Mafia 1 chatting again because .. I gotta say something about the perspective of one of my favorite youtubers who played it. He stressed me out BAD y'all .. as usual, spoiler under the cut.

Okay, so. I'm not an expert on the game or just the genuine mafia either. HOWEVER, I watched my favorite youtuber play the first one because I'm not playing it anytime soon. I feel as though the plot went entirely over his head. This isn't meant to attack him AT all because this stuff happens. There's people who didn't understand these games or just complex games in general. It happens with every game. However, the way he went about switching up on the characters was pissing me off badly. He mainly consisted of entirely glazing Don Salieri at a constant while wondering how Tommy could ever betray the family. Asking this question in the beginning whilst they show you nothing but the "good" things so far makes sense, but he really wasn't getting it. Tommy gives you his story because you need to listen to him. You are the cop and you are Tommy. You play as him, but you are entirely unable to change his story. You can't change something that's already happened. You are a listener. You're being asked to carefully listen to his story because he needs someone to know what's happened.

Tommy tells us at the beginning of the game that he is an immigrant to this country. He depicts how America is. Immigration was fully open, but the opportunities were entirely poor for immigrants. Tommy takes time to learn the language and has to live poorly as his father suffers through hard labor that barely pays anything. This is how America is. Tommy cannot put in an application to an Ivy league, get a degree, and be some banker. These positions are not open to him. They are closed to a lot of different types of immigrants. What irks me is if we know the history of America. The slave labor that black people had to go through way before this, you'd know the absolute cruelity of America. The racism, oppression, and unwillingness to help marginalized people. The want for "cheap" labor.

What does he do? Become a taxi driver. It's all he really can do, and it's not going to pay the bills enough. Then he meets Sam and Paulie. The funny thing is, this didn't even start with them. Not really. It started with Don Salieri and Don Morello. It will not end with them. You help Sam and Paulie get away, which later causes Tommy to be attacked. Under pure coincidence, he ends up at Don Salieri's door. He starts to work for the Don, like many do for better money, better living standards. HOWEVER, you see through the closest partners you have - through SAM AND PAULIE that this life takes a toll. You are told by the Don's closest friend, Frank Colletti, that he doesn't care who he has to hurt to get what he wants. To do what he wants. And you legitimately wonder why he's in front of a cop, disheveled after the number of times he's zoned out?? After he has blatantly hesitated at the act of having to kill someone. After all the people he's killed?

That's where you get wrapped in just like him, all the shooting, sitting there feeling powerful. You get distracted because you don't consider the innate trauma of the situation. Even when you have a wife to go home to, do you recall seeing her much? The family is their life. They don't go home to anyone. Not nearly enough as they should. Sam doesn't have a girlfriend or a wife. Paulie actively tells you he has no one at the age of 40 something. They got the nice suits and the money, but their lives are NOT normal. And you can't leave.

Paulie tried, and he was murdered. You had to kill your friend Sam for it. You don't see a pattern in this? In the evidence of other games? This doesn't end. Not after you've gotten involved. The fatal flaw is the want for a better future. A better life in a system that wants you gone. This goes deeper than even the Mafia itself. This is a system that's been set up. Many communities have something similar. Something that ropes you in because you don't have better opportunities. He does this because he has a family he loves. So no, he's not a hero to some. But at least in the end, he could be to his family. They're safe now.

It's someone else's time, Tommy isn't here anymore. It doesn't end with him. It never was supposed to. It's a cycle. It'll keep happening because there are no corrections in place. Not even prison can stop it. Everything stays, no one leaves. No one really can.

Because if you leave, Don Salieri sends his regards.

was recently rewatching this scene and… god the way ford looks at him here…

it’s this level of softness we don’t really see on him a lot in his next few episodes, especially when he’s interacting with stan. like yeah, in a moment here he’ll tell stan he needs to get out of his house by the end of the summer, but its like he’s giving himself a second to really take in the sight of his brother. it’s been 30 years. he’s seeing him again for the first time in decades, they’ve both grown and aged without each other. ford just told stan he looks like their dad and he’s watching as stan denies it and laughs and elbows him like the old days, and for a moment ford just looks at him. with this gentleness. he forgets to be mad just to soak in the reality that he’s here again. with stan.

it’s shortlived obviously. and his grudge kicks in a minute later as the extra reality that his house has been transformed into a tourist trap and his identity has been stolen sets in. but that small moment :( ugh how much he must’ve missed him :( it kills me :((

Which means they know cold at its best definition and they both know how to deal with it.

You, on the other hand, don't (Or at least, if you're like me).

Whenever the cold would hit the city (which is often for someone who lives in a place with a lot of heat), you would have to wear lots of layers to stay warm for a while, and that's if it's not as windy., because if it is, you'd have to try and shield your face and neck, with scarves and hats.

Now, Wade and Logan are basically human heaters. I feel like if you simply hold their hands during the cold, their body heat will eventually warm your whole arms and maybe the rest of your body. I like to think they always, ALWAYS, no matter what, try to keep you warm.

What I like thinking about the most is how warm you'd be when you sleep sandwiched between them, especially during the winter. Just imagine...

It's a cold winter night. The windows are closed as everything inside the apartment (imagine they live with you instead of Blind Al) is calm. The three of you are asleep. Logan is cuddling you from behind and Wade is clinging into you from the front, the bed around you turned into a kind of nest. Sleeping between them is enough for you to ditch the winter pajamas (or pajamas in general) because they're so warm. It's so comfortable that you'll never want to leave, and they won't either <3

But you continue, grabbing his shoulders and gently squeezing, trying to get his stubborn muscles to relax.

Law doesn’t exactly acknowledge you, at least not with words. He’ll sigh and lean a tiny bit into your hands, to attempt to let you know he likes it.

The first couple of times you thought he wanted to push you away, so you would retreat and drop it.

but one day law started staring at his figures, and you walked in. you didnt come close, since you wanted to respect his space.

but law grumbled, turned to you, and said "my shoulders hurt."

you just stared back at him, unsure of why he would sudden- oh

you laughed a little, to his protest, and walked over to start massaging his shoulders.

he stopped whatever mumbling had been going on and sighed in relief, saying how he felt like a kid throwing a fit.

you chuckle, and answer with something about how he was acting like a kid.

but every time he stared at his collections, or you wrote in your journal, you both were there.

ok to make things clear (noone asked) i think medic has some form of DID. i also think he experiences hallucinations as a form of PTSD flashbacks very often. i think there is a scared little boy in his head that just wants to be safe, and his name is Günter, too.

I think Dell was always supposed to be a father. There was a woman, back in Texas, a real belle, he'd left behind to join the war front. Right there, Bee Cave, she rests, buried alongside the memories of children Dell would never get to have.

The others don't quite get along the way he and medic do. They just don't get it, the science. Dell has little appreciation for the man himself; a crazed lunatic, a villain, but he's long by now come to respect the man's work.

Even before meeting Dr Ludwig in person, Dell vaguely remembers seeing his face in a magazine. A traveler'd brought it in, from overseas, and Dell had pinned it up in his workshop, though it'd been buried behind blueprints and letters. A branch he hadn't looked into much- bio, flesh and blood, reinvented by a young jewish upstart in Germany, of all places.

He wonders what happened, watching Günter bent over the trash can, illuminated by the kitchen's overhead light.

A whine escapes the medic, followed closely by a soft hiccup. Reminiscent of a child Dell never knew, and the sound of a little sniffle squeezed painfully at his heart.

"Günt?" Hes surprised by the croak in his voice, but noones more startled by the man himself, who shoots up so hard it looks painful.

"Ja, ach-" He spits into the can, staggers away like its lining had burned him, and runs a shaking hand through his greying hair. His movements are quick, lost, frantic in a way. Dell raises his hands, like approaching a scared animal, and steps forward with great hesitation.

"s'alright, bud, what's got you goin'?" His voice softens, quiet enough to hear the way Günter's breath hitches. The medic's lip shakes, and he points vaguely in the direction of the large round table in the center of the kitchen. Dell leans forward to get a closer look at what's got his friend so distraught, a packet of meat defrosting for tomorrow's dinner.

"What, the meat?"

He thinks it's a bit silly, but realizes with slow horror. Not even heavy knew of the horrors of the camps, he can only imagine what's running through the medic's head.

Günter nods frantically, looking green in the face.

Dell catches his eye, puts his hands on his shoulders, dragging the medic back to the present.

Somewhere, hidden in those eyes, Dell sees Günter for who he really is. A small, scared child, curled up in a cattle car on his way to the butcher.

Dell never had children of his own.

Thomas and Gordon rambles that turned into 1x4

I really like their Alliance and want to explore that a bit. Like in them getting along better, obviously, helping each other out on jobs, being able to communicate better and sort out whatever fights they may have together, supporting each other through the crisis (wars, end of steam, covid,) and growing closer all throughout.

And to go further, they have jobs they do together, or maybe Gordon lets it slip that he likes quiet work so Thomas invites him to shunt or do something like that. And Gordon’s mellowed so he’s like “that’s alright with me,” and so they go shunting every now and then and chat, joke around, gossip and whatnot.

My AU and 1x4

(Mind you I see them as being similar mental ages, think early-late mid twenties.)

So in my au, when they get human bodies they’ll grab coffee or cakes from wherever, play with cats, watch movies, read books together…

Thomas loves contact, like hugs or slinging his arms over people but respects that Gordon isn’t very comfortable with openly showing affection, at least for now. That gives Gordon the agency and room to give his own shy affections out (in hand holding, shoulder pats, or just standing close,) and Thomas is thrilled. And they’re even happier together when they share a bed for plot reasons- I mean lodging complications.

They both dislike sleeping alone for one, and they compliment each others styles. Thomas sleeps close meaning Gordon won’t feel lonely, and Gordon hugs in his sleep which makes Thomas feel safe.

They grow close to each other, and support each other with their identities too. Gordon affirms Thomas’ enby-ness, helps them with fashion and checks in when Thomas is having a rough day. Thomas validates and encourages Gordon’s GNC-ness and helps him find confidence in it.

They talk about other personal subjects too, like their siblings or their feelings about their public lives or other stresses they may connect over. Or how they’ve kinda quit the dating scene for different and similar reasons.

A lot Gordon’s previous crushes are either with someone else or busy. Even if they aren’t, there’s either past bad blood or the risk of ending friendships that Gordon cherishes. As such, he’s moved past those crushes and decided to stay single.

Thomas has had his own (complicated,) crushes but realized early on he wasn’t ready for romance, at least not long lasting, and decided to stay single, though he’s a bit sad over that.

Thomas and Gordon connect over this, as it’s something they have in common, even for different reasons. It also stays between them, as these are super personal feelings and whatnot. So a sweet part of their relationship is them supporting each other through their singleness.

And they get closer and closer and at one point they’re out on a trip, Thomas notes it’s like a date and Gordon is like, “that does sound nice but I like this much better.”

Thomas is like, “you do?”

And Gordon’s like “yes. After all, if I went off on dates I couldn’t be here with you. We wouldn’t be able to talk like we have, and I‘d much rather have this.” With this warm smile on his face.

Thomas laughs (and blushes,) and says “I’m glad you think that Gordon. That makes me very happy!”

And it goes on. They fall in love, and it’s subtle and slow and sweet. They notice things about each other, go fishing together, chat about musicals or opera, tousle each others hair…

Then one day, on a nice afternoon, they’re alone in the sheds talking. It’s a lovely conversation and without realizing, they confess their love to each other. Then they realize just that and have this moment of “ohhh, we’re in love!”

And because they’ve grown and trust each other a lot, they’re quite mature about this, and decide to get together officially. There’s a bit of flustering and blushing, but they handle it very well. And since they were low key dating for months up until this point, not much changes aside from more snuggles.

Thomas and Gordon are very happy about this, so happy in fact, they forgot to share the news! Meaning everyone finds out 4 months late. They’ll notice new things about Thomas and Gordon’s behavior (laughing more, Gordon being all huggy, the two shunting together, little jokes from Thomas that sound oddly like bad flirting that Gordon is amused and fond for.) but might not put the pieces together cause what-are-the-odds-right?

Anyways, Thomas and Gordon like kisses. Forehead kisses, cheek kisses, quick-on-the-lip-before-i-miss-my-train-kisses and whatnot. And they both wear lipstick so they leave stains. Usually they remember to wipe these off, but sometimes they forget. I imagine the reveal goes like this;

Percy: “Say Thomas, don’t those marks on your face look like Gordon’s lipstick?”

Thomas: “Yep! They’re all from him!”

Percy: “Ohh, I see.”

Gordon: “Oh dear, I didn’t realize how carried away I got, my apologies.”

A beat.

Edward: “I’m sorry?”

Thomas: “Hehe, no worries. I forgot to ask for the wipes after all-”

James: “Wait a minute-“

Gordon: “Say Thomas, did we not tell them-“

Everyone but Thomas and Gordon: “WHAT?!??”

*cue overlapping reactions while Gordon sighs and Thomas nervous chuckles.

Thomas: “didn’t we tell you? I thought you all knew hahaha 😅,”

Gordon: “It seems we got carried away dear Thomas.” *affectionate smile*

Once the initial shock is over, everyone concludes this was rather obvious and calms down. There’s teasing of course, but for the most part everyone is glad to see Thomas and Gordon so happy together.

Even if Gordon’s a cheesy romantic and Thomas a clumsy flirt.
