"#imagine talking about someone behind their back and not facing consequences?" Penelope talked about everyone behind their backs, though. It would break my heart if someone treated her that coldly for it. I don't think her or Colin deserve that.
oh 100% but. but it's such a complicated situation as penelope is basically like a gossip. she's a modern day journalist who takes information and portrays it as we see in modern day in tabloids and click-baits. it's her one source of income, it's how she makes her voice heard, and it's her footmark in the world. BUT!!! it has consequences, dire consequences resulting in screwing over friends, family, alike. but this is the world she lives in. everyone in bridgerton will screw over their own friends and family to get wealth, power, love, sex, and status. it's just the way it is. it's how it was.
in the books, it's not as loud when it's announced. however, that's the books, and not the show. the show needs dramatics so when it eventually does come out that penelope is lady whistledown it will be very dramatic, possibly cold, and there will be resentment over her. but that's where colin will come into it and he's going to make damn sure that this doesn't backfire onto her and he'll do his best to protect her.
