im ab to be annoying ab dimension20 fhjy but im genuinely loving the character arcs for the bad kids this season?

kristen going from self-annihilatingly stupid to trying to build a genuine bridge with the man who not only wielded the religion that traumatised her (bobby dawn), but also was trying to ruin her life, just bc she thought a grieving father ought to be comforted in some way? her genuine distress at being unable to revivify buddy even though the two had only had negative interactions, or her biting her tongue in front of her parents so she could better look after her little siblings? grappling with the fact that she still, on some level, expected practising religion to be easy and convenient for her as a holdover from an entire childhood spent being a Chosen One, and finally putting her nose to the grindstone and committing to working her ass off for a deity that couldn't even benefit her for a hot minute? making an effort to be cordial with tracker's new gf and letting go of that codependency? the kristen applebees from ep20 would NOT do all the same stupid shit as ep1 and i love that.

fabian being humbled by the narrative again and again has been an absolute treat for his character. the whole ivy/mazey situation was great: freshman/sophomore year fabian would've gone for ivy no sweat, i mean her character seemed pretty similar to pre-redemption aelwyn and he had a huge crush on her then. but this time, when he realised he'd hurt a genuinely great person, and intentionally swallowed his pride to make it up to mazey, even though it required him being 'uncool' with the whole twister thing. his general arc of learning that earnestness and humility doesn't make him less of a man felt like a natural extension of fabian defining his own version of masculinity- sure, a 'maximum legend', but also someone deeply involved in the arts, and someone who is less afraid of saying sorry and being vulnerable in front of someone he likes

fig. fig fig fig. what a woman. its been absolutely fascinating watching build her sense of identity over these three seasons. at her core, fig is a character that loves so deeply. in freshman, she was terrified of the depth of her own devotion, so she tried to distance herself emotionally from everyone. in sophomore, she built herself around that love for other people. in junior year, fig's arc has been learning she can do both: that she's defined by her love for others, but not solely by it. ik emily wanted to retire the character before this season but i think fig's paladin arc was the best capstone to her journey possible.

gorgug's arc has been about establishing clear boundaries for himself and i love it. im aware there's been some Discourse ab the mango soda scene but to me that was pretty easily chalked up to teenage insecurity. a big part of gorgug's arc was trying to believe in himself when everyone around him told him he was too dumb to follow his passion- imagine struggling in an area that you have no natural aptitude for, and someone comes along and also trounces you in the one area you thought you were the best in. i'd be petty and reactive too (gorgug follows up calling her a freak with the fact that she beat the shit out of him, so its clearly him just still smarting from a bruised ego and not actual malice). in general, i've really like gorgug learning to put his foot down and say enough is enough without completely losing his gentleness.

adaine hasnt had an obvious arc, but considering she addressed most of her baggage in the first two seasons, i'm not surprised. i would've liked to see the other bad kids address her 'teenage adult' behaviour, but her self-awareness about it and relying on fabian to pull in clutch for the oracool stuff still felt like she'd learned to rely on her friends at least + her reaching out to aelwyn and the two of them healing from their parents together has been rewarding it its own right.

riz is perfect and has learned nothing. his neuroticism is part of his natural swag

3 ships: HELLCHEER HELLCHEER HELLCHEER.....for real hellcheer is kind of the only ship im actively reading fics for right now lmao. BUT sidestep/ortega and sidestep/herald will always hold a special place in my heart. and also all three of them. (i feel like the second after i post this im going to be like OH WAIT THIS SHIP EXISTS HOW COULD I FORGET but. no thoughts brain empty)

First ship: oh jeez, probably some embarrassingly basic main character hetship from something on disney or nickelodeon or cartoon network. i think the first ship i read fic for was probably a homestuck ship? i multishipped hard though so i don’t remember which one lol. almost definitely one with dave or davesprite in it though since they were my favs 

Currently consuming: hellcheer directly into my bloodstream (why does this question feel so oldschool myspace i love it) also ice water

Last movie: glass onion!!! i saw it in theaters during its limited release and watched it again when it came out on netflix. made me a little teary-eyed since knives out was the last film i saw in theaters before the pandemic (i saw it 6 or 7 times i think lol. it’s a good film regardless but there really is something sooo so so special about seeing it in theaters). i will say i liked it *slightly* less than knives out but to be fair i dont think anything could ever possibly surpass ‘because you are a good nurse’

Hello nerds of the internet. A new trailer for the next Dimension 20 series just dropped so that means it’s that time again! Time to get all of their classes wrong!

First up we have Cheese. Is almost definately a wizard based on the spell book and Crystal ball he seems to be using as a Yo-yo. If he’s a divination wizard that’d would make him the 4th major one to appear and the 2nd from Leviathan but if he really was into Divination, he probably would’ve remembered to wear pants! Evocation is my bet for this scallywag.

Literal Angel. Probably bard college of glamour based on appearance and insistence on diplomacy. Probably sings at Gardy’s pub and talk about what is like to be such perfect Aasimars. Too beautiful for this world

Bob is the girl you take home to meet your folks, Myrtle the Merrow is the one who drags you to her undersea bed and you know you want it. At least until her warlock patron shows up cause she is definately a warlock based on those Davey Jones/ Ursula lines Brennan was giving her. I wonder if her patron can also make her a pair of legs or else getting around leviathan will be hard. Still easier than without a voice but I digress.

Now we’re getting to the players I know better and conversely the characters I understand less. I’m not even sure what type of animal this guy is, Shifter? That Golden trident seems interesting, especially since it seems to be mostly for display while he uses that mean looking blade that’s just small enough to be a short sword. He definately seems like the closest to a real pirate out of the bunch so perhaps Rogue, though more assassin than swashbuckler. Possibly even Oath of Conquest Paladin. I know from LA by night that B Dave enjoys having people bow down to his characters.

Now I can finally get my Aarakroka player to watch this show. I have no idea what the hell her class is though. Seems lightly armored but that means nothing in this show, Ricky Matsui’s armor was that he’s hot. The hook on the right side feels less like a weapon and more like a holy symbol though. Is she a cleric who worships a fallen pirate? DOES SHE WORSHIP BILL SEACASTER?!?!

Ok now I know they’re home brewing cause if there was a Rat race I’d know about it. I love whenever Matt gets a chance to play and he’s just the sweetest boy. The broken mast makes me think he works for that one Warforged lady as a Boatswain and also reminds me of Brian David Gilbert’s character who also has a plank of wood as a fighter weapon. Dignified fighter Battlemaster seems to suit this old rat well. Possibly samurai to play up his devotion to the city. It seems like Matt is finally gonna get to do his ship to ship combat system after all.

i'm almost finished with sophomore year of fantasy high and wondering which dimension20 show i should watch next- i can't decide if i should go for another intrepid heroes campaign or try out another cast? i really love the intrepid heroes and i think i would miss them. esp lou or zac. which are your favorite campaigns? should i give naddpod a try? (sorry i just think of you as a kind of ambassador bc i got into it bc of you. thanks btw)

hell yeah! im always a BIG advocate for escape from the bloodkeep - i think the short and tight 6 episode seasons are great to cleanse the palette in between bigger seasons, esp when they have new cast members to get familiar with! (ify alone makes bloodkeep a top tier season) if you aren't too into the LoTR fantasy, i still think the unsleeping city is the best season alongside a crown of candy!

also i think Everyone should listen to naddpod lmao - campaign 1 and 2 are pretty different, but both share the same sense of humor, and murph, emily, caldwell and jake are clearly such good friends that it makes all their interactions wonderful - campaign 1 is a lot longer if you want a long-form show to get into, but campaign 2 is a pretty tight 41 episodes if you want something shorter!

tl;dr: the unsleeping city and/or escape from the bloodkeep, and definitely try out naddpod

last series: it dawns on me ive been listening to podcasts for so long now that i cant even remember the last time i watched a series jdghksjjgf (other than dimension20 but not 100% that counts?). OH, WAIT, in the summer i watched that polish show on netflix, Sexify !!! it was genuinely very good and i recommend it !!!

last movie: went to see Dune in the cinema !

currently working on: !!!! i have a bunch of wips for the characters of Dimension20's The Seven. i hope i manage to get my shit together enough to post the finished stuff either before the finale (which is next wednesday D: ) or right after but ive been procrastinating so much D: D: i finished the lineart for all pieces A WEEK AGO and have been putting off colouring (because its hard and im bad at it jdgkysj) and it took me A MONTH to even start with the lineart even though i already had a complete idea for each piece. *also*, i have yet to finish a Gideon the Ninth piece i started waaay back in like, idek, june???? as well as a piece for Venture Maidens' latest campaign (which i started working on in the middle of august when ep2 aired)

ollie i must say i really like when you narrate your adventures. like when we get successive additions to headcanons (though i love when the longer bits of writing end up under "read more", just for ease of scrolling- so kind of you to do that!) and i really like when we get to see you add to embroidery or create a map or any other creative endeavor you undertake. i like watching the process come together in step-by-step photographs or descriptions. it makes me feel like i'm there with you!

i fully didn't notice this message sorry! im so glad! i get nervous sometimes that it is annoying but then i just remind myself that y'all can unfollow if it is annoying & i can post whatever i like! but its still a relief to know that you're enjoying it. in fun news, my gma is stoked that im taking up embroidery & we are going to the needleworkers guild christmas fair together!

i have so many of these projects right now... i have a map i want to make for my original story, i have MULTIPLE embroidery projects for xmas presents & fan art purposes (whats up girls of dimension20s The Seven, my beloveds), obviously im writing my original story but i have a couple fanfics on the back-back-back burner that i need to get around to... it doesn't sound like many projects when i write them out but they're all Fiddly in the way that takes up a lot of time. oh i guess miniature painting & those crafts but that's on the backburner now bc we aren't playing in person atm :(

im gonna be dming for the first time in soon and I was wondering if you have any advice for a brand new dm?

My advice for this always boils down to: Make sure you do your research! You don't have to know everything about dnd or whatever system you're going to be running but try to have a basic understanding of rules to help you guide your players, especially if they're also new. There are so many resources out there, I started off with just the DMG and googling everything but there are tons more that are easily accessible.

You don't have to know the whole plan for your campaign yet! Start small, give your players a simple quest to get then on the right track and start to feel out what types of play styles and activities they most enjoy! (And talk to them preferably before session 0 to get an idea of what they're most excited about and what they might not be interested in.)

Don't be afraid to say 'no'. It can suck when your players want to do something that they think will be cool and you have to say no, but if it's causing you a lot of stress or negatively impacting the energy around the table it's your responsibility to be able to say no/work it out with your players. You're a player too and your experience matters, you shouldn't be a dictator or nasty but you do have a say in what you allow at the table and it's okay to have hard limits on that.

Don't feel pressured be the next Critical Role/TAZ/Dimension20/etc. Figuring out how to DM in a way that you enjoy and works for your group is personal and takes time to develop! Congrats on taking the first step and just work from there.

And of course, most importantly, have fun!
