in the cold weather, he’s taken you out for more holiday activities and hot coffee/cocoa trips than he can count on all fingers and toes

he’s always sharing and giving up his warm winter clothes for you when you “forget”

when the snow starts falling in heavy, fluffy flakes and you ask for him to take pictures of you, he can’t help but let you know that you’re the most gorgeous girl he’s ever seen.

is it the cold that’s making his cheeks so pink, or is it something else?

“yongie, look how pretty the park is! can we go take pictures please?” you turn to him, bouncing on your feet excitedly. in the distance, you’re pointing to the park that’s blanketed in so much snow it’s like a winter wonderland.

he follows your finger and nods, allowing you to lead the way. you skip all the way to your photo spot of choice, being a tall pine tree covered in fluffy snowflakes. you hand taeyong your phone before bending down to pick up the snow in your bare hands, posing for the camera. immediately upon hearing the shutter, you switch poses, putting a bit of snow on your head before giving him a heart pose.

taeyong snaps another photo, his cheeks and nose pink as his mouth hangs open slightly. his breath fills the air with soft white clouds, yet he doesn’t feel a thing due to the warmth of his cheeks. pocketing your phone, he puts his gloves over your own hands all while avoiding eye contact.

“you looked so pretty in those pictures.. i think i might have to put them up somewhere!” he tries to sound fully invested in the moment, but as you lead him to another photo spot he’s feeling incredibly pensive, your beauty among the glittering landscape too much to handle.

for the longest time, he thought it was just admiration, and was fairly casual about his emotions towards you.

however, after mentioning you for the thousandth time while you weren’t around, the idea of a crush was brought up.

with some serious pondering and a little bit of denial, taeyong realizes that it might be true

thankfully, he’s got a loving friend who will help him come out of such stupidity

“yes, and then after we went to-“

“taeyong.” doyoung cuts him off, holding his hand out to signal him to stop.

immediately he flushes, rubbing his neck. “what..? i wasn’t talking for too long, was i?”

the younger sighs heavily, mouth shaped into a flat line. “you were. you’re seriously embarrassing yourself, yong. you talk more about her than anything else.”

taeyong sinks back into his seat, feeling almost like a child caught in the cookie jar. so what he likes talking about his best friend all the time? he’s proud of their relationship, and thus of course will brag about it often. he thinks about you all day? well, you’re the person he hangs out with and sees the most, of course you’re going to be on his mind a lot. his positive and extremely affectionate attitude towards you is totally normal. very casual.

“so, what? she’s my best friend. anyone who’s a good friend will talk about them with pride.” he mumbles, looking anywhere but at his friend.

“that’s really what you think this is taeyong? you’re sure that this is all platonic admiration? you’re not in love or anything?” doyoung sounds like he’s truly scolding the other, but they both know it’s coming from a place of good nature where he’s really just teasing.

like in the movies, taeyong hears the words ‘in love’ and all of a sudden they’re repeatedly echoing in his mind. visions of him admiring you and hanging out with you wobble and rotate through his mind, and pictures of you smiling at him come into rotation. if he wasn’t already spiraling due to these thoughts, he sure was now.

“if i am in love with her.. how do i know? are you sure this isn’t just normal friend feelings?”

bsf!taeyong who starts plotting the minute he’s sure of his feelings.

it’s literally the day after his conversation with doyoung that he sees you once again

now that the idea of a crush is in his mind, the feeling in his chest upon seeing your face might actually not be normal

after he drops you back home, he heads right out to the store, going gift shopping for you another time, this time for gifts a little more romantic

your day of celebration is in two days, so he’s got some time but his plan needs lots of time to be thought through.

gifts and a heartfelt letter in tow, he heads back home to think of the big thing: how to do it.

with doyoung on speakerphone, he leaves his phone on the coffee table while he sits on the floor next to it wrapping your gifts. admittedly he went a little overboard, but if his confession goes well he has to show his gratitude somehow, right?

“i don’t know, doie, i’m scared. i don’t think i should do this..” taeyong whines, pouting heavily as he re-folds the corner of your wrapping paper for the fifth time. it keeps wrinkling, and he won’t settle for anything less than a crispy fold in your favorite color wrapping.

the other sighs, and it can’t be seen but he’s running his fingers through his hair in annoyance. “taeyong, you’re starting to aggravate all of us.” he’s referring to the rest of their friend group, who have all said the same thing. “you’ll never know how she feels if you don’t try.”

he curls into himself, squirming as anxiety courses through his veins. “but still.. if this goes bad i think i’ll die.”

“it won’t trust me. even if she says no, which i have a feeling she won’t, it’s not like she’s gonna cut you out. your friendship is too strong for that.”

even if doyoung is lying for the sake of comforting the other, it really does provide some reassurance. the worst that will happen is you saying no, so it’s worth a shot. even if the fear of rejection is strong, your relationship is strong enough to not break even with something like this happening. or, at least he hopes so.

bsf!taeyong who finally starts organizing your holiday date, the same one you have every year, however with more of a romantic intent behind it.

every year, you and taeyong go on a “friend date” for your day of celebration. rather than spending it with family or friends, you reserve it for each other.

last year, you went on a simple date to see your city’s holiday tree and shop around, and this year may be similar, but it’s a little more fancy.

you’ll be visiting the tree once again, however there’s something a little more special coming beforehand; dinner!

it was quite a struggle to find somewhere open on the day of, however it worked out and he spent quite a pretty penny on reserving the best place he could find.

since reserving a table at the nicest restaurant in the area, taeyong’s on around night three of feeding on whatever random snacks are laying around and cup ramen. he always spends his money on you, but the holiday season gets impossibly worse. of course, he’ll always make sure to have the funds and will never go without, but one day he might seriously go into debt if this keeps on.

sitting on his floor (it’s becoming a theme to sit right in front of the couch rather than on it), he stares at the wall while thinking of a plan on how to make his confession. ‘step one,’ he thinks, ‘take her to dinner. that won’t be anything new, so there’s no reason to freak out.. yet. step two.. visit the tree. should i give her a compliment while we’re there? ugh, no, too cheesy… just be regular. step three, hopefully it’s dark outside so we can take some pictures together. then, once they’re done, just say it. i’m madly in love with you and have been basically since we’ve met. no, scratch that! running away and crying is the only option !!!’

of course, these thoughts are very far fetched, but if the almost painful furrow of his brow isn’t evidence of his hard thinking, nothing else is. he’s even written a letter that’s safely tucked into one of your gift boxes in case he chickens out. he’s thought of every possible outcome, even the highly unrealistic one where you start sobbing while chicken dancing. he’s really so nervous, so much so that his heart pounds every time he thinks about it. every possible effort he can make to make sure everything will go right has been made. even if you reject his advances, only the best will be given to you.

bf!taeyong who gives you the best set of gifts you could ever ask for.

your day starts out with him coming over to your house, where he brings you breakfast and watches as you get ready.

next, he hands you your gifts, all wrapped in paper of your favorite color and characters.

when you try to open them in front of him, he immediately flushes, putting his hands out and begging you to wait until you part.

after that, he takes you out to dinner. it’s very cozy, jazz music filling the restaurant as you eat together. his hand brushes yours multiple times, but you pay it no mind.

finally, you visit the tree together and… see for yourself :)

night has fallen, and you and taeyong stand in front of the large holiday tree, sparkling with lights and glittering ornaments. it’s always your favorite sight that comes with the holiday season, and it’s even better now that you’re sharing it with your best friend. he’s given you the best day you could ask for, and as you pose in front of the tree for him to take pictures for you, you’re wondering what could’ve warranted this treatment.

taeyong lowers the phone, taking a deep breath before stepping closer to you. your name leaves his lips with a heavy breath as if he’d been holding it. “can i tell you something?”

you smile, nodding your head as he takes your hands. “of course! what is it?”

your eyes are sparkling with all the festive lights around you, and he’s losing his breath. “there’s something that i’ve been thinking about for a while, and i think i’m ready to tell you… is that okay?”

you’re face immediately turns to a look of concern as you place a hand on his shoulder. “always, bubu. you don’t have to ask, is everything okay?”

he looks away, fidgeting with the seam of your gloved hand. “well, i, uh.. i really like you, a lot. romantically… and of course, if you’re uncomfortable with that we can pretend i didn’t say it, but i really needed to tell you.” he rambles.

immediately your smile grows bigger as you wrap yourself around taeyong in a hug. “oh, really? thank goodness, because me too! i like you so much too, bubu, and i was planning on telling you soon too.”

immediately he’s releasing his breath once again, reciprocating the hug so tightly that you’ll never be able to get out. “really? then, can i give you one last gift?” his eyes are so big, glossy and glimmering with so much hope and love that your heart flutters.

when you nod he pulls a card out of his pocket with a small box taped to the front. when you take it from him, you open the box to reveal a necklace with a dainty rose charm hanging from it. a soft gasp leaves your lips and you immediately take your gloves off to put it on. taeyong would’ve helped but his hands were so preoccupied with fidgeting out of anxiety that he didn’t even think of it. opening the card, it’s got a gift card to your favorite store and a message on the other side. it reads, ‘to my favorite person in the whole world, will you be my girlfriend?’

you pocket the gift and with a glowing smile you nod your head, wrapping your arms around his neck with a smile. “yes, yes of course taeyong! i’d love to be your girlfriend.” you back up, your face a short distance from his as you admire his smile that mirrors your own.

“oh thank goodness, i was afraid you’d say no..” his eyes flicker to your lips, “well.. i have one more present to give you, if that’s okay?”

your eyes trail down to his lips as well, and before you can even fully nod his lips are on yours. his kiss is gentle, lips soft yet cold as they connect with your own. it’s so sweet, the way he kisses you so softly yet long enough to know he’s not dreaming. under the festive lights and light snowfall, he shares his first kiss with you. it’s safe to say that it’s one for the books, and something you’ll never forget as you do this for years to come, your favorite holiday now becoming your anniversary with your best friend.

most people found it weird how much attention you showed jann. after all, he was close enough to a nobody.

all these unattainable standards set by messy, emotional, little humans. i mean, if you wanted to see jann, why should anyone try to stop you? you liked who you liked, and it's not like you could help it. besides, jann was sweet, cute, and ambitious. in your opinion, he was the dream guy.

you two would eat lunch together, walk each other to classes you had during the day, average college couple stuff. you never let anyone give him a hard time, and whenever you attended a social event, he was by your side (whether he wanted to be there or not). he attended all of your [sports] games, etc. the coupley stuff wasn't the weirdest part to people. the weirdest part to people was that you chose to do the coupley stuff with him. you had lines of guys and girls waiting, patiently. stalking and clinging, nagging and hanging--yet you chose him.

Short version: yeah, everyone but Rath, Nettie, and Apikusis suck lol

Long version: everyone but Rath, Nettie, and Apikusis suck, BUT you can see several who are having doubts about what they're doing, and many of them come back to themselves once Halsin returns.

There were, I think, multiple things going on here:

By his own admission, Halsin wasn't a very strong leader. He never had leadership skills taught or modeled for him before becoming Archdruid, and further, his promotion was under incredibly traumatic circumstances. The survivor guilt, the admiration he had towards the previous Archdruid, likely left him not wanting to fully engage with the role out of fear of replacing him or at least seeming to do so.

The refugee situation was noted to be causing stress at the Grove as supplies were dwindling (I guess we're supposed to forget Goodberry is a spell ANY Druid can do, lol). This would have not only sown resentment against Halsin and the refugees for putting them in this situation, but crucially, it would have given an outsider enemy for the Grove. Cults (like the Shadow Druids) operate at their strongest when they have a threat, or appearance of one, to unite members and potential members under. "We are the only ones who can keep you safe from these outsiders who may be from hell itself, who are using all your supplies and contributing nothing, who are the reason you're being attacked by goblins every other day." And Halsin, as much as I love him, showed poor judgment in going with the goblins at that precise moment, and with little explanation to the others. It shows where his heart and priorities are- always with the Shadow-Cursed Lands first- but that would not be an endearing things for his stressed Druids.

Kagha not only fell in with this cult, but unfortunately, she had a lot of what Halsin was lacking as a leader- she just chose to use this skills for evil. She was persuasive (something Halsin admits he wasn't so good at), she presented herself as being concerned with the group's welfare in a way Halsin wasn't quite able to do (since his heart was elsewhere), and her zealotry seemed preferable to the other Druids in contrast to Halsin's mixed attention.

This cannot be understated: the Grove was deliberately targeted by Ketheric Thorm. He knew from experience that the Grove posed a significant threat, and he ordered his underlings to make contact with the Shadow Druids and send them to the Emerald Grove, to either persuade them to carry out the Rite of Thorns or at least cause so much division that the social bonds collapsed entirely and the Grove was left too divided to be able to accomplish anything. Ketheric and the Shadow Druids were able to find all of the above weaknesses and exploit them effortlessly.

So then it became a game of scapegoating, which is a favored recruitment technique of cults. "We're here because of the Other, and because our leader was too weak to fix the problem before it got this bad. We need a new leader; a leader who cares only for us and isn't afraid to tell the truth about these immigrants refugees who want to destroy America our Grove by leading gangsters and drug lords goblins right to us! Build the Wall Perform the Rite of Thorns!"

No one is immune to propaganda and everyone is a potential target for cults. It very well could be that all of the Druids, even Kagha, were once genuinely kind people who were manipulated by the cult into believing their kindnesses would get the Grove destroyed; they took on the "it's us or them" mentality.

For the timeframe to work, it either would have had to be happening in secret before Halsin left, or Halsin would have had to be gone for a while; since we know it wasn't TOO terribly long but hadn't JUST happened either, my guess is that Kagha had been spreading Shadow Druid doctrine in secret for some time, and had been planning to usurp Halsin's position even if he hadn't been kidnapped. That just made it easier once it happened. (There is a formal process within the Druids to challenge an Archdruid for their position; I don't know if Halsin even would have fought Kagha that hard if she kept her true intentions a secret. He had faith in her at this point after all, and didn't want the leadership position. That's a terrifying thought.)

So, then, Halsin comes back, and sees evil ideas spreading in all his Druids, starting with Kagha. Depending on the player's actions, he may or may not know it goes deeper than her. He can also see that his reputation has been severely damaged, if not ruined, in his absence; almost none of the Druids have any respect for him anymore. So he makes the wise decision to bring in Francesca, who they have no choice but to respect, and backs away himself. At this point, he intends to return someday when the Druids have been deprogrammed, but of course, later he decides it's not worth it anyway.

So back to: how bad must his life have been surrounded by that? Well, as mentioned, my headcanon is he wasn't surrounded by it very long, if at all. He thought everything was just normal, until he got back from being kidnapped and quickly found it very much wasn't. Whether that's better or worse, though, is up to interpretation. What's worse- seeing those you love fall victim to a cult, or thinking everything is completely fine, and then one day discovering they've been sucked in deep and there's nothing you can do to persuade them anymore since they've come to see you as The Enemy?

In any case, Halsin deserved much better, and I like to think he keeps in touch with Nettie, Rath, and Apikusis after the epilogue, even if he keeps his distance from the Grove itself.

You're not responsible for that person's actions; if you werent going to tip them off, something else would have (assuming the series of events did go down how you said it did). It was only a matter of time before someone called the trend problematic anyway.

Plus it was funny to get accused of fetishfarming and harassing artists just to see all the reblogs be along the lines of"yeah that would be really bad IF IT WERE to happen" and "oh i should look out for that" and "woah is that really happening?", because that post was moreso making up a problem to get upset over and most people instinctively recognized that that wasnt happening at all. There was also a vaguepost about it that got some traction, which I admired.

Fetishfarming would be more like asking for a closeup of Sniper at the dentist, or requests for Medic preparing Heavy for surgery (implying Heavy would be shirtless). All the asks in that trend were literally based on being extremely forward and direct with what the asker wanted, the opposite of fetishfarming or artist exploitation.

Requesting art isnt harassment-- it becomes harassment if the artist has asked you to stop or has otherwise indicated that they wont partake in the trend or wont take requests and you still choose to send the request. I heard through the grapevine that some people think art requests were entitled and exploitative, which were also the arguments used for that fetishfarming post and MAYBE a much earlier and long-forgotten post about the heavy tf2 tummy anon (dont quote me, though), which is just plain wrong. Requesting art in any way isnt entitled either (unless, like said before, the artist has indicated they do not do requests). Thats what having a public art account is like. i am SO glad you liked the snow scene; i think it's one of the scenes i'm proudest of as a writer, but i remember being really worried in the moment that it was too weird or OOC. but folks have been super encouraging and lovely about it, which i am so wildly grateful for.

hihi!! you asked for my thoughts on stormbringer after i finished reading it, so i'm here to say what few coherent thoughts abt the book i currently have because oh my god that was life changing in the best possible way. genuinely considering buying a physical copy for myself now.

i love how much more fleshed out chuuya was as a character, and the dynamics between him, verlaine, adam, and shirase were all extremely compelling to me. like i didn't expect to come out of this liking shirase but AUGH the character development from him was not something i saw coming. AND ADAM'S DEVELOPMENT OHHH MY GOD. what if i exploded in the best possible way i ended up loving him a lot.

i also found some of the bits we saw from dazai to be extremely fascinating.... like when he tells verlaine that he'll mourn over his birth rather than his death. augh. and the skk dynamic in this book was so. they're both insane in the best possible way. ESH you two are perfect for one another etc.

funnily enough i came out of this book with verlaine being my favorite from it. something about him is so incredibly tragic in a way that always gets me specifically. like him just sitting and mourning rimbaud. oh my god. oh my god. also the amount of sympathy he showed towards chuuya's clone despite thinking he was a human is so. gah. i need to re-read stormbringer at some point this book is absolutely amazing

haiiiii i hope you didnt mind me in your replies throughout the liveblogging, stormbringer is probably my second favorite arc, second only to the mersault/airport arc which goes crazy of course.

what i admire most about stormbringer is bringing in this cast of characters that perfectly exemplifies the theme it is very explicitly telling you it is diving into. it creates incredible tension because you know how this plays out from the beginning. chuuya will discover that he is human. the thing in question isnt that, its what that means to chuuya, and what it means to you.

so you have adam, a non-human with human traits. N, a human with inhuman traits. dazai, who questions whether those "inhuman" traits are inhuman at all, or if murder and torture are perfectly human, but also dazai, a human having a lifelong existential crisis of what that means. verlaine, a non-human who lived a human life for a time, and who rejects doing it ever again.

and chuuya. and stormbringer isn't necessarily about whether chuuya is human or not (its obvious that the conclusion will be that he is human), its about what that means. and where everyone else falls in that world.

are you born human, or do you become human through living passionately?

and the rest is history. dazai trusting chuuya, chuuya trusting dazai. suffering, and fighting back. vengeance and forgiveness. whatever the fuck rimbaud and verlaine had going on.

"disgrace, huh?" <- i think about this line dozens of times in a day. what do you mean by that dazai? what exactly are you feeling about this person who literally by the hand of a god completes your plans, whose hands you put your life in at every chance because he puts his in yours, and who helps you understand your own humanity through his struggle with his own? if chuuya's true form isn't a disgrace, what might it be?

im tired of gay people. adam frankenstein is incredible and i want him in the ADA right this minute. i love him so much. "i get to protect you. i couldn't ask for more." putting aside the skk of that sentence, thats love, isnt it? the most passionate thing you can do! adam's ability to follow his heart makes him, in my opinion, human.

a/n: this was inspired on a poem that really did a number on me, but then i fell in love with the idea i was creating so i might turn this into an au! of course, there’s no one else i can picture but her. this is a bit long, so sit tight.

<3 college club leader! reader. vet school! students ryujin and reader

what a strange home.

no white picket fence, but it does have two brown eyes

you never understood how people could fall for someone’s eyes. sure, some people had incredibly beautiful eyes, but that was about it. no other pair of orbs had ever captured your attention but hers.

they’re warm, welcoming and so understanding. you had a feeling they would stick around for longer since the moment you stumbled upon them.

“hello! i’m y/n. the leader of the organization. just to let you know there is no pressure to sign up. but im here to help if you have any questions” you had already started talking as soon as you felt the presence, you hadn’t bothered to look up from the pamphlets you were purposely scattering to make presentable. and when you did, you regret having done it so late.

because there she was, bright, doe eyes paying all the attention to you as you speak.. and then she nods and gives you the most delicate smile you’ve ever seen. you are mesmerized.

she proceeds to run her eyes across the many photos and informational pamphlets before grabbing one and skimming through it.

“how exactly does this work? we just rescue animals and help them survive?”

“well, im glad you asked” you had to gulp once out of your trance and nod, opening one of the white binders close to you. “do you just like animals or are you majoring in something close?”

“both” she smiles softly, she looks like she’s dying to speak of it, like she’s truly passionate about her career choice. “im in my first year of vet school, you?”

“sophomore” the warm smile you send back has her ears turning hot. “okay, so. i don’t know how far you’ve been oriented, but we have a shelter just out of campus. it belongs to us, but that way visitors won’t have to come over and can just focus on finding the right companion”

you keep showing her photos of maps and different angles of the shelter, both inside and out. when you look up, she’s already admiring you, but she nods to let you know she’s still listening.

“right, on campus we have a clinic, anyone from freshman to seniors can join our club and in said clinic we treat the animals we rescue, once they’re healthy and happy, we transfer them to the shelter”

“wow” she chuckles in awe, covering her mouth and swallowing hard as her eyes water at all the before and after pictures.

“yeah” you chuckle with her, enjoying the view. “we also gather a few times a month to hold fundraisers and adoption centers for both alumni’s and not…” you lean over the table and put a hand on your mouth as if to tell her a secret “you’d be surprised how many ra’s turn a blind eye to students with pets”

her eyes widen as she nods slowly.

“so, have i caught your interest…” you let her finish the sentence for you

“ryujin” she smiles again. “and yes. you have. where do i sign up?”

“here you go” you hand her a sheet and a pen “ryujin, has a nice roll to the tongue.”

“thanks, apparently it means strength and nobleness” she smiles as she finishes writing her full name and phone number (per the sheet’s request) “so, y/n. just a sophomore and you’re already the leader. care to discuss how you pulled that off over coffee?”

it’s your turn to get shy and hot. both your ears and cheeks as your smile goes to an o shape and back to a smile. “i don’t mean to be a buzzkill, but i have to be here until five?”

“that’s okay, i have a class at three, maybe i can help you clean up when i’m done and we can head from there?” she watches as you take half a second to think it over and nod.

“it’s a date”

no hardwood floors .. instead, a soft voice

“morning” you had given ryujin a spare to your dorm a few months ago, and every day since you were grateful for your decision, because most of the days she was able to come over a hour before her class and wake you. sometimes she would make you breakfast at her own dorm and bring it over, sometimes she would make right in your own kitchen. “come onnn we have animals to save”

you found it amusing how ryujin flipped your world entirely. you didn’t expect to die alone, you were just content with finishing your studies before focusing on the right person. but the idea of having someone to spend your life with, but they also adored you and looked at you like you put the stars in the sky felt blissful.

you chose to think your love for your career choice was what drove you to wake up so early every morning, but deep down you were aware her voice did most of the heavy lifting.

also, you never thought anyone could love your major more than you, until ryujin. you were so excited to see her everyday, even more so when it had to do with animals, she was so attentive and she really tried to look for any option that would cause them the less pain and anxiety.

like today, your team was scheduled to meet early in the morning and inspect an alley for sick kittens, according to the call you received a few days ago. you were never, ever prepared for what you encountered there though, countless kitties from all different breeds, in inhumane conditions.

“oh my god” ryujin’s voice cracked “c’mere baby, i’m gonna help you. i promise”

in her mission to get one cat’s attention, another also approached. but of course, ryujin offered her embrace to both. they were her responsibility now, just like the three little ones at your feet were yours.

ryujin stood by both of the kittens’ sides as they got all their vaccines, dewormed, spayed.. she sat with them and sometimes sang them to sleep, or she’d cuddle them, tell them about your days together.

and you just watched from afar, too inlove with her to do anything else, you knew from the way she spoke to them she would be home for them too.

no huge backyard,

but it has hands big enough to completely wrap around mine.

no one knew how hard it had been for you and ryujin other than you and ryujin. no one could put themselves in your shoes but each other. no one knew about the late nights you spend making flashcards or asking each other questions. the nights ryujin spent crying because her patients had spent another month at the shelter without any possible adopters. but it had the better moments, of course.

ryujin adopting byul and dallie, moving to your own shared apartment out of campus, meeting your families over the holidays. and just the many, many memories you made together as a couple.

so to have her waiting for you at the other end of the stage after you had just received your diploma brought you all that more peace than just finishing five years of hard work. the way she held your hand and telling you how amazing your speech was, about all the pictures she took while you were on stage. just the pride emanating from her body like a scent, or a vibe..

you were home.
