AIGHT SO my first biggest and most prominent and by far the dearest headcanon to my heart (which is literally canon atp lol) is him being a medic! my bias for medical/ healthcare centric characters is showing lmao. sue me

as a medical student theres so much you learn about life and death both literally and metaphorically while studying. so many disciplines intersect with one another to create the art of healing, and albeit different from what is studied today, civilisations past had all sorts of fascinating ideas and concepts and cures and protocols when it came to health and wellness, ancient greece was no different!

to me he learnt all about medicine by shadowing the palace physician, possibly even being his apprentice, and benefiting from the royal library. courtesy of prince odysseus lol

(the lore i have isnt solid and still needs to be worked on, like for the oc twin sister i gave him hes the medic and shes the apothecary, but for epic purposes he serves as both lol. and is a childhood friend of ody and natives of ithaca. anyway)

and during troy he manages the medical tent and oversees it, leaving little time for actual soldier-ing, but dont let his kind smile and soft hands fool you, he can and will deck you before you can say suture.

something i see a lot of in the fandom with his philosophy of open arms is equating him to a smol bean whos too pure for this world and avoided fighting bc it made him sad uwu. and while he is indeed the most cinammon roll to exist i couldnt disagree more;

my mans lived through a decade of war u can bet his headband he slayed, literally and metaphorically, on the battlefield like it was nobodies business *snort*. he too has got blood on his hands and it isnt necessarily from patching up wounds.

if theres one thing medicine teaches you its both the beauty and tragedy that is life (and to me the wonder of creation); to know and understand deeply how imbalance affects the body and leads to illness isnt easy, studies have been shown that those in healthcare experience the pain of their patients.

being in charge of the livlihood of others can be extremely draining, bedside manner and taking the patients psychology into account are crucial and factor into the healing process. being a medic is no simple feat and needs a lot of resilience and healthy coping mechanisms to avoid burn out and a myriad of long term problems.

anyway all this to say if anyone dares to say polites is weak or innocent i will disembowel them with a rusty spoon. i havent reached my clinical years yet and im already done with everyhting. i can write volumes abt this honestly but this is getting long enough already lol

back to post troy when polites tells odysseus to take it easy "do yourself a service, and try to relax, my friend", in my heart of hearts the way i see this is as polites recognising how much damage ody has been dealt during the war, being hypervigilant and ready for combat at all times takes its toll on you and he sees that; "look at how you grip your sword, enough said", right after he advises him to extend trust and start with kindness.

the reason being the outside world isnt a battle field and he (along with the entire army ofc) needs to ease into society and life beyond war. now polites being a medic one of the things he exercises is compartmentalisation (which u need to stay sane. source: me) and this is what he teaches ody. "here we have a chance for some adjustment"

life is indeed amazing when you learn to greet it with an open heart and mind, and even tho we all know the fates are much less benevolent, i fully believe its still an important mentality to embrace and in many ways a skill to hone.

"id like to show my friend that kindness is brave" this is conjecture on my part but i like to think polites is reaffirming to ody that kindness isnt a weakness but a strength, again not out of naivety but of wisdom and experience, that doing good is more rewarding than not, but esp this next bit:

"i see in your face, there is so much guilt inside your heart so why not replace it and light up the world?" i will cry if i think about this too hard, but in essence poli has diagnosed so to speak ody and its has prescribed and walked him through a regimen of compassion and leading with peace.

odysseus has masterminded a decade long war, where he had to use trickery and guile and lies and strategy to win and make his way back home. ig its up to you how u want to see how odysseus deals with the pain and trauma of war and the suffering hes played a part in (if were sticking with epic we know fs that his actions haunt his days as seen throughout the musical esp via repeating motifs) and its taken its toll and polites bless him is guiding his friend through his grief, a grief he is no stranger to. ofc hes skeptical at first "thats what wed get with pen arms" but follows through with the philosophy and the rest is history lol

in all honesty i have no idea how much mental health and the psyche featured in the epics nor to what extent it was studied in ancient greece from a medical point of view but this is my interpretation i can do whatever i want let me have this pls :')

AND THEN we get to the ithaca saga when le suitor proposes to ody to have open arms instead, lots of posts circulated abt polites passing out in the underworld bc of the violence and generally disagreeing with odys iconic "no." and to those people im shaking u by the shoulders and begging u to understand that polites is wearing war paint and the stupid foam finger with #1 monster scribbled on it and probably deafening tiresias as he watches the carnage.

hi i havewords to share. the seitei war info from this chapter is propaganda (kagurabachi 66 spoilers kinda)

okay i dont really post much analysis or long textposts on here (i usually share my bachi thoughts on reddit) so um. bear with me. also if anyone wants to add or refute a point i make idm! im not the Most knowledgeable on these things so

^the pages i am talking about, for reference

first i wanna start by talking about real life. for anyone reading this that doesnt know yet, kagurabachi’s story is about japan’s atrocities in ww2, it is anti-imperialist. history textbooks glorify the military especially, and schools just dont explain the war in depth and for the most part this contributes to making japan look better. there is a lot of glorification of japan as a completely “perfect” country, even from the citizens themselves, because they dont have anything deeper than a basic understanding of what happened during ww2. i read something on this for an ap lang paper, so i’ll link it if anyone’s curious (idk how to access this without jstor, sorry!): The Glorification of War in Japanese Education by Saburo Ienaga.

now how does this relate back to kagurabachi ? at first glance, the info about the seitei war doesnt really seem like its propaganda, and its easy to fall for what these pages are trying to make you believe— that the people on the shokoku are the enemies (ive seen it happen on twitter). but actually examining the pages, its very vague. like it just talks about “the invasion” it doesnt say like Who invaded What if you get what i mean. the vagueness is intentional, it shows there is something about the war we dont know. chihiro is only just regurgitating the surface level information he knows about the war to iori, who only also has that surface level knowledge (since her memories got wiped). both are victims of this censorship i mentioned before, it’s supposed to reflect the basic education japanese people get about ww2. it says the blades and the master swordsmen “wiped out the enemy” but who really Is the enemy? if the people of the shokoku really were the enemies, why was there graffiti on samura’s walls saying he’s a murderer, despite being regarded as a hero in school? why was kunishige so reluctant to tell chihiro about the war?

so honestly i think that it wasn’t really a war it looks like it was kind of more like. a genocide. it makes sense, theres a lot of recurring events in history where the gist is “strong country invades other country and destroys the natives of other country in order to exploit/take something”. land, materials, etc (in this case it would be the datenseki). it lines up with samuras betrayal and his goal to kill all the swordbearers, it lines up with kunishige frowning whenever shiba told chihiro stories from the war, it lines up with even shiba being hesitant to reveal what really happened in the war to chihiro and shatter what hes known for his entire life to keep him safe, and probably many other instances i cant think of rn

as a closing thought: based off the information we have now, the closest thing i think parallels the seitei “war” from actual history is the pacific war during ww2

Despite not seeking them out, seeing that mark was the only thing that he had to grasp onto sometimes. It felt familiar and felt like home.

One brush across his wrist was enough for him to start his day but never preoccupied his thoughts for too long lest he wanted to bring himself a shot of angst in the beginning of his day. 

But he couldn’t help the stray thoughts that would come sometimes when the day would be too idle. What did she look like? They say that your soulmate smells like the scents that attract you the most. Would she smell like fresh ambrosia? The potency of a fresh summer day? These questions stalked Steve when the days ran long and the nights became darker by each hour. Suppressing them became harder the more that he carried his mantle as Captain America. 

Witnessing his team, feeling the camaraderie, even seeing Tony and Pepper just reminded him of what he was truly living for– he wanted to serve and protect. He just never gave thought about himself, or to consider building his own life personally until after the blip. As everyone frantically looked for others and found them again, he realized the importance of being someone other than Captain America…of being important to someone. His soulmate.

There was a new vigilante on scene– every time that he’s sent an agent to apprehend said Enhanced, they seem to always slip right through their fingers. Until today.

Steve watched the masked vigilante calmly center themselves in the middle of the armed room – and with a gallant wave, the contents of the room that once sparkled expensive jewels and gems vanished leaving stark, blank empty display shelves. 

The robber’s face flashing a grainy smirk through the lens of the video, with one last wave of their hand, they disappear from view as if they were never even there. 

Watching the feed one more time, Steve couldn’t help but release his own smaller smirk at witnessing the thief in the act once more. FRIDAY promptly pulled up news headlines next to the feed to reveal in huge bold font:

for my own gratification bc i just ran into nie mingjue hate in the wild, would you mind making a post that defends my poor good boy? he worked so hard and got gaslit to shit before getting murdered terribly ;; literally everyone sat there telling him "youre being too harsh" and he's just responding appropriately. like yeah, if you witness a murder, ya kinda got to do something about that as a clan leader. its kinda your responsibility, even when you care about the person who did the murdering. he was also a really young when he took on the role of clan leader and idk, it just made me rlly sad to see people dunk on him cuz wtf he's literally just trying his best in an impossible situation WHILE being perpetually fucked over by his clan's own traditional cultivation cuz now the stronger he is as a leader, the closer he is to going literally insane and dying bc of it. (mingjue did nothing wrong i will die on this hill) ((sorry for going on a tirade, im just sad and defensive of my good boy rn))

Oh no! I'm so sorry you had to go through Nie Mingjue hate! Truly tragic. I went through that once when in the beginning of me reading the books, when I still had no proper opinions, and never again.

I'm more than willing to make a post about Nie Mingjue! I'm always down to talk about Nie Mingjue tbh, he's my heart and love and if I were to have been given the opportunity to be his right hand person, I would have simply never betrayed his trust and married him. Rip Jin Guangyao but I'm different.

Anyways, I, huhhh, actually think you?? Covered it all??? Pretty much?? Yet I will talk about it. This will be long and non-coherent, because I don't have the books rn to find quotes in them and honestly, I could write essays on Nie Mingjue either way.

Nie Mingjue is a central piece of the narrative, despite the limited amount of appearances he made, and the fact that he wasn't close to the main characters at all. The entire second part of the plot revolves around him- it happened because of him. His murder is a tragedy; literally, by greek standards, man has Cassandra Curse all over him, so I don't get how people can tell me, confidently, that his death was warranted. I've been told the man had asked for it, and this has mostly been by Jin Guangyao apologists.

So let me make something real fucking clear.

Nie Mingjue did not deserve to die. Let's get that out of the way, anyone can fight me on that. Nie Mingjue had more good qualities than half the people in this fucking story, despite his flaws. After his father was brutally murdered when Mingjue was only in his teens, Nie Mingjue stepped up as clan leader. We can only speculate the hardships that await someone leading a clan at such an early age. Yet, political challenges weren't the only thing he had to battle; Nie Mingjue knew about his clan's harmful cultivation, and he knew he was going to die young. So what did he do? His best. Literally his best, always. He was always giving 100% of his abilities, because that's who he was.

Let's talk about who Nie Mingjue was, shall we?

When Jin Guangyao, still Meng Yao then, describes Nie Mingjue, he finds himself perplexed, because Nie Mingjue isn't like other men. He is not frivolous, and he has no vices; Meng Yao describes how Nie Mingjue never showed an interest in arts, or alcohol, or women. All he did was train, and fight the Wens during the war. It shows that he had a one-track mind from the start, and has got a strict discipline; yet this strictly disciplined man, leader of a clan that prizes strength, continuously indulges his lazy and undisciplined half-brother, his one and only heir, despite not understanding his interests. We gather, pretty quickly, that Nie Mingjue is a bleeding heart for his brother, and for the ones he loves in general. We see the same softer side displayed in the presence of Lan Xichen, and of course, for some time, Meng Yao.

People seem to think Nie Mingjue took Meng Yao's betrayal too harshly. As if somehow seeing a man he thought to have been just and honest commit premeditated murder, then cover it up, was something he was just supposed to get over. To this day, I can't believe how Lan Xichen was so understanding of it. But not only did Nie Mingjue catch him in a cowardly act - Meng Yao proceeds to manipulate him, using the fact that Nie Mingjue cared about him, to stab him in the back. Or front, however it happened. I get that Meng Yao was in a difficult position, that he suffered at the Jins, that he felt backed in a corner; but Nie Mingjue was a man that had extended his help to Meng Yao before, and even then, he went to find Meng Yao in righteous fury, ready to help him again. To Nie Mingjue, the idea that Meng Yao "had no other choice" but to kill - to kill in the manner he did - it could have been nothing but a betrayal.

One thing that I personally highly respected Nie Mingjue for was the fact that he did not judge Meng Yao for his background. This is not up for debate; Nie Mingjue stood up for him, quite publicly, quite vocally, when Meng Yao was being insulted over it. And not only that, but he promoted Meng Yao to be his right hand man, just like that. Because he's impulsive, and to prove a point, but it was still huge of him to do. Otherwise, Nie Mingjue would have killed his former friend, then followed him to whatever afterlife awaited.

Nie Mingjue is often portrayed like he doesn't understand stuff, like he's stupid, simply because of his black and white sense of morality. That's not correct: Nie Mingjue understands motive, but he doesn't accept the ends justifying the means. Scratch that, he doesn't accept or justify either, if they're unjust. The murder of the Jin commander, the murder of the Nie disciples, not executing Xue Yang - how can Nie Mingjue possibly understand Meng Yao's decisions, when Nie Mingjue would rather die, any day, than live thanks to vile actions?

And then, Nie Mingjue starts falling into qi-deviation. We know that it affected his temper the most, and his judgement. I don't understand how it works, really, so I don't know by the end how much was Nie Mingjue and how much was the mess that the spirit made of him - maybe a combination of the two. But what is certain, is that the rapid qi deviation changed him.

But I could write a hundred more pages on him, meticulously going over every single scene he has ever appeared in, because I find him that interesting. I find him the most interesting, and the most appealing character, because in a story where the navigation of the cultivation world's complex politics and hierarchies with tact and diplomacy is crucial, Nie Mingjue stands uncompromising in his principles, choosing duty and honor over anything else, even when it's hard.

when i’m trying to use a more plausible color scheme for everyone in my MCD rewrite (since it’s going to be set in a more underdeveloped time period, a lot of colors are going to be expensive/hard to find) and can’t decide what colors to give certain people 😭

im obviously gonna keep some of the original colors in the beginning (like Lord Burt wearing red because of its significance as a powerful color), but keep everyone’s else’s mostly plain. for example Nana won’t be an explosion of pink (although it will remain her favorite color), Aphmau won’t be wearing purple as often (the most common variation of the color was tyrian purple which took a very extensive amount of labor to make even one gram of the pigment. that, as well as the color being reserved for royalty), and Laurance won’t have as many green articles of clothing in the section of my rewrite portraying season two (the emerald green pigment was made from arsenic, which made it not only extremely toxic to produce but to wear as well as the skin would absorb the poison)

(i’m still debating about Dante and Garroth with their blue tones because it was a more common color amongst the poor people and was made with cheap, low quality dye, but Louis IX and Henry VIII started wearing it with other nobles and it became a color of high standing so…)

now this is also where I also come to a standstill because of these colors and what they used to represent. each Divine Warrior will have a color associated with them, which is where part of their symbolism will come from. however, I’m stuck on what color to give Irene

there’s a very brief clip somewhere I can’t remember when it appeared, but Irene was wearing a black two piece that seemed to be torn. I imagine this being something like her “first” outfit in the world so i’m not too worried about that one, but I’m more concerned about the one she wears when she’s portrayed

we see Irene wearing two cloaks from what I remember (my memory is garbage and I have yet to reach that far in anything). one of her cloaks was royal blue and the other is a lilac purple. the lilac purple would be a more difficult hue to achieve in the time period i’m reaching for, so either way i’m going to make the purple into a deeper shade.

i’m having such a war in my head about which color to choose for her, though. because both colors could signify who she is and i’m honestly debating just having different people give her different colors but I don’t know

on one hand, tyrian purple was a color reserved for royalty. using it could be used to show the high regard in which people in Ru’aun placed her. it could be used to signify their desire to have Irene rule as queen over the region before she diminished the monarchy and developed the Lord system instead. however, this color was made from a tiring process that required extensive amount of labor for barely anything to show the effort, and I feel as though the way to obtain the color doesn’t represent Irene the Matron

on the other hand, I feel as though a deeper blue pigment would be a better match. blue was original worn by peasants but the steady popularity it gained with nobility made it a more expensive and luxurious color for people that could afford it, as I previously said. this color I feel would fit better with her character to show that Irene came from humble beginnings and was put on a pedestal after her efforts for peace and becoming Lord of Scaleswind (which would be equal to blue becoming a color of nobility). the only problem with the blue is that the dye used by the peasants was low quality made from the woad plant that (from what i’ve seen) was dyed much lighter compared to the royal blue i’m talking about. i don’t know, maybe she got an upgrade at some point…

both bc like. in trying to make anyone who would ever want a low calorie meal sound like an idiot that person just ends up sounding really ignorant and patronizing. i might go on a short rant here and pls keep in mind that as someone who has been fat my whole life and like. pretty traumatized by fatphobia and medicalized weight loss shit im not advocating for diet culture as a whole but like

ok first of all. not everyone is an idiot i think most people who want low calorie meals know more or less what the function of a calorie is. unless someone is like. idk, anorexic and on the verge of death, they probably comprehend and accept that they need calories every day to function and stay alive.

obviously i'm against framing of calories as inherently evil and something to be avoided at all cost. but like. there are reasons someone might want a meal that is filling and high in protein but low in carbs. just because calories aren't the devil doesn't mean the only moral mindset to have is "i must have as much as possible." especially when it's a detriment to someone's goals with their own body.

it honestly just feels like another side of the moralizing health and diet coin- obviously not as harmful or powerful as the mindset of fatphobia, but like. idk. i think there are mentally healthy and body neutral reasons for someone to lose weight.

cuz the thing is, we're still not really sure was kipperlily wants? ("egg on my face for wanting something"). sure, she's trying to run for student body president, but what exact rules is she hoping to implement, and how does that relate to trying to resurrect a rage god? plus, grix attacked ruben because he/his ritual were a direct threat to the existence of the school, which seems counter productive if you're trying to become president of it.

and what cause would kipperlily specifically have to be tied up with a rage god anyway? there's nothing that clearly on the surface ties a little type A halfling rogue to a fiendish god of rage and conquest, hell some of the other members in her party seem like on the surface they would have a closer tie to it (like both of their now dead clerics, mary ann who literally harnesses rage, ruben who is full of teen angst). kipperlily's apparently been filled with rage since freshman year, but why? (is she like riz, who spent his whole life infected with an aspect of the nightmare king and literally grew up with this seed of doubt inside him? did something similar happen to kipperlily?)

ankarna is the goddess of justice and the conviction to act when they see something unfair. no matter what, i think kipperlily truly believes that she's witnessed something unfair. and it feels significant to mention that this last murder is an escalation on the rat grinders' part. the other people who have ended up dead around them (lucy, yolanda, the original hosts of frosty faire) all seemed to have died indirectly as a result of the rage crystals and the uncontrollable rage it inspires. this is the first time we're seen stone cold premeditated murder, done with simply a blade and betrayal.

honestly, this transition seems to mirror what ankarna herself went through, starting off as the goddess of conviction and justice but slowly transitioning to one of conquest and war. brennan said something about ankarna, "yeah its nice to have someone like that on your side who will stand up for you, but you better hope that person is always right". i think what we're seeing now is someone with that same conviction, but with a misguided cause.

kipperlily's crossed a line now and i wouldn't be surprised if she doesn't end up redeemed by the end of the season, but i'm still interested in how she and her party were motivated to do this in the first place, because like you said i don't think a normal adventuring party would've ended up here. it takes a lot to transition to multiple murders!

Inazuma Japan noticed that Kiyama and Mido sometimes tend to not answer them whenever they say their names, so they would say their alien names. When the two do reply by their alien names, they would yell "WRONG TRY AGAIN!" bc they are Not Gran and Reize anymore and they have to learn to not reply to those names

As for "The reason why InaJap was so nice to kimido was because of Dark Emperors" hc, it sorta came to me out of the blue while rewatching s3, Mido and Kaze are good freinds despite aliea and my hc is that is the reason why everyone warmed up to them – if DE didn't happen, Kaze wouldn't feel like he understood what Reize had to go through ans that feeling of inadequicy that followed them, if this makes any sense. The whole "they're complete opposites of each other" bit is mostly based on my other headcanons, but also from Shuugo's recruitment needs + kariya's canon behaviour. (shuugo's talks for the both of them, and kariya in turn, insults people for fun)

Shuugo likes to fist-fight people btw, he's nice and calm, but he has anger issues, and when someone pisses him off bad he'd start fist-fighting people, which is pretty often. (Kariya in turn, gaslight people. for fun. like father like son, I guess?)

Nagumo taught both Shuugo and Kariya curse words.

Shuugo was the one who came up with the idea of Masaki transferring to Raimon (the moment he joined the soccer club, shuugo went through all five stages of grief at once)

oh yeah kariya and shuugo have a sibling-like relationship. idk if you can tell from all the previous hcs.

literally no one knew that they know each other, so one day during the match of raimon 1gun vs raimon 2gun in s1 of go, they started talking to each other post-match and everyone was just "????? since when ???" and the revelation that kariya is an orphan and shuugo knows him because his cousin(??) is the "owner" of the orphanage opened,

also because of kariya and shuugo knowing each other, the two of them (along with ichino and aoyama!) sorta become the bridge between raimon 1gun and raimon 2gun! they have a lot more joint practises and team 2 are able to play in official/friendly matches!

Also fun fact, Shuugo was supposed to have a character arc similar to Hikaru's when he was first introduced in the sequel for go s1, aka, Chrono Stone, but as we can see that never happened. Anyways, i totally do NOT have a whole ass plot and am writing a fic of this for myself. nope, Nuh-uh.

Hiccup stares at Dagur, heart beat loud inside his ears. Dagur is here! Here on dragon island while they are trying to do a sneaking mission!! Dagur had just excitedly recounted their last encounter, recounting Hiccup ‘fighting’ the night fury. Which… yeah…

But now Dagur is pointing his sword at Hiccup and Hiccup feels conflict bubbling up within. He had not agreed with his father’s choice to hide the dragons from the Berserkers. And while he is still a bit afraid of Dagur from their time as children-

“So ... what are you doing here?”

Dagur’s words intteruopt his thoughts and Hiccup stutters mentally while stepping back from the sword, fingers flexing on his shield.

“What am I doing here?

Dagur takes another step forward, face starting to shift, but to what? It is a little hard to tell in the dark.

“Don’t answer that! I know EXACTLY what you’re doing here.”

Hiccup feels a flash of guilt and worry. If Dagur found out they had lied he would go to war. But how could he not eventually find out?? They were at war with Alvin using dragons! And any traders that came to their island saw the dragons. Maybe…maybe this is a chance to do something. Something Stoick would not approve of.

“Uh, you-you do?”

He stutters.

“Oh yeah, I do. You’re here for the same reason I am, Hiccup. You’re here ... to hunt dragons!”

Hiccup flinches back and takes several steps backwards. Oh. Oh no no no. Dagur is hunting dragons on dragon island while they are trying to do a sneaking mission on said island while their dragons were hidden on the other side.

“Thats… Uh.. Actually no.” Hiccup is going to make a choice, to reveal an inevitable truth, because while only the heir of Berk, he knows that his loyalty is to dragons first. “You see Alvin's decided that he hates my tribe existing and he might train dragons or just send plain old wild dragons against us, so me and my ... Friends are here trying to successful pull of a fake sneakingt mission on this island without our dragons.”

Dagur starts nodding along.

“Oh fake missions are a great pra- hold up, "our dragons"?”

Dagur looks a little wild in his eyes that are full of offense. Hiccup sighs and sits down on the log and pokes the fire with a nearby stick. He stares at it instead of his probable doom.

“Mmhmm. Alvin attacked us and our dragons were the only thing that got us out. And I figured he'd spread the word, so I'm not gonna do like my dad asked and lie to you. We have dragons. That fight you saw was staged to save the twins’ Zippleback.”

Dagur sits down heavily. He clenches his hands tightly.

“Your dad?”

He asks.

“Mmhmm. It wasnt my plan. If it was up to me Id never send Toothless away. But Dad keeps making me and honestly… Im so tired of not being allowed my best friend at my side.”

“Toothless?”

Dagur just sounds dazed. Better than pissed.

“The Night Fury. Would you like to meet him? Knowing him, hes probably worried enough to start looking for me after Tuff stoped paying attention.”

“I could meet a Night Fury?!!”

Dagur sounds genuinely exited and maybe Hiccup can win him over.

“Yes. But you have to promise not to hurt him.”

Dagur takes a second and then puts down his sword.

“Fine. Yes. Let me meet the Night Fury!!”

Hiccup nods and then tilts his head back and lets forth a roar he had learned from Toothless. Dagur starles and burst into laughter.

“I had no idea you could make that noise!”

Hiccup flushes and rubs his neck. Dagur still makes him a little afraid, but he feels safer knowing his best friend is on the way.

“I practiced a lot with Toothless.”

Hiccup replies.

“What sort of name is Toothless anyways?”

Hiccup is about to answer when Toothless leaps from the shadows, over the fire, and tackles Hiccup off the log, licking his hair vigorously before turning to growl at Dagur. Hiccup stands up and gently rubs his friends head.

“Hey, hey, its okay bud. Hes… a potential ally. We really dont want a double war. So lets just say hi.”

He croons to Toothless who sniffs the air and then huffs in a way that Hiccup knows that Toothless is going along with this because Hiccup is the one asking.

Dagur is staring.

“He understands you?”

“Mostly, a lot of it is guessing and being around each other all the time. Here, give me your hand.”

Dagur does and Hiccup brings Dagur’s hand to Toothless’s snout. The hand is shaking ever so slightly underneath Hiccup’s. Hiccup gently guides it into a smooth petting motion and Toothless purrs. Dagur lets out a half laugh that might be nerves or derangedness. Hiccup decides to go a step further.

“I could probably convince him to let you ride with me… but only if you promise me something.”

Dagurs head jerks sharply to look at him, but Hiccup feels steady with toothless right here at his side.

“What?”

It is a whisper, softer than Hiccup thought possible from the older teen.

“My… I don't think a war on two fronts is Berks best interest. I know my father lied. I don't think it was the right choice. And I'm hoping, that as his heir, my truthfulness can repair this broken trust. So if… if you want a ride you must agree not to go to war and kill my people or my dragons.”

Dagur blinks and stares him in the eyes. They stand in silence for a moment, breathing slow and measured.

“I think I can agree to that. As allies, we shouldn't be going to war. But I want to redo that treaty! We never signed it properly with all the lieing and messing around.”

Dagur says and Hiccup deflates in relief.

“Okay, yeah, I think I can get Stoick to-”

“Nonono. I don't want a treaty with that old fart. I want it with you.”

Dagur taps Hiccup's chest. Hiccup flushes.

“But I'm not incharge of Berk?”

“Your incharge of dragons. Much cooler. And more powerful to be honest.”

Dagur says with a broad grin. Hiccup sighs.

“Dad won't love that.”

“I can get rid of him if you'd like!”

The offer is genuine and Hiccup quickly shakes his head.

“I'm not ready to be chief and my dad really doesn't deserve to die.”

“Just give me the word.”

Dagur shrugs. Hiccup shakes his head and slips onto Toothless’ saddle.

“Right. Uh, thanks. Now, that ride?”

He offers his hand and Dagur hesitates for a moment before climbing on behind him.

“You're going to want to hold on.”

He warns and is surprised that Dagur's grip is gentle on his waist.

“Ready.”

Dagur says and Hiccup hums.

“Alright bud. Let's go!”

And then they launch straight up into the dark sky. The grip shifts to a hug from behind as they climb higher. Toothless lets out a happy roar and Hiccup cannot help but roar along. They spiral upwards and then Hiccup croons and they are diving quick and fast to the inky black waves that are silvery where the moon touches. They glide quickly across the crests of the waves, stirring up a fine mist. Dagur whoops and lets out a Berserker cry.

They climb again and then they fall backwards flipping head over tail. Hiccup is laughing from adrenaline and Dagur laughs too. Toothless warbles and straightens into a dive and shoots a plasma blast. They burst through the plasma heated air and crash into the water before rising back into the air. Water makes the fast winds colder but neither boy cares truly.

They then rise high and float among the moonbeams as Dragon Island rests far below.

“Amazing.”

Dagur whispers in awe.

“He is, isn't he?”

Hiccup croons and scratches Toothless.

“Yeah. And you too. I saw that pedal action. That seals it. I'd like you to teach me to tame dragons.”

“... Let's get the treaty issue all sorted and then maybe.”

“I'm going to make it part of the treaty. You're so amazing.”

The grip around his chest tightens for a moment and then Dagur speaks again.

“Think we can do a few more dives? We should avoid the northern shore though. That's where part of the armada is.”

Hiccup blinks for a second and then puffs his cheeks. Of course the armada is here. Dagur is a chief after all.

“Sure. Toothless and I love trick flying. Honestly, sometimes I wish I had less responsibility to the tribe so I could do it more.”

“I know the feeling.”

Dagur whispers. Hiccup feels a flash of sympathy. It must be rough. Eighteen and having everyone look to you as a leader to guide them through. When all Dagur seemed to want to do was have fun and fight. Dagur was not ready for chiefdom. He reaches down and pats the arm encircling his chest.

“Well, let's just forget responsibility for now. Okay?”

“Sounds good Hiccup.”

And then they dive.

hmmm i dont have bluesky so i cant say i have a firsthand account or anything, but if i had to guess i would probably say its better than twitter. idk about fandom toxicity exactly but from what im aware of, it hasnt exactly died down on twitter so i dont think its as though very many people have moved to bluesky and made it toxic, at least not to the degree twitter is. my bet is that those kinds of people are going to stay on twitter for as long as possible since that’s where they have a platform

i. technically have a twitter account, but thats just so i can go on there and look at slimecicle tweets without twitter telling me to sign up every 2 seconds, so i couldnt really tell you all that much about the etiquette. best thing to do imo is lurk for a little while and get acclimated to how people talk wnd interact (thats what i did for tumblr and i like to think im doing pretty well)

honestly my best advice is to go for it! make a little account, make an intro post (do people do those on twitter/bluesky? idk just put a link to your carrd or something in your bio lol), look around for a bit and once you get comfortable make a couple posts. and if people start being dickheads just block them - its your best bet to stay away from toxicity i think.

zhang xiaotian ( Rh1 ) is really just kind of existing.

the family business is all about that construction and steel manufacturing life, hence the chiseled jaw and aversion to manual labor.

he's spent the majority of his youth in a boarding school for wealthy wayward youth, following in his brother's footsteps since it seems to be a rite of passage for this family ( ...plus the kid just couldn't stop setting shit on fire and that really did need to be addressed in a structured environment ).

his brothers have been in this intense game-of-thrones-style rivalry his entire life and honestly he's just here to vibe so he doesn't really get involved ( except for this one time, but it was all alleged and mostly just some nasty rumors that he played a minor role in spreading but that's beside the point ).

said rivalry is pretty much what got xiaotian heading to snu in the first place ( along with father dearest's cash money ). casualty of war and all that.

the king's club is probably the only club he's managed to stay in throughout the entirety of his college career.

and it's not for lack of trying. he did all that he could to sabotage himself, lose friends, and alienate others and yet here he is your 2016 white rook ( his initiation was seriously lacking red carpet fanfare but its whatevs ).

on the bright side he had more fun tormenting initiates than he does embarrassing his father publicly, so he didn't mind sticking it out long enough to barely graduate ( below average ayyy lmao ) and roll into the nice cushy job his eldest brother created for him because we love a little nepotism.

ii. information you didn't ask for but you're going to get anyway:

certified yapper. physically can't shut the fuck up. believe about 82% of what comes out of his mouth.

would totally sleep his way to the top if he could. but for now he's satisfied with just sleeping his way into whoever is willing to let him crash at their place until he figures out what the hell is going on with all of his credit cards ( he suspects identity theft or something ).

his hobbies include long walks by the han river, spending exorbitant amounts at luxury grocery stores on random weekdays at 2:15pm specifically, and minding your business.

thankfully, he has grown out of his klepto phase but is not opposed to showing off his skills like a fun party trick when needed.

is completely capable of reading the room, but actively chooses not to. the whole no-filter thing doesn't really help either. his favorite pastime is figuring out how to offend each member of the king's club in a new and exciting way.

thinks cilantro tastes like soap. not really all that important, he just thought you should know.

oh, and it's probably a good idea to keep him away from flammable materials.

iii. some present day tidbits:

currently manager of operations for one of his father's smaller materials manufacturing subsidiaries but honestly he could not tell you what his title means or what it is exactly he's supposed to be doing. he just kind of sits in on meetings and looks handsome, but he's boosting morale and that's kind of all that matters.

is pretty late to this whole case reopening news and really is trying to figure out how everyone found out about it before him. who started the groupchat and why was he not invited?

now what happened to hyungseo was unfortunate, but he had nothing to do with it. he might've said something to try to shake him up in passing during one of the rituals, but there wasn't a single recruit he hadn't messed with back then. and even if he did know something about the whole thing, it's not like he'd tell it. at least not the truth about it. in fact, he doesn't even know what you're talking about. what rituals? what club? ...by the way can he borrow some money for the bus — kidding, kidding ( it's for his rideshare actually he just figured out how the app works ).

iii. information for plotting purposes?

if it wasn't obvious i'm still figuring this lil guy out, but i think it's best to plot on a canon-by-canon basis? but just to throw some random plot ideas out there —

blasts from his past with the teen delinquent squad ( think bling ring but without all the publicity ), fling, friend of a fling, and flings twice removed, friends of his eldest brother ( the guy is wrapped up in snu alum activities and spends a substantial amount of time with the business school, so totally plausible that he's done some mentoring and your muse has no idea how those two are even remotely related ), someone who's interested in his father's business dealings ( barking up the wrong tree with him but tian will bite and be the best source of misinformation he can be ), extracurricular activity buddies with strong livers, business associates ( can he copy your homework or something because someone is asking him for accrual data and he might just cry ), and maybe a few fellow daredevils that love a good thrill ( cliff diving anyone? no? too soon? )

Cause back in the whole cold war shit Indonesia has a supposedly pretty good guy as the founding President and what with the whole anti-communist vs communist push, and HONESTLY at this point I don't even know if they were thinking of discussing allying with the CCP because of all the fucking American propaganda

But seeing as Indonesia was communist in ideology, America literally fucking assisted in staging a coup that pushed both anti-communist rhetoric AND SPECIFICALLY anti-chinese rhetoric that resulted in the fucking bloody massacre of Chinese citizens in Indonesia. Literally people who were BORN and RAISED in Indonesia that had Chinese blood and were just as indoneisan as everyone else born and raised there were literally hunted and killed for being fucking Chinese because America both supported and helped push the rhetoric that Chinese = Communist = Bad = Murder them
