still haven't moved on from zane in this episode (aka I hit tag limit again and am unhappy about it)

#alek insanity #not gonna main tag this but prepare for a tiny rant #home is actually really good zane characterization and its super cool to me how it holds up to this day #s1 characterization is very specific to me because the behaviors displayed by the ninja there (mostly) isnt bc thats how they really are but #its due to societal pressure. cole originally being more 'stone faced tough guy' -> 'down to earth' -> 'really sensible easy to talk to guy'#is because hes always been a sensitive guy... but he felt he couldnt express that true version of himself. thats the whole thing behind his #true potential. jay going from s1 -> s6 -> now is less of societal pressure and more teenager figuring himself out but it still applies. ish #seeing how much the ninja have changed or grown from then to now is amazing because back then they all wore masks. they didnt know each #other all that well. but theyve gained that comfortability with each other and also have grown and matured as people #some seasons / eps characterization for certain people im not a fan of (lloyds random misogyny arc in s13) but i mean the overall trend here #and then there is zane. zane in home was pretty dead on to how he behaves now (at least... when it comes to his faults?) and i dont want to #say people skim over that but i am the sf proclaimed n1 s1e2 fan and overthink every scene. zane's early characterization is some of my fav #for him period. he also goes through a ton of traumatic stuff and a ton of bad writing bouts but why he acts so 'weird' or 'distant' has #always been a thread sewn in. he changed so much he stayed the same in a way... if that makes sense. -> ohhh the ninja get mail and he #doesnt? oh he has no family? he quite literally walks away from that situation. oh the ninja are yelling in his face and asking whats wrong #with him? he literally walks away from that situation. he says its to follow the falcon but seeing how he apologized to them by not only #baking a ton of pies (cough... the food fight is what led to him leaving at first) but he also found them a whole entire new house.#zane is unable to truly value what he does for others. insert him in s11 saying he 'tried' to fufill his goal of protecting others.#everything he has ever done still isnt good enough. then the ninja tried to apologize and he didnt really... let them.#that one post about characters putting on facades and that facade being how people really see them. even in fandom. thats zane to me #the guy who lies about being upset and avoids his problems ran away after being yelled at? and he said he wasnt really mad? that is a lie!!#him being a ~360 when it comes to his character development is neat to me because he never hid behind a mask in the same way the others did #cole wanting to seem tough vs being really soft? kai wanting approval so bad he starts being selfish? kai isnt selfish usually!#he is self centered but that is a whole different thing. just wanting to fit in and breaking free of that. zane's true potential came in the #form of 'i finally know why i am not normal' instead of 'i will be my true self'. zane never pretended to not be weird #(instert book) states he literally didnt know why people got mad at him. he just existed and it was 'wrong'. the mask he hid behind was #avoidance. he was pretty open about how he actually was (most of the time). when he was upset he would audibly sigh and walk away lol #but for him saying he wasnt upset / saddened by the ninja... it felt like a moment of selflessness. if that makes sense. he blamed himself #for the monestary burning down. so he didnt deserve the apologies (ish) in the virtues of spinjitzu zane is shown as the generous one iirc #he puts the needs of others over his own. he will bear whatever burden he needs if others are happy. at that same time he doesnt allow

i made what i think will be a baklava to blow my tits clean off today . proud of myself

reciple

syrup:

100g white sugar

100g water

around 1 cup honey (much better to use nice honey like wildflower etc instead of generic stuff - it really improves the flavor)

2 whole cloves

a few cardamom pods

1-1 1/2 tsp rose water (to taste)

put the water and sugar along with the spices onto a pan on the stove and heat it until the sugar dissolves. then add the honey and rose water and simmer until it reaches a sufficiently thick consistency. let cool completely.

filling:

6oz each walnuts, hazelnuts, and pistachios, chopped fine (you can change the ratios of different nut types around if you want)

around 50g butter

1/2 cup brown sugar

1tbsp cinnamon

pinch of ground cloves

pinch of salt

chop or food process the nuts until they are in small pieces. it's not strictly necessary, but you can also toast them lightly in the oven either before or after you chop them.

then add the sugar, spices, and salt, and the butter. mix until well combined.

pastry:

1 package of store bought filo pastry. you know im not making that shit myself

assemble the pastry by cutting the filo into the shape of your baking vessel, then begin by laying down a layer of filo, then coating the top with melted butter. repeat this until you have around 6-8 layers of filo. then add half the filling and smooth it out on top of the pastry. add another 6-8 layers of the dough, then add the rest of the filling on top of this. then add your remaining 6-8 layers of filo on top, brushing the very topmost one with melted butter also. then cut the baklava into slices before baking.

bake at 175 c/350 f for around 35 minutes.

pour the syrup onto the hot pastry right after it comes out of the oven.

#i made it cause one of the societies at my university has a baking contest #and i like stuff like that even though i dont really like the peoplein the society all that much. and dont go to many meetings anymore #loser fridays #i think its important that you add the syrup to it hot because thats what prevents it from getting soggy (?) either that or it makes the #pastry actually absorb the syrup instead of just getting coated in it on the outside #i think my stroke of genius was the rose water in the syrup though tbh. im not sure if its like. usually done or anything (i feel like it #might be?) but in combination with a good wildflower honey its so good. it tastes like nectar from a flower #at least i like it. though i do like 'perfumey'/floral flavors more than most i think

perhaps the reason why aup ended like *that* is because it was not supposed to have a happy ending in the first place, but sayren didnt have the guts to deal with readers' backlash for when they finally kill off the main character so a half baked happy ending is what we get 😔

#for a happy ending of a story to be narratively satisfying the characters gotta actively work hard for it #this happy ending feels empty because quite frankly speaking ludger did nothing to deserve it #he has zero character developments from the beginning to the end and has always been the same #well except for his emotional state getting worse over time #bc instead of making any attempt at all to healthily address it like a mentally mature 40yo adult he let it swallow him whole #(not that im necessarily blaming him but its quite frustrating to see him remain unchanged if aup is meant to be a redemption story)#his OPness is inherent #his genius is inherent #(this is not to say he isnt hardworking / only relying on his inborn talents but the author repeatively failed the 'show dont tell' checks)#(bc it was only implied in the past and we've never truly seen it in the canon present timeline either)#his kindness is inherent #ngl dad!ludger content doesnt appeal to me as much as dad!edgeworth cuz the latter is the fruit of the character's growth and hard labor #while the former is well... its just who he is #usually i love found family content but in aup it bores my mind out bc his interactions w the students + owens are so static & predictable #it was heartwarming at the moment of adoption but later on i find it as tedious as reading generic established romantic relationships #was it because of the lack of tensions and conflicts i wonder #they all became his yes men and no one ever actively challenged his unhealthy mindset or behaviors #anyway id have been more interested if he recognized his biases/favoritism/prejudices towards some certain characters & worked to change it #but welp. that would require character growth which is too much to expect from him ig #he has learnt quite nothing from his journey and tbh aup would ironically feel more meaningful if it ended on a tragic note #ofco i got noblesse'd again 😔#would i kill for aup to have a happy ending? yes #would i rather have a sad ending over the half baked and empty good ending we get? also yes #if it must burn then let the whole world burn. cuz at least it would be more much memorable and impactful that way #and i wouldnt have to feel this disappointed and lose all of my interests in one of my only two beloved aroace MCs in aup </2 #rant

i. get the vibe that the more mainstream zelda fans are allergic to the idea of liking characters who like. do bad things

#the groups and works i avoid are ones that make characters who do generally questionable things into morally good/perfect people #idk. whenever people get nasty or w/s it seems to be when people ask reasonable questions abt the series’ morality #recent example in mind but like. idk. with more personal/petty examples i feel like people will just sand a character down to being nicer #or more decent to fit some mold and maybe while its still similar to canon its a lot less interesting #idk this is just a mini rant ill delete it later. god forbid we enjoy characters who make bad choices and are mean #idk i dont usually leave my little hole but it feels like the worst zelda fans are deep in purity culture regarding characters #and don’t analyze the text beyond what youre told and never going any deeper bc it would require thought and discomfort #idk ig with [character] (cuz i know thisll get picked ul by tag stuff) i just. dont like how he just gets turned into a decent guy?#like hes an asshole but thats it hes more pleasant than anything? its not not canon but its not interesting. its neuters him #yknow? like hes down for robbing people at the bare minimum shut uo about tax fraud he’s a thief literally in the text #im going off the rails. bht i feel like people lash out at characters who are unignorably grating or morally impure #and sand down the ones whose flaws can be ignored. ofc i feel like the main 3 esp with these last few games get the worst of it #and i can get why considering the issues baked into how this series work but it just makes a lot of things boring

haven't touched tumblr in like a week+ which is very out of character for me, but I've been busy being dysphoric, anxious, filled with wonder for the human expirence, and getting bit in the face by a dog,,,,,

made yummy yummy dinner i love cooking for my family and friends

#it was crunchy baked hot honey chicken #soooooo good.#i may have made it a little bit too hot tho lol the sriracha overpowered the honey a bit #thinking about cooking for the holidays this year...#i wanna be in charge of desserts bc im not huge on thanksgiving food #i enjoy the holiday bc i love my family and we all get together but the food is. eh #its a lot of stuff mashed together which is not my kinda scene so i usually just end up eating rolls #hmmmm. maybe a pie. maybe my world famous cheesecake...#i've been really wanting to make beignets but i can't find peanut oil in portions less than a gallon #maybe i buy the gallon and just make a LOT of beignets. start a temporary beignet business
