i will start with something i like....percy being angry. like yes give me the anger of a 12 year old who feels utterly alone in the world and doesn't understand (or does and it makes him more angry)

the fight scenes are dog shit. the only kind of cool one was in the arch but it was only cool because of percy doing the bait and switch and falling through the arch...the fights are bland boring sucky whatever other synonym you wanna use

uhhhhh sally jackson is not and would never be sitting in the rain pining of the god she told to leave....and especially not to teen pop...if she WERE going to act like a 16 year old and do the pining thing it would be to fucking like...billy joel and ricky martin and donny hathaway and stuff llike that okay...

i will preface this by saying that yes i understand that talking back to an abuser the way sally does in ep 1 doesn't make the abuse less abusive....however i DO not like the fact that that scene explicitly goes against sally characterization in the books....i am not digging my book out atm but the part where percy is like "my mother has never raised her voice or said an unkind word to anyone"....me thinks the writers all read the books 10 years ago and are going off of memory alone + or their brains are so clouded by the obsessive Big Screen Need to make women a badass girlboss slay queen i fucking hate it here

and it reaaaaaally sucks. total drama has what i consider a pretty good cast of diverse female characters. And sure, a lot of the time the show doesnt do them justice (they were robbed as many many MANY people say) but a lot of them have so much potential and all of them have at least SOME potential. but ofc, due to how theyre treated in the fandom, no one really cares about them outside of them being paired up with men. and even worse, people will just straight ignore them outright a lot of the time because they 'get in the way of their mlm ship' or some bs.

10 Anti LO Asks

I can't even trustt this "cute" moment between zeus and artemis bc rachel is just way too anti zeus and too big of a fan of "twist" villains that I just have the feeling she's going to use this as a stepping stone to set up artemis the next villain because idk she doesnt like hades still and be like oh what BETRAYAL of persephone! now both of the twins should be punished now! or w/e.

2. It's not just that a time skip is lazy and out of place, if you're just going to flashback to explain what happened anyway, then don't do a time skip? Just show the progression as you already have done? Why skip ahead only to jump back? She's basically trying to do too many things at once and none of it is done well.

3. the wild part to me is has rachel ACTUALLY read the old texts? because they're way more progressive than her work. demeter's hymn praised her and persephone while calling out the abuse of men, women like aphrodite (who has a ton of sex with many partners) or artemis who didnt have sex were all held to high respect and never shamed for their choices, and stories like the odyssey/Iliad explicitly called out slavery, yet rachel is here in 2022 being ore conservative than men from 800 BC. like???

4. A time skip in LO isn’t a bad idea in and of itself. We’ve been complaining about RS’s slow pacing for years and she’s finally taking a different approach, which is good! The only problem is that her execution of the time skip ends up leaving out integral and interesting details about how the characters’ relationships with each other have changed in the decade since we’ve seen them. I was looking forwards to Minthe and Perse reconciliation arc but we don’t even know how they grew to that point

5. I love the her current look is a "turn off" line tho bc it's both persephone being aware hades is a gross old man who only dates under 25 years olds but doesnt seem to linger on this realization (P is legit so stupid) but also that rachel has zero self awareness that shes not a very good artist bc persephone still looks exactly the same despite being ten years older. like rachel will just say whatever lie she thinks up despite direct contradiction in comic and be like wow im such a good writer

6. Out of all things wrong with LO, I don't think I mind the switch from serious to silly in the mid-season premiere chapter? The part where Zeus gets threatened with ConSEqueNCEs for punishing Persephone is dumb as hell, but the transition to her speaking to the screen like she's talking to the audience before revealing something ridiculous is a tried and tested way of moving to a new scene, so I kinda like it. It's marred by her talk of pierced ears and green hands, but it's not bad.

7. How did you get into  Lore Olympus  in  the first place?

From OP: I found LO after seeing a lot of ads for it. I already knew of its existence but decided to try it because why not (I think I got into it around episode 70ish). I was obsessed with it, not solely because of the romance but because of the art. However, I started to question a lot of the stuff in the story and looked through youtube and tumblr to see if I was the only one feeling this way. Surprise surprise, I wasn’t and now I’m here lol.

8. I'm confused with the whole Artemis being called protector of women. You'd think she would do something to earn that title, but all she did was ask to be with Persephone in the mortal realm? It makes zero sense.

9. I know changing your physical appearance is sometimes an external sign that a change is going on internally but... did RS really have Persephone pierce her ears as the ONLY sign of her taking her life into her hands? I don't mind it as a heavy-handed metaphor but girl has done the bare minimum in ten years (a punishment she was happy with until they actually sentenced her with it) and you're telling me it's #girlboss because she pierced her ears???

10. What's so annoying about the timeskip too is it's not just lazy, it makes the last FOUR YEARS be for nothing. HxP relationship is exactly the same and their characterization is stagnant, big deals like Leto and Kronos are just swept to the side, Eros and Psyche was dropped I guess? Minthe and Daphne is resolved off scrteen, and the now the actual myth is supposed to start after FOUR YEARS of nothing happening? It's just a waste of everyone's time, but Rachel gets rich off of it at least 🤨

11. Have you seen any of the films? If so, which one is your favorite?

i have seen nearly all of the z and super films except for Super Hero so far + Dragonball Evolution (obviously) though i havent seen any of the Dragon Ball/GT films and i haven't watched any of the weird obscure stuff like the bootleg live action movie or The Real 4D just yet.

DBS Broly is definitely imo unironically like. The Best out of everything ive seen, like its just fucking Good and i have no complaints about it that aren't petty personal taste fare.

HOWEVER. "yeah dbs broly is good" is like the most obvious take in the world so i think it would be more interesting to talk about the stuff i'd rank just below it in terms of attachment (in no particular order)

firstly i dont care what anyone says, Wrath of the Dragon was fucking good. it didn't feel like a Dragon Ball Z movie and also Goku had literally no place being the character to get the final blow in on Hirudegarn, but if you meet it where it's at it's a genuinely very enjoyable and INTERESTING movie. Tapion is such a neat character and after most of the 90s Z movies just feeling like mindless boss battles it is SUCH a breath of fresh air to get something that feels more character-driven

counting the TV Specials as movies here, its not like controversial to call History of Trunks a favorite lmao, its just plain good. AS FOR THE OTHER Z TV SPECIAL. i am fucking mentally ill about Bardock: Father of Goku. i did not care about Bardock (or really Saiyans much in general?) until i saw him get karmically tormented by psychic visions and die a futile death against his own boss. now im obsessed <3

the og Z Broly movie was honestly one of the most enjoyable of the 90s Z movies and i understand why it got so popular. however at the same time my perception of Z Broly has been warped so badly that everything to do with him is hilarious to me. ive watched too many Broly MADs (BTW Z Paragus is probably my favorite movie antagonist tbh. while im glad Super Paragus is still a sack of shit im a little sad he didnt get to have as much of an outright villainous role in DBS Broly. at least what actually happened to him was funny)

im stanning Bio-Broly because no one else will. honestly it genuinely wasnt that bad, i found it fun and honestly melting the Broly clone so he immediately stops looking liek broly is HILARIOUS to me. part of me considering it a favorite is just out of spite for people calling it the "worst" Z movie when fucking BROLY SECOND COMING came right before it.

AND. LASTLY. OBLIGATORY DRAGON BALL EVOLUTION. ITS NOT GOOD BUT. BUT. if you cant tell by my fucking url ive become weirdly attached to it. every single detail of that movie and the stuff surrounding it is FASCINATING to me. its like reached a point where i get genuinely excited when i see it acknowledged somewhere in a way thats not just "ugh remember this? lol" some sick part of me has even started to enjoy Geeko as a character just for how cringefail he is. btw the PSP game is unironically fun (its running on the Shin Budokai engine so of course it is but still). someone buy me the scary uncanny Enterbay DBE statues please

ok i have a few things to say abt this

i LOVE sk8 i thought it was such a fun and exciting show and one(if not the only?) shounen-y skateboarding animes out there so obv it has moments of skateboard skills that r just not humanly possible but its an anime so. lmfao. but overall it stays p true to the heart of skateboarding!! awesome animation cool characters (except. well. we'll get to him) and just an overall eye catching aesthetic ❤️ v cool v swag v epic

there is ONE character whom i hate so dearly 🥰 i hope to kill him until he dies hes basically the hisoka of sk8 in which he is obsessed with a child due to their "skill" but its played in an almost romantic way and he calls them the EVE to his ADAM (his name is adam btw). so yea hes a freak i hate him sm if shit like that makes u uncomfy just. steer clear of this show i know there were some parts where i had to pause and take a walk around my bedroom bc i was so angry and uncomfortable when he was in a scene

putting THAT to the side, the show is also p focused on the whole bromance narrative so there r limited female characters and the one girlboss we DO get just putters around for a few episodes then gets kicked out like wtf 💀 its not my biggest gripe but it made me a lil salty lol

but id say despite that it is a v worth while watch tbh!!! i had so much fun binging the first couple episodes, then consequently waiting one week for every new one BDJFKNSKDOD i got hooked real fast, the main characters (reki (reki my beloved) and langa) have such good chemistry they r so fun and sweet together and the ensemble cast is amazing too, joe n cherry n miya n shadow deserve the world and more. ALSO. sk8 has made me laugh out loud so many times there r loads of silly moments to giggle at 🙏🏽

now moving onto the topic of queerbaiting...

first things first. there is a post out there somewhere talking abt this in better detail but i couldnt find it so i'll try to put it into my own words. u shouldn't rly look at sk8 thru a western viewpoint of whats queerbaiting or not.

in the western world, while still not as prominent or accepted as cishet relationships, lgbtq relationships r a lot more present, mainly bc they r allowed to b. now this is not to say that its sooooo easy to make queer relationships appear on the big screen, they still face a lot of backlash from ppl even IF the entertainment industry has made good steps in being inclusive. with this im just trying to point out that while still not normalized completely yet, lgbtq representation is easier to produce/consume

in this way, i personally dont believe sk8 was gaybaiting or queerbaiting at ALL. pls feel free to correct me if im wrong, im not the most knowledgeable on the subject, but it is arguably harder to produce or animate queer relationships in Japan, especially if its meant to be a shounen-type anime.

thru claiming sk8 is queerbaiting by not animating their two leads kissing or confessing to each other or whatever, u r discrediting everything else that makes reki and langas relationship so special. no they do not profess their love for each other under the light of the moon, but they are shown time and time again to care very deeply for each other, to push each other to b and do their best, they are shown to b very physically affection, to have have a strong bond built not only on a mutual love of skateboarding, but a mutual respect for one another

if u RLY wanna get shippy tho (not judging) there are a few moments that rly cement how much they like/care abt the other sprinkled throughout the show. i wont get into too much detail to avoid spoilers, but while one of the main characters is talking to his mom, she thinks he is asking her how to confess to a girl when he says he "likes the person." the same main character tells the other he wants to "skate infinitely" with him. which is pretty gay in and of itself if u ask me

so, from all that, i would say the producers, directors, animators, voice actors, and everyone who worked on this show did the best they could in terms of getting the ship as close to canon as they could what with all the restrictions they had to tiptoe around. i was pretty satisfied with the ending (bar the small complaints mentioned previously) and i know a lot of other ppl were too!! again, deffos worth watching in my opinion

this got kind of rambly so sorry for that but i hope this clears some stuff up, and if u end up watching it i hope u enjoy!

p.s. if u truly r desperate for ship content (again, not judging) u can always check the dub and the content that comes with it! the english VAs r very vocal abt their love for the ships in the show so u can get ur share of that from there ❤️

menorah and eli for is just enemies to girlboss/malewife there is no other way!!!! as enemies it's mostly one sided and doesn't really last very long. eli just minds his business and menorah is just annoying[affectionate]. i wrote a whole thing abt how their enemies to lovers transition would go but i decided to remove it and skip to the lovers bit bc it got too long. anyways they are. disgustingly domesticated. they are practically married. eli makes lunch for menorah, menorah constantly spoils eli with sweets, she brings him to malls just to dress him up and buy him shit it's like. wow ok good for yall. also i totally agree menorah is always doing silly antics with the other student council members and eli is always pulled along!!! he either goes as damage control or to clean up their mess and then go "your lucky i like you 🙄🙄🙄" or he's been bribed with the expensive kind of sweets bc ofc menorah has enough money for that and ofc eli is actually 100% on board what's the plan ma'am 🥺?

menorah and benji absolutely strike me to have the situation you've listed up there but also like. as part of a kaguya-sama: love is war type of situation. im gonna assume you've watched love is war so im just gonna go ahead. like menorah has way too much fun with goading him and benji will die before conceding and then it escalates to "i will make them confess your love to me!" on both sides bc both are doing mental gymnastics with benji thinking well, what's a more sure fire way of getting her to look up to me then getting her to love me and menorah thinking whats a more sure fire way to humble his ass then to get him so obsessed with impressing me that he falls in love with me? it drags on and on and on and everybody gets involved. i feel like benji catches feelings first. he catches them when he's gone too far with a scheme of his and is like. in a bind drowning or smth and menorah comes over to scoop him up and help him just this once and while menorah's telling him to do better he isn't really listening and is just staring at her thinking "wow,,, she's so cool,,," and now he's forever whipped.

hi yes umm okay so apologies if I've totally misinterpreted characterisation but here are some jumbled thoughts:

menorah and eli strike me as having a similar dynamic to cartman & kyle in terms of cartman gets into trouble and kyle tries to stop him. but with menorah and eli, I think it would be fewer manipulative schemes and more silly goofy antics. just like, menorah doing stuff like "hey we should totally hide in ikea overnight!!" and eli being like "we should NOT-" but then he goes with her anyway but only for damage control, of course. or so he tells himself. in reality she always gets him 100% on board by the end of it. and yeah, they may get into trouble, but at least they're going down together 😎

for her and golden boy benji, I think there would be a little more friendly rivalry. as a chronic overachiever, benji expects everyone to look up to him, but menorah is just like, "eh :/" and that really bugs him!! because he's so cool and awesome!! why doesn't she see that!! so he ends up doing stupid shit to try to impress her, but every time she's just like, "eh :/" and idk, maybe she goads him into doing more and more extreme shit, and even though he knows it's a bad idea, he's not gonna back down from the challenge!! and it escalates until he winds up breaking a bone or something. and then she sends him a get-well-soon card in the hospital and inside she's written "do better :/" and he's like DAMMIT

kinda obsessed with the micro culture surrounding the movie cruella on here specifically how i remember seeing a post about how the movie adding a backstory to her is an example of liberal politics “both sides-ing” conflict to present a puppy murderer as valid and when it was pointed out that she doesnt kill the puppies in the movie op then explained how its still problematic bc its “rewriting” a villain to be sympathetic or something to that effect. 

like the way that people are defensive of the integrity of these stories having right and wrongs to the point where a creative retelling that may be a bit corny is treated as an affront of morality. where the idea of spinning nuance into a relatively flat character and doing something new with her has to be problematic because it doesnt fit the mold of good vs bad. 

which if it was a story about how some dogs killed her mom and this is why she turned evil and how its a sob story thatd be one thing of poor writing, but it legit isnt? and never pretended to be. which isnt me saying you should have to watch the movie or whatever (for the record i pirated it tyvm) but that its funny how even in the singular clip being passed around showing the moment her mother died its kinda obvious that the movie has a specific tongue in cheek tone just by the way the scene is framed. literally just by the way the camera is set up and everything, so its buckwild to me that people would treat it like... seriously?

which tbf its just a singular scene, but then it becomes a thing where this scene is decontextualized from the rest of the movie has to be picked over and explained by the website as a whole to justify disliking a movie or a character choice which could begin and end with “i think thats kinda corny” but no it has to be deeper than that. which is fine to do more in depth analysis of movies even if its a silly kids movie, but what im fascinated by is how this analysis is then done through a giant game of telephone of nobody watching the movie and imaging the worst case scenario of the shittiest movie and shittiest villain retelling. literally just “make up a guy and get mad about him”

which is funny because the movie is actually fun. it doesnt take itself very seriously and its an interesting twist on an old story where i think the charas are actually pretty likable and i didnt guess a few of the plot points. the fashion is neat and the way scenes are set up using black and white vs color vs gray is fun to watch and i just loooove to see a girlboss winning bc unfortunately i am weak to batshit white women bc i think theyre hilarious. 

but like i keep going back to the way people are focused on the integrity of the story and the proper way to write villains bc the idea of adding a sympathetic backstory to an already established character is viewed as bad writing. separate from the “dogs killed her mom” plot point which would be bad writing if it was an actual plot point (which it isnt? theres more to it than that) which like “dogs killed her mom and now shes evil” is a funny idea to mock but its not enough to make fun of it bc it has to be attached to meaning about the purpose of villains which i guess is to be evil and do nothing else. 

like i think people forreal view the idea of giving villains sympathetic backstories as a form of emotional manipulation (all storytelling is emotional manipulation aka storytelling) and i loooove it because its then being applied to cruella which is just the funniest shit ever because you forreal have people being like “i dont know how to tell you this but killing puppies is bad and making puppy murderers sympathetic is bad” like the hoops you have to jump through to make these statements about a fun but forgettable disney movie ugh absolute fucking cinema of a website.
