so i was inspired by @rvbrarepairweekdos to see what the least common ships on ao3 are but i couldnt really find a good way to sort that so. i made a spreadsheet.

nothings really all that surprising, but theres some interesting stuff here! such as:

there are 194 ships with only 1 tag. the most surprising to me was lopez/simmons. youd think there'd more than just one, with the actually having a pretty interesting canon dynamic and all. the one that hurt the most is temple/tucker........ i mean i know im also not writing it but T-T

the highest ship that made me go "huh?" was delta/maine at 66th. i guess guns for hire was very popular, wasnt it.

wash is absolutely the fandom bicycyle; he has the most tags, the most ships, and the most unique pairings.

grimmons is 1st in terms of number of tags, which puts simmons and grif and 3rd and 4th, respectfully, but in terms of ships theyre all the way down at tying for 14th. grimmons makes up 94% of grif and simmons' tags. the next highest ship for grif and simmons after grimmons is simmons/wash at 49th and grif/tucker at 54th. people really dont ship those two with anyone else, huh!

tuckington makes up ~47% of wash's tags and ~73% of tucker's tags. he also only has ~64% of the amount of ships wash does. free my boy tucker he deserves to slut it up.....

andersmith has the largest discrepancy re: number of tags to number of ships, going from 49th to 32nd (+17). other notable differences are simmons going from 3rd to 14th (-11), allison going from 27th to 39th (-12), south going from 16th to 7th (+9), and caboose going from 14th to 6th (+8).

there are 210 M/M ships, 116 M/F, and 43 F/F. M/M has 8253 tags, M/F has 2481, and F/F has 659. the most popular f/f ship is south/ct, coming in at 13th, with kimball/carolina close behind at 14th. the next f/f doesnt come until 45th with carolina/grey. not a very sapphic heavy fandom are we...

this was gathered using this page on ao3 on 8/9/2024. the data i have is based on how many TAGS a ship has, not how many FICS it has. some people tag their fics with the same ship in multiple ways. i dont really have anyway to sort that out with the method i used. is there a better way to get data about ships? maybe! but this was made MOSTLY just because i had so much fun playing with the data and spreadsheets and organizing. im probably gonna keep playing around with the sheet bc i have fun with data but im not sure if im going to add more ships in. maybe like a year from now. i dont really have a good way to clean the data except semi manually so.

Regarding your latest post about going into the tags, I've been having a similar experience to be honest, especially lately. Definitive factors are the lack of news and s01 and s02 leaving us for 4+ years with this "tale". So much so that I've been actually starting to take it as face value too. Because really what does one have to say otherwise? Hints? Hints are not canon yet so they can't count as proof -also we don't know how they are going to be used.

Promised revisits? Yeah we saw those in season 2 and they definitely did not help change the tale. Contradicting promises and half truths from cast? It's not enough to rely on. The responses are often more about how the actors interpret their characters motivations not what the writers actually write and how they see the characters.

I really don't wish to be negative but I think it's equally possible that season 3 will infact not turn everything onto its head and this is largely based on the creative decisions taken so far. So many relationship dynamics were changed to their core eg. Armand-Louis.Core events altered completely, murder scene, trial scene etc.

And may I just add here a comment about rolin and not everyone has to agree this is just my impression, but listen to the way he talks.

Nickistat is a "super emo relationship", lestat is always described with epithets like "messy" "volatile", the world "sexy" was used a lot. Emphasis is given on how this is the Monster Vampire Show where everyone is equal in monstrosity because that's how monsters monster.

I really don't mean to dump all over anyone's dreams here but when people speak they show you who they are and what their intentions are. How hannah reacted to the 1x5? That's who she is and what she believes and what she writes stems from this.

When they spoke of the 1x5 revisit they were speaking like they somehow altered the whole series and its trajectory when infact no? The scene interpretation and its fall out stays exactly the same. Has stayed the same for the audience!

In no interview did they mention about setting up how lestat functions as the hero in the VC universe, not because to use a quote "this guy is a mess" but of how horrible things keep happening to him (some based on his bad decisions but others not) and he keeps going some times with existential angst others with a joie de vivre.

They did not mention or give emphasis on how the core of iwtv was parental grief, and how it WAS supposed to be about claudia.

We cannot expect season 3 to magically alter all of That. The edited tale very likely will never change but instead "added upon" let's say with some revisits and clarifications.

As of right now 90% of the Fandom is confused and to that i say it's not because all the pieces are missing its because the pieces don't match.

The writers intentions vs the actual book arcs and characters don't match right now there is a dissonance.

I apologize for the offensively long post, of course anyone can feel free to disagree I love hearing how other iwtv fans are experiencing the series and fandom and their thoughts on the future season(s).

I mean... I do think the revisits helped to change the tale? And massively so, because the "sales man" comment alone made it clear that there had been whole memories implanted.

Should have made it clear, I need to say though I guess, because that for example is what I meant.

People... don't take the mental step back to evaluate the tale they were told. They "waited" for the big revisits to change everything they had been shown.

And what the show did instead - was change key scenes... and it expected everyone to be able to follow.

To re-evaluate why Lestat in 1x05 did not have blood on his face outside or in the sky... but was shown in the revisit to have had blood all over - for example. Because it's an implanted memory!!! The hair styles also indicate that, I have talked about that at length before.

What really happened out there is up to interpretation right now, and I do think it has to do with the arc they try to do that Sam hinted at.

But this way of revealing things... and expecting people to have the mental capacity to reevaluate the whole show after the fact... THAT is what did not work.

At least for some.

Because I have seen enough fan reactions to know that it did NOT in fact stay the same for the whole audience.

I do not expect s3 to give us many more explicit revisits. I do expect a revisit to "murder night" because the words in Claudia's diary do not match and the revisit was hinted at before.

But Lestat did not go and contradict everything Louis said in his book - some, yes, but not everything?? - so why would s3 do that.

No the show is not the books, and yet it is.

It is an adaptation.

I do not like all of the choices... but what I do get is what they intended with the revisits and how these few key scenes do, in fact, actually do change the whole tale.

Go on, nonny, do a rewatch.

Look at Lestat's hair in Louis' memory, and notice the hair in what turned out to be a wrong memory... notice what Louis could not have known, but told of, and then... re-evaluate.

Because that is what this show wanted us to do with the revisits :)

Because it's all in there already... and THAT - as much as it frustrates me, given parts of the fandom not understanding it 😅 - is quite ingenious.

hello my dear anon. i would be very happy to provide advice on how to make friends here on tumblr dot com! i will be focusing on how to make fandom friends, because that is all i have ever really done on this webbed site. i am not going to get into the nitty-gritty of social skills and manners, because i want to focus on the basics of fostering connections with other people in a fandom on tumblr, but i'll quickly say: don't be over-familiar in an invasive or jokey-mean way to people you don't know well, respect boundaries and social cues (don't repeatedly message someone you don't know well if they're not replying to you), and be generally niceys!! i know you probably know all that. but it's key, and i think not everyone is totally fully aware of social skills when it comes to interacting online in particular, so i felt it was worth saying (⁠◍⁠•⁠ᴗ⁠•⁠◍⁠)⁠❤

now we can move into the real advice :3c

first things first: actively participate in your fandom! you can do this by creating fanworks (writing fic, making art, etc)— and if you want to, you should give it a try! participating in the fandom doesn't need to involve making fanworks, though. plenty of people mainly participate in fandom by supporting creators and taking part in conversation about the characters or ships that they're interested in. on tumblr, you can do this by leaving your thoughts on fanworks that you like! you can do this by replying, or— even better— reblogging with comments in the tags!

other good forums to interact with the fandom include meta posts (you can add thoughts in the body of your reblog if you have something you want to say, or in the tags if you're shy / just want to go "hell yeah!!!" generally) and questions that people ask ("does anyone know if [character] ever [does/says something specific]?") — these are nice opportunities to find and connect with other fans who are talking about or want to talk about the things that interest you ❤️

of course, you can also post things in the tags! generally, best etiquette is to keep posts in the fandom, character, and ship tags kind / civil. you will see people saying things like "ugh [character or ship] is so annoying" or "i hate that people only write [character] as a [top/bottom/seme/uke]." however, this is not something i recommend doing or engaging with. everyone can do whatever they want forever, but i find this type of behavior unnecessary and unpleasant. people who center their tumblr experience around complaining about what other people like and do are frankly participating in fandom in a way that confuses me. i fail to understand why someone would choose to consistently focus on things that upset or annoy them; fandom is meant to be enjoyable.

try to talk about the characters and ships you like, and the dynamics you like for them. rather than going "ugh i hate it when people write [character] in [some specific way]," try talking about the dynamic or characterization you'd like to see more of. bonus points if you can resist saying "why doesn't anyone write [xyz thing you want]," because there's a good chance someone has written that, and if they see your post, they're not gonna know if you haven't seen their fic, or if you have seen it and just didn't like it. a better way to put that would be "does anyone have recs for fics where [xyz thing you want happens]?" do not say "i tried looking but couldn't find anything good." people aren't gonna want to rec you things if you're leading with a weird attitude. of course it can be difficult to find fic that you truly love which also aligns with your preferences, but especially in a tiny ship or fandom, it's best to have some tact. also, if you're really that pressed for stories you wanna read, it's a great reason to get into writing 🥰

all this said, everyone needs to bitch once in a while; that's normal. healthy even. this bitching is best left in DMs, though, or at the very least, on your blog, out of the tags. and don't let haterism consume you!!

OH! i almost forgot. send asks! send asks to people in the fandom that you think are interesting and nice. send asks for ask games when people reblog them, and send asks about fics or characters or fanart to other people in the fandom. if you're very shy, you can do this on anon, and then interact with the answer once it's posted by replying or reblogging.

okay. let's say that you've been engaging with fanart by reblogging and leaving your thoughts in the tags, engaging with fic by reblogging with thoughts in the tags and / or commenting on AO3, and interacting with other people in the tags for the characters and ships you like. and, best of all, sending asks! doing all of this, you'll get a sense for which people you might get along with, and who might be receptive to your friendship. if someone is replying to your tags, following you back, interacting with your posts, and so on for a while, that's a great opportunity to DM them!! (it's fine to keep things to asks and replies for a while if that feels easier, of course!)

once you have a person in mind that you would like to DM, it's up to you how you want to reach out. i'm an impulsive and somewhat outgoing person online, so in my early days in the DN fandom (and my last fandom) i would often just spontaneously DM people whose vibes i liked and introduce myself (hi, i'm neallo, i hope this isn't strange but i just wanted to pop in and introduce myself!). i would then let them know that i liked their blog, or their art, or their writing, often leaving a specific thought about the item in question ("i totally agree with your post about [character], he WOULD say that" or "i love how cute / pretty / impish you make [character] in your art" or "your writing style is so compelling, i've really been enjoying your fics"). i don't do this very much anymore, but it's not because it doesn't work. it's just that i have a finite amount of time and there are a lot of people in meronia now T__T so, generally, i only go out of my way to reach out to people i've already interacted with a good deal through posts / asks / comments on AO3 (aka people who i feel would possibly like to be friends with me).

you technically can cold DM people if you really like their blog or writing or fanart. i personally don't mind a DM from someone i haven't interacted with before, but i do always have to take a second to make sure they're not a child and not a spam bot or something. some people are put off by being messaged directly by someone they've never interacted with before, though, so i think it's generally best practice to kind of get a feel for things on the public side of tumblr before sending someone a message!!

now, a word of self-compassion and general caution. first: not everyone will reply to you. others may reply at first, but fall off (i am really bad about this myself, just because life has been getting in the way a whole lot recently). sometimes people are busy; sometimes they are just not really actively seeking friends or conversation; sometimes they maybe just don't think they'll vibe with you! it doesn't reflect poorly on you if someone doesn't respond to you or try to befriend you. it can be sad, or a little disappointing, but that's the way the cookie crumbles. don't take it personally, and try not to feel too dejected or hurt over it.

one more thing. ideally, this will not happen at all, but if it does, hopefully it will be seldom. in my experience, it has been very seldom! the thing is this: someone might be unkind to you. i personally am not that good at figuring out when someone is being mean to me unless they're insanely obvious about it! i will make excuses for someone doing or saying hurtful things several times ("i'm sure they didn't mean it like that" or "they're just kidding around") before i realize that they're being kind of an asshole. i don't actually think this is a bad trait, though-- i like to assume good intent from other people, and only rescind that assumption when i'm proven wrong. i only mention this to tell you: if someone routinely makes you feel bad about yourself, your art, your writing, or your thoughts, maybe they're not the best person to befriend.

It leads to him being a little stalkerish, but it's a little excused because of what's going on between Bella and Edward. I like Jasper and all that but I also always headcanoned that I love to mess with the Cullens so I do that. Especially with the on running joke in the fandom that people think the Cullen's are a cult or something.

I go with Bella to the book store. We both have been talking about the Cullen's weird behaviors especially Edwards (I love to bully Edward). I help her throughout her trying to figure it all out journey. I do pick a fight with one of the guys that gang up on us. Also Jasper is with Edward I get stuck in the back seat with him. It's cute because he's all protective even putting my seatbelt on for me but also a little awkward after everyone calms down.

I'm indecisive if I wanna be friends with Emmett by this point or wait.

When Bella is about to get hit by the car I try to rush over to her but Jasper holds me back. I push him off after Edward gets to her, surprises them all because he's a vampire I shouldn't be able to do that.

I get stuck on the same school bus as the Cullen's and I just wanna sink into my seat because I can feel them watching. I don't know if I wanna take this moment to interact with Emmett.

I go to leave with the girls but Jasper stays stuck to my side and then Bella decides to stay I sigh and stay. We get a separate table from Edward and Bella. Jasper admits he wasn't planning on following me but since Edward was already going to do so with Bella he tagged along. I get him to reveal that he is an empath. "So you feel calm around me? That's why you keep close?"

I have Daddy issues so I have a moment with Charlie where he shows he sees me as his daughter. It's after his friend dies he gives both Bella and me pepper spray. I may not be is bio kid but I'm still a daughter to him.

Add On:

I don't have a dramatic "I know you're a vampire scene" I just let Bella have that but she makes me join in on the dinner. I'm totally gonna go off on her for doing that. "You left me in that kitchen! Don't get me wrong the cooking was bomb...but you still left me with a bunch of vampires!"

I do go to the baseball field with the Cullens. As much as Jasper hates it I stay behind with Charlie. I was his reassurance and to make sure he didn't try go after Bella. Just for drama I'm indecisive if I should know about the plan. Like actually think Bella is gonna leave because they didn't tell me about the plan for safety reasons. "Why the actual fuck would you say that to Charlie?! You can't just leave because you argued with Edward in the car! Bella it's safe! You're safe here." Then maybe she'd say something about me not being her sister because of the plan.

The next time I see the Cullen's when Bella is in the hospital they explain everything to me. Of course I have a sweet moment with Bella after and express my concerns.

For the dance I don't really have anything other than having fun with Jasper and all them.

My main goal is to be besties with Emmett and Rosalie. They are my favorite Cullens so I scripted so many fun outings between us. You can usually find us driving listening to music.

I might script that there is a BIG mall like an hour or so out. I wanna go shopping with the Cullen's it seems fun.

I like scripting TikToks for my DR so I tend to casually drop stuff. It's all fun and silly sometimes it's about me liking Jasper. The only moment it's not fun is when Jasper leaves in the second movie. It's me throwing strays at him because IK he's watching.

Like I mentioned I love to bully Edward but it's all fun and games. I bully him he doesn't really bully me but he has his comments. He finds it entertaining especially because he never knows what I'm going to do.

I do music as a side thing. There's not plot to that and there's no face to my music it's just to give DR me something while the Cullen's are gone.

The thing about it is. I have been consistently gritting my teeth and blocking shitty Izzy takes for over a literal year. 2 years now? Not causing drama, staying in my lane, exactly what they say they want us to do. And each week, without fail, there's someone new to block with the same takes when I go through the Izzy and Con tags. Or usually more in the range of 4+ new people posting hate in our tag.

The show is cancelled. The blorbo is arguably dead. All Izzy fans have either left the fandom, or are playing with our dolls and doing our best to ignore the same toxic waste arguments. But we're ruining the fandom and pushing our distorted view of Izzy onto others? I think not.

so basically a gwynriel wrote a fic about azriel pretty much abusing Elain, with no content warnings at all, put it in the elriel tag and then complained and cried victim when elriels were upset about it? it's such disgusting behaviour. it makes me so sick and tired of this fandom. That fic was just vile. Stuff like that NEEDS to be tagged. Had it been tagged properly and put not in the elriel tag but in the anti elriel tag, it would have been one thing, because writers should have the freedom to explore stuff. But this was not that, AT ALL. What she did was simply vile, disrespectful and very likely done to intentionally upset, and potentially trigger elriels who might have trauma tied to that specific content. It's so vile I have no words. i don't write, but if i did, there's no way on earth i'd write a fic of Azriel abusing gwyn, put no tags or warnings on it and then put it in the gwynriel tag, knowing I could have been the reason for triggering someones trauma. its not just basic etiquette, it's basic decency between human beings. But only elriels are held to that standard. I was sick to my stomach by that behavior.

Im not going to say I’m an aspiring writer cause quite frankly - i cannot string two coherent sentences together with the correct grammar but as someone who likes to dabble in writing, the only thing I disagree with is publically calling the writing bad, say it privately. I know how I would feel if I posted a fic and someone told me it was terribly written…I would not be writing ever again and thats the only part I feel bad about when it comes to the critique the author is receiving. I understand how disheartening it is to have something you wrote talked about badly in terms of writing style/spelling/grammar especially if it’s something you struggled with. So Yh, I just don’t agree with that aspect of this whole thing.

Now wtf were they thinking…idk. You’ve publically hated on elriel, said they had 0 chemistry as characters, then proceeded to make fun of elriels - and now want to write an elriel fic…for the same demographic you’ve basically antagonised? Its an interesting choice. If you’re claiming to be a multishipper, you ship multiple couples within the fandom…yet that person does not ship elriel. “Oh but I like the idea of them, just not in canon!” Okay but you’d still have to like elriel together which again, the author does not like them together and has said so. Im sorry, but you cannot write a fics of couples you hate. You just can’t. It will always lack passion which is noticeable to readers.

If you need to take elriel out of canon context, add “banter” to make them more enjoyable etc, you’re be better off writing for a ship you actually like such as Gwynriel which is full of banter as their stans claim or do it as your own characters. Create your own story which you can tailor to your preferences. Im also going to say this/ When writing for a couple thats within a book series, even if your fic is in another AU - the concept of the couple should remain the same. Every elriel fanfic has the same core elriel dynamic whilst being able to simultaneously explore them in different contexts. If I’m reading an elriel hogwarts inspired fic, Im not going into the story expecting a different elriel dynamic. Im expecting them to be the same elriel I know and love but in a different context. That fic wasn’t elriel, and if you’ve made the decision to write about elriel the least is understanding the beauty of the couple. What the ship is at its core. aka do some research. I understand wanting to explore characters but that just wasn’t azriel or elain. And the thing is - I understand the concept and where the author was coming from - elriel just did not suit that concept.

To the contents of the ship - Yes anon. You are right, with such a detailed snipped there should have been a warning. What its about, what to expect etc - thats the bare minimum. And what was written in that fic - I understand 100% that it came off as triggering bcs it did not seem consensual. I cannot agree more anon; authors NEEDS TO TAG when including or writing about very heavy topics straight away. Im not going to say the author had the intention to hurt or purposely trigger anyone, but yes. The fic came across as disrespectful and just bait even if that was not the intention. i saw your post about catras chipped eye colors and how blue + yellow = green and i wanted to put my two cents out there. im typing this in anon because i am NOT smart and im really scared that this is going to be completely stupid and incoherent and id just have it up on my blog lmao

so catras eyes are usually interpreted to symbolize two parallels- when i first watched the show i interpreted it to simply represent her morality, with blue being the 'good' side and yellow being the 'bad' one, but on second thought her blue eye might be used to represent coldness, that being her general detachment from the abstract concept of good vs bad while her yellow eye represents a certain warmth: it shows how sensitive she is to personal relationships.

how much she cares, and the importance she places in other people contrasts with her apparent moral apathy

either way, catras eyes seem to show two opposites, it's a contradiction,and its the type of "error" that prime would want to stomp out- he tries to take away a core component of catra; he tries to make her more "logical" and controllable. he tries to make her preoccupied with this abstract concept of goodness (characterized especially as purity) and stop valuing personal relationships (and makes her attack justly the person she loves the most for this).

he blends her colors together,washing out a unique feature of hers, and turns her into barely even a shell of who she really is

imo this lines up nicely with the subtext of prime as basically the personification of abusive church, including his penchant of using electrocution to "fix" people, reminiscing conversion therapy

i also really like what you said about both of her eyes connecting to she ras blue and yellow color scheme, and its really interesting in this context. applying this to the symbolism of prime washing out her eye colors would probably lean a bit heavier into the whole 'conversion therapy' theme

a shitty guide to tumblr for people who have never been on this godforsaken website

yeah so ive been thinking about making one of these posts, because tumblr is pretty unlike a lot of popular social media today and because i lost the ones that used to be making rounds. this is mostly for my own use so i dont have to reexplain tumblr every time i try to introduce people to this website, and i can just send this post to them instead

this is more to help you get started with no context of how tumblr operates, its not really a strict guide for you to follow fyi. you could ignore this completely if you want, this is generally for people who are confused, lost, and need somewhere to start. this post also mostly expects you to know what the buttons do, or at least be able to figure out what they mean

1. setting up your blog

okay, so. tumblr has a hugeeeee bot problem. these bots typically have default pfps, nonsensical or overly average urls, no personalization to their blog with everything as the default, no reblogs/posts or very few of them. i, and many others, tend to block these. however, if youve just gotten tumblr and havent customized your blog yet, you might be confused for a bot. so the first thing you should do is something to show that youre a real person, like changing your banner, pfp, or blog title. people also tend to hide their following and likes, but thats up to you if you want them hidden

if youd like to add more information about yourself, such as having an introduction to your blog that doesnt fit in your bio, put it in an intro post and pin it to your blog to make it your pinned post [if you arent sure how to do that, press the three dots on the top right of the post and then press pin post]. ofc your pinned post could be some other post you really really like, such as a pinned reblog of a funny post, a post you made that you thought was a banger and encapsulates your blog, whatever. but keep in mind it will usually be what introduces people to your blog.

for me, my blog introduction has a short introduction to me, what i post, my main tags [ill get into that later], and masterposts. masterposts are posts that you use to link to other posts, typically for posts that are all connected in some way. some examples would be for an art challenge, an au, or a story that spans across posts. it just helps compile and keep track of things.

and ive seen that one repost of that tiktok post. you dont have to prep like its professional or smth [unless you want to ofc]. youre fine, tumblr is informal as hell. just be kind and respectful of others and you should be fine. also, random thing i didnt know where to put elsewhere. go into your settings. you can put stuff like a theme for your blog, add timestamps to posts (which i highly reccommend, keeps you from reblogging warnings that are out of date n such), and whatever else you can find in there.

in addition, you can make side blogs! side blogs are attached to your main blog, and are used for a variety of things. some examples include: gimmick blogs [a blog whos whole purpose is to do one specific thing], ask blogs [a blog where you rp as a character and answer asks as if you were them], au/story/comic blogs [just to keep all of it in one place, if you dont want to use tags], fandom blogs [to split up your blogs by the fandom they post about], and more!

2. how to use tags

people here on tumblr can be veryyyy particular on tags. if you misuse them badly enough, you will likely find out the hard way. so, to prevent that from happening, here a quick crash course in tumblr tags!

dont spam unrelated tags if you make a post about blorbo and tag bingus, despite him not being in the post, that is using an unrelated tag and people will probably get annoyed or mad at you. you tag what is in the post. im looking at you instagram users. you tag the character[s] featured in the post, the fandom/story theyre from, and as [fandom] fanart, [fandom] fanfiction, or whatever it is. [pssstt fyi instead of fandom in brackets you put the fandom the character is from!]

dont main tag vagueposts a vague post is when you talk about someone, without naming them. this is typically done to shit talk the person its about. if you reallyyyy need to talk shit about someone that badly, dont tag it with the main tags you both interact through. ngl i think its just petty and shitty to make vagueposts in the first place, but you do you.

dont main tag critique/hate of people, ships, or characters lets say, for example, you really hate a ship in your fandom, and it bothers you to the point you feel the need to make this dislike known. you do NOT tag it with the name of that ship. people go into that tag to see people talking about how much they like that ship. that is a quick way to get a lot of hate. if you really need to, use that tag with crit slapped onto the end of it. generally, dont walk into someones house, shit talk it, and be surprised when they punch you in the face.

dont censor tags youre not going to get murdered by staff if you say suicide in your tags. if you put tags using censored terms like sewerslide or suc1d3, that only makes it so people who have those terms blocked will get those posts on their dashes. tag that shit and dont censor it, for the sake of the people around you.

now that thats out of the way, heres the other cool thing about tumblr tags! as i mentioned in the third to last paragraph of the previous section, you might want to put your main tags in your pinned post. tumblr allows you to search blogs by tag, so if someone wants to search for all of your posts that are tagged #blorbo, they can!

as an example i have 5 main tags listed in my pinned post that i use, the tag with all my art, the tag with all my writing, my tag for random textposts i make, my tag of reblogs, and my mutuals tag so i can look back and be like yayyyyy i love my moots :3. and while i dont have one, people tend to have an ask tag, where they can put all the asks they answer

3. tumblr algorithm

hate to break it to you pookie, but tumblr doesnt really have an algorithm like other social media. i lied. im sorry. im stealing your spleen. the for you page is... there. but no one uses it most of the time. tumblr operates more like websites used to, and you have to go hunt your posts down in the wild.

here on tumblr, we have the dashboard! it shows the posts from the people you follow in reverse chronological order. this means that, as a tumblr newbie, your dash will be empty. so, go into the tags and follow people who post and reblog things you like. however, that is step one in the circle of life here. you can stop there, of course, but you must keep something in mind.

if you like a post and want to share it with your followers, reblog it. a like will not get it onto their dash. a like is more like telling the original poster you thought the post was neat or that you saw it; this would be more like vent posts, posts about their private life, stuff like that. if its a post youd like to share with your followers, you reblog it; this is usually someone spitting facts you want to show your followers you agree with, a post you thought was funny, cool art, and whatever else you might want to have on your blog.

fyi, when i reblog i typically leave a like. it lets me know that i have interacted with this post before, and helps me so if im looking through a mutuals or someones blog and theres an awesome post left unliked, i know i didnt reblog it. however, thats just how i like to do it

4. tumblr etiquette

tumblr is a very old website, and that comes with a lot of unspoken rules the community has learned over time. heres a quick list of some rules you might need to keep in mind!

dont repost/steal posts a common thing i see on instagram and twitter is people reposting art, animation, or copying posts they thought were clever to farm likes. here on tumblr, we have reblogs! if you want that art on your blog, just reblog it. for example, if you run a gimmick blog that focuses on posting about one character, dont repost someone elses art [especially without credit]. just go reblog the original post, and let them know how much their contribution to the fandom is appreciated in the tags.

dont derail/hijack a post if you see a post thats completely unrelated to blorbo and about a different character completely and go, wow this is so blorbo coded! talk about it in the tags, or go make your own post. we build posts together here, we dont tear them down.

blocking you dont like seeing someone on your dash or when youre looking through tags? dont go and yell at them or something, or make a vaguepost. block their ass. how dare you interpret blorbo in that way. explode. get out of my sight. block tags you dont like. block keywords you dont like. block people you dont like. curate your online experience.

youve dicovered youre blocked oh no! someway, somehow, youve discovered youre blocked! oh the woe. dont make a vaguepost about it. dont go and make a hate mob because of it. it was likely nothing personal. maybe they just didnt like the way you typed. who literally cares. move on.

mutuals whenever you make a mutual, you often get bonded through blood together. i may be be posting about dogs and youre posting about taylor swift now, but through whatever led us to become mutuals, we are forever intertwined through our experience. the dash needs some diversity anyways. however, if this mutual has, for example, spontaneously started reblogging and posting about heinous shit you hate? block. begone. curate your online experience

someone posts something you dont like so you dont like what someones posting? what should you do? nothing. just leave them alone. dont send an ask, dont leave hate in their replies/reblogs. just block them if you need to, and move on

replying to reblogs you want to reply to someone in your reblogs, but you dont want to make a whole reblog or separate post? @ them in the replies of that post and chat with them there, or go to their dms and talk there

5. common lingo

heres some common terms youre likely to run into on tumblr! ofc this can vary from fandom to fandom, but from my experience these tend to span across fandoms.

op - original poster. the origin. the person who made the first post youre reblogging

moot/mutual - a person who you follow and they follow you back

<- prev - used in tags, to denote tags taken from the previous reblog. this can stack, to denote prev prev prev, but just screenshot the tags and add them in a reblog at that point

<- ops tags - used similarly to prev, but specifically for ops tags

blorbo - a term to describe the character that has taken over your mind like a parasite

scrimblo (and its variations) - a term similar to blorbo, but with more of a scraggly tinge to it

tumblrina - a gender neutral term for tumblr users. its not used all that commonly anymore, but i felt it was worth mentioning

yuri - term for a ship between girls

yaoi - term for a ship between boys

headcanon/hc - an interpretation of a character that is not canon. usually is a trait that falls in line with their canon portrayal, but not always

id/alt text - an image description. it describes an image in text, so that if the image is not loading or someone is blind, they can still know what it is/what it says. heres a helpful image for how to write one

asks - when you open your askbox, something you have to do through your settings, it allows people to send you messages that when you answer it posts as a whole tumblr post on your blog. you can also customize your askbox, only by changing the text from 'ask me anything!' to whatever you want. also, it might just be a me thing, but i like to tag who sent the anon in by their url or anonymous if theyre on anon

anon/anonymous - what we use to refer to people who are sending you an ask while on anonymous. some people have them off, because many people dont have the balls to send... unsavory asks on main. this is also why when people are getting hate, anon is turned off

queue - something ive actually neglected to mention! when you add things to your queue, it will post a certain amount of posts over time at the rate you set it to, during the time range you set it to

communities - tumblr communities are a more recent thing that was added to tumblr! you can go join them if youd like. quick warning though, communities that are open tend to get the occasional porn bot posting links in it. report it to a community moderator. this also means that communities that you have to be accepted into likely arent going to reject you. its probably just there to help prevent bots from getting in

porn bots - bots that post links to porn. they spam tags, communities, and spam follow people. report the porn as spam or sexual content, block, and move on

of course, there are way more terms used on this website than this, especially fandom specific ones. i couldnt possibly include them all, but this should be enough so you can understand what people are saying most of the time

I joined the octonauts Fandom like right at the start of 2025, and im just into making art and au's for the octonauts but ill occasionally reblog stuff about animal facts or character tropes lol

this is mayhaps a bit odd because you don’t know me but to me you’re the blogger who really REALLY jumpstarted my ateez spiral. i appreciate your posts and the way you phrase things—you are so deeply funny and thoughtful and critical (not in a negative way but in a picking-things-apart way, which i enjoy, as someone who likes to engage with things similarly!). thank you for being here and sharing your thoughts!! it’s been fun to follow along and spectate the yunho descent into madness.

(i’ve yet to officially commit to a bias myself and had been sort of noncommittally assuming it would be wooyoung or mingi, leaning mingi based on your analyses of his live and just him in general. HOWEVER after watching you lose it re: yunho im starting to think noncommittal isn’t really the right word to describe….biasdom. so maybe i’m not quite there yet.)

anyway, this is all to say: i saw the yunho photos on instagram earlier and my first thought was what will storkmuffin think of these…like the faces he’s making, why is he making those faces. what is he doing…what is he trying to make us think…what’s his goal here what game is he playing…the fifth one, where his hand is a little blurry and he’s playing at looking juuust a bit caught off guard… (social media photo posts also just fascinate me in general. it’s something about the image curation, i think—in the sense that yes, they’re curating An Image as idols but also curating an online presence, which is sort of the same thing to an extent but also feels sort of different? and then on a more granular level, each individual post must be highly curated—how many photos were taken and sifted through before he (or whoever is in charge of his instagram…do they run their own? i don’t actually know) decided on the perfect 8? why did these make the cut? which ones didn’t? the hand is blurry on purpose he looks caught off guard on purpose…)

I keep meaning to make an intro post and finally got around to it

To start off JKR supporters are blocked on sight because she sucks and I don't want people who actually like her around me.

I mostly post about Percy Weasley but occasionally i do also talk about other golden era characters.

Like Colin and Dennis Creevey, Lavender Brown, and Luna Lovegood. As well as whoever else happens to grab my attention for a little while.

I don't really consider this a Marauder blog

but i know from asks I've gotten and such that some people think I am

I really don't care much about Marauder era characters unless it's taking place in Golden Era or they're being shipped with Golden Era characters or it's like time travel related

I am a very heavy multi-shipper when it comes to characters I like.

Percy gets that treatment alot from me.

At the moment my main favs are Perclin (Percy/Colin Creevey) and Flintley (Percy/Marcus Flint)

I ship him with a stupid amount of people though so you will see plenty of others here

I'm normally only focused on a few at a time though.

I am pretty canon focused when it comes to characterization (or at least I try to be I don't always succeed at it though imo)

but i am also pretty big on the "hey what if this one thing was different" style of au

with the difference in most cases being soulmate aus

I love soulmate aus a lot and talk about them a lot because i enjoy thinking about how the world would change with them and how like politics and stuff would differ

Also looping back to shipping Percy alot it's an easy way to mash him together with someone especially when I'm trying to figure out how I think they would work as a ship

“if an elriel had posted that snippet it would have received the same isolated treatment.” No it would not have. I have seen plenty of Elriel fanfics with much more degrading language and actions than that little snippet. I’ve also seen plenty that have banter.

You’re being painted as the bad guys because of how y’all are acting. The way fictional characters are portrayed in a fic is more important to you than how a real person is treated.

you just wouldn’t see an elriel post such a heavy snippet randomly with 0 warning to anyone about the language or content it contained. Yes, there are R rated elriel fanfics but guess what? They’re handled with care. The authors actually understand the elriel dynamic, this author - who has literally hated on elriel - does not understand that hence why the fic received such bad criticism. Mmm I have not seen any elriel come out and say they had to add banter to make elriel interesting. The “banter” is naturally written in a way that suits elriel. People are allowed to explore characters & couples however they want but it came off as insulting and a little tone deaf to post such a polarising piece in the elriel tag - when the author has said bad things about elriel and even made fun of us stans. And what made it even worse- there was no content warnings.

How are we acting, anon? Im sure the author is mature enough to understand the difference between genuine elriel accounts and trolls that are trying antagonise the fandom. Most elriels ignored it, some had balls to make a separate post and say what we were all thinking. Some wanted to talk about it in private- all valid. Anythinh we’re saying - isn’t hate. Its not insulting to the author as a person. No genuine account came for the author. I said this twice before - I do not agree with calling the authors writing itself terrible or bad as thats not nice especially knowing and understanding the guts it takes to post your work out there. But I do think how elriels reacted are completely valid. The author isn’t a multi shipper when it comes to elriel, has not said positive things about the ship, made fun of the stans etc. This could have been done in a tactful way it wasn’t done so. Elriels should not have to view a piece of work that truly showed elriel in a bad light - in a tag thats meant to be their safe place,

The funny thing is - as a DR reader I understood the concept the author was going for. Elriel simply did not suit it and elriels weren’t the demographic for it 🤷‍��️

My condolences to the author, no one deserves to be bullied. No one supports or encourages that behaviour here. If they decides to continue writing elriel - as apparently it was in demand, I can only suggest using the vague tags. In the end its upto them.

But elriels aren’t the bad ones here. I think the whole thing could have been done more maturely and tactically.
