lucky day spoilers!

ok i get what they were going for (criticism of alt right hate speech conspiracy theorist grifters that use social media to spread fear) but by making unit the definitive good guys in the situation it just kinda comes across as supporting shady military organisations. i was really hoping for a more critical look at unit since we've been seeing a lot more of them recently and they seem to be doing some messed up shit thats just brushed aside (like giving children guns). can we not have military propaganda in my doctor who please

kate trying to kill that guy was fucked up but also perfectly in character and is more along the lines of what I was expecting from a more critical look at unit. so its weird that it was brushed off as "not really their fault bc hes still alive and also they technically tried to save him". feels like they were scared to actually make unit look like they were doing something wrong :/

also, the little speech from the doctor at the end. loved ncuti gatwas acting here he really carried the scene but you can definitely tell this is the same guy that wrote praxeus lmao. mctighe will have some interesting social commentary for an episode like plastic pollution or Internet echo chambers and generally does a good job of exploring those themes until you get to the end of the episode and the doctor has a little speech where they spell out to you why it was bad. i love when doctor who does social commentary thats like half the point of it but it needs more "show dont tell". we can already figure out what this is an allegory for we dont need it explained to us in a little summary at the end. just trust your audience a little more to figure it out. that brief bit aside the rest of the doctors appearance was great and i loved how genuinely mad he seemed at conrad for hurting his friend. also the belinda chandra bootstrap paradox was cool

that aside i did think the episode was brilliant. Ruby is definitely the saving grace here and I just love the exploration of her character and insecurities. such a good look at how being a companion affects you once the doctor leaves. i just think its a shame that the doctor and belinda dont show up much at all in this. since they only have 8 episodes its a pretty significant loss of screentime. i think a lot of issues people have w 15s seasons is just the low episode count. we need more!!

conrad was also an interesting character and while i did think something was seriously off with him i did not see that huge twist coming and i thought the reveal was done well. my heart breaks for Ruby especially with her abandonment issues now she seems to be really struggling atm and its that sort of great character drama that i think was missing a bit in her first season so good job with that

i also really liked the atmosphere in this episode. its not intensely scary or anything but i appreciate the vibes.

also can we take a moment to appreciate rubys fashion sense thank you

all in all, 5/5 for enjoyment but maybe 4/5 if im looking at it critically. good episode but we are not the mcu cool it with the military propaganda 🙏

Alejandro thinks he can get away with flirting with Noah in spanish. Noah starts shit talking in spanish. Noah learns so he can hear all the little comments Alejandro keeps making under his breath. etc. so many possibilities.

Now that the show is over and Noah's off to college, he realizes he’s missing something in his life. Maybe it’s his friends, maybe it’s a lack of ever-looming danger, OR maybe it’s Alejandro. Who fucking knows. He’s too busy trying not to be in love with Alejandro to figure it out. 

Their group project is failing, horribly. There’s one thing Noah knows for certain: Alejandro's to blame. At what point does slippery eel turn into a term of endearment?

They have never ever fallen asleep next to each other. Let alone in each other's arms. Never.

Time loop where Alejandro is stuck on the episode where Noah gets voted out and sticks himself to falling in love because he can’t let go of his pride long enough to simply let Noah stay in the game and move on.

Noah loses his contacts and starts wearing his glasses more often. Alejandro notices. Everyone notices Alejandro notices.

Alejandro and Noah team up to get their friends together (insert whatever ship you like) and end up together in the process/the other two were trying to do the same thing for them.

A commentary timeline on how Alejandro's charisma turn into exploitation, how Noah's patience turned into indifference, and how they parallel each other. (I've written a few hundred words for this one lol.)

Each thinks the other doesn't like them. Cut to third party POV that watches and witnesses them completely a mess for each other.

Noah, once voted out in I See London, learns about Alejandro's family. Who have been very vocal since the show started airing.

Exploration of how Alejandro tries really really hard. Yes, He's at the top of the class, but so is Noah. Noah who sleeps through classes and doesn't turn in homework and shows up late or simply not at all and is still right up there with him.

Which like - im not a christian or religious anymore (raised southern baptists and decided that if God exists he’s cruel) but the immediate writing off of everyone who’s part of a Main Stream Religion as Problematic really pisses me off, ya know?

when we wrote down the title we didnt know why the episode resonated with us, but now I come back to it a month later as a yellow introject. we have horrid memory issues on top of memory issues, so it hurts something familiar to see the state yellow is in when he gets thrown into arthur. not knowing who or where he is but still trying to hold the cards, arthurs disappointment that hes not who he wanted him to be. its a new kind of painful. its the odd solace that comes from a shattered mirror.

we see arthurs frustration but its almost nice to be able to hate him for not giving yellow more grace.

ok i was curious whether episode 9 would pick up the threads of their dynamic that this season has played with more and im sooo glad it did. what works about kendall and roman as a pair is that they're the two logan picked out for male successor, and they both fail at that role but in different ways. kendall really wants to be logan; his eulogy was at least honest about that. he sees logan's entitlement to the world and the power and access that wealth granted him, and kendall wants that for himself. he speaks about logan as someone who "acted", ie contrasting the active masculine with the passive feminine. this is a dichotomy he learned from logan.

roman on the other hand wants others to perceive him as being as good as logan, but he doesn't actually want the things that defined logan. when he had the opportunity to pitch himself as ceo in season 2, he suggested co-running the company with logan. he likes being wealthy and he finds power intoxicating, but when he actually has it he's overwhelmed and doesn't like the responsibility. he's much happier trying to make himself the power no. 2 to some daddy figure or another (logan, gerri, mencken). roman can't fuck with his dick whereas kendall can; roman presents his dick to gerri as an object for consumption, whereas kendall is baffled when naomi asks for a dick pic because he doesn't relate to his body as an object of desire. in logan language, this all points to how roman assumes the more passive, submissive, feminine role naturally, whereas kendall gravitates toward logan's idea of masculinity and domination, but is consistently a flop in actualising those ideals.

'living+' was maybe the first episode where like, a majority of the tension comes from the roman-kendall compare/contrast, honestly. roman is trying to imitate logan, but also hates doing it and wants kendall to stop him and put him in his place. meanwhile, kendall is trying to imitate logan in a different way, where he's trying to put on a great show and literally solve the problem of death. he doesn't stop roman because he sees roman's firing spree as a demonstration of strength rather than as roman foundering. ultimately kendall succeeds in making his insane presentation, but ends the episode still struggling because nothing he does will ever actually earn him logan's approval (the #1 washing away in the sand), whereas roman chickens out of kendall's disneyland messiah thing, and ends up in the car alone listening to his deepfaked father denigrate him again.

'church and state' also plays with their dynamic, where roman starts as the triumphant son but then embarrasses himself by displaying affection for his father, and ends up getting ditched by mencken and referred to as a crying (female) pig; kendall, on the other hand, loses his family and his assistant in the first five minutes, then delivers the eulogy, tells roman off for being too submissive in his relationship with mencken, and ends up in a position that's strategically advantageous if emotionally dangerous. i like how these two episodes play with roman and kendall's different relationships to logan and the language of strength. they're each baffled by the other's desired position in the hierarchy; also, whereas kendall is ultimately willing to sacrifice roman for his own pursuit of power, roman wants power more as a way of being close to his siblings and getting their approval. so the ways that kendall and roman misunderstand each other can really open up a broader exploration of logan's worldview and the show's commentary on the family as a part of capitalist productive logics.

CONCLUSIONS! lived up to the hype! i think it's a bit 13-era vibe in that it's clearly influenced by all the prestige space-base-isolation scifi we see in the ~cinema now every year. the aesthetic is hitting that vibe (and going to the root, there's also a very clear Alien influence). kinda wish we had more one offs just like this one :( bc i feel the other 2 specials have too much Work to do, so there's not enough time to do.Fun like lore and character stuff. Execution wise is very successful. the switcheroos work. the callbacks work. there's a lot of character stuff happening ("I just realized I'm still working through that!") but it doesn't interfere w/ the adventure itself. My one grip is there's a couple shots that do feel too green-screen-y, but overall the ep is visually amazing. def only a story you could do now. also I love that the NMDs were like "rtd is gonna retcon the timeless child!!! everyone hated it!!!!!!!!!!!!!!" and he was like "cool. now watch this" lollll king moments. rare moments where it feels like we live in the best timeline.

There are so many ways to answer this depending on what your preferred genres are, which Asian dramas you tend to watch (e.g., Japanese, Chinese, Thai, Korean, Indian, etc.), and many other things. I'm not sure which ones you'll be in the mood for and how to go about this, but I've decided to categorize the recommendations based on language and to just list down whatever are at the top of my head at the time of writing. I might miss a few really good ones, so I apologise in advance lol. I also added some commentary but not the synopsis, because I figured you could probably find a better description of the synopsis out there than whatever I can give, haha. Anyway. On to the list!

Japanese dramas:

1) Cherry Magic. If you've been following me since at least 2020, you'll probably know how dear this show is to me. BL rom com with some magical realism, good acting, great chemistry, cute plot, and overall warm vibes.

2) Midnight Diner. Easy-to-watch show, with each episode written almost as a standalone. Nice to watch if you're trying to relax.

3) Old Fashioned Cupcake. This is not old man yaoi, but the main character is 39 and is quite contemplative about it. This show has great writing, and the main couple's individual character development and relationship development were amazing to watch. Also challenges the expectations of what men of certain ages should or shouldn't do.

4) Rookies. A classic 👌🏼 Based on a manga of the same name, this show is about a teacher helping delinquents achieve their dream of playing baseball at the national level. A bit cheesy at times, but really heart-warming and uplifting. Plus, the theme song slaps big time.

5) Our Dining Table. Food, love, found family. A good, simple show that will give you all the feels.

6) What Did You Eat Yesterday? Now this is old man yaoi. It's a really good show that depicts the day-to-day life of a middle-aged gay couple in Tokyo, from their mundane struggles to their major hurdles and everything in between. The second season is especially beautiful, with well-written character development for a lot of the characters.

7) Nobuta wo Produce. Another classic. You have Horikita Maki, Kamenashi Kazuya, and Yamashita Tomohisa - plenty of eye candy to go around. The story itself is charming and enjoyable, and the OST is a banger.

8) Monster. This one is a movie by Kore-eda. It's just such a good movie that I had to include it in this list.

9) Utsukushii Kare. If you're in the mood for a BL that's a bit more twisted but still sweet and fun, then this one is highly recommended.

Korean:

1) Hospital Playlist. One of my favorite K-dramas. Slice of life, centering around a group of 5 doctors who have been friends since college and are now in their 40s, and have decided to reform their band. The writing beats are quite different from what you'd find in a typical K-drama, so I find it refreshing and interesting. I do have to warn you that you'll need to pay close attention when watching this show so you don't miss anything! Funny, heart-warming, charming, and overall fun. And the music is soooo good. The actors actually learned to play the instruments as part of the show! I wish I could watch this show for the first time again :')

2) Crash Landing on You. If you're going to watch a ""stereotypical"" rom com K-drama, then there is no better place to start. CLOY is SO enjoyable despite all the overused tropes, because the writing is good and the characters are loveable. Fun fact: the actors who play the main couple got married some time after the show!

3) Love Scout. This one is still fresh in my memory because it's recent. Simple, coherent writing, with loveable characters. The female lead in particular is just 👌🏼🥺💞🥹🙏🏼

4) The Flower of Evil. I love this show. Drama, romance, crime, psychological thriller - this girl has got it all. I rewatch this sometimes just to feel something.

5) Vincenzo. A bit difficult to watch at parts due to how brutal some of the characters are, but overall a fun show about lawyers, the mafia, and giving evil people what they deserve. Also makes you think about the whole idea of evil. Also the humor in this is great and there's also some found family thrown in there. This baby has also got it all.

6) Beyond Evil. If you're in the mood for a crime mystery thriller, then this is the show for you. Great, great writing, and there's something lgbtq going on between the 2 main characters......

Chinese:

1) The Untamed. Again, if you've followed me since at least 2020, you'll probably know how unhinged I am about this show. Magic, bRomance, political intrigue, sword fights - you name it, she's got it.

2) Word of Honor. The last few episodes felt rushed, but I still loved the show to bits. Highly recommend.

3) My Fair Princess. The classic Chinese drama. I like it because of the nostalgia associated with it, but it's a pretty great show regardless.

4) We Best Love. First season has strong writing, and the second season has some delicious angst. The brain rot this show gave me. Ugh.

Thai:

1) Enchante. This show got a lot of hate for reasons I don't understand, but this show got me through some pretty dark times, so it'll always be special to me. I love how the MC has many of the traits typically associated with the love interest (e.g., is rich, has a fancy car). And the characters are just charming to me. I also just loved watching the episodes week by week and having something to look forward to.

2) Not Me. In the mood to watch people fight injustice and rebel against a corrupt establishment? Then this is the BL for you. Gun is also just a great actor and makes any show worth watching.

3) Bad Buddy. I had some major issues with this show (as I often do with shows directed by Aof, like Tale of a Thousand Stars), but there are scenes that make Bad Buddy a really enjoyable, good show (as there often are with shows directed by Aof).

4) KinnPorsche. Another really fun one concerning the mafia. And lots of gay romance.

5) Between Us. This is a spin off to Until We Meet Again, but can be watched on its own. Great character and relationship development.

6) Step by Step. This one had SO much potential, but it missed the landing. Still, I had a great time watching it. Watching it as it first aired also made the experience memorable to me, so I'm probably biased because of it.

7) Only Friends. Dysfunctional group of friends who are going thru it. The show can be summed up by the phrase "the girls are fightinggggg". There are a couple of writing choices towards the end that I disliked, but I still enjoyed this messy bitch.

ETA: 8) My School President. A great show! Felt like I was watching an anime.

I also watch some Indian movies but not dramas, so I won't include them here. This list is already long enough as it is lol.

been reflecting on the season a lot recently and on the topic of bucks bisexuality storyline, and i think ive come to the conclusion that theres maybe some catastrphization on the part of people who think the arc is horribly written, but also other people seem to be looking at it through rose tinted glasses and accepting anything given to them just because the storyline was such a long time coming. And i’ve had a hard time with figuring out why both sides of these takes just bother me so much so i sat down with my thoughts while work was slow and i rotated evan buckley in my mind until i had coherent thoughts

When it comes to the self discovery of it all i think that is probably the best thing the show did with the arc. episodes four and five were ultimately huge successes in my opinion on the topic of bisexuality. My main issue with this part of it is not specifically to do with the bi-ness of the storyline but the show in general. The show, showrunner, and Oliver want us to believe this storyline is different, that this is the one that finally changes everything, and I fully believe them in that being their intentions. However, they didnt show that to us well enough. The show has a glaringly cliche formula when it comes to buck and eddie love storylines that i used to think was intentional parallelism but now believe to be a writing rutt that they can't seem to break out of. They meet the partner, they have a romantic moment, something gets in the way of that romance, they meet up at a restaurant to “start over”. Ali, natalia, ana all follow this exactly and taylor sort of. its just tired? And the fact that this is exactly how buck and tommys relationship starts too just makes it so i cant convince myself that this is any different than before. Like i said i truly believe the writers thought they were pulling buck off the hamster wheel and the commentary outside the show tells me that he’s supposed to be doing something new, but they just can't escape their own romance formula enough to actually do it in the TEXT. and one thing about me is i think when it comes to TV, a viewer response lens is the most important way to analyze the story. the intention of the writer doesnt matter as much as the interpretation of the viewer because the average viewer of prime time television isnt reading tim minears interviews or listening to the podcasts oliver stark does, theyre tuning in at 8pm est and tuning out at 9. to conclude on the topic of bucks self discovery arc, i think it was done well. i think this is a general consensus, i feel like most people who think the storyline went sour still believe that episode four was done well at the very least

when it comes to the coming out of it all, this is one spot where i believe there’s some catastrophizing. the storyline had to choose carefully who got the long coming out scenes and i think it’s crazy to say that they chose wrong. do i wish there was a little bit of a longer beat with both hen and bobby about the storyline, yes absolutely. but i don’t think scenes with buck sitting down to formally come out to them would have been either necessary nor in character. bucks strongest canonical ties are to maddie, eddie, and bobby. two of which he never felt the need to come out formally to either by the way. i think a lot of people wanted to see more hesitation and fear from buck about his sexuality, but what they decided to show us instead was a man who realized something new about himself and immediately understood that the people around him were going to love and accept him no matter what. the only slip we see in this confidence is around eddie where… im trying to keep this analysis unbiased by non canon things so im not going to get into what i think of that but… in any sense bucks coming out moments were not about coming out at all but instead always about him being loved by his family. i rate this part of the storyline 10/10 because it all felt so natural and real for someone who has the support system and love that buck does (not saying it isn’t hard to come out even when people are supportive, just that i get why it wasn’t hard for buck). the storyline matched the character really well, but if they were to give the same easy breezy coming out arc to a character with the same backstory as say eddie then i would understand the want for more turbulence.

now the most polarizing part of the storyline for sure is the “established relationship” part of the season i guess you could call it lmao. my personal main complaint here is that we immediately lose any and all insight into the *new* of it all. if you want to make a big deal about this romance storyline being different than the other ones, you actually have to show us on screen what’s DIFFERENT about it. it doesn’t bother me so much on a relationship side of things because the relationship isn’t my personal cup of tea, but i think it would have been nice to see more scenes focused on the reasons this relationship is something new for buck. i’m not a tv writer, i honestly don’t have a suggestion for scenes that could have made this better for me. i think a tone thing is big part of it, if they lightened up tommy’s interactions with buck made him a little more flirty and lively it would have felt truly like a new relationship still in the phase of navigating a new dynamic rather than. well it doesn’t matter what i thought the relationship felt like by the end that’s not the point here. another place i feel like they could have put some more effort in is the bobby of it all, he was very preoccupied but their conversation felt stilted and not actually how i imagine it going. when it comes to the acknowledgment of bisexuality and newfound personal experiences i rate the end of the season: bad. i don’t think this was by virtue of the show not caring or wanting to portray the storyline anymore, but just by virtue of the entire end of the season being… kinda bad.

finally the finale, oh the finale… i swear im trying to come at this as unbiased as i can when i talk about the BT dinner scene but just know that i didn’t like it and that may bleed through. i think it was unfavorable of them to frame this scene the way they did. by having the scene start en media res and having us jump in to the dinner already in progress it feels disingenuous, because now im supposed to believe buck left the hospital, cooked an entire meal, set up a date, started eating and only THEN was the topic of bobby’s health brought up? it feels like this scene was written in a way that it would be for a well established long term couple, not a new relationship we’ve barely seen on screen. in this very scene is the first time tommy even learns what bucks relationship with bobby is like, this is very obviously not a deep connection yet so why are they being given the framework of it? the show is telling us that this relationship has gotten more serious without any proof and i find it very hard to believe them. i think there’s ONE simple change that makes this scene work 100x better and makes me feel like buck is actually settling into the relationship rather than having to take tim minear word for it: just start the scene with buck coming home to tommy! if buck is just getting home from the hospital it doesn’t feel as out of character because there’s less assumed time where buck is for some reason not worried about bobby, which he WOULD be don’t even try to tell me he’s not. and if tommy is already in bucks apartment when he comes home we learn so much about their relationship with such a small gesture. that buck feels comfortable with him there, that tommy feels comfortable alone there, that they spend time there often enough that tommy knows his way around. it just feels like this scene was written in good faith but the forgetfulness by the writers on the overall context of where this scene was in the episode created a strange tone in which i’m supposed to believe evan buckley would ever plan a romantic date night while bobby nash is literally comatose. thoughts on the bisexual storyline in the finale: no. i’m not gonna get into the daddy issues line of it all because that’s a lot more opinion based and it would make this like double length. ask me about it if you want i guess.

all in all, i think there’s … a lot that could have and should have been done differently in order to maximize the goals and effects that tim continuously told us he was trying to achieve. when it comes to carefully telling a story of late life sexuality discovery, i think they did well. when it comes to most other aspects, i think the ball was dropped. pls feel free to send messages or asks regarding this topic because i think im still developing thoughts on it and id love to have conversations regarding :)

like not to say later seasons of xena dont have good comedy episodes i sorta dont count been there done that because it was filmed for season 2 and is very much in the season 1 and 2 style though it is the best comedy episode of the whole show but warrior priestess tramp is legendary to mee i think most of the xena double episodes you know fulfill the most important part of all the comedy episodes which is to have something to say about our main characters and you know are also very good though they kind of have to be since i think what makes the bad later season comedy episodes so wonky is theyre often kind of just written to be placeholder break episodes for lucy lawless and renee o'connor so they can get well needed rest... so theyre kind of by necessity disconnected from the rest of the show though i still dont get why king of assassins is so hated of that grouping of comedy episodes like gina torres is fun and it feels like one of the more enjoyable self referential self indulgent applications of ted raimi and bruce campbell sort of making a joke on the fact he was like the lame younger brother hanging around sam raimi and bruce campbells bestie hangouts and again gina torres is literally there tho it is one of the worst offenders of the put gabrielle in a corner and make her hate everything going on recurring comedy episode problems... anyways theres also of course the classique fins femmes and gems which i do think again has the problem of being a sort of disconnected magical world cuz the characters are not acting as they are but it does find you know good equally funny bits for both xena and gabrielle i do always like the jokes about gabrielle being self obsessed again finally jokes that feel built around their actual characters and of course the ever present and iconique fishing = gay sex jokes are a dime a dozen here but again brought down by the very bad joxer subplot they literally havent figured out how to make him work as well in a comedy episode as he did in been there done that but you know theyre not all winners.. the plays the thing also really great because as i mentioned it feels rooted in the events of the season and you know has a fun and meta premise that feels like its beginning to forecast the season 6 shift... i mean im an insane person who finds lyre lyre and married with fishsticks to be camp classics by totally departing any realm of comprehensibility and connection to the rest of the show we have blasted into outer space and there are mermaids here tho both are kind of jokes about like the medium of television heralding the vibes of the season 6 comedy episodes old ares had a farm trying to comically wrap up and continue to bait their complex relationship angles and things... you are there i honestly cannot figure out if i like the episode or not but its well its again fascinating new dimension to the greater meta commentary of xena and really heralds a brave new decade of queerbait to come i think and then of course many happy returns which is really up there as well in the beautiful golden trifecta of best comedy episodes with been there done that and a day in the life its very much trying to bring back the season 1 and 2 styles of comedy for the later show and delightfully makes fun of a lot of the show while also just being like a good episode that is enjoyable to watch and has a lot of fun things to say about xena and gabrielle and the recurring plots and tropes of xena very full circle moment..

I think the drama could have still been entertaining if we started hearing Mu Sheng's thoughts and get the answers to these early episodes. I was waiting for the drama to answer so many questions.

im not sure if i wouldve wanted the narrative shift like that. i know we get it anyways, which i liked, but i wanted to see miaomiaos resolution too, like what she gained from that experience. i think we did lose out on some personal feelings, but i guess thats just for us to speculate about?

I thought the drama wanted to set up the novel scene that takes place after he catches her skulking around the guest rooms (which doesn't happen in the drama). In that scene, she lies that she was looking for someone to talk to.

He's playing 3d chess while Miaomiao is playing checkers, and he thinks they're playing the same game.

LOL thats such a perfect way of putting it! he absolutely believes theyre both trying to play mind games or whatnot when in reality miaomiao couldnt play poker to save her life.

What's wrong with him that he keeps playing along for so long and tells her his courtesy name. He eventually blames it on sleepiness. But, the next day, Miaomiao notices he looks like a person that had a good night's sleep unlike her. So, we know he's lying to himself.

ohhh i love that. i mean as you said, i like the way we see it in the drama without this, but this is still so sweet, it wouldve been a nice touch for the audience to have.

But now that you mention it, it could also be that he enjoys it. I think he has a hierarchy of Miaomiao touching him is way better than him touching her.

100% he enjoys it, because, as youve said, hes touch-starved, and likely doesnt understand why someone who knows him would willingly grab onto him and touch him, etc. due to his insecurities. ziqi is certainly more able to lend his hand and grab her/someone than he is to allow people to touch him due to this, so when miaomiao does physically interact with him, it means something.

I would have like to see what she was like during the years between her father's death and the start of the drama. She seems extroverted and comfortable socializing to me.

me too. underneath it all, im sure the way she acts in that world is how she truly is, but i believe the way she grew up and due to the limitations of the real world, shes much more introverted in her everyday life. ive discussed this with harocat, and we both agree that only ziqi would be able to get this side out of her post-canon.

Her observation are about things unique to the Fu Zhou's fantastical world (novel version) instead of broad commentary that could be used for any xianxia drama (drama version).

I think you're right. I'm probably overthinking things. We don't know about his deep loathing for himself because of his demon heritage until ep 7, and he comes off as relatively happy and sure of himself until then.

yeah, the twofold aspect is more like, the version of miaomiao thinking hes talking about her would be how miaomiao views it, but once we, the watchers, understand ziqis view of himself, then i think we can realize the version of him talking about himself is more likely what he was saying.

Her dad had to use the original taxpayer money to bribe Dowager Consort Zhao in the past, so there was no money in the county treasury. He refilled the treasury with his money when the official came to check.

From that conversation, the readers can see that he and Mu Yao are more than the simple heroic figures Miaomiao has read about, and Miaomiao begins to see that her understanding of them and their relationship is shallow.

ahhh yes, definitely while watching the first time i didnt feel very much towards yao and fuyi. to me, it was that they had become the supporting characters in this new story, with miaomiao and ziqi as the lead actors now, so it made sense that they werent as "developed" so to speak, but since we got so much content of them in the later episodes, i wish we had more to go off of for them.

Even if its only 1% chance, I would think Mu Sheng wouldn't be willing to take that risk even if Mu Yao likes her. Although Mu Sheng says to Mu Yao that Liu Fuyi is up to something, I thought he was only slandering Liu Fuyi to use him as a scapegoat.

thats what i think too! but i guess because of yao liking her, he has no choice. yao is her own person, and will surely find a way to be with miaomiao regardless of what he tries, i suppose, and maybe he didnt want to risk his relationship with her just like before. he absolutely was trying to use fuyi as a scapegoat.

Actually… I'm not sure what Mu Sheng thinks of Liu Fuyi. How do you think Mu Sheng views Liu Fuyi?

oh he hates him. doesnt matter how many years theyve been together, doesnt matter that during the first bit of them knowing each other fuyi was supposed to be in a coma, so he didnt do anything wrong lol.

we dont get those thoughts about thinking fuyi is a great demon catcher and etc., only negativity from the get go, so based off that id say... to him, fuyi has no good intentions, and thats just him being overprotective of yao at his younger age, which he never could shake even as he grew older. despite all the good fuyi has done, it likely crossed his mind of "why is this guy still with us, cant he go catch demons on his own?"

even after yao and him kiss and yao initiates hugs, hes still not very happy about it. and he didnt even hear fuyis confession about being with her for the map that he made to yao! lol. he doesnt like him at all, and only warms up because of yao being with him, him being with miaomiao, and i think, after fuyi revealed he knew his secret but had no malintent.

OF COURSE i have a lot of fun doing this even if its tiring LOL. yuxi makes it so worth it because i LOVE characters that are microexpressive. you have to see and watch to know how theyre feeling rather than just being fed lines or whatever, and youre not quite guessing either, you just have to pay attention! it was why i loved xiao heng from "the double" so much. jesus, wang xingyue did that role so well, and when i rewatch that for the 3rd time i plan on doing an ep review for that as well LOL.

ziqi listening to this convo goes down had me wondering why, esp with his solemn-type expression. are you just spying on her? did u have intentions on talking to her, but overheard all this so you stayed and listened? like i actually wonder if he kinda wanted to follow up on his 0% feelings from the festival? idk! but hearing this caused a fork in the road and he chose a different approach to her from what he couldve been planning.

miaomiao blaming herself for her dads death is so so sad. it must be a bit difficult at this moment to believe that the man next to her is some version of her father while thinking of her real one, and it is a little jarring to hear them both talk about him as some Other Person, instead of "no, i wouldnt have blamed you, dear," but the feeling is there all the same. at the end of the day, that is like her dad, but shes definitely trying to detach a little bit because its Not, and goes as far as calling him "old lin" to create a boundary for herself, i imagine. otherwise, she would absolutely get too attached, and thats why she also warns him if she suddenly goes back to being mean she hopes he isnt upset.

from the moment i first watched this moment, i knew ziqi had some connection to the real world. i was like, why does he care so much about this? he cares a lot. this is kinda sus. and after the Go game they definitely make it more obvious.

i wonder whats going on in his head when he asks this tho? is he thinking that she is some type of demon who can time/universe travel or something? because hes linking that to her being weird/sneaky, and i cant imagine how else he would make it make sense in his head given the universe.

thoughts on the latest wtnv eps (kinda jumbled):

first things first, i love the progression of the titles, from The Trouble With Time ("life is too short every second spent not truly living is a waste we are going to die RIGHT NOW") to The Promise Of Time ("the future is ours we will never die we no longer need to fear") as two extremes, and then The Battle With Time which represents the constant oscillation between these two extremes and sometimes finding that perfect middle ground ("the future is not ours to claim and constantly fearing the end of our lives is what holds us back from truly living it in the first place") (and of course the wonderful throwback to "death is only the end if you assume the story is about you" except....slightly more aggressive sjdbjs but that's cecil for you)

speaking of throwbacks, the whole thing with peoples future brains-as-robots and present time nightvalians fighting alongside/against them reminded me a lot of the episode waaay back with the doubles, and the first-hand introduction to kevin, and by extension, desert bluffs, strex corp, and of course, the smiling god. and since this episode saw The Return Of That Weird Ecstatic Deity through a character who was a hardcore worshipper......parallels much? [sidenote: i wonder when exactly casper discovered the smiling god, considering he's from the future]

and while we're on parallels: being reminded of the doubles episode really made me miss dana :( i wish we could've heard about her in this episode while cecil was describing what various citizens were doing. like, i think it would be ooc for present dana to cryofreeze her brain but imagine her fighting her robot counterpart and going "OH GOD WHY THIS AGAIN" or just looking outside her apartment window and hearing everything that was happening and thinking "thank goodness it's not me this time" lol

it was a nice touch for cecil to add how casper's death affected the timeline, but i think it glossed over two things. one, how the entire town and cecil the observer just....decided to kill a guy with a shapeshifting hacksaw (iirc) and then took his brain, put it in a "weak, scrawny" robot and put it to mind numbing (no pun intended) and objectively useless labour for no actual reason. that's scary af, you all?? i wonder what the writers were trying to show through that

two, how even if time in nightvale might have become "normal", its still being messed with. just like the general, the citizens in these episodes altered time significantly (killing casper, which cecil mentioned meant that now he never harvested brains for robots in the first place) in a way that may seem inconsequential presently but completely changed their future. that is also scary af, you all

another thing i noticed was how the community came together. compared to strex or hell beagle this time around the union of the town to defeat a common enemy was......a lot more violent? the scene of the whole town coming out into the streets while cecil narrated it all isn't new (though still extremely sexy), but it seems to be different every time. this time around, cecil mentioning the "neighbouring towns" of ghost pine and whispering forest also coming to help....what stake did they have in this fight? did casper try to rope them in too or does nightvale just have extremely good intracommunity relations these days? also, does this mean those towns also listen to cecil's station?

in context of that, makes me wonder why desert bluffs wasn't mentioned (either that, or it was mentioned and i'm forgetting it as usual). did casper try to harvest brains from desert bluffs? it would make sense, bc the whole smiling god connection. did he come to nightvale after going to desert bluffs? if so: what does that mean for desert bluffs' citizens? were any of the robots of the future from someplace other than nightvale too?

finally, to end on a somewhat positive note: i loved the focus on charlie bear. this working class dude just up and started an uprising to defeat casper and his robots while being a major reason that an uprising was needed to defeat casper and his robots in the first place lmao, good for him

Late Night Talks

Request: Hey! I hope you’re well sweetheart! I have a request, so I’m the youngest of my family (unfortunately) and a lot of the time I’m unheard and dismissed because of this, ngl I don’t have the best relationship with my family so it’s hard to connect with them, or talk to them. I kinda feel like white noise ya know? So Compress, Twice, and Dabi are my closest comfort characters. So how about them suddenly seeing the reader (probably late at night) talk about the things they enjoy with just stars in their eyes. It’s a harsh comparison to how they act during the day, it’s still them, but it’s just more raw.

Bubaigawara Jin:

Jin’s need for interaction and want for friendship makes him the perfect partner to talk to. He loves talking to you, his legs bouncing and hands flapping as he mentions something that he likes. Sitting beside you, he does most of the talking, how energy out matched and while he does talk, he also looks to you for commentary, wanting to remember that he isn’t alone. There are rare instances when you two are alone that you’ll talk more. The roles will be reversed and you’re talking about anything and everything, smiling at him and for the moment when your eyes lock, he feels the weight on his shoulders lift.

It’s not uncommon to find the villian and you in a single room together at night, often the words will travel the halls and you have to muffle your laughter. This night is one of those- he’s in your room at night, resting beside you as you talk about this new thing that you’re into. You’re eager, shifting in your seat, a bowl of popcorn nearing the end of the bowl, kernels accidentally grabbed at. You’ve grown so excited, your words tripping over each other as you try to find a way to make yourself comfortable all while he stares at you. You’re processing the words fast, trying to tell the story in a cohesive way but with your excitement you are unable to. You look at him with wide eyes and a grin that can nearly blind him.

You’re different at night. He’s unsure whether because your mind has grown groggy with sleep or if it’s because the likelihood of someone interrupting the both of you has lowered, but you’re different. You’re much more prone to touch- you reach for him and you playfully push at his shoulder, your tongue stuck between your teeth as you give him a coy grin. Perhaps it's due to you being so touchy, that he grows bolder with his movements, grabbing your hand and playing with it as you continue to speak, the bite to his words softening whenever you tease at him.

If it were up to him, he would listen to you for hours on end, locking the door and making sure that you two could just talk until time ran out. But, he knows that that’s impossible, so he lays down on your bed, his head resting on his palm as his elbow digs into your pillow. You’re much different to him when the dim lighting is all that illuminates the room, your hair holding a soft glow, the features on your face almost softer and he’s unsure whether it’s exhaustion that grips at him or something else, but he wants to stay awake, he wants to listen to you every night. You mean a great deal to him and he wants to hear you speak, will take every word and keep the important ones so he knows what you like and what to do.

Despite being tired, he wants to continue talking to you, hearing you talk but the night continues to go on, the sky turning a softer shade of blue, and your words are starting to drift. Jin will take over at that point, laying beside you, talking as you start to drift. He mentions things that you said, making a point to mention that you were the one who came up with that observation and talk about how that really stuck out to him. You voice continues, your words growing softer and your gaze on him now barely peeking between your lashes and yet, he is unable to tell you to go to sleep. It’s selfish of him, but he wants to hear you talk until you’re whispering your words into a single breath. The next day, when you can barely keep your eyes up and you’re talking to him, he’ll have an inside joke, your grin widening as you take joy that he listened to you. Under the table, his knee nudges against yours, his smile ever growing when you return the gesture.

Dabi:

Dabi enjoys hearing you talk- it’s soothing for him, something where he’s able to rest his head on your lap and have you play with his hair as he listens to you gush about whatever it is that you like. However, while he does so, he realizes that he has a habit of falling asleep on your lap. It isn’t because you’re boring, you’re just nice to listen to. Laying with you and hearing you talk is one of the few times where he’s at peace, safe in your arms and touched gently. However, he’s noticed the implications of it, noticing that you don’t talk as much as you did. His piercings are warm as they press against his palms, his eyes half-lidded as he tries to figure out a way to make it up to you or to show you that he does actually care for what you have to say.

Unable to sleep, he arises from his bed, walking towards the living area trying to find some sort of sleeping aid. Instead of sleeping aids, he finds you curled up on the couch, the screen of your phone lighting across your face. You give him a smile as a greeting, your focus returning to your show. He can see heavy bags under your eyes- you’re forcing yourself to stay awake. The couch is soft under him, his arms spread as he turns his gaze over to your show. Without a word, you align your phone to make sure that he’s watching it, your words are whispered as you explain the plot and the characters but as you continue to do so, your words excite and your volume raises gradually.

The night is somewhat young and as far as he knows, there’s no mission that he has tomorrow. He has to fix his past mistakes and he wants to hear you talk. He pushes more, asking about the relationships between the characters and even wanting you to restart the series from the first episode- if you want to, of course. When you do so, he makes himself comfortable on the couch, stealing your blanket and laying down, offering for you to sit close to him in a much more relaxed manner. He covers the both of you with the blanket, his arm stretched behind your back and hand resting on your shoulder.

In between episodes, you start to muse once more, ranging from the metaphors to your favorite lines, and to the designs that you like. Your legs bounce, shaking as you try to contain your excitement despite it being written all over you. He gives you his full attention, nodding his head along as you ramble. Your words are rapid, your expression focused entirely on him and he wonders if you’ve always been hiding all this excitement. You’re much more animated, moving your hands and arms, shifting as you speak and there’s a certain tone to your voice that makes him unable to look away.

Every word of yours is coated in sugar and honey, and he clings to it, nodding along and looking at you with half-lidded eyes, unable to wipe the soft smile off of his face. The show is forgotten, your phone now showing him pictures from different stills and you’re much more relaxed, leaning against him, your head pressed against his side. You have a wide smile, your eyes shining with stars as when you look up to smile at him, he returns it as all air escapes his lungs. Once Dabi can properly think, he enters the conversation, offering more than soft hums and words of interest. At night, he can see your smile, the way that you look at him with wide eyes, the giddiness in your voice is enough to wake up from his growing slumber. He could fall asleep listening to you, but he doesn't want to miss how you look when it’s just you and him.

Sako Atsuhiro:

Atsuhiro adores hearing you talk. He’s rather eccentric, always wanting for the spotlight to be on him, but when you talk, he doesn’t mind being the one entranced by you. He wants to hear you talk, to see the light in your eyes. Yet, he can tell you’re holding yourself back- you play with your hands, tug at the ends of your hair, and laugh nervously as you apologize, telling him that you didn’t mean to talk for so long. While it’s true that you might talk over people, he knows it’s because of how excited you are, willing to share whatever is on your mind before the thought fades.

It’s a late night for him, phantom pains that make it unable for him to sleep and even with the medication acting as a placebo, he’s unable to truly find peace. He finds you in the kitchen, mumbling to yourself as you prepare a late night snack. He knocks against the wooden wall in an attempt to announce himself before startling you but you still jump, turning around with wide eyes and a parted mouth, before relaxing once you take notice that it’s just him. When you ask why he’s up so late, he gestures to his arm, making a strained face as his hand clamps around the residual limb, the pain sharp as it shoots up into his shoulder. He asks what you were muttering about and when you turn your head, your lips pulled into a straight line as you’re clearly flustered at having been caught, he laughs, telling you to tell him- to get his mind off of the pain.

You start off slow, mumbling between words and telling him about a new thing that you like. Your words increasingly start to grow with confidence, your eyes on him as you share your late night snack. He listens to you, nodding along and saving the best piece of the snack for you, his chewing trying to be quiet so as to not interrupt your words. While he also wants to start to talk about one of his hobbies, he much rather listen to you. When you do take a bite, he asks his questions, encouraging you to continue talking, his arm resting against the table and he leans towards you, eager to grasp at every word that leaves past your mouth.

Stars are in your eyes, your tone softer and you go to hold his hand, your thumb, index and middle finger hooking over his middle and ring finger, your eyes wide and smile whimsical as you talk. Under the bare light of the kitchen, you’re softer, your eyes shadowed and your touch gentle as you begin to toy with his hand. You’re passionate about what you talk, and he wonders if when you look so eager, and so full of life, if it’s only something that you show to whoever catches you at night, to someone who can glimpse a version of you so real that he’s almost at a loss for breath.

Sleep gnaws at him, but he is unwilling to do so. His pain is gone, replaced with a dull ache that he knows he can sleep off, but he has stars in his eyes as he listens to you talk. Your voice is soothing, your laugh like a lullaby that only pulls him in further to you. His hand is warm, hispalm tickled by your nails and the snack now lays forgotten on the plate. He almost feels bad for wasting food, but he doesn’t have the will to pull his hand away and finish the food that you prepared. Every word that you speak only makes Atsuhiro want to smile, to lay on his bed and think about you and how you spoke to him. You talk, and he’d do anything to keep your voice memorized, to stay awake long when you've fallen asleep just to remember how your voice lilts when you start to get excited or how it drops during a serious part as if you were telling him a secret.

HELLO I FINALLY HAVE TIME TO WATCH THE FIRST OS2 SIMM EPISODE 

im really hoping they do seanmaitee and not naysean for this, bc otherwise ill probably scream and riot. i love winnysatang with all my being, but their characters in this show shouldn’t be a couple in my opinion (if you ship them i have absolutely no problem with that). from memory (and i binged simm not too long ago so i think my memory is reliable), they’re literally only in the same room together once, and they dont even interact at all. this has definitely been said before by like everyone, but something i love about this series in particular is how kluen was terrible at showing his emotions and feelings and inner thoughts, he was this blank slate going around and showing nothing. but then, as the series progresses, he tries harder to show nuea that he likes him. but my boy doesnt have it figured out yet, and there’s communication errors and it seems like he’s pushing himself on nuea and it seems like an unhealthy/toxic relationship, but it’s not, he’s just autistic and doesnt know how to communicate his emotions and he’s trying for the first time and doing it wrong but he’s trying. and then it gets to the last episode (or two? i cant remember) and theyre so happy and fluffy and good vibes and its because he’s finally figured it out, he just has to say ‘i love you i love you i love you’ and even pronounce it to the world ‘I LOVE DAONUEA’ so that everyone knows and so that nuea knows and so that they can both finally understand and be happy and ghrbghrb they make me happy
