this album has been such a rewarding piece to create and im so glad that soon enough you will all be able to listen and enjoy it with me! one thing i love in particular about this album is the song ‘dress’

dress was originally a piece i started to write when making reputation however i felt it was right to keep it to myself, to keep it between my partner and i for a little while longer. however recently our lives have been changing for the better, and while that lid of privacy will still be on, i want to share more with you guys

you have all been on this journey with me and you have treated my partner and i with the upmost respect and for that i thank you. for me dress is a letter, its statement, its a declaration of my love for him and im very grateful to be able to give this to you all

this song is one im very proud of, i really enjoyed writing this the first time, and getting to revist and polish it up felt very special to do.

honestly if anything im relieved to see people talking about not liking it. i get some people see it as negativity but this is literally just healthy music fan behavior lmao. as much as id like to love everything jimin releases i am unfortunately on the dislike boat this time again (ctt was my first). ironically going off from the description i was anticipating not liking it, and that was still true but it was extremely unexpected to me and kinda have me trust issues with these press release descriptions of theirs lol. i thought it was gonna be smth like industry baby + smf rap verses on steroids. the absolute shift from that took me off guard completely but not for the better.

one of the things i hate the most about kpop “standom” is fans eating up absolutely everything their idols release even if you can tell they’re forcing it. i know for a fact wayyy to many armys do this too. so im actually glad to see many pjms not falling into this category. i think we need to encourage a healthy expression of what we vibe with and dont vibe with. sure maybe id feel different if i liked it and would only want to see people saying the same things but someone else’s opinion should not affect how much you enjoy something.

maybe this is pjm’s ptd era and thats okay lol. the only narrative ive seen that annoys me is the the whole “you hate happiness” copout. i get people feel defensive about others not enjoying what they do and i know that pjms are very protective of jimin and don’t want him to be set up for more hate, but its just such a silly stance to take. as a lover and critical consumer of music somebody telling me i hate “happy music” is laughable.

i’m looking forward to the highlight reel and hope to see/hear some variety both sonically and thematically on the album. as for right now, i will say i am glad that jimin was in a better place mentally after the events that inspired face.

OKAY REALISING I AM RELISTENING TO THIS ALBUM FOR THE HUNDREDTH TIME JUST TODAY ACCIDENTALLY SO IIM GONNA QUICKLY WRITE DOWN MY FIRST IMPRESSIONS BC IM ALREADY BEGINNING TO ACTUALY THINK ABOUT THINGS AND LOOK AT LYRICS AND READ OTHER PEOPLE'S OPINIONS, so here is an only slightly tainted not quite first impression of unreal unearth from me (obviously the singls ive heard before but)

de selby (part 1) i turned on the album sitting in the absolute dark, ten minutes past twelve at night, this started playing, cue instant tears. i think i was just hit with 'this is the most beautiful thing ive ever heard' and i wasn't expecting that from de selby 1 for some reason. and when the irish kicked in that just. no words, just crying and im what two minutes in. i wasn't even thinking about what he'd been saying about connemara in the dark and mirrors of people you used to know (i'd seen him talk about it, but purposefully skipped the actual song when it came up online) it was just. de selby 1. and the part as gaeilge

de selby (part 2) sexy groovy silly fun, it's really growing on me, thinking about 'i'd still know you, not being shown you

i only need the workin' of my hands' also i cant wait to read third policeman and look at this completely differently

first time the beginning was jarring, and then at the lyric about his name i kind of :( i also liked the lethe/liffey parallel, it's so very hozier of him to do that. god the push and pull of there must have been something off from the beginning? if every time they called him baby he died? something like that was my first interpretation, now im wondering if it's because it's not his name and they're the one that made his name sound wonderful for once. intellectualising that part of the lyrics kind of ruins it for me ngl, i think it's more about how it feels, i think it feels like contrast like not knowing if it hurts or is wonderful. little detail of when he says come here to me and it sounds so casual and irish like come here to me tell me, i really love it. and the final lyric hurt. really impeccable timing for a breakup album like

You can use your favorite color. And start making it obvious it is your favorite color lol. Not in an annoying way but in an evident way. Like incorporating that color in your day to day life, picking things with that color, personalize it.

For me it's pink, to the point people know I'm so pink. (Not me wearing a pink tee and pink sweatpants and pink scrunchie as I type this HELP)

Start embracing it as your favorite color. And see yourself as that color. Over time you'll be associated with it.

Another awesome example for the album ones, would be taylor.

I think its also characterized by the era you are going through. Like red era was a very angsty (but still in a way) a love era, it was very autumny.

Reputation was super dark, comeback-esque and so black fit that era.

Lover ofc is all about love, so pink fit with that era.

1989 was very new york, so pop, very upbeat. Blue and white fit the tone of that era.

In a similar way depending on you, your favorite color and your era at the moment, you can be associated with a color too :)

And ofc as we know from manifestation, it doesn't matter what others think, if you associate yourself with it first they will associate you with it too ♡

matthew 10000% is the #1 biggest. his favorite eras 1989, reputation, tortured poet department. but he likes all. kinda like me, i have eras i like more and some i like less but i like all eras <3

thomas loves fearless and lover. alastair is not a swiftie. he only likes some songs from folklore and evermore. but he loves thomas so so much and lets him play it in the plane and in the train, not in a boat not in a ferry and definitely, definitely not through a mirror. that was not relevant. anyway, he lets thomas play it all over the place. <3333 thomas and alastair are genuinely the perfect ship. they fit together in all of the right ways and make the jagged edges whole. i just think they are so sweet together and bring the best in each other, and i think they challenge each other and also support each other.

i cant explain it but this album feels like an amalgamation of folklore and midnights, with the same 'tragic victorian' vibes as evermore... idk im just saying words but do u get it??? like i cant explain it but the fortnight mv has ivy energy to me... i think because ivy ive always associated with this movie, 'the world to come' (would highly recommend), which is mid-late victorian era and then the mv is obliously very heavilly inspired by the 1870s/80s, both in terms of aesthetics and the general theme of female hysteria and its 'treatments'...

it also has massive chloe beale vibes to me... she strikes me as such an annoying swiftie (i say this lovingly) and just the overall sound is something i think she would absolutely EAT UP... my babys such a hopeless romantic, what can i say...

oh okay i'll believe this. that was the other thing while i was listening to it im like girl theres no cohesive sound you are ping ponging all over the place. and i know midnights had a very strong visual theme in all the music videos etc but it does noooooot come across on the album except maybe. one or two songs. however i do think she's willing to whiff some vault tracks because she's said there are like. a crazy insane number of them. and she's sticking pretty closely to just 5 vaults a rerecord barring red. so i dont think shes . in danger of running out of vaults. especially since a lot of the imitated sounds are much more recent (lover folkevermore) which she's not going to rerecord anytime soon. makes a weak album on purpose so i can tour all my albums without people being mad about me ignoring the new one. tops charts anyway

okayy heres my tour ranking (note that there isnt an official tour video for red OR eras so this probs affects my ranking,,, more for red than eras bc i see eras content every single day online anyway)

speak now world tour - okay i may be biased because this is my favourite album,, but even if it wasnt this would be her best tour (in my opinion),, i feel like in her old concerts she was so theatrical, and parts of it kinda looked like a full broadway production,, also the iconic elements like the lyrics on the arm, also shout out to the live album recording of this bc i listen to it soooo much and its amazing and perfect and show stopping etc etc im literally gonna list a bunch of iconic moments right here: THE HAUNTED BELL, the fireworks during dear john, the koi fish guitar with the light up tree, the gold fringe dress (DROP EVERYTHING NOW) the ballgown, just the wholle thing is the best thing i have ever seen

eras tour - this tour actually is killing me with all of the nostalgia watching her sing through and acknowledge all of her old albums and past selves (except debut, rip😔). and i especially love all of the details from past concerts she has (like the fearless spins, the sparkly & koi guitars, the over head hand heart) and also the new visuals for existing tours (like the old taylors in glass cages for rep) AND the visuals for the albums that hadnt been toured before (lover, folklore, evermore, midnights) i just think that she really did her albums justice (again, apart from debut☠️) and its insane that the show is so long 3+ hours

reputation stadium tour - karyn the snake is the coolest thing ive ever seen. also the ready for it intro with the hooded bodysuit outfit is ICONIC,,, i love the choreo on this tour, like the part of i did something bad where taylor gets lifted up like a cheerleader (AHHHHHH) and i love the quiet long live / new years day moment on the piano,, its so nice

the red tour - like i said before, there isnt a tour movie for this one so i dont know as much about it, but i loveeee how fun it is, i love the ringleader outift and circus theme for the closing song, we are never ever getting back toghether (my favourite part of the show) and i love the unnecessary hairflips during all too well😭

the 1989 world tour - this tour feels like her biggest one (even though it isnt), its like the most pop artist thing ever, its less theatre-production like than any of her other tours and it feels less personal? that being said its obviously very iconic, im forever obsessed with the wildest dreams/enchanted mashup, and that one out of the woods bodysuit that she only wore once for some reason, + the FOREVER iconic rock version of wanegbt BUT THE WAY THE TOUR MOVIE IS EDITED IS SOOOO ANNOYING LIKE IT SWITCHES TO A DIFFERENT PERSPECTIVE EVERY 2 SECONDS😭 anyway i really do appreciate this tour bc taylor really did give it everything she had, and looking at the miss americana documentary, u can tell it was really hard to have put on that show with what she was going through

fearless tour - this is ranked last but i actually really like this one, its cute. her vocals werent as good as they are currently but idc because this show was so funny,, it had the iconicccc throwing of the red chairs in forever & always and shoudlve said no in the rain!!!!!!!!

him!! my stuck-in-the-sixties boy!! the specific order isn't necessarily accurate, but these are the sort of groups/artists i imagine him liking--as well as special mentions to the velvet underground/bob dylan/donovan/joni mitchell/kate bush/pink floyd probably some of the beatles' solo careers in the seventies--e.g. wings/paul mccartney's ram/george harrison's all things must pass. i tend to imagine his tastes being more suited to the sixties than the seventies in general, though (think he'd prefer it to the glam + punk rock of the seventies although he may have liked some early bowie xx). i think he'd enjoy new wave in the late 70s/early 80s possibly more than he'd enjoy punk, but also he's spending that time being utterly depressed so i don't know how on-it he is in regards to following the latest cultural trends and movements.

okay i'm not sure i have a ranking for this one--it's harder because i can't imagine him actively hating much. and i feel like if he didn't like a certain type of music he just wouldn't engage with it. but thinking about bands in the 70s i can't imagine him having an awful lot of time for your AC/DCs, ur aerosmiths, slade, kiss, led zeppelin, black sabbath...metal as a genre.

right i know this is a bit of a cop-out of a list. and the order once again doesn't really mean anything more than what came to mind first because honestly again it would all depend on the specific era/year you're talking about but. i've said before i imagine him moving from glam rock + proto-punk into punk + especially british punk as the seventies progresses...i do think artists like bowie and roxy music and t. rex would've had pretty big effects on him at a young age, and i think though he wouldn't have much time for most of the sixties the rolling stones might still be of interest to him. the thing is by the time he's old enough to get into glam rock its being going on for a bit, which is why the fact that he's around for the very start of punk would make it so exciting for him, because its something that belongs to his age group and its something he can actually get involved in. if he'd managed to stay out of prison for just a few more years i probably would've also included xtc (though he would've been around to enjoy drums and wires and black sea which are both good albums xx) but i think glam rock and punk are the main two genres for him.

out of all four lists this was. probably easiest honestly although its less a ranking and more just a list as they came to mind but. i think he would enjoy hating the beatles--they're done, they're yesterday's news, they're old-fashioned and i really can't imagine any of their discography being of much interest to him personally. although he'd make allowances for how much r likes them. unlike r, i think s would sort of revel in being a bit of a hater (like me) so a lot of the rest of this list is just big seventies artists that while he would have been exposed to, he wouldn't have liked. i've talked b4 about the queen thing but in the interest of being thorough here i'll once again make my argument that he would not have liked queen xx if you think s liked queen its probably because he actually liked sparks instead. sparks sound like what i think a lot of people seem to think queen sound like. queen do not fit the rock n roll/punk rock image that he gets given a lot and while i absolutely love good old fashioned lover boy as much as the next person i do not think he did xx he was not a good old fashioned lover boy i promise you xx he was a cunt xx

First, here's a breakdown of my thoughts, song by song:

Lavender Haze—This could be on reputation easily. Or Lover. reminds me a little of “I think he knows” just in the chorus. Clearly about Joe.

Maroon—“Your roommate's cheap ass screw top rose—that's how” is gonna be a MEME I can feel it. Also “The mark you saw on my collarbone, the rust that grew between telephones/The lips I used to call home, so scarlet, it was maroon” LYRICS QUEEN. “Carnations you had thought were roses, that's us” ADKGJAGLK

Anti-Hero—oh! YES!!! I FOUND A DRARRY SONG!!!! MUAHAHAHAHA. I ADORE THIS. But. What is that "sexy baby" line???? Taylor??? Also “Hi it’s me, hi, Im the problem it’s me” is going to be another meme LOL.

Snow On The Beach—“Life is emotionally abusive” mood lol. “Stars by the pocketful” WAS MADEEEE FOR A FIC TITLE. Overall, beautiful! Lyrically and sonically. (I will say I spent much of this song still thinking about the "sexy baby" line LOL).

Sweet Nothing—AWWWWW I WAS NOT EXPECTING THIS TO BE LIKE THIS BUT OMG!!! I’m like 95% sure this is about her Mom.

Mastermind—Lovely song. Sounds like another song about getting to be with Joe, which Im not mad about. It’s a bop. I like it.

That said, here are my thoughts on the album itself.

I'll be honest, guys. While I liked most of the individual songs, I was a little bit disappointed because I'd expected something so different. I thought it was going to be 13 individual sleepless nights, but it doesn't feel that way. Some of them don't feel all that distinct, thematically or sonically. The album art and promo stuff were so melancholy-seeming? And the songs were pretty much all boppy, reputation/1989/lover vibes—which is great! But just not what I expected.

That said, I would listen to all of the songs again. I will continue to celebrate them and the album and the era! But there were times I couldn't hear her singing over the instrumentals.

please tell me if im valid--i see a lot of people like "complaining about your surprise song is fucked up"--but i had wtny as my surprise song at rep tour (which was a bit of a bummer cuz i'd seen it on 1989 tour already and its not even close to a fav) and then had it AGAIN for eras. i would have preferred any other song, even one i liked less. and when shes made a point of playing songs shes never played before/hasnt played in a long time, and not replaying songs...and considering the ABSOLUTE BANGERS metlife n1&2 got--even clean was a bummer because i love that song but id seen it before as well and its still not in like my top 50--and it was the ONLY night she played two songs from the same album--id been to red 1989 & rep but im a debut&speak now stan and would have been OVER THE MOON for any song off those or fearless or folkmore or midnights or lover or red vault--wtny was like a slap in the face and then clean after it was like adding insult to injury. are my feelings valid or am i a whiny baby? i know you were at n3 too but you had FEARLESS on rep (the scream i scrumpt when i saw that n2&3 on rep had gotten two of my top ten all time taylor songs when i got wtny...) and holy ground (also a top 10!) and false god!!! already so you didnt have to feel cheated idk im still so sad about this shes played so many of my top songs of all time and i feel like i got screwed
