And with that. Caitlyn is realizing why Vi protected her. And what she gave up when she pushed Vi away.
this exact moment is when caitlyn truly realizes who vi is—why she fights so hard and everything her life entails. vi is such a deeply family-driven person, guided by those values of protection that vander instilled in her (even if it was wrong of him to place so much responsibility on her as a literal kid—but we’ll get to that later). right here, cait is finally able to understand what drives vi’s heart. without this, she probably would’ve kept seeing vander as this bloodthirsty beast instead of what he really was—a man, a father, who above all wanted to protect his daughters.

caitlyn and ambessa's relationship portrays an interesting parallel that i haven't seen anyone talk about. at first, i couldn't see the significance of their relationship beyond the obvious narrative of a puppet dictatorship, but then i remembered the scene between mel and ambessa. mel asking her why she sent her away, and ambessa saying that she couldn't stand the look in mel's face whenever she made the decisions she thought was necessary to protect her and their family.
and this mirrors cait and vi's relationship in s1 and s2 act 1. from the very beginning, vi directly confronts cait's beliefs and biases about zaun and it's people. in their first interaction, cait says "in what mad world would i trust someone like you?" and vi instantly is pissed off by this comment (rightfully so). cait has already been made aware that there is no record of vi's incarceration, and can infer that she is being held without probable cause. vi tearing into her about that comment makes cait question her previous notions about not only vi, but about the other possible innocent people from zaun that are wrongfully imprisoned.
throughout their story in zaun, cait's ignorance is constantly confronted by not only what she sees in the undercity but by what vi tells and shows her about herself (like her childhood home). cait's value for honesty allows her to build a trusting relationship between her and vi. she begins to value her insight and relies on her to help make pivotal decisions.
cait even listened to vi when she asked her not to kill her sister, jinx (despite knowing how dangerous she was), and this unfortunately led to the death of her mother. throughout s1, vi is the source of her strength towards her conviction to find the truth. however, for the first time, vi was her weakness, and that weakness led to irreparable consequences.
after the death of her mother, and the eventual attack at the memorial, we see that vi has become an emotional anchor for cait as we see her slip into her old biases of the undercity. when cait calls the zaunites "animals", vi is there to remind her that they were trying to get a rise out of her, trying to remind her that the attack is independent of zaunites. we also see that vi is constantly checking on her and asking her not to change, seeing that her anger and grief are making her slip from the old cait that she knew.
this all comes to a head at the end of s2 act 1, when vi stops cait from shooting jinx due to isha's presence. when she tells vi that she's no different than jinx, she not only has fully slipped back into her prejudice, but she is subconsciously pushing away the last pillar of reason she has, vi. cait believes that this path to revenge is the best way to protect her people and to honor her mother's memory, but how can she make the difficult decisions when the one person she loves constantly questions her? and that's what makes her and ambessa's relationship so fascinating. just like ambessa, cait couldn't make the decisions she thought was best to protect what she cared about the most because she couldn't stand the look in vi's eyes: concern and fear. ambessa understood that vi was cait's weakness, just like how mel was hers. she knew that maintaining cait's isolation from vi (as stated in s2 act 2) was essential to maintaining power over cait and subsequently piltover and hextech.

Here’s a quick review of the amazing opening of Arcane season 2:
Vi seems to be struggling with her identity / Loss of identity
Vi is wearing the tank top that I believe is the one she wears under her enforcer uniform. That’s the outfit she’s wearing throughout the opening.
Jinx, who was hiding behind, rises and steps into the light—maybe a way of showing that she’s grown symbolically, that she’s now 'bigger.'
Ekko with his shadow resembling a clock winding back time.
Caitlyn is shown in her turtleneck (also what she wears under her enforcer outfit ? ), With a curtain to suggest a stage, she takes a deep breath before stepping into the light with a fake smile. Honestly, if I analyze it, we can say without much risk that she's in inner conflict, that she has to step into the spotlight and is showing a different face from how she really feels.
There’s so much to say about the other scenes, but others will handle that perfectly; I have a special focus on CaitVi (😂). Here they are again in the same outfits—the turtleneck and tank top. It’s an interesting way to present them, and there’s a lot that could be said, which I won’t go into, but I wanted to point it out. Cait and Vi are more vulnerable in these outfits; it’s very intimate, as are all the shots with them in this opening. We’re really in deeply intimate territory.
The looks are very intense, filled with hatred or something else? (my poor babies).
At first, I thought they were kissing, but now I think they’re fighting. They could be kissing or strangling each other in that shot; it’s hard to tell. In both cases, it’s very interesting because this little backlit scene with its colors is very intense. And, as I read elsewhere, very lesbian flag.
And Caitlyn is still struggling, with her shadow looking like the Evil Queen, I think (lol 😆). And the effect on her hands gives the impression that she has blood on them.
And I really like this shot because that's my Caitlyn; she has the look of someone who’s realizing, who understands. And maybe she’s coming back to her senses? So, there you have it—just my initial thoughts. I was so awestruck by this new opening that I just had to watch it again and again.

“You’re half made of oil.” “It adds character.” “It adds dirt.” “I didn’t realise you were a germaphobe.” “We're sharing a bath.” Vi’s response to that is to slide down into the water until she’s fully submerged. Caitlyn laughs. She laughs. After a moment, Vi comes up for air. The shampoo has left her hair, and whilst the black hasn’t completely washed out, scarlet peaks through the void like sunrise, and Vi seems all the brighter for it. She slicks her hair back out of her eyes, and Caitlyn hates how much the make-up smudged around the powder blue really does add character. - Vi cranes her neck to look at her once more. It’s just at the same moment that Caitlyn is pulling the cloth down her neck and over her collarbone. She watches Vi’s gaze catch on the movement, watches her lips slip open. Caitlyn’s hand stills. And then she takes a chance. - The one where Caitlyn attempts to wash the darkness from Vi's hair, and from their past.
the fic is here!
might have a caitvi fic in the works…..

also, i think it's very interesting how that friend of vi who she met on the streets of piltover immediately gets out when he sees caitlyn is accepting what ambessa is proposing. he gets that it's not about saving people, that what ambessa wants (and caitlyn is going to do) is targeted violence, on top of a structural system that created this mess in the first place. she's now only seeking revenge.
and can we talk about how Vi and Caitlyn on the lore were always Vi punching and asking later, and Caitlyn being the most "careful" one, and now in Arcane we're seeing the absolute opposite? i think that's so fascinating to watch because, especially with the little lore we have, when making headcanons, a lot of ppl put vi in this position of carelessness and caitlyn reasoning her. but right now we're seeing the complete opposite because Vi had years to put her anger out in prison (bc of very unfortunate situations), but caitlyn not only is a person that is out in world while in her anger phase of grief, but also is on an authority position and has free access to weapons and is being manipulated by someone who is exploiting her anger to the extent of using outside army
#also i guess this is what happens when you don't study to understand the structural exploitative system folks#at the first tension you get blinded by anger to the point of dehumanizing ppl who were already being dehumanized#also I'd like to know how the show is going to handle this#bc i don't wanna have implicit messages which is frequently the case for a lot of media dealing with those topics#they very frequently don't go where they need to go. and we only have 6 episodes left so#I'm really curious and tense about ir#but we'll have to wait#screaming crying going insane#arcane#arcane season two#arcane s2#arcane season 2#arcane league of legends#arcane series#arcane show#caitlyn kiramman#arcane caitlyn#caitlyn arcane#vi arcane#arcane vi#caitvi#caitlyn and vi#vi and caitlyn#violyn

Amanda (writer of Arcane) said: (She's asking Cait for the impossible. But that's what grief does to you🖤)
Even the writers and actors explain the impossibility of the situation, and these kids still don't get it.
These people literally forgot what Caitlyn went through and are now calling her a fascist cop and a dictator. Just bc she wants revenge on the person who ruined her life and also wants to protect her people.
#Shouldn't Silco be a dictator too? He abused his own people and flooded the whole of Zaun with shimmer.#But oh I remembered because Cait is a cop she should be dictatorial and not get trauma. man what excuses do these people come up with 🙄#Literally what does being an enforcer or a cop or whatever. and an adult without being traumatized?#trauma is trauma no matter what#caitlyn support#caitlyn defender#caitlyn#caitlyn kiramman#caitlyn arcane#arcane caitlyn#vi#vi arcane#caitvi#arcane vi#caitlyn and vi#arcane#arcane season 2#jinx#arcane league of legends#arcane netflix#league of legends#ambessa#ambessa medarda

caitlyn is too absorbed, blinded by her growing hatred and rage, driven by the need for revenge. she loses even the instinct to protect herself, gripping her gun tightly, not even noticing that vi is right beside her—ready to give up everything for her.

although brief, cait and maddie's very first scene in s2 act 2 reveals a lot about cait and how she's dealing with the death of her mother and her breakup with vi.
at the end of act 1, vi tells cait that she's acting like jinx, the very person cait is trying to protect herself and piltover from. up until this point, cait valued vi's honesty and forwardness because she constantly challenged her beliefs and ideals, allowing cait to grow out of her sheltered and narrow-minded upbringing. she often confides in vi when making drastic decisions, and almost always follows vi's suggestions like when she suggested they leave the rest of the team to go after jinx alone.
during act 1, cait truly believes that what they're doing (releasing the grey, incarcerating anyone related to silco, and risking shooting a child) is what's best for piltover's protection and honoring her mother's memory. but her certainty wavers as vi tells her that she's becoming the very person she swore she would bring to justice.
at first glance, maddie is pretty inconsequential to the narrative (especially since the series isn't over yet), so seeing her with cait at the beginning of act 2 was quite jarring. however, their conversation made me realize why cait chose maddie to rebound with. throughout their conversation, cait expresses her frustration with how long the occupation in zaun has lasted. maddie offers her advice, saying that she has the power to stop the occupation and reinstate the counsel. cait emphasizes that jinx is the reason she must continue, and that ambessa has taught her so much. maddie relents and just reassures her that she is in charge and that she will follow her. and there in lies the crux of their relationship.
i often heard fans bring up the power imbalance between cait and vi and cait and maddie. vi and cait often exchanged ideas without holding back, allowing vi to be on equal footing for most of their relationship (aside from the end of s2 act 1). she was not shy about putting cait in her place when it came to her actions and beliefs. on the other hand, maddie does not challenge cait at all. instead she offers unquestioning loyalty. only telling cait what she thinks she wants to hear, and never confronting her about how she's handling the uprising in zaun or her relationship with ambessa. maddie was even the first enforcer to start beating her chest with her fist when ambessa nominates her as piltover's leader during martial law. she's clearly very idealistic and optimistic (like during her conversation with vi in s2 act 1) and maybe even a little naive.
whether it was conscious or subconscious, cait sought comfort in someone who would reinforce her ideals and decisions in an attempt to suage her guilt about her mother's death and the occupation. in that moment, she wanted someone who would support her decisions even if they were morally and ethically wrong.

Caitlyn’s rage is sooo interesting and I’m really liking the way there going with it.
Because rage and grief isn’t something you just get over in a matter of time- it’s something that’s all consuming, something you think about all the time. The combination of the two, grieving someone you lost and wanting to get revenge for them is something that would inherently make you act out of character. This is best displayed when Caitlyn is talking about the two things running through her head, Jinx, and her mother.
Because Caitlyn HAS been acting out of character (rightfully so), and this is so well highlighted at the end of episode 3, the fight and the CaitVi breakup.
I think the scene where she goes to shoot Jinx and the kid is there, Caitlyn is STILL willing to try and shoot Jinx even if Isha is there. In Caitlyn’s mind, she wasn’t going to shoot Isha- but I think it brings up a point of do the means justify the ends??
And than with the breakup scene, Caitlyn refers to Vi as Jinx’s “blood”, which imo was Caitlyn looking down on Vi for being from the undercity and also being related to Jinx. And than Vi compares Caitlyn to Jinx, which leads to Caitlyn hitting her.
Caitlyn hitting Vi honestly really surprised me, Caitlyn for the most part is not a violent person or a person who typically lashes out with violence. I feel like this again things up the “do thr means justify the ends” it’s clear Caitlyn is willing to hurt the people she loves for revenge- and so I’m interested to see how her character progresses !!! Especially since characters like Ambessa, are egging her on for the first.
So exciteddd to see her character progress further 🤞🤞
