okay. listen. I try not to be pedantic about this sort of thing but it’s starting to get on my nerves. the wire mother offers milk but not comfort. the cloth mother offers comfort but not milk. if something is comforting, fun, or otherwise compelling, but lacks substance, that is the cloth mother. if something is boring or unpleasant but has substance, that is the wire mother.

Naturalists have got to be one of the groups of people most susceptible to being tricked by the fae. Travellers these days are much less likely to follow a mysterious light or the smell of roast beef into the forest. Meanwhile, find me a naturalist who would not completely lose themself in pursuit of:

An unidentifiable bird call

A butterfly that's slightly off-color

An opossum with its head stuck in a yogurt tub

A really big woodpecker

it’s kinda sad that the cassowary gets sensationalised as “scary knife murder bird”

like don’t get me wrong - they absolutely can do serious harm and/or kill, but that’s if they’re startled/during mating season/caring for chicks, which is standard for most animals that are bigger than us/sporting some kind of natural weaponry

cassowary are super cool birds outside of that
