Round 2, Match 1: Ogai Mori vs. Pascal

Ogai Mori:

"Alright so Mori is a shady criminal underworld doctor who’s out here treating /looking after the sick boss of the Port Mafia. During this time he runs into this kid who tried to kill himself and treats him (because he’s a doctor and that’s what he does). This kid (Dazai) is HIGHLY suicidal and will Not Stop trying to kill himself. So Mori’s like “ok stick with me real quick” and takes him to visit the mafia boss. While they’re there Mori kills the boss and tells Dazai that’s he’s the only witness and the story they’ll tell is that the boss died of natural causes and made Mori his heir.

So the plan works and now Mori’s the mafia boss, plus he’s looking after this very suicidal teen on the side. Meanwhile someone (Chuuya) is out there single-handedly destroying the entire mafia. So Mori looks into it on his own and goes “oh that’s a teenager! Around the same age as my boy! Imma capture him and force them to be friends! :)” So he does, but they (Chuuya and Dazai) HATE each other. Absolutely despise each other’s very existence. So Mori’s like “well if I force them to work together forever, then they’ll HAVE to get along!!”

Anyway his two boys become the most powerful duo in the canon lore of this animanga.

Eventually Dazai leaves the mafia because his friend dies while doing mafia work. Very tragic, Mori still talks to him like he’s his estranged son that he wants a relationship with. Mori and Chuuya don’t interact much in the main manga but in all the bonus material he’s definitely very parental to him. Specifically the aquarium side story from mayoi— sure that was a job but iirc he kept telling Chuuya to relax and just enjoy going on a fun aquarium trip."

Blue period 11

I didn't think I'd be reviewing manga, and I probably won't, but this one I have to do.

(If the art doesn't have credits underneath, its by the author; Tsubasa Yamaguchi)

In case you don't know, Blue period (1) is a manga by Tsubasa Yamaguchi about Yatora Yaguchi, a highschool student, who gets inspired and finds passion for art. He wants to get into one of the best art schools in Japan, since it's one of the few school (if not the only one) that's not private.

In volume 11 tho, We're at a part where Yaguchi is in uni but needs money, so he gets a job at a community art class with kids.

(I rate comics/graphic novels/manga a bit differently. Enjoyability > actual quality. Shitty way to rate ik but who cares🤷‍♀️)

Spoilers ahead!!!

What makes this volume so special? Well it's not in a school setting. The whole art uni thing is very stressful to both the reader and the characters. Since it's spring(?) break, Yaguchi doesn't have to do any art. But this is still a manga about art. But this one focuses more on one's relationship with their art and others' art. And any artist has experience with that. Alot of people hate their art, and honestly I do too.

Since I like parting things, the book has 2 parts, each is focused on one kid in the art class.

Shoya

Shoya is bored in the class. He has trouble finishing his assignments, he's mean towards his classmates (and Yaguchi) and violent. Yaguchi tries his best to make Shoya interested but it just doesn't work. One day Shoya's mother comes to pick Shoya up from the class, when she sees Shoya's painting, she says:

,,What's so great about this painting? It doesn't look like he did that good of a job to me..."

Which is, you know, Something to say to a 5 year old. Shoya is understandibly not happy about that. But one day, Yaguchi finds him playing some games while walking home. And Yaguchi finds out Shoya is really good at drawing mechs. He talks to the teacher, and Shoya can draw whatever he wants to in class! Yayyy. He also makes this football game for their exhibition. Shoya's thing is that he doesn't enjoy art because he knows what he likes. No one enjoys drawing everything.

Sae

Sae has alot of passion for art. But she has alot of other classes. Even though Sae has barely any time to play with her friends, she still paints at home. And I mean this girl loooves painting. Well until her dad points at another painting (which as far as i know, wasn't even made by a child) and says:

,,Oh, that kid's painting is really good! How about trying to do something like that?"

We're back to this point, where the kids' confidence and how they think about themselves and their art is very much connected to how other people see it.

She starts comparing herself to the other kids. Hashida (who also works there now lol) also notices her painting has changed. When he says he likes her painting, she says:

,,Thank you, Hashida-sensei! But it's not good at all. Im worse than Shikahara-san. Ahhh. Why am I so bad...? I want to get better. I've been practicing so much, too..."

AND I HAVE NEVER RELATED TO A 5 YEAR OLD MORE. Like this young girl is already at this part of making art. Me and my art teacher actually talked about this, and she said this change from having fun with art to being critical of it happens around/after the age of 10.

The kids will have an exhibition! And one day in class, they present their art to the class. When they're presenting, Shoya compliments her painting. And I'll just write down the whole presentation.

,,My painting... is bad because the subjects are small. The colours are dull, too. And the bear looks messed up. It's creepy, crappy and just awful. Why is it... that I can only make something like this? Shoya-kun went out of his way to say something nice about my work... but... he can do that because he's better than me. How nice! How nice that everyone's great at art. [...] I dont wanna do this anymore! [...] My colours are messier than Miku-chan's! I can't draw mechs like Shoya-kun! I can't make cute paintings like Yuichi-kun! I cant paint like Shikahara-san! How nice that everyone's great at art!"

And after that I took a 20sec break ;P!

As far as i know, there are 2 ways people can react to making art around others. You either envy their work and take it as a learning experience to appreciate their art. But I, someone who's about to do entrance exams into art school, cant afford to do that. Or you can just fall apart under the pressure of "everyone is better than me". And it's easy to do that when you have a goal and everyone could be your enemy. You cant appreciate their art and love art together. Because they're better than you and you have to get better. Art isn't about how much you study. Art is about how passionate you are. How much you want to make art. If you hate everything you make, is there a reason to keep doing art? For some yes. For some no.

Sae quit the art class.

Before she does, Hashida asks her to do a collab. They just paint random things. React to the other's painting. Hashida says this (I'm sorry for so many quotes but they really stuck with me srryyy):

,,I'm actually bad at making art. I love art. I love people who make art and i make art myself, but the more I get to know other people who make art... the more is makes me think I can't go as far as them. I respect people who can keep their brush moving with tears in their eyes. I think you're truly amazing for jumping into painting like you did. Even when you feel miserable or think you have no reason to praise your own work."

Which again. SAME. Back to parents, when Sae shows the painting to her dad, he tears it in the half to give half to Hashida. They stick it back together. But you know...

SOMEWHERE IN THE BOOK HASHIDA ASKS YAGUCHI TO GO TO SWITZERLAND, ITALY AND GERMANY WITH HIM AND I HOPE HE ACCEPTS CUZ I LOVE HASHIDA AND HES SO INTERESTING. PLEASEEEEEEE.

If I read this volume without the other 10, I'd probably think it was just kids and being whinny about art. But when you read through so much of the stuff these people go through just to make art. And how they struggle. When out of nowhere, its like 'I fucking hate this'. This book just keeps you think 'Why? Why? Why? Why do they do that? Why dont they just quit?'. And your relationship with your art and art overall is important. It's not like you can look past the fact that you fucking hate what you just did and hate that you're only capable of such a bad thing. Art you create is often hard to love, especially when its competitive.

But art is still art. And it's such a pity that people who would love art and creating it crumble under the pressure of others.

Be gentle and loving to yourself and your art.

And perhaps after spending so much time with him, with them, that it made you stray away from that idea of something "normal" that you had imagined so long ago. When you did, he was always in it.

The disheveled and dirtied state he was in and his cross laid out beside him as the knuckles of his cut-up hands were close to knocking on your door before he slowly turned towards you, having heard your steps in the sand.

Your blood went cold, feeling a knife stab right into your stomach as you just stood there. The realization dawning upon you, eyes slowly widening at the prospective of what had come about of your lover.

But how couldn't you recognize that soft gaze of blue, the messy blonde hair and pink slippers on his scarred feet? Vash tiredly smiled up at you, tilting his head to the side as he looked you up and down.

God how could he smile after so much?

His pink cheeks had sullen, the purple bags under his eyes prominent as the exhaustion was obvious, but he kept that same kind smile after everything he had gone through.

"You look goo- WOAH!" He gaped out in surprise, quickly throwing his arms wide open to catch your figure as you threw yourself at him and into a tight hug, pushing the both of you guys back onto the olden couch.

And before you knew it, the both of you had cuddled up against each other on said couch as you held Vash's head up against your chest, the pads of your fingers soothing the side of his cheek as you rested your chin on top of his head.

"Oh Vash..." You quivered, trying hold back the tears in your eyes as you felt his arms around your waist tighten, the blanket the two of you had been wrapped in rustling as he brought himself in closer.

The weight on his chest hurt, and it felt so heavy.

"I'm sorry." He choked out as you felt tads of wetness on your shirt, his sobs filling the emptiness of the air as his rough hands gripped the back of your shirt in desperation.

It didn't matter how hot the bare skin of his chest felt under the blanket, nor did it matter if the elbows and knees of his body ached and the spine of his back felt like needles.

You're the closest to comfort and peace he's had in the last 7 months, and he couldn't let you go.

"Don't apologize. I..I don't think you really know how happy I am to have you back." You cried, finally broking down, leaving kisses on the top of his head as he continued to wail against your chest "I would've been so lost..."

'You felt like home.' And you always did. Vash shut his eyes as the two of you stayed entangled together for the next few hours.

Having cried, talked about what had happened in the last 7 months, and the future before drifting off to sleep on the very couch.

Under the blanket of love, did two lovers finally reunite before the tribulations that had occurred and were to come.

how does the Golden Kamuy anime compare to the manga? I'd like to get into it but is it better to read the manga instead?

im very biased towards the manga! the anime cuts some storylines/side stories that were in the manga for the sake of runtime. imo i think the omitted content is super worth reading and will give fuller context for character arcs and developments that happen in the story. also, noda's artwork is sooo dynamic and gorgeous 🫶 the anime does the best as it can with production constraints but trust me, the manga experience is much more fulfilling both in terms of visuals and story 🥹

i still enjoy the anime tho! the voice casting is sooo spot on 😍 please read it but if you decide to watch it instead, don't let the cgi bears drive u away HAHA (u will see what i mean)

Who are your fave and least fave fkmtverse characters?

the first that came to mind was hyoudou senior i just dont enjoy seeing him on screen very much and i think hes boring & annoying as a character. hes fine in middle management blues tonegawa cause then its a comedy manga & we poke fun at him but like as an Antagonist in Best Gambling Manga Ever Made Kaiji Part One its like. i just dont want him ever having the spotlight for more than than a single plotbeat at a time. im less scared thinking about "what if the ending of kaiji ruins all of my analysis so far?" than when i read people talk about hyoudou being the final antag of part 7. this is my 1 singular fear but this being said, im fine with hyoudou existing. hes not that bad. the one in zero was worse and by "the one in zero" i do mean theres at least 3 (?) of them and theyve merged into 1 singular existence in my memory. im sick of them. can we stop? it makes me appreciate how fucking awesome washizu is when i see fkmt utterly fail at writing any other good character w this archetype. what did he put in washizu that made him awesome? mahjong?

i typed too much about hyoudou but i still wanna mention some absolute FLOPS of fkmt characters like the protagonist from RUDE 39 (the pachinko manga fkmt did) katagiri yuuji... whys he named the exact same thing as the protag of t*m*dachi game? RED FLAG. i actively rooted for his ruin the entire time i read that one. i dislike him greatly. can we kill him? in a similar vibe i just cannot like nikaido of hell golf fame. initially i wanted him put in a death game cause thats just what i like reading about but it progressively grew into a need to see him suffer horribly on screen. i need him tortured and NOT mentally the psychological torture of being a loser is NOT enough for him i need him in REAL ACTUAL HELL. im still keeping w the nikaido chapters tho

my blogging may sound like i hate miyoshi greatly also but thats all in jest & good fun hes a good antagonist and a good punching bag. its very fun and enjoyable to go "miyoshi sucks miyoshi should die me and my friends wouldve killed miyoshi with hammers" which makes him a GOOD character i enjoy. hes awesome. hes my singular favorite example of hte trope of "the protags friend betrays them in the death game" its so masterfully pulled. miyoshis awesome. & i love how they wrote him in life in tokyo ichijou LOL hes also very important for kaijis depth of character- heres a guy he saved who then backstabs him. does he still believe in trust? is he still incapable of (direct) violence? and paves the way for part 4+5. miyoshis awesome. hes not top 3 favorites tho. hes just an honorable mention i guess

as mentionned i love washizu also hes my grandpa and i love him. also i love akagi hes my one singular favorite fkmt character its not even close no elaboration needed. i enjoy & love & think about all the akagi characters, banger after banger, urabe u are so funny, and so on. one year ill remember to celebrate yukio day properly. lets move on

SAHARA i love sahara an abnormal amount ive just made up so much shit about him that is real to me n then i read part 1 again n i dont notice that theres very little supporting my vision. but im RIGHT. he begged to be in the death game. he BEGGED to be in the DEATH GAME over being a WORKER. this dude rocks. i know in my heart that he loves gorey movies and he laughs when the characters die & his favorite movie is funny games but he disagrees w everyones analysis of it he just thinks its a fun movie? its a fun time? i also love endou & have similarly made shit up about him to meeeee he got broken up w between part 1 and 2 and htis explains literally everything about him. the way he yells at kaiji in the bathroom is just him projecting his frustration & anger he had with his ex. its NOT about kaiji. it simply makes sense.

uhm this is already too long but i didnt even get to ten. i love ten dearly. i also enjoy mamiya greatly as a character shes funny & a very interesting protagonist for a psychological, hot mahjong action work. her kinda character would be more usually seen in comedy slice of lifey mahjong (like penchan!) so its interesting. its fun. its new

in conclusion i like the characters that are good and dislike the ones who are suck

webtoons I've read recently that i enjoy!

I finally read our walk home! its rlly sweet and i cant wait for it to come off hiatus. i instantly got hooked by the characters. i like how its a they get eo thing and not an actual rivals to lovers thing. idk it feels more special. and the characters mentalities being explored is sooo good man. im also curious on the lot abt the angel and devil + akis brother. on a side note if i were either of them id fold so quickly cause why they both so pretty. their interactions are so cute man. its soft, genuine. i like it.

peace restaurant. love it. was reading it and i was like damn fknally something that gives me what yohaji did (tho not the same obvi) it is only starting on en ver (7 free chaps iirc) and i was so hooked i ended up reading all the kr released chaps on aggregator sites. im so confused and sad bcs it stopped at chap 28 back in nov 2023. still its really good. i love the dynamic between sua, belial and nhedhuk. they are so found fam to me. like nhedhuk is obvi the younger sibling and belial is her older brother. sua is their unconventional mom. speaking of belial his development was really nice. the way his fear was all the ppl he cared abt dying (INCLUDING SUA AND NHEDHUK) im scared abt whats gonna happen with him with how 28 ended off tho 😅 i think i have a thing for op female mcs (ty bofuri) and also this is why for one of the very few times the mc is my fav chara followed closely by the 2 deuteragonists. comedy that grows plot gotta be my new fav thing. in the beginning tho i love how every time you think smth serious will happen its just another gag. anws the whole dimension ordeal is also cool.

ok this thing had me clicking from its artstyle. i think yohaji made me a comedy person cause this is a comedy as well. i continued reading the few short chaps cause it was silly and sweet. this ghost truly is just a kind and pathetic thing. the fact shes mute is also really nice as the creator actually competed twice and placed in silent manga competitions (which were really good btw. go check out volpee). when the managers were introduced i thought plot was coming but nope! but also i was even more hooked cause the design for mr. h??? love. the vibes and style is immaculate. the ghost of cloth is also really silly and has a nice design lol. there was no ep last month but its back on now! oh yeah the toy ghost is really cool as well. somehow they can still make it expressive despite its still face. the whole remote control car situation had me cackling tho lmao.

OH MY GOD PROJECT CAMELLIA HAS LIKE 6 EPS AND ONE IS A AUTHORS NOTE THING BUT DO I CARE??? NO. the pretty boy cover enticed me and im so glad it did bcs it seems so promising. the author note had stuff about their process and the future and the way they thought it through, how the 2 mcs change eo and it shows PHYSICALLY. in love. the way they plan to change the main mc throughout the story has me scared and excited. it seems like they can handle chara development well which is something i value highly as i read for charas most of the time. the art style is also really nice. if you check out the creators insta you can really see how skilled they are like the art there looks majestic (theyre a danmei fan). apparently therell also be a yuri side couple 👀 basically, the future seems bright for this webtoon.

i hust finished catching up to the tl ver of the students of illip arts high cause the en is new to webtoon just like peace restaurant. i was hooked by the unique style used for the vr game and how so yi and han sol bonded and allat. their relationship is so ough to me. dakyung is also a fun chara and for seiun idk she seems kinda pretentious. i dont like how they dealt with eppys chara either. still its early on so even though the charas besides mc seem to not have as much impact as they could it has much room to grow.

i needed a break from all the coding (i’m working on a Bocchi fan game), so im back to dumping headcanons and tropes on our favorite Kessoku Band

here’s some college era headcanons

Nijika and Kita-chan attend university (maybe different uni, maybe same, idk) while still managing their band practice and duties.

Bocchi achieved her dream of living off music, between Guitar Hero ad revenue and royalties from Kessoku Band’s albums (mild manga spoilers: a label had found interest in their music, so i imagine things kept snowballing from there)

Ryou also decided to live off making music, between Kessoku Band and royalty free music/sfx on various websites.

At some point, they all decided to live together. Maybe an apartment close to Nijika’s and Kita-chan’s campuses? And if it’s with the band, Bocchi wouldn’t have to deal with strangers.

Ryou wasn’t in on the plan initially, not until Nijika was sure she could trust Ryou to be responsible with money. But even when Kita-chan, Bocchi, and Nijika started living together, Nijika keeps randomly dropping by Ryou’s bedroom

(She just doesn’t want to admit she misses Ryou, okay?)

To help distract each other from their splurging-on-music-gear tendencies, Ryou and Bocchi experiment with non-music hobbies while Kita-chan and Nijika are at school or work.

The two idiots still end up spending a lot of money on their non-music experiments anyway xD

They stick with cooking/baking though, since they can’t expect Nijika to cook all the time with her already packed schedule.

(a bit of a sidebar: Ryou’s cooking has better flavor, but Bocchi is better at plating and presentation. Mostly because Ryou doesn’t bother and just scoops the food however which way onto the plate.)

Speaking of Nijika, she works on campus mostly for convenience. But sometimes she still works at Starry when she has time. She doesn’t have to work to visit her onee-chan, but she loves Starry too much to not work and interact with the customers there.

Meanwhile, Kita-chan does a lot of odd jobs for part-time work. She says it’s because she enjoys meeting and helping a lot of people. But maybe deep down, a subconscious part of her is still searching for that special talent she lacks.

At some point, Bocchi finds out about all this and points out that she’s not lacking anything, and that the bland ordinary life she fears is very different from her current everyday life. C’mon Kita-chan, you have 3 wonderful girlfriends who love and adore you!

also i just realized i didn’t get into these pairs when i talked about dating headcanons last time, so here you go

Kita-chan and Ryou have a lot to work through to get to a place where they’d date each other. But even when they do start dating, Ryou still enjoys messing with Ikuyo and, honestly, Kita-chan also enjoys it when Ryou does things to her. They can have a very mutually beneficial S and M dynamic. I think they’re very likely to explore kinky stuff more than the others. (I will say tho, I think Ryou and Nijika tried experimenting with this stuff before, but it’s a very very different dynamic)

On the other hand, Nijika would likely take Bocchi to some chill and lowkey places, like maybe a quiet cafe or a public library. She wants Bocchi to be comfortable and relaxed, but also gently nudge her into opening up more. Eventually, Bocchi does open up and their dates have a lot of heart-to-heart talks and getting to know each other’s thoughts and feelings on a deeper level.

Tangentially related, but i’m headcanoning so hard that “Hitoribocchi Tokyo” is a song Bocchi wrote about Nijika. Meeting Nijika is the catalyst for Bocchi to feel less lonely, to see Tokyo as a kinder place. Also also, the lines “Hey, um! What’s up? / There’s a dream I can’t talk about / But, one day, if you were to ask / Then maybe if it’s you...” is so reminiscent of their heart-to-heart in front of the vending machine, and then later at the after party.

my honest thoughts on burst angel after watching it:

i really enjoyed it! but i feel like alot of things weren't clear or explained like at all unfortunately

just because i say i enjoyed it doesnt make up for the fact that the anime is bad

though i do really enjoy all the characters, they were written very well. the plot was just really all over the place. episodes would start where i wouldnt know what the fuck was going on that really shouldnt happen!

jo and meg should've definitely been around 18-19 and sei should atleast be like mid-late 20's. the canon ages are stupid and i hate how much they sexualized meg as if they didnt make her a literal child. it wasnt as prevalent in the beginning but i feel like the mid episodes really started making her fanservicey.

i think the designs are fine, but i would tweak them to make them less like. revealing. ( minus sei. shes fine since shes an adult ) amy doesnt need the tummy window shes like fucking 9

the ending was super rushed and i wish it would explain things better, but i kinda like the idea that meg kinda takes up jo's work. i kinda imagine if there was ever another season or a sequel to burst angel, there would be signs of jo outside tokyo and meg makes it her mission to find her once again. ( im still cooking w/ this idea but i still think its rlly cool )

i feel like meg should have somewhat kept her clothes and just added jo's jacket onto it to kinda make her own identity bc i feel like her just getting jo's clothing is lazy character design

the worldbuilding is really good but poorly executed.. the fact that they're making mutant people and then using their brains to make powerful, intelligent, military war robots is insane and i really like it. but then again, the episodes felt rough with explaining it and i didnt really get what they were doing until like episode 12

most of the fights were really fucking cool, especially with the mechs. they honestly really impressed me

i really enjoyed those tender moments jo and meg have, it was really heartbreaking to see jo hit her unconscious so she wouldnt get hurt thought.

i wish they had meg be in more fights instead of her being a damsel in distress most of the time. like i understand shes not some hyperflexible fighter like jo, but i'd be nice to see her kick ass too

THEY NEED TO REANIMATE/REMAKE BURST ANGEL IN THE OVA'S STYLE LIKE IMMEDIATELY. The OVA did everything so right it was genuinely my favorite piece of burst angel media. ( minus the part where meg was being racist but that isnt real to me <3 )

adding onto the last point, i feel like there were points in the anime where they lost the budget and it made me laugh a bit.

i doubt they'd ever reanimate burst angel but if they do god please stop sexualizing them if you're going to keep your characters as minors its weird and gross

ok thats it for my little rant :3 im currently reading the manga and its really fun so far!! im enjoying it. i wish there were more than 17 chapters tho :( a shame

Yeah, I wasn't quite sure how to bring his actual character into the fic since he's so cynical and cunning in the anime/manga, but I'd always planned on having him be the final boss battle for the fic, just wasn't really sure how I was going to bring him into play.

Gojo's really tugging the rug right out from under the dude, millennia of intricately set up plans falling apart before the guy's very eyes. If he wasn't such an asshole, I'd almost feel sorry for the dude.

I love talking about my beloved tragic beautiful Dabi... and have been thinking about him so much since the recent episodes. He's so painfully soft behind the hurt and revenge...

Congrats on coming over to the Touya side! Absolutely better late than never and there is still plenty of Touya left to love. The Todorokis have the most interesting plot line in bnha in my opinion. I really love this story in spite of it's end, so I hope you find time to consume it fully. Since you're not a bnha fan yet I assume you haven't consumed the anime or manga content either.. but if I can say, he does not die in battle. And in my opinion, it's clear he lives on even post-war even if I wished to have seen a more concrete happiness for him! 😭

The best way to enjoy your favorite character is always to consume all the content for them lol. There's so many edits and fanart of his beautiful face and you are welcome to go through my blog tag of '#Dabi' if you wish for a place to see a good collection of them 🥺... And of course my personal favorite is reading him in fanfics, where we can truly explore his character.

If I may, might I introduce you to the other half of my love that will always go hand in hand with Touya for me... Takami Keigo/Hawks? 👀 They are basically two sides of the same coin.. constantly in parallel and Hawks is yet another tragic beautiful character. I particularly enjoy his interactions with Dabi in canon, but the fandom world for them together is endless and I could talk forever and absolutely rec some amazing fics if you decide that is also your cup of tea. 🤣

Oh plushie Dabi's yes! I want them all as well but have found them harder to come by than plushie Hawks so I am also still looking for him. (he is also sometimes quite deformed 😭 so it's hard to find good ones!) 🥲 But 'Banpresto' has released a few plushies of him in various sizes from mini keychain types to a medium more firm size and it depends which but some you can find online or others you'll have to import from Japan. I've used 'AitaiKuji' for a good place to browse in the past. There's also a 'Mochibi Dabi' which is more like a tsum tsum shape (relatively easy & affordable to buy). There's also some round ball plushies of him like from Fuwakororin and I've seen some custom fanmade kitty versions of him 🥺 like the one from AgiJagi. Beyond that he has a selection of figures, where his face looks better than others 🤣 so choose wisely (his nendo is super cute tho!). There's also been some collectible very expensive custom ones of him like the one from 'weareanimecollectors'. Anyways, happy merch collecting, I've only had the luxury to start doing more of this in the past few years so I'm no expert! But I can take some pics of the ones I have if you want to see mines. 😉

Really need your take about JJK since the final moments of the fight against Sukuna until now

Do you think it’s been a good story? I’m happy we’re getting a happy ending but I think we’re still in the Gege lost the plot territory

my thoughts about jjk are very conflicting lol (hence the tag), like i love the characters in the story, but i think there’s a lot of issues with story of jjk itself. and sometimes i think there’s a huge disconnect because ill see people on tiktok or twitter say how “jjk doesn’t need things like world building in the type of story it is” and im like ?????? it’s a story???? what kind of story DOESNT need things like world building?? i feel like there are some things in the story that didn’t an explanation that people wanted (like i don’t think every villain needs a backstory), but i do think there are some things that needed to be fleshed out.

i also think one of my big complaints with jjk has always been the pacing and the lack of emotional depth in a lot of areas. i think in some instances we get good emotional depth (e.g. with stsg, with megumi and yuji’s recent chapter), but then i feel like when gojo died we got no time for any of the characters to process his death? like gojo was a fundamental part of the story and i understand that they were in the middle of the fight, but not all the characters were fighting, some were in the observation room, and we saw none of their immediate reactions or their emotions and how they felt about him dying, and he was someone SO important to them. like gojo’s death should’ve been a driving force for them to keep pushing to defeat sukuna and i feel like that was underutilized within the story.

and then with nobara’s comeback, while it wasn’t unexpected, because it’s not something that wasn’t plausible given the open ended-ness of her departure (how there was the slim chance of her surviving) i just feel like it sucks SO MUCH that such a loved character only got a few chapters to be revived. we won’t get to see her much bc there’s a whole story to be completed still. like i 100% understand why nobara came back when she did, it does make sense given the circumstances of the fight and everything, but i also do feel like there was a narrative way to bring nobara back earlier without yuji obviously knowing because it honestly feels like a disservice to her character.

i know some people were saying this chapter today too was a lot of talking but that’s kind of what happens when there was so much fighting and there weren’t things that had been explained throughout the story, and it just sucks that now in these final chapters that we have to take the time to explain things that could have BEEN explained a long time ago LOL.

OVERALL THO!!!! i think there’s a lot of things that jjk could have maybe done better? but i think once the story is done it might flow a bit better? i think reading it week by week may make it seem harder to grasp and some of the complaints we have may not feel as bad once you read it in completion? idk, i still think i have my gripes with the story but i did still stick it out to the end LOL. i do love jjk overall tho bc the story is one i did enjoy for the most part, and knowing some of the stuff that happened behind the scenes with gege, i think he did have to change things and wasn’t able to write the story he wanted? so i will cut him some slack lol. also i can’t deny that up to shibuya jjk is pretty fucking peak and i still love it LOL

IM SO ON IT! just like the last design hc post, i’ll add little rundowns of some of the design traits!

DAZAI

my dazai design has gone thru a LOT of phases, as well as just a bit of exploration… a few common and solidified traits about him however:

- dazai’s very tan, and his hair is VERY curly, bordering coily. in my hc he’s ethnically mixed :3 (japanese and bangladeshi!)

- soft but sharp face, big nose, and soft big eyes. thick eyebrows too! i based his colour scheme off the manga one, so, dark brown almost black hair instead of a lighter brown, and dark brown eyes instead of a chestnut brown.

- SNAKEBITE PIERCINGS! in me nd the lovely @fiftyofhearts ‘ hcs (hes the asker here hai ethan :3), he got them done w ranpo and yosano.

- he’s fat. okay. i said so. the silhouette of his big ass clothes (the trenchcoat specifically) makes him look a little smaller, but thats still very much true.

- he’s scruffy. goes through periods of shaving vs not shaving but generally has a little bit of wispy facial hair more often than not. also, he’s transmasc!!! he binds w bandages also its not good. don’t do what he does. i don’t encourage unsafe binding

- 14 to 16-zai was very hyperfem. i don’t think he had that realization that he was trans until a liiiil bit later. maybe around 17? very subtly transitioned. i dont think he outwardly came out to many people other than probably chuuya, oda, and ango. everyone else just caught on eventually. he definitely went solely by his last name to disassociate from his deadname and eventually chose the name “osamu” as his first later on

- prisonzai is FULL of facial hair! his hair has gotten a lil longer too. that’s due to the fact that i’d imagine honestly his hair grows Very fast. and they’re not gonna give him a razor to shave this is literally prison

- he’s a lesbian btw

SIGMA

somehow, the sigma design has stayed relatively linear.

- LATINA SIGMA REALNESS!!!!!!!!!! a little ethnically ambiguous canonically because she was made from a book. duh. but tbh i think shes argentinian

- tan skin, very cool undertone. soft and droopy eyes, SUPER thick eyebrows, and white eyelashes. very round face and big and wide arched nose. she has a bit of a pathetic and sopping wet look to her, but she still looks very kind and gentle. most of the time while she’s masking (usually while working), that kinda works in her favour. adds to the warm and inviting feeling she’s got goin on. however, her resting face is very sad and miserable.

- she’s tall and lanky, kinda skinny. very lean and relatively average build. her colour scheme and outfit design is adjacent to the way she’s drawn in the manga. i love her so much but i dont like the anime depiction of her outfit… sorry bbg. she’s perfect in every way however

- i think generally, she’s very androgynous. enjoys dressing very androgynously too. you know how in stormbringer lippmann is described as like, so androgynous to the point where if he dressed femininely men would go crazy ‘nd if he dressed masculinely women would go crazy?? yeah. she’s got something similar goin on. switches between dressing femininely and masculinely and very in-between often. always doing something cute.

- in my eyes she is so transfem. no sort of medical transition, tho… just socially. came out that page serving cunt and she’ll continue to the day she dies

- she wears press on nails me-thinks. usually black almonds or stilettos, sometimes she switches it up to purple however.

- hair cut is kinda weird but like ???? its like if u mixed a hime cut w a wolf cut basically. or smthn like that. lots of layers. yes that’s her natural hair colour btw, she’s just cute like that.

- she’s also a lesbian btw

i’m only rlly getting into drawing jōno recently.. so lots of things keep changing. however, i HAVE decided on something.

- jōno is very much so blasian. lightskinted…. hair is pretty wavy but rests pretty straight just cuz of the haircut. the red is dyed btw. she didn’t care much abt the colour, someone asked to fuck w her hair, and she begrudgingly told them to go crazy. everyone seems to like it however, so she’s down w it.

- SMILE LINES. SMILE LINES AND EYE WRINKLES. product of keeping her eyes closed literally all the time. and her stupid smug resting face. she’s also filled with freckles and beauty marks. majority of them are on her face, but she’s definitely got some around her body as well.

- jōno is Tall. around 5’11” ethan has decided. she’s got a very graceful build but she’s NOT small, nor thin. lots of muscle and fat collecting around her thighs and legs, her strongest asset when it comes to physical strength methinks. have you SEEN how violently she’s able to kick people??? cmon now.

i def get what you mean about it starting slow, i also felt the same and kept trying to compare it to tokyo ghoul in my mind 😔✊ once the pace picks up tho, i started enjoying it a lot more! the plot is more confusing imo, at least currently (take this with a grain of salt, bc i may just be stupid 😭), but it's still engaging! i definitely wouldn't say it's as good as tokyo ghoul, but i still think it has the potential to be really amazing! the characters are great and the art is absolutely amazing (i mean, it's ishida after all 😩🙌) so im still loving it even tho it doesn't quite match up to TG so far in my opinion

and i think there's quite a few similarities between eto and one of the characters! (not sure if u want me to tell u who, i don't wanna accidentally spoil anything), but i haven't seen anyone post about it so it might just be me who thinks this..... 💀 imo both characters share similar struggles, they're both in a gray area in terms of morals as seen by others, and their aesthetics absolutely SLAP in a very similar chaotic way 😩🙌

i'm not sure if i have a fave character yet (i'm a bit behind rn oops) but i'd prob say either tokio or sora? tokio is kind of pathetic but i relate to him a lot 😅 i also rlly like a lot of the side characters like nari and maiko!

if you end up reading more of it, i rlly hope you like it!! i like seeing ur thoughts on tokyo ghoul stuff, so i'm excited to see what you think of choujin x and it's characters if you end up reading more 😄

I bought volume 2&3 (and lots of other manga actually because why not? You're a bad influence 🤣). I still need to re-read volume 1 because I know I won't remember it, but as soon as I do: I'LL POST 💪

I started following the Choujin X tag on here, and it is bleak. Makes me feel a bit sad because it's such a drop from TG...like there'll be some beautiful fanart with zero notes. Maybe we can revive/kickstart it 😁

Thanks for leaving out spoilers! I'll get reading and see if I can spot the Eto. I did read on an old blog somewhere that there's a lot of sneaky TG references throughout Choujin X.

Oh I liked Tokio too! He seemed the most "normal" which ... Is kinda ironic considering lol. I wasn't keen on his speccy friend though. I remember thinking he was too perfect 🙄

Don't worry about writing too much (u didn't) and I'm not exactly known for being stingy with my word count 🤦‍♀️
