” Bucky shook his head before he continued with his ‘hypothetical’.
“The weakest point in any system isn’t the software, the hardware, it’s the meatware. The human element. Now, in this lockup, it’s nine to one, prisoners to guards. And if two prisoners start fighting, then the protocol says four guards have to respond.”
“So why would two prisoners randomly start fighting at that moment? Who knows?” Sam questioned.
“There could be many reasons…” Bucky shrugged. “But the point is, these things escalate. Lockdown procedures would have to be initiated, and with all those bodies flying around left and right, wouldn’t be hard to slip down a hallway or two.
At this point, you stopped looking around and looked over at Bucky with your arms across your chest. You weren’t liking how thought out this plan was sounding.
“And if the fire alarm got tripped while the prisoners were being separated someone could use the chaos to their advantage.” Bucky continued.
“I don’t like how casual you’re bein’ about this. This is unnatural. Are you… And where are we, man?” Sam gestured around the place with confusion locked on his face.
“Bucky, I’m with Sam on this one. I’ve got a bad feeling and–––” A door opening behind you cut you short.
You turned around to see Zemo walk through the plastic door curtains.
“Woah, woah, woah!” Sam jumped forward instructively. Bucky managed to stop him but he didn't stop you.
You rushed towards Zemo and held the tip of one of your knives to his Adams apple as he held his hands up.
“What are you doing here?” Sam shouted at Zemo before snapping back to Bucky.
“I didn’t tell ’cause I knew you wouldn’t let this happen.” Bucky admitted.
“What did you do?” Sam pointed at Zemo in shock.
“We need him.” Bucky stated to which you chuckled harshly, pressing your knife a little harder.
“You’re going back to prison!” Sam called over.
“If I may..? “ Zemo tried to speak but you all shut him up with a unanimous ‘No.’
“Apologies.” Zemo mumbled.
“(Y/n), put the knife down.” Bucky came towards you and wrapped his hand round your wrist. “Please?”
You did. Slowly.
“Look, when Steve refused to sign the Sokovia Accords, you both backed him. You broke the law, and you stuck your neck out for me. I’m asking you to do it again.” Bucky looked back and forth from you to Sam.
“I really think I’m invaluable.” Zemo spoke again.
“Shut up.” You rose the knife again to which Zemo took a step back and pretended to zip his mouth shut.
“Okay.” Sam sighed after a moment of contemplation. “If we do this, you don’t make a move without our permission.”
“Fair.” Zemo nodded.
“Bucky... You understand what this means right? If they find out we took Zemo, specifically you. We’ll be on the run again and I don’t know if there will be a pardon this time either.” The concern in your eyes made Bucky frown.
“It’ll be alright. He's the only shot we got to stop these guys.” Bucky wasn’t sure if he believed his own words but he was praying that this was the best thing to do.
“Alright.” You turned to Zemo. “So where do we start?”
Zemo gestured for you to follow him before taking you into another dark room. You kept your knife in your hand just in case.
He reached for the light switch to reveal a mass of classic cars.
“So our first move is grand theft auto?” Sam cocked his eyebrow at the impressive collection.
“These are mine. Collected by family over the generations. I spent years hunting people HYDRA recruited to recreate the serum. Because once it’s out there, someone can create an army of people… like the Avengers.”  Zemo entered one of the cars and pulled out a bag. “I ended the Winter Soldier program once before. I have no intention to leave my work unfinished. To do this, we’ll have to scale a ladder of lowlifes.”
“Well, join the party. We’ve already started.” Sam told the man.
“First stop is a woman named Selby. Mid-level fence I still have a line on. From there, we climb.” Zemo took his bag and headed into another room.
“Jesus... How big is this place?” You looked around to see it was full of clothes.
“First I change and then we head to Selby.” Zemo placed the bag down before filing through one if the rails of clothes.
“How are we supposed to get anywhere with Zemo on our hands? We can’t exactly call Torres and ask for a ride but please ignore the fugitive that’s coming with us.” You looked between the boys.
“I will get us there.” Zemo told you.
“Great.” You pressed a fake smile onto your face which Zemo chose not to acknowledge.
Tumblr media
Before you knew it you were at the airport at Zemo’s private jet.
“So all this time you’ve been rich?” Sam’s eyes went wide at the sight of the plane.
“I’m a Baron, Sam. My family was royalty until your friends destroyed my country.” Zemo spoke as if it was well known information. You felt a pang hit you in the chest, it happened every time you thought of Sokovia... it was guilt.
You watched Zemo greet an elderly man in a suit before you entered the jet.
You sat furtherest away from Zemo, still feeling very uncomfortable about him being free and under your custody.
You watched him sip on a glass of champagne like he had no worries in the world.
“You don’t know what it’s like to be locked in a cell. Oh. That’s right you do.” Zemo reminded you of the time Tony had locked a lot of the avengers up.
“Why don’t you tell us about where we’re going?” Sam suggested.
“I’m sorry. I was just fascinated by this. I don’t know what to call it, but this part seems to be important. Who is Nakajima?”
Before you could blink, Bucky had lunged forward and taken Zemo by the neck.
“If you touch that again, I’ll kill you.” Bucky kept hold of Zemo for a second longer before sitting back down. You had fought the urge to get up and take hold of his arm to calm him down.
"I’m sorry. I understand that list of names. People you’ve wronged as the Winter Soldier.” Zemo made no attempt at a sincere apology for the invasion of privacy.
“Don’t push it.”  Bucky warned him.
“I’ve seen that book. It was Steve’s when he came out of the ice. I told him about Trouble Man. He wrote it in that book. Did you hear it? What’d you think?” Sam smiled as he thought back on the memory.
“I like ’40s music, so…” Bucky shrugged.
“You didn’t like it?” Sam seemed more shock to hear this than when he saw Zemo.
“I liked it.” Bucky proclaimed.
“It is a masterpiece, James. Complete. Comprehensive. It captures the African-American experience.” Even Zemo had to get involved.
“He’s out of line, but he’s right. It’s great. Everybody loves Marvin Gaye.” Sam turned back to Bucky after giving side eye to Zemo.
“I like Marvin Gaye.” Bucky repeated.
“Steve adored Marvin Gaye.” Sam couldn’t drop it but you didn’t bother getting involved.
You looked at the book in Bucky’s hands. You knew Steve had given it to him before but seeing it again after all this time brought up a hundred thoughts. You remembered the many things you had told Steve to watch or eat or listen to like ABBA, Mochi ice cream and pranking him by suggesting the twilight movie as must see.
“You must have really looked up to Steve.” Zemo mentioning Steve made you look up again. “But I realised something when I met him. The danger with people like him, America’s Super Soldiers, is that we put them on pedestals.”
“Watch your step, Zemo.” Sam warned him.
“They become symbols. Icons. And then we start to forget about their flaws. From there, cities fly, innocent people die. Movements are formed, wars are fought. You remember that, right?” Zemo looked over at Bucky. “As a young soldier sent to Germany to stop a mad icon. Do we want to live in a world full of people like the Red Skull? That is why we’re going to Madripoor.”
“What’s up with Madripoor? You talk about it like it’s Skull Island.” Sam asked but you already knew of Madripoor. Anyone with links to the underworld of crime knew of Madripoor.
“It’s an island nation in the Indonesian archipelago. It was a pirate sanctuary back in the 1800s.” Bucky informed him.
“It’s kept its lawless ways. But we cannot exactly walk in as ourselves. James, you will have to become someone you claim is gone.” Zemo looked down at his duffel bag of clothes that you had watched him pack before.
“What do you mean by that?” You finally chimed into the conversation.
“James will have to retake the person of the Winter Soldier. You both will have a role to play also.” Zemo explained, turning to face you as you sat in the chair by the back wall of the jet.
“Bucky, can I speak to you privately?” You looked past Zemo to Bucky. Bucky gave you a look to ask where would you go so you stood and opened the cabin toilets door.
Bucky huffed before following you in.
“Bucky I’m not okay with this.” You whispered as you pressed yourself up against the wall so you could try and fit both you and Bucky a little more comfortably.
“This isn’t up to you.” Bucky sighed.
“Everything about this situation is making every nerve in my body scream this is a bad idea.” You folded your arms across your chest as you stared up at Bucky.
“How many times do I have to tell you that this is the only plan we got?”
“I don’t trust him.” You kept your voice low as you threw your hand up in the direction of the door.
“Do you trust me?” Bucky asked.
“I’m starting to question it.” You muttered.
Bucky just stared at you in response.
“Yes, I trust you.” You grumbled, caving in.
“Anyway I have you if things go bad.” Bucky tried to make light of the situation but you weren't impressed.
You left the bathroom and remained silent until you drew closer to Madripoor.
Tumblr media
Upon your arrival in Madripoor, you were handed some clothes to change into.
“You’ve got to be kidding me?” You held up the small material dress that you were meant to wear.
“I had to choose a disguise that would cover your face. Too many people here would know you from your days before the avengers and after.” Zemo defended his choice of ‘costume’ for you.
“So I’m assassin barbie?” You scoffed before taking to the bathroom to change.
You slid on the black leather playsuit and boots, along with the mask that Zemo gave you.
You felt exposed and uncomfortable. You managed to hide a few knives in your boots and you slid on a thigh holster to hold some more to make you feel like you were protected at least.
“Loose the knives.” Zemo instructed.
“Are you serious?” You were growing more agitated by the minute with this man.
“You are playing an escort. You can’t have knives on show.” Zemo pointed to your holster.
You bit down on your cheek as you removed it.
“Fine.” You then left the plane to Sam and Bucky waiting outside. Bucky’s eyes went wide at the sight of you but he tried to hide it by clearing his throat and looking away.
“We have to fix this. I’m the only one who looks like a pimp.” Sam was wearing a red patterned suit and chains. He didn’t look too bad in it either.
“Only an American would assume a fashion-forward Black man looks like a pimp. You look exactly like the man you’re supposed to be playing. The sophisticated, charming African rake named Conrad Mack, aka the Smiling Tiger.” Zemo handed Sam his phone revealing a picture of Conrad Mack.
“He even has a bad nickname. Hell, he does look like me, though.” Sam took the phone and looked down at the picture.
“(Y/n) is playing your partner for the night. Conrad is known for his appreciation for the finer things in life and often has a woman on his arm Therefore, (Y/n), you must be attached to Sam’s hip the entire night.” Zemo filled you all in on the reason behind your disguise.
“Excuse me, what?” Bucky almost choked at the idea of you having to be Sam’s woman for the night.
“Well it is the only disguise that makes sense. She can’t be your girlfriend as you are the Winter Soldier. She can’t be mine as everyone knows I am loyal to my wife. She has to be the smiling tigers current whore.”
“Watch your mouth.” Bucky hissed.
“We all must play a part.” Zemo defended his choice of words. “You smell this?”
“Yeah, what is that? Acid?” Sam asked.
“Madripoor. No matter what happens, we have to stay in character. Our lives depend on it. There’s no margin for error. High Town’s that way. Not a bad place if you wanna visit, but Low Town’s the other way.” Zemo gestured across the city as a car approached you all.
“Let me guess. We don’t have any friends in High Town.” You sighed as Zemo opened the car door for you.
“Not if we want the answers we are looking for.” Zemo climbed into the car after you and then the boys followed.
It didn't take too long to find the way to low town. You had been to Madripoor before but it had been years ago.
You did as you were ordered when you all exited Zemo’s car. You stuck by Sam, walking in the middle of Sam and Bucky.
The air wasn’t cold but it felt thick, you could feel it sticking to your bare skin which gave you the desperate urge to take a long shower.
“Here we are.” Zemo had brought you to a bar. It was busy and filled with a lot of men.
“Ready to comply, Winter Soldier?” You heard Zemo ask Bucky in Russian.
You heard whispers around you questioning if Bucky was who everyone thought he was. It made your gut clench with nerves but you didn’t let it show.
“Hello, gentlemen. Wasn’t expecting you, Smiling Tiger.” The bartender greeted Sam and Zemo but barely brushed a glance over you.
“His plans changed. We have business to do with Selby.” Zemo spoke for Sam. You then felt Sam wrap his arm around your waist. You leaned into him, batting your eyelashes first at Sam and then the bartender.
“The usual?” The bartender asked Sam. He nodded, afraid that if he spoke then it would give away the facade.
You were thankful you were wearing a face mask when you saw the drink made for the Smiling Tiger. You grimaced at the dead snake being cut open and then again when one of its organs was dropped into Sam’s shot.
“Ah, Smiling Tiger. Your favourite.” Zemo picked up his own drink as he looked down at Sam’s.
“I love these.” Sam forced himself to speak.
“Cheers, Conrad.” Zemo and Sam touched glasses before Sam hesitantly shot back the drink. You could tell Bucky enjoyed watching that.
“I got word from on high. You ain’t welcome here.” A man suddenly approached from behind and tapped Zemo on the shoulder. You felt Sam’s grip on you tighten protectively.
“I have no business with the Power Broker, but if he insists, he can either come and talk to me...” Zemo held his hand out to show his new bodyguard.
“New haircut?” The stranger looked Bucky up and down.
“Or bring Selby for a chat.” Zemo gave him the other option. The man retreated.
“A power broker? Really?” Bucky spoke once the stranger had left.
“Every kingdom needs its king. Let’s just pray we stay under his radar.”
“Do you know him?” Sam asked.
“Only by reputation.” Zemo admitted honestly.
“In Madripoor he is judge, jury, and executioner. You can’t visit low town without appearing on his radar.” You spoke up as you let yourself look around the room and take in just how many threats were around.
“And you know this why?” Sam looked down at you. He must've forgotten your past.
“I was a free agent before the Avengers. I've been here undercover a few times especially when I was a young teenager. Surprise Surprise evil guys like little girls.” You kept quiet in case anyone around was listening.
Zemo suddenly spoke a command for Bucky in Russian once again and that’s when another stranger put his hands on Zemo.
You watched Bucky follow orders and he didn’t hold back.
He grabbed hold of the strangers wrist and pulled him off Zemo before attacking him and several others around.
You took notice of those around with their phones out. Cameras...
You went to step forward when you felt Sam squeeze your side. He gave you a look that told you no.
“Didn’t take much for him to fall back into form.” Zemo muttered to you and Sam. You wanted to punch him.
Bucky slammed another man onto the bar and that’s when you heard the wave of guns cocking.
Sam took hold of Bucky’s arm when Zemo told him to stay in character.
Instead Zemo told Bucky to stand down once you were informed you could see Selby.
Sam took hold of you hand and dragged you along side him as you all left the bar.
“She isn’t welcome.” One of the guards stopped you before you could enter the room.
“Excuse me?” Sam scoffed at the guard. “She’s with me and so she is welcome.”
“Let her in!” You heard an English accent call from ahead.
“You should know, Baron. People don’t just come into my bar and make demands.” Selby was an older woman with a white pixie cut and a sly grin. Sam remained stood and so did Bucky but Sam had commanded you to take a seat next to Zemo.
“Not a demand. An offer.” Zemo was impressing you by how cool he was playing this. It also worried you.
“A lot has changed since you were here last. By the way, I thought you were rotting away in a German prison. How did you escape?“ Selby asked.
“People like us always find a way, don’t we? I’m sure you’ve already figured out what I’m here for.”
“You’re taller than I’d heard, Smiling Tiger.” Selby ignored Zemo as she eyed up Sam.” What’s the offer?”
“Tell us what you know about the super-soldier serum. And I give you him, along with the code words to control him, of course. He will do anything you want.”Zemo had risen from his seat and held Bucky by the chin.
“Now that’s the Zemo I remember. I’m glad I decided not to kill you immediately. Yeah, you were right to come to me. Arrogant, but right. The super-soldier serum is here in Madripoor. Dr. Wilfred Nagel is the man you wanna thank...Or condemn, depending on what side of this you’re on. The Power Broker had him working on the serum, but… things didn’t go as planned.” Selby fed you what she knew.
“Is Nagel still in Madripoor?” Zemo questioned.
“Oh. The bread crumbs you can have for free, but the bakery is gonna cost you, Baron. And before you get all cute, don’t think you can find Nagel without me.” Selby pushed herself from her seat and walked across the room.
That’s when Sam’s mobile went off.
“Answer it. On speaker.” Selby ordered. The gun behind Sam made him pull out his phone.
“Hello?” He answered.
“Hey, um, we need to talk about this situation. It’s been drivin’ me nuts.” A woman’s voice came through.
“What situation exactly are you talkin’ about?” Sam tried his best to keep up his persona.
“Are you high? You know what situation, it’s the only situation me and you have.” The woman’s attitude was not helping Sam’s case.
“What situation, Sarah? Say it.” Sam demanded.
“The damn boat. And watch your tone. Okay? I let you slide at the bank.” Sarah snapped back.
“The bank. Yeah. Laundered so much...” Sam chuckled. “Yeah, they’ll come around.”
“If that was the case, then why’d they dog you out, Big Time?” Sarah asked.
“Yeah, you damn right I’m Big Time. You’ll see when I have that banker killed.” Sam tried to seem intimidating but at that moment you knew you were screwed. You reached down into your boot to take a knife just in case.
“Cass! What’d I tell you about the Cheerios? I don’t have time for this! Sam, I’m sorry. I’ll call you back.” Sarah had used Sam’s name and that was the end of it.
“Sam? Who’s Sam?” Selby looked pissed. “Kill them!” She ordered but before her hired men could react, a bullet came through the window and shot Selby down.
You snatched two knives from your boot and sent them into the guard behind Sam.
Bucky immediately reacted with taking out the other guard.
“They’re gonna pin this on us.” You took the knives from the body as the boys took the guns.
“We have a real problem now, so leave your weapons and follow my lead.” Zemo’s order made the boys put their guns down but you just wiped your knives and placed them back in your boot.
You left the club in a hurry. Text chimes went off around you and you knew the power broker had seen what happened.
You were well and truly fucked.
“This is not good.” Zemo’s last words before the shooting started.
You took off alongside Bucky and Sam, cursing the fact that Zemo had put you in the most uncomfortable shoes on the planet.
“I can’t run in these heels!” Sam shouted which almost made you laugh.
“Down here!” You took a turn into an alley to get off the road as two mopeds appeared behind you.
Before you could spin around to fight, a shooter had taken them out.
“You seem to have a guardian angel.” Zemo looked just. as confused you felt. You weren’t aware you knew anyone who was in Madripoor at the moment.
“Well, this is too perfect. Drop it, Zemo.” A familiar face soon revealed itself from the shadows.
“Sharon?” Sam furrowed his brow at the woman.
“You cost me everything.” Sharon ignore Sam as she spoke to Zemo.
“Sharon, wait. Someone recreated the super-soldier serum and Zemo had a lead.” Sam stepped ahead of Zemo to protest him.
“That explains why you guys are here. And Selby’s dead.”Sharon glowered at the four of you.
“So what are you doing here?” Bucky asked the question on everyones mind.
“I stole Steve’s shield, remember? I also took the wings for your ass, so that you could save him from him. I didn’t have the Avengers to back me up. So I’m off the grid in Madripoor.” Sharon informed you.
“Don’t blow smoke. Both (Y/n) and I were on the run, too.” Sam didn't bother with feeling pity.
“Was. Is. Big difference. I don’t speak to my family anymore. I can’t. My own father doesn’t know where I am.” Sharon shot back.
“Listen, Sharon, we need your help.” Bucky interrupted her before she could say anything else.
“Please.” You added. You and Sharon were friendly for a time before the world went to hell. You figured she’d help you at least.
“This isn’t over. I have a place in High Town. You’ll be safe there for a while.” Sharon sighed, giving in and lowering her gun.
“Thank you.” You pressed a small smile onto your face but Sharon didn’t reciprocate.
She managed to get you to a car safely and you headed out of low town for the night.

"I won't talk" You spat at the men towering over you. You were firm, and steady in your composure. More troopers, higher ranking than the predecessors, continued in the attempt to break you. The Empire wanted the child, and you'd never let them get close. The vents blasted near frozen air onto your shoulders from above, insulated in your holding cell that was encased with metal and designed for discomfort.
Without another helpless word, and the press of a little red button, bolts of electricity coursed throughout your already exhausted body, delivered by the small device forcibly wrapped around your head. The pain was excruciating, but you were beginning to feel numb with every passing second. This was the 5th...no, 6th time...so far, that this pain has been inflicted on you. It benefitted neither party in the room. You offered no evidence of weakness aside from your obvious pain. They had to know that you weren't any close to revealing any useful information.
"If you won't talk, Moff Gideon will be taking matters into his own hands. Give us the location of the kid, or suffer the consequences" Their voices were muffled in a similar way that Din's helmet muffled his voice. It reminded you of him in an oddly comforting way. You missed him terribly already. Without even seeing the true look in Din's eyes when they captured you only seconds before you were able to make it to the Razor Crest, you knew his heart made the most difficult decision he's ever had to make. You knew it was you or the child, and neither of us would ever let them get their hands on him.
Although you kept your composure in the presence of your captors, you were scared. Petrified, even. Din swore to himself many months ago to protect you in exchange for you assisting him in raising the child. You knew little of childcare, but Din knew you could both figure it out together. After all, you did owe him big time for saving your life when you first met. And here we were, right back where it all started...you needed to be saved again. You hoped he'd gotten the child miles away from here by now. You'd lost track of time but it felt like hours, maybe even half a day at this point.
Your silence was the only response to the further questions.
"Suit yourself" One of the troopers scoffed, and swiftly exited with his partner. The door slid open and closed just barely long enough for them to leave. You were then trapped, cold, and alone again. As much as you wanted to be relieved from your situation, you cared significantly more for the safety of the child and your armored protector.
The minutes dragged and your chest felt heavy as the panic began to sink in. This was it for you. No way they’d let you leave after being of no use to them. Your death was inevitable, and your racing thoughts began to slow as you came to peace with that.
You heard the faint hissing of a door on the other side of your cell, signifying someone's entry. Then suddenly, your cell door slid open, revealing a towering figure. Although you'd never seen the late Darth Vader, the way you imagined him was reflected in this man.
The jet-black shine of his armor was enough to startle you in his presence. But his expression...the menacing grin framed the picture of a despicable man.
Your face was blank. Showing any fear was not an option right now. Although, you were subtly trembling in your seat.
"You know that you've made a big mistake, right?" He said, approaching you slowly, using his height to tower over you while you were seated on a steel bench.
Silence.
"Your beloved bounty hunter isn't coming back for you," Moff Gideon said softly, getting uncomfortably close to your face. "Why not just comply with our requests so we can move along with the search? hm?"
"You'll never find them" You hissed at him.
"Oh, actually I will. That you can count on" He laughed. The insulting tone made you sick. "However, if you tell us where they are, your torture will come to an end and we can get this whole thing over with. What do you say?"
"Never."
"Your persistence is admiring, truly it is. But why waste your time? He doesn't care about you. He's a Mandalorian. They only care about their creed. Everything else is just...a commodity."
You shook your head in denial. That wasn't true.
"You're wrong."
His gloved hand firmly grabbed your chin, pulling your face up toward him. You cringed and winced under his touch.
“Where are they?” He persistently shouted in your face. You jolted your head backward in attempt to put distance between the two of you. With your response of more silence, you were met with a sharp and painful blow to the side of your face. You turned to look back at him, trying to collect yourself from the pain. His fist was still tight and ready to throw another punch.
The second punch was worse, it radiated pain through your entire skull and caused your eyes to go blurry for a moment. The cuts already open on your cheek were split open with damage you were taking. You felt the blood begin to drip down your face. Any additional infliction would be hell, but you’d take any pain necessary to keep everything you loved safe.
His other hand brought to your attention a small red button. The same button the stormtroopers used to electrocute you before. You whimpered in anticipation and tears involuntarily formed in your eyes.
A deranged smile spread across his face. Your fear just fueled his power. And just before he could inflict any additional pain on you, he seemed to have received transmission into his ear.
His brows furrowed. His eyes then locked with yours.
"Repeat, commander" a look of concern was on his face. Disbelief, even.
"Don't let him step foot on my ship" Moff Gideon seethed.
Although you were uninformed to the other side of the conversation, there was no question. You grinned ear to ear. He came back for you. Of course he did.
"Well, change of plans. The Mandalorian dies today" Moff Gideon snickered.
"We'll see about that" You whispered.
The ship shook and vibrated under your feet. As if a ship had docked...or crashed, maybe. Moff Gideon snapped his attention behind him, as if he could see what was happening through the secured doors.
Another transmission came through, one you still weren't able to hear.
"If he doesn't have the child, then he's no use to me. Kill him."
Your heart sank at the mere thought of losing him. But it wouldn't happen. Gideon's troopers were no match.
Moff Gideon kept his close watch over you while he hid like a coward in your cell with you. His hand rested atop his blaster in preparation for what he knew was to come. The cruiser you were aboard had a crew of probably 50 people. If they all served to be as awful at combat as other troopers that you’d seen Din take down, you’d be rescued in no time.
You watched Gideon’s body language grow more and more nervous and fidgety as the commotion grew on the other side of the door. Blasters and the sharp clinking of metal filled the narrow space of the ships walls. That muffled sound was moving closer. As the situation became less favorable for Gideon, it became more favorable for you. That fact alone put a smile on your face.
Then suddenly…three loud bangs penetrated the walls. It sounded as though someone was trying to break through the first door. But that wasn’t regular armor hitting the metal…it was beskar. Gideon trembled. He jolted when the banging arrived at your cell door. He was displeased to hear you laugh at his reaction, which fueled his anger.
He yanked your arm and threw you in front of him as a human shield, pulling his arm around your chest and igniting the dark saber, holding it only centimeters from your throat. The blade vibrated loudly, threatening to take your life in one motion. What a fucking coward. Can’t even fight without using you as bait.
It took less time for Din to break through the second door. Within seconds, the door snapped and broke open, revealing your protector wrapped in his armor as usual. What was unusual, though, was the splattered blood across his chest plate. You couldn’t even imagine what he’d just been through to get to you.
“Step another foot closer and she dies” Moff Gideon insisted.
“Let her go” his soothing voice broke through his helmet, calming your nerves, even with death being only a movement away. “You’re outnumbered, Moff Gideon”
“I would disagree. It seems it’s one on one”
He pulled the saber closer to your neck. You whimpered and squinted your eyes shut. Tears threatened to fall from your eyes as you opened them back up. You see Din’s fist in a ball, revealing his frustration and anger.
“Based on your fighting skills I’d say it’s more like two on one, wouldn’t you think?” Din snapped back at him.
“Alright. Let’s fight then, Mandalorian” Gideon said with a smirk on his face. He threw you down carelessly back onto the bench. You cried out in pain as your face hit in the cold seat.
Both men circled one another with their weapon of choice in the ready position. The saber was still ignited, and Din had his staff of beskar. No lightsaber could ever cut through beskar, not even the dark saber. Din swung first, striking Gideon’s side armor. He retaliated, only to be met with the staff that rejected the saber’s power.
There were flashes of blinding light back and forth, both men having a fair chance against the other. You watched in terrifying anticipation, fearful of Din’s safety. You believed in him, but to watch him fight scared you. After a few minutes, Din finally had Gideon pinned against the floor, with the beskar staff pointed right below his chin. The saber was thrown from his hands, and out of his reach.
This was it, you thought. We are getting out of here.
But not yet. Gideon made a move so swiftly you couldn’t even comprehend what had happened. The staff was knocked from Din’s grip, and he was thrown backward onto the floor. Gideon somehow maneuvered himself on top of him now, with the staff in his control.
No. Please no.
He could’ve killed him in one motion, but instead, Gideon pushed the staff under the grip of Din’s helmet and forcefully pulled it from his head, slicing his chin in the process. You gasped and looked away, to be respectful of his creed. You’d never seen him without his helmet. All you caught glimpse of was the deep brown color of his hair.
You only listened now, as you were unable to watch how this would end.
“You have nothing now” Gideon started, breathing heavy through his words. “Your creed has been broken. You have no purpose” he laughed, pleased with himself for to bring shame to his opponent. "Give it up, Din Djarin."
A familiar voice broke the air that you’d ever only heard through the distortion of a helmet. You gasped softly.
“She is my purpose. The child is my purpose. I won’t let you take that away from me” Din said. It sounded like the voice was directed toward you rather than Gideon based on your positioning. You melted at his words.
Not another word was spoken before the clanging of metal filled the room again, you couldn’t tell what was happening, which made you all the more terrified. Gideon groaned in pain, it sounded as if he was on the ground now.
“You’ll never take the child. And you’ll never see the light of day again. All because you took my girl” Din breathed deep through his words.
You heard the dark saber ignite again.
The vibration from the saber indicated a swift movement.
A loud thud against the ground.
Silence.
You trembled with your arms covering your head in a fetal position on the bench. You knew it had to be Din who was still standing, but you couldn’t bring yourself to move.
“Y/N” his warm voice graced your ears only inches from behind you. You audibly sobbed. Knowing immediately you were safe. He was still helmet-less, you could tell. You turned over to face him, but kept your eyes closed so you wouldn’t see him.
The electrocution device wrapped around your head was removed gently. You'd somehow forgotten it was even there. His hands then wrapped around yours as you moved to sit in an upright position.
“Look at me” he pleased softly
“But your hel-” you started
“Look at me” he insisted, squeezing your hands gently.
Your eyelids folded open slowly. You weren’t afraid, but you were hesitant. He was crouched in front of you. What you saw as your gaze met his, took your breath away. His eyes were brown, a match to his hair you caught glimpse of before. It was Din. You were finally seeing the man you loved for what he really looked like. He was so beautiful. All the words you wanted to say failed to leave your mouth as you scanned his face over and over again. His expression was riddled with worry and concern.
“Did he do this to you?” He referred to the gash above your cheek, and the other visible bruising down your body. You were suddenly aware of how deeply he cared for you.
On the verge of tears and still remaining speechless, you nodded your head. “I’m okay”
“He’ll never take you from me or lay a hand on you again” your eyes travelled over to Gideon’s lifeless body on the floor. Din gently pulled your face back to look at him so you wouldn’t be more traumatized than you already were.
“I’m here” he reassured you. A smile formed on his lips. Maker…that smile. You were seeing him smile for the first time. Sweat and patches of blood scattered Din's face. You couldn't imagine the hell he went through to get to you.
“But Din, your helmet” you remained confused. You knew that meeting other Mandalorian recently may have changed his outlook but you never thought he’d break the creed intentionally. He could’ve put it back on. But he didn’t.
“It’s okay... I wanted to see you with my own eyes. You are my purpose now, y/n”
He said it again. The same sentiment that surprised you before. Your heart was so full in that moment.
"I'm sorry I wasn't here sooner" He remorsefully spoke. "Its my job to protect you, and I almost failed you. It'll never happen again"
You shake your head. He didn't need to apologize. He was here now and that's all that mattered.
“I’ve never been happier to see someone’s face in my entire life” you say, continuing to admire his features. You bring your hand to cup the side of his face. He closed his eyes gently as a result of your caress. Your skin against his was so mesmerizing...so new to you...so new to him. You halted your gaze this time at his lips and then looked back to his eyes. He was looking at your lips too.
Neither of you had to say another word. An unspoken desire between the two of you was about to be fulfilled. His finger guided your chin closer to him.
The silence was so loud. The lack of troopers and personnel on the ship was haunting, yet somehow incredibly peaceful. The beating of your heart was beginning to fill that silence in your ears. It beat rapidly in response to your near death experience in addition to being this close to him. Being completely alone and intimate with him.
You leaned in to him with his guidance. As your lips just barely brushed against his, you took a sharp breath in. The skin on his lips was supple and warm. As you fully pressed your mouth against his, you fell apart into his kiss. Your whole body was encased in warmth and a feeling of security from this closeness with him. His hand rested against the back of your neck and pulled you closer into the kiss, if that was even possible. Even though you were truly alone, this kiss alone made it feel like you and him were the only two people left in the whole galaxy.
You never wanted to pull away from him. You both waited so long for this moment.
"You don't know how long I've wanted to do that" He whispered, as the kiss finally broke.
"I do, Din. Trust me I do" You giggled. You were captivated by the feeling that this kiss had left with you.
He pulled his head back to take another look at you.
"Let's get you home" He said, before standing to his feet.
Even weak from his battle wounds, he scooped you up into his arms, and carried you back to the Razor Crest.

So I don’t really know that much about that my blood au you created could you tell me a bit about it?
Tumblr media
Ha hah I Hope this is Edible
So My Blood Au is just Me dumping all the cool stuff i can think of into a DP what if Vlad is Good ^For Starter MB Vlad or Vladimir Jude Masters is a Paranormal investigater/ hunter/exocist in a sense. He seemingly Perfect in People eye, Not Really on the inside as he have many problem stem from living so long and going though alots of thing that he prefer not to talk about that he hide from People , go so far as to adjust his own emotion to what he find fit to the situration making him really hard to read. (Not Jack and Danielle, those are close enough 2 peel him like an onion if they sense something off). -Vlad And Danny are not same kind of Halfa in this AU, Vlad is Two soul (Half Blue Demon Vampire Ghost, Half Human twisted together and blend into one) and Danny is Soul within soul (Going though the accident give him two identical soul that over lapped each other) -Ghost are nerf and ecto beam and ecto Base attack can harm ghost but they can't harm Physical thing in living world Unless they are infuse with Core element same with Human entering Purgatory. -The world have 5 Realm: LivingWorld, Purgatory (GhostZone), Elsewhereness, Fairy Land and Unworld. +Going with the idea that originaly Vlad is supposed to be a vampire and many ghost in the series feel like they are more supernature creature then Ghost. Living world now have many Human and other Creature living among each other , hidden in plain sight +Purgatory: Where Ghost go and heal before they move onto Elsewhereness (Heaven in this verse) or Rebirth back to the living cycle. There are many area in Purgatory that fit human decription of after life look like , this is due to collective faith and ideal of many Ghost focus with each other to created these Resting stop. Incidentally like the living world these area are also watch over by being call King and Queen of the Death (Caretaker and protector of the Death soul, a being with incredible power capable of bending reality). Most well known one are the King Dark, Prince Argon and Princess Dora of the Dark Age Zone. Queen Desire of the thousand and one night. ect.. newest King of the death is Ghost Writer (library of the forgotten) but he prefer not be refer to as king, just Ghost writer. +Elsewhereness: The final resting Places of enternal Bliss. Once the Soul is ready to let go of all earthly desire, they are send here. Not much is known about this realm or it location. When a Soul reach enlightment it will automatically know where to find it. The realm also House many god. +Fairy Land: Home to care taker of the childhood inocent and many god that work to keep the universe running. Most common creature that live here is Fairy with two side one silly colorful side that appear to children to granted what ever their heart desire. The other is the Blue fortune side that Weaved the fabric of Luck and fate. +Unworld: A Dark realm with one way in no way out. It house many dangerous creature, ancient outer god and unspeakable Evil that have been banish to through age by god and human. >the Origin Story: +Vlad and Jack are Friend from Childhood (Their Bond are really tight kinda like Sworn Brother ) unlike their canon counter part meet in college. They Hunt Ghost but in more of a Release soul from their earthly bound kind of way via the info they get from the Masters Family Grilmore. (There is one major inconvience is that You need to wait for the correct day and time to perform ritual sending ghost back to purgatory so they can Move on to Elsewhereness/heaven of this verse ) +They Meet Maddie in college (Maddie and Vlad almost alway in a total clash with each other with Maddie tech almost Hunter like way in dealing with ghost and Vlad more traditional Way of Handling them) Which end with Three of them forming the Original Ghost Trio. With Maddie accept Vlad and Jack Respect the Death ideal. And Vlad and Jack incorperate More Technology into their Asset. +Maddie point out the inconvinient of having to wait for the correct day for each ghost to send them back to Purgatory (Their room are fill with
Container for ghost), Which lead to them comming up with the idea of Making a Ghost Portal. <Note: MB Vlad is not into Romantic relationship, Platonic one Matter to him more> >The Accident: No diet soda the Accident is purely due to one miscalculation that cost Vlad life (his Head got Blash Clean off infront of Jack and Maddie) In that Split Second of His face getting disintigrating, Vlad get a Glim into UnWorld (the Realm where are Demon and evil of the four realm are banish to) and Got Latched on and Pushed Back to the living world by a Demon Vampire Ghost Both Soul are now inhabited Vlad headless lifeless body, in Which about 3 day after Vlad burial that Vlad Body got completely decontructed inside the coffin and recontructed into a body that is more fitting to host both . Vlad have a hard time remembering Who he is after kinda get rebirth and Wander the world until he Get Suck into a Natural Ghost Portal and got Flunk Back in time. >Journey of an Immortal Being: -Vlad Stuck in the Past, He recovered his memories, Going through existenal crisis, Evil phase, Evil make me feel bad, Not Evil anymore, Found out that he is immortal now, Existenal crisis part2, Acceptance, Travel the World and Start doing the what ever he like, learning old way of magic still helping ghost and other supernatural being. -Caused several Major Change to the past that Mythical Creature got un extinct. (Due to the Law of life and death this does not affect who get born or not, it just that the world got alots more races now and those used to be born human in the original timeline might get born as another races entirely) -Get Mistaken for Messiah.( Look You can't kill Vlad, He would just be gone for like 3 day then comeback) -Caused the legend of Dracula. -Vampire cult have a horrible obession with Vlad as a Whole. Look like vampire act like one, can walk in plain day light and more importantly the ability to Open a Portal to Unworld . ( Vlad don't use this ability much and can only open small one as it is very energy consuming) -Meet his own ancestor Which is the Fentonightingale that Later Splited into Fenton and Nightingale (later change to Masters) leading to revealation that Jack and Him might be very distant Related. -Bickering With Time God (Do not trust the Clock Man that work for the Eyes) -Get Caught in War far too many time. -Meet Phantom (an odd entity that is oddly clingy to him) in the Great War. -Meet Other Some of the DP ghost when they still alive -The Horrible Bar incident that reveal Phantom true nature, an evil being that wish to turn the world back to it original nature of nothiness and try to turn vlad to the his side, Kill, Seal in Rock Case covered with Sigil to prevent Phantom from escape, Chuck it into the ocean. - The Contruction of the Coffin Ghost Portal. (Havent actually went into the Purgatory caused the CCP is one Way Portal. -Forming of many Hidden town that home supernatural being. Amity Park is one of them. - And many more unseen story >Daddy Stolen Ribbone saga (MB Vlad is sterile, he want to have kid but can't.) -The Vampire cult that he have grudge with attemp to Clone or at least created a child that have Vlad Power through ritual and cult like method. Imagine Danny Clone but even more mess up . -Vlad end the life of most of them by his own hand (they are suffering, it is best to let them go) -Birth of Danielle: +Danielle Evelyn Masters or just Dani/Dee for short is the only Stable child come out of this whole odeal. She is Created From Vlad Ribone like a Twisted Eve. And like in the book it caused both of them to be very attached to each other in a Fatherly Daughterly Way. +Dee Have Vlad Ghost power and Demonic Power but No ghost form (Her default funtion as both and whether she is in ghost mode or Human mode is all Up to energy control) and no connection to Unworld there for she can't open portal to Unworld. Dual Soul nature Wind/Fire.
+She like Frog and is interested in Marine biology (which Vlad have full support over, she have a room fill with Vlad hand made frog plusie that she all named. +He raise her teach her everything he know about how to deal with supernatural being and how to Snipe Vampire from a long distant with pin point accuracy.
+An kidnapped incident with the Vampire cult latter resulted in Dee Death at the age of 12 (1999), and Vlad becoming fully Merged into one Being with Plasmius. and wipe out the entire vampire cult in a horrible Vlad the impaler way). +After wiping out the remainder of the cult, vlad go into retirement and work as a wall Painter < he work supper fast on celling painting and no one know why> >The Boy Who Fly (2 year before the start of actual MB story) -Danny Gain his power at the age of 10, his parent know. The event of Portal acivation caused the whole town to have a black out. -They move House alots for 2 year. And Jack try his best to make his family as normal as they can be after accidenly k his friend all those year ago and now half eff his own son. -They finding out amity park their new home is on accident when the RV engine die mid way through the middle of no Where (The town shown it self to those in need) -Danny hide his abiltiy. But after a gym incident. and getting Praise by his peer for it instead of scold like with the adult Danny start getting bolder using Floating power around his new friend when no adult is watching. <Vlad who is Working on the Giant Raven paiting for the School Saw this and know imediately What Danny is> -They offically meet each other on the the roof top, when Danny mom ask him to go down the store and by some bread and he decided to try to Air Frog Swim to it. They become friend and Vlad even teach Danny how to fly properly before having to leave (they visit each other alots after the revealation, and vlad is a good adult friend that Danny can talk to) (Danno forgot about the bread and return home breadless) -Jack may stop with the whole Paranormal hunter/ghost scientist job but not Maddie. She keep doing it behind his back due to danny special need in ecto base consumtion (he havent grow abit since the accident and keep getting smaller and it concerning) -Jack found out and they have a Fight. which lead to Maddie go to his Sister house. -Danny Found out about why his dad was so stressed out about ghost thing now. ⇢ Copyright: please do NOT repost, translate, or modify my works in any way, shape or form, on any platform. If found doing so , it is considered as plagiarism and appropriate LEGAL action will be taken
⇢ Authors note: This is my mini series for the summer! Get your tissues, things to take your anger out on, and sit back and watch the drama unfold. Shall we begin?
The scent of vanilla with a hint of cinnamon is what wakes you up from your sleep. Hair and body tangled in-between the blankets, which lets you know you you had tossed and turned once again. The frizzball on your head is definitely going to be a challenge to work with. Stretching your limbs, you let out a small yawn only for your hands to drop back down and feel nothing but cold emptiness.
Was it a dream? Dream? You didn’t even have one of your night terrors for the first time in a year. The dream to you seemed rather pleasent. Jimin tangled up in your arms as he holds you tight while you breathe into his bare chest. The warmness is something you had longed for once again and it all felt surreal.
‘‘ You awake yet?’‘
The voice startles you, making you drop your phone onto the comforter and turn your head towards the bedroom door where it came from. His blonde hair and small smile peep through the door, hoping to atleast get a better reaction out of you.
So it is real.
“ You’re really here? Did I bump my head too hard to where im imagining things?” You pull the covers close to you for security. Just as in your dream, there he is barechest and all.
He lets out a squeaky laugh followed by a smile as he comes towards your bed, tapping them to give you a signal to open. You raise an eyebrow but oblige, spreading them a bit only for him to sit inbetween them. It feels as if you’re heart might explode with the sudden flirtacious moves from him. Something you have been wanting but still aren’t used to.
‘‘ You slept so good that you don’t remember last night?”
You look at him eyes wide and then down to your body, “ Please tell me we didn’t-’’
‘‘ As much as I would of love to, No.’‘
A shot of relief flows through you but sadness soon comes over. He isn’t yours to be thinking these sorts of things. He isn’t yours in general. It wouldn’t be right for him to say things like that to you, while still entangled with another female.
‘‘ Why so sad?” His hands comes to your face to caress your cheeks. You shake your head softly then grab his hand to slowly lower it back down.
Jimin sighs, “ Baby just tell me whats wrong.’’
That word. That word you know always messes things up with your thoughts. Your emotions, hell everything in your body too.
You slowly make your way off of the bed, not interested in the conversation anymore. It’s not like you don’t want to continue, you do, but the guilt of everything that comes with it is enough to stir you away.
‘‘ Jimin don’t use that word. You technically still belong to Isabel.”
‘‘ Is she here at this very moment?” He cocks his head to the side with a smirk. You roll your eyes in response to his cockiness.
‘‘ No. That doesn’t change the fa-”
‘‘ Alright then. Now are you going to tell me what’s really on your mind or do I have to force it out?” He raises his hands and scrunches them with grabby motions. You don’t fall for it though.
You make your way to the doorway, “ That’s all Jimin. I promise. Just call me by  my real name okay?’’
But that’s not what you want. What you want you know you can’t have. It’s not because you can’t have it because you want too. It’s just that it would make you feel like a terrible, horrible person. The look on his face when you say those words almost make you give in. Those puppy eyes caught yours and for a split second you almost consider it but don’t. It’s hard for you, it really is. Having something dangling in your face but you’re too concious to have it.
He’s still not yours.
Tumblr media
With the morning being spent eating a good breakfast Jimin made your favorite pancakes. You watched him carefully, the way his hair bobbed up and down a bit while his right arm whisked the batter quickly. He seemed so natural and comfortable as if he was used to doing this for you. With your elbows on the island counter and head in your hands while you’re seated, you can’t help yourself to stare at the back of him and let the memories float in your mind.
Memories that never fade from you. It’s cute of him to steal glances of you here and there when pouring the batter into the pan. The small winks he gives you makes your heart flutter and the blood rush to your cheeks. It feels rather good to you to have his presence here. Despite the guilty feeling in the pit of your stomach.
The rest of the day you two decide to lounge around. Endless movies and tv shows throughout the day as you’re cuddled up next to him with a pink colored blanket for the two of you to share. Clara seems to enjoy her time with him too since she won’t let him put her down. She meows loudly with every movement of him. Such a drama queen.
‘‘ Jimin it’s getting late..” You pause, looking up at him. He gives you a small frown when he sits up in hopes you won’t finish your sentence. “ She might begin to worry you’re not home yet.”
Jimin ignores your comment only to latch onto your body a little more rougher, arms not wanting to let go. You giggle before running your fingers through his hair as his head lays softly onto your chest. You wan’t him to leave mentally, but your body wants to hold on to him for way much longer.
‘‘ Your heartbeat is soothing to me.”
It always has been. Anytime he just wanted to talk when you were in a relationship, he would lay you down and then lay himself on you with his ear pressed against your chest. Some days he would have been happy to talk, others, he just wanted to lay there to fall asleep.
‘‘ Seriously Jimin. You should leave.”
He shakes his head, ‘’ Shhh. Jungkook is coming soon and I would love to sit here and have you to myself.’’
You raise an eyebrow is confusion, “ Why is he coming here?’’
‘‘ I kind of sort of lost my keys to my home. Isabel came yesterday to give the copy’s she went and made when we were at Ryan’s office.  I left the house key with Jungkook while going after you instead of putting it on my keychain right away.”
So that explains why she came. It also would of been better to have touch pad, or even facial recognition to enter the home. Anyone can just copy the key to your home. The fans are already crazy enough after that time you two saw one trying to follow you into your used-to-be shared apartment. It didn’t end so well either.
“ Why don’t you have touch-pad?” You say, sitting up with a disappointed look.
‘‘ Funny story. When the house was made I thought keys would be better than touch-pad on the outside because any paparazzi who manages to get through the front could snap pictures of the code. So why not use a key right?’‘
You just sigh and shake your head in disappointment, not even wanting to explain why that would still be a dumb idea. “ Whatever makes you happy.”
‘‘ But if you were there you would of stopped me.. right?”
Your eyes shoot down to him only to see him staring right back up into yours. The butterflies in your stomach begin to flutter once more. It’s been so long since you felt those.
‘‘ Yes. Yes I would have told you it was a dumb option because nobody can make it past security without calling you first.’‘ You whisper, both of your faces inches away from each other.
‘‘ I thought so. Can I make another dumb suggestion?’‘ His voice says, faint enough for you to hear making the hairs stick up on your neck.
You swallow slowly as chills run down your spine out of anxiety, ‘‘ What?’‘
‘‘ This.’‘
It all feels surreal to you. His lips against yours moving in sync together it’s all just surreal. Within seconds his tongue is swiping against your lips begging for entrance in which you comply. The way his hands rub up and down your thighs is sure to make you moan against the kiss, grabbing them to lead it to your core. He obliges and traces the outline of it outside of your clothing, laying you down gently on the couch in the process.
Until that painful doorbell rings loudly causing you both to groan. Jimin pulls away with a plop noise and give you a wink before lifting off of you to go see who is at the door. Your clothes are ruffled up a bit and that small wet spot between your legs seems to not too noticeable when you fix yourself up quickly.
Sex with Jimin. You almost had sex with Jimin. You feel wrong about it but at the same time you want nothing more to have him make you a screaming moaning mess. You miss him, the way his stroke game is, and everything about him dominating you in the bedroom.
He’s still not yours though.
‘‘ Who is it?’‘
You sit up and fix your hair to at-least look presentable. That kiss meant everything to you. Your feelings and body enjoyed it but your mind did not. It slipped your mind that you should of pulled away. Nothing can replace how it felt to have his lips on yours again.
The door opens revealing Jungkook who’s face is a little red and breathing hard. He runs inside and shoves Jimin out the way before slamming the door shut and locking it with his back against the wall. You furrow your eyebrows and get up from the spot you’re sitting in.
‘‘ Jungkook what’s happening? Why are you run-”
Bang! Bang! Bang!
‘‘ Open the door now! I know you guys are in there! Jimin get your ass out here now!’’
Bang! Bang! Bang!
Your eyes go wide. That voice. That oh so familiar voice is standing right outside your apartment door.
‘‘ I tried telling her you went to practice with Seokjin for some new choreography but she knew I lied. Im sorry I tried to run as fast as I could to my car to get away from her. She followed me here in her car and then I had to run some more up to your apartment.’‘ He breathes hard, handing the new set of keys to Jimin.
Shit! You have no words to say. This wouldn’t of all started if you wouldn’t have been so stubborn yesterday to just take a taxi. You wouldn’t of passed out, he wouldn’t have been here with you all day today.
That doesn’t excuse the fact that this girl is batshit crazy for following Jungkook and showing up at your actual fucking apartment. Jimin looks at you with sorriness in his eyes. You look at him with anger and cross your arms to prove your point as to why he should have left in the first place.
‘‘ Im going outside to talk to her. I’ll be back in a couple of minutes.”
Jimin’s hand pushes down the handle to the door and as soon as he cracks it open, the force of the door pushes open harshly hitting the wall next to it, making him stumble back a little.
‘‘ So you think it is okay to go to your exes apartment? I would never disrespect you like that Jimin, you know that!”  Rage has taken upon her, face red and it doesn’t already help that her facial expression is beyond pissed.
Slap!
You watch in horror as her hand connects with his left cheek. Jungkook’s eyes go wide, but then frown into anger before walking over to her. Stomping with each step he takes.
“ Watch what your fucking doing okay? That’s my brother and I certainly do not hit girls but with one click of a button Ryan will be on her way to beat your ass got it?’’
‘‘ Jungkook stay out of this! This isn’t your battle. Now you, you have some nerve letting him inside here. Obviously you were not enough for him to go cheating on you.” Isabel says, stepping away from Jimin and leaving him there at the door.
That one hurt. She does have a point though, you should of made Jimin leave regardless of what he said to you. You got caught up in the moments that weren’t meant to be yours. Its true, she has every right to be mad.
‘‘ I don’t appreciate you being around Jimin..” She inches closer to you, hands on her hips. You begin to back up, eyes to the ground of guilt. If only things wouldn’t have unfolded like this.
‘‘ Your relationship to him is starting to be inapropriate.” Isabel’s eyes make contact with yours when you look up. She looks at you as if you’re disgusting, and you can’t blame her.
‘‘ Isabel..’‘ Jimin warns, coming behind her.
On the heel of her feet, she turns around shaking her head. “You don’t deserve to talk. You care so much about her, but did you forget we are a couple? We may just be cooling things off between us, but you are still mine as I am to you.’‘
Jimin sighs, stopping just behind her, ‘‘ Isabel look..”
“ Jimin..” Jungkook starts, uneasy of what his brother is to say next. You know what’s coming and you know that tone of Jimin’s voice all too well.
The same one he used when breaking up with you. You see the tears well in her eyes. Some part of you feels bad for her because you know those words well. You know that feeling all too good.
‘‘ Are you really breaking up with me because of her? We were doing just fine until she showed back up in the picture. Are you seriously doing this?” Her voice cracks on the last words. That made your heart sting a bit. This isn’t right.
Jimin sighs looking at the two of you back and forth. You are the one for him, it’s no doubt. It was a stupid choice for him to cheat on you. It was a stupid choice for him to leave you in the dust like that. You gave him everything. A loving relationship, a home, happiness, you are the highlight of his days. He misses you just as much as you miss him.
“ Isabel we are through. I’m sorry I couldn’t be the man to your expectations. It’s my fault. All my fault and I shouldn’t have let you belie-”
“ Fuck you. Fuck you Park Jimin.” Her words slice through the air, piercing Jimin right in his heart. It hurt for him to hear that, but he deserves it.
Jungkook doesn’t look so shocked, but he does wish Jimin would have did this else-where other than your apartment. Isabel looks at you with envy, reaching into her small chanel bag for something. Jungkook gives her a warning look to just leave before grabbing your arm to make you stand behind him.
“ Isabel I’ll walk you down. It’s best to just leave it be. Please.” Jimin begs from behind her. You watch the tears roll down her eyes and you still can’t help but to feel guilty.
You are the cause of their breakup. Maybe you really should have minded your business about Jimin. Maybe you shouldn’t have entertained his charming ways at all. Looking back down at her hands, you see a small pocket knife she grips tightly. You tap Jungkook and point which makes him push you behind him even more.
“ It’s a bad idea. You can hurt me but you wont hurt my brother or her.” He says, daring her to make any type of movement towards you.
Jimin comes behind her and attempts to grab the knife in which she slashes his palm on accident trying to push him away. In that quick second, Jimin hisses in pain while pulling away giving Isabel all the time she has to get to you while Jungkook is already across the room for his brother, forgetting you hiding behind him.
‘‘ Shit! Jimin are you okay?” He asks, but then quickly turns to you, “ Quick! Go hide! Hurry! “ Jungkook screams.
‘‘ Isabel this isn’t what he wants. He wants you to be happy and getting back at me will only upset him more!”  As if your words would even convince the crazy girl in the slightest.
She just laughs as your words, fastly walking to you who’s, running towards the living area thinking it would cut time shorter if you cut through there to your bathroom.
You aren’t fast enough. She tackles you to the ground where you two rumble around trying to get away from her until she putting all her weight on you as she sits directly on your chest making it hard for you to breathe.
“ Maybe a little mark on your face will tell you to stop home-wrecking people’s relationship.” She raises the knife up high and you watch in horror before she raises it back to in attempt to make a slash on your forehead.
You block each attempt at her trying to slash anything on your face. Your dad always told you to protect your face in self defense and fighting and thats what you do. Only until with one last thrush, the knife connects with your forearm, making a nice sized gash on it.
‘‘ Fuck!”
The voices in your area fade in and out. You look to your left to see Isabel being dragged out by a pair of cops. But the puddle of blood forming around you rapidly sends you into panic. Only you cant panic. You cant speak. Your vision is slowly loosing faith in you.

For The Lover That I Lost (Wanda Maximoff/ Reader)
Tumblr media
Hello! Welcome to part 9, inspired by Sam Smith’s “For the Lover That I Lost”. This now takes place post-civil war.
Summary: Y/n and Wanda are finally able to talk. Will the talk end in love or tragedy?
“All of the memories feel like magic, all of the fighting seemed so sweet. All that we were, my love, was tragic and you're the last thing that I need.”
“Do you think we could have that talk now?”
For a moment you just stared at the clouds floating past the small window you were seated by and let the question hang in the air. She had given you space for a few hours, but you knew this moment was bound to come.
The problem was that your healing was precarious, you knew that, and you didn’t know if it could withstand a conversation that was sure to open the wounds you had spent months patching up.
“Y/n?” Wanda called, cautiously placed a hand on your shoulder.
With a deep breath you turned your body to face her. “I thought about it, and I don’t know if that’s a good idea, Wanda.” You answered honestly.
Her brow furrowed slightly, “I understand your hesitation, but-“
“Look, Wanda, allow me to save you the trouble.” You began steadily, “You’re sorry for how everything happened. I accept your apology. You don’t want to lose me from your life. Give me some time and then we’ll work on rebuilding the friendship. Did I get everything?”
She stared at you, her eyes troubled. “Well, not exactly, I was trying to-“
Once again, you interrupted her. “And I won’t stand between you and Vision.”  You added with a snap, as if you had just remembered something important.
“Will you stop interrupting me?” Wanda exclaimed, shocking you into silence. “Sorry, I just-… I forgot how stubborn you can be.” She rubbed her arm in embarrassment.
You stared at her silently, granting her wish of no interruptions. Waiting for her to get to her point, that you still weren’t sure you wanted to hear.
As you observed her, you noticed the way she nervously spun the ring she was wearing on her finger while she seemed to ponder where to begin. “Have you always done that?” you gestured to her hands, unable to stop yourself from asking.
Her eyebrows raised at your question, obviously not expecting it. “I…” she thought about it for a moment, then ducked her head slightly. “I guess it was something that I picked up from you. For so long, your nerves were intertwined with my own that it just became a habit from watching you, I guess.” She mumbled.
You bit your lip and nodded but said nothing, taking note of how her eyes closely observed the action. You gestured for her to go on.
Wanda took a deep, steadying breath, making sure she maintained eye contact with you. “First, I am no longer with Vision. I haven’t been for months.” Your eyebrows raised curiously. “You were right though, part of what I wanted to talk about was how sorry I am. Y/n, I am, so, so, sorry. You deserved so much more than what I gave you. I don’t expect you to forgive me because I certainly don’t forgive myself.” The sincerity in her voice took you by surprise.
The glassy look in her eyes and prominence of her accent were tell-tale signs of how upset she was. It was information you wished you didn’t know anymore. You dropped your gaze to your lap, it was easier this way.
“There is no excuse-“ she continued until a quiet knock on the wall made her stop. You both looked over to see a sheepish looking Steve Rogers standing a few feet away.
“Sorry to interrupt. Again.” He coughed awkwardly. “I just wanted to let you know we’ve landed at our temporary hide-out. It’s that house up in the distance.” He gestured vaguely as the door to the quinjet opened to reveal an open field with an unsuspecting two-story house located in the center.
Under normal circumstances you would have thought it was a beautiful sight. The knowledge that you were all there on the run, tarnished that though. You let out a quiet breath. “It’s beautiful. Where exactly are we?”
“Spain. A very rural area at that.” He replied easily.
Despite the view, Wanda couldn’t take her eyes off you. She needed to talk to you uninterrupted and it seemed as though the universe was actively trying to prevent that from happening. All she could do was hope that this wasn’t an omen. That she still had a chance.
“How long will we be here?” Wanda questioned, finally tearing her eyes away from you.
At the question, Steve shifted in discomfort. “A few days... if that. When Natasha arrives, it’ll be best if we split into small groups at most. We’re wanted fugitives now.”
“Natasha?” you asked with a tilt of your head, distinctly remembering her on Tony’s side.
Steve nodded. “She helped me and Bucky get out. She’s wanted now too.”
Both you and Wanda shared a look of surprise, Wanda speaking up before you could say anything. “Thank you for the update, Steve. We’ll meet the rest of you inside.”
With a knowing nod, Steve took the hint and turned to catch up with Sam who had already began walking ahead. “Guess we better head out.” you mumbled.
“Can we take a walk before we go in? I’d really like to finish our conversation.” Wanda requested hesitantly, her eyes pleading.
With another steadying breath, you nodded. She seemed determined and obviously wasn’t going to let this go. “Okay, Wanda.” You stood up and walked with her out of the quinjet, veering to a small path that was on the side of the house rather than going inside.
After walking a decent amount, Wanda stopped and took your hand, effectively stopping you as well. You looked at her expectantly. She decided she couldn’t handle another interruption and decided to just be bold. “You’re the love of my life.”
Her words were so unexpected that you just stared at her for a moment, opening and closing your mouth as you tried to process. “I’m sorry, what?” you eventually choked out.
“You are the love of my life.” She repeated with three light squeezes to your hand. “Pushing you away – not fighting for you – was the biggest mistake of my life. A mistake I never plan on making again. I was confused and thought that my powers were tied to my heart. I was wrong. The only person that has ever held my heart and will ever hold my heart is you. I want to grow old with you. I want you for the rest of my life.” Her words were passionate and desperate as she tried to express the true contents of her heart, hoping you’d believe her.
Disbelief was the only thing you could feel as you watched her shimmering eyes remain on yours. Shortly following the break-up you had dreamed of a moment like this. Not anymore though. You couldn’t. You had spent months learning to live without her. The risk of allowing her back into your heart came at much too high a cost. You wouldn’t recover a second time. “I-I learned to live without you, Wanda. I can’t risk it with you again. I’ve played before and lost.” You answered, finally pulling your hand out of her grasp.
“Do you still love me?” she asked in a pleading tone, ignoring your words. She took your hands back in hers, you noticed that they were shaking ever so slightly. “Tell me you still love me. Please.”
You swallowed thickly and met her eyes, “I don’t love you anymore.” You said weakly, so weakly that you didn’t even believe it yourself.
Wanda shook her head, clearly on the verge of tears. “I don’t believe you. I know you still love me. A love like ours doesn’t just go away. I love you, Y/n. Let me show you.” Without a moment’s hesitation, she took your face in her hands and connected your lips passionately.
Wanda sighed contently at the contact she had been missing, the way you both fit together like two pieces of a puzzle. The rush of electricity was a feeling she longed for. Getting swept up in the moment, you returned her kiss temporarily before the shock wore off and the hurt settled once again.
Pushing at her shoulders you quickly stepped back. “You can’t just kiss me and expect everything to go away, Wanda.” You shouted at her. “I think I should go.” You mumbled turning to leave.
Watching you walk away again was a nightmare vision to Wanda and she would be damned if she gave up so easily again. She ran and stopped so she was directly in your path, preventing you from going any further. “Y/n, please, I can’t imagine my life without you” The tears she had been holding back bubbled over the surface and fell down her cheeks. You fought the urge to brush them away.
“You know, I used to think of you as the person that I was going to spend the rest of my life with too. As somebody who would never hurt me. Ever.” Wanda listened to you quietly as tears flowed more steadily down her cheeks. “Now all I see when I look at you is that last moment on the roof. Of you with him. It doesn’t matter what you say, or what you do… it’s too late.”
A sob escaped Wanda’s lips as she briefly covered her face with her hands. “Y/n, please… This can’t be it.”
“It is though.” Blinking back tears, you moved to step around her.
“Y-you’re a coward!” She cried after you, at your retreating figure. The pain clear in her voice.
Anger quickly replaced the anguish at her words. You spun around to face her, her jaw clenched. You couldn’t believe her. “I’m the coward? No, Wanda, you are!” you shouted back.
The woman in question ran a hand through her hair, tears falling even faster. She seemed at a loss. “You’re the one that chose to run instead of staying and fighting!”
Her words made something in you crack, she had no right to be angry. To pin the demise of what you both once were on you. “How is that fair?” you snapped at her. “I was supposed to stay and fight for someone who had very clearly decided they didn’t want me anymore? You don’t get to pardon yourself. The ashes of our relationship are on you and you alone.” You gritted out bitterly.
For a moment she just stared at you, her chest heaving as she clutched at her chest. Almost as though your words physically impacted her. “I…I’m sorry.” she took a deep breath and recollected herself. She reached out to you, you stepped back. Her face contorted in pain at the knowledge that you didn’t want her anymore.
“I know I don’t deserve it and you have no reason give it to me, but please, give us a second chance. Let me prove to you I mean what I say, to prove that you… you are everything. There will never be anyone else. I love you.” her eyes met yours pleadingly, slowly breaking before your very eyes.
You took your own deep breath and braced yourself for the words you were about to say. “Wanda, we don’t stand a chance. It’s sad, but it’s true. We’re bound to end in tragedy.” You said quietly, staring off in the distance because you weren’t sure you could handle watching her reaction. “It’s time to move on.”
Like a magnet though, your eyes found hers either way.
Broken. That’s the only word that came to mind when you saw her expression. Broken sobs left her lips. Her eyes glistened as they desperately searched yours for something, something that you had blocked off long ago. “You don’t mean that.” She whispered, her lips trembling along with her words.
You shut your eyes for a moment and prepared yourself to close the door on what you both had. “Goodbye, Wanda.” You whispered as you walked off without looking back.
If you did, you would have seen the way she fell to her knees. The knowledge that she had no one to blame for her own broken heart but herself bringing her to her knees. She buried her face in her hands as sobs wracked through her body. Longing for the comfort of your arms.
Silent tears rolled down your cheeks as you listened to the sound of her cries in the distance, but you knew it was for the best... At least you hoped it was.
That night Steve announced that it would be in everyone’s best interest to split up for the time being as he handed out older phones to everyone so each of you could be contacted and check in. After his announcement everyone retreated to their room. You quietly let Steve know where you planned on going and told no one else.
As you discreetly prepared to leave the following morning, you found a dozen flowers at your door, half purple violets and half white dittanies. The memory of the last time you saw these flowers filled your mind bittersweetly. A memory that no longer felt like it belonged to you.
When Wanda awoke, she was disappointed to find the flowers she had gifted you back at her door and the room you were staying in empty. Even if her heart ached, she knew that she couldn’t give up. She’d try and try again because your love was worth fighting for and she wouldn’t let you go again. She was determined to spend the rest of her life trying to win you back if she had to. There was no other path for her.
And there we have chapter 9! Angst, angst, angst. I got a little carried away lol. Only 3 more to go, where do you think the reader and Wanda will go from here? As always, hope you all enjoyed and thoughts and comments always welcome.
P.s. did anyone catch a hint of a different Sam Smith song in there? It may be a hint for the next chapter, it may not be. Still deciding.

skillet bread and mangoes
For @kanejweek Day 5: Love (atypical affection, domesticity)
Pairing: Kaz x Inej
Warnings: only sickly sweet domesticity here
Someday you’ll meet a boy who will learn your favorite flower, your favorite song, your favorite sweet. Padjen recalled the morning she had overheard her beloved husband telling their young daughter those words.
Her eyes wandered the countertops of the Van Eck mansion’s kitchen. Golden mangoes overflowed from a wicker basket, ripe enough that the kitchen smelled sweetly of the rare tropical fruit that had been a favorite of Inej’s in childhood.
...even if he is too poor to give you any of them, her husband had continued. There was no shortage of expensive scarce goods here; Kaz Brekker had made sure of that, though Inej would not tell Padjen exactly how. But Padjen was no fool - she knew it meant no less that Inej’s favorites were easily in Brekker’s reach thanks to his great wealth. She knew he would have acquired the mangoes no matter the amount of gold in his pocket.
Padjen turned her attention back to the dough at her fingertips. She folded the bread under and over itself, under and over, as she had a million times before, eyeing the dill just to the side of her pan. It would go in on the last fold.
A familiar tap and step sounded from the hallway. Sure enough the door creaked open to reveal Kaz Brekker, the boy who had mysteriously paid their passage all that time ago.
He has brought her knives and death, not flowers and songs, Padjen recalled fretting at her husband only days after meeting Kaz Brekker.
Only one woman loves knives with the names of Saints, her beloved husband had responded sagely. Padjen had put her fingers to her lips, then her chest, in the holy gesture of her Saints.
"You're back," Padjen said now, clearly pleased.
Kaz Brekker nearly never smiled, but Padjen had always been intuitive at sensing the moods of others, and this one wasn't too far from happiness - dare she say, maybe even joy.
A split second later, it was clear why. A bullet of a child zoomed through the doorway just narrowly missing running right into her father's legs. The little one, Padjen's pride and joy, had been a gift bestowed upon them by the Saints, and Padjen had been thanking said Saints every day since.
"Matka!" The Suli word for grandmother in the tiny child's high-pitched voice always made Pajden's heart melt.
"My little love," Padjen exclaimed, scooping the small girl up.
"How's it coming along?" The voice of Kaz Brekker was something akin to listening to one stone pave way against another.
"Your nose will tell you better than words ever could." Padjen beamed at him.
Kaz eyed her bemusedly. Now I see where Inej gets it from, he'd told her once with more warmth than she'd ever heard him express before at that time. When she'd asked, he explained Inej's partiality to proverbs. You mean wisdom, Padjen had corrected him, smiling. But he'd never been mocking of their ways, only observant.
"Did you find the rosemary then?" Padjen eyed Kaz Brekker's hands, which were empty but for his cane.
"No, but-"
"...she likes it better with dill." Padjen said along with Brekker.
And it was true. When Padjen had first been reunited with her daughter and the enormous wealth that came with that, Padjen had made skillet bread with rosemary, but Inej had scrunched up her nose, lamenting the lack of dill.
Only one woman loves dill skillet bread, Padjen could imagine her husband commenting.
"Can I ha'?" Padjen's beauty of a granddaughter pointed her chubby fingers at a tray of pastries Padjen had toiled away all morning making. Not that she hadn't had any help. Kaz Brekker himself had joined her to make and shape the dough.
They were to celebrate the day of Inej's birth this night around an open fire.
"You may have anything your little heart desires." Padjen leaned forward to tickle her grandaughter's little belly to the sound of shrieks and giggles.
"You spoil her too much," Kaz complained, brushing his hair back, but there was no mistaking the ghost of a smile as he watched his daughter eat.
Padjen clucked her tongue at Kaz in vexation. "And what do you call buying her her own gondol equipped with its very own grisha security spells, jamatr?" The Suli word for son-in-law.
Kaz raised a careful eyebrow. "Cautious." But there was a pleased air to the gesture. He'd never admit it, but he enjoyed the title.
The little girl in Padjen's arms began to squirm excitedly, her face now coated in sugar and jam. "Guess what Papa said he's going to get me next, Makta!" The little squirmed her way successfully out of her grandmother's arms and was flying back towards her father. She landed with a whump against him, bouncing excitedly up and down as she gazed up at him adoringly.
"Now-" He began, looking conspiratorially down at his daughter.
“I spoil her,” Padjen huffed under her breath sarcastically. "Let me guess," she harrumphed, turning her back on them to attend to the skillet bread dough. "A pony? A ballet troupe? An island?"
Padjen heard the door to the kitchen re-open.
"Papa promised to get me my own knives!" The little one announced proudly to Padjen's absolute and utter horror. She turned swiftly, but Brekker had already retreated up the hallway.
“Kaz Brekker!” Padjen called after him helplessly. He’d known she wouldn’t leave the skillet bread dough unattended. It had been his idea to make it, but Padjen, whatever she wanted to say, loved to spoil her daughter as much as Kaz Brekker did.
***
"What was all that about?" Inej had just been about to go see what all the ruckus in the kitchen had been about when Kaz had suddenly appeared in the doorway.
"Your mother isn't very happy about the knives." He said almost carelessly as he shrugged out of his coat.
"My knives?"
"The little knives." Kaz nodded discreetly at the case stored in secret across the way.
"What about them?" Inej demanded, affronted.
"I don't think she wants her to have them."
Kaz shucked off his gloves where they joined his coat in a heap on the chaise. He leaned down and kissed Inej deeply.
"Of course my daughter is going to have knives." Inej said, offended, as soon as their lips parted.
“She’s your mother,” Kaz shrugged, but his lips tugged at the corners as he parted to go greet Jesper and Wylan.
Inej blanched. “She likes you better.” She called after him, but he only laughed dismissively.
Later, sitting around the fire in the garden, surrounded by her family and closest friends - really, all family - Inej found herself full and satisfied.
“This is the best thing I’ve ever had in my mouth,” Nina was cooing, cradling the remains of a golden mango and ignoring Matthias’ glare.
Inej giggled and had to silently agree. She was about to get up to get another serving when a shadow fell over her. She looked up and her lips broke into a grin. Kaz was balancing their child on one hip and a tray of mango slices in his other hand, accompanied by salt, chili and lemon, just as she liked.
“Mmm,” Inej said as way of thanks, taking the tray.
Kaz dropped to the stool next to hers, swinging their child around to his lap.
“Mama, you’ve already had four,” the little girl trilled, holding up three chubby little fingers.
Inej captured the tiny hand and brought it to her lips. “And I shall have more,” she pretend to gobble down the tiny little hand to the joyous shrieking, giggling and running away that usually accompanied such an attack. The little girl sprinted to her grandmother to seek refuge, laughing all the way.
“You’re lucky you claimed Brekker first,” Nina was lamenting, jealously eyeing Inej’s tray.
Kaz scoffed at her side, but Inej took up one mango slice and leaned over across the way. “Here.” She said, feeding it to her friend. Nina’s face was rapturous.
“You were right, it’s so much better with lemon.” Then Nina was trouncing across the yard, Matthias at her heels, to get her own tray of similarly decorated mango.
Inej grinned, placing another slice of mango between her lips. The sticky juice, cool and sweet, ran down her chin. Her eyes met Kaz’s. Then, one long, pale finger came to her jaw, hesitated and then swiped gently at the juice.
Inej stared at his face, soft as it was for all its hard edges, and was lost for a moment.
“Thank you.” She murmured, wanting to kiss him deeply, wanting more, and knowing it wasn’t the time. She was thankful for more than the gesture, for more than the fruit, and it was enough that he knew that.
“For what?” His lips twitched and she elbowed him lightly before plucking up another mango slice.
Inej had mentioned it in passing, years ago. Her favorite fruit. It had still been a delicacy then, something she hadn’t had but had craved since childhood.
She had blinked long and slow when the first shipment of golden mangoes had arrived at their doorstep not long after. He pretended not to have known what she’d been so excited about. But when she’d served herself a mango, cut into slices and smothered in lemon, salt and chili, he had thereafter ensured no shortage of all four items in their pantry.
“What?” Kaz asked, uncertainty painting his voice as he watched her watched him with what could be nothing less than longing and love.
That boy would bring you the sun if he thought it would make you happy, her mother had once told her after Kaz had gifted her a particularly expensive new knife.
That’s impossible, Mama, Inej had replied, laughing.
Exactly, her mother had said, something all knowing in her eyes.
“I have a gift for you,” Inej said suddenly.
Kaz’s left eyebrow tilted dangerously. “On the day of your birth celebration?”
Inej nodded and absently placed the tray down on the floor at her side, her craving for mango forgotten. She turned slightly to take hold of a package she’d hidden under the fabric of her stool.
Kaz’s face was cautious, careful and curious all at once. “What is it?” He asked as she placed it in the open palms of his hands. The package was light as a feather.
“Open it,” Inej barely breathed at him.
With the quick help of his deft graceful hands, Kaz plied the box open- and froze.
His eyes slowly found Inej’s again.
Inside the box was the tiniest hat, an exact replica of the one Kaz wore every day. An exact replica of the one he’d asked Inej to buy him all those years ago.
His eyes darted to her flat stomach where her hand had rested absently. “Are you sure?” He asked, fighting a smile, but it was a losing battle as Inej said-
“Yes, my darling Kaz, treasure of my heart.” Inej had meant to mock those words he’d spoken to her all those years ago, but her heart felt too full of love, she could almost not speak.
Kaz barked a surprising laugh, and all heads around the fire turned to look at them. It was a pity, as Inej wanted nothing more than to lean forward in that instant and kiss him silly. But Kaz had never been one for public displays of-
The thought was chased from Inej’s head in an instant when Kaz brought his lips crashing down on hers.
“Oi, save some sugar for the rest of us!” She heard Jesper crow at them distantly.
***anyway, food is my love language, and i adore mangoes, and my headcanon is that inej would too, so kaz would stop at nothing to get them for her. and also all the crows’ palates became more refined once inej’s mom showed up. they only eat the very best now 🥺 and she was horrified that all they were subsisting on before was waffles and hutspot***
